Popular Reviews

Metallica by Metallica

tedious and one dimensional. Remember hearing the album when it first came out, and not being overly enthralled then. As singles certain tracks stand up well, but the continuous one tempo power chords over the whole album just get boring after a while.

Urgent, provocative, menacing, violent, confrontational, funky. Of its time, but just shows how good old time rap was. Sparse production, basically 808 drums, samples and voice, but beats and rhythms to die for.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin

Not quite sure how, but this is the first time listening to this album from start to finish. I still struggle with Plant's voice, but the musicianship and the tunes are top notch.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jan 15 2021

Well that was an absolute joy from start to finish. Haven't listened to this album since schooldays and it hasn't aged or waned an iota. Stunningly beautiful.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Jan 17 2021

Certainly not a band I have ever listened to and was quite pleasantly surprised by this offering. Elements of Jazz, Blues, Funk and Rock are scattered all over, mixed and merged, you can hear where later bands, Scissor Sisters for example, have taken inspiration especially with chord progressions, song structure and harmonies. The album is quite 'quirky' in a way, remeniscent of 10cc, with the mixing of genres and time signatures and with clever, idiosyncratic lyrics. I will probably have to go back and listen to it again, the initial listen seemed to just wash over me with no real discernable outstanding tracks ( possibly meaning they were all good ) but that could be down to them being unfamiliar to me

There's A Riot Goin' On by Sly & The Family Stone
Jan 22 2021

If any album was need to show that the happy go lucky, love to all 60's were well and truly dead and buried it is this dark, funky, dirty, muddy album. Mixed to be almost unintelligible at times, this album ushers in the 70's predicting the tough times ahead. Brilliant.

American Idiot by Green Day
Jan 23 2021

Formulaic. Some good moments.

Hotel California by Eagles
Jan 25 2021

Absolute stone cold classic, nary a duff track on the whole album of classics.

Dare! by The Human League
Feb 03 2021

Groundbreaking at the time but, the singles apart, nothing here to get too excited about these days. Definitely of its time.
