1001 Albums Summary

It sounded good. But it did not move me. HERE IS MY SCALE: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Essential: One of the greatest albums ever made. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent: A great album I’d happily revisit and recommend. ⭐⭐⭐ Good: Worth hearing. Glad I listened, but not something I’ll return to often. ⭐⭐ Weak: More misses than hits. Probably won’t listen again. ⭐ Bad: A chore to finish. I regret spending the time.

I liked it. Confident and consistent sound.

I kept waiting for something to happen.

Good fun. Great sounds.

I fully acknowledge that I am missing something about Radiohead. I know. I am willing to learn. But I just am not getting it.

It was all right. It grew on me as it went along. Didn’t like the gun sounds.

Listening from the context of 1960, these is some raunchy sounds. I respect it. It’s like the canvas the rest of rock n roll painted on.

Discount Louis Armstrong. I’ll take the real thing.

I dig it

Couldn’t find a hook. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Essential: One of the greatest albums ever made.

Never listened to them before. Good stuff.

As satisfying as fried chicken to a hungry belly from the first notes.

Queen is a hits band. Not a deep cuts band.

A couple five star songs

I like Yusuf. Nothing unexpected when I listened though.

Fun. I could see getting more into it upon repeat listening

2 for me until I heard WAKE UP

Is it a five star album because I’ve loved it for so long or have I loved it so long because it’s a five star album?

I can hear early Goo

I was excited to have my first five star album that was new to me. The first two songs had me. But it fell off for me after that. Still overall great!

“Want this cup o tea, Shaun?” “Nah, it’s not mine.”

Masterpiece.

I listened a few times because I kept forgetting I listened. Didn’t make much of an impression on me. Not bad sounds, but kinda snooze worthy.

We got the funk!

Meh

Meh also

Cool

The Radiohead effect

Not as good as Out of Time. A few greats here, but not all the way through.

My God why?

I really like the sound of his rapping. If there was a less explicit artist that was the same vibe and sound, I think I would love it. Call me a virgin ears, but it’s how I feel. I don’t like the intro, interlude, or gun sounds. 3.5 Who can I listen to that’s similar but more G rated?

I’ll say 2.5

Kinda humdrum

1.5. It was a bit intense for me but “All in the Family” really took it down a notch for me and it never recovered.

Zzzzzzzzzz

These acoustic guitars are singing soul.

This made me realize how much Jack White’s ability as a lyricist is too often overlooked. “The Denial Twist” was a highlight for me.

Lovely from start to finish. A couple of glimpses of rock n roll heaven here: the keys on “Chest Fever” are banging. “The Weight” feels eternal.

Easy listening, and not boring ever. Loved the sounds, the steadiness, and it was smooth like Skippy.

I’ll give this one the “Christmas Morning” award. It’s full of greatness and surprises I never even knew I wanted.

Masterpiece. Nostalgia notwithstanding, this may be the best album I’ve ever heard. Number one out of 1000+. It starts with the smoothest, creativest rhythm section (bass+drums) combo and goes top notch until the final bow where everyone gets a solo to say goodbye, before one more itty bitty curtain call because that’s Fab.

I mean, I know they are highly lauded. So, a bit of the Radiohead effect here. The lyrics are really great! But it was just a little bit of a summer for me that never gained heat.

Wow. I think this is the closest. I’ve listened to lyrics yet. And those vocals, so haunting! Granted, he was on his deathbed when he made this album. I think. Also, what a lesson for me as a performer in being understated. Wow. I listened to this twice. So many elements that play here for me.

Wow. Never heard this before and not generally my sound, but every now and then something comes along that just hits exactly right at the exactly right time.

Always liked Rufus and wanted to listen to a full album. I wanted to like it more.

Yeah, sorry. 1969 Josh Groban doesn’t do it for me.

Outstanding voice, outstanding energy.

Meh. Better than I thought it would be though.

This is to music what a toddler scribbling crayons on the wall is to visual arts.

Before: Oh wow this is only 30 minutes? Thats a quick album. During: Holy harmonicas, is the half hour over yet?

Much lower than I thought for a Fleetwood Mac album. This grade is as strong as it is thanks to the title track.

I mean, it was fine. I liked the hits best.

Classy. No complaints, just not something I’d ever put on myself to listen to.

Sorry, not special

A couple of no doubters home runs on here.

Legendary. Nice to listen to.

First I’ve ever listened to this legendary band. I liked it. I could see enjoying it more on repeat listens. I loved the flute in “My God.” I had to finally make this so I could clear up my own ratings in my head… ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Essential: One of the greatest albums ever made.

I got a very early-MTV vibe. And I’m not mad about it.

Surprisingly, I found this incredibly irritating. Title track rocks of course. Other than that, I was annoyed.

When I was a kid, I bought some CDs and my uncle Mark asked me, “What do ya got there? Are those music or are they noise?” This album, Uncle Mark, is noise.

This grew on me as the album went along. It’s why you gotta listen all the way. Still a bit of the Radiohead effect at play for me here. “Rock You” was too raucous… It was like trying to listen to a song while being pelted with pea gravel from all directions. I really liked “The Seed” though. Prob a 2.5.

I liked it a lot. It just needed a soupçon of something to get to a 4. Maybe a few more listens.

If this is what heaven is like, sign me up.

Kooky and cool.

Somewhere on this album, she said “I’m headed to church to play Bingo.” Somehow, that sounds more fun than listening to this album again.

I loved the sound. Loved it. I just wish I got a whole album of songs. The instrumentals here felt like filler.

Wow! So. Many. Bangers. Respect to you, Adele.

Like I yell to strangers when driving down the highway, “Dude! Pick a lane!!!”

Perfectly serviceable rock n roll. 3.5

Fun story… THIS is one of the two CDs I bought that my uncle Mark questioned if they were music or noise (the other was Monster by REM). Maybe I’ve gotten old because even though I still feel Nevermind is top tier, this felt like…noise.

Catchy stuff. But when I saw it was by the Kinks, I was excited, then listened, and it was disappointing for the band that did Sunny Afternoon and You Really Got Me.

Like I said at six years old after trying orange soda, “That’s good pop.”

A true 2.5 for me. But I’m feeling on the positive side. But these Byrds have nothing on the similar-era and recent Kinks.

I like the tear down of San Quentin and the bigger message it gives about how he cared for prisoners.

It was just meh.

I enjoyed it.

Amazing. So many genres, styles, and sounds. A masterpiece.

I could fall either way between 3 and 4. Well go 4 today for his lyrics. Another day, his sharp harmonics might push me to a 3.

I thought I’d like it more. I was sadly underwhelmed. Loved the melodies most. Needed more magic though.

Track 1: All respect to Dolly (and friends), but this just ain’t my sound. Track 2: Okay, all right, I feel the vibes of being on the blue bayou. …. Track 5: You go wild with the flowers on those hills, girlfriend!!

Good title track. Bored thereafter.

Great. Nostalgic. I knew more than I thought.

This album is laced with the divine. A spiritual collection of melodies, lyrics, riffs and more from a spiritually gifted artist. No skips!

A few years ago, this album came to me at exactly the right time. The understated heartbreak.

I really like the sound, but like the Biggie album, I realized I like my music PG-13

Top. Notch. Rock.

Surprising and fun. I dig it. Prob a 3.5 but I’m feeling optimistic.

Dece

I dig Common. This didn’t hold my attention as much as I’d hoped though.

It was fine.

A little meh considering there’s a five star song on here.

A nice instrumental surprise.

Just okay

This is not music. Unlistenable.

This seems like something I should rank high. But it was just a bit loud for me. Maybe it was my mood?

Fun instrumental

Classic. Lennon/McCartney gold.

I have a live LO of his. And it rocks hard. But this was mid for me.

No complaints

I ain’t got time for this.

See track four for review.

Made me think of my dad and the background music I heard as a kid.

It did for me what early Ray Lamontagne albums did for me.

Yesss.

Jim Steinman’s songwriting is a blend of rock and theatrical that speaks directly to me.

Just great.
