Actually really good - B side a little more somber. But this is a really solid record. I have this odd view of Beck and don't think i've eveer truly appreciated the artistry. He's been rocking it forEVER.
Wish I could give half stars because it's absolutely a 3.5. BUT i'll give it a 4 because I unexpectedly enjoyed it.
Fav Tracks: Guess I'm doing Fine, Golden Age
Did not fully listen and give it the chance it deserves - but respect the artistry for sure
Don't tempt me with a good time
I've never been a huge Jack White guy. Resepct the game and the hustle, but it was always just 'noise' to me with some decent lyrics. There were a handful of decent tracks here. I actually think I liked the B side a lot more. Especially the back half
This, the smiths, and all that has never really been my vibe. Once again, respect the artistry - but not something i'd pick out at a record shop and spin at home in my free time.
But respect to the project - i'm going to give everything the listen it deserves
Honestly - this was pretty awesome. I wasn't reeeeeally into the first track but Pressure point on was really great. Turns out I knew Pressure point already from MVP Baseball 05'. But definitely never a band I looked into when i was 13.
Front to back really dope. The vinyl pressing for this is rare as hell apparently - $200 a pop
I'll stand by this - Rehab sucks. Not the place - the song. SO many other better tracks on here to put as the lead. You can bury Rehab on the B-side. I know it's unpopular. But that's just like my opinion, man.
But other than that really great 60's soul inspired music. Hard to hate
I didn't want to like it - but this is a fuckin bop and a half. Wow. Do i kind of want to buy this? at least the A side? yes...yes i do...
I stand by my thoughts - the tail end of the B side, though ripping with a horn solo, does lose you a bit. Just comparatively speaking.
But damn - she was a hit. Do i dig deeper into the catalog? Only time will tell.
Shoutout Jimmy Jamm and Terry Lewis.
I mean literally always.
It's just undeniably one of the greatest albums literally ever. Start to finish it's just so fluid. I'll never forget the first time I ever heard it and just how much I gravitated towards it.
Brain Damage --> Eclipse is just one of the smoothest transitions in all of music. If that were just one song it might honestly be my favorite track of all time
It's got a little bit of everything in here. Starts off with an absolute ripper in River Song. Pacific Ocean Blues is the first track I ever heard off of this - probably about 5-10 years ago at this point.
Its a little all over the place - but then you peel it back and realize this is his only album....of course you're gonna have a little bit of everything in there. Some ballads, some bops, some jams.
Overall definitely into it - but i wish it were a little tighter and more succinct
Lyrically this is actually fantastic - i don't overly love the instrumentation. But his lyrics are absolutely incredible which really pumps the value up here. He doesn't get the love for Hallelujah(not on here) probably because of the Rufus Wainwright, and more importantly, Jeff Buckley renditions. But I think a Lenny Cohen, Neil Young collab could've been really cool(if that exists i might not be aware of it)
Overall solid
I normally don't gravitate towards big band....but not to say I'm not into it. But this was really awesome. The first track definitely din't pull me in...but the rest absolutely had me going. Great driving music, really thought provoking stuff. How is that possible without lyrics? Well music is just funny like that. It doesn't need to literally ask you a question in order to get the juices flowing.
Respect to Count. An all-timer forever and always
First track in and it's already sitting at a 2.
But for the most part - this is just a lot of noise. Would've used a track from this in a 00's movie with some wild chase scene of a kid stealing a camcorder from Circuit City and outrunning the security on foot before he stole somebody's skateboard, promising to give it back later(he never does).
Final verdict - 3. Wish i could do half stars because it really is a 2.5 I'm being generous because i listened to Oasis after.
Comparing them to Nirvana is a stretch...like i get it? But still a stretch especially on their first album. Also, i really want to listen to Oasis after this... is that a compliment? I agree with the masses - not really sure why this is on this list. But whatever!
I absolutely respect it - but i feel like Jack recyles a lot of sounds throughout his artists now. I think Lana started it - so i'm going to say everybody is just copying that style...at least to a degree.
Not realy my taste - but a solid listen
HUGE traffic fan so i'll give it some extra love. This was very ok - good background music, i guess?
Uhhhhh.....this is an album? There's like 45 second songs that sound like rough demos rather than anything else.
Not into it at all. Just a lot of noise. Not it, not even a little bit. Sounds like something that is played at that really overpriced record store and you just think to yourself "i can't believe people listen to stuff like this". But they're just playing it because it's 'cool'. Different yeah, for sure. But cool? Good? No thanks. Some songs are honestly ok. Closer you are should be a full length song. not 2 minutes. For those that like it - good for you. You're cooler than me I guess
Some really good tracks on here. Really solid album. Sit yourself down is a lowkey awesome song that doesn't get the love the other bigger hits do.
I mean the names featured on here are just wild. Stills, Jimi, Clapton, Booker T, Ringo, Graham Nash. Yes they're all separated - but that's elite pull.
Very solid 3. maybe 3.5 to be nice but i think i do that a lot. i love that they all have that one album that just bops for them individually. CSN&Y are a true super group to the absolute core.
No listening notes, huh? Hm. Well let's not read too much into that. Really solid record. I am trying to break your heart is such a great track - but I actually think his acoustic version is FAR better. Genuinely - i've listened to that track like 5 dozen times. Jesus is objectively dope. Pot Kettle Black is an absolute banger of a track.
Jeff truly is a master songwriter and I don't think gets the love he deserves in the modern day songwriting sphere. I mean he's been writing for 25+ years and still churns em out. His last full length album has a few really great tracks on there - though I don't think the album got a ton of love.
Overall - really solid 4. Good and easy listening
So this is an interesting one - I actually love Elvis. I really love a ton of his earlier stuff - way before the jumpsuits and all that come with it. I have immense respect for the artistry and the way he absolutely revolutionized fanbases in music. Women fainting at the swivel of his hips...like what? Broke all the rules and norms there ever were. This is....fine. I do like Live Elvis tracks a lot..especially his comeback special he did. SO MUCH HEAT in there. This is ok. I'll sit with it but it feels like a 2 or 3. Once again - would love to give a half star. It's probably a 3 knowing my appreciation for the man
You can definitely see the unique style beginning to come into it's own. Funny how most haven't listened to full queen albums - solid 3.
I love Frank. Big NJ guy. Love Jobim....but this didn't really land with me. Felt like a focred collab
Honestly - never really took the time to listen to Franz Ferdinand. Or at least in depth. That was a rock solid record - i get it. Really good driving rock, nice melodies, not too overproduced. Deserves another listen to give it my full notes and maybe a deeper dive into the catalog...eyes....
Unemorable really. I don't love it, i don't hate it. It'll go down to me as just some more noise. Not quire sure how this made it on the list - but it didn't really do anything for me.
HERE WE GO! Overall that was really awesome. "Heaven is" is quite awesome - really spacial sounds to it.
I'll never forget the first time I heard Boogie On Reggae Woman. I was 17 years old and thought i just discovered gold. It's a fun experience 'discovering new music' when it's actually older than you are. It's a timeless digging of gems - and that's what that felt like to me. I added it to my ipod(yes, my ipod) and showed it to my good friend and we bopped out to it for a while.
Some overall really great tracks here - not everything has to be a radio hit. This was a really great record with not a ton of fanfare. Solid 4
You can definitely feel them starting to head in the funky direction - and i say that in the best way possible. Rikki is a classic, any major dude is of course a crowd favorite. But the self-titled track is probably my favorite on here. So blues and groovy.
Can't buy a thrill is still probably my favorite, AJA a very close second. Then Pretzel Logic. Such a great band - always so so so tight. Idk how people don't like SD - it makes no sense to me
I wouldn't say i've actively avoided listening to Fiona...but it's never been something i ever sought out. Nothing personal - nothing targeted. Just never really fell into sync with my listening profile. Let's see what this is about!
Ok - Criminal fuckin rips. Wow. I'm gonna play it back again because it was so good. Shadowboxer is also right up my alley.
B Side definitely does slow down a bit - but still lyrically beautiful.
Overall very surprised this falls right up my alley given that I've honestly never given it the time of day before. Could be something that i've aged into the taste, or just a classic case of I've never heard of this before!
I honestly never thought too deep about Mick Jagger's love life before. This was....surprinsgly cool. Some really early 80's feel to it(makes sense). But for something I didn't know existed - that was pretty cool.
I had to do a double take on the last track when she started getting a little...err..vulgar
Broken Englis and Guilt are friggin awesome. Sick cover of working class hero.
I literally said FUCK YEAH when i saw this pop up. Two steeley albums in a week?! i feel so spoiled!
Just a top notch album. There was one point where i had 3 records of Aja. One as a gift, one that i bought, and the other i received in a 'mystery box'. Such a tight album that pushes some really cool boundaries especially for the time. At this point they're at their peak and just being vibey and groovy and making up their own rules.
I don't even know what's my favorite here. Deacon Blues is a top contender, Aja is also really great. Just such a killer album
I've tried so hard to get into the Smiths...naturally Morrisery as well. I feel like I'd like playing some of these on my acoustic - they may jive with me more. Same with some iconic Smiths tracks. They just never really hit for me. I can't deny the songwriting and the following - it's pretty unmatched. But for now - solid 2. It's ok. I really do want to like 80's prog rock...but it just doesn't hit the way I want it to.
I can confidently say I don't even know why people hate him so much - from a quick read he does seem like a selfish a-hole. So many reviews say how much they hate him, his head is so far up his ass, they can't wait for him to croak. Upon reading into it.....FUCK this guy. So that doesn't really help with the rating haha. You always try and separate the person from the art - but it's sometimes easier said than done. This isn't something i'd ever pursue buying a pressing of.
Yeah im not remotely into this haha. i remember hearing the name now and giving them a try at some point in college, maybe even post? Just not for me at all. No other notes
This is fuckin awesome. I've genuinely never listened to this front to back before - and now i've done it twice today. I knew a hand full of tracks off of here....mainly Wake Up and Rebellion. But wow super cohesive and exactly what I wanted it to be. These guys absolutely cooked here. They call this one of the greatest modern rock albums of all-time and I totally get it.
5 Stars
What a rock solid trcord. I totally get the hype and the love this gets. Hot take. Don’t love man on the moon. Never have. Past that though, really really great
5 stars
Why the hell is this on the list? Punk Ska? Nah man i'm cool. This might be it for somebody else. but DEFINITELY not me
I mean legitmitely one of the greatest albums ever. Just top to bottom. So complete, so epic. Quincy and Mike are at the tippy fuckin top of their game here and it shows from every which way.
I bought this vinyl at a coffee shop/brewery in Brooklyn years ago for $4 and it's absolutely in the top 10 most spun records in my apartment. A true masterpiece of an album. What more is there to say?
Rippin good album. I've honestly only listened to the 'hits' but this album rocks. Lot of soul and passion behind Dusty here. I know she was a star with The Springfields, but such a sick debut album. Love the Ray Charles cover. Every Ounce of Strength is such a fuckin bop.
So hard to dislike the Band. Just about every album rips. The 'brown album' is no different
Is this gonna be another one of those 'it's just noise albums'? God i hope not...
It wasn’t. That was just ok
Woof….
Some of these you can’t help but wonder how they got on here
I'm good. Thanks though..
A side is SOOOOO good. Like insanely good. B side really just turns into a lot ominous/ambient sounds. Doesn't really hate the way I want it to especially after comnig off of such a Hot A side. But - that's ok. He's an absolute legend and this rocks. 4 starmans on this one.
*a quick wikipedia lookup immediately used the word ambiant and i feel so validated for no reason.
I don't think i can say anything that hasn't been said about this album. Opening and closing of AWESOME rock music - coupled with some of the greatest albums ever.
5/5. Pink Floyd is undeniably one of the greatest bands of all time. No questions asked.
So it turns out I knew Alright. Had no idea! But this is a surprising ripper. Super super tight. Why have i never heard of this before? A lot of head nodding happening even to the end of the record with Sofa of My Lethargy(what a track name).
I wonder if this is a band I heard of maybe in the early 2000s at summer camp but just totally forgot about. Might deserve another play through. Yeah...this was fuckin awesome. Great record. 10/10 reccomend
This was really interesting - I'm not really sure it knows what it wants to be. Some tracks I was really into the instrumentation but not really the melodies. At times it felt like a light folk record. Then at times it felt like it wanted to be this soul r&b groove. I like all of that - but I don't really think this record had a 'consistent voice'.
Not great - but not awful. A fine album to listen to on my commute in!
I looked at the album cover sand said "this looks like something that'll suck. One track in and BOY was I wrong. Nothing but rave reviews on here. I'm sorry for judging so fast. This feels pretty dope!
Wow - never judge a book by it's cover. That's grade school 101. This was so fuckin cool. This is what this project is all about. Discovering new music that you've never heard of. Need to buy this....
It's not bad - but agreed with th comments. A lot of just nonsese
Really loved it. Idk if you can call this a super group in the moment - but i mean after the fact abso-friggin-lutely. Just killer instrumentation throughout. Some great riffs, decent melodies...but some good ole fashion rock and friggin roll right here.
I'll never understand how people can hate on the Eagles. Are they perfect? No. But they're sure close to it. Hotel California just shoots out of the gate with straight heat. Sure we all know the song, yes you've probably heard it too many times. But that doesn't make it a bad track of music. Quite the contrary IMO. Going right into New Kid in Town which I think is so underrated,. Then to life in the fast lane. Like c'mon man. They might a song out of a warm up riff that Joe Walsh used to play.
The record definitely drops off a bit after that. But i think the first 3-4 definitely give this record a solid 4. They were cranking out a ton of music at this time and this was the tail end before there was a 3 year break until The long Run(also a little underrated).
Will forever love the Eagles and tell everybody to watch the Eagles Doc. It's killer
Honestly, I don't think I've ever listened to a Police album front to back. Just never really stuck to me...at the time.
That being said - super fun record. I think I knew about half of this record without actually knowing it was on the same album. So i guess that says a lot about them. I always wanted to get into 'new wave' but never fully dipped my toe in it. I've dabbled with some Iggy over the years - some Police - maybe some Duran and Talking Heads.
I don't want to say i've missed out - because I really do love my taste in music(as one should). BUT - this was really cool and I owe Sting and co. a bit more love and respect and dive deeper into the catalog. I THINK this is their top record but i'd have to look around a bit more to confirm. Will circle back....one day!
Holy shit this fuckin slaps!
Really wanted to like it - especially given how much influence it has on artists I love. But damn.... side B was a tough listen. 2.5 stars - but it's gonna get a 2 all said and done
Randy should not just be associated with Toy Story
Can confidently say that I've never listened to a full Velvet Underground album before... I've never been the worlds biggest Lou Reed guy. Respect beyond belief but It just never clicked other than a handful of tracks.
This one is interesting - so curious to hear Sister Ray. 17 minute experience starts now. Total Shoegaze inspiration on this record. Truly tone setting
How do you sing a 17 minute song about a BJ? that's actually wild
For a songwriter, or really anybody who loves music, there's truly nothing bad you can say about this record. I wish i listened to Carole so much earlier in life - hell I wish I knew who she was.
One of the greatest singer-songwriter albums ever created, and you can argue it might honestly be the best. It's book ended by an incredible song with "i feel the earth" and closing with "you make me feel". Absolutely love this record. Fuck it - might give it a spin later!
I've dabbled in some RadioHead - but not enough to truly hold my own in a conversation. This is a rock solid album that absolutely lives up to the hype. Really current, holds up beyond well....you could've told me this came out in 25' and i'd believe you. Really edgy and just a super solid album. Love that i'm experiencing it for the first time at ~33 years old.
But wow - this would've been absolutely electric for me in High school. I can totally see myself standing at the bus stop at 730AM waiting to start my day with just some epic vibes. I'd get on the bus and show my friend my iPod and this 'new radiohead album' i just found.
It's just so funny how it missed me - huge music lover. And yet here we are - reminiscing about a moment in time that should've and could've been - but never was.
Overall solid - definitely like other Roxy a bit more but this was surprisingly good. A few duds (Bittersweet) in the middle but wraps up really really strong with Prarie Rose.
I love John Lee Hooker. I love the Blues. But this was just not it. Make your bag, totally get it. But this shouldn't be on this list. Put on Real Folk Blues or Burnin'. But not this. This is not good
I didn't know what i was epecting - but loud noise was generally my first thoughts. As i've learned through this project. NEVER EVER judge a record by it's cover.
Pretty good actually. Get some pixies vibes here. Ok - take it back. Just overall really f'n good. Wow - had no idea what I was walking into. People calling this a top 25 album of all-time is some high praise. Need to give it a re-listen to give it that sort of acclaim
Not for me. Thanks though
Just no. I'm all about french music....but no...
Rock solid. Love teetering the line of Funk and Psychodelic. A long way from MoTown(which also rips). Not many groups can venture into such varying genres and crush - but here they are.
Under appreciated on many fronts
Pretty fun honestly. Can't say i've really listened to them before but definitely had a good early 90's rock vibe. Definitely get the Oasis comp. Funny how some music like this rarely makes it's way over to mainstream US music - this probably would've bopped.
Sparky's dream(not this record) is also a pretty great track. Love when i find something new and intriguing here! That's what the project is (likely) all about!
This is fine. Some tracks pop a bit more than others - title track is probably the best one. But doesn't feel like something i'd want to spin again
I've never gotten into Tom. I've really tried, it's just not for me
That absolutely rocked. Confidently never listened to a track from Siouxsie & The Banshees before. Really fun stuff!
So i'm objectively a Jesse Colin Young fan, so this is pretty fun. Does it pop off the charts? Not at all. Is there anything that i left thinking "WOW"...no? But was this an easy listen and a good time? fuck yeah.
It's honestly bookended really well.
Darkness, Darkness is great - but Ride the Wind might be my favorite. Gets a little jazzy with the keys, is that a vibraphone i hear?, the scatting, and the occasional horn vibe
One might say there's too much alt british punk rock on here
The fuckin balls on this guy. Need this album in the absolute worst way possible. Easy listening, phenomenal grooves. Felt like a bit of a crooner listening to this riding the subway home transported back to the 1960's. The only thing that took me out of the moment was the e-bike that kept bumping into my elbow.
Like everyone else, I knew of Relax. But I couldn't have told you who it was by even if I tried. But now I'll never forget. That was such a banger of a fuckin album. The Bruce cover is immaculate, Relax is great, San Jose is a real fun. But the crem de crem - All 13+ minutes of welcome to the pleasuredome. I think i listened to it 3 times yesterday? So so so good - really revved me up. Killer stuff
I didn't get into Mr. Prine unfortunately until after his death. Every musician and songwriter I love had nothing but incredible things to say about him - so naturally I had to dive in. If I listened to him 10 years ago I would've said no thanks. I'm glad i've grown and my tastes have changed - because lyrically it's as great as they come. And they're so simple and never try too hard.
"Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down and won, and it was twelve o'clock before I realized That i was havin, no fun".
Just disregarding all syllable rules and instincts a lot of songwriters follow. It just seems so easy(it's not).
RIP Mr Prine. Thanks for aspiring everyone I love.
Just electric on all accounts. And I say that as a buzz word - not as literal as you might think. Hard to find a bad thing to say about this album. Believe it or not - our house wouldn't even be in the top 3 for me on this record. Carry on, almost cut my hair, Helpless, Woodstock....i mean the list just goes on and on with banger after banger. Deja Vu of course.
I remember sitting in my apartment in my mid 20's(i'm 33 now) and spinning this in the background. And my buddy's girlfriend, now wife, who just moved in commented how drab this was. I paused the video game i was playing and explained the magic that was Deja Vu. She never got it...It's ok. I won't hold it against her. She's still cool.
Neil Young added so much to this group - but i think the amazing thing about CSN&Y(even without Y)....just the absolute musicianship across the board. Everybody had stellar solo careers. Every combination of this group is just killer no matter what way you cut it.
Fun fact about me. I own just about 400 records....and not a single one of them is a 90's record. Wild. Probably because i'm obssed with 1950-1979 but that's besides the point. Absolutely wild that this is the last bit we got of Nirvana. Overall a rockin record. I could do without a handful of them(personal preference, nothing actually wrong with them). Objectively had to go to listen to Nevermind right after this. RIP Kurt.
Nobody's ever alone - remember that. Life can be tough sometimes - but you're NEVER alone.
Really well written record. Didn't really get into it until the back half to be honst. B side absolutely rocks though. Didn't know much about Butler aside from being an avid NBA fan - 5 misconduct allegations? Yikes.
Good listening record though
Meh - could've died without listening. Not even knocking it because it's french - just not that great.
One of the biggest comeback albums of all time. Super solid. Love the horns in Private Dancer. Solid cover of Al Green. But definitely more partial to Ike and Tina and pre-comeback Tina
Surprised that i actually knew more from this record. I remember watching the oscar snub, The Girl Next Door, and hearing this This Year's Love for the first time. I was obviously invested in the moment, but the song really stood out to me. Enough that I....errr....found it on the internet later and put it on my iPod.
As a songwriter it's pretty hard to find anything to hate on here. Also surprised by how many tracks I actually knew on here. Maybe i've heard a track off Life in Slow mo? So easy to see how he's the inspriation to so many others like him... James Blunt, James Bay...etc
Solid 90s record
This is my favorite songwriters favorite album. So i think by default I kind of have to like it. Lyrically fantastic. But why is there a penis on the cover? That's for JM to know I guess. Really beautiful record though
I've listened to it, I own it. I get the hype of what it was for it's time....but this is just a live album to me.
I mean yeah, this is the most Radiohead i've ever listened to in my life. THere's no two ways about it. Another solid record - these guys know what the hell they're doing. It makes you beg the question...why has it taken me so long to listen to this? Shrug.
Just change the name to Songs of depression and hate. Lenny was in a deep funk here - but as always it's lyrically beautiful.
Actually loved this a lot - when the horn solo comes in during The Walk.....woof. The stank face I made on the train definitely caught some eyes - but it was so worth it.
Something i'm learning here - I like 80's music far more than I anticipated. It's just i didn't know what 'kind of 80's' music I liked. More like this
Some folks have some intense feelings on live albums. I personally like them and not gonna knock points for them appearing here.
That said - great live album. Just some really fuckin good rock and roll - like the way it was intended. THey're not trying too hard - they're just absolutely ripping and rocking on stage. They sounded so chill and non chellant - really solid record. Love the artwork too - things that are low lift and simple really pop for me.
I don't even have to listen to the full thing to tell you how awesome this is. SUCH a crisp recording especially for it's time. Magnificent vocals - absolutely top tier. So relaxing and just nearly perfect. Sarah is an absolute queen in this world.
I THINK the pianist also did some work with Ben Webster, one of, if not, my favorite jazz musicians. Really smooth stuff. 4.5 - but i'll give it a 5. we're on a bit of a run here!!
Tim Buckley — aka the father of the late, great Jeff Buckley. Sometimes I catch myself being a little too opinionated about singer-songwriters, and then feel weird calling myself one. But I’ll chill out here. I think some people just don’t love when folks sing about their feelings in a super melodic way — kinda like how some people hate Bob Dylan for, well, Dylan-ing. And the voice. I think Tim Buckley falls into that camp for some folks too.
But honestly? I’m into it. “Strange Feelin’” is just a really fun, vibey track. “Buzzin’ Fly” is fantastic — and it’s been covered a bunch, most recently by Bonny Light Horseman. “Sing a Song for You” is another standout. I know his earlier stuff gets more love, but there’s some gems here. Plus, shoutout to him for bringing Jeff Buckley into the world. Total legend gone way too soon.
Respectfully, solo JT is just not for me. I'm good
Well that was a pleasant surprise. They call this a precursor to Punk Rock, and I totally get all of that. Loud and fun - but of all just really good music. Feel like i need to dig a little deeper in The Dictators catalog.
LOVE the opening intro...until he 'sing talks'
So honestly I didn't expect to like it this much - but it's 100% because of the jazzy tones behind him. Most Tom albums will sit at alike a 2-2.5 for me. But this might be a 3.5. Once again wish we could give it halves...but here we are!
Keys are absolutely awesome. Also fun that the sax player is the same sax soloist from Steeley Dan's 'Deacon Blues'. An underappreciated legend who worked with: Chet Baker, Quincy Jones, Count Basie, Vince Guaraldi, and of course Mr. Waits.
Music's a funny thing, man. You have gifted lyricists with incredible voices, you have incredible voices with shotty lyrics, and then you have Tom Waitts. Who during the recording, allegedly turned around to face the band and read the classified section of the paper while they played. 'It was like Allen Ginsberg with a really, really good band'
How can you not be romantic about the Beach Boys? And i just mean in general - not just on Pet Sounds. The Wilson brothers, though yes have had a ton of issues(including Manson ties), produced some groundbreaking music that will forever ring in my ears.
Not sure if EVERYONE got this album the week BW passed, but i'm sure glad I did. I've played it a few times. Always picks me right back up. First time I ever heard of them was when I was a kid watching Full House...like who tf are these guys!
When i first started golfing back in 2019 for some reason I kept playing the Beach Boys in my headphones. Their melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation made the game feel so easy and fluid. Granted, I still suck. BUT - they have and will always be an incredible outlet.
RIP Brian - turly one of a kind!
It took me a long time to get into The National - but damn that's a rock solid band. Mark Berninger is a supremely underrated songwriter - started listening to a bit of his solo stuff too. Super awesome
So, that was interesting. Some solid tracks - but then you get to No Sympathy and it's just like 'wait what the hell?!?!'. 3. It's fine - not sure it belongs on this list though tbh
Revolutionary is the best thing to call it. Little Richard took 12 bar blues it made it just an absolute vibe.
So much alt europe stuff on here. I'm not gonna sit here and call it trash. Because it's not - and some of it is pleasantly surprising. But I'm just saying it doesn't deserve to be dubbed as a top 1001 album. So for that. 1 Star
I'm gonna give it a 4 because it's a pretty tight album. But agree with the masses - it's a little long. Make 2 records out of this and double the money. 19 songs - you can totally make that work. Might not be the Tweedy way though. Jeff's a fantastic songwriter - there's no two ways about it. Should be regarded as one of the modern greats - but I actually think he's over diluted his music so you don't really appreciate everything we've had.
But this is really great Indie music that I aspire to write. It's all my vibe
Maps brings me back to my "rock band' days. But past that - i'm good on the yeah yeah yeahs
The American beatle himself! This is a supremely awesome listen. Fun, laid back, and yet so unique
I would never call any of these ground breaking , especially in context to the rest of his catalog. But it’s definitely a defiant album from a legendary musician. Honestly, if you told me Brand New was the band behind this I’d totally believe you.
RIP to the legend himself
Another case of - why is this on here?

Was on a heater of good tunes...now we're on a huge run of garbage
Yeah this is doing exactly what I want it to do.
5/5 - easiest listen i could've ever asked for
Wow wow. Really loved this. Last track id a gut punch that rings true all these years later. Insane
Never heard of Laura before - but that was a real smooth listen on the train ride home
Absolutely classic. The fearsome foursome as they call them(do they?). Roll over beehtoven is one of my favorites - obviously a massive play on Chuck - but later amplified by ELO.
Is this the best beatles record? No. Some might say yes - but it's just always so cool to hear how they've progressed and push the envelope every damn album. And it all happens so fast.
There's a Jim Morrison quote that i absolutely love - though it's a little sad when you break it down. But..
"I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up, and gasps, 'Oh, look at that!' Then—whoosh, and I'm gone... and they'll never see anything like it ever again—ever".
And to me that's the Beatles - and obviously the doors too. Just this fiery comet that BURST onto the scene and absolutely CHANGED THE GAME. 5 stars forever
Honestly that was kinda fun. I THINK i've heard of them before - not entirely sure. But i do know. Something i've learned in this project - I like the 80's wayyyyyy more than I thought I did. Just had to find my niche in the heavy metal and hairspray
I've definitely found some interesting albums on here. This definitely goes down on one of the more dumber ones..
Did you know that Bob Dylan painted this album cover? Did you know Bob wanted to actually sing on this record? Would've been sick - but thankfully he gave The Band room to shine on their own. They got together to create the Basement Tapes - but i just love the fact that this iconic album was created, and also, an ode to such a special place.
Such an easy listen - and an incredible debut record.
Definitely some good stuff here. I'm more of an acoustic Eddie Vedder guy personally. Shoutout 'into the wild''!
There's just no denying it - I was made for this sort of music. Ever since I was a kid soulful, powerful voices like Aretha and Etta always got my attention. The older I got and branched out - the same old story. Aretha is and was the Queen. Full stop. And this record is absolutely no different. Filled with heart, soul, and everything in between!
That cover goes crazy hard
Not for me. Hard to see the appeal
Honestly i listened to this and forgot to post about it - Super solid record. The 80's keeps calling to me
Just doesn't get better than this...
I'm thankful I was introduced to Shaft at such a young age that Isaac always resonated with me. Hut Buttered Soul definitely escaped me for a while until like my mid-teens. Walk on By always got to me. Still does
I hear time to pretend and i get chills to being 14 years old again. The nostalgia rushes back to me like a wave. Running and grabbing my ipod to illegally download this from Limewire so I can show my friend right before homeroom. Absolutely epic album
