I thought this was too too long and rolled my eyes… but man My Morning Jacket is good! They won me over and I completely enjoyed the listen!

Whoever put this on here fuckin rules! This is a top live album for me. Absolutely love MMJ! So many absolute jams on here from their earlier days. Steam Engine (shout our Shakey Knees) Run Thru, and can't ever forget Dodante which I wish was 35 minutes long. Could honestly list every song as being incredible. One of the easiest 5s I could give

Okonokos is a live album and concert film by the American band My Morning Jacket. So that's two reasons it should not be on the list. Also it's mostly material of the albums Z (on this list) and It Still Moves (should have been on it). Still I must admit it's a great album with great performances and the voice of Jim James is live even better than on record. Also some fantastic guitar play.

I said the same thing when I got another My Morning Jacket album a few days ago - every time I listen to this band I realize I need to listen to them more. Seeing them live must be amazing. This album gave a good indication of that. 4 stars.

Gotta love this one as it has most of Z on it which by some crazy coincidence is the album I nominated at practically the same time as this. MMJ is such a great live show I've been lucky enough to see them a bunch of times since first time at Bonnaroo in 2003

I was originally super annoyed to see yet another 2+ hour album on the user submission list... but I actually really dug this. I guess 2 hours isn't bad when you actually like the album!

Live Jacket is the best Jacket. If you don’t know MMJ I could see looking at a 2+ hour live album and rolling my eyes but these guys are incredible. Jim James is my Jesus

Generally not a fan of most live albums being on this list. Not because I dislike them, but because it pretty much becomes a greatest hits album. That said, this band is awesome and they absolutely crush it live and I enjoyed every second of this show.

I dislike live albums on this list and I dislike 2+ hour albums on this list. But I listened to this whole thing and it RULED. MMJ are SO GREAT.

This was some enjoyable Southern indie rock. Great vocals. Mostly enjoyed the longer songs

I liked this a lot, it really conveyed that sense of a live show and the band's unique sound and strong talent held up though some (I assume, I'm not that familiar) very extended renditions of songs.

I'll start by saying, I love me some early My Morning Jacket. Love the way that they maneuver genres blending surf rock elements, with crusty country rock open ended jams and even polka in the case of Into the Woods. They're incredibly nimble and capable in all without losing a core essence that makes it all sound like MMJ. This live album is cut in the immediate wake of Z -- my personal favorite of theirs -- and serves as basically a condensation of Z and It Still Moves (I think only 3 or 4 songs are from their earlier albums). These are both comfort food albums of mine that get a lot of spins on the regular from me. So on the face, this is pretty much everything I would want from an MMJ show. And yet as I listen to this, I find myself wanting to turn to the studio cuts of Z and It Still Moves. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of energy here, and (for the most part) the vocals actually hold up well in the live environment, but outside of a few special moments, I didn't feel like this necessarily added to those studio experiences. The special exceptions being the two song run Dondante and Run Thru. I mean Dondante on its own would give me chills in a live setting -- I feel like this song has one of the best builds of all time. And Run Thru just jams so damned hard on its own and through the outro its worth the trip on its own. Steam Engine is another barn burner along with Off The Record. The source material is great. The setlist is impeccable. Great show. And highly enjoyable listen. Would 100% love to be at this live show. But I think this sits closer to a high 4 than a low 5 in my book.

Torn here, as an MMJ fan I wasn’t opposed to a two-hour live LP, but so many of these songs are already included with the addition of ‘Z’ on the list. This band is an exceptional live act, but do we really need the same set of songs on here with crowd noise added? I’m all for live albums when they cover a wide range of an artist’s discography and serve as a charged ‘Best Of’ LP, but this one is just the Z Tour. Giving this a 3, album/performance is a 5 but it doesn’t feel like a necessary addition to the list.

TFW when u wanted to add My Morning Jacket's Z, but someone added Z so ur Plan B... is to add Z Okay, It Still Moves is pretty well represented. "I Will Sing You Songs" and "One Big Holiday" sound pretty great here. Maybe I'm just Jacket-ed out right now, but I recall liking "Mahgeetah", "Run Thru" and "Steam Engine" more in the studio. And the tracks from 2005's Z are nothing to sniff at, even if they sound pretty close to the studio version to me. No notes for the live version of "Wordless Chorus", "Gideon", even "Anytime". I haven't heard MMJ's earliest two albums, Tennessee Fire or At Dawn, but they also have a smattering of songs here. "Xmas Curtain" is pretty good, never heard that before Jim James's voice sounds strained at times, but in a good rock-and-roll way, not as in "call an ambulance" way Ultimately, my liking of My Morning Jacket is tempered by the fact that it's another live album over 2 hours long, not long after the 2 hours of live Springsteen. (srsly where do u fuckers get off) However, this band should have been on the original list, so I can't be too mad... March 19, 2026

I've never heard of this group before, but my initial impression was positive overall. I think there could be some potential here. When it comes to live albums, I have pretty high standards. The quality and clearness of the recording was top notch. I'd listen to this again and possibly give it a 3.5 on first listen through.

Rock: Alternative Rock, Country Rock, Indie Rock, Prog Rock, Psychedelic Rock. Me estaba gustando bastante, pero en la segunda mitad del disco grita muchísimo. Una pena.

It Beats 4 U and One Big Holiday are the clear standouts — both tracks really shine in the live setting. But at 21 tracks and two hours, this is a big ask. Did two full playthroughs and while the performances are solid, the runtime keeps it from being one I'd revisit often.

This album sounds good overall, but like so many live performances, it feels like you had to be there. I think this would have been an amazing show if I was there, but it's harder to experience it that way listening in my office while I answer emails. Still, dude's voice holds up pretty well during a show, despite the fact that he puts it through its paces 3/5 I want to rate it higher, I really do, but the sound quality just isn't there

I don't get the My Morning Jacket love. After 2 hours I was really looking forward to it being over. I didn't hate it, far from it, but I just didn't connect with it at all. I would normally rate an album like this as 3, but since it's so dang long, I felt punished. So 2.5/5, but rounding down.

You have to really like this band to suffer through this many songs. I don’t like this band.

It was a fine listen, but I do have a problem with live albums on here... gotta have something special going on, or even some technical aspect that makes the recording unique. Otherwise we're just listening to a live version of a band's greatest hits, which to me defeats the purpose of doing an album listen.

A MMJ live album that’s two hours long. I’m sure there are dozens of people excited about getting this on the list. I enjoyed Z a good bit when it was on but to hear most of it again with a dozen other songs at live quality is not my idea of a good user album. 5.0/10

Sure was 2 hours of fine but unremarkable 2000s alternative rock. Pretty much just the same album by these guys I've already heard on here ("Z"), but this time live and much longer.

Looks like the consensus in here is that a live album by a band that already has a studio LP on the list doesn't count (especially since the concert that is documented here uses all the highlights of this studio LP's tracklist). And I 100% subscribe to this take. I listened to *Z* again to ascertain what I about to say, and to put it in a nutshell, the studio versions of those songs sound way better than their live renditions on *Okonokos*, because they're here devoid of key production values... Also, the crowd noises. You need to have the band do their thing in a somewhat "pure" encapsulation -- not pestered by reactions to the music impeding on your own. Not that those audience reactions are terribly annoying in this particular example, at least generally speaking. But bar some very rare exceptions I won't even bother to mention, I consider that an entry point into a band's discography can't possibly include applause, or a fangirl in the crowd suddenly going bonkers in the middle of yet another slow-paced, derivative song -- and this for no "audible" reason. A little game, try to find on which track that specific moment happens. This might keep you on your toes while you listen to this lengthy record -- hopefully more than the music itself at times... Speaking of the devil, the length of this particular live album is another clear shortcoming for me and quite a few others. If you were there that night, this length makes sense, I imagine. But if you weren't, you really need to be a hardcore fan of this act to appreciate this Finally, the user who suggested this is incredibly difficult to please. I wouldn't say they're a "critic", as this generator says, because they never leave a review, and therefore don't explain their tastes. And I wouldn't say they're "picky" either, since they love Happy Monday's utter shite passing off as music, or whiny early Kings Of Leon albums (but this user is admittedly criticizing their -- even worse -- subsequent dross, fortunately, so he might get a pass here). Honestly, there are quite a few LPs this person gave a 5/5 mark to that I love myself... But being so difficult elsewhere gives you the extra incentive to have someone taste their own medicine a little. For all the reasons stated above, I need to subtract points to the grade I would initially give to the music alone -- noughts rock music that's pretty much a mix between The Flaming Lips, early Radiohead and Kings Of Leon before those choir boys sold their soul to the music industry devils, while also exploring the sort of elegant folk craft that would later make Fleet Foxes famous. Basically, what Jim James et al. are doing is southern rock channeled through somewhat "indie" tones, with a few choice stylistic curveballs here and there, such as the obvious reggae influences on "Off The Record". Most of those styles were popular at the time of the band's heyday and still sound decent today, I guess. But they also come off as banal overall in that live context, and even lacking in crucial dynamics once in a while. To be clear, that's gonna be only a half-point subtracted for each reason pointed out through my first four paragraphs, because I'm not as cold as the user who suggested this record. Of course, the final result of that substraction will sound pretty cold to this person anyway. I'm merely being honest, though. And I don't think this particular user is in a position to blame me for this. 1/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums. To explain the final grading: I would give a 3/5 mark to this live album if our list was exclusively dedicated to documented gigs (which is not its goal). Yet I subtracted 2 points to it for the reasons stated at the start of my rant (4 times 0.5 point). And that's gonna be 8/10 for more general purposes (4.5/5 for the musicianship and production values + 3.5/5 for the artistry). ---- Number of albums from the original list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 465 Albums from the original list I *might* include in mine later on: 288 Albums from the original list I won't include in mine: 336 ---- Number of albums from the users list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 77 Albums from the users list I *might* select for mine later on: 98 Albums from the users list I won't select for mine: 192 (including this one) ---- Émile, tu trouveras ma dernière réponse sous le *Inside* de Bo Burnham

Live albums are made for the people who know the band in question. For me, having never heard of My Morning Jacket, listening to 2hrs of out of tune canoodling was both painful and unnecessary. These guys are alt country/indie rock, and remind me a lot of The Glorious Sons. I think I would really probably like this band had I had some exposure to them beforehand, but this marathon of listening just did not paint them in the best light. I wish one of their studio albums was recommended rather than a live album. And regardless of whether I knew them beforehand or not, 2 hrs is way too long for a record. I don't really know what the last hour of the record sounded like, because after the 1 hour mark I lost interest and couldn't maintain focus. I just wanted it to be over. So, to sum up, probably a good band, but not the best album recommendation. Favourite songs: One Big Holiday, Golden (there may have been more, but by the end I just didn't care anymore...) Least favourite songs: Wordless Chorus (painfully flat vocals) 1/5
