Electric Prunes
The Electric PrunesSome songs were good, some were just completely out of pocket. Felt very dated in sound. I will use Toonerville Trolley as punishment for people who have wronged me in the future.

Great guitar playing, love the little breakdowns to talk to the crowd. Amazing voice, stellar rhythm. For being shorter song I don't feel that they take away from the experience. It's my own fault Worry, worry You done lost your good thing now Those tracks stood out
Awesome opening, loved the 4th chamber, I gotcha back, and bible. Bible didn't feel like it fit with the narrative of the album and at time it was difficult to understand the lyrics. Love the gritty nyc vibe
1) I like the simple and driving bass line combined with the shouting chorus 2)reminds me of the cure 3)bass and guitar melody were great. The type of song that makes me want to go for a brisk stroll in the sun. 4)does the song start out playing in reverse? Very interesting feel to the song. It almost feels stretched out. I like the "don't stop isn't it funny" part a lot 5)love the acoustic melody. Nice beat switch up near the last minute. 6)why so short and it feels out of place vibe wise 7)reminds me of a decemberists song 8)not my favorite so far. Simple progression and it feels like I've heard this song before. 9)I like the jazzy intro. I like the guitar riffs throughout the song, the build up during the chorus 10) I thought it was a rush song with how it started lol. I like the layered vocals. 11) ohh I like the switch up halfway through. I like how it kind of turned jam band for a couple min. 12) oh I like the intro a lot. First three minutes have been solid. Songs dragging on a bit imo. Solid album. I like it, don't love it. I can see me listening to tracks from the first half or end of the album, the middle was a little lackluster.
1) like the runs up the scale with the bass and guitar. High tempo mood setter for the album. 2) definitely starts off slower, but builds up for an awesome guitar solo section. Also the chorus goes harder the more I hear it. 3) wow didn't like the song a ton at first but by the end I was digging it. Awesome guitar solo 4)didn't like this song all that much, felt rather generic. But, in the second half I enjoyed it a lot more. Felt like the switch up really brought more melodic elements and jamming from the band. 5) this song is a 5/5 for me. Definition fuck it we ball. One of my favorite chorus's. Guitar solo is epic and the bass has awesome fills throughout the song. Vocal performance is great. 6) damn banger after banger. Another all time chorus. Pretty much same review as last song 5/5. 7) the drums are nice at the start, rather jazzy. Damn after the last two songs this one just doesn't hit as hard, not a fan of the chorus, lyrics just feels slightly out of place. Vocal performance is good. Not a fan of the guitar solo. 8) wow this song is a return to form after the last one. Longer song but it didn't feel long. Felt like it fits well with the albums theme and sends it off well. Awesome vocal performance and the energy was immaculate. One of my favorite albums, but I think it's just shy of being a 5/5
What's more punk rock than exploring new sounds in the genre? The clash comes through with an epic album covering punk, reggae influence, jazz, ska, and more. Every track sounds unique, which for a punk band to pull off speaks volumes to me. While I thought it took a little time to hit it's stride (after the amazing intro track), the blending of genres combined with classic punk lyricism regarding The State, authority, drug addiction, self empowerment, ect created a very memorable piece of art. While I think they could have cut out three or four tracks to keep the album more focused on a specific theme I dont think the entire thing would have blossomed without it. I've listened to it plenty of times before and I'll keep listening to it for a lot longer!
While this album isn't bad, it felt like a weak attempt at a mix of Janet Jackson, Madonna, and hip hop. Most of the tracks were outright forgettable with how similar the vocal performance and production was to each other. Featuring decent singing, lacking much emotion for the subject matter, and hip hop bars thrown in - I couldn't figure out what this album wanted to be. For songs like 'my bitch' I would expect a lot more fire given the matter of the song. The length of the tracks played into my confusion as well. For an electro pop hip hop album I would expect tracks to range from 3-3:30 min but a lit of these went 4:45+ The production features: the same sounding drum you could hear on any other number of albums from this time, strings which fight the electro pop elements for attention, and an overall sanitized and heartless feel. While there was good content in terms of lyrics, or story telling, it never came together with the other elements of the album to feel special in any way. And I'll probably never listen to this again. Fav songs: buffalo stance, kisses on the wind
I don't even know where to begin or how to write a proper review for this album. I grew up listening to this and its remained one of my all time favorite since I was in middle school. The songs don't overstay their welcome, almost every track is the right length. The album flows from track to track without any jarring transitions or out of place songs that take me out of the experience. The moods created by the standout songs like Longview, welcome to paradise, she, basket case and when I come around are so visceral I can feel exactly what the band was trying to convey. Whether it's Billies vocals that carry so much boredom, pent up anger or melancholy, Tres hypnotic or manic drumming or Mikes flavor he adds to every track. Mike Dirnt absolutely carries this album in my mind. While BJ and Tre Cool are no slouch on the guitar and drums, the musicality he provides on bass sets the tone on almost every song, and he throws in these little riffs and fills that add such personality to the tracks. And turns good songs into amazing ones. It compliments BJ's lyrics and singing so well and serves to lift the space left behind by rather generic guitar playing. If you haven't I'd highly recommend listening to the album again and focus on his playin. Easy 5/5 for me seeing how the music is great, doesn't overstay its welcome, has stood the test of time, and done so much for punk music as a whole.
Good album, probably one I won't throw on a ton but I definitely will listen to again. Stand outs were brown sugar and wild horses (so good).
Really liked this album. I love the vibe and and how the album makes the cover art even better. The highs were really high and the lows were still pretty good, albeit not highly memorable after one listen. This didn't have quite the radio appeal like other peog rock groups so I can see why I haven't had this jammed down my throat for my entire life. I'd like to give it a 4 as it was more than decent, but I most likely won't play this album unless I'm in a specific mood. Fav tracks: 21st century, epitaph, in the court of the crimson king.
There were good tracks on the album, but it felt a bit bloated for what it was. The highs were high and the lows were forgettable. I'd recommend some songs from the album, but I don't think I'd recommend the whole thing.
Like the title of the album suggests, this album is one hot and smooth soul album. Hayes voice is velvet. You get wrapped in it each track and just want to hang out for more. Despite having long tracks, which in 2023 can require too much attention for people, the songs don't drag. All of the musicians are right in the pocket and put on great performance. The mixing highlights everyone without taking the attention away from others, which I can appreciate a lot. While the story at the start of 'By the time I get to Phoenix ' takes a while to get into, by the end of the song I was having a great time. I'd easily recommend this, and will be playing it for years to come.
What an album. Has stood the test of time wonderfully, save for some of the electronic voicings on a couple tracks. The use of strings on the album takes good songs and turns them great. I don't think there's a single track on the album I don't like. I usually complain when albums get to an hour+, saying they lose focus on the material, or my attention. However, this album stays true and keeps me engaged the entire time. I don't know what else I can say other than I love this album! Fav tracks: turn to stone, night in the city, sweet talking woman, stepping out, summer and lightning, Mr blue sky, Birmingham blues
Despite having some solid tracks on the record, there seemed to be something disjointed stylistically between the longer and the shorter ones. Favs: roundabout, south side of the sky, mood for a day
Great album. From the very start his unique voice gripped me. The blend of musical styles on the album always kept it interesting. The mixing on a diet road blues almost have me a headache at parts, but the rest of the album was excellent. His lyrics made every song so good. I understand why my parents loved him so much back in the day! Track lengths ran long, but never felt a chore to get through (even the finale coming in at 16 min). I don't listen to a lot of Bob Dylan so this was such a breath of fresh air compared to the same couple songs that play on the radio. Would recommend and will listen to a lot! Fav tracks: love sick, standing in the doorway, not dark yet, Highlands
A darker album for Radiohead, this felt jarring in the first few tracks. As the album progressed I became more of a fan. It's hard for me to be fair to this record considering the band has put out so many which I would consider 5/5 that this felt...slightly disappointing? My favorite tracks: there, there & sail to the moon.
Some songs were good, some were just completely out of pocket. Felt very dated in sound. I will use Toonerville Trolley as punishment for people who have wronged me in the future.
Timeless voice that's completely unique. The band that accompanies her nails the tones to match her style. This album starts off with a mega hit in Rehab, continues strong through the middle with Back to Black and finishes on solid track with Addicted. Unlike many albums I've heard, the songs flow from one to another with ease. The stylistic choices made by the artist stay consistent through the record but don't get repetitive. The themes of love and addiction and the resulting pitfalls are highlighted by her smoky and expressive voice. Nothing about the performance feels designed by big wigs in an office somewhere. Fav tracks: Rehab, You know I'm no good, Back to Black, Love is a losing game, Addicted.
As far as Christmas albums goes this one was very enjoyable. Phil spectors iconic "wall of sound" worked surprisingly well for music that can be bare bones with a focus on the vocals. I'm not overly huge on Christmas albums, I tend to put on random music for a few days a year, but I think this is one I'll come back to! Fav songs: sleigh ride, Christmas (baby please come home)
Super solid album: someone great, all my friends and New York are insanely good songs. The other songs on the album are good, but nothing I go crazy over.
I don't have much to say about this. Long periods of not much happening, I don't remember anything about the album because it was kind of bland. Not bad music, but I won't listen to it again most likely
Solid album. His voice is so unique and conveys such a range of emotions. I want you was a slapper, blue chair and battered old bird were also good. I thought the last couple songs were a bit of a let down but the majority of the album was great! Will definitely listen to again.
Not much to say about this one. Main stream metal album that I didn't find to be all that unique. Solid quality but nothing that really sets it apart these days. Fav songs: wherever I may roam, nothing else matters.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but I have no clue how this album is held in such high regard? I liked the vibe on production, but at times it felt like the snare drum on tracks was way too loud. Other tracks I had a hard time hearing the vocals. Maybe it was my speaker? Another example of an album that could have cut the fat off to keep it from dragging on. I liked the features more than missy Elliot most of the time. I don't think I plan on listening to this again.
Solid rock album, glad it had some personality to it and wasn't a generic album. The band certainly has their own unique sound and I appreciate them for it. My fa orite songs were up on cripple Creek, jemima surrender and jawbone.
Didn't like a single song on this album. Frontman can't sing either.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Kendrick is a master of story telling and deserving of all the critical acclaim this record has received. The use of 'skits' on this album gives it a feel and depth unlike so many others. You get a brief glance into the life of Kdot, and the reflections of a wiser man. If you didn't pay attention to the story being told I'd recommend going back, or watching a YT video, and focus on it with the lyrics of accompanying songs. The production on the album is another high point. While sounding good, it has another layer of matching the lyrics and almost serving as a background painting for the story being told. 'sherane' feels like a laid back story with it's loose feel. 'The art of peer pressure' feels like a young confused man riding around a hazy day in LA. And 'swimming pools' drowns the listener with Kdot. Lyrically Kendrick is a modern master. He hides so many powerful words in his songs you won't get everything on one listen. "Sing about me/dying of thirst" gave me shivers the first time I listened to it when this album was released, and when the gun shot comes, or the lady fades aways in the second verse, I still get them. I could go on about this album forever, but I feel like there are plenty more breakdowns far better than this. Fav songs: pretty much all of them since I listen to this album all the way through every time I put it on. Money trees, sing about/dying of thirst, good kid mad city, Compton are what is choose this time around though.
Lovely album. I feel like I've heard this before throughout my life, and by various artists, but not done nearly as well. What I mean by that is the melodies, licks and vocalizations done on this album were so solid that between its release and present day people have been inspired by this. A very tight 40 min that wastes no time, bringing great track after great track. My favorites were: just for a thrill and am I blue
Liked the guitar on most songs, which seemed to be a big focus of this record. The singer doesn't have a great voice, but it's unique and oddly fitting to the music they make. I can hear a lot of the influence modern indie music has had from this group. Solid album but not one I'd recommend unless I knew the person's taste
I can appreciate the guitar, energy of the band and rod Stewart's vocals, but the lyrics were the most generic bluesy rock/horny lyrics I've heard in a while, showing very little attempt to ever sound like they're his own. I think this is a solid debut for a group, but sadly left to father time it feels like just another rock album.
I can't say I've ever heard of this band before listening today, and seeing the cover art and name of the band my mind seemed to make up some ideas of what the album would sound like - images of a '50s alien movie came to mind. What I was left with pleasantly surprised me. From catchy and fun, psychedelic, laid back to more country/bluegrass this album kept me entertained and engaged throughout. One of the things I liked most about the album is how the band kept songs simple without being dull and added enough flair to make it sound like their own. I think they found a sound that hopefully won't be outdated like so many other albums 30-40 years later. Favs: pressure point, nightmare pt 2, nothing to do, remember me
Really good album, such a vibe and was a fun ride. I love the combination of acoustic and electronic. The singers voice sounds so friendly and inviting. Something about this album just creates such a unique little world to exist in for 50 min. I think they nailed what they were going for. While this is not the best musicianship I've heard, I think there's something to be said about the product as a whole compared to getting hung up on the ability of the guitar or vocals or what have you. I love Yoshimi pt 1. That song had been stuck in my head for days.
Solid rnb album that had some experimental elements to it. I liked the simplicity of a lot of the tracks. It allowed the laid back vibes for many tracks to shine. I also enjoyed the tracks that featured the more African derived vocals (sorry for my ignorance in not knowing African musical geography better). I also enjoyed the rhythm on those tracks. The drums were nice. If I were to find any faults with the album, I wish the messages of tracks came through with a little more gusto. A lot of the energy of the album felt similar despite the message of each song. I'll probably listen to this album again!
The hip hop side of this album was not my favorite. If it had been more focused on the world music aspect I think I would have enjoyed it more. It felt like it didn't quite know what it wanted to be. 1 star because I wouldn't ever recommend this album to someone I know, and I don't think I'll listen to it again.
Enjoyed this one a lot more than the black album. I enjoyed every track and would recommend this to people looking to get into hard rock or metal. Everyone is dialed in on this album - but it still leaves a little bit to be desired in terms sound variation. While songs sound different, after an hour they can blend into the same soundscape.
Never heard of them before, and this album didn't disappoint. I listened to it twice in a row and the second time I enjoyed it even more. Might be my favorite new find from the list so far!
Timeless voice and great backing music. I felt like I was daydreaming on a sunny day.
The schaalian empire has invaded my mind once again.
Thought it started off strong then kind of lost my interest towards the middle and end. I enjoyed the vocal performance of billy boy
I switched this album and Remain in Light catching up whoops. Remain in Light is absolutely amazing and I think it's one of the best albums of the 80's. It's so funky, dark, and at times ambient. The kind of stuff that only 80's coke could produce.
Awesome album. Love pretty much everything about it. Combines so many aspects of rock and metal into a perfect blend. I liked the change of pace into changes and leguna even though it can seem to come out of left field. It was the brief respite before continuing on. I'll definitely keep this one in rotation. I think it's a 4.75 rounded up to 5
I can't complain when I get an OutKast album. Both discs are a fair representation of the duo. Neither are lacking style or skills as MCs. The production remains varied enough that 2hrs+ of music doesnt get repetitive. My only complaint is that a few songs could stand to be removed from the two records to bring down the total run time just a little bit. +1 respect for the "call me Mr. Ravioli" verse
Sounds exactly like I thought it would. Not bad, not amazing.
Solid album if you removed the whack skits and songs. Could probably be 45 min and get another star out of me.
80's misunderstood main character core. Liked the voice and some of the lyrics but it all kind of blended together.
Good not great.
Lovely album, no misses found here. Love his ability to blend so many of the genres of his time into his own sound.
Didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I'll need to listen to it a few more times to fully flesh out my opinion, but as of first listen it's going into my rotation. Weird and pretty.
Bruh idk sounded so similar to everything else from that era.
Incoming boomer moment - this album oozes everything about when music was just better and pure. There's a sense of musicality that is lost on a lot of albums, yet this albums feasts on it. Aretha has a voice that will not only stand the rest of time, but probably outlast humanity. The rhythm section is perfectly in the pocket and stands out as to complement the vocals and story without stepping on any toes. Perfectly executed, tight track list, and a golden voice. One of the best albums I've heard.
Back to back Aretha albums? What a lucky man I am. Once again I can't compliment her vocals enough. So many vocalists today sound 'perfect' without casting a spell on me. It's like comparing an all white and grey modern 'open concept' home, devoid of any feeling yet looking great - not something you'd want to raise a family in. Ms Franklin however, is like a family cabin. Looks amazing and you can't wait to go back and visit again, a lifetime of feelings and memories contained within. Even if there is an imperfection, it's executed so well it becomes part of the art. Opening with 'Respect' and ending with 'A change is gonna come' is a feat few artists will ever be able to accomplish. While the middle might not've hit me as hard as Lady Soul, that's of little consequences to me as both of these albums are masterpieces.
Loud, unapologetic, and distinctly them. AC/DC comes through with a solid rock album that sets itself apart from the rest, and for me, still holds up today. While not something I'll be playing all the time I think it's good not great.
Good album 👍 Frampton and company know how to put on a show.
Fun album! Never would have found it without the list. I'm definitely going to throw this one on a lot. I hear tons of other bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and The decemberists in their sound.
Not my cup of tea. Imagine is this only reason i would click on this album again.
Love this kind of music. I think it was great, but the highs were never that high and the lows were not that low.
Had to put on my shades so I could feel Superfly like Curtis.
Kind of a perfect album in my opinion. Marty pulls me into every story he's telling and makes me yearn to be a cowboy out in the Romantic west. These songs are infinitely replay able thanks to catchy rhythm and leads guitars. On top of that he has a voice cut perfectly for this style of music.
At first I wasn't vibing with the album, but after a second listen I'm kind of hooked on it
For some reason the guitar playing irked me
I mean how good is Wesley s theory though. That song is so layered and funky. The only song that hasn't held up as well over the years is king kunta, but it's still a fun bop. Probably in my top 3 albums
I want to like Costello but I just can't quite seem to make the jump. His music is uniquely his, he plays with passion and his lyrics are more thought out than so much drivel these days, but something about it just blends into the backgroud for me
This felt really one dimensional... Not sure if I'll come back to it much
I like parts of it, and think it's a solid pink album. This era of the genre just isn't my favorite sound scape
So good. I really feel every emotion while listening to this album. I'm really glad I'm getting into Bob Dylan in a big way through this album journey. So personal, so lyrical, and he's doesn't need to re invent the wheel to make killer albums
What can I say, it's a u2 record with two songs I like.
Despite some of the great songs on the album it just felt a little lacking on the other stuff.
I really like the medieval fantasy rock aspects and the band played great. I don't think it did anything to ascend higher though.
I can't put my finger on what exactly I loved, but it all just came together so well.
1) pale blue eyes is an wonderfully beautiful song. I keep replaying the chorus in my head. The guitar is so gentle and clean. 2) the murder mystery is one of the more memorable songs from a creative standpoint in a long time, and I learned started liking it once it clicked for me. I really liked this album.
I think with some fine tuning you could make this album great. Removing some of the tracks and tightening up the runtime could make this much more re-listenable. I thought parts of the album were amazing and would be super happy to see her in person.
The fuck is this bs
Up until the comfortably numb cover I was thinking about how much I loved the energy of the record. After that my day was ruined. One of the most disrespectful covers I've heard in a long time and it makes me amazed that they could even consider including it on this record. Everything after that made me feel like this was bargain brand Jamiroqaui. Tits on the radio is certainly a song that exists.
This is rock and roll
Nude, weird fishes, reckoner, and jigsaw are songs where Radiohead is at their absolute peak. This might be the groups best album but, people can be reluctant to compare it to ok computer - another monolith of an album. What I love most about this album is their softer touch on most of the songs which keep me submerged in a dream like atmosphere.
Great hits, an album that sounds different enough from the others in the genre that it catches my attention, the acoustic tracks sound great, the vocalist has a great voice. The only stuff I wasn't so happy with is the second half of the album kind of just blended into one sound and didn't have any stand outs. Definitely an album I enjoyed, but truth be told I'll probably listen to the first half then turn it off for something else on re listens
Meh
This is a 3.5 for me. There were a couple heaters on here but like so many of these albums, by the middle to end it's melds together a bit. Rounding down cause I'm a hater at heart and probably not coming back to it save for a couple songs.
Stevie Wonder lite. Had a fun time with it and was grooving the whole time. Probably something I'll pick up again. I think my biggest issue is its use of similar sounds on the songs. Felt like it didn't explore the sounds possible from a clearly gifted group. While good, nothing pushed it over the edge for me.
Wasn't convinced at the start, but as the album progressed I became slightly hypnotized by it. I really enjoyed the final track with it's softer parts and it's rises and peaks. The band really knows how to express scenes and feelings wordlessly to paint a picture.
The Beatles definitely have a couple better albums than this. The hits are obviously great songs, but then Maxwell's silver hammer and Octopuses garden just take me out of it. The medley sounds great as well. I think this album gets rated so highly because it was the bands last. Not implying it's a bad album by any stretch, but at times it's too goofy and overly simplistic. 4.5/5 but I'll round up since I believe it's better than a 4.
I love the pixies sound. Driving basslines, noisey guitars, and a singer I can't quite put my finger on. I felt this album was solid all the way through, but never hit highs that made it stand out.
One of the more important albums to exist. It's messages are timeless and can so easily be applied to the world we find ourselves in today. Behind beautiful, soulful, and expressive vocals the bass adds another dimension to the album which gives it such a masterfully crafted sound. What words can't express, james jamerson plays out on his strings. This is one of those rare albums that captured lightening in a bottle and used it to benefit the world, not only with sound but with its messages.
Love the youthful energy. The opening few tracks to this album are really good, it takes a little bit of a dip in the middle and finishes strong. I think the singer really knows how to dance between a more rhythmic and talking style into some singing. He's got a really distinct voice that is a bit unrefined, but it adds to the style of the album. I love how the guitars go from a bit of chaos into more grooving rhythmic section. They get stuck in my head all the time. One of those albums I've played a lot over the years and will continue to do so. I wish their newer stuff came back to this style a bit.
The cure sure know how to create a vibe. At times hypnotizing, at times soft and intimate I enjoyed how the album had some continuity with the soundscape. My biggest critique is that the sum was better better than the components that made it up. Some of the tracks were very forgettable. Probably one that will grow on me with more listens, but this was my first impression.
Her singing style just does not work for me at all. She sounds like a theatre kid immigrating the lead singer of a band. Her voice isn't bad, I just don't think her style works for me. I also just can't work out what the album was going for. I really enjoyed brass in pocket and think they should have stuck to a style more like that. The more pink side of things just felt so weak, and the pop combined with it really didn't feel like it added much. Really disliked the first part of the album, the later parts were a step up. Not one I plan on revisiting ever.
I don't think there's anything exceptional about this album, but I was driving around while it was sunny out with the windows down and the album just hit the spot. Easy to listen to, solid enough song writing and a pretty quick pace. There are some more heartfelt moments on the album which I thought came across as really sincere and kept my interest. I think I'll add this to any future drives where I need some tunes!
This album was so bad. If someone played this to me at a date I'd simply walk out. Possibly in contention for the worst jazz song in history. That bunny song was just straight weird ass hell. It's so full of itself while holding almost no genuine feelings of romance. It felt like a project the artist took on cause it sounded good on paper, but didn't stop to think about the end product. Who the hell wants to listen to 3 hours of this crap and how the hell did it make this list. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
While I don't think I totally vibe with some of the music choices I can't help but respect what kate bush did here. It all came together sonically and makes sense in a kind of unhinged way. I don't think I'm going to put this album on unless I'm going green goblin mode.
Kind of surprised with this one, I think I came into it thinking it was going to be all the same by the end, but I've found myself putting it on a couple of times since I listened. Maybe feeling will change with time, but super solid album.
Has to be up there with one of the greatest debut albums. Ive loved this album ever since I heard it for the first time. Classic rock perfected. The first four songs are just pure bliss and I can't help singing along.
Everything was good but her lyrics. For an album that has so many good things going for it, the repeated themes of "big dick, don't be broke" got old. Reminds me of how people dislike low effort hip hop for the same reasons. She has a great voice, style, band - I wished she expressed it a little more artistically than "big dick put it on my face" "it's the d it's the d" it comes across as trap rap lyrics in rnb. I loved some of the gospel inspiration on some of the songs. I think it worked really well. The album was really personal which helped me stay interested in her story. The features were solid but nothing that stood out.
I mean how good was 4 women. Simone's ability to express emotion through her voice is top tier. This is definitely an album I was happy to get and would love to get a physical copy and a record player to listen on.
The worst thing art can do is fail to produce an emotion from it. I went into this album with hope that it would be a fun electronic/dnb record. What I was left with was a deflating sense of fun as none of the songs did anything for me. It all felt like it's been done before and better. My rating might not represent the musical skill of the album but my experience coming away from it. Entirely forgettable.
I enjoyed this one. Had some bops. I thought it over used a certain tone and chord progression which made some of the songs feel way too similar.
This is mediocrity as an album. People rating this highly don't season their food.
A couple of the songs are just dreadful, but I was surprised by the rest of it. I think it stays enough out of the generic classic rock sound that it held my attention throughout.
The drums were great and the final track was really good! I wish the singing didn't bother me as much as it did, but it almost felt like the vocalists were off slightly and it was a bit grating to my ears. I hope we get more music outside of the anglosphere because it's always a treat
Instantly one of my favorite albums. I think the band was beyond tight, the bass and drums had that pocket stuffed. Mayfield was so soulful sounding I couldn't focus on anything else. Also I think this is one of the best mixed albums I've heard!! I don't know if it was my headphones hitting the right band for this but everything was crystal clear and the instruments sat perfectly alongside one another. Billy Jack, so in love, and blue Monday people are perfection.
The hits on this album have always been a tour de force of 2010's pop and still hold up after all these years. It's impossible to not sing along to blank space or bad blood. The sound is very grand on this album, even on the softer tracks. I think it really adds a nice feel. The production is great, but on some of the tracks on the back half feels a bit cookie cutter. I think after the highs of the first 2/3 the end of the album didn't hit me the same way and bored me a bit. Definitely one of the best pop albums of the 2010's. I don't listen to Taylor Swift outside of the radio but this is definitely one I'll come back to!
Good music.
Wasn't interested in a fair number of the songs, but it still had some hitters.
John Paul jones is daddy
Just super generic music that blends into the background as your mind wanders to other things. No interest in it.
Started off really strong but kind of got weaker as it went on past the first half. The start of this album is goated though
Besides two of their best songs the album never rose to that level again. Good music though!
Meh I think it kind of got in it's own ass about being avant garde or whatever you want to call it.
Such a fun album. I wanted to dance the entire time I was walking. The bass player sure knows how to write a catchy bass line. Love David burns energy. You can tell they find their sound on this album but don't quite have it refined yet.
Neuron activation.
Didn't enjoy all of this one, I felt like it was a play that was adapted to an album and some of the outlandish lyrics made it hard to take completely serious. I think the music was good however and it grew on me by the end. I'm curious what a relisten would do for me.
Maybe a bit long and could cut some tracks to concentrate the greatness of this album. However, I think this is one of their more impressive records and I've already listened to it a few times before and love it.
I like Lorde. This isn't an album I'll put on frequently, but definitely fills a craving for when I need it. I like how she's grown from Royals and Tennis Court and evolved her songwriting and sound.
I enjoyed some of the songs but grew tired of the album by the end. Maybe it's fatigue from hearing this a lot in my childhood.
Don't have much to say about this.
Interesting depature from what I typically listened too. I think it was actually quite solid and could see myself putting this on to calm down and enjoy some peaceful moments of the day! 3.5
Honestly wasn't that impressed with this one compared to his other work.
Nilsson schilsson more like Nilsson make better music, son.
Forgot this album doesn't have a bad song
Drunk uncle ass music
Idk just not for me. Found it boring
Typically I really enjoy funk bands but this one never took me to the next level. Good, but not anything amazing.
Solid Texas rock. I think it stands out just in the genre to have me come back to it over a lot of other artists I've listened too.
I mean what else can I say other than I was grooving the entire time while mowing the lawn?
After a couple tracks I got kind of bored with the album. Nothing really stood out after the opening track. Probably not something I plan on listening to again
First song is a banger and there's some decent stuff spread throughout the album, but it was just a bit long and never reached the heights of the opener again.
Made me want to sing along the whole time.
Falls off a bit but really solid
This is one of the formative albums in my life so I'm probably a bit biased as I listened to this so much when it was released
An ok album mixed with some really good songs. It felt like like a lot of the songs were trying to sound similar, but didn't stick like the hits off this. The last song was by far the worst to me and ended it on a bit of a sour note.
There are other albums by them that I would much rather listen to. Not bad by any means, but there was maybe one song (strange world) that I would listen to again.
I thought this was a really pleasant album. A couple of songs I wouldn't add to a playlist of Beatles songs, but for the most part great.
While I can respect them as musicians, this album did absolutely nothing for me and I couldn't wait for it to end. It was very boring and mind numbing.
A really solid album at its core that suffers from some bloat. I really love the drums, bass, and psychedelic elements. Andre 3k and Big Boi continue to be my favorite rap duo; providing a nice one-two punch of their own styles. This isn't as high up on my tier list for their discography, but it features some of their best individual tracks. I think a 3.75 is what I'd give it, rounding up to 4.
There was like one song i liked. It was too slow and long for me to stay interested when the songs never reached heights worth caring for. Her voice is good and I can appreciate not sticking to her earlier styles but this just wasn't it
There's not a real miss on the album, the worst it gets is "OK" for a couple songs, but the rest is snoop and the supporting cast at their best. I really love the g funk and 90s gangster rap vibes. It's a one of a kind album that only snoop could have released.
Weird album. Some songs I really enjoyed, like the finale, but others were barely listenable. Initial rating my not reflect how I feel if I give this album a couple more chances.
For all u2 albums I have to remember to separate my feelings of the band presently to what they were. This is not the same band that forced their album on my mom's iPhone which autoconnects to blu tooth speakers and starts playing by default, driving my resentment further with every listen. The opening tracks on this album are incredible - worthy of of being the first three tracks on a greatest hits album. I don't think the album reaches the same heights again, which always sucks when the start is so good, but it never loses its footing. The lyrics remain poetic in nature, the rhythm driving the band forward and The Edge's™️ guitar fluctuating between a more classic rock sound, and an effect pedal board layered perfectly to give each song it's distinctive feel. I don't think this is a perfect album, but I'll round up a 4.5
Idk kind of a perfect classic rock album. Almost every song on here is super good.
Pleasantly surprised with this one. Calm and dreamy the album passed by quickly and worked great as something to listen to while I was doing some stuff. I really like it's combined genres. Not the most unique or attention grabbing but it was solid.
I wanted to like this one, but everytime I started to enjoy a song the style switched up in some belty piece that didn't it. This is a 2.5 to me rounded down cause of the disappointment.
I mean it's got two great songs and is kind of music that plays at your drunk uncles BBQ. Not bad but not good 2.75 rounded up
4.5 rounded down. Love the dark feelings with some lighter tracks thrown in there. It feels like there are many layers to unpeel for each track. Haven't listened to this album in 10 and forgot how much I enjoyed it. I don't care for the "I want to fuck" lyrics that show up a few times but I'm not normally a lyrics person when the music is so dense. I just like to ~~~feel~~~~ it
Got a couple good songs on there but the 80's sound just blended together after a while. I think the hits on this album show you don't need to do all of that to write good songs. I'll give this another go since I did enjoy a lot of the songs individually, just not as a complete run time.
Wow this was great. Really good song writing and his voice adds so much to their meanings. I wasn't expecting to like this one so much!
Really good pop album. Their harmony is superb and there's a deep understanding from everyone involved on how to get people dancing and singing along. While it's not an album im going to be listening to on my own that doesn't change the fact they cooked with this one. Arrival is definitely going into a Playlist and I'll be listening to that song a lot. By far my favorite track. It's like a 4.5 rounded up for me.
Fuck this guy. I really wanted to hate this album but even when he's whining and talking like an incel he writes better songs than a lot of the garbage out there. Reluctant 2.75
I couldn't get into this one. There's some good songs in there, but it never captured my attention outside of the hits
This is about as peak rock and roll as you get. Energetic, loud, memorable riffs with some great solos that tie together catchy songs. There's not a single miss on the album and you can listen through the entire thing while feeling like you're flying on a tiger made of lightening pissing on the world as you soar towards victory.
Don't really have to explain this one.
It's always funny when the frontman is by far the worst part of the band. Flea and frusciante really push every song with their skill and Smith really locks in with flea to hold down the rythym. Keidis' lyrics are pretty nonsensical a lot of the time, but to his credit, when it works it works. When it doesn't it comes off as rather cringey. He also is not a great singer. However, this album features plentiful hits and highlights their ability as a band to write a great album, and demonstrate how the sum can be greater than it's parts.
Listening to this is like eating oatmeal with no fruit, milk, or honey. Gruel. It's not offensively bad music but it has no personality and I don't understand how it's on this list.
