I was excited to have my first five star album that was new to me. The first two songs had me. But it fell off for me after that. Still overall great!

I really like the sound of his rapping. If there was a less explicit artist that was the same vibe and sound, I think I would love it. Call me a virgin ears, but it’s how I feel. I don’t like the intro, interlude, or gun sounds.

These acoustic guitars are singing soul.
This made me realize how much Jack White’s ability as a lyricist is too often overlooked. “The Denial Twist” was a highlight for me.
Lovely from start to finish. A couple of glimpses of rock n roll heaven here: the keys on “Chest Fever” are banging. “The Weight” feels eternal.
Easy listening, and not boring ever. Loved the sounds, the steadiness, and it was smooth like Skippy.
I’ll give this one the “Christmas Morning” award. It’s full of greatness and surprises I never even knew I wanted.
Masterpiece. Nostalgia notwithstanding, this may be the best album I’ve ever heard. Number one out of 1000+.
It starts with the smoothest, creativest rhythm section (bass+drums) combo and goes top notch until the final bow where everyone gets a solo to say goodbye, before one more itty bitty curtain call because that’s Fab.
I mean, I know they are highly lauded. So, a bit of the Radiohead effect here. The lyrics are really great! But it was just a little bit of a summer for me that never gained heat.
Wow. I think this is the closest. I’ve listened to lyrics yet. And those vocals, so haunting! Granted, he was on his deathbed when he made this album. I think. Also, what a lesson for me as a performer in being understated. Wow. I listened to this twice. So many elements that play here for me.

I got a very early-MTV vibe. And I’m not mad about it.
Surprisingly, I found this incredibly irritating. Title track rocks of course. Other than that, I was annoyed.
When I was a kid, I bought some CDs and my uncle Mark asked me, “What do ya got there? Are those music or are they noise?”
This album, Uncle Mark, is noise.
This grew on me as the album went along. It’s why you gotta listen all the way. Still a bit of the Radiohead effect at play for me here. “Rock You” was too raucous… It was like trying to listen to a song while being pelted with pea gravel from all directions. I really liked “The Seed” though. Prob a 2.5.
I liked it a lot. It just needed a soupçon of something to get to a 4. Maybe a few more listens.

Fun story… THIS is one of the two CDs I bought that my uncle Mark questioned if they were music or noise (the other was Monster by REM).
Maybe I’ve gotten old because even though I still feel Nevermind is top tier, this felt like…noise.
Catchy stuff. But when I saw it was by the Kinks, I was excited, then listened, and it was disappointing for the band that did Sunny Afternoon and You Really Got Me.
Like I said at six years old after trying orange soda, “That’s good pop.”
A true 2.5 for me. But I’m feeling on the positive side.
But these Byrds have nothing on the similar-era and recent Kinks.
I like the tear down of San Quentin and the bigger message it gives about how he cared for prisoners.
It was just meh.
