The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Jul 31 2026

It's interesting listening to this album knowing how much friction there is now between the previous bandmates. Given the amount of bands that have had this happen, it makes you wonder if that contributes to these amazing albums. The combination of music and Morrisey's crooning made for some of the most memorable, timeless songs. My teenager and I both sing along to Bigmouth Strikes Again.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Aug 01 2026

There's a reason I'm proud to own this on vinyl. It's hard to imagine an album with more empathy and compassion for the downtrodden. Johnny Cash's wit and charm are on full display in this recording.

Aug 02 2026

This album introduced me to Wilco and I was blown away. It’s on continuous rotation in our house. It’s rare for me when a favorite album also has several of my favorite songs, but that’s the case here. Poor Places is among my top ten

Abraxas by Santana
Aug 03 2026

This album is such a quintessential part of the early 70s. I don’t even think of Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman being covers. I’ve always known them as Santana songs.

Aug 04 2026

How have I never listened to this full album before? It has a lot of familiar songs but somehow I’ve never listened all the way through.

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Aug 05 2026

While it’s not my favorite Beastie Boys album it’s still fantastic and hints at how clever they really are despite being hidden behind a frat boy persona.

Aug 06 2026

I never listened to Pavement back when they were popular, so I hold no particular nostalgia with them. I understand how influential they were though. Some of the songs are really experimental, which I liked.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Aug 07 2026

I appreciate what they've done for music and that they are incredible musicians, but I'm not really into The Isley Brothers. I get why it is on the list though.

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Aug 08 2026

This album is fantastic. I've listened to in more than any other White Stripes album. Every song is amazing and fills me with joy.

Country Life by Roxy Music
Aug 09 2026

I hadn’t listened to this before (I’d remember that cover) and liked it quite a bit. I love Pulp, but they owe a lot to Roxy Music.

Aug 10 2026

TBH, this wasn't my thing. I get that he's talented, but, to me, it sounded like every other 90's R&B artist.

Nick Of Time by Bonnie Raitt
Aug 12 2026

Bonnie Raitt and her albums in this era had such a huge influence on some of today’s megastars. I was fortunate to see her perform this year with Belinda Carlisle and I’m so happy I did.

The Infotainment Scan by The Fall
Aug 13 2026

This wasn't really for me. I didn't understand how it was different from other albums in this genre and I don't have a lot of knowledge of The Fall.

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Aug 14 2026

I enjoyed this and have definitely never heard it before.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Aug 15 2026

It feels like by the time this album came out it was hard to do something new in jazz without going into fusion. Thankfully, it stays away from that but still feels fresh and different.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Aug 17 2026

It's Dolly. She's one of the best songwriters ever.

Faust IV by Faust
Aug 20 2026

What a wild ride! I really liked it. Can see how they impacted other bands I'm into.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Aug 21 2026

It's hard to think of a band with a bigger impact on music in the 80s. Love this album, of course.
