Bro is trying to blow out the mic at every opportunity.
Anyway, being serious this is a fine album I like some of the folk and genre mixing elements. I'm not opposed to a lengthy track, but bro does this drag on at points, makes it harder to engage with.
I also don't really like his voice either, more of a preference. Especially in the title track, there's a couple vocals which sound like he's kinda about gag from the effort he's forcing the vocals out.
It's not a bad album at all, I can see why others would like this. It just has an unfinished feel to it and the length and repetition of songs really drags on.
Fav track: The Way Young Lovers Do
Charming and enjoyable. A real treat to hear and Sarah Vaughan is a truly great performer.
A couple of flubs as it is a live album, but her charm makes up for any mistakes.
Fav track: Alone
Damn you oasis, as much as I don't like you guys...this is a good album.
I think this is probably peak oasis. Yes it's loud, obnoxious, and annoying, but that's typical for them. This is a perfect blend of everything that oasis is good at and all the songs are enjoyable and really work well together in this album.
Point off for it being oasis, sorry not sorry, it's just cause they're aresholes
Fav track: Don't look back in anger
I haven't ever listened to Sly & the family stone before and have zero context for this as it pertains to its era.
Having said this, is album is so cool. It's incredibly ahead of its time and the variation in instrumentation and style is so engaging.
I've already listened to this album 3 times today cause I find something new to like everytime.
My only real gripe is the mixing (I know, how original). But it bears repeating, sometimes I actually cannot hear what anyone is saying and am looking at the lyrics so I don't miss anything. That's not to say the music's bad, just needs a serious remaster.
I don't even know where to begin with the tone of this. It's moody and atmospheric whilst the funk melodies are pushing the song forward and it all culminates in a record that just needs to be experienced.
Honestly I think everyone should give this album a try.
Fav track: Just like a baby
I've only ever listened to the singles off of pet shop boys albums, so I didn't really know what to expect tbh.
This however is a treat, great synth pop and lots of florid elements throughout, the strings pairing on tracks really work well. The melodies and overall tone are great throughout, not a bad track on the album.
I quite like the storytelling style of lyricism, not for everyone but it works well for me.
I will say, you can tell this is from the 90s. The drum machine and the soundboard elements can be very distracting. This will turn a lot of people off, I still have to say it doesn't bother me much. I find it more funny that anything, but still it dates it heavily.
Overall, give it a try. I really enjoyed it, will be playing this more often now. Surprised me but good stuff.
Fav track: My October Symphony
It's fine, I don't really understand why this is a must listen. Music is unoffensive and vibey I guess but really isn't a standout.
Even if you like this, this is not your fav album in this genre.
Fav Track: After Eight
Decent album, nothing really jumps out about this tho. The songs are all decent and generally speaking the album is solid.
I haven't ever sat down and listened to a Foo Fighters album before, but I feel that they can do better than this. This definitely isn't their most popular record, but it's a good jumping off point for what the group will become.
It's decent, but not pushing any boundaries for the genre.
Fav Track: This is a Call
It's an interesting album, didn't really blow me away. But this was very influential for when it came out, and that's a credit to its originality.
I feel that there isn't enough variation in the album, so it can start to feel repetitive after a while. This has a very distinct attitude which gives it a lot of character, this helps add intrigue to the album and give a sense of who M.I.A is.
I think the beats are good, and overall had a very catchy baseline throughout. But some of the GarageBand style elements don't work for me.
It's interesting, I'll give it that. But really didn't stick with me. Probably doesn't help M.I.A is a weirdo (girl get vaccinated).
Fav Track: Galang
Madonna really was that girl. Lots of surprisingly challenging lyrics and confrontations.
I think Madonna's strength is in her singles, but that's not to say the songs are bad. I actually like most of the songs here. Tracks like 'Oh Father' give you a better sense of who she is, and that one in particular really grabbed me.
The hits off this album are just great, 'Like a Prayer' is probably her best song period. Great stuff, and the genre mixing with the choirs and the twisting of the religious symbolism really works well. Madonna really was pushing the boat at the time with this, lots of people hated her for how she expressed herself (pun), and that's a testament to her ability as a performer.
Great foundation for the progression of pop as we know it today.
Fav track: Like a Prayer
This is goooooood. What a classy and sophisticated album, her voice is like honey and carries so much emotion.
The instrumentation is great across the record. So much expression in the brass and sax solos. Honestly don't get how you wouldn't like this, this is a beautiful album. All the songs are great, it's hard to pick a favourite since it changes everytime. But objectively, 'Smooth Operator' is the best by far. What a great listening experience.
Fav Track: Smooth Operator
Not really my thing. There's some interesting ideas musically, and the ambient style is somewhat unique.
But for me, this just lacks much else that interests me. The vocals are nice, not outstanding but nice.
I like weird music so I hoped I would like this more, but just didn't speak to me. I find trying to differentiate the songs quite difficult, they all sound very similar and lack much repetition.
Fav track: The Rip
I think 'Jump' is really the highlight here, it definitely does hold up. The rest of the album is fine, some of the songs are very skeezy and dated which does leave a sour taste.
I like the guitar throughout, the songs are all really elevated by how good the guitar sections are. However this album is not stand-out in any way, really generic hair metal. Not bad, just doesn't offer much variety. However I appreciate that it doesn't overstay its welcome. At just over 30 mins, it's hard for this album to become too boring, it goes on just long enough and that works to its benefit.
I wouldn't turn this off if it were playing, but I'm only going to remember 'Jump' as it really is the only song that really grabbed me.
Fav Track: Jump
Didn't really like this that much. The guitar is good, but overall this album feels very disjointed at points.
Especially dislike the distasteful elements that really didn't age well. Particularly '10 inch record' (I'm not double checking if that's its name cause it sucks).
Anyway, 'Jump' is good.
Fav track: Jump
This is a nice sounding album. It definitely has that indie sound to it, which a lot of people will like.
I'm not too convinced by this album, I don't dislike it. But I think it lacks variation, for my taste at least. This is definitely right up some people's alley, and I will say there are good highlights on the album. But this kind of indie rock isn't really what I'd find myself listening to more often.
I like the instrumentation for the most part, I think it can occasionally feel a bit empty at points but the bass and guitar are generally speaking quite good.
I definitely have people in my life who would love this, just isn't really my thing tbh.
Fav track: Wake Up
I wasn't too sure about this album tbh. On first listen I really wasn't that into it, I couldn't really get me teeth in it and some of the lyrics felt really phoney, especially on 'Heart'.
I decided to really try tuning in on 2nd listen through, and I don't know what changed but something clicked a bit. I felt a lot more of the style and the attitude from Neneh, and that really improved my listening experience.
I think the 1st half of the album is weaker than the 2nd half. The 2nd half really hits hard, and the more experimental style feels very ahead of its time, hard to believe it's not a 90s album.
I have to say I'm more of an outlier about the hit off this, 'Buffalo Stance' just didn't do it for me.
I really want to rate this higher, but that 1st half I just can't connect with fully. It's certainly not bad by any stretch, but even with multiple listens I can't say I'd actively listen to it again. The 2nd half is really good though, really had a great beat and sense of self.
Fav Track: Outré Risqué Locomotive
I don't really know what I expected going into this, probably some more mid rock that I'd have to push through. But I couldn't be more wrong, this really hit for me.
Such a great overall record with tons of great lyrics, instrumentation and just overall style.
It has a very clear Beatles influence throughout, but it is clearly Big Star's own baby. I can't really explain why this works so well, it really hit me hard. The ballads are so good, almost makes me tear up at points with the heartfelt emotion and beautiful melodies.
I was washing my car on a sunny day when I first listened to this and I felt like I was in a movie. Perfect listening experience for this.
Ugh just really enjoyed it. Only complaint would maybe be about pacing and the latter half gets a bit slow. But otherwise really good. I think 'Thirteen' is just lovely, that alone puts it right up there with the best.
Fav Track: Thirteen
Can't lie, really didn't enjoy this. Most of this felt very filler to me.
A lot of people say this is trying to be radiohead at points, and I generally agree with that. Nothing that really impressed me here.
Other than 'Supermassive Black Hole', I can't really say any of the other track will stay with me in any way. 'Kinghts of Cydonia' is decent though the guitar rocking out is pretty good, but it doesn't really sound like the rest of the album to me at least, so it is a definiteoutlier here.
Fav track: Knights of Cydonia
Not really that memorable. Pretty standard dance album, with a big hit. Wouldn't see myself turning to this tbh. 'Groove is in the Heart' is by far a stand-out here, so it holds merit for that reason. But required listening for this album? I would say no.
I do like a good beat tho.
Fav Track: Groove is in the Heart
I didn't really connect with this. I can admit there is merit to this as part of shoegaze, but that's about it. Not something I'd come back to.
Some of the guitar elements work nicely on the more slick rock tracks, but I really struggle to say there's a song here that really grabbed me.
Feels somewhat unfinished, not for me.
Fav Track: Feed me with your Kiss
Bro Ska is not what I wanted to hear today.
I'll give it this, the album has good instrumentstion and i cant say i was ever bored at points. But ska just doesn't connect with me at all, and this sounds like every Ska band I've ever heard.
I'd tell others to give it a go, back this feels somewhat lacking at points.
Fav Track: I can't stand it
Bro what can I say. It's the freaking Beatles.
Not necessarily my favourite Beatles but still there's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said.
Fav Track: Octopus's Garden
This was Russian roulette for good songs. The title track, for me at least, really works and holds up today. And then the rest of the album happens....
I can't lie, there's probably 3 songs here that I even remotely like. I can't stand the fucking stop start thing that she keeps putting in. It irritates the life out of me as it has no purpose and without an interesting melody and exceptional vocals, it just grates on the ears.
For me, Madonna has never been an album artist, but the hits here are not enough to justify having this be a must listen.
I don't hate this, but this is a serious decline for Madonna at this point. And given that 'American Life' is next in her discography here, I'd say that this album set her on a path that would kill her relevance to popular culture.
Fav Track: Music
Ok this is pretty good.
I really like this album, Tori Amos has always been an artist I've liked and this record is no exception. From the moment this starts, to the very end I throughly enjoy this.
So many great vocals and interesting melodies, and I love her lyricism too. Tori just rocks, and I can't say much else. Her variety of musical influences is so good, and the piano usage across the record really pulls everything together.
The only gripe I have with this, is that I feel that towards the end, there is a bit of a lull and you feel the album drag a little.
I'm conflicted on giving this a 5, I really enjoy this. But it's not something I would listen to all the time. Its a great album, but purely because I like a lot of Tori's other stuff a bit more I'll stick with a 4.
Actually, scratch that it's getting a 5.
Fav Track: Crucify
I can tell this is probably the only Neil Young album I will even remotely tolerate.
There's nothing special here, very much something your dad puts on in the car and that's your cue to pop headphones on.
I mean it isn't the worst, given that Young doesn't have his signature style of vocals yet and this is a very brisk album.
I just have very little to comment on, none of the lyrics are very interesting but are clearly aiming to be somewhat profound. And the production of the album is really weak. Probably doesn't help this album has been virtually wiped off all streaming except yt playlists.
The guitar sections are fine, again very mid. This is peak boomer era music.
Fav Track: Cowgirl in the Sand
I quite like this. Dusty has such a lovely voice and she is able to create such vivid imagery through this. The blues influence is so nice, the album has a very timeless feel to it and really resonates today still.
'Son of a preacherman' is the stand out by far, but the whole album flows well and it doesn't really have many lows. The opening to this album sets the tone so well and really gets you excited for the album.
Great stuff, really influential even up to today.
Fav Track: Son of a Preacherman
It's decent, a pretty good feminist and punk adjacent album. It has a good few high points, and this will really work for a lot of people.
It's just simply, not really my thing tbh. I like parts of this and the more genre mixing style tracks click more with me. But overall it's not really something I would be coming back to. Give it a try though, it may be your thing. Maybe if I had a metro card...
Fav Track: Deceptacon
This just made me smile. So many great songs and lyrics. They clearly had a blast making this album together and it bleeds into everything about this.
I love when an album isn't afraid to be silly at points, and I just enjoy having a laugh at the interludes. The rhymes are just great, what a classic hip hop record that just ages like fine wine.
Only gripe is with '3 is the magic number', purely because I have heard it in every ad under the sun so it makes it hard to enjoy. That's not really the albums fault tbh.
But it terms of music, the album is just over an hour, and at no point did I feel it drag or start to become overly repetitive.
Fav Track: Buddy
I like this but not overly so. Honestly I'm just not a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, this just isn't really my thing.
I like parts of this when the guitar just takes over and really just jams out but it doesn't really stand out to me. I get that Hendrix is really influential to rock and modern music, but this is just alright to me.
Fav Track: Purple Haze
My inner boomer swoke for this, I'm scared.
I like this more than I'm willing to admit, I really can't say I'm a Neil Young fan but this surprised me at points.
This album opens really strong, the first few tracks really caught me off guard. I was shocked that I actually liked Neil Young music. The first 3 tracks in particular are really good. I'm not gonna lie, his voice is still extremely noticeable tho. But I can tolerate that of the music is good, and he pulls that off for over half the album.
It kinda falls off after 'Lonesome Me' and I start to realize why I don't like Young. But I'll give you this Young, this made me understand why boomers like you. But seriously, have a listen at 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart'.
Fav Track:Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Whilst this isn't my personal favourite Joni Mitchell album, this is still a beautiful and emotive album that captured your heart in such a profound way.
I prefer Mitchell in her later years as both her voice and themes feel more in-depth and deeply personal. But this is not to say she completely lacks that here.
The tracks are gorgeous and her voice flutters with a lovely intonation. It's hard to find a fault with this, so many highlights.
She is truly a generational talent.
