What's worse? 3 stars or 1 star? To me, 3 stars says the album is perfectly unoffensive. Not great. Not something you must hear before you die. But not something you don't need to hear. At least 1 star makes you feel something. I love Alex Turner but this band is not him at his best. There are definitely a few cool songs but on a whole this album is a waste of creative energy. Favorite Tracks: Separate and Ever Deadly, I Don't Like You Any More, In My Room
I knew later M.I.A. albums were great. Don't know why I didn't think to check this one out. Probably assumed that Paper Planes was representative of the whole album. Not true.
A brilliant album! I immediately heard a Public Enemy influence, which was confirmed often in the lyrics and samples used. The use of repetitive news clips was perfection. Repetition legitimizes.
Alright. I was totally wrong about Lana Del Ray. This album is great. I look forward to revisiting everything she's ever done. 5 stars for changing my mind about something.
Everything was slower than I expected. I thought this was speed metal. I think I would have really enjoyed this album if you could hear the bass on anything other than Orion.
Nice variety of sounds on this album. Would love to have a mono version. These stereo recordings from the 60s are hard to enjoy.
Gorgeous melodies and great bass lines. I think I need more time with this album to really appreciate. Oh also... FRICKEN STEREO ARGH!!
Real mixed feelings about this one. I wanted to like it more than I did, I think. That delay though. Maybe deserves an extra star just for the delay.
Wow. Can't believe I didn't know this album.
Definitely a classic. I think I might like later Strokes more but that's project just because I know it better.
I knew later M.I.A. albums were great. Don't know why I didn't think to check this one out. Probably assumed that Paper Planes was representative of the whole album. Not true.
Very lovely. Glad to be introduced to a genre and musical style that I would have been unlikely to find otherwise. Album felt a little long at times and I probably need to be in the right mood for it.
A brilliant album! I immediately heard a Public Enemy influence, which was confirmed often in the lyrics and samples used. The use of repetitive news clips was perfection. Repetition legitimizes.
Never gave these lyrics a close listen before. There's more than meets the eye here. Quality rock songs paired with clever lyrics. Great bass playing too. Favorite tracks: You Can't Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep), This Town, Our Lips Are Sealed
Some really great tracks and then a ton of filler. I think if you were to trun the fat and cut this release in half it would be a pretty impressive album but in its current state I question why it even deserves to be on this list. The mixing was also really inconsistent but at least they had the decency to release the mono recordings. Favorite tracks: Lost Women, Over Under Sideways Down, The Nazz Are Blue, Hot House of Omagararashid
Well come on, it wasn't all bad. I was there longer than anybody and I'm fine, how are you? Why do you ask? 3:30. Favorite tracks: Song of a Baker
A one of a kind talent! Love this album. Favorite tracks: You Learn, One Hand in my Pocket, You Oughta Know
I was excited when I saw ABBA come up but this album was a bit underwhelming. Some really good feeling tracks but mostly a lot of the same. Neither good nor bad. Does ABBA not have better to offer? maybe they're more of a greatest hits kind of band. Favorite Tracks: Let the Music Speak, One of Us
Very cool! certainly deserving of more listens. I look forward to getting to know it better. Favorite Tracks: Vixen, Barmy
The Contrast between May's songs and Mercury's songs is incredible. Side 1 of this album is a really good hard rock band trying to find their way for their sophomore release. Side 2 of this album is fucking Queen. Favorite Tracks: White Queen, All of Side 2
Very cool. Have not been following the series. Which Bond Movie is this for?
I don't know. Not really for me. Her voice doesn't do it for me. The production on some tracks is extra cool but you can find that done better elsewhere I think. Favorite tracks: Stronger Than Me, What is it about Men, Amy Amy Amy, Outro
Did not expect to like this as much as I did. I really dig the country flavor. Vocals are way too loud in the mix though. Favorite Tracks: Tennessee, Let's Not and Say We Did
Whoa! These harmonies. There's also an interesting balance of these very familiar timbres paired with more challenging songwriting. It's like a really intimate, heavy ballet. Favorite Tracks: Love is Surrender, Mr. Guder, I'll Never Fall in Love Again
Didn't immediately grab me. I think I can learn to appreciate it over time. The problem is there are a few generic sounding songs up front that lose me. Favorite tracks: Kevin Carter, Small Black Flowers That Grow in the Sky, Removables, Australia
One of my alltime favorite albums. Such an intense blend of post-punk, prog metal, jazz, synthy stuff. One of a kind. Also big words that may or may not mean anything. Favorite Tracks: Televators, Cicatriz ESP, Son et Lumiere/Inertiatic ESP
Cool. Not really my jam but I can definitely see how this appeals to people. Favorite tracks: Beth, Do You Love Me
Holy cow this album is heavy. That harmonica rips. If I'm in a metal mood I would quicker throw this on than Metallica or sabbath. Favorite tracks: cross-eyed cat, down in Florida, walk-in thru the park
Pisano! Really unique, gruff voice. And what a trumpet player. Could listen to this all day. Those harmonies are so good. Those album covers are a choice, eh? Favorite tracks: (I'll be glad when you're dead) You Rascal You, the Lip, Jump Jive n Wail
Starts off real strong. Starts to lose me toward the end but maybe i'll come to love that in time.
Lots of ear candy here. Was glad to hear a proper synth album. Singers was a little mismatched for the style and these tunes are not as catchy as say Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, pet shop boys. Favorite tracks: tinseltown in the rain, from rags to riches
Heck yeah. This is some good music. Didn't realize Prince was so involved either. Favorite tracks: Like a Prayer, Oh Father, Express Yourself
Might be the best live performance ever captured. Favorite tracks: Plateau, Something in the Way, Lake of Fire, and all of them.
Definitely need more time with this album and perhaps an understanding of the context in which it was created. At this point, I definitely am appreciating the album but maybe am not enjoying it.
This album starts off strong but quickly dips into a slog. "I Need Your Sex" overstays its welcome by a lot (and get's a reprise?). Not sure what he was thinking there. "One More Try" is a snooze. "Hard Day" is an okay Michael Jackson song. Still, there is some fantastic music on this album. The production is great. Favorite Tracks: Hand to Mouth, Faith, Father Figure
Love the guitar tone. Which is fortunate since It's there for the entire hour. :) Favorite tracks: Love to Burn, Country Home, Mansion on the Hill
Not really my flavor of Rock. Favorite Track: Shot Down in Flames
Really weird Rick Springfield album.
Alright. I was totally wrong about Lana Del Ray. This album is great. I look forward to revisiting everything she's ever done. 5 stars for changing my mind about something.
Beautiful music. At times it reminds me of Sufjan and other times Wilco. Too dang long though.
Loved the album. Felt like the vocals were kind of buried in the mix which I found very engaging. Guitar tones were not what I associate with Cure. Very into it.
Absolute classic. Not a weak song on the album. Dragon Queen is such a secret slammer. I know this album very well and it still catches me by surprise. Favorite Tracks: Dragon Queen, Heads will Roll, Hysteric
Decent riffs. I do enjoy the brass instruments on what is essentially a pop punk song. I guess that hints at a ska/rock steady influence. I'm not enamored with this album though.
Yeah very cool. Would have appreciated more vocals on this one. Favorite tracks: Leb' Wohl, E-musik
Didn't realize I would like this so much. Ozzy's not great at singing but he is a great singer. and holy cow the guitar licks. And from a leftie no less.
Yeah.. maybe yeah. Right? I mean... Not really though, right? I think... Yeah I actually think definitely not.
Queen is very good. This album is heavier than other queen I have heard. And I like that. Favorite tracks: Flick of the Wrist, Lilly of the Valley
One of the most important albums of the 20th century.
A very important album in my history. I think Supermassive Black Hole was a turning point in music for me. I realized that sexy pop songs are cool.
Hmmm not sure what I was expecting but this wasn't it.
Hmm. An eclectic album for sure. Really loved some of it. Really meh about some of it.
Like it more than I expected. Is it just more or is this mix very muddy though?
Love the synths. Dig her voice. Bendy synths are making a comeback
Think I've listened to Zeppelin's one and two and not really been into it. Three was pretty nice though!
So it's like a punk REM? Sounds great on paper but it was not doing it for me. Favorite tracks: Too Much Spice
Cool sounding album. Not my favorite but pretty interesting.
Really enjoyed this album. Chicken Pickin at it's best. Love the slide guitar and the fiddle. Found his voice pretty agreeable as well. Helps me start to bridge that gap between Folk/Americana/Traditional music and contemporary pop country.
Very into this. Loved the characters in the songs. Great guitar solos. This is my jam.
Could be better. Could be Worse. Favorite tracks: 12bar, 25%
I am a Black Sabbath fan now. Thank you, 1001 Albums Generator.
I liked his voice but this album was way too much of the same. Favorite Tracks: For a Spanish Guitar, White Light, In Winter
Very cool album. I thought it would be straight up funk but this is more blues rock with a funk and disco influence.
What an amazing album. Of course it's Hip Hop but it's also Punk and Jazz. Such an honest expression of ecclectic musicianship. My only complaint is that it's too long and I think this was fairly common in the age of CDs. 30-40 minutes. That's where you want your album. Double albums shouldn't be the norm, as they were in the 90s and early 2000s.
Hot damn. What sn album. It's pop, it's industrial, it's perfect. I love the bendy blending of guitar and vocals.
Fine. Totally Fine. Will probably never listen again.
Oh a very misleading album cover. Really enjoyed this.
Officially changing my rating scale. 3 is no long there worst I can give something. 3is for an album I enjoyed but may or may not come back to. This doves album wasn't right for the mood I was in yesterday but j think there might actually be a lot more depth to this than I can grasp in a single listen.
Very cool. I wish I had the guts to sing like this or make music this weird.
Well this album is no good. There are some decent elements: the tremolo effect on jaggers voice and the horn parts. I think I might like some of the songs at the very end of the album but there was so much boring before it that this album is an easy pass.
Very cool harmonies. The songs aren't necessarily there on this album. I don't think this is crowded houses best work.
Hard to find fault with such a classic... And yet I will. Minus 1 star for stupid fucking stereo.
Love the mix of guitar and FM synths. Could see myself getting into this more.
I knew 12XU as a Minor Threat song. Live and learn eh? Cool stuff
Great sense of humor. Decent variety. Good flow. But also wasn't blown away by it and it's too long.
Never listened to this album closely. Always wrote it off as a boring departure for Beck. Of courses was way wrong.
Mixed feelings about this one. First four tracks were very not good and then then last four tracks were maybe very good. I like her voice in the lower register and not so much in her higher registers. Love all the cheesy FM synths.
Hauntingly beautiful. I'm glad the world got to appreciate Nick Drake. I'm said he never knew.
Holy Grunge. Good stuff. This list always manages to give you an album you don't expect from an artist with a more popular work.
That's album cover is Punk Rock for sure. This whole album is pretty heavy. Dear metal, you've invented nothing.
Was always aware of bad brains because of everyone having a sticker or a shirt. I can see why.
Wow. What a special live performance. Loved it.
YES! This is what I'm talking about. Songs that get in, get it done, and get out.
Gut reaction was what is this slow, boring stuff but I gave it a second listen. This is sort of a concept album isn't it? not sure why the title track was a single or why people liked it. It serves a storytelling purpose but it is not enjoyable to listen to. Still, i'm enjoying learning more about Country.
This guitar rips. Dig the singer's voice. Why is Jane says the only song I knew off this album? It sounds very little like the rest.
Really nice. Love these quiet stripped down moments that I don't believe you get as often with present day Coldplay. Not saying it's better or worse but it is nice. I think Clocks is an important lesson for all musicians. No guitar on the track, even though there is a guitarist in the band. And it was their first massive hit. Rests are also in the musical toolbox.
Back in my day Ska was upbeat and in your face. That's a weird comment considering that this incarnation predates the Ska of my youth. Anyway. It's fine. I don't dislike it. But I don't like. It had an okay sense of humor.
It's time to kick out the jams motherfuckers!!
Okay yeah I love this. I know this would be considered "Cheesy" by most but it's my wheelhouse for sure. minus 1 point for ABC being an awful band name.
Pretty good musically. Lyrically it doesn't connect with me. It's like YA music. It's well done but it's not quite for me.
Pretty boring. The 20-minute Do Your Thing is great though.
People are saying it more and more and it's true you hear it a lot that this is the best metal album ever.
Tom petty is a hit maker, that's for sure. Not sure I need to listen to a full album though. Happy to let the greatest hits be my gatekeeper for this one.
Wasn't feeling the singers voice at first but this really grew on me. I suspect there are better pulp albums out there.
Did not now this record but there are, as expected, interesting lyrics and excellent rhythms and timbres.
Yet another brilliant album from innovative artists.
Seems like this list has a real preference for jazz that is heavy as shit. I'm not complaining. Just observing.
Like some of it. Didn't like some of it.
Really great rhythms. Love the melodies that come from repetitive percussion. I'm also impressed to have encountered a bad stereo recording from the 50s. I didn't think that technology was available yet.
A brilliant pioneer. I'm floating in these synths.
Some cool tunes. Some boring tunes. Pretty much what I expected.
Really eclectic. Liked parts of it but wasn't enamored with it, on the whole.
Enjoyed this much more than the previous Byrd's offering. There are some great songs on here.
Hmmm... Not sure this was my favorite David Bowie. I enjoyed all the instrumental elements but that vocals were not there.
It's taken years but I think I'm staying to appreciate this album.
Gnarly guitar tone but this is not for me. Best track was just vocals, harmonica, and clapping.
In sold already. No need to serve up more Sabbath.
Shout out to weird voices. really enjoyed this.
A nearly perfect album. Loved it when it was first released. I was worried it might not hold up but it did not disappoint.
Yeah it's fine. Some cool ideas but I think the next era of RHCP is where they figured out their sound.. then they got to know their sound too well and it got boring.
To quote Tom Morello, "You don't gotta be loud to be heavy as shit."
Oh so it's like an Irish-version of the Dropkick Murphy's. :P
Daggone this sounds like it was a great show.
Hard to say what impact his death had on my perception of this album but this album hits hard.
It's growing on me. I know this is an influence for a lot of music I do love.
Great bass playing. Love the Organ. The intro track was a bit of a Jerk-off. Not sure why they would stick that upfront.
Have never really enjoyed Fleet Foxes. I've always found it a bit boring. Though, now that I'm turning into an old man, I don't mind it as much.
Masterful but too much fat.
Am interesting mix of stone cold classics and boring ass throwaways.
This is aggressive. The lowend never disappoints.
Perfection.
