Siamese Dream
The Smashing PumpkinsBetter than expected. An interesting combination of grunge and softer, more orchestral rock.
Better than expected. An interesting combination of grunge and softer, more orchestral rock.
Haven't listened to the "b-side" of this album in years, but it was still a good listen.
I've never been a big Thin Lizzy fan, and so I've never listened to a full album. This was pretty good. Not great, but not really any bad songs.
This was the first artist I've never listened to before on this list. It's not my normal type of music, but it's not bad, and I feel like I enjoyed the last few tracks more than the others, so maybe I gradually got into the mood for it or maybe I just prefer the later tracks.
A great album I've never listened to before. The story behind it makes it even more wild that it's held up for more than 50 years.
Great album! Several of the songs I've never listened to before were jams.
Good album. A few songs I haven't heard that were all pretty good.
I've been a big fan of The Mother We Share since it came out, but don't think I ever listened to the whole album. Nothing else was really stand-out, but it was good enough that, with the jam it starts out with, it earned 3*, but it was close to 2.
I don't know why I dislike this album when I like similar genres, but even One was just ok, and it went downhill from there.
I grew up with the singles, althought I haven't listened to the whole album in years. Looking at the track list, I was worried that it would taper off after All These Things That I've Done and I was right. It was okay after that, but it brought it from a possible 5* to a low 4*.
I'm a fan of slightly later Offspring, but this album is still a solid listen with mostly good songs and few greats. 4*
I was a bit underwhelmed by this album. It was alright, but outside of the title song there weren't any songs that really grabbed me. 3*
Started off strong, had a couple of iffy songs in the middle, All I Wanna Do brought it back and then it had a disappointing ending (which is pretty common). If the middle or ending hadn't tapered off I would've called this 4*, but it's a high 3.
Growing up I always preferred I and IV, and I think I stand by that opinion. But this is a great album, despite how weird Hats Off to (Roy) Harper is. I'm tempted to give this 5*, but I think I'm going to leave it at a high 4*.
Never heard of her before, so I went in with no expectations. I feel like I should have liked the album more than I did, so I'll have to come back to it at some point in the future. 3*
I'm not much of hip hop person, but this was pretty good. 3*
I kind of expected more from this album. It was good, but not great. 3*
Not really my cup of tea, but wouldn't be bad as background music. Wolfman Jack was pretty good, but the rest wasn't for me. 2*
Not bad vibing music, but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to. I debated between 2 and 3* for this one, because it was actually pretty good for what it was, but as I doubt I'll ever listen to it again I'm going to go with 2*.
Not bad, but not something I'd really want to listen to again.
Good album, but not great. Relaxing. 3*
Started off strong. Pretty good album for instrumental music, which I'm not typically into. Solid 3*.
The original was unavailable, so I listened to the "Director's Cut." I went in with pretty low expectations, and honestly this album was kind of interesting. It seemed to almost alternate between songs that I thought were really solid and songs that I wanted to turn off. I was debating what to give this, and honestly I think there are enough good songs to merit 3*.
Starts off and ends with fantastic songs, but I was hoping for more from the middle of the album. The country version of Honky Tonk Woman was quite interesting, especially as that's how the song was originally written and the rest was fine, but not great. Debated between high 3 and low 4, but going to go with 4*.
A solid album, and worth listening to, but not many great songs.
Not a bad album, but it's just not for me.
Fantastic album. Worth my first 5* rating
I felt like I should have liked this album more than I did. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it.
Not bad, was jamming until the last song. 3*
Better than I expected, but still probably 2*.
Not bad, but got old after a few songs.
I went into this expecting weird nonsense, and I definitely got that, but I also got a lot more really solid music that I didn't expect. The satire and the zaniness were peak, and the music was just behind.
Great album. 4*
Started off and ended strong, but got kind of weird in the middle. 3*
Good, but no great songs. I didn't realize how tight he and Bowie were, but it's very obvious by this album.
Just too long to listen to. A handful of pretty good songs, but by the end I just wanted it to be over. 2*
Never heard of this band, and almost skipped it because I don't like listening on YouTube. But I'm glad I listened, because this was fantastic.
3*. The first album I've gotten where the B side has done all of the heavy lifting.
It was alright. It might have been great in 1980 when it came out, but now to me it's slightly better than generic punk.
Not bad, but not great.
There's a lot of hate for this album, but I was surprisingly blown away by it. Fantastic all around. Graceland is probably the 5th best track, which is wild to me.
Hard not to rate this a 5 when it has this many well-deserved hits.
I saw a review that said, "Sounds like its from the future and ancient at the same time" and that pretty much sums it up. This is pretty good as background music, but that's about it.
Somewhat relaxing, to the point that the music couldn't hold my focus.
4*
4*
A fantastic album from a band I've never heard of.
Not bad, considering I don't really like country. 2*, since I'm never going to listen to this again.
Absolutely awful. Parklife was okay, and that's as good as it got. I couldn't even finish it and gave up after To the End.
Suprised by the large number of people calling this one of the best albums of all time. It was okay,, but that's about it. Achtung Baby was much better.
A Dexys Midnight Runners' album *without* Come On Eileen? All in all, not bad, but not great.
No real bangers, but pretty solid all the way through.
I didn't really like Broken English, but the rest of the album was solid.
I kind of thought I'd have to slog through this but was pleasantly surprised. I've heard a handful of Iron Maiden songs in the past, including two of these, but they never seemed that great. But put them in the middle of a solid album and everything comes together. 5*
The lyrics seemed a bit half-assed, but I guess that's what you get in noise rock. Much better overall than I expected.
Nice to listen to, but without any great songs.
Much more "Elvis" than his first album, earning this an extra star, even without the big hits.
Only knew one of their songs before this, but this is a solid album.
From an impact perspective, this is undoubtedly 5 stars. But from the perspective of how much I enjoyed listening, it's a two.
Never heard of these guys, but based on the reviews they had a fantastic earlier album that I'm now looking forward to. Strong start with Elvis Impersonator, and I really liked Everything Must Go. 4*, close to 5.
