The Undertones
The UndertonesHoly hell 16 tracks and 34 minutes! I take longer pisses than some of these songs. Some pretty similar sounding pop punk songs to me. Nothing special or crazy to me though. Heard better punk.

I feel for Ogdens nut. Getting a couple Glyn Johns produced records recently. Not mad about it. The title track was great. Sonically all around your head with sick drums. This started out really sick and was trending for a high 4, but fell off a bit. Still solid.
This would be really good Saturday morning music if I lived in a meth dungeon and was currently on meth. Going to listen to it tomorrow. Some of the songs are just a bit too long but I find myself dancing it up in the car. Kinda enjoying the darkness of it but I wish I listened to it while it was raining. Overall not my type of shit but still enjoyable. Wish I could give 2.5 stars.
Damn I had a really nice review written out here song for song and then my browser updated :( Anyways this album uses some crazy different instruments to enhance the psychedelia of this album. Between the melodica, the sitar, the sax, and trumpet it sounds genre-bending but not at the same time. Long life sounds like solo Thom Yorke. Absolutely adore. The instrumentals alone give this a 5/5 for me. It is the best kind of strange. Definitely an album to listen to in one sitting. My fav type of album. Kept trying to find a reason to not give this a 5 but this album makes me feel like I'm on drugs. Now I want to take all the drugs and listen to it.
I only know Red Red Wine I think by these guys which isn't on here. Ready for some reggae. This is great background music and what I want in my reggae. Burden of Shame is a standout to me with that melodica. Also had to make sure it wasn't a whole new song with the key change. The end sounds like something I've heard before but can't put my finger on it. Edit: just saw on wiki it sounds like Moondance by Van Morrison. This is really some good spacey reggae music with a great collection of instruments. Solid 4 from me.
Love the trip-hoppiness(?) to it
Punk Rock Bro
Love the ambient sounds from Ziggy himself
Side 2 of this album is incredible
Can recognize the influence these guys have made and wish I had a blunt to smoke with it. How I Could Just Kill A Man slaps hard.
Classic 60's sound. Was hoping for some kinky shit. Still solid I liked Afternoon Tea.
Honestly, a jam. It's Tricky and Walk This Way are instant classics. The bassline on "You Be Illin" is fuckin sick. Very nice of them to name their 10th song after Evelyn. Mad Respect. 4 stars.
Johnny Cash is a man’s man. I think Cocaine Blues is one of the best songs out there, just gets 4 from me because some of the songs become forgettable after awhile. Still super solid I wish I could give 4.5 Fun fact: Cash only wrote 5 songs on the album.
This album is awesome. The build ups, the solos, the key changes, everything about it I love. Made in 1977 and still feels refreshing. 5/5 big television guy.
Young Americans is a fucking jam. Gotta respect Bowie for refusing to work on this album unless cocaine was present. A true artist. He was definitely in a Beatles phase working with Lennon on a couple songs and the Beatles lyric in Young Americans. Kinda finally understanding the Bowie vibe.
Not my kinda music but I could see it being fun 40 years ago. Guys wanna have fun too.
Easy to see why Peace Frog is in so many movies with classic rock soundtracks. The album was a little uneven imo but overall very good and psychedelic bluesy.
This is some punk rock. I enjoyed it but also wish I could say most songs don't sound the same.
I liked this way more than I thought I would. Kid Rock sure loves his 40's. Some lyrics are cringe but also hilarious. Eminem was a welcome surprise.
Definitely can tell that they were influencers on some Spacemen 3 music. Some people might not like the repetitiveness of it but I'm all about it. Sounds like a great album to take drugs to.
Two absolutely iconic songs on here with "Money for Nothing" and "Walk of Life." Guitar work is pretty incredible. Will listen again.
Indie darlings. Great music to listen to in the morning whilst sipping on coffee. Arrangements are pretty beautiful. Will seek out more Belle & Sebastian.
Hearing these older punk rock albums is making me appreciate it more and more. The rawness is just real af.
Don't really think I need to say much about a pioneer in psychedelic music. Tomorrow Never Knows will forever be one of my favorite songs of all time. Best album I've heard thus far.
Hmm. I just don't get Prince. Had some nice sounds though. Just sounded like wannabe Michael Jackson to me. Idk. I'll give it another spin based on the reaction other publications have for it.
This is a pwnage soundtrack to my childhood weirdly enough. The amount of n00bs I pwned on Halo whilst listening to this album is probably in the thousands. Nothing like sticking someone and watching them explode at the climax of Beautiful Day. First half is definitely superior but can also love the back half in a different kind of way. Not usually a normal 5 I would give but something about this album gets me.
Very nice of them to name track 8 after Evelyn. The angst of this album made me want to burn my neighbors structure down. Some hits towards the beginning but trailed off at the end for me.
This album has some jams yo. Went back and listened to Head Over Heels/Broken 3 times since finishing. That guitar solo slaps. Would totally do drugs to Listen.
This might be the weirdest fucking album I’ve ever heard and not in a good way. It’s like trying to be weird for the sake of being weird. I don’t even think I can respect the experimental aspects of it. Not a fan.
The ladies sure do love cool James. The Kev does too. So many bangers and great lyrics on this one. Lost count at the number of cereals in that milky one. This deserves a 3.5 but I’m rounding up.
This album is incredible I love everything about it. Unfortunately was probably the peak of Allman Bros for me. Stormy Monday just reminds me of those boner pill commercials which is also unfortunate.
I actually think I could sing better than some of these jabronis. I actually thought some of these songs were the South Park guys but then realized they wouldn’t make incredibly shittty music. Really not my shit minus some guitar work.
What a weird album. I can't tell if this guy takes himself seriously or not. Some weird ass shit happening but Jackie was cool.
Paul Simon has such a calm and soothing voice on this record. Which is a good and bad thing to me. The songs feel super personal which I like. I really like Train in the distance. Wonder if he was doing copious amounts of blow with Carrie Fisher during this. A bit too normie for me. Cars are Cars kinda pisses me off for some reason.
THIS is southern rock, not that drive-by bullshit. Obvious classics like Free Bird, Simple Man, and that song from Happy Gilmore. Some of the songs I didn't know beforehand I could also jam to.
I hope Patti Smith is in a better place mentally now. This album was a whirlwind.
Second song already that Rage covered on Renegades. This is pretty raw and loud which I'm down with but some of it gets lost on me. Parts of Starship sound like some live Doors which was cool. Weird af but cool.
Everybody must get stoned. There are some sweet guitars on this one that don't necessarily stand out but absolutely make some of these songs for me. I have never wanted a Leopard-Skin Pill-Box hat more.
No thanks I'll cut my ears off next time. I wish they gave 0's. Is this where country took a turn for the worst? Apologies to all the other artists I gave a 1 to compared to this.
This dude gothic af. His voice makes me wish it was raining but the music has a somewhat sunny vibe to it. There she goes, my beautiful world and Let the Bells Ring are my faves. 1st side > 2nd side. Overall has some jams but also some duds. 3 stars.
Had no clue what to expect going into this one wowza. Blew my mind this came out in 95. Reminds me a bit of a more electronic Thievery Corporation. World musack with some crazy good guest appearances (Johnny Rotten????). Some absolute jams and I have no doubt some early-mid Daft Punk was getting stuff from them.
Holy hell 16 tracks and 34 minutes! I take longer pisses than some of these songs. Some pretty similar sounding pop punk songs to me. Nothing special or crazy to me though. Heard better punk.
Well this was a perfect Saturday morning listen. Part 1 was solid but part 3 really put things into perspective. Part 4 ended things on a note. Loved it I’m a sucker for some yazz.
This was a strange one. Felt like I could initially get into the songs but then would lose interest over the course of each one. High high's and low low's.
More short songs! They all start the same but keep the same intensity throughout which is cool. I know this is a cornerstone album in punk rock history but it still seems like Blitzkrieg Bop and then a bunch of other similar songs to Blitzkrieg Bop. Idk I liked some of the other punk much more.
Some of this early electronic music is absolutely mesmerizing to me. 1974??? Felt like I was in a movie soundscape for most of this. Could see this being used in like Bladerunner 2049 or some shit.
Rod's raspy voice is so underrated I feel like. The guitar also slaps on some of the early songs. I start to lose interest in some of these songs towards the end but overall I enjoyed it.
A third song from Renegades of Funk this early???? I wonder if we'll hear all of them eventually. Rage's is obviously better (like most of album). I'm sure this was very cool in 86 and I can see some influence but it was very meh to me for most.
Never listened to Willie before but I love the story he tells in this. Might have to light one up and get into some more Willie.
Don't listen to much salsa but damn if it didn't have me craving some tacos and margaritas at 10 am on a Monday.
The Girl from Ipanema is such a good song. Recognized it from Catch Me If You Can (and I'm sure a ton of other movies/tv shows). Love a solid jazz album.
I've only heart Porcelain from the album before but I fucking love that song. Excited to dive in. 8 songs in and I am VIBING. Fell off a bit towards the end but still very solid. Great album I am going to seek out some more Moby. Flowers is also a great B-side that should've been part of the original tracklist.
Wardance is scary. I enjoy this more than the "every song sounds the same" punk, but still not my jam really.
This is like nice punk. Still not the greatest fan but definitely one of those times I wish there were .5's to rate albums.
What a clean voice for someone so.... Dusty. She reminds me of Amy Winehouse. Son of a Preacher Man is an obvious jam. Don't think I ever would've guessed it was by this person. The Windmills of Your Mind is fantastic.
Clapton played guitar on this whoa. Chain of Fools and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman are the obvious standouts. Very short album but what a voice! I dig it.
This genre is called “noise rock” and it certainly is noisy. I don’t like noise rock very much.
This shit is bangin!
This is very solid to listen to while working. Lots happening but in a peaceful uplifting way. Especially when the girl in The Rough and the Quick was talking about dirty things.
This is a really nice change or pace after the past few albums we've had (minus Radiohead that shit was sick). The guitar is some of these songs is great, specifically Aprendendo a Jogar. Really digging it a few songs in.
Shit is kinda lame. Can get into Stay though. Had an opportunity to listen to the deluxe version additions....passsssssssss
These are some genuine Beatles pop songs. Even before they gave us a glimpse into the psychedelic world of music they gave us an album full of bangers you can belt out in the car. You Can't Do That is one of my favs from my childhood. MOAR COWBELL
The highs were high the lows were low even in the same song sometimes. I enjoyed it cuz I’m white.
Pretty solid feedback rock. I dig it but it does become a bit much after awhile.
Never really dug into the Cure, just know that 311 covered Love Song. Really like the gloominess of the album. This would slap on a rainy day. Really dig the guitar effects and synths on a lot of these songs. I'm going to listen to more of The Cure.
Was the song "Machine Gun Etiquette" sampled in the "Hey! (You Suck)" song? If so that's pretty cool. "I Just Can't Be Happy" slaps. That keyboard solo in the middle was fun. "These Hands" frightens me. But the background guitar is cool. Idk if it's because it's been over a week since I've listened to punk but I enjoyed this one more than most of the others.
Well, that is certainly a way to start an album. At random times sounds like Les Claypool (voice, not anything else). Felt like I was having a mental breakdown at some points and needed to take my headphones off. I hope Mr. Spencer is in a better place.
Totally thought this was going to be another fucking punk album from the cover thank fucking god. This was a pleasant listen in the morning when my head was pounding from winning a muufuckin kickball championship. A little boring though but overall enjoyable. Probably not going to go out of my way to listen to more of this man though.
This is some good ol fashioned raw shit. Lots of guitar solos weeeeee. Love and Only Love rocks
This started off HOT with Like a Prayer and Express Yourself. Kinda faltered towards in the end in that bleh 80's sound but definitely an enjoyable listen.
This isn't as good of an album as DSOTM, Animals, or WYWH, but it's a damn good album. Watching the movie growing up made me feel like I was on drugs before I knew what drugs were. Excellent dark album. Obvious standouts but one of my favorite transitions in all of music is Empty Spaces into Young Lust. Definitely an album that was 100% designed to listen to in order. Mother should I trust the government? NO!
Wait a sec, am I on the clock? Jk I know it's May and I'm not nearly drunk enough. This album just gets me fuckin hype like not many other albums can do. Did not know that No Leaf Clover was written specifically for this performance but now it makes sense. It seems to fit in with the orchestra incredibly well. 5/5 can't wait for the fantasy draft.
Solid bassline to start off. The music is good and dark for a dreary day like today. Although it made me tired I think because of the casualness of his voice. There were some really good background instrumentals. Very gritty and weathered but definitely sleep inducing.
This is just ok. Not my fav.
This first song is a bop. Kinda gives me Bowie vibes. This is a fun album! I listened to their album “Roxy Music” a bunch this past year cuz I went through an Eno phase but I’m glad to expand on this. It’s like a mix between Bowie and Talking Heads. Going to listen to all the Roxy Music albums now brb
This is why I love this project. This album is the perfect mix of melancholy alternative for me. Each song sounds fresh and pops. The Bones of You has that sick fuzzy bass that reminds me of Radiohead’s Exit Music (For a Film). Sounds like a combination of Radiohead and new Arctic Monkeys. If you like this in any way I highly recommend listening to the live album at Abbey Road. It has an orchestra and choir. Epic af.
This isn't really it for me. I can hear some Oasis in this, but with too much of a poppiness to it. Not something I'll revisit but not the worst thing I've heard in my life.
It's too much for me but sometimes I could get into some of the instrumentals. Just not my kinda music. Another one towards the "noise rock" which I find myself not digging. More towards a 1 than a 3 though. We'll go with 1.666 which feels appropriate.
I really like orchestra in these songs. Fiona Apple also has a beautiful angsty voice. Little jazzy on "Slow Like Honey" Really enjoying the change in sound on these songs. Very pleasant listen.
The first two songs are very solid. Mostly bubblegum bullshit after that until "The Beat Goes On" which I actually enjoyed. Just really wanted to turn it off besides those 3 songs though.
Tutti Frutti rules 🤘 This shit probably slapped HARD in 57. Thank fucking god we're alive right now instead. While this was probably the Beatles in 57 and I can see the impact it had on them, there is just better shit out there at this point. Still good though.
I bet Ev was wishing she was still doing this. F**k Me Pumps is a banger. Bassline in "In My Bed" slaps. Great vocals and very chill instrumentals. Great album overall.
Brings me back to listening to this in my old Honda Civic growing up! The Chump transition into Longview is primo. Longview also happens to be one of my favorite songs. Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, She, When I Come Around - this is my favorite kinda punk.
Really like how the title track starts off! Funky surf rock. Really digging this. Getting major Talking Heads vibes. Picking just one genre to label this band as is hard. Especially with Breakfast Time having a reggae vibe to it. and then the sax in I Can't Help Myself! Xylophone goin nuts on Hokoyo. Overall very enjoyable listen and will be going back/exploring more OJ
ALLLLLLISSSSONNNNNNNN Sometimes gets a bit too rockabilly for me but pretty solid.
Cry Baby is such a good fucking song. Me & Bobby McGee is the classic and a song I can listen to at almost any point in time. Great tunes with a great backing band. RIP Janis
I've vibed to this more than I thought I would. Definitely gets hyped as a game changing album and some of the production highlights that. That being said I'm not mind-blown in some crazy way like people are with it. But I definitely enjoyed it. Crack Rock was my fav. Damn Lost is a banger Ooo Andre 3k Liked this more than I thought I would. Obligatory fuck Frank Ocean tho.
More of Golden Hours pls. This album is unique af I love the rock/ambientness it's a jam
This shit is bangin! and by bangin I mean Ginger Baker is really bangin on them drums! Really love all the African jungle sounds. Funky.
This is some good shit. I can see why Jack Black gave that Yes cd to that kid in School of Rock. Starship Trooper is baller in that its pretty much 3 songs smashed into one and flows so well. Will seek out more Yes.
This was alright. Pretty good background music but not much more.
Let's Call The Whole Thing Off is great. Love that she uses the Baltimore accent for oysters (errsters) in it. This was a very calming album to listen to in the morning while getting some work done. I admittedly didn't listen to all 3 hours (wtf???) but I will at some point.
Some of these songs are going to be classics for me later on in life. Under the Pressure, Red Eyes, Eyes to the Wind, and Ocean in Between the Waves pumps me up beyond belief. Love the other songs too the album really stays true to its name. You find yourself getting lost in the spacy, dreamy songs. LOVE
Been awhile since I've listened to this. Not my favorite of the Grizzly Bear albums but still great. Super sad it reminds me their on a hiatus cuz I loved their last album. Classic indie rock. Southern Point rules. James secretly has been secretly listening to Two Weeks every day for the past 14 years "Never heard it ok" My favorite kinda sound from them is Ready, Able. Hauntingly beautiful.
Great album. So many jams and awesome covers. Nobody Knows You When You're Down & Out is one of my favs. Guitar is unreal on some of these songs. Easy with Clapton and Allman, but still incredible.
This album was a trip. Def some points I wasn't sure about, but also plenty of highs. I wish they used some more of their weird sounds in more of their songs. Not bad. Not great. This is a legit 3 for me.
Every Bowie album I've listened to rules. Maybe not every song is a banger, but I can usually find something I really like in each song. And his versatility is just insane. Time might be an all time fav. Has a creepiness to it that I'm about. Love that he has Rolling Stones and Beatles covers on the albums that we listened to. I think this is the 3rd that's on here and I'm sure we'll get another 4 at least. Looking forward to it!
Been awhile since I've listened to this. Holds tf up. Love Thundercat's bass and jazzy tones on these songs. It's so recognizable and interesting. Wild to see an album with Kenny Loggins, Wiz Khalifa, Michael McDonald, and Kendrick. Also such a nerd spending all his cash in Tokyo on anime (Yes!) "Goku fucking ruined me" lmao he's so silly. Great listen there is some incredible keyboarding/synths going on in some of these songs that give that trippy vibe.
Pretty interesting album but just doesn't hit me the way some other albums do. His voice is pretty incredible though.
This was extremely enjoyable to have on in the background whilst working. Once I'm all caught up on these albums I'm gonna listen to some of his live stuff with Miles Davis.
Love me some psychedelic funk. Sly and the Family Stone rips
This is nothing special couldn't really get into any song.
Mmmmm jazzy. Initially didn't think I'd like this but it's pretty comforting. Really liked New Frontier
Ah the classic r/vinyljerk album cover. Love it. I've listened to this before but never really paying as much attention to it as I should've Only know 21st Century Dude and the Court of the Crimson King. Leggooooooo No one man should have all that POWER! What an awesome sample. 21st Century Schizoid Man rules. Just some finger-lickin' jams. I have gained such a respect for my favorite of the woodwinds, ze flute (thanks Stu Mac). Dude fucking kills it on this track with it. Epitaph would be a great song to use in a film. Thinking Tarantino. Fun fact Space Jam got its name from Moonchild. Wiggly is the word I'd use. I really like that every song seems to have a different instrument that sticks out. Saw Claypool Lennon Delirium cover The Court of the Crimson King and have been in love with this song since. That fucking flute and the drums are so fucking good. This is some baller ass prog rock. I'll be back
This album is the quintessential 2000's indie rock sound. Fucking love it. So simple but so great.
This is some dark music which I normally love, but damn the lyrics and the dudes voice just piss me off. Can def get into some of the instrumentals but I don't think I'll be back Soft Cell.
Bowie rules. Wild is the Wind is so good def a top Bowie song from me now.
Highs are super high on this one but it still ain’t no Dookie. Still an enjoyable listen I just think some songs could be halved. Soundtrack to middle school
I remember thinking this was the greatest album ever growing up. Still think Like a Rolling Stone and Highway 61 Revisited are some of the greatest songs ever written. How come nobody asks Bob Dylan why you sound so much like Dewey Cox???
Man there are some really iconic songs on here. Piggy, March of the Pigs, Closer, and of course Hurt (Johnny Cash's version is a GOAT cover). Listening to this in 1994 must've been a wild experience. Fun fact it was recorded where the Manson Family killed Sharon Tate +friends. This is such a tough album for me to rank. It has some serious high's and serious low's. 3 it is!
Knew some of these songs going in and never thought anything of them really, but damn they work well with the album. Love the sounds that come out of New Wave but sometimes the voices and lyrics piss me off. Was going to give this a 3 but I'm bumping it up cuz I love the last song
Eh it's ok nothing special. Sounds all do sound pretty different which is cool I guess.
Didn't know what to expect from this but he definitely can make some jams. Nothing crazily stood out to me but definitely enjoyed it on my ride in to Annapolis.
This dude sounds like Sean Lennon. Nothing too crazy though got a bit bored.
Not really my shit but I definitely felt myself bobbing my head to a bunch of songs. Can see definite influences with this one.
Tim I'm down to Metro this weekend. I'll be there tomorrow around 7pm. This album fucking slaps. IDGAF that Seven Nation Army is overplayed to shit it's such a jam when you aren't hearing it at a game or whatever. Ball & Biscuit --> Hardest Button to Button --> Little Acorns is an insane 3 song run. Might be one of my fav's of all time. Still remember watching the Hardest Button music vid on MTV or VH1 every morning in middle school. So fucking good.
Another Stripes album with so many classics! Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground, Hotel Yorba, Fell in Love with a Girl (my fav), We're Going to be Friends, The Union Forever sticks out as one that never really did before, but now I need to hear him play it live. Shit is dark af. Comparing to Elephant it's not as good, but love some of the deeper tracks that it has. Jack White fucks.
Sympathy for the Devil fuckkkkkkkkkk yeah. WOO WOO!!!! I love that slide guitar on Jigsaw Puzzle. Street Fighting Man is also a jam and the 5th(!!!!) song from Rage's Renegades album. Pretty wild in the first 114 albums. Also pretty wild that Keith Richards will be alive long after the crust of the Earth melts away from climate change. I took an Adderall today, might have to NIN after this.
This album is... interesting. Ian Dury sounds like knockoff Damon Albarn. I can't take him seriously tbh. Some cool sounds though.
Pretty chill but couldn't get super into it. Definitely enjoyed but also a bit too long.
Lauren was not down to listen to NIN. So we compromised with R.E.M. Doesn't do too much for me but it does blow my mind that this came out in 88. Sounds pretty ahead of its time. Some stand(outs) to me were obviously Stand, I Remember Cali, and Orange Crush. I loved playing that song on Rock Band
Love Rod's raspy ass voice but this album just didn't do it for me minus Maggie May which is a classic.
Never heard of these guys but oooo this first song is pretty jazzy towards the end. Just realized the first side is all covers besides one song. Jazzy muufuggin covers. Ok I know Spinning Wheel this song fucks. You Make Me So Very Happy is also a jam that I've heard before. WHERE IS BLUES PT. I???? Should be the anthem for Blues games. If jazz and psychedelic music met and had a baby, and meanwhile rock and r&b met and had a baby. By some miracle if those two babies met and fucked, this would be the shit they birthed.
Had never heard of this band before. But this album is pretty quirky and unique sounding. Really enjoying it. God! Show me Magic was a great start. Have definitely heard Something 4 the Weekend. Jam of a song. Solo on Hometown Unicorn slaps. Gathering Moss could’ve been written by Syd Barrett. Great chill tune. Fun fact: The devil brother from Little Nicky is speaking during the song Long Gone on the answering machine. Overall I really enjoyed this and sounds refreshing af to me. There were some inconsistent parts to it but over really good. Wish I could give it a 4.5 but I’m gonna round down to a 4.
Cousin Kevin is pretty cool. This had some good songs and a lot of songs that just happen and aren't exciting in any way. Pinball Wizard rules obviously and is way better than any other song on this rekkid. Can dig the bass on Go To The Mirror! too. I'm Free is a jam too. Overall a pretty boring album besides a couple songs. This album should've been 30 minutes shorter.
Oh hell yeah some shoegaze. If anyone likes this album I highly recommend Beach House. Over the years I've gone back and listened to this album a bunch and can see the influence they've had. Just great sounds. I love Pitch the Baby. Iceblink Luck always makes me want a cherry coke even though I'm 95% certain that is not the lyric. Just a great album with cool sounds I love dream pop.
Easy 5 before I even listened to a song. I just mowed my lawn and did yardwork to this album and was head bobbin and fist pumpin the whole time that I just wanted to burn everything to the fucking ground. Maynard James Keenan is an awesome feature on here too. Saw them last year and was lucky enough to hear 7 of these songs but reallllly wanted Settle for Nothing. Was fucking sick to hear Freedom though. Also shoutout our group here is named after these mothafuckaaaaassssss
Are we sure Morrisey isn't a time traveler? Predicted the shit out of that first song. This album didn't really have any standout moments for me but I can appreciate it for some of the guitar and bass. Morrisey's voice kinda pisses me off after awhile but in some songs it's very enjoyable. Middle of the road album for me.
WORLD MUSACK! This album was all over the place. Really liked some parts really hated other parts. Idk what to do I'm going 3.
Never heard of this "Little Simz" and was cautious going into it, but that was pretty good! I don't know how much I'll go back to it but would give it a 3.5 if I could. No nostalgia so you get a 3. Sorry Simz.
I didn't realize Kings of Leon were 3 brothers and a cousin. Interesting. Tim let's do it. The singers voice is kinda annoying. I like Taper Jean Girl and feel like I've definitely heard it before. Honestly not much else doing it for me on this record but I do enjoy some of the instrumentals a bunch.
Such a classic. Dazed and Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and I Can't Quit you Baby are standouts for me. What an insanely good debut album.
The band name just reminds me of Joe Dirt when he's listing off the different fireworks. Husker Do's Husker Don'ts. I don't think Husker Du is for me. Had some alright instrumentals but will not be coming back.
I have no clue what type of music this is supposed to be. The combo of terrible 80's sounds and some just not great rapping (?) makes this a no from me dog.
"Hey, uhhh...give it up for White Denim! Holy moly what a bunch of... freakishly good musicians" - Kevin Parker aka Tame Impala did you guys know Tame Impala is only one guy????? Really digging this a few songs in. That was a great listen. I was busy at work but really enjoyed all of it and plan to come back.
Already showing age here by not appearing on Apple Music. What up Youtube! Bed Bugs Blues is giving me flashbacks. Wow Clapton way to steal Ramblin' Jack Elliott's song about cocaine. Another knock on Clapton. Using this more to shit on Clapton. What's the difference between a bag of cocaine and a baby? Eric Clapton wouldn't let a bag of cocaine fall out of a window. 2/5
Tellin stories??? More like tellin bories. Sounds like Oasis. I also don’t really like Oasis so this is pretty meh. Area 51 is actually interesting and probably my favorite song on the album. This was a hard 2 for me but the second half got a bit better. 2.5 but I’ll bump it up.
Haven't really ever gotten into Alice In Chains too much so I'm excited for this. Heard Them Bones before and it fucks. Same with Dam That River. Like how in Rain When I Die you think it's ending and then comes back and gets louder. Obvs Rooster is a jam. I need to listen to some more Alice In Chains.
Gimme some of that swamp rock! Born on the Bayou is great. Great songs all in the middle of the album and then another absolute fire track in Proud Mary. It's too bad these guys fought so much and broke up because they made some really good jams.
Ahh Bittersweet Symphony. What a classic. Not sure I know anyone who doesn't like this piece of art! I hate when the drugs don't work. Not the song but just when the actual drugs don't work. This song is pretty peaceful though. Unlike drugs not working. Really like the background guitar work on Catching the Butterfly. Ah I've actually heard another song by these guys in Lucky Man. Pretty song. Was working with this in the background but found some songs a bit boring. Might come back to it again we'll see.
This album is fucking weird. I like certain aspects of every song and hate certain aspects of every song. Sounds like a musical but not at the same time? I'm confused. Can't tell if he's creepy or loving on One Night Stand. Can't put my finger on this shit but don't think I'll be back.
Honestly never have gone out of my way to listen to ABBA so interested for this. Kiss the teacher just reminds me of the South Park episode where Ike sleeps with the teacher and the police just say "Nice" when they realize she is a hottie. Dancing Queen is a jam but nothing I'll go out of my way to listen to. Money Money Money is kinda dark lol Who is this Bjorn guy and why is he singing over the other A's. Also their names are all so fucking svedish. Agnetha Fältskog Anni-Frid Lyngstad Björn Ulvaeus Benny Andersson Fernando! I would kms if that was my name and then this song came out. Pretty diddy though. Honestly not much here for me besides the two I had already heard.
I remember trying to listen to this awhile back because the only thing I know about this broad is she's married to Andy Samberg. Definitely not as funny as Andy Samberg. I can see how this would be for some people but it is not for me. Might be the voice because the background instrumentals are great.
This was a 5 going in. Grew up with it and at one point this was probably my favorite album. I remember how pumped I was that Break on Through was on Tony Hawk Underground 2 as a kid. Love this song just amps you up. The father to Break Stuff. Crystal Ship is beautiful. That is all. Alabama Song is so silly but I love it. Like a dark carnival song. Light my Fire epic jam makes me want to go watch a live video of it. Back Door Man and I looked at you go hard. Then we delve into some psychedelicness with End of the Night. The End is one of my favorite songs of all time. So dark and powerful and psychedelic with a few different genres sprinkled in. Its use in Apocalypse Now was masterful. The Doors really know how to close out an album. When I was in Paris I made my gf at the time bring me to Jim Morrison's gravesite and it's still visited by so many people. Legend.
Oh hell yeah Nick Drake. I've only listened to his album Pink Moon before but that was incredible. Very peaceful music. Sucks he was so depressed but you can kinda hear it through his music. Man never got to know how popular his music got. The strings in River Man are a perfect backdrop. Just can't stop thinking of how beautiful these songs are after Thoughts of Mary Jane. Plus flute! New fav instrument! Love that you can hear the stand up bass on some songs too. Especially Man in a Shed. Love the jazzy ending with the xylophone and bass. This album is so melancholy I love it. There's just so much emotion behind it. RIP tell a friend you love them today.
We are on some burners here! Three 5's in a row making me feel like a bitch to music. Also another Eno gem. Growing up my parents told me David Byrne was weird... now I realize they were correct but who gives af. Born Under Punches is awesome. So funky. Love the percussions in Crosseyed and Painless. Every song is so good. Same as it ever was.... Listening Wind is haunting in the best way possible. I feel like the Overload would scare Allie. I on the other hand love it even though it might be my least fav on the album. Also I just listened to these unfinished outtake songs and they're incredible. Worthy of a listen. This album is a classic. BRB going to watch Stop Making Sense.
The main guy sounds like Eazy-E. Can't stop thinking about that when I hear him. Had this one on mainly in the background, but honestly love that early 90's hip-hop sound. Nothing crazy special just good to have in the background.
This album is already so groovy. Love An Eagle in Your Mind immensely. I was working with this on in the background but damn felt like I was nodding my head to every song. Going to come back and give it another shot but I'd like to reward the head bob with a 4 right now.
Obviously know Message in a Bottle and love it. Some of these songs sound pretty improvisational, but that may just be me. Love Walking on the Moon Hate On Any Other Day I like Contact but the lyrics just are so silly to me. Sting is strange. Highs and lows throughout. 2.5 but I'll round out because Walking On the Moon rocks.
I'll probably be seeing these dudes in OC later this year. I have no clue what I expected from this. Kinda thought it would be more Jack Johnson-ey? Realized I only said this because he covers a song by them. Digging the first 2 songs though. Blues Musak is solid. Pretty interesting rekkid. Definitely a different type of hip hop and honestly pretty surprised this came out in 94. I think I'll see them. I can see it being Citizen Cope-like.
I'm sure this was pretty prolific at the time it came out, but for me it just sounds like a worse Tribe Called Quest. They may have had influence over them which is tight but overall it's just an ok listen. I liked that song Eye Know with Otis Redding though. Oh of course Q-Tip pops up maybe that's where I'm getting the Tribe from idk. Dos.
Was scared to see "noise" be part of the genre after that one abomination, but this does it some justice! Love some of the feedback on this album. Just incredibly dissonant in a great way. Nothing really stuck out too crazy for me, but it was enjoyable and made me want to listen to Loveless again.
Ace of Spades immediately makes me think of Tony Hawk. Never really listened to much Motörhead so excited to jump in. I really like the instrumentals and the lead singers voice. Sounds very straining on his vocal chords but damn it sounds good. The beginning of Jailbait sounds like another song and I can't put my finger on it. The Chase is Better than the Catch is an awesome song. I really liked this album. Some classic rock n roll. Give me more.
Never listened to these guys le do it. Wow I love these first two songs. Very different and that guitar work on Crying rules. Love that fuzzy bass in Dancing Choose. Some of the guitat work in Shout Me Out is great. DLZ is a pretty intense one I'm about it. These songs are all very unique and fresh sounding. Big fan. I'm at work so trying to pay attention as much as I can but damn I love it and will need to listen to more TV On The Radio.
Egg Man is definitely one of my favorite Beastie Boys songs ever. What a jam. Sampledelia is a genre I don't know if I've seen before. Pretty fun looking at the samples and trying to pick them out of the songs. Just kidding 5-Piece Chicken Dinner is my actual favorite Beastie Boys song. Looking Down the Barrell of a Gun is pretty hype. Heard the beginning of Sublime's cover of Scarlet Begonias in Shadrach and realized that that's also a sample of a James Brown tune. TIL. There are a few standout songs by them but the Beastie Boys just never scratched that itch for me. Very interesting with the sampledelia though and can see how influential this was.
I’m listening to this in the car with my boss while she’s driving here we go. The band at the Fucking Catalina Wine Mixer would not approve. Strictly 80s Joel! Starts off with a banger in Movin’ Out. Ack ack ack ack ack ack ack The stranger starting out creepy and then rockin out. Just the Way You Are is saxy. But also kinda lame. Fuck off Bill. Love that key change in Italian Restaurant. This song sounds like 3 or 4 songs in one. My boss says Vienna is his best song so let’s see how her taste is. Oooo accordion! That’s fun! Not his best but it’s a pretty song. If you can’t snap or tap your feet to Only the Good Die Young you’re a robot sorry. Boss says I should put She’s Always a Woman on my “romantic playlist.” Sure right next to Rattlesnake. This is a pretty romantic song though ngl. Reminds me of the song Josh Groban sings to Sweet Dee. Like the drums on Get it Right the First Time. Everybody has a Dream is kinda a snoozer. Overall I really liked it. Would probably give a 3.5 but I’ll round up for my boss.
Ah it’s been awhile since we’ve gotten some good ol fashioned punk! Not long enough imo.
That guitar was so great at the beginning and then went into a normal song. Let’s be real the 80s probably sucked minus the fentanyl-less blow. What Gets Heard sounds like the Viagra Boys. This album seems super uncohesive. Hard to put my finger on if I like it or not. Time With You is probably my favorite so far. Feel like I’m gonna have to give this one another listen with headphones instead of in the car but it’ll probably still be a 3.
Hey I've heard this song (Intro) before! Shit is bangin! Didn't know it was the xx. Crystalised rules. Lost in some of the middling songs, but the overarching guitar work really sets the tone for the album and makes it an easy listen. Really enjoyed Basic Space and Infinity. Night Time really starts to bang towards the end. The powerful build up on some of these songs really sticks out and pumps you up. Was hoping to have this with Stars but just never got there. Twas a good listen and feel it needs to be enjoyed in the album setting instead of one-off songs.
Easy 5 from the bat I love this album and is definitely one of my favorite live albums of all time. The rawness of Cobain's voice adds to it with him straining on a number of songs. Plus the cello adds a nice touch. Hits deep. Adds to it that they didn't really play any major hits which pissed off MTV. Not gonna go into every song, but The Man Who Sold The World might be my favorite cover of all time and I think it far exceeds Bowie's version. Plus he didn't screw it up! Dumb is such an underrated Nirvana song. All of the Meat Puppet's songs are great. Where Did You Sleep Last Night still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it with Cobain's vocal strain. So fucking good. I love every song on this album and the arrangements they have. The cello really adds to some of the songs and love hearing the talks in between. Will continue to listen the rest of me life.
The chorus of A Message to You Rudy is at the end of DJ's by Sublime! Never knew that wild. Stop yo messin around. Another album that just feels all over the place. Doesn't sound like it came out in 79 for some reason. Bass in Nite Klub is sick! Not much else I'm really feeling enough to write out.
Definitely an album to tap your toes to. Sad he died shortly after this. Circumstances are weird. Twistin' the Night Away is an all time classic for me. Beautiful strained voice on a lot of these songs and I love his voice. Super raw. Would love to be in the audience for this one.
Few songs in and this is really not my jam. I can get behind some of the instrumentals. Only some. I honestly hate some of them. I have it on in the background whilst working so might not be the best representation but still not my jam and that's OK. I dig tf out of the flute and looping in African Dance though.
Hmmm I already listened to this one? Weird. Maybe it's because I started a couple days before starting the group. Anyways this was my review last time.... Punk rock bro.
What an iconic voice Guru has. Heard a few of these songs but never this album le go. Step in the Arena bangs. Execution of a Chump is a banger. Check the Technique is awesome sampling California Soul. Love Gang Starr this was solid, but nothing so captivating to keep me intrigued all the way through.
Hmmm must be some licensing problems with this one. Can't seem to find it on Apple Music or Spotify. Bless up Youtube! The whole album isn't on there but there is a playlist with all 9 songs on there. Mad excited for this one. Title track slaps. Found myself singing along at work to it and just overall jamming. Groovallegiance is a baller ass name for a song. I pledge allegiance to the funk. Guitar in Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?! slays. This album is fun I'm into it. Personally I think the Doo Doo Chasers deserve more recognition. They're a musical bowel movement! Into You and Cholly close out a particularly solid album! I listened to the live Maggot Brain. Always makes me want to listen to John Frusciante's Empryean. What a beast of a solo.
This first song sounds pretentious af. Whatever Suzanne. I actually like Straight Lines. Meh. 1.5 but I'll round up.
Jam of a first song. Not my favorite version of Heard it Through the Grapevine. The rest was pretty good. Nothing really stood out but I did enjoy it at least.
I had only heard Reel Big Fish's Talkin' 'Bout a Revolution but this one makes me want to run for city council more to start my revolution. Definitely have heard Fast Car. This is a solid tune that's easy to get stuck in your head. I'll probably be humming it later tonight. I do like Across the Lines. The next couple songs were kinda boring. I know the lyrics represent something deeper I'm just working and it's not evoking the emotions I'm sure it's supposed to. Mountains O things is straight out of Tarzan! Overall the lyrics and voice are really strong. Still not my cup o tea but she is certainly powerful.
Damn I tried winning tickets to these guys at the Anthem recently to see their 3-D show. Haven't gotten too into them but know they had a profound effect on Daft Punk, Air (Moon Safari better be on this list), and others. Oh hell yeah this was a song I got into for that show. This shit is dope. Makes me want to go grab a schnitzel and drive 200 mph down 50. Kometenmelodie 1 is a pretty ambient soundscape that I could see being pretty ahead of its time in 74. Gabe aka skeleton-man tried to replicate this in the Office and failed. Go eat some powdered seahorses bro. Love that transition into Kometenmelodie 2. Sounds like a video game soundtrack from the 80's. Mitternacht is dark af. Definitely belongs in Blade Runner. Morgenspaziergang is way more elegant with what sounds like a recorder. Also translates to "Morning Walk" which makes it even more elegant to me.
This album fuckin rules. I had only listened to Apostrophe by Zappa before this but this solidified that I need to listen to more. So much happening that it's hard to put into words even. Would go 4.5 but I'm rounding up because of the experimentation of this all.
Not sure if I've actually listened to an entire Elvis album but here we are thanks 1001albumsgenerator.com Blue Suede Shoes is a fun little diddy. I Got a Woman is super familiar. Of course the Beatles covered it. But most familiar from Gold Digger. Tutti Frutti is a classic. I'll show you a Blue Moon alright. I liked those songs but the rest don't really do it for me. I know it's probably epic for the time it came out though. 2.5 but I'll give it a 3 for that.
Excited for this. I liked Doolittle but saw a few songs of theirs at Roo and wasn't impressed so we'll see! 2 songs in this shit is dark. They really like singing about bones. Definitely like the punk sound wayyyyy more than the usual boring ass punk albums we've listened to already. Didn't even know they had a girl singer. 6 songs in and this is just raw af bordering on some noise rock but the guitars I actually fuck with. Where is My Mind is a 5/5 song but no shit there. Whooaaaaaa a superhero named Tony?!?!?! If you don't like this dudes voice you will probably hate this album lol. Also some Spanish goin on. This is some angry shit! Definitely hear some Nirvana in this. But like the really raunchy raw Nirvana where Kurt Cobain wants to kill the world. Not bad I can see myself getting in a mood for this.
Pretty solid album. One Way or Another really slaps if you're actually listening on purpose. Feel like I've only heard that song in the background. I know but I don't know jams. Heart of Glass will be stuck in my head the rest of the day. Solid album.
Well I put this on as background music for work but couldn’t stop listening to his voice and lyrics. Like buttah baby.
Oh man some of my favorite Zeppelin songs of all time are on here, honestly a few that are insanely overplayed or were used in a Cadillac commercial but insanely good songs nonetheless. Black Dog is a quintessential song by these guys and that solo at the end rips. Rock n Roll is that aforementioned Cadillac song. Feel like I should like this song a way more as its a fuckin BOP but growing up hearing it on that commercial ruined part of it for me. Still a jam just never one I am going out of my way to listen to. Love the slow down and mandolin presence on Battle of Evermore. Def grew up loving this one. Don't think much needs to be said about Stairway to Heaven so I'll spare you all. Just will mention when the drums come in I am close to busting one. Iconic song. OOOOOOOoooooooo another one of my faves I love the noises Plant makes in Misty Mountain Hop. Four Sticks isn't one I come back to often but damn it's a jam with that riff. Love it. Going to California always reminds me of the episode of That 70's Show with Jessica Simpson and her beach jugs. Really like it on this album though its a great juxtaposition with some of the harder tracks. Fuck yeah When the Levee Breaks. I took acid at Firefly one time and was stuck in my car during a nasty ass storm. I kept playing songs about raining/water/ect and this song is forever ingrained in my brain from that. Badass.
Ooooo some yazzzzzz. Never listened to Tom Waits really but the setting of this album is pretty cool and love the spoken word when I usually don't. Think it's all the background jazz helping out. It did go on entirely too long for me and started to lose interest around the 50 minute mark. Still good stuff.
Man I enjoyed tf out of this. Pretty dream-like sounding songs with some melancholy added in for good measure. I was driving so no real review by song but can say this would be a good album to lay in bed with all the lights off and take drugs to. High 4 but it went on a bit longer than I usually like an album to be so will knock it down.
Pretty enlightening stuff listening to this early in the morning while at work. Feels like a Lion King song that goes on too long though. It was good for what it was. But 99% chance I don't come back.
Only really listened to Reflektor by them which I hear is insanely different from their usual style, so I'm excited. Pretty good listening. Then Neighborhoods #3 (which reminds me of the song Reflektor with less electronics). Damn I just kept picturing hearing that song live. Probably fuxxx. Wake Up is an obvious jam. Didn't even realize that was by them but knew the song. Haiti song makes me happy. Loved the buildup in In The Backseat. Great album. I think I like Reflektor better but was trying to not be biased. I know this is critically acclaimed but just felt kinda stagnant at some points. Really enjoyable though.
BORING 80's music blahhhhhhhh some cool instrumentals though.
Kinda sounds like Damon Albarn. Or I guess he sounds like Billy Bragg. Either way this was meh. Nothing special. Honestly trending more towards hate. 1.5 but will give a 2. Won't be coming back Billy Boi.
Listened to Running Up That Hill a few times since Stranger Things but have moreso been listening to the MMJ cover at Roo which was a fuggin BOP. Solid song. Definitely liked this more than The Dreaming which was a giant piece of shit to me. Still doesn't do much for me but some songs were actually kinda pretty. I just don't think I can get down with her voice, but some of the musical aspects are pretty wild in a good way. Also, what the actual fuck is happening in Waking the Witch? Not sure if I should go down or up .5 for that song alone.
Classic 60's album but did not expect it to be so psychedelic from the beginning harmonies and such. Quite a pleasant surprise. WTF is happening in CTA - 102????? That was strange to put on this album but certainly got my attention. That backwards looping or whatever on Thoughts and Words was very Tomorrow Never Knows-esque. Definitely inspired by Revolver on this. More backwards looping on Mind Gardens. This shit is tripPpPpPpPpPpPy. Also what a cool fucking name for a song. Solid album I really liked a few songs but there were some duds I felt as well. 3.5 would be appropriate but I'm going to round up because I really liked those songs and it's Friday and I'm about to go swimming. You're welcome, Byrds.
Mowed my muuufuggin yard to this yesterday pretty damn good mowin music. I want to give a 3.5 but I’m going to round up because I fucking love What’s Golden
FUCK yes I love this album. So synthy and dark. Got into this last year when Andy Fletcher died and decided to give em a listen. What a great way to start an album. Immediately screams 80's but goes into a sweet synth-poppy loop reminiscent of Kraftwerk. So much going on here. Sweetest Perfection is such a pretty song. Especially when the strings come in and then bounces right back into more sounds. Then that solo(?) at the end. Whew. Personal Jesus is probably the one I know Depeche Mode by the most. Heard it tons of times on the radio but is one where if you listen to on purpose fucking slamajamma's. Halo. Very easy song to bob your head to. Love the build up. Waiting for the Night might be my least favorite song on this album but still is pretty groovy. Does a really good job of keeping me in though even though it doesn't necessarily go anywhere. Enjoy the Silence is sooooo fucking good. Words are veryyyy unnecessaryyyyy. Bangin my head to this bad boi. Also the end of the song is straight out of a Pink Floyd album. Policy of Truth has that insane bass or synth or whatever that sounds sick. Love this song. Blue Dress has that music stop and just awesome background sounds. Like every song. Yeah, if that end of Enjoy the Silence didn't convince you Clean absolutely proves these guys love their Floyd. Straight out of One of These Days. Fuck yes. This is an incredible sounding album and actually makes 80's music sound fucking awesome.
Pretty solid for what it is, I know Dylan is super influential to so much I listen to and I enjoy what I listen to by him, but it’s never really anything I find myself wanting to come back to save for a couple songs. That said Blowin in the Wind and Don’t think Twice are incredible songs. The rest is OK.
Lots of nice sounding flutes on here. Currently listening sitting in a quaint little coffee shop and its a ~vibe~ I specifically like Cyprus Avenue. The vibraphone on Ballerina is also so smooth. Was honestly heading for a 3 but it was really pleasant to my ear holes, opposite of Throbbing Gristle. And for that you get a 4 you crazy son of a bitch Van.
Oh hell yeah been waiting for some Throbbing Gristle! Oh fam this ain't it. What they just played is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in their rambling, incoherent response were they even close to anything that could be considered a rational song. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Ahh the best RHCP album. Finger lickin' funky. Honestly consider this the epitome of funk rock. Easy 5. Power of Equality is a fuckin banger and brings me back to belting it playing Tony Hawk. If You Have To Ask is the perfect blend of that funk/rock guitar. Breaking the Girl was one of the first songs I loved by the Pep's. Such a sweet sound but falls flat in comparison to the rest of the album. Still a 9/10 song. Funky Monks! Name of the doc on youtube about the creation of this album. Obviously funky and love that shreddage in the middle. Suck My Kiss brings the mf'in energy. Could Have Lied is such a juxtaposition to that. Probably the most emotional song on this album so happy got to see them play it at Nats Park. Mellowship has some of my fav vocals from Kiedis. And that keyboard (guitar effect?) during the chorus is so perfect. Prayin for a bettah dayeyyyyyyeeyeee! Give it Away is the first single from this album and there's a reason why they've ended with is 3/4 times I;ve seen them (4th being last song before encore). Hype af. BSSM is the perfect slow into hardrock jam. Don't really need to say anything about Under the Bridge. Dope ass song. Naked in the Rain is so fucking weird in the best way. Apache Rose Peacock is one of my all-time favs it's so funky. The Greeting Song is probably my least fav on the album. Still love that random off-note guitar note from every measure. Monster solo with a catchy bassline to start it off on My Lovely Man would love to hear it live. Awwwww shit Sir Psycho Sexy. Might be my favorite RHCP song of all time this song fucks and so does Psycho Sexy. That alien sounding bassline is so awesome. Definitely weird but ever since I saw it at Firefly it's been one of the trippiest songs they've created. Also it might be my favorite outro of any song ever. They're Red Hot kinda sucks but it's like a minute long so whatever. The way this album flows is incredible. I still hear the first note of the next song anytime I listen to a song by itself.
First three songs are BANGERS, specifically Foreplay/Long Time. What a jam. That bassline at the beginning is hype af. First 3 songs and then Smokin' are standouts. The others are solid but nothing crazy special. This is a solid 3.5 for me but I'll round up because of how much I love Foreplay/Long Time and because it's Friday.
Was definitely hoping for some more La Grange type songs on this but still was enjoying it, just nothing that special. Probably won't come back to most of these though.
Meh this is not very enjoyable but still solid as background listening. The instrumentals were pleasant enough to give it a 2 though. Especially It Was a Pleasure Then with all the guitar feedback.
Scarborough Fair is a beautiful song. I just don't think I'm a huge folk person. Good thing I had a lot of coffee this morning because listening to this and Nico is making me sleepy! The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) sounds like Babe Rainbow. Weird that Silent Night is on this, but I do like the news section over it.
Liked Funeral more than this tbh. It's good just nothing spectacular. Definitely find myself really liking some moments of certain songs but overall I just don't really see the HUGE appeal of Arcade Fire. Idk I'm going to listen again but this is a solid 3.
Weee are the ROBOTS. This is a jam. More jams that sound like video game soundtracks from the 80's! The Model rules. Definitely one of the songs I was excited to hear them play live. This album is just so crisp and perfect for background music. KRAFTPUNK
Man while Jimi has some JAMS he also has some songs that just linger there and don't do a whole lot for me. They're still enjoyable just feel like they're mad out of place. Probably could've taken some of those out of this. Burning of the Midnight Lamp is one that I always thought deserved more love from the masses. Feel like I need to listen to this whilst on drugs. Voodoo Child > Voodoo Chile (still solid Child just fucking rips a hole in my earhole)
Really like the sound of this album a couple songs in. Lots of sounds happening that all work well together. The dudes voice kinda sounds like a mixture of Kate Bush and Wavey Davey. Nevermind the voice changes. These guys have a pretty unique sound. Will definitely come back and listen to them more. Sucks they broke up but c’est la vie
First off, this cover is fuggin sweet. Also this album apparently originated trip-hop so I'm mad excited for that. This guy has a smokers voice that's for sure. I listened to this in the background at work and enjoyed it but nothing crazy special.
Can’t believe I just listened to slipknot for an hour straight. Pretty long album. Never could get into them when I was younger and this confirms that. Just not for me, but I did enjoy some moments and can respect it.
Paint it Black is a classic. Very nice of them to name track 2 after Evelyn. Under My Thumb rules. I've heard this song so many times but with nice headphones that fuzzzzzz really comes out. Also xylophone or marimba or vibraphone or whatever is great. Damn that fuzz comes back on Flight 505 right on. Ayyyy more fuzz on It's Not Easy. They should have the fuzz on every track. Overall this is just a middling album. Nothing special but has those two jams in Paint it Black and Under My Thumb.
That was pretty good!
This is pretty pleasant. Wild decision to have a random bomb explosion in the background during Rainy Day in June. All pretty standard stuff but a pleasant background listen. Sunny Afternoon is great.
Never really listened to much Common besides any features or the Chapelle Show performance. After listening to a few songs I love Common's flow and you can kinda tell Kanye is all over this. Just shows how insanely talented that man is. Fuck him now though. Oh wow they have the actual Chappelle Show live track. Pretty weird to have that in the middle of a studio album but I'm not complaining.
Man Bob's voice has taken a turn. Not bad just sounds like he smoked a pack or two daily for like 40 years. Adds a nice lil ruggedness to it. Nothing really stands out for me here, but nothing really bad. Just a little too long for what it is to me. Solid 3
Pretty solid. It was cool hearing MMJ cover Feelin Alright earlier this year live. Joe Cocker's version is loads ahead of this one though still imo. Mostly listened to this one as background music but had to pay attention to Shanghai Noodle Factory and that song was cool.
Easy 5 before listening. This is prime fuckin Ye when he was an actual artist. Definitely one of my favorite rap albums of all time. I FANTASIZE BOUT THIS BACK IN CHICAGOOOOO. 21ST CENTURY SCHIZOID MANNNNNNNN what a dope ass sample. I love All of the Lights but it is just wayyyyy more hype with the interlude before it. Just beautiful. I'M A MUTHAFUCKIN MONSTA! You know that shit is... fuckin' ridiculous. I love RZA. Runaway is probably Kanye's best song. Not my personal fav but it's top 3 no doubt and I'll never be mad if it comes on. The music video also fucks. So beautiful and emotional. Just wish that end piece was like a minute or two shorter lol. Reminds me of Blood on the Leaves where the song is a certified jam and then he does a weird autotune for like 2-3 minutes. I love this album.
Something about Elvis Costello annoys me and I can't put my finger on it. Sometimes it's pleasant but other times I just really really hate it. Idk I may give it another listen to see but not really feeling it in the moment.
It was ok nothing special. I was listening to it as background music so that may have played a part. Definitely love Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard though.
A bit boring. Some of the guitar and instrumental is good but also it's just 80s bullshit. Thank god cocaine was a thing back then. I did like Every Day is Like Sunday.
Pshhh 5. Obviously instrumental in changing the landscape of how records were made. The songs are all solid. This is known as the best Beatles album but imo there are some better ones, just barely. Still I think that hearing that it was always the best growing up made me put it on a higher pedestal. Also has my favorite Beatle track ever, "A Day in the Life"
I'm excited to hear I am Damo Suzuki and hoping to get some Can krautrock influence on this. Have this on also while working in the background but this seems like a MUCH more enjoyable punkish sound than what we've been hearing most of the time. Much more rhythmic and fun. Digging the first few songs. What You Need really stands out to me. If I just randomly heard this I would've thought it was LCD Soundsystem. Can definitely see the influence from this on Losing My Edge and Yr City's a Sucker specifically. Damn L.A. fuckin rules. Reminds me of another song but can't put my finger on it. Damo holds up! Kinda sounds like Bowie a bit in this one. Love the shoutout to Vitamin C in it what a great song. This song has some serious dissonance and darkness to it. My kinda shit. Last song is a crazy one. Really like it though. This was surprising to me after seeing it was a punk album after a string of duds, but damn I really, really enjoyed it. 4.5 in my mind and I can't bring myself to bring it up to a 5 so 4 it is. Good job the Fall you have restored my faith in punk even if it's not traditional punk.
Some easy listening in here. Nothing special but also nothing offensive. Solid 3
Classic reggae album. No crazy standouts but damn enjoyable. Definitely weird hearing a studio version of No Woman, No Cry. Also cool he wrote with his wife.
I really like Don't Know Why. Definitely had heard it before but a perfect rainy Sunday morning song. Come Away With Me was my Mom's ringtone for years and possibly still is. Alright as a song. This was definitely nothing special but enjoyable at the same time. Really like her voice and the standup bass sections. Not much else stood out. Another solid 3 in my book
This album rules. This and Favourite Worst Nightmare are prime Arctic Monkeys imo. Just beautifully scrappy with so many hooks that you can pretty much tap your shoes to on every track. While I dig the new Monkeys nothing comes close to these first two albums for me. Give me Favourite Worst Nightmare next!
Ahhh an East coast hip hop classic. Love me some Nas and this album is so smooth and poetic. The lyrics are just insane on this. "I never sleep...cuz sleep is the cousin of death" is one of my favorite lines ever. I honestly think I use it weekly. #teamnosleep "Life a Bitch and then you die...that why we get high" is another one I use on the reg. Listened to this song nonstop in high school thinking I was a baller ass bitch. Such a jazzy jam. The World is Yours is another classic and led to one of my favorite Nas tracks "Thief's Theme" based on some lyrics from this song. Love the beat on Halftime. The trumpets crush and obviously the lyrics. Another just classic bop of lyricism on Memory Lane. One Love is probably my favorite song on the album and it's probably because of Q-Tip bringing some more jazzy beats. Not sure if it's a xylophone but I love it with this song. It's very soothing. Would 1000% smoke a fat blunt to this song. Another jazzy bassline on One Time 4 Your Mind. Love the flow with his lyrics on this one. This album is weirdly dark and holds the fuck up! 5 stars for Nasty!
Feel like I've tried to get into Fleet Foxes multiple times so we'll see about this. Always felt they were a bit too folky for me. Yup defintiely a bit too folksy for me. Pretty landscape but it''s all more and the same for me. Not something I'd come back to very often. It's like weird lullabies. Pretty solid background music while working though. I need to listen to some hard shit after listening to this and Norah Jones this morning.
2 songs in and I love it. Cosmic Dancer specifically rocks. Definitely heard this recently on a Bowie documentary (which makes sense given the significance of this album to Glam Rock). Had to make sure Apple Music was working correctly with Jeepster. Just started and ended choppy. I'm sure it was an artistic decision but meh. Next two songs are good but nothing special. I have heard Bang a Gong a shit ton of times in my life and don't think I ever knew the name or band. Jam of a song. The sax is awesome. Planet Queen is also a jam. Love the fuzzzzz on Life's a Gas. Was boppin to Rip Off. Very solid album I had never heard of. I'll be back for more Cosmic Dancer.
Already knocking since I need to look this up on Youtube. This is pretty boring. Up until some wild harmonica in Bad Liquor. Honestly every single song sounds the same. It's not a bad sound just boring a lame. Should've known coming from a band named American Music Club. With all the words in the world they chose that?????? Lame. 1.5 and I'm going to round down on this one.
In love with this first song. Love the key change towards the end. Had this on in the background while working today but definitely coming back to it. Felt engaged in every song even though I wasn't 100% paying attention to it.
First four songs are some classics by Van. Already enjoying this a lot more than the last one we listened to by him. Just super easy songs to get into. Then we hit Into The Mystic. This was my parents first song so it tends to hit different even though their relationship went Into the Shitter. Lovely piece of music. Starts to drag a little bit towards the end but the first half carries it so damn much I'm giving Van a 4 that crazy son of a bitch.
I had this on as I was crazy busy working and stressed out. It was the perfect music for that. Groovy, jazzy, proggy all in one. I will definitely be coming back and listening to this one again. Lovely guitar licks in the background in so many of these songs.
This one seems pretty weird to be in here but here we go. Very strange that this is a soundtrack to a non-existent film. I really do like Under Wraps. Can't put my finger on it but it sounds like something I've heard before. Sounds From The Big House has some bomb and ominous keyboards. The Swinging Detective has an anxiety inducing sax in the best way. Also a solid guitar. This is my fav song so far. This album was a whirlwind. Fuckin weird. Want to go 3.5 here but bumping up for the uniqueness of it. Also the man with the golden arm rules.
Some classic raps albums these past couple weeks! I'm not gonna write a song by song review cuz I blasted this in the car today and had already heard it dozens and dozens of times. Pretty much every song on this album is a banger. Love the transitions from song to song with skits at the end. Money Trees is one of my favorite hype songs. GANG SIGNS OUT THE WINDOW YA BISH. HOPING ALL OF EM OFFEND YOU YA BISH. What a fuckin G. Another one of my favorites that's not even technically on the album (but was the first single?) is The Recipe. Women Weed n Weather. Kung Fu Kenny's breakout will go down as a classic for years to come. Bring on TPAB next.
This was ok. Not really my jam but I do really like Epic and the War Pigs cover. Leaning towards a 2-3 but going to go with 3
Wild this dude was on Jefferson Airplane's first album as a drummer. Also wild that he tried to hack up his next band with an axe. What's not so wild is this album. It seems very inconsistent and all over the place. Wiki says that Skip sent these songs to his producer as demo's and they released them without fleshing out any production. It shows. A couple songs I felt could really turn into something cool. Can definitely see the psychedelia in it, just needed that push. This album is meh to me.
Alex Turner is just a freakishly good musician. Listened to this in the background while working but the soundscapes are so lush. I hadn't listened to this album too much but if anyone digs it their next one is really damn good. Go Alex Turner
Never really have sought out Joni Mitchell so we'll see how this goes. A few songs in and I really dig it. Her voice is so soothing with some good instrumentals. I especially like the sax parts on Car On a Hill. That songs a jam. I listened to this while on a walk so not too much detail here, but I really enjoyed that. Rounding up a 3.5 to a 4
This one started out pretty strong for me. Definitely kept my attention for most of it but ultimately just blended into one giant song. Not bad by any stretch but just longer than it needed to be. I think that was the problem I had with the last Doves album too. Swayed back and forth between 2-4 so I'm going a solid 3 here.
Oh wow this is hurting my head. Not sure if I can take 56 minutes of this. There is so much screaming and banging. LOLOL someone in the global reviews said it was thought-provoking. Cut my ears off please. Is this what it was like to live in Nazi Germany as a Jewish person? This is what I feel like meth is like but in music form. Honestly I'm not finishing this. I've heard enough and don't see it turning around. Not wasting my time getting yelled at on a Wednesday morning.
Never have gotten into Iron Maiden besides whatever songs were probably on guitar hero. Songs start to blend into each other for me kinda all sounding the same. Don’t really dig the voice but instrumentals are cool. The number of the beast and run to the hills fuckin rip. Pretty sure number of the beast was in a Tony Hawk game. Those two songs were the only ones I knew going in and I liked them the most. Gonna go with a solid 3 here but ultimately feeling like a 3.5
I remember I was in Tim's parents basement the first time I listened to this album with my headphones. The production is insane (as the case with most Kendrick) and the funkiness that Thundercat brought to it is unmatched. I remember playing Wesley's Theory for some friends after and they had never heard a rap song like this. Such a jam. Love Kendrick continues with his interludes with the first being a jazzy little bit. King Kunta is one you can bump in your car. Love it. We want the funk! Institutionalized is one of my favorites on this rekkid. Snoop actually fucking kills it which haven't been able to say for awhile. Really Love These Walls but it was always a struggle to play it loud because of the beginning. u is a crazy one and really shows struggles Kendrick is going through. Love the shift change halfway through. Alright is another one to bump. His flow on this is just insane to me. For Sale is great and crazy it's considered an interlude. Ends with what reminds me of something from Willy Wonka. How Much a Dollar Cost is beautiful. From beats to lyrics to flow. Just an incredible track. Blacker the Berry is so fuckin hype. Makes me want to riot. You Aint Gotta Lie tones it down a little bit. Then comes i to bring the heat again. Weird that he used a live(ish?) version of this song when there is definitely one that isn't. Interesting choice but tbh I think I like the studio one more. Mortal Man is beautiful and comes full circle with the album. Perfect top off to have Tupac close it out. Album was initially supposed to be called Tu Pimp A Caterpillar as an acronym to TUPAC. Overall I think this album is a masterpiece. Kendrick will forever be one of my favorite artists based on this album alone. Incorporating new sounds into some hip-hop and having some deeply exploratory themes makes me thing this one will stand the test of time. There is also a sister album "Untitled" that has the same production but you can tell are demos. Honestly some really great songs on there. Praise be
Whoa weird I just watched the Exorcist last week so this brought back some weirdness this morning. Parts of this opening track feel like they should be in a space movie. That part at the end of Pt. I where the dude just says the instruments and then they all start coming in is pretty sick. This song is being added to all my playlists. Interesting growling on Pt. II. Feel like this could've been part of the Exorcist. The end of Pt. II sounds like I'm back at Renn fest. Overall some really good stuff in here. Wish it was fleshed out a little bit more but I was into it almost all the way through. Easy 4.
Have listened to this album a number of times, I love it. Serious hits and the songs that aren't complete jams are still songs to sing along to. Overall this is a great album. Standouts: Band on the Run is his Bohemian Rhapsody and quite the jam. Jet - love the fuzzy bass Let Me Roll It has that delay and I'm obsessed with it. Also sounds like John Lennon singing Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five - nothing needs to be said just a fun bop All jams. Just unfortunately some of the other songs don't hit as well. Can't in my right mind give this a 5 but it's lingering in the 4.2 area.
This was alright. Had it on in the background while working and it sounded good enough, but it also all sounded the same. Enjoyable enough though
Really enjoyed the bluesy psychedelia of this. Had aspects of blues, jazz, rock, and funk all in one. Never have gotten into Dr. John a whole lot I just know he passed away a few years ago and The Nude Party covered a song by him (Somebody Tryna Hoodoo Me). Will be listening to more Dr. John
Second time in as many weeks where I ran to Iron Maiden. The highs were higher on the last one but as a whole I like this album a bit more. The singer is definitely different unless something insane happened to his throat hole. Going 3.5 but rounding down. Just don’t think most Iron Maiden is something I’ll come back to.
A few songs in and nothing spectacular. Nothing terrible either. Only songs I knew coming in were Tumbling Dice and Sweet Virginia. Both are confirmed jams. Didn't know Let It Loose by name but recognize it from The Depahted. Might watch that tonight now. Another Stones album another 3. Always thought I've been missing something with the Stones. Like obviously they have their known jams that fuckin rock but I feel like if I don't know one of them then the song is just meh. Beatles >>>>>
Didn't realize I was going to funk town this morning but I am not upset by it. Only song I knew was Give Up The Funk but every song was pretty legit even though they started melding into each other (partially blame that on work, fuck work). Also what the hell sound is happening in Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples it sounds like shitting noises. Either way I see myself coming back to some of these jams for sure.
Heard this a number of times growing up but always thought it was weird to open up the set with Dark Star. Imo that's a perfect song for the middle. Picks up strong with St. Stephen, although I could do without that weird western part at the end. The eleven is one that I think is a pretty good look at where the Dead end up in their career. Perfect transition from Eleven into Turn on Your Love Light, a classic sung by Pig Pen RIP. Bassline towards the end is tasty. Death Don't Have No Mercy is a long bluesy one with some eerie organ work towards the end. Allie would HATE Feedback. Could very well see people on psychedelics freaking out at this one. I personally love the controlled chaos of it all. Overall great live album that was revolutionary in its recording techniques, but there are also better live Dead (hehe) albums out there. 3.5 but I'm rounding up.
This was a strange mixture of genres I feel like. Really would like some surf rock parts but then it would crumble into something I didn't necessarily dig. 2.5 but rounding down.
I don't think I'll ever get the Prince hype but I will say that album was much better than the others we have listened to. 3.5 but keeping it down.
That started off a bit slow but turned out to be quite pleasant. I still cant completely get behind their voices as they make most songs sound the same to me but nice morning music.
Never heard of this band in my life. First song started boring as hell but love the jam at the end. I'm on Star Sign and it's kinda starting to piss me off. Sounds like kinda bland rock. Has some solid guitar parts to it but nothing special. Got real boring towards the end. ERRRRRR
Nick is scared of Beck but I really like him. The way he can bend genres has always been intriguing to me. It really shows in Hotwax. Derelict is spooky! Where It's At is such a jam. Have never heard High 5 but loving it. Makes me want to Rock the Catskills. Had this on in the background but Beck makes some awesome shit. This is about as close to a 5 without actually getting one as possible. Might get one on a revisit from me. I hope we get some more Beck albums
Never heard of these guys either. Wow jk this is definitely Damon Albarn. This dude is insane he non-stop works. I wonder how he decides what's going to be solo, Blur, Gorillaz, or this. Love him though. Pretty excited now! Have this on in the background while working but I am digging it about halfway through. Crazy good production from Danger Mouse here. Damn the Good the Bad and the Queen song fucking rules. I can't wait to check more of these guys out.
Man oh man I used to listen to this every day on my walkman back in the day. Such a chill Dead album that so many moments of tenderness. Box of Rain was my favorite song by them for so long and could never figure out why they didn't have Phil sing more. Another GD classic, Friend of the Devil has that beutiful mandolin sound which will reappear in Ripple later. Beautiful tune. Also a song that says Anne Marie in it take notes James. Sugar Magnolia is THE song to listen to on a sunny day. Great tune and vibe with that steel pedal. Operator's got that harmonica! Works perfectly into a chill song sung by Pigpen. I always thought it was crazy growing up that the first 4 songs on this album had 4 different singers. Candyman is such a chill tune and also has probably my favorite moment on the rekkid. The solo around the 3:11 mark will always be one of my favorite spacy moments in music. Coming back into the harmony after it still gives me goosebumps. Love. Another chill diddy in Ripple with the mandolin. Also one of the most covered Dead songs. Brokedown Palace is another beautiful chill song. Love the placement of Till the Morning Comes. Breaks up two pretty slow (albeit jams) songs. Finishing up with arguably their most popular song is great. Flashback moment: I played this song for my 8th grade class and someone halfway through said "MAN WHENS THIS SONG GON END IM DONE WITH THE COUNTRY" That man knows nothing. Still a jam. This album is different from most other Grateful Dead albums. Shows a more polished look by them while retaining their roots and "beauty."
Ah old people music. Nothing spectacular about this one. Didn't realize Love Hurts was a cover so that's cool. Pretty vanilla but has some pretty parts. This is a 2.5 for me but I'll round up because it's Friday but don't think I don't think you're old and white as hell, Everly Brothers.
This album fuckin rules. What a debut. I went through a huge Pearl Jam phase in 2014 and listened to this album almost every day. Going to watch their MTV unplugged now after this.
This was jazzy af. Had no clue what I was getting into but it was like a jazzy King Crimson. Had it on while working but really found myself digging it. Really liked 7 and 7 is. Great record.
Love I Feel the Earth Move! Never knew who sang this one but it's great with some solid soft guitar in the background. Same with It's Too Late! Great chill song. She has a pretty beautiful voice. Kinda tapered off there in the middle but finished strong af 💪 with (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
3rd Leonard Cohen album. Gave the first two 3's so lets get it Lenny. Really enjoying Master Song. The rest was on in the background but still enjoyable. This must've been before his voice got gnarly. Leonard "3" Cohen.
Never heard of these guys but they got a bomb producer on this one! Halfway through and it's pretty bland britrock. There are some good moments but it's nothing I can see myself coming back to. Let's see how the second half is. I have definitely heard Why Does It Always Rain On Me? probably in some romcom. It's ok just familiar. Really liked She's So Strange. Still just alright britrock. I will say that Godrich did wonders with the production. Very crisp.
Couple songs in and this is pretty badass violining. We Will Not Be Lovers jams with the guitar in the background too. Random Blackbird in the middle of Sweet Thing. Pretty cool rendition. This is usually not my favorite music, but I enjoyed this. Went on a little too long, but found myself nodding my head or tapping my feet to the songs quite a bit. Kinda started to lose me as it got extra irish towards the end.
Pretty pumped for this after the first Byrds record was a pleasant psychedelic surprise. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wtf was that Byrds. It probably doesn't deserve a 1 but the Christian song at the beginning made me want to vomit. I want to give it a 1 so bad but there were some good moments musically. Lots of pedal steel which I love.
Nice give me the psychedelia back now. This really starts off hot with Purple Haze --> Manic Depression --> Hey Joe Really appreciate Hendrix's ability to create some subtle songs that really hit hard (Hey Joe, Wind Cries Mary, Third Stone - which just reminds me of Jim Morrison) That being said he has some true bangers all over this one. And the songs in between kinda drift you into a dreamlike state. Flow very well together. Love ending with Red House. Such a great bluesy song. Classic Hendrix love it.
Excited to listen to this after the last King Crimson album. I had a long one typed out but it got deleted somehow ugh. Key points - love the weirdness of this album. At points reminds me of Floyd which makes sense with the progginess. The bass slaps. Violin was a great addition over some of this freeform stuff. Larks' Tongues pt. 1 was a serious rollercoaster. Rips, then is spooky, then is beautiful. Easy Money is also a solid number. I really really need to listen to more King Crimson.
Pretty solid punk album actually!
Flavor Flav has to be the best hype man of all time. Funny cuz I first knew about him on VH1 on those talking heads shows about the 90s and shit. Dude seems nuts but hypes me tf up. Chuck D has such a distinctive voice as well. Really solid stuff I think this might be the first Public Enemy album I've listened to in full. This album reminds me of the sample Beastie Boys album which I really liked. Going with a 3.5 but I'll round up since I was boucning around cleaning my house to it.
Wow I gotta say I did not expect to like this as much as I did. Really thought his goofy voice was going to ruin it for me. He has a sort of sadness/melancholy to his singing and background of songs. Really kinda hit. I listened to a bunch Toy Story songs afterwards too. Pixar really nailed it getting him for their songs.
Starts with one of those songs I never realized was Iggy Pop that I love. Same with the Passenger. Great tunes. Some of the middle songs start to sound similar to each other but still pretty good. Neighborhood Threat sounds like Bowie. Overall a solid record. Nothing crazy special to me but enjoyable. Respectable 3.
Meh. I only knew the first song coming in but I kinda just don’t like Courtney Loves voice. I did like Northern Star though but none of the rest really did much for me. 2.5 that I’m rounding DOWN.
Pretty solid gangster rap album with the classics Wicked, Check Yo Self, and of course It Was a Good Day. Little choppy throughout and had a ton of interludes it felt but when he’s on he’s on
Dolly's voice is like no other. Pretty peaceful good country but nothing that really stood out to me too crazily. Debated between a 3 or 4. Like the length of the album though. Also I’m not quite sure she was actually singing at the halftime show on thanksgiving but hot damn she looks and sounds amazing for 77. Props yo.
Not as heavy hitter as Violator but damn these guys know how to do the whole gothic 80s sound perfectly. I usually hate the 80s sound but these guys have really made me appreciate it more. The first few songs and definitely Strangelove fucking rock.
Some good ol classic kinky reggae. Great morning listening while cleaning my house. Not a lot of classics but it all goes well together.
I used to listen to the track School’s Out sooo much growing up but never listened to the album. Hopefully the rest is as good as the track. If you played Gutter Cat Vs. The Jets to me blind I would’ve guessed it’s a Les Claypool song. Sick ass baseline and weird af. Love this song. Blue Turk doesn’t have nearly enough Donald Faison but still a sick jazzy one. Great tune. Kept thinking how My Stars would be sweet to listen to live. Gonna try to dig one up on YouTube after this run. Grande Finale was just that. Crazy sounds! Reminded me of Pink Floyd a bit. Love a good concept album. Was leaning towards a 4 but that last song and the fact it’s a concept album sealed the deal for me. 5 stars great output, Alice.
Really dug the first song but unfortunately nothing after that really came close. The production is pretty solid on it with the orchestral feel to it. I liked his voice as well. All this to say it felt a bit uninspired and and meshed together a lot. Something just didn’t sit right with me and got pretty boring pretty quick.
Not my most favorite of albums. Kinda left me Unsatisfied and totally didn’t give me a boner. I liked Seen Your Video mostly because no one sang. Although there were some moments I felt like I was listening to a Tony Hawk song. Meh
Damn I did not know much at all about the Fugees going into this one but I really really liked it. Between the beats and a bunch of songs I didn’t even know where the Fugees I was bumping this. Killing me Softly is such a great song one of my favorites. Had it stuck in my head since I finished the album.
My first foray into Taylor Swift! Will this turn me into a swiftie? I’ll let you know in 48 min! I listened to this while walking around Baltimore which gave a good vibe for it. I obviously knew some songs going in but it was more than I thought. Funny thing is I thought some of the non-singles or radio hits were some of the better ones. Especially liked Clean to end it off that had some smooth synth to it. That all being said I’m giving this a solid 3. Classic pop album that’s just a little too overproduced for my liking and made some of the songs sound the same. Definitely not bad in any way but I don’t really see myself coming back to it. Wonder how many (or any) more Taylor albums are on here.
I just don't think I get Prince. Could groove to some songs like 1999 but overall really was not vibing most of the time and confused at others (the crying in Automatic?) Songs were dragged out unnecessarily to the point where I kept having to look to see how much was left in each song. Prince is weird and I usually like weird but I actively hate his weirdness. Leaning very close to a 1 on this but had enough moments to warrant a 2.
Only have heard a few of these tracks before that I know of, but the Talking Heads sound just hits something for me. Quirky and fun with layers of sounds. Surprised they didn't add Love --> Building on Fire as it's a jam and a half. Definitely not Talking Heads greatest output, but love how you can see their sound develop from this to More Songs about Building and Food and eventually Remain in Light.
Love Belle & Sebastian. There is something so comforting about them. Seemingly doing so much with so little. I haven't heard this album but think I've heard a couple songs. I love Stars of Track and Field especially the trumpet and buildup at the end. Seeing Other People is another great one that builds and adds layers of different instruments. Some songs start to sound pretty similar to each other I think because of the voice, but still very calming indie rock that hits me in the right spot with random instruments going in and out during songs. Feels very intimate. I think I'm actually going to use my IMP rewards points to go see them at the Anthem since it was just announced WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Was wondering what this would sound like since the genre is just "Fusion" on Apple Music. Birdland certainly portrays that. Towards the end I actually recognize this song from somewhere. It's quite the earworm I'm bouncing. Slows down a bit with A Remark You Made but but that solo towards the end is bomb. I'm guessing it's some kind of keyboard but whatever it is is lovely. Teen Town has that sick ass bass. Harlequin with the sax. I feel like every song has it's own featured instrument which I love. Weird that Rumba Mama goes into a live song? Kinda sounds like Santana's Soul Sacrifice. Back in the studio it seems with the bass driven Palladium. Havona has starts out with that brown noise. Almost shit myself. This was a very solid 4 for me. Almost a sneaky 5.
Classic Metallica album. Really good stuff but it starts to lose me after a little bit. Still insanely good instrumentations on here. One might be one of my favorite songs of all time it’s so fucking good. Bit long for my liking
Outkast is so good from their production, beats, flow between Big Boi and Andre, and their ability to bend genres. Love this album it had been years since I’ve listened to it and it was a refreshing listen that makes me want to blast down another Outkast phase. 4.5 but rounding up. Only knock is it’s a little long but still was an easy listen. Give us another OutKast album or tour please!!!!
Pretty solid blues album with some sax thrown in there for good measure. Nothing that crazily blew me away but definitely enjoyed it. Going with a 3 even though I think it deserves a 3.5. Make it 10 stars!
2 songs in and I don’t really give a shit about this so far. Wishing Well is kinda catchy. Couple more songs and meh. There ls some good instrumentals on the songs but nothing that grabs me at all. Just has a lot of the 80s sound I don’t like. Rain has some solid synths. Overall I don’t see myself coming back to any of these tunes. Was kinda close to a 1
As much as Michael Jackson is a fuckin weirdo I'm going to put aside my feelings about him and make it all about the music. Album starts of super strong with some bangers. Especially love Don't Stop, Rock With You, and Off the Wall. The music especially is good and his voice just makes a perfect combo. Great combo of disco, pop, R&B with some funk mixed in. Reminds me of some RAM songs in a way. Was rolling strong really until She's Out of My Life which I don't really care for. I Can't Help It is alright as well. Really starts to tail off in the second half. While he's a weirdo his talent is undeniable. This is a pretty soft 4 for me. Just wish the second half held up.
Not my favorite type of hard rock/metal/hair but hard to deny Eddie Van Halen’s guitar. Dude is a master on it. Solid 3
Really solid instrumentals but the chanting started giving me a headache after a little bit :( but still can’t stress enough how differently awesome some of these songs are
This is randomly the first Zeppelin album my mom got me as a kid who wanted to GET THE LED OUT. I think she just liked the cover or name or whatever. Either way while it's not known as their greatest output (which makes sense since some songs are actual unreleased songs from earlier albums) it's definitely very solid and not totally stolen! I think if they broke this into 2 albums it could get a 5 from me. The Rover rocks. If we could just join hands! In My Time of Dying is a top Zeppelin song for me and a masterpiece. Some of the best 11 minutes in music. Heavy but can be soft and sludgy *cough* House of the Holy is a classic. Not much to be said except funny that it's not on the previous album (Houses of the Holy). Trampled Under Foot is groovy af. Kashmir is just a classic Zeppelin song that almost everyone knows. In the Light is a weird psychedelic one a bit unusual to Zeppelin but incredible imo. Of course theres gotta be at least one folky song that belongs in LOTR or some shit with Bron-Yr-Aur. Ten Years Gone just reminds me of an episode of That 70's Show. But love the changes ups in it. Fucking love Ten Years Gone - "rivers always reach the sea" Night Flight probably my least favorite on the album but still a solid track to boogie to. Not sure about you if you can't bob your head to Wanton Song. Just kidding Boogie With Stu is my least favorite. Man this is an easy 4.5 for me but I just can't bring myself to give it a 5 because of some of the songs on side four. Take out some of the clear unreleased songs and it's perfect.
I really don’t know much AC/DC but Highway to Hell is so iconic and instantly reminds me of Little Nicky. Great tune. The rest of this album is consistent as hell. Usually not a huge fan of a lot of these arena type bands but this album rocked. Also huge appreciation for Bon Scott’s voice. Never realized how great it is besides the usual AC/DC hits.
Like most albums the highs were high lows were low. Liked really random parts of songs and disliked parts of the same song. Get Free was the only one I knew before and definitely have always thought it was the Offspring
Great album instrumentation yet again. These songs fuckin rocked. I especially loved Incident at Neshabur. So many changes in that song and at one point thought it was the Grateful Dead. Never have taken a deep dive into Santana but it might be time. Hoping they have Soul Sacrifice coming up love that song
Definitely not the Temptations I expected to hear that sang My Girl. Turns out this is later with some different members and definitely seem to be going for a Sly and the Family Stone psychedelic sound. Some of it works some of it doesn’t. I know I’ve heard I Ain’t Got Nothin before somewhere and Papa Was a Rolling Stone was solid.
First two songs are absolute jams. As is Tales of Brave Ulysses. The rest is pretty solid but nothing to blow your socks off. Going to give a solid middle 3.
I’ve listened to a few Bjork songs because the Radiohead sub always recommends her, but never really could get into it. Let’s see how a whole album holds up. Enjoyed human behavior. Her voice is interesting. I find it captivating yet uneasy. Wow love crying this is groovy. there’s more to life incorporates some house music into it. Like someone in love sounds like that Johanna Newsome album. Love the switch up in genres on this one. Come to me is super atmospheric trip hop love. Overall I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Really clean production and would’ve never guessed it came out in the early 90s. This is what Kate Bush wishes she could be.
This was a strange one. Was hoping to like it a lot more since I’ve really dug some of Zappa’s stuff we’ve listened to already. Definitely can appreciate the dogs at counterculture and hippies in humor even though it comes off as pretty pretentious. Would be willing to give this one another listen but first impression is meh.
I know some Springsteen but never have done a huge dive into him. Excited for this one. Well that was just meh for me. Not terrible just nothing that did much for me. Liked the last song Jungleland but otherwise I now know why I’ve never gotten super into Springsteen.
Never really liked the Cure listening to single songs here and there but have really dug Disintegration and Pornography. Flows well and is just gothic af. Robert Smith rules
Never been able to get completely into The Beach Boys but I’ve really only tried Pet Sounds as a whole album. Definitely a different sounding album than I was expecting from them. Definitely enjoyed it high 3
Widely considered the best album a former Beatle released, this album really shows how great of a songwriter George was. Sucks because some of these songs could've ended up Beatles songs. Also insane that he made this after the Beatles broke up and was still only 27! Unfortunately it's also insanely long and has some songs that just seem like filler compared to the rest. If he whittled this down to a single album it would've been 5/5 easy but alas, can't quite go there with a 4.5
I have no clue if what I listened to was correct but it was ok. Probably good for what it is but what it is is not for me. Also seemed like there was a pet whistle used that hurt my ears
This dude sounds like Bob Dylan. Not a great thing. Nothing really stuck out to me but also found myself wishing it would end sooner than later. And it’s only 29 minutes! Snooze.
Annoying it's not on Apple Music! Or at least it's hard to find so had to go to Youtube for this one. Well this already isn't some early morning easy listening. Alright not gonna lie I did not make it all the way through on this one. A song would end and then immediately go into what sounded like the exact same jazz-thrash as before. I'm very cool with music like that but not an entire albums worth. 1.5 and rounding down. I won't be back. Also John Zorn is probably Jim Zorn's brother so he can go right ahead and fuck himself.
This is refreshing after Jim Zorns brother. Rikki Don't Lose That Number is a song I've never sought out just heard in the background. What a jam of a track. Pretty easy listening so far. Nothing really standoutish except for the first couple songs. Nothing too crazy on here but definitely enjoyable. Solid work Steel Daniel.
I’ve heard this first song so many times in my life and would never be able to tell you the name. Great song. Pretty run of the mill stuff I would expect from CSN until Wooden Ships, which I always knew as a Jefferson Airplane song. Had no clue it was a cover. This song fucks. Like most CSN it all kinda meshes together for me a bit. But this certainly did have some jams and a perfect Saturday morning album.
This was just alright. Nothing special, pretty meh, and just got a bit repetitive for me. Don't think I needed to listen to it before I die.
Some classic Christmas songs on here. Not my favorite of the Christmas song styles but always a joy.
Would've guessed some of these songs could be the Flaming Lips. The lead singer sounds weirdly similar to Wayne Coyne. There were some solid songs on here and can see myself coming back.
Definitely have heard Sunshine Superman the song a ton of times but would never be able to tell you it was Donovan. Great tune. This is really good psychedelic folk. Three King Fishers really shows the sitar. Noah Kahan totally ripped off Season of the Witch. Like this one better anyway. Was thinking The Fat Angel sounded like Jefferson Airplane then they said Jefferson Airplane which was weird. JA also covered the song later on so maybe I've heard that before. Random guitar parts in Celeste remind me of House of Cards by Radiohead. Sounds like the coin trick. This was an extremely pleasant listen. Donovan nailed down the psychedelic folk angle which is not usually my favorite but he does it so well.
I have no clue what I was expecting to hear but it wasn't that. Wild songs and seem pretty ahead of it's time. Definitely thought that was Black Sabbath in that last song. not sure how often I'll come to this 3.5 but I gotta round up for just being original af.
Something about the Who just doesn't do it for me. I definitely like some of these songs but overall meh. Really do dig Townshend's and Moon's Guitar/Drums (especially The Ox) on a number of these tracks. Definitely not bad for a debut but there is better Who for me.
Don't think I've heard most of these. Pretty much just have listened to the mainstream SOAD songs that everyone knows. Excited to dive into their debut and see how much (if at all) their sound changed. Classic Nu-Metal sound on these songs (not a bad thing). I'm really digging Sugar. Just kidding I've heard Spiders and fucking love it. Sounds like a "prequel" to Aerials. This is getting me pumped for Toxicity which I'm guessing is on here. Outro of Soil fucking rules. Really loving Peephole too even with its weird circus sounds. SOAD is some classic nu-metal with some quirky aspects to it. Solid 4 for being entertaining and hyping me tf up.
I've listened to some Mingus but not this album, but love some good jazz! This was a great album to do some work around the house to. Got kinda dark at some points which I enjoyed. Classic yazz album.
This is some really good stuff. I have absolutely no clue what they're saying in any of the songs but the guitar work is incredible. Not sure how much I'll come back to listen to this, but I've been on a renaissance to find "Khruangbinny" bands and this scratches a similar kinda itch.
This was much better than I expected going in. Definitely grooving just a little long for my taste
Feel like I’m either going to love or hate this because of Zappa. Love a good weird album but feel like he is weird to be weird. Idk maybe just me. Really enjoying the guitar work on the first track. Can’t tell if he’s making fun of doo-wop or whatever on “Go Cry on Someone Else’s Shoulder.” Help I’m a rock! The DC part where the keep repeating AC/DC part made me alol. So fucking weird. This album definitely has enough to keep me interested with its random ass commentary and noises. Not sure if it’s enough to bring me back though. So far I’ve liked the first album the most with Zappa.
Pretty solid punk. Loved the cover of I Got You Babe. Definitely got a bit raunchy during some of it which I digged. Solid 3
I used to listen to Brass in Pocket all the time growing up and is a classic. The rest of the album flowed really well and had pretty interesting instrumentations. Downright weird at times and reminded me a bit of some Talking Heads. We need to normalize playing Stop Your Sobbing to people who are crying. The end of Lover of Today also rules with the layered guitar. Also, the bassline on some songs (specifically Mystery Achievement) create such a dynamic sound to build off of. Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would.
This definitely starts out with a Talking Heads sound. Not surprising with my boy D Byrne. Mea Culpa has some wild samples on this one already with some backing of African drums and creepy instrumentals. Digging it. Bassline on Regiment rules. This one reminds me of Thievery Corporation a bunch. Help Me Somebody is another Talking Heads sounding instrumental. Eno and Byrne are so damn good with this kinda sound. Love it. Got distracted towards the end but it got a bit soundscapey. Still pretty good listening though. David Byrne just gets me.
I listened to this album a few years ago when it randomly had a big following online. Don't remember a thing which isn't great but we'll see. They sound like Jungle in an alternate universe. I was running around the house for this one but found myself tapping my toes or dancing to a number of songs. Really enjoyable stuff and sounds great on headphones.
This album has some hits to jam out to but a lot of the songs just end up meshing into the others. Want to go 3.5 but can’t round up based on most tracks not really going places for me. Still very enjoyable though! I love so many offspring songs but some songs on every album just fall a bit flat.
A lot of world music recently. Not a terrible thing. Nothing too crazy sticks out to me on this except I immediately recognized Candela. Definitely sampled in a Lazarus song Enemy and I in the movie Alpha Dog. Love when that happens. I appreciate this for what it is, but a whole hour is daunting for most albums and especially this for me. Not an absolutely terrible album at all, just not for me and would never really find myself coming back to it. 2.5 but rounding down cuz I'm feeling saucy.
I've listened to this countless times and know it's known as one of the most influential albums of all time. Just has never completely clicked for me. The album has two absolute classics with "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows." The production on all the songs are pretty incredible and it's easy to see how this was super progressive in 1966. The placement of sounds on this record seem super precise and I really think it helps to listen with headphones. I really appreciate it and enjoy the songs a lot more while paying more attention to it. 3.5 but I'll round up for the random psychedelianess of it.
First two songs I know. Although admittedly not my favorite Eagles songs. Chug all night is super cheesy. Cheese cheese kinda cheesy. Most Of Us Are Sad is a snoozer and making me sad. No real notes on the others. Just kinda boring until Earlybird which I enjoyed. Peaceful Easy Feeling is solid enough. For some reason most of these Eagles songs bore tf out of me. Between a 2-3 but I’ll round up for the singles and Earlybird. Plus, I had a bad day and I hate the fucking Eagles. #gobucs
Man it's been awhile since I've listened to this. It's so daunting at 40 songs and 2 hr. 25 min. Not gonna write a whole review here. But the standouts to me are: The Way You Move Bust Hey Ya! Roses (My Dad would play this song every time he drove Katie and I over to my Mom's, but it was censored so it just said "crazy ______" a bunch. Now that I'm typing this out I wonder if he knew and was dedicating that to my Mom) Prototype (Tame Impala has covered this it's awesome) Behold a Lady The album has such great sounds and production. Speakerboxxx has some funky and hardcore songs with some excellent features in Killer Mike and Jigga. The Love Below has a little jazzy-funk thing going on. Definitely nice that the album(s) are genre bending. My Favorite Things was wild. Overall a great album, but insanely too long. Also sad that it pretty much was foreshadowing Outkast's break up with both albums pretty much being solo endeavors. Definitely an album that had the opportunity to be a 5 for me but really was just too long it was hard to pay attention throughout. Unless you’re Christopher Nolan don’t make a movie length album.
First off, this is a sick album cover and I'm now fully expecting some batshit heavy prog rock. This first song is incredible. Classic prog rock and gives me random Floyd moments, especially with their Pompeii show. Some really good instrumental stuff here. I could've gone without "Are You Ready, Eddy?" though. Great album but can't go into the 5 range with this one as much as I like it.
Some solid CCR with a couple duds. The good far outweighs the bad though. Heard It Through The Grapevine is one of my favorite songs ever and their cover of it is insane. Also really weird but I watched Walk the Line earlier today and they had Elvis singing a rendition of My Baby Left Me. Weird for it to happen on the same day is all. Anyway, 4.
Hotel California? More like Hotel Calibornia. Hahahaha the Eagles lost yesterday this is perfect. Let’s see if this has anymore heat to it than Philly’s offense last night. Starts off with probably the most popular Eagles song as the title track. For all the times I’ve heard this it still holds up pretty well. What a snoozer of a second song. Next. Life in the Fast Lane is another popular one. Solid track. Maybe someday I’ll find that Wasted Time is not a waste of time, but that day is not today. Enjoyed the reprise a bit more tbh. Victim of Love I’ve heard but doesn’t really go anywhere minus that one solo. Honestly the second half of this album sucks to me. Eagles can make some solid hits but I’ve yet to hear a whole really good album. So meh.
Oh boy I'm excited for this one. Besides an awesome cover I've heard this album is super controversial. You either love it or hate it. Pretty annoying need to listen on Youtube. First song in and I'm getting contrarian vibes. Angus probably fucking loves this album. Some parts remind me of Zappa, some parts remind me of really early Pink Floyd. All parts mostly bad. Ok I need to look up more about why this exists and yes it's certainly a Zappa produced album. It all makes sense now. There are some random moments that I like above all the weird bullshit. That being said it's mostly weird bullshit. Music shouldn't be made just because it CAN be made. It's also entirely too long. Floating between a 1-2 55 minutes in. Would give a 1.5 but I'm rounding down. Not for me.
Ooo Depeche Mode vibes. I listened to this on a walk and enjoyed the gothic/darkness of it. Pretty solid instrumentals. I really liked Flood II.
Something about Michael Stipe’s voice has led me to not listen to a crazy amount of REM. That being said I think it works pretty well with the instrumentals on the first few songs. Nothing really crazy special but sounds like some solid alt rock. Exhuming McCarthy is the first song that really stands out to me. Especially that one baseline. Kinda rolled my eyes when End of the World came on but realized I’ve never really sat down primarily to listen. Such a happy toned sad song. Feel like “The One I Love” was on a rock band or guitar hero. Another one I’d probably like a lot more if I hadn’t heard it a million times before. Another solid baseline on Lightnin Hopkins. Oddfellows Local 151 has some gothic darkness to it that I love. Overall I really liked some part of this album and wish I could give it a 3.5, but I don’t see myself coming back to it much except Oddfellows.
This album fucking rocks. One of the Bowie ones I have been super familiar with for awhile and have on vinyl. Love the whole story of it. Every song fits perfectly on this album and flows so well. Starting with Five Years is a great start. Love the strings in it. Moonage Daydream into Starman is one of the best 1-2 punches of all time. Moonage Daydream probably cracks best songs of all time for me. Strings toward the middle into the bomb ass solo at the end. *Chefs kiss* Listened to the second half frolicking in the snow on my way downtown. So damn good with such a solid end of Ziggy, Suffragette City, and imo one of Bowies most under appreciated songs in Rock n Roll Suicide. Had that song on so many burned cds back in the day. Thanks to Steve Zissou for that one. Loved this listen.
There is nothing wrong with this album in any way, just kinda boring to me as I feel a lot of singer/songwriter artists are to me. 2.5
The switch-up from Joan Baez to this is hilarious. Listened to this album so much growing up it'll probably be hard not to be biased. Really shows what Snoop can do even though I don't think he's come out with any album that comes close to this in terms of greatness. Definitely an album you should listen to the lyrics. Man is a brilliant story teller. Gin and Juice is a classic and sounds so much better listening like this instead of out in the world. Tha Shiznit has some bomb flow from Snoop. Definitely one of my favorites from this album. G's up Hoe's down. Lodi Dodi is a great story with great production. Murder Was the Case is probably my favorite song on here. Shit goes hard and is another example of hit story telling. Gz and Hustlas has some incredible production and beat. Honestly from Gin and Juice --> Pump Pump is full of straight up bangers. Shame that the start doesn't live up but gotta give a 5 with how solidly this mfer flows from front to back. Production on this album also hits so well. Has that deep fuzzy sound that is kinda brown-noiseish. But it adds to that gangsta sound.
Oh baby we have some heaters the past few days! Not gonna go too far in depth about this album cuz I’m sure we’ve all heard it tons of times. I know this album gets a lot of flack for its production but it doesn’t really bother me, because the worst song on this album (Porcelain) still sounds solid and is a good switch up from the loudness of the rest. I still like BSSM, BTW, and SA more than this but it's hard not to give it a 5 still. 4.5 and rounding up.
This was a tough listen for me. Luckily they have a steel pedal save most of the songs but this kinda country ain’t it for me.
This is strange af. Cemetery Polka sounds like it could be in Nightmare Before Christmas. Honestly a few songs sound like that. This album was a little bit goofy but I really liked random parts of it. His voice is the same where sometimes it works for me and others I’m just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wow what a god anwful album cover. Hellen Keller could make a better cover than this. But ooo another Nigel produced album excited for that. Really loving the atmospheric sound to this album. Hard to nail down a specific genre which I love. Currently floating to Wonderful. That switch up in Space Beatle is pretty toight. Simple reminds me a ton of Elbow in a good way. This is a pretty solid 4 from me. Want to deduct for the cover but 4 it is.
Dreams is an absolute bop of a song. Probably the most over played Mac song but it still hits and is so breezy. It’s a song I’m almost always in the mood to hear. Never Going Back Again is a great easy tune. Don’t Stop and Go Your Own Way are admittedly good song, but something rubs me wrong about them for some reason. Songbird is relatively new one for me, but hearing Yim Yames incorporate it into Phone Went West at Bonnaroo made me ascend. His version is 100000x better than this fight me. The Chain is also one that I can listen to most of the time. While I’ve never been too particular about Fleetwood Mac this got the advantage of me listening to this on a beautiful day walking outside. Also the fact they created all these jams while coked tf out and everyone banging each other is impressive in itself.
This was an interesting one. Hearing a decent amount of Vampire Weekend and Grizzly Bear. That classic 00's indie sound. This went in all different directions musically. Had it on in the background and it kept me pretty damn engaged. Useful Chamber was a standout to me. If I heard Remade Horizon in the wild I would've guessed it was Animal Collective.
Some British ass sounding alt punk. Not really my jam but I’ve been surprised before. Last Post on the Bugle sounds like old Arctic Monkeys but much worse. The last minute of the Ha Ha Wall was pretty great. Arctic Monkeys but worse. Soft ass 3
Well this is a beautiful album of covers so far. The guitar work on some songs is pretty great - definitely uplifts an already pleasant song. Started to lose momentum after while but still a great listen.
Another classic. Smells Like Teen Spirit is their most overplayed song and for good reason. Just a fun song. I have played In Bloom about a 100 times on Rock Band since you need to beat it to move on to a ton of songs. Such a great singalong. Forgot how chock filled of jams this album has. Come As You Are was an anthem for me as a wee lad. The drums and fuzzy bass leading into Breed hype me up so much. Lithium is another that I grew up obsessing over. The back and forth between chill bassline and heavy everything is sick. Polly is a sad one but shows what they can do minimally and foreshadowing into how to arrange some of these songs acoustically like in the MTV Unplugged album. Territorial Pissing is the definition of angsty music and I'm here for it. Was running around the house for the rest of these but this album is critically and commercially huge and rightfully so. The only song that I don't love on it is Endless, Nameless, but I get not ending this album with a somber and "quiet" song and it fits. Honestly everyone kills it on this record. Dave on da drums, Krist slappin da bass, and of course Kurt rockin on the guitar with his hoarse voice that fits the music perfectly.
Another one not on Apple Music booooo. Loved the first Dusty album so interested to see what came before it. This album is great for what it is. Pretty little ditty's that aren't necessarily up my alley but sound great and she has a beautiful voice. Really loved Wishin' and Hopin'. Still hard to imagine that voice comes out of her but that's the impressiveness of it I guess.
Nick Cave has such a calming voice, but I'm a fan of some melancholy shit and this is just a biiiiiit too much for me. Some real beautiful stuff in here though. Green Eyes is weird and took a double take when he said "cunt." Pretty middling 3 for me and liked the last album we listened to by him more.
I don't know if I've ever heard "Let's Get It On" outside of a commercial. Pretty great funky instrumental guitar that pairs well with his voice. Keep Gettin It On sounds like a sister song to Let's Get It on. This is just a pleasant album with a lot of soul and some undercover funk. 10/10 would bang to this album.
For some reason I can't get all the songs through Apple Music, but I think I've heard enough to give it what I think. Love this dudes voice. Some of the instrumentals get very repetitive but also helps to be able to listen to what they're trying to say, which I would argue is more important in the context of this album. Soft 3
This album is super raw and released just post Beatles so there's definitely some anger in here which is pretty damn apparent. Mother, Working Class Hero, Isolation, Remember (love the abrupt ending), Love, God, and I'll even throw Well Well Well (5/5 for aggressiveness, also used perfectly in The Departed) are all incredible songs. The finger picking in Look At Me is very reminiscent of Dear Prudence. Like the other solo Beatle albums we've gotten, this one has so many jams on it. I've been going back and forth between a 4 or 5 and going to bump it up. It might be my favorite of the solo Beatle albums (between this and Ram) and I really do appreciate his raw and manic sounding songs.
Pumped for this it’s been awhile since I’ve listened to them, and it’s only been a few songs but I do really love the atmospheric art rock sound. Didn’t realize how absolutely Icelandic these guys are. Dadi is probably a big fan. Starálfur is one I’ve definitely heard before. Beautiful track. Love the upright guitar used as a cello on some songs. Radiohead uses that on a few tracks and it’s such a cool sound. Almost all of these songs are super dreamy especially with the orchestration and angelic Icelandic voices. It runs longer than I’d like some albums to be but could see myself loving to take a long walk to this in the future.
Something about this album really turns me off. I think it's that type of 80's sound that I hate. I also might be the only person in the world who doesn't really like Tina Turner's voice. Sounds like she's crying the whole time. Does get some emotion behind it at least. Bunch of covers makes me want to listen to the originals. High 2
This album is all over the place. Not a terrible thing just a little strange. Butterfly McQueen is legit and loved the transition into Rodney King. Didn't keep track to a T too much as I was running and doing housework. I definitely heard a range from Beatles, to Flaming Lips, to Animal Collective, to Oasis. Sometimes it was really interesting others not so much. Either way it kept me pretty damn engaged for the whole album. Looking forward to giving this another listen.
Can’t Get Enough sounds like Some Kinda Wonderful. Not a bad thing just similar. Was really about to shit on Don’t Let Me Down until that solo came in. Rest of the song is still meh. The song we’ve all been waiting for - Bad Company is a jam no matter how you look at it. There were some standout moments on this album but not enough to make me return save a couple songs. Was hoping for more.
Oh fuck yes I'm going IN for this one. Type in “biggest left turn in music history” on Google and this will show up. Being insanely popular from releasing OK Computer and then going straight into experimental electronic was certainly a move, and thank god they did it. I don’t expect everyone here to appreciate this to that level, but I honestly think this album changed the trajectory of my music listening and gave me a new appreciation for electronic music in general. The start of Everything still gives me goosebumps sometimes. Such a strange song with some wild looping on the vocals. Kid A definitely took some time for me to appreciate. Don't think I liked the effects on the vocals initially but it really is a pretty song and love how it picks up. Especially when those drums come in. The National Anthem I think is the song that made me fall in love with Radiohead. That bassline that delves into the organized chaos jacks me up every time. Plus I love the juxtaposition going into How to Disappear. Strings are hauntingly beautiful on this one. Love the dissonance towards the end when it all comes together. Brilliant. Treefingers is a weird ambient one that just fits with the album. Would never listen to this one on its own. Kinda like an interlude. Optimistic is probably the most accessible song on here. Love the climax at the end. I would love to take acid to In Limbo. Idioteque is fuckin bonkers. Seeing it live was one of the most intense experiences of my life and I loved every second of it. I once read it was the "dance song from hell" and I think that fits pretty well. Transition from Idioteque into Morning Bell shows the brilliance of the production here. There is always a discussion between this version and the one on the next album (sister albums) and this one is superior imo. Round and round and round and round and roooouuuunnndddddd. Gets into that chaotic dissonant sound again towards the end. Allie would hate this album so much. Beautiful end with Motion Picture Soundtrack and all the strings. Ties up the album perfectly for me. Easiest 5/5 so far for me.
Oh boy I am one song in and will not like 2 hours of this. The 3rd song is cool cuz it has no vocals straight finger pickin banjo. Nothing constitutes making this album 2 hours long. I feel like I should be out in the fields with a piece of strawgrass in my mouth to really appreciate it. While I am not and it's taken me 3 days to listen to this I'm between a 1 and 2. Going 2 because I can at least appreciate some of the elements of the bluegrass/folk and the raw construction of it.
I sometimes love and sometimes hate her voice. Reminds me a bit of Courtney Barnett but the music isn’t as interesting. I should’ve known I wouldn’t like this as soon as I saw that fraud Steve Earle’s name was on this. Kinda reminds me of 90s mom rock. Not for me.
While this is not my favorite Beatles album by any stretch, it is pretty damn good for what it is and the time it came out. Has a bunch of catchy tunes that show off their songwriting, particularly It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, Hold Me Tight. It also has Little Child which is weird. Bunch of great covers as well. This is probably a 3.5 for me but rounding up because I'm biased as hell.
Honestly a baller listen. Listened in the car but had to go back and listen again on headphones to see what I missed. So much going on in these songs. The first song Djed felt like it was 3 or 4 songs wrapped in 1. A Survey gives off some Pink Floyd vibes I dig it. Djed is the standout but also really loved The Taut and Tame. The drums kicked ass on it. The last song could be in a Tarantino movie right before some shit goes down. This is an extremely high 4 for me, close to a 5.
Was really digging this when I first put it on, but that faded pretty quickly. Just turned into some 80's sounding background music with a mediocre voice. Some of it was pretty interesting sounding though so I'll go a low 3.
This was a pretty theatrical sound that Arcade Fire brought! Another example of loving this because I had tried to get into Arcade Fire for years and never could, but this has really helped. Highly enjoyed this. Ocean of Noise was great and My Body is a Cage was a fantastic closer.
Only know Low Rider by War, and I like that song so needless to say I'm pumped for some psychedelic soul, jazz, and progressive soul (thanks wiki). This is a fun listen! I'm in City, Country, City and it's a whirlwind. Reminds me of some old skool Santana. Four Cornered Room would be sick on psychedelics - honestly this entire album would be a vibe. High 4
RIP Was about to walk down rub a dub square when I heard I Am Stretched On Your Grave! Fun to hear that. Black Boys on Mopeds randomly reminds me of Bo Burnham. I think it’s That Funny Feeling. Must just be similar chords or something. Nothing Compares 2 U is probably her most famous song and a pretty good one at that. Overall I don’t have much love for these songs. Most have a lame 80s sound and are emotionally draining but I can certainly recognize the power behind some of these. High 2.
Hmm I feel like I've heard of them but not sure I know any songs. Whoops definitely know the first song, never would've been able to tell you who sang that though. This will be good for trivia a random night in the future. Honestly some good sound punk for me. Some real good basslines all over the place. The xylophones in Gone Daddy Gone/ I Just Want to Make Love to You are sick. Also have heard Good Feeling in How I Met Your Mother (Lily and Marshall's song). Pretty chill. Not the best punk I've heard but far from the worst.
Not really my kinda music but had some bright spots. Wont come back to anything on here though. Going with a high 2.
Realized this was on shuffle over halfway through :( I got the gist of it enough though so just let it roll. Pleasant album, even though it incorporated some of my least favorite 80's sounding country. Enjoyed it even for that which really means something! Solid 3.
Yup definitely Tom Waits with this cigarette stricken voice. Always reminds me of Dr. Joe for some reason. Just like the previous 2 Tom Waits albums there were some things I really, really loved. In The Colosseum reminds me of The Wall at some points. Unfortunately there were things that I was confused why he would include. I think I liked this one the best out of the 3, but I still can't warrant a 4 for it. Overall happy I'm listening to these though as I had no knowledge of Tom Waits beforehand.
Banger of an album. Eminem is probably my favorite storyteller of all time. Hard not to pay attention to his lyrics on this one. They range from unhinged and funny to downright scary. My least favorite song on here (minus the skits) is still solid. Easy 5.
This album is fucking weird two songs in. Not bad weird just show tuney with rock and lounge music involved. The third song is even more so with some scary undertones. Idk if I’ve ever heard anything like this. Literally sounds like parody but I don’t think it actually is. Some solid guitar work in the background. The lead singers voice reminds me of the singer from black midi except not as unhinged sounding. Found myself a bit entranced by some of these songs. I would probably give this album a 3.5 or possibly lower but something about it was so unique and enjoyable to me that I’m bumping up to 4.
Oh man I haven't listened to this in full since *flex incoming* I saw Elton John at Roo in 2014. It starts off with a monster song in Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding and is filled with jams throughout (Candle In the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Saturday Night). Hearing Bennie and the Jets brought me back to when I showed Ian that song on our way to Europe and he apparently sung it non-stop for the two weeks with my Mom and Robert. All the songs on here are great but some get lost on me through a long record. High 4 good job Elton!
Starts off with 3 of NWA’s classics. Gangsta rap at its finest. Parental Discretion rules. You can suck a wingdingdingaling! Thank you for that Eazy. This album has a bunch of classics and the others end up being consistent enough to warrant a 4 from me. Classic gangsta rap with insanely good production. Ice Cube rules.
Her voice reminds me of the chick from L’Imperatrice in some songs. Beautiful voice. Some really fun stuff happening in these songs. Really digging Happy Meal II. Lovefool is the first I recognize and it’s a BOP. Kinda No Doubt sounding. What a random Iron Man cover. Not mad about it I think they did a great job giving it a life of their own. Very pleasant. This was a surprising 4 I actually really dig it. Each song took on a life of its own and the vocals fit so damn well with the music.
This first song is a trip with the melodica/crickets/birds. Also has a great transition into Grass. Some pretty wild looping on The Meeting Place. Fun song! Super, Super Girl is a tricky one for me. Really love parts of it but then it feels cheesy af at others. Season Cycle is apparently influenced by the Beach Boys and you can hear it. One thing that really sticks out after the first side is the production. It sounds incredible and deserves a listen on headphones. I loved this album and was bouncing along the whole time. Debated giving this album a 5 but going to go with an extremely high 4 cuz it fell off in some songs. Downloaded the album though and will be back.
This was an awesome listen while grocery shopping. I’ve never really listened to these guys thinking psychedelia but I heard a bunch in this. Extremely pleasant with their harmonies as well I don’t think there’s anyone better maybe save Lennon/McCartney. Can’t wait to give this one a listen again. High af 4
This must've been pretty impressive at the time it came out. Scorpio reminds me of some Kraftwerk that we've listened to on here which I did not expect at all. Personally I'd be pretty pissed if I was Stevie Wonder. That shit sucked. The Message is an epic on that has lived on through the decades since its release. You still here samples from it in songs to this day. Overall its a solid listen but nothing that bends my ear too much. Solid 3. Review for In The Wee Small Hours: Classic Frank. I was between a 3 or 4 here but I guess it was predetermined for me.
I know I'm in the minority with this one, but this is my favorite Talking Heads album. Has that fast artsy punk but also is the beginning of the tight production that Remain in Light does so well. Warning Sign is probably my most played song by these guys I can jam to that bassline anytime. Found a Job has the best outro of any Talking Heads song I know. Would be insane to see/hear that live. Goes into Artists Only which starts out spooky. The cover of Take Me To The River absolutely vibes. Highly recommend watching the SNL version of it David Byrne is so weird. Love it
This is a perfect album for a rainy day. Listened to it while doing laundry and dishes. The quiet talking in the background got me a bunch of times. Kept thinking Wyatt was behind me trying to have a convo. Heavy pro for noise canceling headphones on that one. I don't have many notes other than the piano killed it throughout. Would love to listen to this eating at a fancy steakhouse. Solid af 4.
Listened to some Monk but not this one. Another one I’m happy I listened to on a gloomy day. Just really pleasant on the ears. This one’s a little “louder” than the last with some sax spiraling away on it. All about it easy 4.
Really digging this first song. Pretty sick guitar work at the end there. There's a lot of interesting stuff in here but it gets a bit too noise-rockish at some points, especially "Don't." I think the voice throws me off some of these songs. Unfortunate because I love most of the instrumentals. Works sometimes though giving it a solid grunge sound.
Ooo some nice psychedelic opening sounds. Me likey. Was really hoping for more after that. Had some pretty nice moments. Whatever instrument was used in Sold to the Highest Bidder was pretty cool. The Toonerville Trolley is making me want to smash my computer to pieces though. Low 3
This was the very first album I ranked on this site! Brings a tear to my eye. I wrote 1 sentence for it before but I'll go a little bit more in depth here. This album has some serious jams in Tomorrow Comes Today (might be my favorite use of melodica ever), Clint Eastwood, Rock the House, and 19-2000, and M1 A1 is such a great closer. They started with M1A1 when I saw them gave me goosebumps here. Some of the other songs just do not do it for me. This album doesn't hold a candle to Plastic Beach or Demon Days, but I do love the eclecticness of the album. High af 3
Man for a song I've heard a ton of times over the years Hello really gave me goosebumps this morning. Actually listening to it really helps with a song like that. The rest of the album is beautiful. Not usually my thang but it was very pleasant. Soft 4
This albums awesome. Starts off so damn hype and mellows out. Sabotage is the only “hit” that I really know well, but it was so eclectic and funky/jazzy too. Get It Together with Q Tip was sick. So much bass too. Was looking around for Angus during Shambala. This flirted with a 5 for me. Really fucking loved it.
Automatically makes me think of those kids in middle school and high school "iTs NoT cAlLeD tEeNaGe WaStLaNd" because god forbid I was a pirate. Love the song though top tier Who. Bargain also rules. Bunch of the middle songs are good but are a bit too whooo-ish for me. Never have been the biggest fan outside of the hits. But ending with Behind Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again is fuckin baller. Middle songs did enough for me to warrant a 4.
I only know the song Pepper and I love that song so I’m excited for this. Sweat Loaf starts off absolutely unhinged. This song is insane but in a good way. Graveyard is also unhinged in a less pleasant way. Noise! That Pittsburgh to Lebanon song sounded like Tom Waits. Feel like I’m hearing him everywhere and not a fan. This is spiraling out of control very quickly I don’t like it. I was excited after the first song and everything went downhill. This is just barely a 2.
The instrumentals on this are pretty solid even though some songs are a bit repetitive. The voice isn’t my fav but works in some songs. Parts became catchy (hooks?) and got me in the long run. Going for a low 3 here.
Ah the debut of McCartney. Reading about this album he definitely seemed like an asshole but was also going through some depression it seems. This album has so much potential but seems like Paul just wanted to get it out before any other Beatles solo albums. Pretty gay to have your first song that after the whole ordeal but whatever. Every Night is a jam and Parcels has an awesome cover of it. A lot of nice instrumental jams on this one but again seems a bit rushed. That is until Maybe I'm Amazed which is one of the greatest love songs of all time. I put it on so many of my playlists cuz it scratches so many itches.
Highway Star is awesome. I feel like this was in Guitar Hero or Rock Band and loved it. Rings true today. Second song ends on a heater. Smoke on the Water is the classic here and it sounds great. Holy hell that drum solo in The Mule was sick. I learned a whole new language during it. The beginning of Space Truckin reminds me of the Doors. The end of Space Truckin reminds me of a spaceship.
One thing I’ve learned about my music tastes from this is that prog rock fuckin rules. Songs are so much fun and you never know what direction it’s going in. Fun listen.
Just reading Brandon's review about Dad Rock and this certainly falls in that category. Real good easy listening rock music. It gets a little too low key at some points but what a debut this is. Sultans of Swing are a banger of a song and I love the closeout with Lions.
This album is classic Zeppelin. It gets weird, soft, hard, messy, and fun. I listened while blasting in the car so not many notes but a classic nonetheless. What Is and What Should Never Be is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs of all time.
Funny, Jeff Lynne just announced yesterday that ELO is doing a farewell tour and I almost put this album on. Turn To Stone, Mr. Blue Sky, Sweet Talkin Woman. All jams. This is such a fun album with their harmonies and fun sounds. I know people call them the Beatles of the 70's. Not sure how entirely I agree with that but they're a fun band overall even though some of the songs tend to sound similar and it's a bit long for my taste. But holy shit The Whale is sick. Felt like I was on the moon. Instantly adding to my tripping playlists. We’re on an insane dad rock run and I’m about it.
I'm 2 songs in and what in the cinnamon toast fuck am I listening to??? Did not expect some punky ska from the 80's. Not my favorite but again love this whole thing for showing me some kinda genre bending music I would never even know. As it goes on I tend to like the instrumentals and don't really like the weird vocals. Parts of it remind me of the worst parts of Zappa. Instrumentals don't even carry this one to a 3. High 2.
A fun listen but nothing crazy note worthy. Classic rock n soul. Middle of the road 3. But holy shit I just read this dudes wiki - my man was a sex machine! He had 21 kids and a whopping 90 grandchildren! Imagine the family get togethers!
I've listened to this once before (primarily to listen to the Thom tracks) and remember liking it but not thinking anything crazy. This was also like 10 years ago so we'll see how I like it now! Initially it reminds me of a darker Alanis Morrisette and I love some Jagged Little Pill! I've always associated PJ Harvey with some dark sounds but this is pretty fun. I see on wiki they compared Good Fortune to the Pretenders voice which is spot on. Really digging Beautiful Feeling and can hear Thom in there with his wails. Yes please. Bass on The Whores Hustle sets a sludgy tone I love it. The Mess Were In obvs features Thom and his and PJ's voices mesh very well imo and the running bassline goes well over the talking section especially when they collectively come together. Love that. Cool song. Her voice in Horses In My Dream reminds me of another artists voice and I can't put my finger on it. This was a hauntingly beautiful album and from everything I've read this is less depressing and sad than most of her earlier albums, so I'll be listening to those. Solid 4.
I've never been able to get fully into Rush, so what a perfect opportunity right now! Thanks 1001albumgenerator.com! The music is pretty solid (what up prog), but the one thing I feel like has always bothered me about Rush was Geddy Lee's voice. Just have never been able to get over it. It's ok in small samples for me but over a whole album it's a lot. The first song was by far the best part of the album to me. Started to falter after that a bit, but still solid. Going high 3 here and my inability to get into Rush continues.
What a weird album. The noises the guitar makes is a bit unsettling (in a good way for me). On Some Faraway Beach is magical. Also Bob Seger totally stole that sound. Couldn't put my finger on it at first. This album is wild. Brian Eno is a madman. I hear Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Talking Heads all rolled up into one on this. I was close to giving this a 5 but couldn't pull the trigger. I'm definitely coming back to this though. I knew of Eno before this project but he has consistently been awesome.
I'm not as familiar with this album as other White Stripes, but excited nonetheless because Jack White fuckin rocks. Blue Orchid gets me hype every time. Such a great opener. Love the juxtaposition of the peaceful xylophone mixed in with the heaviness of the guitar and drums on the Nurse. I like My Doorbell but it gets so repetitive I'm ready for it to end when it does. Always rare to hear a Meg White lead vocal song. Take Take Take has one random part where the vocals go from left to right and back. Was pretty crazy I liked it. This album flows well and sounds great, but doesn't do so much as the other White Stripes albums we've had. High 3.
Man I for some reason just do not give a single shit about Bruce Springsteen's music, but we'll see if this changes my mind. Few songs in and it's pretty minimalist and telling stories. Not bad but nothing to write home about. Not great music to have on in the background. Pretty boring tbh. I can respect Springsteen but just can't get into him. Almost too Dad rock for me and I feel like I love Dad rock.
Idk why but this first song and the year it came out makes me think it should be on the Matrix soundtrack. This is some angsty late 90's rock right here. Hits for me sometimes others not so much. There were some songs close to the beginning that I was bopping my head along to, but this one probably won't get listened to again for me.
Listening to this one early af as my flight to Vegas is at 6:30 am. Side note: Brandon remember when we sat next to each other on the long term parking bus at BWI at like 5 am? Shit was wild. Starts a little faster than I expected but then delves into more of what I was expecting with Swret Little Angel. Then a smooth af transition into Its My Own Fault. Loved when he was talking about what a sad guy was going to say and then went straight into a bluesy solo. Pretty solid album for walking through the airport. Lots of it reminded me of Stormy Monday. Easy listening.
Congrats to all your spotify users that you can now listen to this! My My Hey Hey is a great song. But holy hell that Into The Black version at the end is duuuurty af. Love it. Had the rest on in the background but found myself nodding along and tapping my feet for almost all of it. Never was the biggest Neil Young fan but this has kinda changed me tune on that.
Well this is about to be insane. If every song was like Wait and Bleed this would probably be a 4 but its not. Drums are sick though.
Ugh why is this so long. This Lil Kim song is peak early 2000's Pop/R&B. Honestly just expecting a bunch of this the whole album. Not really for me but whatever. She really does have a great voice and it shows on a lot of songs especially Walk Away. I actually know Fighter. Just some throwaways songs imo until we get to Beautiful which is, you guessed it - beautiful. As soon as the next song started I just wanted to fast forward to the song with Redman. Hell yeah i have heard this one and it rules. Pretty much only liked those 3 main songs and the rest I was waiting for it to end. Sorry Xtina way too long.
I legit think this is my favorite album of all time. Easiest 5 of my life. The production and fact that all members have some of the best songs in their catalogue, plus the medley on the back half is insane. Starts off with two absolute bangers in Come Together and Something. One is probably the first song off a classic rock playlist and the other is one of the best love ballads of all time. Even the worst song on this album (Maxwell's Silver Hammer) is fire and such a fun song. Pretty sure it's most of the Beatles least favorite songs. Oh Darling I find to be underrated when people talk about Beatles songs, and Paul's voice shines throughout. Octopus's Garden I put in the same realm as Maxwell but the guitar work in it is so great. Def gets overshadowed by the funky lyrics. I Want You is one of the heaviest Beatles songs and I love it. Love the ending with the white noisy fadeout. The second half of this album always blew my mind as a child. Starts with one of the most beautiful songs ever with George absolutely shining here. Then this fucking medley. I remember driving to school with my Mom and me trying to guess when a song would end and another begins. As a kid I was amazed as an adult it's even cooler listening to the transitions. Masterclass from all of them there. The back and forth on The End is incredible top Beatles moment.
Some nice loops at the beginning reminiscent of the Beatles. Had some work I was doing so this was in the background, but I'm on Nowhere and this is some fuzzy ass shoegaze. Really down with this. Unfortunately there was just too much in there that didn't really grab me. Might come back to this because I can really fuck with some shoegaze it just feels hit or miss to me.
Hell yeah. Pretty sure I only know Right Here, Right Now, the Rockafeller Skank, and Praise You, but they all fuck. Must've been insanely awesome to hear in 98. Just missing Weapon of Choice, which has one of the best music videos of all time. FATBOY SLIM IS FUCKING IN HEAVEN. Kalifornia, Love Island, and Acid 8000 were some new standouts to me. Could def take some ecstasy to these songs at a warehouse in the late 90's.
Pretty recent one! Had this on in the background while working and it was insanely good morning music. I downloaded it to my phone and excited to listen again. His voice is so smooth and the whole album had a lot of feeling behind it. Will definitely be back especially during some nice summer days. High 4
Fuck yeah WU. Probably the best "solo" Wu album of all time. RZA continues his insane production style and love the martial arts samples. Like most Wu albums, this one flows so damn well with incredible beats and great appearances from all members coming in and out. The front half I gotta say I loved more than the back. Still was great just nothing incredible. Just gets me amped for whenever we get 36 Chambers - and we better be getting it. High 4
Oof this is a long one. Apparently they went into it with the Beatles White album as inspiration and says it is "The Wall for Gen X." That's a pretty high pedestal to put yourself on for a 2 hour album. The first half of the album def has some jams that I know and love but never necessarily seek out. All in all pretty solid just wondering if they can keep it up for another *checks watchless wrist* hour and a half. Cupid de Locke is a random pretty one that's in a different vein than most other Smashing Pumpkins I know. Really beautiful sections of Porcelina. Was worried looking at the 9 minutes but that was highly enjoyable. Nothing sticking out too much on the back half so far, but obviously know 1979 which is good enough. Tales of a Scorched Earth is probably my least fav song so fav. Don't really like the mixing of it something sounds off. Then goes into a song Thru the Eyes of Ruby which I'm enjoying. This album took awhile to get through and that's probably why I find it a bit disjointed. Way too long to be as enjoyable as it could be. Middling 3.
Holy 80's! This isn't bad in any way but it is absolutely not for me. For some reason it reminded me of the mall when I was a kid. I'm glad Frankie had the affair.
Do It Again is a classic that you still hear at cookouts and bars on the reg and I'm not mad about it. Dirty work is also a great singalong. Get some classic sounding Steely Dan songs and then we get to Reelin in the Years which is a bonafide jam. Steely Dan is one of those bands that has some really good jams that I know and love. Some songs don't hit as hard for me but it's all enjoyable nonetheless and will be pleased if someone put them on while hanging out.
Already trending towards a 2 based on the first few songs. Not my favorite type of punk especially at 9 am. I need to mainline coffee for this. Not my jam.
Cool in the Pool is an awesome name and I love the beginning of this. Lots of sounds happening, but it works for me. This is some experimental shit. Guitar works and synth on Oh Lord, Give Us More Money is some good stuff for me ears. Random cat meow in there. These guitars are wigglin'! The beginning of Hollywood Symphony reminds me of some Pink Floyd mixed with Blues for Allah Grateful Dead. Good stuff. Damn reading more about this guy I didn't realize he was in Can. This was a surprisingly awesome album. I don't know if I'm pushing it into the 5 territory but it's certainly a high ass 4.
I know a couple Chicago songs but pumped to delve deeper into their catalogue. Introduction is a great introduction for this album with some serious sax work going on. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? is such a classic and builds up so well into that trumpet. Beautiful song. Questions 67 and 68 is a jam and has some background shredding throughout. Really loving the horns on this one. So upbeat. Slowdown in Poem 58 is sick leading into the guitar solo. Apparently Free Form Guitar was an influence on the noise rock genre. Makes sense. I can appreciate it in small doses, very Hendrix-esque. Also love that it takes you to acid-town and then back to Earth with a normal next song. Random Beatle lyrics in South California Purples? Feel like I've heard I'm a Man in a couple things, but not necessarily Chicago. Faded into the background a bit towards the end but still loving the horns. Little too long but damn I always thought Chicago was way more soft. High 4. Also reading about one of the founders Terry Kath, who Jimi Hendrix once called the greatest guitarist in the universe. He was playing with a gun with his friends and his last words were "What do you think I'm gonna do? Blow my brains out?" and did just that, accidentally. Sad.
Hell yeah best flow in the game. Not gonna leave a long review just gotta say this album is chock full o classics. Easy ass 5. One of the best hip hop albums out there. Obligatory fuck Puff. Shoutout to Method Man for being the only feature on it. The What fuckin rules.
Would've thought this was Rick Rubin's first production credit and not even close. This dude has been around forever. Opening riff reminds me of that AC/DC song. The Born to Be Wild isn't as good as the original but still solid. Just doesn't flow as well. Pretty solid hard rock album. Nothing crazy but just reminded me of some AC/DC throughout.
Great album front loaded with jams. It starts to tail off at the end for me. Still good but in no way stacks up to the front half. High af 4
I've had this on in the background while working and it's pleasant enough. Not sure if I needed over an hour of the yelling but the instrumentals were great. I especially liked the percussion on some of the songs towards the end. Middling 3.
Trip-hop is probably the most underrated genre of all time. Getting me excited for some Portishead that better be on here. There are some real solid beats on here and love the flow of it all. Went on a bit longer than I would've liked but still overall good stuff.
Some pretty run of the mill country music to me. Infinitely better than todays country but still not 100% my jam. My ears did perk up at El Paso as I know that as a Grateful Dead song. Weird that the "full length" version is like 20 seconds longer but whatever pop off Marty.
Vocal Jazz is a good name for the genre cuz this guy is yellin'. This would be a ton of fun to see live I feel like in the right environment. Also cool he recorded this with his wife. Oh shit I definitely know Jump, Jive an' Wail, this shit slaps I am snapping my fingies. Also have definitely heard Buona Sera. 10/10 would eat spaghet to this. This was a randomly fun album, I love the trumpet and this guy seems to have what the kids say "rizz"
Happy Bicycle Day! This is a great album for it, super trippy. Space Child put me in another universe and the transition into When I Touch You was great. I couldn’t really get into the rest of it but I was also working during it. My deserve a relisten
Oh man is this about to be sad af? Love needle in the hay by him but I'm not ready for sad music on a beautiful day like today. Really digging Alameda. Some of the guitar picking in it is top notch. The rest is kinda background as I was working. Some beautiful stuff in here no doubt but nothing that's crazy good to me.
Bob has bitch tits. Was hoping for more out of this but it ended up being a bit too "rockera" for me. Some songs just sounded like a worse Elton John.
Just went back and I did not like Scott 2. I just cannot take him super cereal with his voice but it's not bad. The Old Mans Back Again has some fantastic bass going on. There's actually some good bass on a lot of these songs definitely sticking out the most to me. And some really good orchestral parts as well. Feel like I liked this one a bit more than Scott 2 even though I still hate his stupid voice. Not going back to Scott 2 to find out either. Run of the mill 3.
This is some pretty solid easy listening. Will admit I had it on in the background while working so wasn't paying incredible attention, but some of these songs I found myself toe tapping to and really like the acoustic guitar work.
Oh man immediately expecting some 80's bullshit from the cover. I feel like I shouldn't like Karma Chameleon but I do. Just a fun song that probably helps that I'm familiar with it. Second song is alright as well, is my view on 80's sounding pop music actually changing?? The love for this was short lived with those two. Black Money sucks ass. Changing Every Day sucks ass. I refuse to listen to the bonus tracks on this. Hell yeah it's over. 2.
Love a good "mafioso rap" album. Like the random Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs sample there in Scooby Snacks. We Have All The Time In The World is a random switch up on genres there. This was ok. Feels like I was kinda into it at the beginning but it faded into the background pretty damn quick. Either a high 2 or low 3 I'm going to decide tomorrow when I can actually rate it.
Was cool to see El-P on track 5. This sounded pretty experimental and probably ahead of its time in 2000. Really digged some songs and their sound while I could forget others. I don't think I'll be back but lands in a solid 3.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaps
I feel like Green Onions is one of those songs everyone knows but doesn't know the name of. Great tune. This was right down my alley this morning I highly enjoyed all these songs and had some interesting cover versions of songs too. I feel like David Burt would like this album.
A rap opera... interesting. I don't like this halfway through the first song. Not my jam. This is interesting that it's a whole ass story with it, but I still don't really fuck with it. At some points I'm feeling like a 1, but it's honestly kinda interesting to me even if I don't really like it. Just for the story telling aspect of the whole album it may deserve a 2 but a low 2 at that. Just finished and fuck that wanker he's getting a 1 for being a little bitch and having terrible flow. The cheesy chorus's just confirm my 1 I tried hard to give it a 2 and just can't.
Ayy this guy is from Silver Spring and was in the band SMOG. This dude sounds like a way better Tom Waits. Can't remember if it was Too Many Birds or My Friend but that shit rocked. Going with a low 4 here but honestly going to come back for another listen today.
This album has a bunch of jams between Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Some Might Say, Morning Glory, and of course Champagne Supernova. I'm admittedly not a huge Oasis fan but I can't deny their greatest on this album. I also really love Hey Now! I've realized. Some Might Say kinda sounds lazily put together production wise. Idk I usually like some more raw sounds but it hit me wrong. Cast No Shadow is pretty boring but I love that background guitar. Forgot just how much I love Morning Glory. Song fucks. Not much to be said about Champagne Supernova. If you don't like it I feel bad for your ears. Really a shame just how much the Gallagher bros are insufferable pricks.
Changes is such a jam of a song. Soooo easy to get into. Life on Mars? is also such a jam. I knew those songs pretty well going in but not a whole lot of others. Very different vibes overall from some of the other Bowie albums we've listened to which tracks (and I love). Andy Warhol's intro was a bit loopy I dig it. Also apparently there is a riff in Master of Puppets that paid homage to this song. Went back and listened and it's clear as day. Queen Bitch rules also I know that's a popular one. All in all an above average album with a few serious jams on it. Knocking a star because it doesn't live up to other Bowie I've heard which is probably unfair but it's my rating so suck it.
Really great music for a beautiful Friday morning. So Nice I feel like I've heard before and I'm really liking whatever background instrument is on Lonely. Bananiera reminds me of some Thievery Corporation which is toight.
This album is an all timer for me. Last time I saw them they played it front to back it was pure bliss. Tbh my favorite songs off it aren’t even the singles or popular ones. Magicians, hypnotist, and ego is one of the best 3 song runs of all time. Iconic opening song. Yoshimi. Yelling. 5:05 of magicians is one of my favorite random fills in a song. One of the main dudes always switches from guitar/keys to the drums just for Are You a Hypnotist and it seems like so much fun to play. My go to for drum songs.
This dude was on some Arctic Monkey songs! Honestly the Arctic Monkeys are turning into him based on this album a la The Car and Tranquility Base Hotel. He was also a guest vocalist on that Elbow album I loved. Such a soothing voice. Really was digging most until Wading Through the Waters kinda threw me for a loop as everything seemed so crisp before that. This was a strong 4 the whole way until the end there, which I debated knocking down to a 3, but the spaciness of the last track reminded me of some Radiohead so low 4 it is.
Some solid guitar work on these songs and then Morning Dew hit. I appreciate it, but it doesn't compare to the Dead's powerful, haunting version of it. Wild, I figured You Shook Me was a cover but didn't realize this version came out before Zeppelins. Greensleeves makes me feel like I'm in the Canterbury Tales. This on some levels feels like Led Zeppelin lite. Not bad in any way, but just not great either. The guitar does slay though. High 3
Just from the first couple minutes I already like this punk rock more than most. I think it's the keys (shoutout Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads). After a whole listen this is def some better punk than I expected. Really loved the instrumentals, and sometimes his voice fit perfectly with the music, other times not so much -as is punk.
What a great start to a song and album with the Reflection. This one deserves headphones. Super eerie. I have this on in the background at work and I'm impressed with the production of it considering it was recorded and mixed in seven days. Love the ambient gothic-ness of it. And this was all before The Forest which is an incredible song. Another band that this generator has helped me realize I really like. Also realized I really like gothic sounding music. High 4
This dude british af. This is also spacey af. I honestly can't really tell you if I liked this or not. It was an interesting listen and seemed pretty loose psychedelic wise. Reminded me of some earlier Pink Floyd a bit at some parts. Overall weird low 3. Also read that \"Wyatting\" is a thing where people put on obscure songs on the jukebox at bars. This is awesome and reminds me of putting 20 min Gizz songs on at Stan's.
A lot of these songs should be over montages of whatever tropical island is playing in a movie. Usually I can appreciate these kinda albums but it does get awfully repetitive in a not great way for me. Love the sax though. Low 3.
Solid Cash. Playing at the prisons is such a randomly cool thing. Love A Boy Names Sue. I'll never understand playing 2 songs back to back though. I've hated when I've seen it live and I hate it here. Also the censors are a bit jarring. High 3.
This is perfect rainy morning music. I gotta say I REALLY like her voice. Not usually my style but there's something about it. Feel like I can hear some Grace Slick in there. Also she's the chick from Battle of Evermore! Some real great backing instrumentals to go along with a beautiful voice. Usually not the biggest folk guy but would 10/10 listen to this on my walk to Mordor.
Listened to a bunch of Buddy Holly growing up as my Stepdad loves him. Oh Boy is an excellent song to start with. My Mom has that as one of her ringtones so it gets annoying but the song as a whole is a jelly. Also I figured the Dead didn't write Not Fade Away but what a staple of their live shows for that one. Maybe Baby was always a fav of mine. I feel like I can hear the influence of this song on others. That'll Be The Day is probably his most popular song and still rocks almost 60 years later. I have sort of a nostalgia for this stuff, but it's also clear that Buddy Holly was extremely influential on rock music as we know it. When he died in a plane crash that was what was referenced as we know "The Day the Music Died." Shows his influence right there. High 4.
Adele is always one I never seek out but I've heard a ton and can dig her voice. Did not expect a Cure cover on here. + points because apparently like Brandon, I'm a fan. Had this on while working but damn she has some pipes. So much emotion in that voice it almost gets exhausting listening to a whole album. The classics I knew sounded even better with headphones and the unknowns were a pleasant joy. Set Fire to the Rain was my favorite.
This album cover is hilarious wtf. A few songs in and this dudes voice is familiar. They had to be in one of the Tony Hawk games. Love the rendition of Under The Boardwalk. I was gonna make a joke about them naming a song after Tim or Allie and then realized it’s me! Thanks Undertones! No thanks to Tim or Allie for not writing a song about me.
The amount of genres for this is overwhelming but I'm excited to listen. I'm immediately let down by the 80's cheez pop sound that I hate. The only redeeming quality a few songs in is some of the sounds they are able to make, I just hate them together. Looks like one dude used 10 different keyboards on this album. Fuck this. Future Kev do not listen to this. You DID NOT need to hear this before you die.
Great Monday morning listen. Very chill. Definitely flew by
The sounds are sounding on this one. Really enjoyed Think I’m In Love. The looping is fantastic. Definitely getting Spacemen 3 vibes from this. Love the dissonant impending doom sounds on Home of the Brave. If this is noise rock it’s good ass noise rock. Such a jarring juxtaposition of background sounds to the voice and guitar. Listened to this one while hiking Waterworks on a beautiful day and that may give it a bump, but I was vibing out so hard to it the whole time. Gave me all the feels. I’m wondering if I’ve listened to it before because certain parts feel so familiar, especially the main riff in Cop Shoot Cop. I want to listen to this on acid.
Never been the biggest Coldplay fan, but I can get into their early stuff. Really enjoy this and their next album a lot even if this one starts to mesh together at certain points. Just pleasant music just not a lot of depth to it and not something I seek out on the daily.
This album cover pisses me off for some reason. The best laser tag I've ever played was at Shadowland and that was 10000x better than this album. Not my kinda thing but had some moments. Low 2
Enjoyed the different take on Neil Young to start us off. Some middling music for me until Stoned to Say the Least which brought this back up for me. What a trip of a song. Nothing Can Stop Us is such a fun song! That flute tho… Had some highs I loved and lows I hated. Middling 3.
This is some trippy synth sounds! I do really like that one effect they use with it that sounds like the end of Fly Like an Eagle. 2 has a One of These Days bassline. This started off well for me but just kinda became a soundscape while I was working. Still pleasant. High 3.
This album started off super glam-rocky, which was alright. We leaning more towards a low 3 after the first couple songs. A few songs in it turned into something completely different but sounded like if Elton John was more guitar heavy. Really got into it in the back half. Last song was great with the delayed effects. Low 4.
This just isn't for me but I could see people getting it on to it in the 90's. The best part was Cruisin' which was a cover. Not terrible and had some fun background sounds but overall meh.
This is duuuurty. The fuzz is real. Big muffs all over the place. In reality I really do love the sounds coming out of this one. That fuzzy bass is one of my favorites. The singing could definitely be better and I'm extremely confused by the track list. Original was only 22 minutes? Idk I listened to enough to declare a 3.
This is definitely not my kinda music. Feel like I can enjoy the hits but barely, and even at that I would need to be on one to really love it. This type of yelling lyrics music just makes me think of the movie Rock Star. Every song kinda sounds the same. Going high 2 because some guitar licks are lickin.
Hell yeah Cult of Personality rules. The amount of times I've played this on Guitar Hero... This album was all over the place. Funny Vibe was certainly a song to put on this album. Honestly reminds me of some older RHCP. Not convinced this is the same band from Cult of Personality by the end. Middling 3.
Such dark lyrics a quite the story. Never really went into any crazy highs or lows for me. Solid 3. Really love his voice though throughout with the instrumentals and I feel like on a different day I could get more into this.
Definitely found myself toe tapping a bit to this. Ray Charles voice is so velvety smooth he makes every song sound like a Christmas carol. Little on the slower side for my liking especially after lunch but great nonetheless.
Immediately got scared seeing synth-pop in the 80's but from this first song I'm getting Cure vibes and background noises are Thom Yorke-esque. Some strange songs on here I really like the weirdness and experimentation of it, especially title track. Some of the songs can get pretty silly sounding but not bad at all. Better than I expected low 4!
This was a pleasant listen on a late Monday morning. Guitar rocked on this one just solid jams.
Some of the vocals are annoying but work in that weird punk way. Really loving The Beast. Like most of the punk on here, I really liked some parts but thought others were meh. Certainly not the worst I've heard though. Solid 3.
Ah another Kraftwerk album. I gave the others both 4's so I'm excited for this. I've heard the title track already and love it. Great background music while working - gets a bit repetitive but it's fun.
ENO This is strange. I recognize something in this song but not sure where from. The middle of the first song reminds me of Willy Wonka the movie for some reason. The sound of someone you love who's going away and it doesn't matter is an insanely good song I loved that weird shit. Really loving the second half of this. This was a pretty solid 3 until the second half bumped it up. Highly enjoyable stuff. Never really know where it's gonna go which I appreciate.
Sacrifice is the first song I'm really liking on here. Something about the production is getting me. I absolutely LOVE the Seed. Was a favorite of mine growing up it just scratches some type of itch. Had to make sure I was listening to the same album during Water. This album was all over the place but really got really into it at different points. Production is on point for this one. High 3
Albarn sounds like Bowie to start this off. Really digging For Tomorrow. Never got too into Blur but dig all of his other projects. Turns right back into some britpop. I don't hate britpop but it definitely gets old pretty quick for me. Like some of the out there moments in Chemical World and end of Oily Water. Ending with Resigned is great too what a chill guitar back. This is a perfect 3.5 album for me. Raising to 4 cuz I really enjoyed the songs I liked.
This was alright not my kinda music but nothing offensive. Kinda want to go 2 here just because every song sounded the exact same. But I’m not because I’m a coward and it was ok
Feel like I'm at a 90's rave a few minutes in. This was excellent background music for working today. Don't think I would put it on just to hang and listen to, mostly only if I'm working or in a warehouse on ecstasy. High 3
I enjoyed Like a Prayer when we listened to it last year, this one is starting off way different. Definitely has that 90's electro sound to it. Did not expect this out of Madonna tbh. Really loving Ray of Light. Heard some great covers of this. Sky Fits Heaven is a banger. Had some great moments in the songs I mentioned but then hated songs like Little Star. High 3
This dude sings weird. It's really pissing me off a few songs in. Not digging the talking throughout every song. Who tf came up with that creative decision? Dexys Midnight Runners is not for me.
Listened to this the year it came out and remember having some jams. Especially Man. What a jam of a song. Few songs in and loving it Skepta has some serious flow and the beats are legit. Could shorten up some of these interludes but still invested. Some of the beats are dirty af so I get why they call it grime. I like it. Hearing some brown noise in It Ain't Safe. Man is just as baller as I remember.
I used to listen to JA all the time as a child so this review is ~probably~ biased. Somebody To Love and White Rabbit are the obvious standouts. Really fucked with Today, Come Back To Me, Embryonic Journey, and Plastic Fantastic Lover. Just some seriously good psychedelia. Highs were extremely high and lows were better than avg so going with a solid 4.
Some early Brit rock/pop. Had its moments but certainly not my cup of tea. Only song that stood out was There She Goes and that’s only because I’ve heard it before not because it’s good.
This makes me pumped for some Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie, which I assume are on here if they have a movie soundtrack by Air. Really digging the first song classic Air sound. A bunch of instrumentals to follow but most are honestly better than "soundtrack" music. Standouts to me are Bathroom Girl, The Word Hurricane, Dirty Trip, Ghost Song, Dead Bodies. Not the biggest fan of the talking on the last song, but the music behind it was awesome and I'm assuming it had to do with the movie? The drumming on this album was fantastic and a lot of cool sounds. Bummed I can't see them at the Anthem cuz I have to go to Jackson's stupid wedding. This one is a 4 juuuuuuust missing a 5
This is just some normal blues rock nothing spectacular. Not great not bad just aight.
I just can't take some of the lyrics seriously but can def get into some of the instrumentals. Rock Lobster is is so ridiculous it's good idk something about it. I enjoyed this one, but feel like I need this band in small samples.
Definitely had some cool sounds, just a bit too repetitive and long for me. Heard some Thievery Corp in there a bit.
I want a talk box. Bumped this up from 3.5 into 4 territory good job Pete.
Absolutely going to listen to this with extreme prejudice don't tell me what to do "George Michael." Kinda ashamed to admit how much I enjoyed Freedom!90 there. The rest was a tough listen and most was trash. I enjoyed the lounge bass in Cowboys and Angels but not the song itself. Low 2.
Gimme All Your Lovin is such a jam of a classic rock song. This album started off as a high 4 but drifted down to high 3 as it went on.
This is some punk I can fuck with. Instrumentals are fantastic with the bass standing out to me. Just a weirdly good album. Hearing some random LCD in At Home He's a Tourist. Some good chop.
This album flew by I was toe tappin the whole time. His vocal style mixed with the backing vocals and band just have an iconic sound to it. He also sounds like a vacuum during one point of Lost Someone and that is impressive.
Don't have a great feeling about this from the first minute but going to keep an open mind. Yeah this ain't for me
What an absolute banger of a song to start an album with. Happy Feelin' is great with the sax and whatever xylophone sounding instrument that is. Africano is a great instrumental jam. This album had some funky tunes mixed in with some soulful (albeit a bit boring to me) ballads.
Ayy another Kinks album. From the other 2 they've been pleasant enough. I've heard Victoria great song especially the key change halfway through. Had this on in the background while working but definitely getting some Beatles out of this one. Just some whacky shit that I can get behind. Between a 3 and 4 but I'm feeling it now so 4 it is.
Some of this is fun and definitely falls into the 90's rave era. I can feel it sometimes other times meh. This ones a little too long but still very solid. Lightspan is spooky! Could definitely take ecstasy in a warehouse to this.
I wonder if the band Jimmies Chicken Shack from Annapolis was influenced at all by this name. This is some good morning chillin shit. Easy 3 for some good listening. Nothing real spectacular but just good shit.
I have seen this name a bunch but never really dove in. A few songs in and I'm super bummed I didn't because I am boppin to this. Getting some solid Animal Collective vibes from this. This had the perfect amount of strangeness to it while still being super melodic and groovy. Big fan. Unfortunately it seems like this is by far their best album but I will absolutely be back.
Definitely sounds like faux Bowie. There are some not great songs on here. Kinda sounds opera-y. Some moments I think are alright but not great. Will not be back.
Already hate that I need to listen to a Youtube created playlist of this song by song. This just isn't for me. Not bad or anything, just not for me. Some of the instrumentals are solid. High 2.
I was a little disappointed with the last New Order album. That being said, a few songs into this one I am jamming. Really like This Time of Night. Elegia sounds like it should've been in Interstellar. Really fucking with it. The music on this is pretty fantastic. Like a more upbeat Depeche Mode. Can't stand the singer sometimes but it it mostly works.
Starting off pretty solid. Indie melancholy in the vein of Sufjan Stevens. This started out as a solid 4, but kinda dragged on. Still appreciated some of the weirdness to it, and feel like it was super eclectic while still having that indie feel. Low 4.
I enjoyed this one far more than I expected. Didn't really go anywhere but it was a pleasant summer album with some cool background sounds and solid production. High 3.
TBH I don't thinl I've ever listened to an entire Aerosmith album. Some ok ol fashioned glam metal the first few songs - not my jam but can dig some parts of it. Literally watched Not Another Teen Movie last night and the Janie's Got a Gun sequence is top notch comedy. "Use a song with her name in it" That was probably the best song on the album for me. Just too 80's but not particularly bad. Between a 2 and 3 but I'll bump.
This one has some classics on it with Daydreamin' and Kick, Push. I also loved I Gotcha, and Hurt Me Soul. The Instrumental has Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park producing it and it sounds like it. Jam. Just a bit too much filler on this one but still enjoyable af and I love his flow. Why does the album have a 12 minute outro? Almost brought it down to a 3 for that but we'll stick with 4. WHERE THE CHAMPAGNE? WE NEED CHAMPAGNE
Excited for this one as I have come to realize I'm a big post-punk kinda guy apparently. A few songs in and it sounds dirty and improvy - not complaining about either, I like the style. Careering is ominous af. The album as a whole reminds me of Can, but drags on a little bit too much for my liking and at times gets a bit too noise-rocky. Really enjoyed a lot of it though. Going high 3 here.
This was a beautiful album. His voice is so velvety smooth. Some songs dragged on for me but were still quality. Superstition is one of the greatest songs of all time. High 4.
Never could get really into the Beach Boys, but have heard about this album with like 40 years of delays. This album is a trip holy hell. Gets too rock-operay sometimes but has some serious moments of genius. Feel like I need to get exceptionally high and listen to this again. Solid 4.
Not really my kinda jam, but similar to the Bert Jansch album it's some pleasant background music. The production deserves a star itself - I would have never guessed this was from the 60's. Just alright!
Ahh Spacemen 3 with one of my favorite dictums - \"taking drugs to make music to take drugs to\" This album toes a line between brilliance and noise for me. Most of the time it works but there are a few times it leaves me scratching my head. I've gotten into some Spacemen 3 and loved the spinoff album we listened to a few weeks ago. Definitely a fan of space rock. Suicide has the riff from Run Thru constantly going. Wonder if there was any inspiration there. I've heard a decent amount of album now that fall into this genre and can see the influence they have on each other. Mostly Suicide into Spacemen 3. But can also hear it in some of the things they went on to produce (MGMT, Beach House). This is a solid 4 for me.
This album cover is terrifying and I'm not excited for it. Oh nice the sounds of Nazi Germany. Just what I want on a Wednesday morning. I got way further into this than I should've. At best it reminded me of Rammstein but a way worse Rammstein. In no way will I be back. High 1.
Diddy is so annoying with him just talking in the background of songs. This isn't bad but not really for me. Nothing really particularly engaging besides her voice which is really beautiful. Just doesn't do enough for me. Just got bored.
I know this album is influential and legendary af. I've listened to a bunch of times throughout my life and never really "got it". Not bad stuff and I'm sure it was at the time it came out, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention enough. Really digging Venus in Furs. Heroin fuckin rules too. Just an experimental ass song. I could see Nude Party covering a bunch of these songs on here. I find myself liking the weird experimental songs a lot more than anything else on here. Some was great some I just still don't "get". I'll revisit again at some point in my life.
Really digging this out of the gate. The transitions have been pretty awesome, just sounds like one long song. This is an acid trip holy hell. Didn't know Todd Rundgren had this in him.
Pretty easy listening for a morning album. Too easy listening. Got elevator music vibes from this one. Prefer other jazz to this minus the title track which got me excited for the album as a whole. High 2
This was definitely a better album than the previous one, but still didn't too much for me. Something about Aerosmith and Tyler's voice idk.
TV on the Radio picking up where we left off with some serious fuzz. Loving these about halfway through. Very eclectic and has great mix of electronica with rock. Fuzzzzzzzzzzzzz all over this album. Super high 4 and adding all TV on the Radio to my library.
Idk what I expected from this album but it wasn't this first song. So silly. Ok I did some digging and this is the husband and wife duo from Talking Heads. Makes sense now. Genius of Love rules I def know this song. That was so fucking weird. I loved it. High 4 close to a 5.
Spacey Kacey ayoooooo. This was a pleasant surprise. Never really got into her that much because it was always classified as country, but this had some great sounds and introspectiveness to it. High 3.
I don't like this guy staring at me one bit. Feel like this is way more noise-rocky than the last one. I really do not like his singing. Low, low 2. Debated going 1.
Kool Thing reminds me of Nirvana. I also hear how Radiohead was influenced by these guys on a bunch of songs. My Friend Goo was weird but I also keep singing it.
Getting a lot of Johnny Rotten these past couple weeks... I will say a few songs into this and I'm already enjoying it more than Public Image. That being said not all that much more. Punk be punkin' Anarchy in the UK is such a jam of a song. 100% in one of the Tony Hawk soundtracks.
So much glam metal and punk recently... This album has some songs I never go out of my way to listen to but are featured prominently at karaoke/nights out. Always some good singalongs. Couple below avg brings it to a 3.
Man I thought I was gonna like this a lot more after Busta on the first song. All kinda blended together. Just not for me tbh.
This sounds like Fatboy Slim to a degree. Wow did not expect a James Bond song. Bouncing around the house to Freaknik this is fun. Not something I'd normally go for, but I prefer this over the 90's warehouse rave stuff especially with all the different sounds going on.
Dumb Waiters is weirdly great. Harmonica fucks on it (I think it's a harmonica?) Psychedelic Furs not pulling any punches saying they want to sleep with you. Some songs have some terrible 80s'ness to them (Pretty in Pink), but a lot have some fun bass parts to them and interesting instrumentation. Low 3.
I liked the last Fall album a lot, but man there has just been some god awful singing on some of these recent records. Sometimes it works but other times makes me wonder wtf they were thinking. The last album was much better I've actually gone back and listened a bunch. This has its moments but doesn't get close to the highs of the last one. I think a better singer would do this band wonders. It's like every song is Losing my Edge by LCD. Past Gone Mad rules.
ENO Vocals sound so similar to David Byrne. Can def hear the Eno weirdness in If There is Something. Shit slaps. Crazy that Virginia Plain was the single it’s been my least fav so far. Sea Breezes confusing tf out of me since I’m at the beach. Interesting ass album. Weird but good weird. Highs far outweighed the lows.
This started out pretty well and was just alright the rest of the way. Heard some Talking Heads in a couple songs. Also had some 80s sounding terribleness. Going solid 3.
This album makes me want to burn someone’s house down. Em is unhinged in the best way possible. Lyrics, flow, humor, beats - has it all. Stan is arguably Em’s best song ever. Drug Ballad is his sexiest. Criminal is criminally underrated and probably my most played song from this album. Play Kim at my funeral.
This one wet back and forth between a 3 and 4 but will give it the bump for finishing off on that vibraphone. Pretty low 4 though but just a pleasant listen on Tuesday morning. Way less folky than I expected.
Really digging this a couple songs in. Like a modern Elton John. Was so confused when heard the lyrics to Comfortably Numb. Doesn’t hold a candle to the original but I still like it. Has that 70s soul vocals. I still can’t get the Elton John sounds out of my head. Not bad in any way I just keep hearing it. Also some MGMT here and there. So weirdly beautiful.
I fucking love Beck. E-Pro, Que Onda Guero, Girl, Black Tambourine, Hell Yes, Go It Alone - all fucking jams. Such an eclectic artist gotta respect that. All of the genre bending sounds and samples make this a 5 I love it. Go Beck!
This is so not hardcore. Something about this dudes voice or delivery seems so pretentious to me. Kinda hate it, which is a shame since some of the instrumentals are really solid. This was a slog to get through but had its moments. Won't be back though.
On a bit of a heater with some good sounding shit. Really loving the production and overall vibe of this. People is my fuckin jam. Really loving Like Fire too. Things songs just have a lot of soul to them. Go Joan
Sometimes it's so annoying to find an album that isn't "Super Deluxe" and 5 hours long. Who the fuck wants to listen to the Who for 5 hours??? Can you tell I've never been a huge Who guy? The Who have way better songs. I Can See for Miles rules though. High 2.
This was an interesting one. A few couple songs into it I was thinking this is perfect going to sleep music (not a dig), but then it got wild with some of the songs. Kinda sounded like a way way better Undertones.
Pretty run of the mill but found myself bouncing a few times. Low 3
I feel for Ogdens nut. Getting a couple Glyn Johns produced records recently. Not mad about it. The title track was great. Sonically all around your head with sick drums. This started out really sick and was trending for a high 4, but fell off a bit. Still solid.
ENO I actually listened to this one in the past year after going down an ENO hole. Can't remember if it was at an actual airport or not. This is really good rainy day music, or music for falling asleep (not a bad thing). Great background music for working. Just feels super lush. Thanks for the hug ENO.
ZOLTAN! This was at best mediocre and at worst mediocre. I rate it a 3.
Weird directors cut on AM, so annoying when you can't just listen to the original version of an album, or even one where songs aren't chopped or moved around. Consider me peeved. This was alright. I enjoyed that it intermingled with a bunch of different sounds, but I just never got going. One song featured a pedal steel prominently, one had sort of middle eastern vibe, and another had Jamaican. High 2.
Sly & The Family Stone fucks hard. My first real introduction to them was Jim James curated superjam at Bonnaroo where he played a number of songs off this album. Haven't listened to it all the way through though. Damn that key change in Stand! rules. Had some serious jams on this one. Really loved I Want To Take You Higher, Everyday People, and Sex Machine in particular. funky, groovy, jammy.
Never was the biggest Van Halen fan, but can't deny some of the greatness on this record. Jump, Panama, Hot For Teacher are classics in my mind. The rest wasn't terrible Van Halen I was getting pretty into it. I'll Wait gives me Dire Straights vibes for some reason. Low 4.
I really love the title track. Gets me groooooovin'. The sax had me moving this morning. This is between a 3-4 for me but it's beautiful out and that bumps it up.
Immediately can hear Rod Stewart on this one. Not familiar with any of his band stuff. This was a pleasant delight this morning. Really good original classic rock sound. Stay With Me was the only one I was familiar with and it still rocks. Also cool it has Ronnie Wood in it and produced by (again) Glyn Johns.
Damn No Other slaps. I love the dirty sounding bass on it. Ears perked up when I heard it. This sounded super similar to some Neil Young (in a good way). Was worried a little when I saw country and gospel but it was a good listen. High 3 but will be back for No Other.
I immediately hate this guys voice for some reason. Reminds me of a James Bluntish kinda singer. Hoping some of the electronica will help. Something about this pisses me off idk why. I feel like one song in this style is ok but a whole album is too much. Something just seems so fake about it. I did like This Year's Love, definitely remember it from Girl Next Door. This was meh to me and super forgettable. Maybe next time David Gray.
I have a super soft spot for Muse so this might be a little biased. I saw them on this tour (opening for My Chemical Romance lol) and this shit fucked. It has the bangers along with some random jams in there as well. Knights of Cydonia is such a jam and also a great song to ski to. High af 4 but some songs just fall flat to push it over the edge for me. Would've been an easy 5 for me in high school.
Started off pretty slow for me but picked up some steam towards the end. Dude has a Nick Cave sound to his voice. Low 3
Badass cover album. Even Trent Reznor said Hurt isn't a NIN song anymore, it's Cash's. Also cool that John Frusciante was on Personal Jesus such a jam. As is In My Life. All in all the lows balanced out the highs I mentioned. His voice was insanely good on this though. High 3.
Halfway through and there is something so incredibly cheesy about this. Of course as I'm typing this I really like Removables. Can definitely hear some early Radiohead in some of this. Overall pretty run of the road brit-pop. Low 3
What in the British Jamaican fusion hell is this?? This album was all over the place. Really weird but definitely worked sometimes.
Getting some Nirvana vibes from On the Lash. Meatmaker is giving me an aneurysm. I really liked some aspects of this album. Little too wild for me at some parts. Low 3
Fuck yeah love some Pac. Remember Kado. This doesn't have some of my fav Pac on it but its honestly still all solid. Lyrics are top notch for it as well.
I did not like the last Dexys album so bummed to see a second on here. Come On Eileen was the only standout to me really.
I'm immediately hearing Weezer from the first few songs. Stop Breathin' is an early standout. 5-4=Unity is a different one but welcome. This seems like a mix between some raw stuff and some well put together stuff. Still seems like a less polished Blue album which I appreciate it.
The classics are good and guitar is real solid (thanks Slash). The rest is kinda mid I just really don’t give a shit about hair metal.
You don't hear too many songs about hobo's nowadays gotta respect that. Enjoyable but nothing that really popped off for me. High 3.
Crazy bounceback in Find Somebody. Thought my headphones were screwing with me for a sec. This was solid enough and enjoyed the psychedelic elements. High 3.
Been awhile since I've listened to this one but it has some of my favorite songs by Hendrix ever. This is probably my favorite album by him and an easy 5.
This certainly has some 80's cheese to it, but also has some parts I really like. Idk maybe this whole thing is opening my eyes up to 80s music is a better light. Going with a 3 on this one as it was interesting. Plus Don't You Want Me fuckin rules.
Was pretty blown seeing another rock opera on here. This one was better than the ones we've heard so far no doubt. I can hear a lot of Beatles and some early Floyd/Doors on here. Some tracks hit more than others but it is all completely psychedelic.
This is some solid fight music. I think I was in the right mindset for it but definitely not one I'll always be into. Henry Rollins rules.
This started out better than the last album, then got worse, then got better again. Honestly, I'm not great with lyrics especially on first listens, but this guy is cringy af. The instrumentals are really good though so bumping up.
Her voice kinda reminds me of Gwen Stefani at certain points. Enjoyable enough but the only real standout is All I wanna Do. Happy I went to Matt & Kim instead of her last year. Just not my usual jam. Low 3.
Ice Cube is the definitive gangsta rapper to me. Doesn't have any of his jams to me but so consistently strong throughout. Can't believe he starred in kids movies after some of these lyrics, specifically You Can't Fade Me.
Would've thought this was a female if I didn't know any different. Had this on while working and nothing blew me away it was just kinda...boring? Might give another listen to decide between a 2 or 3.
Raekwon the Chef! This is probably my favorite from "solo" Wu. Nas guest spot is sick also. Love the callbacks to 36 chambers
Q-Tip's delivery is so effortless and fun with his voice. Can't wait for some tribe on here. This was a real easy listen I really enjoyed it.
This one doesn't have the same umph that the first XX album had for me. Songs sound great but just don't really go anywhere for the most part. I feel like this would be a grower of an album for sure, but as I'm rating it right now its in the middle ground.
I feel like I'd be such a huge Beastie Boys fan if I was old enough (or even born) when some of their classics came out. The hits hit hard and the rest I was bumpin' to. Love all the random ass samples this has. Still have had 3 Beastie Boys albums and no Intergalactic :(
Ah the debut Foo. This Is a Call is such a jam. Great opener. Also love that Grohl plays every instrument on this entire album. Big Me is also a jam. They played Weenie Beenie at 9:30 Club a few years ago and it was scary. This album has great heavy and soft moments. For All The Cows fux. Oof in classic rockstar fashion just read Dave Grohl cheated on his wife and is having a baby with another woman. I'm not angry I'm just disappointed :(
Bowie's swan song. I remember listening to it the day it came out at work and then over the weekend he passed. Blackstar is an incredible song and top tier Bowie song overall. I watched the music video so much when it first came out. Shit is the most creepy/artsy video I think I've ever seen. This is such a good blend of genres on this one and once again shows Bowies innovativeness even in his dying age. Strong 4 almost 5 but not quite.
This album had some real good stuff on it besides the Weight, which is an obvious classic. Chest Fever stood out to me and sounded wildly different than the rest. Great album.
She Talks to Angels is a great one. Some songs got a little too hair-metalish but not terrible.
Never been a big Morrissey fan and this didn't change it. The worst 80's sound with his dumb voice. Some instrumentals were alright I suppose.
American Pie is such a classic song (RIP Buddy Holly and Richie Valens). The rest of it is just alright folk rock, nothing crazy and not one of my favorite genres, but nice enough on a sleepy Monday. Low 3.
Some alright punk. Def sounded like it could be on a Tony Hawk soundtrack.
What an insane album cover. Did not expect it to start out so jazzy. I do not like the call portion of 4 Better or 4 Worse. On the DL is solid and instrumentals remind me of One Love. Passin' Me By I recognize no clue where from though. Really enjoyed the instrumentals on this one but the lyrics kinda suck ass on a lot of these. Between a 2 and 3 and gonna range down.
One of the singers sounds like the singer from the Pixies. Sugar Kane rules. Definitely has some crazy noise rock parts to it but there is some other really good shit behind it. High 3
Damn I remember when David Berman died a few years back. Could tell the man was sad. I enjoyed this but every song kinda sounded similar. Nothing was crazy about it but could see listening to this going to sleep (not a dig). Really liked the pedal steel on some of the songs. High 3.
Just from the track list this has some of my fav Dylan songs. While not a huge Dylan fan, I think this is my favorite era of his music. Standouts are Subterranean Homesick Blues, Maggie's Farm, and Mr. Tambourine Man. Solid 4. I can't stop thinking about this scene from Dewey Cox when I'm listening to Dylan now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u5x9pdInTU&t=26s
Not really my jam even though I got into the music parts, but the screaming is a lot. Def can appreciate some thrash metal. High 2.
I'm actually liking this a lot more than I expected to. The worst part of it is Farrells voice, but I suppose it works on some songs. Bumping this up because I was never bored at all and really liked some of the lesser known songs as well as the hits.
Second time rating this one, and it's an easy 4. Heroes is one of my favorite Bowie songs ever. Love the rockier songs but second half is straight chillinnnnn. Moss Garden makes me want to do shrooms outside.
Immediately thought I was listening to Pink Floyd with the dial tone in No Reply. Feel like I've heard worse punk but also way better punk. Low 3.
This is getting me hyped for some Portishead that we should be getting eventually (hopefully). Right after I typed that Hell is Round the Corner used the same sample as Glory Box. Would've thought this was a remix of the song if I didn't know. Really loving this halfway through. Also have Goldfrapp on one of the songs who we listened to earlier. This was such an interesting album love the trip hop sounds.
British folk rock sounds terrible but I'll keep my mind open on this dreary Thursday morning. This album rules actually. A Sailors Life is such a jam. Dear Landlord sounds like the dead.
I've only heard Drop The Pressure from Parcels covering it. That was decent I had it on in the background while working and found myself jamming here and there, but a lot was just background music. Still fun.
Really loving the chill, funkiness of this so far. Higher Ground is a classic. Still think Chili Peppers version is one of the best covers of all time. Don't You Worry Bout a Thing is a jam. Didn't realize it was a Stevie song. Def feel like I know cover versions more. Just shows how much influence he has. Lovely listen.
Another album I would take ecstasy to in a warehouse in the 90's. Shit would be a vibe. Brown noise on Walk Now...! Never really seek stuff like this out but I def enjoy it when it's in front of me.
Few songs in and already getting that same vibe as hanging at a department store with my Mom growing up. It's not offensive but I also hate it. Actually liking Dancewitme. The rest is kinda all blending together but like the sax occasionally too. I think I mostly just don't really like this type of R&B.
I saw that The The is playing at the anthem soon while I was there last night! Maybe I'll go if I like this. Singer sometimes reminds me of the singer from Geese. Halfway through and I really don't like it. Second half was no better. Sounds like terrible 80s music that didn't even come out in the 80's. I will not be attending the show at the anthem even though it had its moments.
Ooo I believe the second grime album we're getting after Skepta. Grime goes so hard sometimes. It's not allllll good but certainly entertaining and interesting. Think I liked that Skepta album more but this was still pretty solid. High 3 closing on a 4.
I really only know Paper Planes by her. That had its moments and low points. Pretty meh but was interesting at least.
Was really hoping for some better shit for acid folk. I enjoyed the sitar in songs but rest was so meh. Not the worst but def a low 2.
That first song was a psychedelic journey I loved it. About halfway through and loving this. This must've been so much fun to listen to in 68. There's a very distinct female voice of the 60's ala Mama and Papas and Carpenters and this chick fits right in with it. This was a high ass 4 super close to a 5 but couldn't do it.
This one was all over the place for me. Loved the psychedelia aspects of it but some was just alright.
Didn't care much for the first song but Grumpus is groovy. Also really loving Up With People. This started out really solid but kinda fell by the wayside along the way. Still had its high moments but the voice got super boring after awhile.
The Killing Moon is such a great song. Other than that everything was pretty run of the mill post punk/new wave. Still enjoyable might be my fav of the trio of these guys we've heard so far.
I was convinced I had to look up the actual end of the album to skip out on the deluxe version songs, but nope. 28 songs in 41 minutes is mental. Once again, I take longer pisses than some of these songs. This was a crazy album. Who tf decides to make something like this? Every song had a different vibe to it. Multiple ones I heard huge Beatles influence and then a million other weird random things. Just wish some of these songs were fleshed out a little bit more. Kinda respect it and see why it's on the list, but not for me and won't be back.
This is more of what I was expecting with that last acid folk album. Great sounds, but also a chill ass voice. I can dig it. Also love the first song that was dedicated to Nick Drake even before he died.
This is hurting my head so early in the morning. Thank god I'm not hungover. Definitely randomly hearing a more unpolished James Murphy in some of these songs. I enjoyed some of those but otherwise it's a no from me dog.
This first song sounds like Lumière from Beauty and the Beast on acid. This middle section is fucking scary in the best way. Some of these songs are bangers. They remind me a little bit of the music in XXX with Vin Diesel. Not really my jam was found myself headbanging to whatever language they were at times. Think it's one of those right album at the right time.
Heads Will Roll is a jam I do like the A-Trak version better just dancey af. Great album that is so synthy and danceable.
I'm sure this is great in the Punjabi community and I respect why it's here, but this ain't it for me.
Listened to this one a bunch going through my initial Radiohead phase, as the producer is the same and gives off a nice melancholy vibe. Definitely very different from the albums we've listened to so far as this is more of a mature sound, but I can still dig it. Standouts are Lonesome Tears, Lost Cause, and my personal favorite Little One.
Oh wow this is a long boi. Also need to point out that ENO has "Enossification" on a couple songs. What a word. In The Cage is one of them and you can certainly hear him on it. What a jam. Also Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins sound exactly the same extremely weird. Some really fun songs and sounds on here. Ran a little too long for my taste but still highly enjoyable.
Trying to think of where I know this first song from... It's Cellphone's Dead by Beck! Listened to a bunch of this grocery shopping and I must've looked like a mad man boppin around the store. Some top notch jazzy fusion. Props Herbs.
Listening to this just after I got to the airport and found out my flight is delayed 1.5 hours so apologies if I'm harsh. I like her voice and as far as country goes it's pretty good. But pretty good country music still kinda sucks. Flight just got delayed another 30 :(((((( High 2. Also I hope she left whatever dude she was with when singing these songs.
Feel like I've really enjoyed the Crosby Stills Nash and Young albums we've had so far so I'm pumped to see it, although another country/folk album is meh. All is pretty meh even though I love some of what CSNY is known for, the harmonies. Johnny's Garden is a favorite that doesn't have that. Loving Move Around too. This was a rare one for me where the album just got better as it got going. Was a meh 3 but worked its way up for me.
Immediate Portishead vibes. Man when trip hop is done well it SLAPS. Haven't really dug into Bjork's disco but really enjoyed the last one we had on here (divisive I know). Frosti is a fun song. Also the transitions on this are top notch. This is so fucking weird I love it. High 4.
Standing bass really coming through full force on some of these. Not my favorite jazz of all time but still an alright listen. Middle of the road 3.
When she said "my mind is like a plastic bag" I really felt that. I wrote this as a joke but this song akshually fux. Pretty solid for some punk! Definitely some of the better ones we've had. High 3.
In the Office, Daryll and Michael sing the riff to Mannish Boy in the episode where they drop Holly off in Vermont. It's also in a million other blues songs I'm pretty sure. You are now subscribed to Officefax. Pretty solid blues all around to work to. Had me bumpin the entire way. Low 4.
Nothing crazy just some good ol fashioned early rock n roll. I think the band that the Nude Party most closely resembles is the Stones and this album confirms it.
Idk what they're trying to accomplish with the album cover but I don't get it. Dirty Boys reminds me of the last Bowie album we had in the best way. Definitely was the direction he was going. I think Valentines Day is the only songs I'm recognizing so far, but all are pretty solid. Loving If You Can See Me and I'd Rather be High. This might be my least favorite of the Bowie albums we've listened to and I still really enjoyed it. Bowie rules.
Misunderstood is insanely good on mushrooms. Tim we listened to it when we did them in CP and it sent me. I've heard a lot of these songs but not the whole thing. The sometimes subtle (and always very much not subtle) psychedelia in this album is awesome. High 4. Can't wait for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot which I assume will be on here.
Def Leppard sucks! -Joseph Dirt Not really my kinda rock but def had some jams. Also didn't realize The Offspring sampled that gibberish at the beginning of Rock of Ages. Low 3. Janie's Got a Gun >>>> Billy's Got a Gun
The bass on Heaven is 10 Zillion Years Away is pretty sick with whatever effect it has on it. Had to look it up cuz it's also on Boogie On Reggae Woman and it's a moog bass. Sick I love it. Pretty enjoyable album on a chilly Monday morning. Not the best I've heard from him but still pretty damn good. Low 4. Also MOTHERUCKING HAIL!
This was a very soothing album. Loved the violin throughout but nothing stood out enough to go for a 4. High 3 it is.
I downloaded this one on my phone last year because I heard it featured an electric jug lol. The jug adds some weirdness to it that's for sure. Such a weird thing to display all over an album. It's a cool sound and random but doesn't do enough to push it over the edge of a 3. Old psychedelia is so odd.
There's nothing earth shattering about this although I do like the production. Every song sounds good but they all kinda sound the same. Allison's growing a mohawk! Mrs. Robinson is the best song on here and it's not even technically on here.
Started off rough but there are some pretty cool guitar parts. Not a huge fan of the singing but the instrumentals are undeniably good. Sinews fucking rules. If it wasn't for the voice this would probably be a 4 but I'm going high 3.
Weirds me out how much him and Phil Collins sounds alike and they were in a band together. Man some of these songs have that terrible 80s ballad sound. We Do What We're Told is solid turned it around for me a bit. In Your Eyes has that 80's sound but damn if it's not a jam.
Love a good live album and it was solid just nothing outstanding or anything. The classics are classic though. Pretty solid 3.
Had this one while doing stuff around the house and that made it feel like it flew by even though it's over an hour. Real interesting jazz fusions on this one.
I'm not a huge folk guy (especially not singer/songwriter) but in this case this is one of my favorite folk albums ever. Short, introspective, and beautifully simple. Pink Moon is such a lovely song. Honestly all of these are. They scratch an itch and are so comforting. A classic that I've listened to a ton over the years and still holds up. I want to listen to this on a brisk winter day with the snow falling now.
Holy trip-hop love it. This album is dirty af. Like alien drug music. Or dark web music. Idk something dark about it that I love. Aladdin's Story is a pretty one. Cool that it's also a Stone's song but was never declared for publishing rights. Then goes right back into a NIN sounding song. This album was all over the place in a great way.
Love a good live album, but this is one where the crowd noise kinda takes me out of the music. Sucks because the music is great.
Not bad per se, just really not my jam. Songs felt a little too repetitive and way too long for what it is. High 2.
Some songs were alright with the horns but this just feels like boring and flat punk mostly with a terrible voice.
This was alright, nothing special at all though. I definitely enjoy his voice but not doing enough to push it over and sort of edge.
I Wanna Be Your Dog needs to be at least 2 minutes longer that song rules. Album reminded me of some early Doors in a good way.
I'm not sure I know any of these R.E.M. songs at first glance. Pretty solid listen. Nothing really stood out a whole bunch to me. I feel like I should like R.E.M. more than I do. High 3.
This is probably the most influential album to me in terms of how I currently listen to music. Simply one of the best albums of all time and probably my favorite that we'll have on this list. Not much else needs to be said except do yourself a favor - take mushrooms and watch/listen to Dark Side of the Rainbow. 100000/10 experience. I'll still never forget sitting in the CP basement, about to blast off into another dimension, when the speakers blew during Breathe. As one of the top reviews states you have two choices: - recognize that this is one of the greatest albums of all time - be a contrarian twatwaffle Fin.
Going to try to listen to this one with no prejudices, but I can't imagine I would need to listen to 2 Aguilera albums before I die. Plus was really hoping this was some deluxe edition but no, just another long ass Aguilera album. Just like the other one her voice is great, but this is never something I'm going to seek out and just some over-produced pop. I have liked both of her albums more than Britney's album but nothing is redeeming to me about this except her voice.
Sick another The The album.... I actually loved this album. I might need to go back and revisit the last one we had a few weeks back. Sure, it had some 80's sounding bullshit but it also sounded fresh and love the electro-rock aspects of it. Singer sounded better from what I remember, had a Bowie vibe.
I know George Harrison worked with this dude a bunch when he was going through his Indian phase. Oh yeah it seems Within You Without You is a direct influence from Dadra. I like how he's kinda teaching as the album is going on definitely a different approach to recording an album. I'm kinda a sucker for the sitar. Not something I'm going to be seeking out but I do enjoy the psychedelic sound of this album.
There's something I really enjoy about Sonic Youth. Unfortunately there's also something I despise about them, the vocals usually. Some of the instrumentals are extremely interesting. Would like an album with just that.
About halfway in and this album is ethereal af. Hauntingly beautiful. I feel like you need to be in the right mood for this one, but I feel like it would be great on psychedelics. Also seems like a lot of this was sritten after his son fell off a cliff and died. Definitely gives it the sad tone but also seems hopeful. A little long for my liking but I completely immersed myself into that.
Sounds like a melodica in Epoca and I'm here for it. This has some bomb ass trip-hopness to it I am grooooovin. Kinda gives me Thievery Corporation vibes. Could see this album being played in a hip restaurant or something. Easy listening and enjoyable. Low 4.
Fuck yeah I loved the last Primal Scream album. Still listen to it occasionally. This is wild just 3 songs in. Like a mixture of a bunch of genres all at once. Hard to pinpoint it but it's groovy and certainly interesting. I feel like a ton of songs start out like a choir singing and then just bounce into something completely random from that. Loaded fucking rules. What a jam of a song. That was fun. Liked Vanishing Point a bit more but still very solid.
Was pretty excited after the first song and then the second song kinda sucked ass. The rest have some good instrumentation but Do It Better also sucks. Lazyitis is a jam with that sitar. Also has some Beatles lyrics from Ticket to Ride. This was a forgettable 3.
We have had exhaustingly long albums recently jeez. This is a great background album while working damn. Happy it's a more relaxed techno instead of a fist pumping one. Jacob Street 7am feels like I'm in a spaceship. I'm not sure I'll ever come back to this, but I did enjoy that a decent bit. Just a tad too long. High 3.
Some of these songs sound like that David Gray guy we listened to, except I like this one a whole lot more. Really loved the title track. And boy did it get fuzzy at the end. Album flowed really well and while there were some points I was a little bored, I enjoyed most of the songs above avg.
This one reminds me of the Robery Wyatt album where it's super psychedelic in nature but something just doesn't flow right with it. Front half is much better than the second half. Seems like a lot of them aren't even remotely finished. Definitely some of the later songs are from a crazed man as he had already been kicked out of Pink Floyd at this time, and like early Floyd it's good, but doesn't even come close to scratching the itch that the middle albums do. Just wish some of these songs were fleshed out a bit and produced even seemingly at all.
Hell yeah love Portishead. So mysterious sounding. This and Mezzanine (hopefully is on here) are the quintessential trip hop albums. The arrangements and programming is just hauntingly beautiful from start to end. Beth Gibbons voice just mixes so well with the music also. Her voice on It Could Be Sweet is fantastic. Also just going through the wiki and on Roads there is an instrument called the 'nose flute.' If this wasn't an easy 5 already it sure is now. Love Glory Box. So easy to bounce your head to every song on here and Beth Gibbons voice is so emotional and has the perfect amount of tremble in it. This was an easy 5 before I started and loved hearing it again. Time to go listen to the Roseland live album by them.
Singer-Songwriter and Country. Probably two of my least favorite genres but we'll see! This was a snoozer for me. Liked some of the guitar in some songs but most of it was boring as hell. I did really like Dream a Highway but it was still just a bit too long. Could see this being cool to see in person in the right setting though.
I feel like I should listen to Neil Young more. His vocals are hit or miss but the bluesy elements he adds to his songs rule. Just some good ol fashioned rock n roll.
This is kinda some forgettable 90s pop bullshit. Meh not a fan.
That Lady rules. Love the sample on Kendricks "i" from it. This has some bomb covers on it. Summer Breeze has that fuzzy guitar I love it. This was some solid easy listening on a chilly Monday morning.
Hahahaha wtf is this. 14 songs in 15 minutes??? This has to be the shortest album on this list I'm guessing. I take longer pisses than some of the songs on here. Not a terrible thing. If I'm gonna listen to some hardcore punk I prefer it to be short and raunchy like this. For that I will go midway. World Up My Ass is a jam.
This is hurting my head but does have some cool stuff in it. Hero was weird towards the end when it sounds like it's skipping. Jesus Built My Hotrod slaps so damn hard. The rest was pretty meh. Kinda repetitive in not the best way.
Already loving everything a couple songs in. Def had heard Pusherman before. Percussion on it is incredible. It's probably because I already saw it was a soundtrack, but I can picture this being in an old 70s/80s cop movie ala Starsky & Hutch. Album absolutely flew by for me. That was smooth af I think I'll go listen to more Curtis Mayfield now.
Title track absolutely SLAPS. John Frusciante's song Before the Beginning is a direct take on this and I love it. Some serious emotion behind that guitar. What a psychedelic ROMP that was. Pretty much every song had a serious groove to it with different instruments sticking out on each. I was bumping along to the whole thing. Idk if I've ever done two 5's in a row but today is the day! Go music!
I already hate this album cover. This is.... not good to me. Started out ok and may have had a couple moments, but then I'm really turned off by He Got The Whole World In His Hands. What the hell kinda production is on that. Sounds like some shite. Part of this kinda sounds like what Spector did with the Beatles Let It Be. Adding unnecessary string arrangements. This just isn't for me.
Not terribly offensive but also just power punk pop. Actually really liking Girl From Mars. Reminds me of early Blink 182. Let It Flow sounds like early Weezer too but a bit more fuzzy. This albums kinda all over the place but not mad about it. Lows were certainly low but really loved the highs. Middling 3.
This was like a mixture of Bowie and Depeche Mode. So naturally I'm into it. Just a fun ride through
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is an absolute classic. \"How do you wake up dead??\" Up On Cripple Creek is another classic. Love that dirty funk sound on it. Looked it up and it's a clavinet with wah-wah pedal. We need more of that in songs.
Definitely a different take on punk which I can appreciate. Reading about the frontman Shane MacGowan he is a crazy person. Definitely adding Fairytale of New York to my Christmas playlist with the fam. Not the biggest fan of folk or punk, but together for some reason it makes more sense. Not something I plan on coming back to but I could pound some Guinness and listen to this on St. Pats Day
This cover makes me uncomfortable. Started out as a worse Fat Boy Slim, but honestly got much better as it went on. Lots of strange sounds but also a bit repetitive with them.
Real chill and great for working. Might be jarring to some, but I love the juxtaposition of Green Calx. This shit is music for aliens and I'm here for it. Lots of beeps and boops. Love the repeating parts with other instruments woven in. Just solid and interesting stuff.
Never heard of these guys, but that was some pretty sweet psychedelic alternative folk-y shit. Noticed a lot of songs had some really solid harmonies too. Skeleton Key is wildly different than the others. This was just a strange album that was super interesting to me. Felt like it had a bunch of different genres and worked well. Creative af.
I feel like I should like the Pixies more than I actually do. There are great aspects of songs but something rubs me the wrong way on a bunch too. Velouria rules though. Elvis Costello's Allison > Pixies Allison. Is She Weird was weirdly awesome. Idk if I was listening more to this than the others or in a different mood but I really enjoyed this. Weird but with some cool instrumentals.
Bridge Over Troubled Water is a good song. Very peaceful and introspective. Cecilia is a jam too. The rest kinda became background noise. Not bad in any sense but just nothing spectacular. Just there.
For some reason I always thought of Pantera as a later 90's/early 00's band. Then realized that I'm not sure I know a single Pantera song. This shit is heavy af. I really enjoy the instrumentals but the scream singing I can only take so much of. Of course then we get This Love which doesn't immediately scream in my face. That was probably my favorite song on here. Hollow is also starting out solid. Going low 3 on this one - just not my jam.
This is a mixture of the worse Beatles/Who a few songs in. Not bad but definitely not what it could be. Zilch was weird af I enjoyed that. Got more into this as it went on. Liked the quirkiness of it but still was missing something. Solid 3.
If this is on here then Discovery and RAM better be. Not saying this album is bad in any way, just that those are top tier. This album definitely shows the flashes of what's to come, just a bit more drawn out. Solid album even if it runs a bit too long. Was bouncing around working to it.
Never really listened to Ice T, mostly just saw him on TV, but always a sukka for some gangsta rap. Mic Contract reminds me of Ice Cube. Tried listening to the lyrics as much as I could in this while working and there were some gems. Midnight goes hard. Just want to shoutout James, Jackson, Brandon, and Tim. Y'all are true PLAYERS. Body Count takes a wildly different turn holy hell. Definitely a bit too long, but super enjoyable and different. Not having heard anything from Ice T and just knowing his background on TV I didn't expect much, but this goes hard af.
I see this one has some of the classics in Tom Sawyer, YYZ, and Limelight. All jams. That opening note of Tom Sawyer rules and love that it's the first of the album too. YYZ is also a jam, especially because it is a complete instrumental and I don't have to hear Geddy Lee's voice. Limelight is another classic. Witch Hunt is a pretty epic song with those synths. Love the background bass on it too.
Knew the name sounded familiar, turns out this is Fela Kuti's eldest son from an earlier album we listened to (85). Went back and listened again to compare and I like his fathers album a bit more. Mostly cuz it also had Ginger Baker bangin' on da drums mon! Still pretty solid to see how this sound evolved over the years. Live For TOday was probably my favorite.
God I already hate this a few songs in. 2/3's in and I still hate pretty much everything about this. I get why people may like it who grew up in that era but I feel bad for them. Way too long and a struggle to finish. Can't wait to smash the 1 star tomorrow morning.
Sweet I loved the last Alice Cooper album. Also reading about Alice Cooper is hilarious. It was the band name and then the lead singer changed his name to who we now know as Alice Cooper. Billion Dollar Babies is a jam. As is No More Mr. Nice Guy. I've heard those before but the rest are all new to me. Sick Things is so weird but I'm into it. Alice I'm with you, I also love the Dead.
