Rusholm Ruffians reminded me of The Drums, but less catchy. Damn near put me to sleep, lead singer sounds lazy in a boring way. I caught a glimpse of the singer from that band "Hers" who I absolutely adore and could hear some similarities, but overall this album bore me. There was a reason why I haven't listened to this band until now. Couldn't get into it then, and can't get into it now. Maybe some other time or album.
For being indie pop, this was pretty boring. Felt unenthusiastic. Production-wise, great, but man it feels like there isn't anything here of substance. The best song on here is On Hold for me, and even then, I would give it a 3. Album rating overall, 2 stars.
Alot of the same, focus is mainly on sax for sure, not a strong presence of singer voice or variation really. Have to look into why the Ipanema song got so popular. Music sounds like coffee shop music, or like hotel lobby music.
Right up my alley, having only heard Take Me Out, the rest of the album had me head nodding during work. Solid album, didn't know this was after the strokes breakout. I'm kind of visualizing this as the scottish's response to the arctic monkeys.
A lengthy listen, none bad, but also none stood out. Not many sound changes in this one, so when listening all the way through, most songs sound the same.
Haven't heard of Sarah before, really loved her voice!
When kiedis sings and holds a note most chords sounds the same, solid album with great hits on it, would give 3.5
Overly repetitive with beats and no major changes over time, felt like I was listening to the first 16 measures of house music that don't change, that combined with a poorly mixed vocals that were drowned out by said repetitive beats, I just didn't enjoy listening to this.
Cool discovery, reminded me of Elton John's music, didn't know this was where the lime and the coconut came from, or without you was a cover and this was the original.
Don't think I consider myself a blues rock enjoyer, but some songs on here are great. Nothing I'd add to my daily rotation or favorites, but I'd pick up a vinyl to enjoy listening to it again.
Where has this album been? This completely flew under my radar, and will definitely be listening to more music from Michael. Absolute banger of an opener on here!
Listening to the album in its entirety feels like it was a miracle that tainted love got so popular, most songs felt like a fever dream. I honestly haven't laughed as hard to a song as much as Sex Dwarf, felt like it was straight out of an SNL skit or from Lonely Island.
Random thoughts throughout the album Track #2, no bones sounds like lead singer is whining. For 1988 I'm surprised at how developed some of the guitar parts are. Energy from Don't surprised me, was not expecting legit screaming. Never heard of this band, will look into their wikipedia on why they made it to this 1001 albums list.
I can't seem to get into Radiohead I don't understand them to me they sound pretentious there's some good tracks off of this but nothing that wowed me I must have missed the era or I must be missing something for them to be so generally liked
Something about Bobs voice that sounds effortless, mixed that with the laid back swing of reggae and you get a very laid back album. Not a fan of the genre, but this was a decent listen overall
Everyone says they listen to just about everything except country, I think this is an excellent counterpoint album to show to people who have this opinion. Almost all the songs on here were catchy, and definitely didn't reflect the cadence and vibe of a 21st century country piece. Solid album, the vocal range within Streets of Laredo was a real surprise.
Despite the album art, sonically its surprisingly upbeat Haven't heard of this singer or the czars before. Entertaining listen for sure, wasn't bad, nor exceptional 3.5 stars if I could rate in decimals on this site
Couldn't get the overall appeal for this album, to me, it sounded like a person who made an album that hasn't honed in on their sound and hasn't quite figured out what they're going for. I did enjoy a single song off this though and it was "The First Taste", so the album wasn't a complete wash. Perhaps its because its the most pop sounding tracks.
Procrastinated for a couple days on this one since I had listened to another Bob Marley album. Not the biggest fan of Reggae so this one felt like more of a chore to listen to, but someones review pointed out the band as a whole and not just Bob, so I honed in on the band for most of the album and it made the listening experience more tolerable. The band itself is absolutely locked in with playing and sounds exceptional. I gave Exodus a 3, I'd give this one a 3 as well based on the band.
The musician in me is saying "hell yeah this is excellently written" but the person in me who just enjoys good sounding music isn't getting along with this sound. This didn't really capture me, and his voice felt whiny and average.
This dudes got girls screaming in the recording Great voice, great energy, loved the falsetto and overall range of BB, this was a solid listen from a person who doesn't actively listen to blues or jazz equivalents.
Great listen, I have not listed to many Aerosmith songs, let alone a whole album. I see now why Guitar Hero made a whole game just on this band's songs. Listening to the album as a whole, it doesn't seem like a single song drags. And all tracks have an implied feeling of being driven forward without stopping almost like a train.
a bit dry this one, and put me in a sleepy mood. Reminded me of daft punk but at .25x speed. Not all electric has to be upbeat, but man the motifs were just not appealing in this one.
First Hendrix album, solid listen, nothing really stood out to me, but at the same time, nothing sounded bad or terrible. If there's more than 1 Bob Marley album in this list, there's bound to be more Hendrix and I look forward to listening to more.
Great thing about doing this daily album listening is recognizing popular songs from these bands that you've listened to, but never bothered to look more into the band as a whole. I had no idea that these guys sang the whale wars theme song. Entertaining album, previously, based on the band name, I thought this was some screamo band, pleasant surprise of a rock album to listen to with good variety of tracks.
Genuine hate for this one. I don't get it. I love my fair share of sad and depressing songs to enhance my depression, but this was far from my taste.
A bit repetitive after the first 3 songs, great energy can't deny that and despite the recording quality, I'm sure it sounded great live
Solid bumpers on this album, a true rap classic.
Quaint little album, production didn't sound crazy which led to its simplicity, no complaints on this album. I'd give a 3.5 if possible, will round to 4 since it was a nice listen.
Strong start to an album all with a solid sound, however, it felt like in the latter half it got more experimental and I lost interest since it wasn't what I was expecting. Collectively a 2/5, had they kept the momentum and consistency of the sounds within the first couple of songs it would've been a solid 3.
This sounded like a devolved version of Phonk. I'll have to look into the history of it and see if its actually the case, or if phonk carries heavy influence from these roots. The album overall was barren, I kept waiting for some chord structure to hit me, but by song 2 realized this was mainly a bongo centric album. I couldn't find anything on how much this influenced the world, or at least the wiki didn't note anything.
Shake Me Through walked so Take On Me by A-Ha could Run, similarity is a bit uncanny TF is happening in the end of We Walk? the sound of a muffled pool table game? Overall a boring album, I want to say its mainly because the lead singer's voice isn't unique, guitar patterns are a little repetitive and can easily get you into a lull.
Sounded fantastic, enjoyed this listen all the way through.
Going through alot of firsts in this 1001 journey, this was my first Led Zeppelin album and I gotta say I've been missing out a little bit, a more than average lengthy listen here, with its ups and downs, but I'd say solid 4 stars here. I enjoyed it.
Separating art from artist, 5 star album, 1 star person. Dude needs help, desperately. My favorite of his albums.
Nothing spectacular here, this sounded worse than the other Neil Young album I listened to before this, Harvest. Another solid 2 stars for Mr. Young here.
Solid, besides Mr. blue sky, I had heard of Telephone line from another album of theirs and was expecting greatness and was not disappointed, alot of variety in sounds which all sound cheery and good. Really good sounding band all round.
Don't understand the hype behind this band, first time listener and it was alright. Growing up you hear a bunch of names thrown around of all time greatest bands, and the rolling stones are consistently among the highest ranked. With this album and sound, I just couldn't see it, its good, but not great sounding to me.
Understood why they headlined coachella a few years back. Have never heard of this band prior to the headline announcement, thought the festival sold out and was headlining a new sound system. Great sounding album, had enough variety to keep me engaged, and some parts of it were really catchy without being annoying.
Some good tracks scattered here and there, rhythmically not stale either despite the instrumentation not sounding too varied. Never heard of this band before, but am curious if there is another of their album on this list of 1001.
Expected alot from this artist, but sadly this album didn't deliver. Nothing in particular stood out, which means it wasn't good nor bad. Hopefully theres another prince album that'll meet the expectations that have been set by word of mouth.
This was a rough listen. The most vanilla, plain jane, inoffensive music I've listened to. Have never heard of this guy before, but everyone is saying he's a huge douche? I'm just here for the music, and man I don't want to be here for this. This dude moaning in "nobody girl" ????
Got real nervous on what he was gonna rhyme with triggers, I was on the edge of my seat the entirety of that song. Some real quirky songs on here, hand in hand, hand in hand, hand in hand, hand in hand, hand in hand Man, singing a whole album in this voice sounds so straining, it gets a bit tiring after 3 songs. With each passing ending that just repeats the song name over and over, my anxiety goes up, it feels like I'm stuck in a time loop every time it happens.
Haven't heard of this band before, gave me ELO vibes, which I did enjoy.
I regret not listening to Wu-Tang in the past, hoping for more in the album generator list, Method Man was by far my favorite song from this.
Always interesting to hear music that released the year you were born, this indie rock album sounded pretty standard to me. Not much wrong, but also not really attention grabbing.
Went into this confusing the band's name with the Killers and was genuinely confused when the first track played. This album was solid, at times it sounded like I was listening to the Black Keys but with more of a blues influence.
Knew of this band's existence, but man they lack a presence or solid sound, dope name though. Latter half of Ocean of Noise sounded awesome but the rest of the tracks just felt empty and void of personality. I'm thinking its the lead singer, his style is just not for me, its a sort of whisper yell, and its not unique enough to stand out. I really enjoyed the outro of No Cars Go too. The album should've ended there.
A symphonic, theatrical fever dream, agree with most of the sentiment that David was improving here. This was very theatre kid sounding, very grandiose sounding, the over enunciation of lyrics, its all there. Not my preference, entertained me for 40 min, but not worth a look back imo.
Not much on notes, this was great, and for the 70s? Speechless with how good was this
Didn't understand this one. By far the strangest album in terms of cohesion. Wiki states a music critic stating this album was the start of a more mediational calm sound in the electronic genre, and that may have been profound at the time, but having not lived during that or felt a direct impact to my music listening life, I can't seem to be appreciative of it.
Sounded okay to me, the more I listened the more I hated the lead singer's voice. Felt similar to listening to Nickelback and eventually I tried to tune out the lead singer's voice. Its unique and all, but after a while its so tiring to listen to.
Talk about your old school cool, sounded good, but kinda lost me at the end, it ended up sounding like yelling in tune for me there. I enjoyed it overall.
Sounded like Macho Man Randy Savage serenading me. Forgetful, plain, and somehow sounded very unique. Such a rare combo. EDIT: Certain surprise was certainly surprising, the only decent song in the album because we're not hearing someone straining to sing.
Band name matches exactly how I thought they'd sound. I can make an equivalent modern day comparison, this is almost like Clown Core but in the 80s. Clown Core, but make it rock instead of jazz.
Walked into this blind, what a fakeout the first track is. I thought I was in for 50 minutes of Ren faire background music. Still on the first track, HOW MANY SOUNDS CAN THEY INCORPORATE INTO A SONG?! Aggressively Bri'ish during the battle of epping forest. No notes for the rest of songs, it brought energy when it needed to, and only lost me during the 3 longer songs. I think the 3 lengthy songs after the opener were a bit redundant. Overall a 4.
Did not offend, nor wow me. I understand its musical significance, but compared to music today, its not something I'd be adding to any playlists.
Type of music you'd here in the background of a cartoon when there's no dialogue, and its going from scene to scene showing the passing of time of their day to day life, or maybe some silly antics with the main characters friends. Most songs sound the same since its the same instrumentation, in the end all songs ended up blending together.
Pretty alright, didn't expect to jam out as much in the first couple of songs, but they were solid. Can't pin why I Holy Man sounded so familiar, but it just felt like I had listened to it before? Perhaps its from a sample.
For being indie pop, this was pretty boring. Felt unenthusiastic. Production-wise, great, but man it feels like there isn't anything here of substance. The best song on here is On Hold for me, and even then, I would give it a 3. Album rating overall, 2 stars.
Bit formulaic when it comes to chorus, pre-chorus, bridge. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five was my favorite track, awesome ending...until they took it back to the opening track. I always thought the lyric was Man on the Run, need to sit down a bit after realizing that I've been wrong all this time.
This album felt like a large wave of noise, with just 1 song to allow for breathing room. Sounded decent overall.
Sounded like old teenage angst and loud noises. This felt more like a chore to listen to and at points very hard to decipher, dissect, and listen.
This album overall reminded me of JC + the Voidz, but this one included more interludes, and made even less sense than the Voidz. Feeling a decent 3 here.
Been on a listening streak of just "meh" albums, so to hear this was a welcome surprise. Absolutely dig the guitar on that first track, don't know what they're using, but man the sound of it makes me want more guitar leading songs, or perhaps a solo or two. It's just so clear and concise sounding. Overall solid album, the guitarist did the heavy lifting here.
brb gonna go get married in order to come up with Grounds for Divorce, what a song, and what solid, great sounding album. I haven't heard of this band before trying to nail down the genre of this band off the first couple tracks was interesting. The melancholy bits here and there somehow reminded me of Guster. Fun first time listen for sure. Giving this a high 4.
Groovy in the beginning, lost me towards the end. Was aight.
