An album I avoided listening to at the time. At that time I was listening to alternative guitar music. The singles on this album were huge and on constant rotation. Went back to this album for work purposes (music tutor at college) and realised what a great intelligent brilliantly written pop album this is.
Not my favourite Zeppelin album, but see how the link between 1,2 and 3 would make Led Zeppelin 4 the major album it became.
Too folky for me, but perhaps the band needed that change from the big bluesy rock of the first two albums?
However, as with my previous album, having gone back to it now, I have warmed to it.
Not for me.
Like him as a musician and a person, but find his albums derivative and too bland for my own taste.
Love this album. I was a big fan of the Sugarcubes and Bjork in particular.
This was a ground breaking album and cemented Bjork as a special talent.
A groundbreaking album.
Apart from Muddy Waters vocals, you have Pat Hare on guitar, with that overdriven distorted sound and Otis Span on keyboards.
I love Nick Drake and Bryter Layter is my favourite of his albums.
For me it’s the perfect Sunday morning album. Side one is just the most beautiful and sublime of any album.
We are lucky to live in the area that his sister Gabrielle and the Nick Drake foundation are based, and have become friends of theirs.
Nick Drake’s will continue to live on and inspire both listeners and musicians alike.
Not my thing. I can appreciate the musicianship, but to overblown.
This is a visceral piece of work. All the earlier Bad Seeds albums are my favourites. It’s unhinged, noisy, dark, beautiful and storytelling at its best. I have been lucky enough to this band play these songs live and those gigs are some of the most memorable I’ve been to.
I like this album for its weird lyrical stylings. The sound is sumptuous in that baroque pop way Walker was moving towards.
“Jackie” is a great song and I had know no idea it had been banned.
Not my favourite Scott Walker album, but still very good.
A brilliant album amongst an array of Radiohead brilliant albums.
An album that had a huge impact at the time. Not really for me as I found it somewhat overblown, overbearing and sloganeering.
Really love this album. Any album opening with Sympathy for the Devil you k no is is going to be something special.
As usual the Stones musically are ragged and it’s a bit all over the place, but for me it makes it all the more listenable.
Shrouded in Brian Jones decline and eventual sacking on top of that.
Part of a string of albums that truly captures the Rolling Stones at their imperious best.
An unbelievable debut album. Anthony’s spectacular voice, the sparse but all enveloping music marked this out as a special album by a special artist.
Not for me. At this time, 1973, I was 15 and deeply into Bowie/Roxy Music/Mott and not prog rock. I was waiting for the next thing which for me was punk/new wave.
This music did not speak to me at all, especially the emphasis on virtuoso playing.
Good album. Not a massive fan of Neil Young but this second album with Crazy Horse musician’s is good.
A classic album tainted now by Amy’s personal life.
The album barks back to 1960s soul with the production skills of Mark Ronson. The album is littered with fantastic songs, great playing, great singing, brilliant lyrics and fantastic production.
I’m afraid I’m not a fan of Leonard Cohen. I have tried and there’s the odd song I like. I prefer the cover versions or other interpretations. I do appreciate and understand his position in musical history.
A brilliant album. I love Jah Wobble’s infectious love of all music. This really set the tone for music of any genre, any nation being commercial by mixing it all together. Justin Adam’s who went into play with Robert Plant is great and of course Sinead and Natacha’s vocals are sublime.
A fun, exciting, expansive album showing that cross over between guitar and beats.
Shaun Ryders lyrics are funny, poignant making him a very underrated writer.
Still relevant and has not dated.
Loved this album when it came out. Was genre defining and have seen them live and
Glen Gregory had and still has the most amazing voice.
Facist Groove Thing is a fantastic single.
They also get no credit for relaunching Tina Turners career either.
A genre defining album. In particular Grace Slick’s position as a political forward thinking vocalist. A huge influence on female singers.
Debut album and I lucky to see them on that first short tour of the UK to promote it. They were brilliant and this album has 6-7 brilliant songs. This is the only album for me. Each album got less alternative or more mainstream for me.
Their debut album was so good, that whatever came next had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately for me this does not match up.
I love this album.
Fun, brash, exciting. A new voice at the time and still sounds fresh today.
Her autobiography is brilliant as well.
A classic genre defining album. Something I listen to to relax especially on car journeys
Not his greatest album and the one before Graceland.
Loved this album when it came. A defining album in this genre.
One of the great live albums.
Superb musicianship.
Loved this album.
It’s their breakthrough into the mainstream.
Ms Jackson is a classic song and really set the album off.
Classic album and my favourite Marvin Gaye album
I’d heard tracks before this on bootleg tapes that a friend had.
This is the full commercial version.
I loved the PR campaign around them and these songs especially the singles are brilliant.
Seminal album.
Chock full of classic songs that still sound as fresh and relevant as when they were originally released.
Songs on here have been covered numerous times over the years.
Another in the classic cannon of Bob Marley. This is where Marley’s songs start to gain weight and substance in the music world.
Such a legacy from the original albums. Hard to sustain that quality.
Still, a good album.
Bought this album when it came out and loved it.
Singles were great.
I was/am a huge Husker Du fan, but this was a commercial alternative guitar album which showed Bob Mould’s songwriting skills.
A brilliant album.
Not just in terms of genre defining but big big singles on this album. Videos are brilliant to the songs as well.
One of my favourite albums ever.
Loved the quirkiness, the girls vocals, the weirdness.
Still relevant today.
A brilliant album. Like the B-52s debut. Weird, wonderful but still commercial.
Came to underworld via this album. The best title!! Stayed with this band for four albums. The best for me of this genre.
Great album.
Cut up techniques and odd samples and sounds.
A great album that changed The Cure’s direction. I have been a huge since day and see them probably more times than any band.
One of the best debut albums ever.
Some brilliant songs and some filler. Was a defining album for her. Just overblown a little.
I’m not a Dylan fan but know the esteem this is held in.
Loved this album.
Should have been a bigger band.
This is CSNY alongside the Monkees!!
One of the defining and turn around albums for U2.
I was a huge fan until Achtung Baby.
This album is steeped in Americana from the bands constant touring in attempt to break the US market.
Every track is brilliant and shows how much they as musicians soaked up their influences.
One of the best live albums
One of my favourite albums ever. Not a duff track on here.
Before he went pop, this album is a rock album. Three huge singles as well.
A brilliant album from a run of brilliant albums by Stevie Wonder
Love the single Music and played it many times!!
One of my favourite albums by one of my favourite bands.
I love CCR. Not their best album but has Proud Mary on it.
Still underrated as a band.
This is a brilliant album.
A second phase for Madonna with William Orbit on production duties.
I felt this transported Madonna into a more contemporary music world.
Not my thing but a standout album.
A brilliant album from start to finish. Great songs, outstanding playing.
A brilliant album from start to finish. Great songs, outstanding playing.
Brilliant album.
Genre defining.
The film alongside was a cultural phenomenon.
I’m a huge fan of the Pixies. This album was more mainstream and commercial, and I felt it unjustly got some disappointing reviews in the press.
Yes it isn’t noisy and abrasive, but I think this was a natural progression for any band.
One of the greatest albums.
A pop band turning into something more significant.
This and Revolver for me are the best two Beatles albums of their whole catalogue.
Having read Simon from Bella Union records account of Fleet Foxes. Their emergence fully formed is remarkable. I personally think this set the whole alt country genre into a new league and copied by many.
Their big album that really cemented their career. Not a fan after the first two albums, but love Jeff Lynne and all his writing and production.
Not a fan of Neil Young I’m afraid. I know his legacy and like some songs but a whole album is not for me.
A big album for the Verve but I’m not a massive fan.
I felt they had tried and failed and this album was their last throw of the dice. The sample for Bittersweet Symphony propelled them into the mainstream.
Loved this album. The singles are brilliant. We got to know they weren’t really a new wave band but older guys jumping on the bandwagon. However, it’s still a great album.
The “whatever happened?” Such a great album. I think there was a second album and I know there were personal issues, but a shame.
Love the band, love this album. So weird but so commercial. Followed Steve Masons solo career post Beta Band. Maybe let down by a couple of tracks.
Not a fan of the Foos. This is probably the one I rate the most.
A brilliant album.
Big singles that set the Who up and became anthems for the young.
Pete Townsend’s writing is fantastic, the playing is great, iconic imagery.
A genre defining album.
I bought this when it came out.
Saw him live as well at Brixton academy and the show was so good.
The first Sabbath album I heard. My age meant I missed the previous albums. All my friends had the album under their arms at school?
A huge album.
Cleverly placed with samples and being available to college and schools.
Very clever marketing.
Some tracks I like and others not so much.
Classic album by this supergroup
Beautiful harmonies.
Brilliant songwriting and playing.
Still sounds great today.
Classic genre defining album.
Big loud anthemic songs.
Not my favourite Queens album but you can hear where this is going to end up l.
Classic from start to finish.
Note that the Walkmen who preceded them had all the same ingredients.
