Ready To Die
The Notorious B.I.G.A lot of swearing and sex noises. Would never listen to this in public.
A lot of swearing and sex noises. Would never listen to this in public.
About halfway through this, I realized that the singer kind of sounded like Cookie Monster. Helped me get through it.
Very cool indeed, title does not lie.
A lot of swearing and sex noises. Would never listen to this in public.
LOVED IT brought back many memories and 90s feelings though I have never actually heard most of it before.
I heard more than enough of this in high school, but I suffered through the entire album anyway. Apart from the three hits, the tracks are completely indistinguishable. Each song sounds just like the last, and the lyrics are basic. I really don’t see how this belongs on any "best of all time" list. Glad to say I have now heard it for the first and last time.
I thought this was pretty good, but a bit disappointing as I was really looking forward to diving in -- a legendary band and one of the greatest singers of all time, but I haven't listened to them much apart from the few hits on the radio. The harmonies were outstanding, but a few of the songs were a bit silly. I guess I wasn't expecting as much camp, but I should have known better.
This album came out in 1972 (and so did I!) and I can appreciate it for what it is, but not quite my cup of tea. Many of the songs are a bit on the schlocky side (sorry, Stevie). But no denying this dude is a force of nature.
Great vibe for messing around in the kitchen and doing meal prep (not to mention, eating). Really appreciate that this guy changed jazz. Do not be fooled by the chicken-- this is not a country record.
I kind of felt "ok" about this one, but this is one of the records I'm going to give a second listen to see if anything sticks out to me. I had been looking forward to hearing Ambulance Blues, but it didn't really grab me. An ambulance can only go so fast It’s easy to get buried in the past When you try to make a good thing last
Some music isn't for everyone, and maybe I'm one of those people this time. I will give it another listen, though, because it was actually starting to grow on me a bit by the end.
What is Green Onions? (4 seconds later) OH Ok background music for household chores but I can’t see myself seeking it out in the future unless I was having a themed party.
Honestly, for 1979 I didn’t find this as experimental or groundbreaking as I expected. Not nearly as weird as I had hoped.
This album gave me LIFE today
Quite tolerable. Good vibes for a Saturday afternoon.
I had no idea what this was all about and the cover art did not look promising, but I actually loved this album and was sad when it was over. Reminded me of Wilco and others. Shockingly modern sounding but released in 1976!?
A few tracks in the middle were kind of forgettable (which ones - I've already forgotten) but it was my first time hearing the album as a whole and I enjoyed the concept. I do expect to play it again, which is more than I can say for a lot of the albums I've listened to so far. Remember when Rosie couldn't understand how a record she had never heard of could win Best Album? Good times.
Ok, I guess. Kind of like a happier Rage Against the Machine. Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate the talent and the enthusiasm.
I can’t take it anymore. It’s awful and it JUST NEVER ENDS.
Well look at Gordie McLightfoot over here... I have not had a lot of exposure to folk but I listened to this while working in my studio on a rainy afternoon and it couldn't have been more perfect.
Was ok. Great organ.
Really enjoyed. Sadly I hear he is not alive anymore.
Kinda fun, I didn’t mind it.
Having this album come up was like seeing an oasis while crawling through the desert. After 21 weird picks, I so earned this.
WTF, where has this guy been all my life? I feel like this album dropped from space straight onto my eardrums. Instant add to my playlist.
Throwing in the towel after three tracks. Dull, dated, bland. I just can’t do this today.
About halfway through this, I realized that the singer kind of sounded like Cookie Monster. Helped me get through it.
Not what I expected - kind of liked it. Little stories and vignettes. Still, I can’t see myself listening to it again.
This gave me a funky afternoon. Glad the windows weren’t open when track 2 came on.
Kind of reminded me of Supertramp a bit? Well anyway, it didn’t really grab me.
Just... ok. First time listening to Oasis voluntarily and I find it all sounded the same after a while.
Music was kinda ok, kept waiting for a more upbeat song and it just never came. After reading the band's bio I was definitely not expecting strings and vibraphone. Giving a second listen (with headphones) because technically I should like this and I feel like I'm missing something.
Glad to finally dig in to the Cohen catalogue. The lyrics are exceptional but I can’t imagine I’ll be adding it to my workout playlist.
Cover - kinda grungy looking lady w grungy text Inside - fairly bland pop music Just didn't grab me
Liked it, no notes.
I love classic rock but these guys for some reason have always rubbed me the wrong way.
Really enjoyed this, great vibes for my afternoon. I have never listened to them before. Had to laugh when I realized that the closest they came to profanity was "nincompoop" 😂
I always had this idea I wasn't crazy about "earlier" Radiohead but this was very solid and I listened to it twice. You can definitely hear OK Computer coming down the pipe.
I have heard of the band, but TBH none of these songs sounded familiar at all. None of them grabbed me-- very generic sounding to my ears.
This album was transformational when I was 14. Still holds up nearly 40 years later (!) There's a Light has to be one of their greatest songs, if not the *the* greatest.
Admittedly, I don't know much about this guy. I am familiar with at least one of his songs (Moon dance?) and it was not on this album. However, I patiently listened to all 90+ minutes and can now confidently say I do not care for Van Morrison. He did have a very good band/orchestra, and I am happy to report that "Terry Adams on cello" is still alive and well. Go Terry!
At first: hmm that one guy kind of sounds like Rod Stweart Later: eww it IS Rod Stewart Overall bad, but track 2 was kind of funny.
Hey, I actually loved this... perfect for my morning workout. I would probably give it a 3.5, but rounding up to 4 as I ended up listening to it twice.
YAY MY FIRST ZEPPELIN This isn't in my top 3, but solid album. Did I listen to it 3x today? Maybe... headphones, speakers, headphones again
Patiently listened to the whole thing. Did not care for it. It was just... silly. No substance. I was thinking this was almost surely one of the albums I heard the counsellors playing at summer camp when I was 11 or 12.
I was kind of looking forward to this, looks weird. But unfortunately it wasn’t interesting/cool weird it was just … uncomfortable weird. • sitar • harmonica • harpsichord • recorder • tin whistle • kazoo • possibly box with rubber bands (?) • hurdy gurdy (?) • rambling lyrics that are possibly being made up on the spot • bad singing Normally some of these CAN be acceptable in a recording (with the exception of the kazoo), but all at once? Intolerable. The fact that this made it onto any best of all time list is puzzling to say the least.
I admit I haven't thought much about Beck, ever. I liked it, but didn't love it. Very midtempo throughout, quite depressing, but some very nice string arrangements.
Dumb guitar fun. Blessedly brief.
Never heard of these guys, and I can see why. Kind of forgettable 70s music. Did get slightly better whenver they added horns. Essential listening... Nah.
I had mixed feelings about this. I SHOULD like it. Indeed, I *tried* to like it. But mostly I didn't. So much screaming.
I don't know what space rock is, but it was pretty ok. Lyrics nothing to write home about. Nice string arrangements when available.
Reminded me of another band, couldn't quite put my finger on it.
