1001 Albums Summary

With more relistens I think I would start to appreciate this album more, but right now I find a lot of the details about the album lost in the fuzz.

At first impressions, just by the name of the band and the album cover, I was expecting either a satirical metal band or a very generic metal band with a bit of country mixed in. Listening to the album I learned its satirical at all, but I still like it. I find with a lot of metal the singing sounds essentially the same for all the songs with just different, barely audible, lyrics. I loved the singing in this album and of course with metal I love the the instrumentals. The country was confined to "Alcohaulin' Ass" which certainly was a song.

I love the riffs and that bass is glorious. I think I just wasn't a big fan of the singer and the lyrics. The cover of How Soon is Now is, if I'm not crazy, basically a cover by lyrics only, and I'm not too big of a fan. Still an overall good record 7/10

Not something I would usually go out of my way to listen to, but still a pleasant listen. I lowkey found the album sounding a little bit samesy throughout it but thats probably just because its my first listen. My favorite song is probably Zionsville.

Moanin' (Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers) Moanin' - 10 Are You Real - 9 Along Came Betty - 7 The Drum Thunder Suite - 9 Blues March - 8 Come Rain Or Come Shine - 8 The song Moanin' itself has so many different layers all of which perfectly blend into one masterpiece of a song. I usally think jazz songs can be too long, but it uses the 9 and a half minutes to the max. A must hear regardless if you like jazz. The call and response on Are You Real are so smooth and so gorgeous. The Drum Thunder Suite has such an interesting composition with some of the most unique drums I have ever heard in Jazz, they really make the drums the centerpiece of the song with the instruments following along. Overall a 9/10.
