Who Killed...... The Zutons?
The ZutonsMeh. There were a few tracks I liked, but others that oddly annoyed me
Meh. There were a few tracks I liked, but others that oddly annoyed me
No thank you
Solid through and through. Shout out to Willie Dixon
Some really good stuff on this album, although too much I just wanna skip past to give it any higher than 3/5
Meh. There were a few tracks I liked, but others that oddly annoyed me
Soooo solid. Legit 5 star French hip hop… although 4.3 US stars when you apply the exchange rate
Don't know if this is a 3 or a 4, but it’s definitely 1 star less than Paranoid… so, I listened to Paranoid and gave it a 5. Guess this is a 4?
Don't remember this album being like 15% intros and skits! Still great, but not quite a 5
Kool Keith/Dr. Octagon/Dr. Doom, you a bad mofo! I remember when this came out, if you didnt know, it was like you really didn't get hip hop (high school kids are judgey!). He's like the Finnegan's Wake of hip hop. Either you love it or don't get it
Delightfully average. Solid 3
I like Prince sooo much more than I like Prince’s music. He's made some really good stuff, but the majority is just meh to me
Never listened to a full Neil Young album. Was good, although nothing particularly remarkable
I feel surprisingly close to giving this a 5. Not my style, but this album planted one of the many seeds that became 90s alt rock, which feels pretty important, plus there's some real good songs here and it's solid from beginning to end, but still can't do it. Quantifying the qualitative is just tough, and I have to go with my gut over my brain when it comes to music. Solid 4
For some of these tracks, I would have enjoyed reading the lyrics more than listening to the actual songs
Game changing. Literally the first commercial album comprised entirely of samples. You couldn't even buy anything like this at the record store until DJ Shadow came around
I'll acknowledge that this is music, although I don't have the ability to determine good from bad in this genre. All sounds the same, and I hope I never have to listen to this album again
I know the hits, although never listened to a full album. I could have done without that
If you don't think this is a 5 star album then you’s a penguin-lookin’ motherfucker
This was great. Such a fun album from a really cool point in hip hop history. Miss radio shows :(
Musical equivalent of petting an old cat. Enjoyable, a little redundant and unexciting, although still perfectly fine
First few songs I felt like turning it off and coming back to it. Didn't think it was bad, just didn't feel like there was much to it and just wasn't in the mood to push through something I really didn't like for the sake of exploring new music. However, I'm glad I listened all the way through; there's some good stuff here. I am the Resurrection and Fools Gold ended this album on a high note. So solid. Definitely going to listen again
Angry Cube is dabest Cube
No clue if it's true, but can't help but feel like Dan the Automator used more than 1 sample from this album to create the Dr. Octagonecologyst
Good album, and thank you, Mr. Cash, for making it OK to sing about something “dark”. You changed American music
Thank you for existing, you influenced so many other musicians, and I'm glad I listened to this album, although once was enough. Simplistic and sterile like a cold steel butcher’s table. What music would be if nobody had a soul. Or perhaps I just don't get it…
That album sounded like my Spotify history, it was genre-diverse, although also sounded like nothing in my Spotify history. Jazzy in spots, folk rock throughout, some blues vibes, hints of chamber music, and even the occasional surprise sitar. Probably enjoyed it a little extra because it was new to me, but that was a super fun listen.
Monk has more than one 5 star album, and this is at least 4.5, so I'm rounding up. Sonny Rollins on sax, 5 songs, no let up, everyone gets a chance to do their thing. Just look at the album cover…
Patti Smith vibes, just not as good
Nothing wrong with pavement, although also nothing special. Much like actual pavement
Good album, probably 4 stars, but can't get over how underwhelming the opening track is. Fela Kuti would have been disappointed
Peak album from a band that was the best at what they did
There was a time when this would have been an unquestionable 5 stars from me, and that would have been the case if I didn't relisten to the album. Maybe it's age, maybe I should have been day drinking while listening to this? Either way, there's a lot to appreciate here, just doesn't feel 5 stars
Knew the hits and that was it, had no idea they were this good. Great album
Not the album to get into after a day of baseball, drinking, and sunshine, although just about right for the morning after. Glad I gave it a second chance. Did I hear cello? Glockenspiel? This is really well put together. Not something I'll likely go back to, but I can really appreciate what they put into this. Rounding up to 4 stars
The soundtrack for Ireland if Disney added it to Epcot…
Absolute game-changer. Before 36 Chambers, samples were limited to James Brown, Funkadelic, etc., then along comes RZA and you get Thelonious Monk, Barbara Streisand, etc., even Dick Van Dyke! Literally made the entire record store fodder for new music. Besides the beats and solid rhymes, you can't over look the unique production approach. As gritty and authentic as ODB! RZA is the Steve Albini of hip hop
…the soundtrack to movie I don't want to see
OK, have to acknowledge the influence these guys had on 80s punk and beyond. Heard of Magazine, mostly referenced by other musicians, although never explored their stuff myself. Not bad. The album rocks, although vocals detract a little bit. Also, found it odd to find out Barry Adamson was in the band. If I ignore my own musical tastes, this is 4 stars
A few good tracks, but mostly a collection of the worst Velvet Underground songs
That was great. How haven't I heard this before?
Great album. Four women is an amazing tune. Listened to this with a 19 year old black cat sitting on my lap, who seemed to dig it on a different level, although we both appreciated how the instruments complimented and didn't overwhelm the vocals. Perfect arrangement for a lazy Sunday afternoon
Steve McQueen would not approve
Passin' Me By is such a classic it pushes this up to 4 star
Good, but definitely not a great album. I Can See for Miles is noteworthy, although the rest is just OK
Don't even get into metal and I know Roots is a better Sepultura album
