1001 Albums Summary

This is another one where half-stars would help.

Didn’t know they covered Black Sabbath.

I listened to the first 26-minute song on my drive to work and kind of assumed I got the gist.

I wish Win Butler wasn’t a creep.

Gotta admit I enjoyed this more than I expected to.

Hey cool, Okkervil River covered one of these songs.

It’s official, I will never “get” Tom Waits.

Probably not a good sign for an album when you listen to it and the song stuck in your head afterwards is a cover version of a song that wasn’t on the album.

Now I hope some Mama Cass solo stuff is on this list.

Kinda want to watch Cable Guy now.

The compiler of this list seems to line Pet Shop Boys.

Easy to forget how solid this album was, even without the mega hits.

Gets a 4 just for “Beth” alone.

Some context might help me understand why this was on the list, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to look it up.

Places I don’t enjoy Velvet Underground: At the grocery astore. In my car. Perhaps I should listen to the next one in a box or with a fox.

I assume there will be other Cure albums, but this one felt kinda filler-y to me.

I’ve wondered more than once if I’d get into Elvis Costello if I gave his stuff a chance. After my first experience hearing a full album of his, the answer is…maybe.

I know giving an album one song isn’t really fair, but I could have been convinced this was Sublime if it was on in the background and I wasn’t paying attention.

I was wondering if this would be the album with that one song. It was.

Despite an affection for 80s hair metal and even this specific band, I don’t think this album needs to be on the list.

I’m sure the wardens benefitted financially from the Johnny Cash prison albums, but I have to imagine it wasn’t fun listening to a singer with an outlaw reputation get the inmates worked up with songs about how much prison sucks.

I’ve never heard of this band and I’m generally bad at first impressions of albums, but I was surprised at how much I liked this.

Two stars for the music, bonus star for the album name.

Having never heard of this band or album, and after reading the description, I hoped I would enjoy this more.

Slightly serious sentiment warning…Figuring out how to (somewhat accurately) play the opening to “Hells Bells” by accident was a defining moment in my interest in playing guitar, so I’d love this album even if it wasn’t one the biggest rock albums ever.

Three stars for an album I didn’t even know I was nostalgic about.
