Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
The Flaming LipsEnjoyed this...though did not attempt to complete the 100-song, 7+ hour "deluxe" version.
Enjoyed this...though did not attempt to complete the 100-song, 7+ hour "deluxe" version.
Solid...hard to believe this came out in 1971.
Love Geddy and the boys, but this one is a bit disjointed...on the fence between 2 and 3 but will give them the benefit of the doubt.
A glimpse of better things to come, but not their best work.
Amazing collection of well-written songs. Not a bad one in the bunch.
Had never heard of the artist or the album. Interesting...liked it.
Liked the songs, though it was tough to hear his voice for that song.
Not really much of a rap fan, but really enjoyed it.
Solid but nothing special.
Enjoyed most of it more than I thought I would.
A bunch of pointless noise. Didn't like it at all.
A few great songs...but didn't think the rest of the album was anything special.
A few average songs, but liked it overall.
Expected I would like this more than I did. A couple of good songs, but pretty average overall.
Obviously knew the hits from this album but had never listened to the whole thing (blaming it on the fact that it came out when my first kid was in diapers). Was surprised how much I enjoyed the rest of it...would definitely listen to it again. Learned a lot about the sibling feud too (https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/liam-gallagher-vs-noel-gallagher-oasis-brothers-beef-history-explained-206050/) 4 stars
Always thought "Cars" was mediocre at best...and that's the best song on the album. Too many of the songs sound alike...way too much electronica for my tastes.
Obviously knew the hits, but enjoyed the other songs as well. Great album.
Not a big Springsteen fan, but hard to deny that this is a great album.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Not horrible, but not great either.
Had never heard of this guy before. Interesting, but found it pretty average overall except for the album length (91 minutes!).
Just OK.
Interesting...liked it more than I thought I would.
A lot of noise with no seeming connection from one song to the next.
Had never heard of this album and never hope to again. No idea what I was listening to.
Really enjoyed it...especially after some of the duds we had to listen to earlier in the week.
Thought it held up reasonably well.
Started out strong but faded a bit after that.
Not horrible, but not very good either.
Had never listened to this before. The roots of classic rock...still sounds great. 4
Not something I would normally listen to, but wasn't bad.
Some great songs to give it a strong 3...but not quite enough overall for me to give it a 4.
Did not enjoy listening to this...not cohesive at all.
One giant hit...but not much more.
Enjoyed it, but seemed a bit repetitive.
Don't recall ever listening to this album before...amazing collection of songs. I recall "Scarborough Fair" being one of the songs I had to play for my piano lessons...probably around 1975 or so.
Nothing spectacular, but solid.
Interesting...liked most of it. Strong 3.
If I want to listen to a nightclub singer for 75 minutes, I'll just go to the nightclub. My memory of Waits from his Letterman appearances is that he was kind of a weird guy. This album fits with that perception.
Had never listened to the whole album...thoroughly enjoyed it. Felt like I was in "rock church"...especially during "Personal Jesus".
Had hoped for more from the songs I didn't already know...found them underwhelming.
Not anything I would normally listen to. Beautiful voice...great album.
Ok...just not a fan of the genre. Did enjoy the lyrics to "Milky Cereal"... So we went to be alone But we had to be quiet, 'cause her corn pops was home Kissed her neck, kissed her back, kissed her arms I said "Forget it, let me see your lucky charms."
Had never listened to the entire album before. Thoroughly enjoyed it...but a bit too repetitive at times.
I'm guessing this is considered a classic, but the songs all sound the same after a few of them.
Solid classic rock...but a bit repetitive at times.
Any album with both "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" has to be at least a 4.
Enjoyed this...though did not attempt to complete the 100-song, 7+ hour "deluxe" version.
Nice easy listening. Don't recall ever seeing an album with only two songs before.
Interesting from a historical perspective with glimpses of the brilliance that would follow...but not a great album. Doubtful they would have evolved in the same way if Syd Barrett hadn't departed due to his mental health issues...
Really enjoyed it. So simple but so pleasant to listen to.
Thought I would like it more than I did. Not a big fan of her voice.
Just OK...nothing special.
Made me feel like taking a nap.
23 love songs was enough.
Not my thing, but very nice.
Really strong album overall with several classic hits.
Not sure if I'd heard of this band before...enjoyed the album.
Had never heard of these guys before. Found the album interesting but just ok.
I think of Roxy Music as an 80's band...had no idea they were cranking stuff out in 1972. I guess it took them a while to figure it out...wasn't crazy about the album.
Still sounds great. Can almost imagine myself at CBGB...
Decent album, but I expected to like this more than I did.
I'm not usually a big Neil Young fan, but I really enjoyed this album. Will definitely give it another listen at some point.
Wow, that woke me up...but a 22 minute album? Not enough quantity or quality.
More country influence than I was expecting...but still enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
A bit repetitive at times but was much more listenable than I expected.
Solid, but the Dylan voice and the harmonica get a bit repetitive.
Not horrible, but just not my thing.
I really liked her song "Human Behaviour" back in the day...but this album is a little bit out there.
Not something I would normally listen to, but I enjoyed it...does sound a bit repetitive on occasion.
About what I expected...solid but nothing spectacular.
Undeniably lovely...just not my thing.
Listen to this one often...one of my all time favorites. Love the variety and complexity, and every song is unique.
Didn't recognize any of the songs but thoroughly enjoyed it...would listen to it again.
Don’t think I had ever listened to a full Hendrix album before…enjoyed it.
Definitely the first time I've ever listened to an entire Michael Jackson album in one sitting... A couple of his early hits, but found the rest of the album underwhelming. Thriller it is not...
Oh, yeah...
Good old time rock and roll...fun album. Could easily have heard some of these songs in "School of Rock".
Interesting sounds at times, but not something I would ever listen to intentionally.
Not horrible...just not my thing.
The Pretenders rarely disappoint...one of the most underappreciated bands from that era.
Sounded like a weird fusion of country and Lawrence Welk with vocals by Ray Charles.
Would never listen to this on my own but found it very pleasant.
Not sure why this album resonated with me, but I really liked it. Had never knowingly listened to Ryan Adams but will start sampling his stuff more often.
Nothing wrong with it, but not much of a country fan.
That Clapton guy is pretty good at playing the guitar.
Solid album with multiple hits. Will listen to it again.
I appreciate the quality of the music...but I find it so hard to rate music from other eras. The older stuff just doesn't hit me the same way...
Love their edge, and somehow their songs don't sound repetitive.
Not my style, but at least there's some resemblance of actual music here.
Not something I would regularly listen to, but have to give appropriate respect to one of the defining albums and artists of the early 70s.
Split down the middle but will round up due to the presence of several all-time classics.
Had never heard of Scott Walker. Different...but no idea what that was. "I was still just a kid When my innocence was lost In a mobile army whorehouse Gift of the army, free of cost Next, you're next" Had to laugh at the last sentence of his bio on Apple Music: Walker blurs the line between the showman and the defiant songwriter who knows more about his subjects than he lets on.
Well-crafted album from a gifted songwriter. Could never sing "Rednecks" today.
Expected to completely hate this...but much to my surprise, I actually kind of enjoyed it. Can appreciate the quality within its genre.
Solid...still holds up over 50 years later.
Really enjoyed it...guess I should be listening to more Britpop.
Dude, too many of your songs sound the same. And stay away from my daughters.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but really nothing memorable after the first song.
Underwhelming.
This is one of those albums that immediately transports me back to a particular time and place whenever I hear it...one of the defining albums of the 90s.
Just starting to round into form...but not quite there yet.
Not horrible, but not what I would choose to listen to. The songs all started to sound the same after a while...
Ok, but a little too plain for my tastes.
Ok...nothing special.
Several big hits, and like most of the other songs too.
Man, he sure loves to hear himself talk. I don't get the appeal.
Appreciate her talent...just not my thing.
Nope. Absolutely not.
I've listened to this album multiple times and want to really like it...but I just can't. I like their first three albums so much more...
Just OK.
More country vibes than I typically like, but really enjoyed this album start to finish.
I tried, but a country double album was more than I could take...only made it about halfway through the first album. Just not my thing.
Not horrible...just not my thing.
Don't think I've ever listened to anything by John Grant. He's obviously a very talented songwriter, but this isn't something I would routinely listen to.
Respect...3 of the 7 songs on the album are all time classics.
This is what I imagine is playing in the background at a cocaine-fueled rave.
Not enjoyable.
Really interesting. I'm not really into electronica, but I really enjoyed this and would listen to it again.
Not a huge fan of Coldplay's more recent lean toward pop, but this older one is a fantastic album.
One hit song does not make a great album...the rest of it was pretty forgettable.
A couple of great pop songs, but was disappointed in the rest of the album.
Not bad...not great.
Just ok...nothng bad, but nothing really memorable either.
Appreciate the education on Indian music, but it didn't do much for me.
Sounded like they were still trying to figure out what they wanted to be.
Great album...only complaint is that it doesn't have the variety and complexity of some of the later Beatles albums. It still amazes me how prolific they were in such a short period of time...
Had never listened to a Taylor Swift album before this. I'm impressed...a master class in pop music.
Just ok.
Great album. Multiple classics, and loved the blues tunes as well.
Had heard "Get Free" before but wasn't familiar with them otherwise. Solid rock album.
Had never heard of them. Not a fan. Sounded like the soundtrack from an off Broadway musical.
Interesting. Don't think I'd listen to it very often, but enjoyed it nonetheless.
Hadn't listened to this in a long time. Holds up well.
Genius. Hard to believe they did this in 1967.
Can't figure it out how to describe this, but would never willingly listen to it.
Tough to follow up the greatest album of all time, but a worthy effort. Still a great album.
A couple of classics, but I was underwhelmed by the rest of it.
Iconic 90s album.
Don't think I'd ever listened to the whole album from start to finish. Good stuff.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would…
Didn't enjoy this...sounded rather depressing
Had never heard of them. Enjoyed it...pleasing sound but never dull.
Solid with a couple of major hits.
Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Sounds better today to me than it did back in the day.
Solid.
Solid but a little repetitive.
Had never heard of them. Fits well with the early 80s timeline, but pretty forgettable.
Not bad...but just OK.
