1001 Albums Summary

Fun!

The Kinks are one of the great chroniclers of mid 20th century British society. Wonderful!

Amazing disc…listened to it 1,000 times and it never gets old!

Straight up classic rock and roll music 🎸

I can understand being mesmerized by the music but I ultimately find it unappealing.

Has all the elements of the greatest rock music from the mid-70s to early 80s. You can hear the impact on Fiona Apple and Ani DiFranco…great stuff!!

Fun!

Poppy Swamp Blues

Right on…excellent protest anthem for peace and justice and harmony

Unlistenable

Respect!!!

Not my cup of tea.

Lots of noise with some good hooks.

A mix of good with some tedium…I hear all of the influences!

A terrific surprise…a great mix of pop and soul.

Fun

Why?

Seminal band…

Fast car

Did not age very well…a recording that could only have been made in that time and place.

I like some of there music but overall this is mediocre…have heard better local bands.

She is enormously talented and her songwriting is excellent…it is clear why she is a superstar.

As I listened to my daughters’ favorite rock and pop bands it became clear that the Strokes have had a huge influence on the sound of rock music.

Catchy tunes

Alex Chilton influenced many bands we like…some great riffs but uneven.

Trippy 90s metal pop…some good hooks.

Okay

The classic jazz funk fusion master

Solid blues rock…they are probably great live.

Pick the influence: Beatles or Queen or Bowie or Talking Heads or Tears for Fears, etc

Bowie!

Important and influential…not all of the music holds up but the power of her work is still there.

I liked it better than I thought I might…uneven still but the good stuff is really good!!

Good Golly Miss Molly and Penthouse Pauper are terrific, blistering and high energy. Some are duller but they do rock.

Wild and undisciplined proto punks…kick out the jam m’fers indeed!

Some very pretty melodies.

Johnny Marr is awesome but I just cannot get past Morrisey’s whining.

Was this considered good 58 years ago?

All the FM radio of the mid-70s came rushing back, middle school, 95X, all of it!!

Grungy cool

I remember!

I got a peaceful easy feeling listening to this album!

The perfect record…I hear it still as I heard it the first time I listened.

It has always sounded nostalgic to me. Music of a time and place...some good tunes but not timeless.

Kind of average 90s pop rock…couple of good songs in there.

Yeah yeah yeah

The Byrds Sweetheart of the Rode is fantastic…this is where Uncle Tupelo, Whiskey Town, Drive By Truckers, and all of their offshoots are from!

Slacker fun

Some great stuff some silly stuff…not their best but, hey, it’s the Beatles!!

Sly was probably the first R & B artist that I knew and liked…great stuff.

Inconsistent

Never really warmed to this group.

I still think Smells Like Teen Spirit is a rip off of More Than A Feeling

I really like VH…straddled the pop heavy metal line better than anyone. Roth is is a great front man and Eddie is a true virtuoso. Some great songs on this album.

Like the Pixies…some good stuff with a lot of mediocre.

They can be fun and they can be ponderous…but they are unique!

Great chroniclers of the transition of postwar England. Some great songs, some that are time pieces.

This music always has a tinge of nostalgia. Gauzy memory flashbacks in holiday movies, etc.

Echo’s influence in the 1980s was quite broad. Dorm music!!

Zed

First time I really listened to them…fantastic!!! Great rock and roll music…my new favorite

I came to the Allman Brothers party a little late but I am enjoying the vibe. Terrific blues rock with a cool country roll.

I tried…

Just not a fan…ponderous

An excellent, enjoyable album.

An excellent, enjoyable album.

Love it

Boring

Reminds me of our misspent youth…overwrought and dramatic…fantastic!

Reminds me of riding in my parents station wagon as a kid…still hear some of this on Mom’s Muzak station in her car!

Dirty guitars, raucous rock, pure fun and energy!

Two amazing songs bookend a mix of country and blues songs. The classics make an okay record great.

Quintessential 80s…What Have I Done to Deserve This is a classic.

I have a friend who would fly all over the country to see Leonard Cohen…I couldn’t and can’t get into his music.

Criminal is a fantastic song.

She is very good in the genre…I just don’t love the genre!!

Never was a huge fan of his...good social commentary but can't listen for long stretches!!

Sub rate Ramones

She was a great pop artist 😎

Ponderous

Mostly due to Here Comes Your Man

Just not an electronica fan

Great slacker punk anarchy. Funny and angry all at once!

They have a great sound for sure.

Not as good as Thriller

Don’t care!!

An epochal disc…defined the first half of the 80s.

A little to quirky

Amazing album…iconic and generational

Wish I was there!!

Could be good background music!

Don’t care that he is considered legendary…I cannot listen to this disc.

Good for it’s genre

Good for it’s genre.

Does not grab me as much as it did when I was younger. Still enjoyable and soaked with nostalgia.

Is there a better groovy 1970s ballad than Golden Lady? I think not!

Meh

An 80s staple!

Where Was You At is fantastic! What an interesting record.

Kind of cool…all sorts of pop and Americana sounds.

A perfect representation of late 1970s punk pop.

The best of his genre.

Catchy but cannot listen for any length of time.

His work with the Byrds was amazing. You can hear the beginning sounds of alt country here.

Not good.
