Paul McCartneyMore like a sketchbook than an album
More like a sketchbook than an album
I had to google the author of 1001 to establish his age. There is a disproportionate amount of content from '67 '68 '69. I was wondering if he was 18 around then. Some of it was a golden age but this type of album does not compare with other eras. Maybe it was the drugs. Cover art 2/5
This list is selling out
Saw DIV live back in the day. A musician friend had to leave, he was worried about permanently damaging his hearing. it was a great gig. Couldn't believe how many people were on stage. The idea of a guest vocalist was pretty original when it was released. Nowadays every other tune seems to be doing some type of collaboration. These were not driven by marketing and sales but by finding the voice/character/mood to match the song. Iggy pop absolutely nails Aisha. On the next album Paul Weller and Liam Gallagher create works they never would have on their own and equal to their best. Cover art 3.5/5
Effin rubbish
Never heard of this artist before. I knew the song Chicago but not who sung it. This is an excellent album and one I will return to and recommend to others.
When it is good, it is excellent but too many weaker tracks take away from the album. If this had been on vinyl they would have to have edited down to 10 or 11 tracks. This would improve it a lot.
Nothing poor but nothing stand out. It felt like background music after a while. Dont feel I will be rushing back.
When I saw this popping up today my 1st reaction was really? Growing up in the 80s, Come On Eileen was a ubiquitous anthem of every disco. However I enjoyed this a lot. Just not sure of its classic status.
Experimental and incoherent. Tried this a few times but very little memorable or remarkable.
Classic album that arguably changed the music world forever. It is an album that you can revisit again and again. . It is brilliant but not their greatest for me. Musically i think many songs lack the sophistication of other albums: Rubber Soul, White Album, abbey Rd, Revolver. Still head and shoulders above the majority of this list and features one of my all time favourites: A Day in The Life
3.4/5 so I will give it the 3 Easy listening no one offended. 70s soft rock or AOR. "reeling in the years" and "do it again" the highlights Glad I heard it but just don't feel after this solid days listening that I will return to it or seek out more Steely Dan. Can't empathise with anything in the lyrics. The cover is an abomination. 1/5
Interesting one. It sounds like a few guys who have just heard velvet underground, and are bluffing their way to record an album. It doesn't match VU or Doors by a long way. We will fall: What were they thinking. pretentious gobbledeygook. John Cale influence and as one reviewer called it - padding. Lyrically these fellows didnt stretch themselves!!! Listening to some of their other stuff I'm not sure they had the ability. However all said, it is ahead of it's time and inspired alot of music I love. Great idea but very weak in parts. Cover art: generic atyle photo but it expresses some tension. Like the band logo. 2/5
Pants. Flared pants. Who chooses these. Not impressed with the definition of classic.
Was looking forward to Bob Marley but I was expecting an album with more of his hits. On repeated listens it has kept growing on me. Good reggae vibe. Cover art 3.2/5
Classic. Really enjoyed the exploration of the theme of the destruction of paradise, loss of innocence etc. Much more urban than their earlier cowboy themes. Gets better with every listen. Cover art: 4.5/5 iconic cover picking up on musical themes.
It has dated quite a bit. It is too long at over 60 mins and they were stretching it to release 7 singles. I smiled when I didnt see the lyrics on spotify; they must not have thought them worthy of posting them. 😂 they are pretty corny and the snippets of Reagan and Thatcher date this album. However it bears some re-listening. Cover art 2/5
Curious about this one. But ultimately it disappoints. it aspires to be epic but apart from a few singles it is quite forgettable. I listened a few times but inevitably it became background to whatever I was doing. Cover art 1/5
Torture. Painful listening Cover art: my favourite in a week 4/5
Class. Everything a classic album should be. Cover art: 5/5
Love Dylan. But a live album is a bit if a fraud. Like having a greatest hits on the list. Cover art 1/5
What an album. Radiohead produce music that is like no one else. It is contemporary and challenging. They push every boundary. But ultimately rewards repeated listening. Cover art 5/5
Unexpected but enjoyable. Raw, fresh, naive, 50s pop combined with new wave. Sound like a bunch of lads who have just got their instruments and having a blast. Simple direct songs. No over production going on here. Cover art 1/5
Not sure how this achieved Classic status. It is entirely forgettable. I was hoping for the south African jazz equivalent of Graceland. But there is not a whisper of Africa to my ears. Cover art 2/5 nice colours
I had never heard of them and I always welcome a new discovery with the promise of a back catalogue to explore. However so far they make all of the right sounds but I'm yet to be engaged. The reviewers who reference a shoegazing musical style must come from California. This is much more cheerful version of life. Cover art 1/5
0/5 Pants. Flared pants. I think I possess 1001 better albums which are not on this list. It should have been consigned to the archives a long time ago. Cover art 1/5
Sounds and riffs are good at times. But it doesn't engage me. I am probably not the demographic they were thinking of. To my ears it feels vacuous and staged emotion. it has no relation to punk for me. Cover art 2/5 corny
Classic album. excellent guitar led rock. Pounding on of my top 10 songs. Cover art 3/5
A (largely) covers album makes it feel closer to a greatest hits, is this cheating when compared to most of this list. That said Otis makes many of these tunes his own. The power of his voice and interpretation is excellent. I think the inclusion of Satisfaction was a mistake. Cover art 1/5
Bought this back in the day. I had to, I needed the cash and had to break a record voucher so i found this in a bargain bucket. I resented it ever since and gave the tape away. 1 song album for me. It is non contentious easy-going music that doesn't grab me musically or emotionally in any way. Not a patch on a contemporaneous album and genre such as Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout. Cover art: 2/5
The Kinks are a great band with unique hits full of character and lyrical talent. I expected to discover more here. The recording sounds dated. It has a few stand out tracks but that is it. Cover art: 2.5/5 odd one this. Psychedelic Victorian. At least they made some effort.
I had to google the author of 1001 to establish his age. There is a disproportionate amount of content from '67 '68 '69. I was wondering if he was 18 around then. Some of it was a golden age but this type of album does not compare with other eras. Maybe it was the drugs. Cover art 2/5
It's fine. The lady can sing but are there not 101 of these albums? What makes this special enough to be on the list? Cover art 3/5
This one is making 1001 feel really long. Not sure I get the entitlement of bands like this to have multiple entries on the list. Released in 1977 I'd suggest this helped inspire punk.
Didn't know what to expect. Coherent album well produced with excellent vocals. Cover art 1/5. Took them about 30 mins to do
Not his best record and a little bit long for me. African rhythms plus jazz are a good combination. Cover art: 4/5
Introspective and sometimes melancholy Paul Simon. It's fine but not his best by a long way. For me the better versions of some of the tracks are on the bonus edition and not on the original release. Simon articulates his lyrics beautifully, other artists could learn from his clarity. Cover art 3/5
Solid 4. Can't be a 5 because I can't figure out what he is singing about on any track. Bloodbuzz is a classic and the highlight of the album. Cover art (original cover) 5/5 you can always rely on 4ad
0/5 Ahh now. Up there with the worst. Whoever put this on the list needs to get out more. This kind of rubbish undermines the entire list. It doesn't even deserve a 1. Folk is far from my favourite genre, but this would not rank in any list of important folk albums. "I cant dream well because of my horns." Cover art 1/5 hippy commune family photo
Niche blues album playing blues standards. Not one in my "before I die category. " Cover art 1/5 5mins effort. Redeemed slightly by the choice of the beano by Clapton
Pretentious nonsense squeaking Cover art: 3/5
Saw DIV live back in the day. A musician friend had to leave, he was worried about permanently damaging his hearing. it was a great gig. Couldn't believe how many people were on stage. The idea of a guest vocalist was pretty original when it was released. Nowadays every other tune seems to be doing some type of collaboration. These were not driven by marketing and sales but by finding the voice/character/mood to match the song. Iggy pop absolutely nails Aisha. On the next album Paul Weller and Liam Gallagher create works they never would have on their own and equal to their best. Cover art 3.5/5
Absolutely refreshing take on all music that had preceded it. Poppy, punk, indie, catchy and danceable all at once. Some of the most arresting songs of the decade. All on a debut album. Cover art 3/5. Striking in its own way and explains the attitude on the album
Certain parts remind me of Sufjan Stevens, mmmm , I wonder how that works. Maybe it is the other way around, separated by 40 years. Ahead of it's time is clearly an understatement. The lyric 'vocals' on side 2 undermine it a little for me. Cover art: 5/5 iconic
Reckon it is on here because it pursues an idea ahead of it's time. But it is doesn't compare to other electronics or what is about to emerge with Joy Division. It is the shortest album I have reviewed at 32 mins and this is already 7 mins too long with the shocking track that is Frankie. Lyrics exceptionally weak all round. Cover art 4/5
Mediocre album made possible by Bowie who is responsible for most of the good bits.
One listen sufficient. There is a reason this didn't get released widely in 1985. Not shocking, but not good.
Maybe I'm mixing up this list with a classic albums list. This might be 1 to listen to once. Cover art 1/5
Whopping debut album. Knew most of the tracks but never realised it was from 1978!!! I would have guessed '82 or '83. Cover art 5/5
A few excellent tracks but a bit long. It would be a 4 if I thought I would go back to it more. Cover art: 3/5
Excellent. I'd never heard this album. I had figured it was gonna be from the 80s but really impressed that it was 76-78. It absolutely captures the migration from acoustic to guitar based rock. Cover art: 3/5
👍
👍
Its grand as they say. Not a classic. Cover art: 2/5
Really not very strong. Virginia Plain was not on the original UK release. Cover art 4/5
It becomes background music after a while. He has a better album. Cover art 4/5
Classic. As an Irish person it is impossible to vote this down. Slows a bit in the middle. According to the stats go...1 in 4 houses had a copy of the album. Although I think I had 2 😂
Excellent introduction to phil lynott and thin lizzy.
👍
Very eclectic and respect to a concept album. it is too long. Yet another from the digital era which would have benefited from a vinyl mindset. When it's good its excellent.
5 star +++ Absolute whopper debut album. Cover art 5/5 iconic
Is it the best Oasis album? Cover art 3/5
Classic. Redefining. Cover art 5/5
Not really getting it
Doesn't offend and like some of the lo fi videos. Ultimately it fades into the background. For me it is not a classic to return to. The playlist continued into Supernature which I enjoyed more. Cover art: 2/5
Surprisingly not too bad. Was expecting worse. Cover art worst ever
Enjoyable and glad I heard it. Cover art 3/5
Not memorable Cover art 4/5
This highlight is the cover Cover art 5/5
I should get it, but I don't. It just doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's me. Cover art 3/5
Too long. I finished my commute before the 1st track finished. Cover art 2/5
Timeless timeless classic. The best album of the 70 I live done on this list. as part of this I tried to listen to it afresh. I was surprised how much was piano based compared to most of his oeuvre. Cover art 5/5
??? Roll on tomorrow.... Cover art 0/5
Dont know why I never listened to these guys before. Very good. Cover art 2/5
Cover art 1/5
Fells like they invented a nee genre with this album. If it has a weakness it is that is lacks an emotional theme that resonates with me. Red squirrels etc. Cover art 5/5 Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Who'd have thought a painting from 1559 could make a great cover..
Funky and upbeat. a bit samey after a while. Cover art 2/5
Whopper album. Cover art 5/5 enigmatic
👍
Absolute whopper. I thought this must have been his greatest hits when in fact it was his debut album. Cover art 4/5
Nothing memorable here. Hair metal, Says it all Cover art 2/5
Top album showing the breadth of the band Cover art 5/5
I can hear how this never made it. Cover redeems it. Cover art 5/5
Impossible to argue against this one. So many classics Cover art 3/5
Much more eclectic than I was expecting. definitely one to revisit. Cover art 5/5
Odd album. Not their finest by a long way. I was surprised it had such good reviews back in the day. Music does not match the hype. Cover art 5/5
Don’t see the point of this one Cover art 1/5
The hits are the hits. The rest is fine but not memorable. Cover art 5/5 instantly recognisable
Better than I expected. More musical than similar of the genre. Cover art 1/5 zero thought went into this.
Stomping start but ends with a whimper. Definitely a side 1 side 2 album. Side 2 improves on listening Cover art 4/5
Not bad. Is it his best? Cover art: 4/5
Misogynistic Cover art: 5/5
Still as fresh as ever. One of my all time favourites. I never tire of it. Cover art: 5/5
Not very memorable. 1 or 2 stand out tracks, the rest faded into the background.
Cracking album. Brought techno and sampling to the masses. Cover art 5/5
She must have been a superstar in her day recording the definitive versions of many classics Cover art 3/5
Some bumper 80e Cover art 3/5
Doesn’t do it for me
Poorly done pastiche Cover art 3/5
Looked forward to listening to this when it came up. I like all of their hits etc. However I never engaged with it. Maybe it needed more time or maybe it’s not that good. Cover art. 3/5
Best three piece in the world possibly. BUT not the greatest songwriter by a country mile. Jimi should have just covered songs for his short life. These just don’t stand the test of time lyrically. As instrumentals they are brilliant. Cover art : Jimi asked for the original cover to be changed to this for US release. Don’t love it but it captures the era and movement and probably the state of his mind at times.
Never heard of this bunch. Quite like it. It’s never a 5 but glad to have discovered them. Cover art 5/5. You can beat a bit of surrealism
Not bad at all. Cover art 3/5
Cover art 3/5. Feel pretentious
Like it
Album needs more time Cover art 5/5
5* every day Album 3 by Pixies and they are still crunching out fresh whopper tunes as tho it’s their 1st album. There are many references to a best debut category. If there was a best first 3 albums band it could only be Pixies. Cover art 5/5. I love every cover on the 4AD label
Lots of fusion.
Surprised this has not been bumped off the list by better recent albums
Loved the review which stated this wasn’t in the top 1001 of 1987. This is no REM U2 Waterboys or INXS or Elvis Costello or …. or …. Cover art 2/5
Not bad. Cover art 4/5
Cover art 3/5. He looks respectable
Sub fugues effort. Too long. Too samey Cover art 3/5
Amazing album 10* Cover art 5/5
Never heard of this before.
Better than the other one on this list!! Cover art 3/5
Indies 80s fan. But never pursued Echo etc , this album has the 2 best tracks they recorded. Cover art 3/5
Production and sound quality is not great on this album. Does the closing track make it a concept record, if so they should go back to singing about cars and surfing. Cover art 2/5 lame
Sweet Jesus a shocker
Cover art. Look sick in retrospect
Love the cure. Not their best Cover art 3/5
Not for me
??? This doesn’t belong on the list. It is like music someone brought home from a summer holiday with fond memories, but it makes no sense to anyone else.
Great title. Great intro to Nick Will return to this again
Album does not stand the test of time
Love the cover. Easy listening. Not bad
Never really got this. I should donut I don’t Cover art: iconic cover
Top album A couple of songs too long Cover art: 4/5
👍
Always had assumed MW was a 50s dude
Reached 45 on the billboard. Should have been consigned to history at that point. It sounds like a slightly more sophisticated Fresh Prince, Wiki says they are a descendant of Earth Wind and Fire. Mic drop. I’m out Cover art: 1/5 cheesy central
Trying to understand what is novel in this album.
Blast from my past. I was 11 when this came out. I think I tried to record from TOTP with a tape deck. How sad. Happy memories. Apart from the singles is doesn’t stand the test of time.
This should be brilliant. But it’s not. Cover art. 5/5 love it
Not as good as Parklife Cover art 3/5
Like the psychedelic Pop of the 60s this New York rock Proto punk genre is one of the authors favourites unfortunately this is just same as lots of others. Cover art. As bad as they come 1/5
Some Echoes of Talking Heads (I used to) and David Bowie (change yr mind) against a dance track. Lyrics sub par. All too long. Cover art: 2/5 simple clear and direct. 5 mins on ppt could make this.
I get where they are coming from and even where they are going. But this is not a patch on the great examples of the genre. Later stuff begins to sound like Depeche Mode and ABC. Cover art. What on earth is going on. Probably matches the music well.
Back to psychedelic rock. When it’s not us new wave from 1979 NY, it’s the summer of love. Someone on Spotify is wondering when they will ever get to archive this stuff, if 1001 keep make people listen to it. Would drugs even help? Cover art: love the cover tho 😂
1 stand out track.
Two hits here. That’s all there is. There is nothing else to discover the rest is pretty poor. Cover art. Love it. 5/5
Attention seeking cartoon like rock
Simply one of the best albums to appear on the list. 10 star. This is what an album should be. Cover art Iconic
Hard to classify Cover art. Dart
Not my cup of tea. Not offensive just not for me. Cover art 0/5.
One of my favourite bands But not their best albums Cover art 2/5 truly weird
Ok all round. Hard to get engaged Cover art 1/1
This one is definitely not for me. Cover art 4 out of five
“Largely ignored “ said the review. Where it should have been left. Ignored forever. Cover art 3/5
Like to add the time but in the all-time racing it’s no higher than a two
Now I know what inspired Kings of Leon Cover art 1/5
Not sure
Don’t bother
Mmmm. It might be acclaimed as the 1st heavy metal album but somehow it fades into the background. I’ve kept listening and it is growing on me. Cover art 3/5
Nope 👎
👎
One hit wonder. I always felt his voice was taking the Micky. I’m convinced after listening to this record
Quirky but stands the test of time and much is ahead of it’s time. Cover art. It is art unlike many. Love the story of the addition of a lawn mower to the original painting.
A new low. Take a deep breath 🧘
Expected more hits on this one
Better than expected
Was this the Tom Petty album they want us to hear?
Cracker
Still as fresh today. Too long with some edits it get a better rating
Long forgotten. Should have remained so.
Pretty telling that the Wikipedia ‘legacy’ is one item: this list
Another miss fire from the list. This list could nearly be called the almost 1001 albums. Air Moon Safari is the album to choose
Barely noticed at the time. Long forgotten
Didn’t get it
Superb a classic Cover art 5/5
Classic. Just shows what interpretation can deliver
Has some unexpected tunes. Feeling like a soundtrack
You don’t have to like him to know this is a really good album.
I assumed the worst. 80s heavy metal. However I am surprised. I could escalate some of these tracks to a favourite playlist. Not sure what he’s singing about but the sounds are cool Cover art 4/5
Cover art 4/5 I remembered it being better. Was tired of it after a while
Don’t get it. One listens was enough for me Cover art. Confused
To paraphrase another reviewer, You can’t rank Beatles album’s against eachother. It’s a solid 5 start to finish. Cover art 5/5
Elevator muzak Cover art 2/5
Don’t get it at all
It starts and ends excellently. Admittedly had been worried. 2 Brian Eno produced records in a row doesn’t seem like the 1000 best albums. however by song two it descended into farce. It’s an ep at best. Did no one have an editor back then. Parts of ‘Here come the warm jets’ is so far ahead of its time. It could be to La Tengo.
Classic
Not for me
Leave the psychedelic rock to the archives
Pink Moon far superior Cover art 1/5
Cool as it gets. Cover art: 3/5
Surprised to find this on here. Does this indicate that every Bowie album will feature here. Don’t get the rapturous reviews posted here. I’m as big a Bowie fan as anyone one. But this is not his finest moment. Cover art 4/5
Excellent
Big fan. However the album includes the sublime and the ridiculous. Classics inter dispersed with cabaret tunes. Cover art 5/5 iconic in its own way
Sub par album of the 90s. Not a patch on stone roses oasis or blue.
Not a rap fan
👏
Was looking forward to this but not impressed
8/10
A collection of songs. Not an album in the sense we know it now. Cover art 4/5
Album cover. Is this the worst so far. 0/5 Not as good as their 1st album. Don’t think it is worthy of the list.
Like Neil. This is not very good. Neither his grunge or his folk.
What’s on earth is this album about. I have no idea what are you thinking about any one of those songs and even if I got I did I couldn’t empathise with any of us totally boring
Cover art 1/5
Cover art 1/5 Album a two
More psychedelic nonsense I bet
Nothing wrong with it. But I don’t feel like I will be going back to it. Cover art 3/5
Over the top. Too long Cover art 0/5
5* stonking album Always assumed it predated Funeral. Cover art 3/5
2 tracks of worth. The rest is achronistic (syc)
5***** One of the greatest albums of all time Certainly in the top 20 of this list
What rubbish
Stonking debut album. One of the best. *****
Noodling
Cover art 3/5
To my ears this sounds like every other generic bit of reggae that I have heard. The album on the list from Bob Marley was pretty good but this is reggae painting by numbers.
5*. Just what this lost needed
Rubbish Cover art 1/5
Pastiche to my ears
Only heard of him recently after his passing. RIP Excellent album
Approached this with an open mind. But tbh it was pretty poor. Covers without real reinvention is not what this list is about.
Doesn’t match their best. Album is patchy. Cover art 4/5
I have never heard such nostalgic rubbish. This is why rock ‘n’ roll was invented. Like the cover tho
It has three stonking tunes for a lot of the rest feels fairly like a filler. Cover art 5/5
Takes it off the list. Sorry Khaled Cover art: minus one out of 5
I can see why no one remembers them Cover art 3/5
As another reviewer suggested. Just the kind of thing you would hope to discover on a list like this. Cover art 1/5
Excellent Some weaknesses but some classics.
Heralded the arrival of CDs. Cover art 4/5 instantly recognisable
Cover art 2/5
I’m losing the will. This is hard work. Yes it is famous and highly rated by aficionados. To my ears, at times, it is pretty much random notes Cover art 3/5. Drugs were involved
Not a 1001 Cover art: Is there a worse cover. 0/5
Cover art 2/5
Can wait til the version with subtitles comes out. The more I play it the more I like it. Cover art 3/5
Cover art: I like the cover. 4/5. Not iconic tho.
Stunning album Cover art 5/5
Consign to history Cover art: 3/5
Classic
It’s not cloud busting Cover art 3/5
Very poor. Cover art 1/5
Spawned a genre. Not for me Some is very samey. Frontier Psy is very clever
Cover art 3/5
This is a solid 1 not. I’m just happy I won’t have to listen to it again. cover art: 3 /5
Sounds ahead of its time. It could have been a decade later with New Romantics. Love the song titles and humour Cover art 3/5
Never Heard of him before. Not bad. Gets steadily whackier as it hoes on. Cover art: 2/5
It’s good, but a little bit longer. Often feel a bit to earn and. Cover art 2/5. What on earth is going on here. Trying too hard. Too pretentious
Great great album This is what the list should be full of Cover art 4/5
Not for me
Norwegian glam. I’ve heard it all. As empty as a North Sea facing fjord?
Like it. Yes it is similar to a lot of the genre. But it’s my genre
The hits are good
The question is not whether this is worthy of a 5. It is. The only debate is whether it is their greatest album. It is pretty much flawless it is the rare combination of concept album and great music. Saw them recently as they kicked off a world tour. This record still underpins their set list
Brilliantl
Not for me
Cover art = 10* Album so influential
I can never get this band. Somehow nothing they sing about resonates with me. Cover art 1/5 I rarely like naive art
Love it. Not sure why I ignored for almost 50years
Much better than gansta rap.
Not offensive but not for me
Not one of the greats but totally listenable. I’m thinking 3.5. Can’t decide if that should go up to a four or down to a three
Ok in parts
Cover art: like the painting. However the album is only ok. Start is a bit wishy washy jazz. Couple of good tunes.
Needs more time Cover art 4/5
Been a fan since it came out. It is a bit too long and not as good as his soundtrack About a Boy
There has been some bad shit on this list, but there’s ranks with the worst of them. Unintelligible noise, i cannot describe it as music. Cover art 4/5
Sorry it’s not that good. Probably the most overrated album on this list. It is not a patch on sgt peppers or a dozen albums from late sixties Cover art : 1/5
Should like this more.
Not available on Spotify. From other reviews it sounds like I dodged a poor album. Cover art 4/5
I think one reviewer said MEH. Pretty much sums it up. The Band doesn’t offend anyone but it didn’t advance much in the music canon. Cover art 2/5. Did anyone think it was good.
Nice and short. Won’t be revisiting doesn’t offend Cover art 4:5
This is all wrong on this list.
Is it missing some hits? Playing this a couple of times. Keep thinking I’ve missed it , but nothing memorable. Cover art: please say no one was trying too hard for this
No one was offended. Glad to know it exists. If I have a posh sophisticated dinner party it can be part of the background music. Cover art. Odd choice. Still living with the direct aftermath of WW2 in 1958.
He can sing. Not my style
This simply doesn’t belong on this list Cover art: 1/5
Top class era defining album Cover art 5***** iconic photos throughout
Where’s the zero Probably one of the most painful listening experiences Cover art: it has some merit. Although I suspect the grey is taking over. Not vice versa
A reviewer mentioned a 2nd album by this fellow. Unbelievable
Not a rap fan
Really wanted the movin on up album. This wasn’t it.
Middle of the road 2-3. Don’t feel I will be revisiting Cover art 2/5
Wrong list for this one
First thoughts: Boom 5* Out and out thumper of a record. This is what I expected to find every 3 days. First 5 tracks as good as any album On relistening it’s probably more of a four. The lyrics in many parts seem pretty vacuous. After those 5 tracks the 2nd halve fades off rapidly.
Love LC but this should not be on the list.
Good not their best. Always listenable
It’s not hotel California. Not deserving of this list. Probably a 3 but downgrading it.
One hit wonder. Not deserving of this list
Shouldn’t be on this list
Don’t get it
More coherent an album than I expected.
Nick is his own genre. Classic record and one of his best. Suffers like many artists by the lure of the long play cd. This would be a better 42 min album Cover art 4/5 great photo
Effin rubbish
Boring after Sunshine… Cover art 1/5
Not my favourite but giving it a 4. It is exactly what this list is about for me. Confirming great albums and stretching your mindset and appreciation for albums you might not have purchased but should try.
Not on Spotify so YouTube had to suffice. Ads and all. Didn’t enjoy it. Found her singing style quiet irritating. Others may love it.
It’s not air or daft punk
Not a 1000 list
Loved these back in the day. Probably not my favourite of theirs but ahead of its time.
Not that good at all. It’s why we can’t remember it.
👎
Like the cover. It ends there.
Love Bob but never warmed to this album. Don’t know why
Not autobahn
It’s no Simon and Garfunkel
Another list low. Well forgotten album.
👎
Brilliant band at greatest hits level.
Iconic cover art
Not my thing
Rarely like collaborations
Awful
Finally something more recognisable Stonking album.
Great album. Can’t understand how I hadn’t came upon it before. Cover art 4/5
Dreadful cover
Must have inspired Bon jovi
I echo all the reviews that pitch this between a 2 and a 3. So rounding up or down is the dilemma. On balance I’m not revisiting this album unless you were in a discussion about Nile Rodgers. I will give a 2 ignoring his other contributions to music. Eg Bowie

Bought this in the day
Great memories

One of the best of the 1001
If this was your first day / album you might just cancel your sign up and walk. Pants
Not the classic it should be.
Not my bloody valentine
Is Happy Hawaii a repeat of Why does it have to be me? Feels like the album is a bit stretched. Aside from that it’s a 5. Anyone who grew up in the 70s cannot deny ABBA was a dominant force and influences all pop to this day. It holds its head above much of the genre produced since. Forgotten this was 1976. Cover art : 4:5 How cool is a glass helicopter
Just played’This is the Waterboys’ from Spotify yesterday.
Not her best and becomes tedious
One of my favourite Springsteen records
Weakest of the 4 triology! Still a classic
Not a fan of rap. But this is an album I bought. You can’t ignore them
The more I played it the better it gets.
Adult Oriented Rock. Mmm
The original of the genre
Nothing wrong with Elvis. But this is forgettable
5* if it was a tad shorter
👍
Still don’t get her
Not as good as Hearts and Bones
Wanted to like this. Some parts are Nick Drake Pink Moon, which I love. But there was nothing stand out.
Hard to refuse a 5 for this one
Not my thing. Never was. Just don’t get the vibe or hype of JB
Understand why punk was invented a year later
Cover art. The cover is nearly disturbing. I presume the band are sitting in the garden visible through the trellis in the wall. This photo took planning but what was the purpose? Did the album name follow the photo.
Bored after a bit
One of my favourite albums Cover art. 5/5. Chicago brutalist architecture
Not a 1001 classic
Timely
No place for the flute
Schizophrenia
Not one for this list.
Holiday hotel smaltz
Just not good or important enough
The days of this album, 1973, change my perspective on it no end. They sound a lot more like Kings of Leon of the day than the puppy ZZ Top of.
The reviews mentioning BeeGees etc don’t have a clue. This Bowie doing soul not disco.
Unlike most of you I like Morrissey. However there is no more than a 3 here 2 banger tracks tho
Wrong list
Passable
It starts off as the link between Kings of Leon and the Rolling Stones beggars banquet. However, it’s not long before to descends to some Johnny Cash and then a bad blues Brothers before returning into some psychedelica
Not offensive but it’s not for me.
Potentially the first punk album of all time
Patchy
Know the period well. Never heard of this.
Worthy but Not for me or the list.
Unique
Who knew he wrote Gangsta paradise I thought the hits were from the 80s
Not for this list
Not their finest but v g
Probably one of his weakest.
Sound like out takes that didn’t make 1977. Still good but not the 5* of its predecessor or their later albums. Cover art 5/5. Imagine this tiled on your wall
One of the great albums.
Wrong list. Forgettable
Surprisingly, good and energetic. Never heard of these guys before.
Hearing quite a Talking Heads vibe in parts of them Album too long. At least 3 tracks should have been cut
Good in parts
Good in parts
Seminal
Can’t believe that I’m saying this in the review but it’s pretty boring
Interesting
Really interesting album and back story
Such fake emotions. Sanatorium!
One of the greatest rock albums. And Radioheads most accessible
Background music for me
Little weak towards the end. Still 4.5. Featuring one of the greatest songs of all time.
He’s overrated
Boring after a while
Frank is a legend. The man responsible for the pixies can do little wrong. Much of their energy is reflected here.
She can sing. But it’s not a great album
Really really good
Interesting.
Good
Not a classic
One of the worst
Too long
Pity he left Spotify
Country pavement
I am waiting for the great Kinks albums. Are there any. 3 done and no sign yet.
Best rap album so far
Some of this should be good. But it wasn’t.
Never heard of her. Not bad at all.
Fine but not my thing
Why on earth is this on the list.
Some odd tracks out of keeping
It should be a 4 but I don’t see myself going back to this regularly. That makes 3.5 = 3
Bad but not the worst
Not a classic
Accomplished but not for me
Classic. 2nd side a tougher listen. Maybe a 4.5. However when I recall all the 60s crap, this has to be a 5
Mmmm brown paper bag
Stonking classic. Pixies announce themselves to the world
Coming after Pixies Surfer Rosa (5*) this one doesn’t compare at all favourably. It lacks all the complexity that make Pixies compelling and great. 1 dimensional in comparison.
A couple of tracks sound a bit like Ryan Adams, but the rest is Country and Western
Doesn’t offend
1
Can’t hear anything some of the reviewers do. Meahh
A couple of hits. Rest forgettable
A couple of hits. Rest forgettable five stars every day, one of my favourite band, they rarely put a foot wrong.
Nope
Live album is cheating
Sweet lord
I will never get some of these days back
Nope
Nah
Misogynistic
Was expecting a classic. It’s not. But it’s short. Can’t beat short
No for me
Layla a classic. 2 others of note. The rest didn’t move me
5 5 5 5
2 decent tracks
Omg. This has been the lowest moment on the list. Minus stars “captured conversations to thoroughly composed creations“ Who writes this waffle. Tone deaf
Couldn’t see a ranking for this, which makes me wonder if it’s new to the list. If so why? Doesn’t strike me as a seminal addition to the 1001. Echoes at times of fleet foxes, pink Floyd and most of all psychedelica. And we know the author loves this genre!
Never realised they have coasted their whole career on this one album. Omg.
Not their best
My wife likes it, we don’t agree on music
Not far me
Joni Mitchel is probably one of the most popular artist I just do not get. Everything about her musical style and lyrics just seems to be rambling and nonmelodic.
1 hit wonder
Last 5 days Norah Jones, Suzanne Bega, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, the Pretenders.
Solid
Not bad
Pity he’s left Spotify
The more I know about him. The better he is.
Rubbish
Bad pop apart from the classic Go West
Not the donkey
Is there a good kinks album? I think I’ve listened to 3 or 4 and this one finally features one of their singles.
Never a big fan but respect what she/they did
V poor
Genius
Another opportunity for the authors to sneak in psychedelica. Decades too late
One of the greatest of all time.
I thought it was going to break into Jesus Christ Superstar at every moment. Musical
Too eclectic
Iconic seminal album, on one side. Side one alone makes it 4****
Bad covers
It’s been a while since this list has served up a real gem I’d never heard of. Becks Guerin is one.
Wrong list
Exactly what this list was made for. Great album.
Not great at all
He looks young in the picture
Absolutely pants - Drivel dirges
I love Salisbury hill. Couldn’t warm to rest
Nope
Expecting something iconic. Not at all
Junk
Nope
Not bad
Am I in the wrong place
One of the finest albums ever recorded
Not as bad as some reviewers would have you expect.
Felt way too long. Nearly Whitney Houston at one point
Sounds like a soundtrack to a 1960s cartoon
Really?
Ok ish
I most like 99% of indie rock. I have found the 1% today.
Not as good as I was expecting or hoping for
Do this author do everything on his power to add psychedelic music to the list. Nonsense album
Not a classic
Stonking album. Every tune counts
Not for me. I tried
Nothing offends except the stereo sound and the ubiquitous tunes 😂
Weaker than Pills Thrills
Hard to do a full album
Way too long
Not again. Is this the 3rd time??
More like a sketchbook than an album
Reviewers referencing Pink Floyd haven’t a clue. This is 1977. It is the link from AOR to 80s pop
Class
The Decemberists owe them a little
Great album but could have been edited shorter
So sixties. Sub Hendrix or cream. Pretty dated now
???? Pants
Poor. Not deserving of selection
Excellent album
Classic Grew up listening to this on cassette along with a few others. I assumed this was the norm for an album. It turns out that it was a gold standard. And the reviewer who questioned Frank Lloyd Wright….. mmm I’m an Architect and think it’s excellent
Live albums are cheating. This is way too long.
What is this and why is it on the list?
Nope
Ok
Good.
The boring-est album of all time
Disintegrates into noodling in the background
Maybe I’m in the wrong list
Back to psychedelic folk
I’m on a bad run. I think might be the final nail. Roll on tomorrow
I can see what they’re trying He got a lot out of cars
Gonna give 5 for the 5 star content. But there’s a lot of guff in here which could have made it lower. Some of the dross is a 2
Freaking out myself, having to listen to this psychedelic nonsense
1001 hardly
Nope
Omg
Too long
Okay
Not sure
Mmm
Not looking forward to this…
Cracking album. Still sounds as good today
Excellent
Just cos it’s Neil Young doesn’t mean it has to be on this list.
One of the best and one of their best.
Omg
Not notable
Like the cover
FFS
Weakest Cohen album
Dump this from the list
Wrong list.
The author has lost it
Nope
Love it. What other album on this list playa song twice in a row
Completely non descrip
This list is selling out
Loved it then. Love it now
1 song. It’s rock not rap.
Great live. Bit hit and miss here. He has better.
As odd as it gets
Not having a good run on these!!!
One of the greatest albums of its and any era. Most albums start sting and Peter out. Loveless just keeps building and gets stronger. I never understood a word of it for 30 years until Spotify published the lyrics. I’m still not much wiser 😂
Expected better
Live albums are cheating
Doesn’t offend
Stone cold classic Cover art 5/5
Expecting a classic. Not at all
A bit weak towards the end
The kinda stuff you hoped to discover
Hate the cover Great album. Only contains 1 dud imo
Seen him multiple times but never listened to this album. Good but not as great as I’d hoped
Surprise entry. Doesn’t offend but definitely doesn’t inspire
This is not the selection I expected. What rubbish. Am I missing something
The least classic album
Mmmmm🤔
Not very remarkable I like the cover
Finally something good. The list has been in the doldrums for a while, languishing between 1 and 2 stars
Noise
Excellent of its type
Unexpected
Is this 1 song? Live albums are cheating
Not a patch on guero
Maybe there are not 1001 decent albums
So what kinda album. Doesn’t offend
Don’t get them or how this makes any list
Too long.
Had an abbreviated listen but a couple of tracks sounded good.
Better than expected
5+ stars. Always loved this album
Surprised punk didn’t happen immediately after the release of this record.
It’s not the cure or joy division
Song 2 is a classic
Interesting
Not as famous as people thought back in the day.
Classic
Disproportionate representation of this genre
Nope
Nope
Ok
Never realised it was a compilation
Just doesn’t grab you.
Not as bad as expected
No way
🤙
Doesn’t offend
Eclectic rubbish
Poor jazz psychedelic rock
Excellent
Boring
Bad it’s terrible
Seminal. Not sing along.
Non entity boring is worse than bad
Like the M S Preachers but I only knew 1 song. Great album. Dense lyrics, impossible to decipher with Spotify lyrics
Ahhh now
Only 1 track made the 1st greatest hits.
Covered by REM. That’s good enough for me
Rubbish
Doesn’t offend
It might be the best of its genre. Doesn’t matter to me.
Some of it excellent and some is dodgy
Can you separate the artist from the art?
Psychedelic rock. Authors favourite genre. Some forgotten albums should just stay forgotten
1 hit wonder. Wrong list
Pub band
If this is #20 on the top 40 ‘cosmic rock’ albums, does this mean: A. I have another 19 to listen to Or B. I am only half way cos if feels like I’ve done 20 already Speaking of 19 or 20. Are the tracks really that length!
Reviews are interesting. I think I most agree with the view that it is not a totally memorable album in the sense of a classic you keep returning to. More of a 4 star. However in the context of this list it may deserve 5.
Feel guilty having given prince a 5 star for an album with 4 hits but a few fillers. Admittedly open and closing track on purple rain are stonking. However with Document we have a gold standard 5 star classic. Start to finish every track matters on this album. This is the kind of classic that you can hold any other against.
Ahh now.
Looking forward to this one I struggle with pj. Everyone I know loves her. But I don’t get it.
Classic then classic now
Ditch it from the list
I am a huge Bowie fan. And he deserves a rake of albums in the 1001 list. However, he does not deserve automatic entry just because he released an album in 2014. I think entries like this do a disservice to the list and new artists, there are artists who remain relevant in old age, but he wasn’t one of them and that wasn’t a problem because he was a genius at his height PS this is his worst album cover
Nothing wrong with it. But not feeling it
In all honesty, how is this on the list?
Can’t knock it. Just not my cup of tea
Good. Not a stone cold classic but unique in its own way.
5555 ****
Saw them in red Square, Moscow. I probably need to give this four stars. Not because it is a bona fide, four star album, but of its kind it was unique out there.
3 singles are excellent. The rest is so so
Pop is not classic
Interesting
It starts stronger than it ends middle of the road, three star
One of my favourite albums of the last 20 years, Greg really good start to finish. It’s a pity there aren’t more album of this quality and debth.
Not as bad as expected
Don’t get the rave reviews. Very dated today
Passable
One of my favourites. Been wondering where they have been.
No no no
How did they make this list.
I understand all the misgivings about the content and the lyrics. However, unlike some of the rap that has been shortlisted, at least this album deserves to be on the list. It’s bond a generation I am going to give it a higher star rating because at least it is a seminal album.

One good song, and that’s it
I naïvely started this late, believing I was gonna hear 1000 albums, not like this, but of this quality about half of which I would know and half of which I knew were out there and yet to discover. That has not been the case.
Sweet Jesus, this could not make the top 10,000 albums. Moondance to this. Sublime to the ridiculous
Fine
Can’t knock grunge or indie
Is half the list psychedelia?
No disco
Better than the last one of hers, still not brilliant
Classic. Naïvely thought that this is what the list was gonna be all about.
Excellent, groundbreaking sound. Not as good as their other album on the list.
Only so so. Was hoping for better.
From the first song I think I’ve heard every John Martyn song. I think I have an irrational dislike of him and Joni Mitchell. Don’t understand it. I suspect it’s because he must take himself wayyyy too seriously. Far too earnest.
Not a classic. Sorry
Mmmm
Mmmm
I’m a huge fan of Elvis Costello. And I’ve really enjoyed discovering new albums from him on this list. However, I don’t think this one is worthy of being there.
Really?
Who on earth are this bunch
Back to the sixties. A couple of classics a couple of covers a couple of fillers. Bang album done.
Love Indy, but this is really quite painful at times
Doesn’t offend
I thought I done the psychedelic rock section. But now I’m in the quintessential psychedelic rock section.
Not their finest moment
Expecting more.
Not for me
FFS the 60s psychedelica seems to appear every second day. Now it’s worth, it’s gone Country
One I wouldn’t have listened to otherwise
Mmm
Not sure about this one
Everyone had a copy of this in the 70s
Excellent
My wife would like this one
You kidding me
The Damned I remember was a pastiche of itself. Hard to believe this is already a 3rd album. Lots of nods to future genres. You can’t beat at 36 min album.
So so
Some classics
Nope
There have been worse
Solid 3
So so
Misogynist
Nope
Mmmm
One track career
Hardly a classic
Are there 2 songs here or only one?
Solid 3 nearly 4
Mixed bag
Nope
Not bad
Needs more time
This is excellent. Way ahead of its time. I think it puts them up with the earliest indie: cure, joy division etc,
Excellent album. Sooo far ahead of its time. I had heard one track before. Really wonder why I had not heard the rest before
Nope
One dimensional
Graceland without the good bits
Ah lads. It doesn’t even contain “All The Young Dudes”
it’s 2002 and he’s found psychedelica again
Classic. Delighted that the 1000s of people on this 1001 journey will get to listen to this.
Nope
Better than expected. Quirky
Interesting. Glad I heard it
Not bad. Gets a bit weird at times
Really???
Is it just me
Did Robert Smith really consider this a forerunner of punk? It’s part cabaret, part glam, part bland. Almost the fav genre psychedelic!!! Long forgotten
Fan of KoL. HOWEVER This is so not the album. This is the album they sell out and go for mainstream popularity. Any one of first 2 or even the 3rd are better choices
There are three songs on this album. I think they each played three times. This does not make Classic.
2 songs
Excellent
How I resent listening to this on YouTube But 5 star every day
Mmm
Would have had 5 but the 1st track was on their live album. Live is cheating.
So live albums are cheating. I’ve taken swine star for this.
Out of the list would be better
Ibiza hotel background Muzak like you would hear by the pool. Suit the trendy euro travellers who don’t need to stress out by knowing the lyrics
This was uneventful saccharine pop when it came out. It is less important now.
How does the author get so much content from so few eras. Psychedelic, punk are 2 in particular that are overrated in their value to music.
Need to get this average up. Saw both acts in the last year. Probably 2 of the few on this list still touring small venues. Wilco one of the best live bands ever. Billy Bragg always worth your time. You might not agree with everything but he has plenty to say to make you think.
bored long before the end of this album
Mmm
Excellent. Not sure why I didn’t know him
What rubbish
Not sure what to vote. Long and rambling, I can’t hear a hot , but lots quite good
Nope
Nope how bad does this list get
Psychedelic rock again #499
The raucous bits are not brilliant. Rest good
Nope If you want this stuff, try Mercury Rev debut and Mercury prize winner
I can remember this band cause I’m old. However, no one remembered or bought this album. What is it doing on this list?
Ah now.
Good in parts.
Absolute classic. I don’t think there is value comparing Document, life’s rich patent and automatic for the people, each are classics. It often just depends on at what point you discovered REM. For me I’d heard document and saw them live. But the album I bought was Green. Truly transformative. Love everything they’ve ever done. Right up to the end they produced classic contemporary and challenging music. Green is a proper album. Nothing out of place and every track worth another listen. Head and shoulders above most of this 1001 journey. All topped off with an iconic cover.
A couple of good pop hits. That’s it.
Mmm top 1000?
Ffs more hippie stuff
Day and a half later and I’m still working my way through the album. It’s George and I feel sorry for him,so I will give it a 4
Nope
Mmm ok
One hit wonder
Is it just me but I don’t get this type of music
Who? Not as bad as I figured it would be
Ah now
2 albums for the band. Is this not a bit of a stretch for their impact
Chef from South Park was the best comment. Boring
Very open to a Sinatra album. Please tell me this isn’t it. Boring as hell and no classics
Iconic cover art
Dear lord
It’s been some week
My recollection was of a better album. There are only 2 tracks of note. 1 an all time classic. The rest are so weak lyrically.
Does exactly what it says on the tin
Excellent
Dated and boring
This is the most recent album on the list that I have found. Is the author saying this is the best thing recorded in the last three years? Thank God it was only an EP
Always like them
¿ nope
Nope
Class
Nope
Doesn’t float my boat
Look forward to this, but I was expecting a bit more
Novel. Very progressive new world music
He has better
Was the list hacked?
Austin Powers soundtrack without the catchy bits
Unnerved to learn he was racist before this and anti vax after. Music doesn’t offend.
Nope. Complete waffle
1hr12min. You’ve lost me already.
You couldn’t make this shit up
Like both not this
A rare day. A new discovery of something interesting. Not one you return to every week but interesting.
You can’t argue with ABBA. Good in parts
Good not perfect but good.
Not my cup of tea. Has some hits
Nah
Nah
Not great
Mmm.
Eclectic. Under weak bits are weak. Not sure why he did not stick with the heavier sound.
It could have been WORSE
Awful stuff
Not for this list
Reading the reviews, I was expecting worth. Quite possible just not Topp, 1001.
Really good
Excellent but not bowie
Worst of the list. ALL TIME
The authors favourite era. Feels like 501 albums are from 67-69
Owned this on CD. But not sure I kept it when I had a clean out
New one on me.
What junk. Losing faith with the list this week. 2 unlistenable
One good song. Doesn’t stand the test of time
Nope. Absolutely rubbish. Or not for me
Nope
Nope
Nope
Remembered something better
This is why KoL are held in such high regard. It was consistently downhill a couple of albums later.
Not available
Dig your own hole Is far superior
Ooooohhhh
Shocker of an album. Sounds like they were jamming in a shed. No effort to sing properly and solos don’t sound fluent. Ps I like Neil Young
Not his best
Can’t listen can’t give more than 1 star
Nope
Double nope
MBV don’t deserve 3 Clearly this list is too long.
Alright
Hard to knock this one. While it’s not Classic, there are enough hits going for it.
Mmmm ok
I struggled with this one when it came out. It may have taken years to return to it and understand its brilliance. But brilliant it is.
Not the best of their albums
One of the finest albums of the last 2 decades.
Iffy
Ok
Awful rubbish. Should be relegated to history
Nothing to see here
Don’t understand why this one was chosen. But Fats was a top man.
Deluxe double album. No thanks
Nope
Couple of tunes. But they were run of the mill 60s otherwise. But all over the shop
Not as good as I remembered. Purple rain is THE album
Not Pink Moon
The wrong Daft Punk album.
Love Lou Reed. But this is rubbish.
Is this a second one? Ah come on Probably better than the other
Is this a second one? Ah come on Probably better than the other
Pil can’t have 2 on this list. Other is better
Big fan of this in the day. Doesn’t really stand the test of time.
First 2albums are killer. Not this one.
Obscure. How do you even know this exists Most irritating affected lead vocals
Not bad
FFS
Good
Not bad
You pick the mercury winner not this one
Definitely nope
Beat fine. Lyrics and sentiments don’t
Love The The Infected is the better album.
Mmm
Again the wrong album selected. Urban Hymns was the one to choose
Best track by far Heal the Pain
Again wrong album
Not bad.
Not bad.
Agree with the monotone voice. Grating Love Pretty in Pink
Utter rubbish. Doesn’t stand the test of time.
Best bit have less country and western
What the…
Mmm. Author’s favourite genre
Fresh prince without the humour
1.5 hit wonder
Ahh now. A day in the life of a shepherd
Agreed. All hope is gone
Wrote this review a few days ago for Booker T and the MGs. 1.5 hit wonder
Pure rubbish. The list never ceases to amaze me with bad selections
Followed a reviewer advice. Started at track 4 and then returned to the beginning. It probably worked to a point. Maybe even an extra star. Difficult to ignore the 2 mammoth hits. Bonus for an iconic cover too.
Better than some
Why are these guys back again. Author’s favourite genre
Sweet Jesus what rubbish has this author found?
Classic It’s been a long time since a 5 star review
There is a clue in the name. But I really wasn’t expecting 69 songs. I’m done after disk 1.
Ah now. How on earth did this qualify for the list
What I’d expect
Later versions better when combined with other gigs
900 albums until I reached one of the finest of them all. Much has been written already. 2 additional reasons to make this one of the all time best. 1. The first time I heard side 2 of this album was on the radio in 80s. I was blown away. 2. You must watch Get Back. Apart from brilliant tvo, they compose most of this album too
Unbelievable 2 stonking classics in a row. (Abbey Road yesterday) I’m on the last 100 so maybe this is where the good stuff is hidden. OK is a transformative album for the band, rock/indie music and me!
I don’t believe there is a classic album from the alternative genre that I wasn’t aware of. I’ve heard of one track, but it is not a classic.
Doesn’t feel like a double album length due to the quality throughout
Owned this on cassette in my teens. One of their and the best
Do they save the best 100 until the end. I’ve had the Beatles, Radiohead, Elton John , Rolling Stones and now Queen this week. However this is not their finest. Bombastic to say the least.
Meah
Nope
Not as seminal as the reviews would suggest
Not as seminal as the reviews would suggest
Can’t believe this is worthy of the list.
Hysteria is better.
Consistently selecting the wrong album
Once again the lost misses the mark. What is this doing here? Historical curiosity maybe. Not a top 1001 by a long way.
Mmmm not sure
Nope
there was a time I thought it would be like this every day
❤️
So so
Edited down I.e. minus a few tracks this would be better
Chas and Dave does punk
Nope. But not as bad as something we’ve had on this list.
Ahh now
Really
Not as good as I thought
Liked it
There are equals but difficult to think of a better album in 30 years.
FFS. This author must have had the best sex and drugs in these few years. Clearly the drugs addled his brain cos he persisted in adding psychedelic shite to the list even though the world has moved on. Not available on Spotify. My prayers answered
Not sure
Great opening track. The rest is meahhh
There is a humming game we play at Christmas, it ends with all of us in tears of laughter. This is not the album : nonsense
Love MBV They don’t deserve 3 albums on the list
Nope
Nope
Nope
Liked it in the day. Lead singer’s voice lets it down a lot.
Not their best
One hit wonder, entirely forgettable.
Not sure
I bet Blake, but a couple of tracks.
Excellent, would’ve benefited from a bit of editing.
Not bad
Love it. Owned it in the day.
Huge back in the day, but it doesn’t really stand the test time and we never hear it anymore on the radio.
It keeps getting more and more indulgent as the album progresses.
Ah now. Did we not have the girl from Ipanema already????
Groovy Julian. No thanks. Psychedelic album number 205 on the list. Another sneaky chance to put in one from 1968/69 even if it was recorded in 2002.
Wrong album AGAIN
Rubbish
1 ok track. Did I miss something
Elevator Muzak
Bored after 1/2 a song. Wrong album, again!
There have been albums with one good track. This album is one track. I suspect it has just one chord.
Is every album from 1968 on the list —————————————- 201 hippie albums from’ ‘68 —————————————-
Jumbled style. Have to wonder whether this was their best album. Knowing this list, I have a suspicion it was not
Not part of a must listen to list
I was sceptical. Especially based by a double hour and special edition recording. I immediately suspected that the double album was result of the special edition rather than the original, to be honest I didn’t bother researching more. The end pleasantly surprised not all brilliant, but it’s better than the bad week I’ve been having so I’m gonna give them four stars even though really it’s a tree.
Sweet Jesus
I’ve asked a load of people whether they ever heard of this. No one had. Pure nonsense
No one who was there at the time remembered this. I see why
Not very country
Better than most
Can’t see any reason to include this
I like Nick Cave. I don’t understand the inclusion of this album
2nd supergrass album???? We’re they so influential to the canon of music??? FFS a double album at that!
Energetic but live albums are cheating
I was ready to rubbish this one. Not the worst. Deserved a listen. But I’ve been on a bad streak.
One dimensional, spawned is career
Love it. Wouldn’t have been 1 of the 4 Talking Heads I would have chosen. But they are all brilliant
Absolute rubbish.
Why this album. 1st better
A couple of classics, drawing rings around the world and juxtapose with you still would not feature in my top categories and I like the band.
👎
Some interesting numbers
Live albums are cheating
Would it get a 5* review if it wasn’t Nirvana. Good question but academic.
Would it get a 5* review if it wasn’t Nirvana. Good question but academic.
Paul Weller was day 2 of this odyssey. I thought this would be good. Disappointing.
I’d say Spotify refused it.
Completely forgettable.
Is there some quota system for genres??? This doesn’t deserve to be on any list
Sounds like she makes up tunes as she goes along. Cat melodion
Eighties classic. Some bits feel a bit dated.
Down to my last 10 albums. Delighted to see Belle and Sebastian on the list. BUT why this album. I reckon 100 albums on the list are wrong choices made for the right reasons. Like he was trying to hard. Just choose the ones with the hits that everyone loves.
Very dated. Not heard of for a long time. Very telling.
If I wrote a review using the language used in these songs I would be banned from the internet
Start off quite eclectic. Then it just too long. I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers owe these guys a debt.
First 4 tracks make it a 3/4 The rest is pretty forgettable. Over hyped.
Meaw
I must have missed the memo
Very 80s
Is this just a sneaky way where yet another Bjork on the list? Begins strong but runs out of steam for me. That shouldn’t happen on a short album
Hoped for better
? My 1000 album
Not bad. Loved it in the day
Why am I on album number 1003?
Doesn’t offend. But once again, did the authors select the correct album?
Classic Every album up to 1980s could be included on this list
A piece of history.
One hit wonder
Excellent
Didn’t grab me like a should have
Didn’t grab me like a should have
Nope
Not a classic
Not as bad as it sounds
Like all Police albums mixed. Some classics some fillers
Love us or just like us it is an important.
Why is this on here
Did I not see this already? Seems not.
Delighted just to be able to access only 4 tracks of a double album
Strange choice. Very obscure. Doesn’t date too badly. But still, should this actually be on a list in 2024
In the better parts it’s quite good.
One hit wonders
Have I lost it or has the list. How am I getting this at album 1025
Not sure
Naah
Author favourite genre
One of the top 10 of the whole list. Say it live in 1990 in Paris. They are still performing it now and it has not dated. One of the reviewers spoke about his grandad have this album. Not a grandad just yet but it’s me. 😂
Once again the authors favourite genre. Quite left field to even discover this. Bizarre.

UNBELIEVABLE The author has soooo much bias for the psychedelic rock/folk. Where on earth does he dig this stuff up??? 1034 that’s what I’mup to today. Does nothing ever get dismissed from the list????
No 2 from stevie. I’m not hearing any hits!
Classic
Not a 1001 list
I cannot believe I missed this one. Squeezed it in today
One hit wonder
Finally m. Absolutely one of his greatest
Remember when you thought this was gonna be every second day in disbursed by some discovery of wonder and awe.
Expecting slightly better
Rambling. Author must have found this in a bargain basement
Always been a fan. But this is as good as any of his releases
Not a patch on their other album on the list.
Only ok
Not available on Spotify. A rare day off.
Not available on Spotify. A rare day off.
Road rage impossible if you listen to this while driving
Better than expected for its genre and time.
Hardly the highlight of 1981
It is very good. However it cannot be a 5*, there is nothing to grab you emotionally. I am just not vested in it.
Psychedelica The authors happy space
Live albums are cheating and I was totally ready to trash this one. The word psychedelic appears in the genre and that’s enough to set me off. You have to ignore the guff voice over tracks. Next you need to try to block out the memory of This Is Spinal Tap. If you can do both it’s not bad.
Live albums are cheating. This is the 2nd album in a row that’s live from within 2 years of the 70s. Thankfully not a double.
The hits are good. It’ll you have to admire them for exploiting a niche that no longer existed.
Loved this in 1984/5. Do you remember the Walkman ???? Remove the cover versions and make it a single album.
Vanguard music for it’s time
Excellent
Hard to get the Pixar comments out of my head. It is very listenable but I’m not too focused on the lyrics.
Not a classic for this list
Spotify doesn’t bother with it. Tried a few on YouTube. It’s like picking out an American Fatima Manaions. But FM are much better
Stonking classic.
I was wondering how I had missed it. I hadn’t. It is number 1064 on my 1001!
No way
Noooo
One of my favourite albums of all time. Probably the best double album on this list. It just keeps giving, song after song. When you think you know it go back and look at the lyrics, so rich and clever, more that you expected from some rock and roll tunes.
Always a classic
I think the list took a detour down a country lane. As Fr Jack would say in Fr Ted ‘Nuns, nuns, reverse, reverse’
Banger Might not be quite a 5+ but close enough. I’ve been through so many that were less than 1 star.
It’s not giving me the Christmas vibe I’m expecting this time of year.
It’s not paranoid Can’t believe it it’s 1971
Better than expected
Classic. Worth 5 * for the title track alone.
