1001 Albums Summary

This kind of music was briefly popular for a reason.

Some great songs. Cringy lyrics and Anthony Kiedis is a terrible singer. Flea's bass lines are fantastic.

I would have loved to see this band love.

Mediocre album from the late 90s, a mediocre period for alternative rock.

Conga music is great live. This is OK. Mix seemed off- needed more drums and less vocals- but maybe just off because the album is so old.

Percussion, other "instruments", some voice, but never do they come together into a coherent song. I could have been fine dying without ever listening to this.

Surpringly good. Loved the rhythm guitar.

Great flow but the violence and misogyny hasn't aged well, if it was ever ok.

Lovely voice but not enough variation in pitch and volume. Some arrangements feel very dated. But Fast Car can almost carry the album by itself.

I love progressive rock and this feels like a good but not fully formed version.

A couple more uptempo songs from being a masterpiece.

The singer only has a vague concept of notes.

Great album. Every song is strong. Would have liked more than one break from.the rage and more variety in song structure- almost all.the songs are verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus.

These are not songs. These are poems pur to music- poems that often cross from inscrutable to gibberish.

Inoffensive. Fine. OK. Not boring. Not exciting.

Great songs but not enough excitement to sustain two hours.

Layla: 3 minutes of desperation followed by 4 minutes of overindulgence. The rest of the album? Is guitar an emotion? Because that's the only feeling I get.

Sounds like a late 80s alternative rock album from the UK.

He can make a great song. But the rapping is meh and the lyrics are often hackneyed and strained. Plus he's an asshole.

Great songs but every time I'd start really enjoying the album, I'd get thrown off by her singing a note flat. I can't tell if it's a deliberate singing style, but I hate it.

As ambient sounds, awesome. Perfect for when I'm trying to ignore fellow airplane passengers. As music to focus on, nope.

Amazing that her voice can be both sultry and icy. The album would be better with fewer low-key jazz songs and more ways to end songs than just prolonged instrumentals.

I was not optimistic after the horrible first track, but then I found myself enjoying it. Still not planning to listen again.

Bloated and boring.

Excellent use of synth. But singing sucks and lyrics are often really awkward. I wanted to love this and couldn't.

I love the sound but the lack of variety brings this one down.
