Popular Reviews

Check Your Head by Beastie Boys

It's appalling that this isn't in the main list. These guys introduced hip-hop to the rock enthusiasts. The racial barrier breaking, genius sample use and pioneering of that bridge between rock and hip-hop screams in this album. Perhaps not their best or most iconic, but still a great album!

Uncovered by Zamilska

Liked this way more than I thought I would. Took me a while to settle into it, but it grew on me! Atmospheric and dark at times. Pretty cool. Will have to listen a few more times.

When It Falls by Zero 7

This is a great album. Not sure if I liked this one or "Simple Things" more. The tracks with Sia and Sophie Barker are as good as ever. I WILL listen to all their albums today :D

Crack the Skye by Mastodon

This is a great metal album, but I'm not a massive fan of Mastodon in honesty. There's a lot of repetition, but overall it's important listening. Probably deserves to be in the main list over all the other shite.

Almoraima by Paco de Lucía

Truly phenomenal! As a guitarist I appreciate the skill, the passion and intensity delivered from every song. The album really resonates with me. Time is impeccable, even throughout the fast picado the groove remains, the control is perfect and it sounds so relaxed and effortless. I'm in awe by the colour he brings with the classy jazz voicings and modal shifts. Magnificent and inspiring!

Come And Get It by Rachel Stevens
Jun 04 2025

well, well, my first from the user submitted list. I had a girlfriend who claimed she was Rachel's cousin. Her mother confirmed, but I was always a little dubious about this. Anyway, this is your typical pop written and produced to be catchy and profitable. Can be sung by anyone and it would sound mostly the same whether S Club (fka S Club 7), Pussy Cat Dolls, Girls Aloud, Little Mix, Cheryl Cole... etc etc. I'm not a fan, but it's fine.

Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie
Jun 05 2025

An interesting album. There is something I like about them, but I'm not really sure what. It has a certain quality visible only if you're not looking for it as it's hidden beneath the music and the page it's written on. It's somehow simplistic and yet weaves a certain complexity I can't always get my head around. After a while it had a very straight line, no ups and downs. I would listen again, and will probably listen to some other albums.

Ultra Blue by Hikaru Utada
Jun 06 2025

J-pop, always makes me want to play Final Fantasy or watch more anime (you can never watch too much). She certainly has a great voice. It's chirpy and bright, listenable, but nothing for me to get excited about. I got a bit bored 1/2 way through. I don't tend to listen to any J-pop, I prefer J-rock and J-metal but I don't seek that out much.

Sublime by Sublime
Jun 09 2025

Funky reggae rock crossover. Interesting and relatively enjoyable. But like a lot of reggae it got a bit repetitive. Perfectly listenable though.

For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver
Jun 10 2025

Never really bothered with Bon Iver, and if I'm honest I only know a few songs of theirs because of Kina Grannis, Imaginary Future and Kate McGill, like "Re: Stacks". There's some good stuff on the album. Generally easy listening, some simple guitar and peaceful vocals.

Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk
Jun 11 2025

Not at all what I was expecting. Found it rather underwhelming.

Because the Internet by Childish Gambino
Jun 12 2025

Some good tracks, but I didn't click with it overall. Production is good, but I wasn't particularly wowed.

Stretch 2 by Arca
Jun 13 2025

Not for me. Weird robotic sounds. It's like AI decided on the genre it most liked, because it was created by a sexy robot.

Tales Of Mystery And Imagination by The Alan Parsons Project
Jun 16 2025

I warmed up to it. It's a good concept. Didn't always enjoy the vocals, but the musicianship is ace.

God Shuffled His Feet by Crash Test Dummies
Jun 17 2025

I've aways enjoyed "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm". I regularly sing it around the house in the deepest voice I can in imitation. His voice is unique and enjoyable, although it goes get a bit much after a while. An enjoyable album nonetheless. Aside from "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" I liked "Afternoons and Coffee Spoons", but I knew that one anyway.

Djarimirri by Gurrumul
Jun 18 2025

I tried a few times to get into it. It has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' but I just couldn't really get into it.

Pop by GAS
Jun 19 2025

it's alright. lo-fi electronica. Reminds me of being in a shop that sells spiritual items like crystals, incense, aromatherapy oils, dreamcatchers and chakra charts. Went well with my GitHub pull request testing.

Out Of Time by R.E.M.
Jun 20 2025

Not a fan of R.E.M really. I get that "Losing My Religion" is a massive track, but it's incredibly overplayed. "Shiny Happy People" and "Near Wild Heaven" are pretty good, but otherwise the rest is a bit bland. Maybe a greatest hits would be better.

Game of Fools by Koritni
Jun 23 2025

This really hit the spot! Back-to-back bangers. Really got into it, very energetic and enjoyable. Great accompaniment for my Friday afternoon. More like this will be very welcome!!!!

Songs Of A Lost World by The Cure
Jun 24 2025

Big fan of The Cure. This is another great album from a great band. Quite surprised to see this one on the list so soon, but great. I actually recently listened to this and their new "Mixes" version of the album. The atmospheric feel with Robert's voice and incredible lyrics are just amazing. "A Fragile Thing" is truly magnificent, very classic The Cure. The album as a whole is thoroughly enjoyable.

L'Heptade by Harmonium
Jun 25 2025

Interesting. Wasn't so sure about the prologue, but the rest was worth listening too. The keys are exceptional, drums are energetic and the overall musicianship is immaculate. Unique and hedonistic, despite the language challenge.

The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
Jun 26 2025

I remember when this was released, my sister was a huge fan. I always liked this album. Full of energy, incredible vocals and interesting political undertones. "Teenagers" and "Welcome to the Black Parade" were huge hits.

Alive Or Just Breathing by Killswitch Engage
Jun 27 2025

I have "My Curse" and their cover of Dio's "Holy Diver" in some other playlists, but not heard this album. "The Element of One" and "Rise Inside" are proper bangers!!

Clarity by Jimmy Eat World
Jun 30 2025

Repetitive, a little underwhelming, but there's a few good tracks.

Out of the Blue by Debbie Gibson
Jul 01 2025

Cheesy 80s girly pop, very Madonna. Enjoyable enough. "Foolish Beat" is well done, "Fallen Angel" reminds me of a Van Damme movie. Good guitar solo on the title track, a good dose of sax throughout and overall good feel.

Live in San Francisco by Thee Oh Sees
Jul 02 2025

A live user submitted album. What a shame. I can't do live recordings as I've said umpteen times throughout my reviews. Live recording isn't great, but I don't particularly like the studio versions either, so... Usually like this genre, but sorry this one isn't for me.

Englabörn by Jóhann Jóhannsson
Jul 03 2025

Some of the songs here could qualify for a Zelda game. Calming and melancholy, but very repetitive.

Script Of The Bridge by The Chameleons
Jul 04 2025

The first track from The Chameleons I heard was "Nostalgia" from their album "What Does Anything Mean?" which lead me to this album straight after. "Less Than Human" and "Second Skin" are bangers, remind of me The Cure. I can almost hear Robert singing them. "Monkeyland" is one of my favourites There's variety and mood changes throughout. The Cure meets The Smiths. Magnificent album.

Souvlaki by Slowdive
Jul 07 2025

It's not bad, maybe a little generic, but enjoyable enough.

Jul 08 2025

Weird, mixed up genres, obscure lyrics. Had to turn off "Spinal Meningitis", too much for my weak ass. Not bad, but not really for me. Too much strangeness.

Music For People In Trouble by Susanne Sundfør
Jul 09 2025

Intricate, haunting and melodic. Peaceful in a certain way, morbid in others. I can't quite put my finger on how I feel when I listened. Interesting and challenging for sure.

Ænima by TOOL
Jul 10 2025

Beast of an album. Dark, heavy and atmospheric!

Yeti by Amon Düül II
Jul 11 2025

I just don't dig much of the 70s, especially psychedelic, hippy, rock. Some songs were explorative and others relatively stable. Vocals were not to my taste. In all it just wasn't for me.

My Brain Hurts by Screeching Weasel
Jul 14 2025

I was clawing at my ears trying to find a single point of U2's career that had something worth listening too, gave up and landed on this. Energetic, raw, punk rock with short burst songs that have enough variety to draw you in without feeling you've had enough. I was going to go with a 4, but they saved me from U2 and their "About the artist" post on Spotify is "Went to a Ramones show. Started a band. Pissed a lot of people off.", which warrants a 5.

Dilate by Ani DiFranco
Jul 15 2025

Alanis Morissette meets Sheryl Crow? This is pretty cool. Sad I've not heard this before. "Dilate" is really great. As has been said already, she does sound like Alanis Morissette but there are other elements to her style that I can't put my finger on that separate her from being "the same" as Alanis.

Recipe for Hate by Bad Religion
Jul 16 2025

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 anyone? Bad Religion are a great punk rock band and this is a great album. Enjoyable stuff from start to finish.

Chet by Chet Baker
Jul 17 2025

This is a top Jazz album. Chet has done some truly spectacular records.

Sing To God by Cardiacs
Jul 18 2025

Not really for me. Vocals are not strange, challenging listen.

Stranger In Town by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
Jul 21 2025

I like a bit of Bob Seger. You can't go wrong with "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "We've Got Tonight". "Ain't Got No Money" is a banger. Lots of classic hits in one album is a winner for me.

Version 2.0 by Garbage
Jul 22 2025

This should have been in the main list along with their debut self titled album. I remember buying this on its release after loving their first album. "I Think I'm Paranoid", "When I Grow Up", "Special" and "Push It" are superb tracks, the rest follow the magnificent musicality and vocal genius.

Triage by David Baerwald
Jul 23 2025

Didn't like the opening track and it kind of spikes up and down for me. Some songs a good, others are mediocre and some are just not to my taste.

Geogaddi by Boards of Canada
Jul 24 2025

I like Electronica, but I can't listen to it all day. This is a good album, but seems to be missing something. Enjoyable with a chill out vibe.

Zuckerzeit by Cluster
Jul 25 2025

I'm in a bad mood today, you could say "morgenmuffel", after a bad night. This isn't what I thought it would be and was quite glad it wasn't some complex, over produced, space rock, nonsense. The chill-out vibe, instrumentals were exactly what I needed. The last few songs did get a bit weird though. If I was in a good mood perhaps my review would be completely different. Oh well.

The Shape Of Jazz To Come by Ornette Coleman
Jul 28 2025

This is a great Jazz album full of genius musicianship. Enjoyable, provoking, energetic and complete. Very nice.

Piledriver by Status Quo
Jul 29 2025

Typical, mediocre, 70s blue rock. Nothing worthy of shouting about. Vocals are not for me at all. Thought this would be a little better, but to be fair I don't really like their top hits like "Rockin' All Over The World", "In The Army Now" and "Whatever You Want".

Last Splash by The Breeders
Jul 30 2025

This is great. I love "Divine Hammer", "Drivin' on 9" and obviously "Cannonball". Plenty of other great tracks along the way. Really enjoyable grunge rock record. Will definitely have to listen to more.

Dimanche à Bamako by Amadou & Mariam
Aug 01 2025

Something different is always welcome. Groovy, rhythmic and well produced. Interesting and enjoyable.

Goat by The Jesus Lizard
Aug 04 2025

Not bad, but became a little grating after a while. Maybe the vocals? Perhaps just not for me today. I'll try another day and see if it's more appealing.

WORRY by Jeff Rosenstock
Aug 05 2025

Good punk rock album. Never heard of Jeff Rosenstock so it was completely new to me, no expectations. Enjoyed listening whilst playing some Balatro+.

"Awaken, My Love!" by Childish Gambino
Aug 06 2025

Pretty funky, some serious bass lines. "Redbone" is a banger. Very much worth the listen, it's enjoyable.

Come On Over by Shania Twain
Aug 07 2025

Hmmmm... Not a fan of Shania Twain. She has a great voice and some of the guitar riffs have something to give, but the overall samey, pop-country, shimmery, line dancing sound gets old very quickly. I know she was incredibly popular at the time and tracks like "Man! I Feel Like A Woman", "From This Moment On", "You're Still The One", "That Don't Impress Me Much" (all on this album, albeit slightly different versions to the radio singles) were top hits and I would probably sing a long if someone were to put them on for some fun, but it's not for me. 3 because she made it, she was hot af and there are some decent guitar riffs (plus the classical guitar and vocals on "You've Got A Way" are smoking).

The Beautiful Letdown by Switchfoot
Aug 08 2025

Their entry on the list is deserved and I'm pleased it's there. This is a great album from a great band. Diverse sound, good vocals. I kind a like to think they're a mix of Goo Goo Dolls and Ash. Someone mentioned they're not Christian Rock, while that's true it's clear to hear the Christian influence in some of their lyrics, you've just got to believe ;) As someone who likes to consider himself a Christian, I'm sticking with that and you can't change my mind :D Enjoyed this album.

After Hours by The Weeknd
Aug 11 2025

I've always had a hard time trying to understand why he's one of the most streamed artists on Spotify, but then I have a harder time understanding why Taylor Swift is _the_ most streamed artist. Anyway, I did my best at "hearing" this album. I'll admit he has some pretty good tracks on the album, namely "Blinding Lights" with its 80s style synth-pop and redemption lyrics which remains the most streamed song on Spotify. Possibly over played, but it's still a good track. "In Your Eyes", again 80s feel and some great saxophone, "Save Your Tears", again the synth is prominent, but it has a slightly different feel. I prefer the remix with Ariana Grande, but it's still a good song. The album overall has an 80s throwback feel with an experimental genre blend. It's a smooth fusion and cleverly produced with cinematic and dark themes. I can't take away the appeal of that... buuuuut I do feel it's a little repetitive and the production takes away some of the emotion in the songs. Other than the top hits, I don't find much else in it. For me it's a low to mid 3.

Alive 2007 by Daft Punk
Aug 12 2025

I do like Daft Punk and I'm sure this was an amazing show, but I don't do live albums. The sound quality is pretty good and there are a lot of the big bangers here, except there are the screams and whoops from the crow that I just don't wanna hear. It's good, but live just brings that score down. As I always say - give me a compilation instead. 3.

We Rock Hard by Freestylers
Aug 13 2025

fffreeestylers... rock the microphone... Nope, wrong group. A few bad reviews for this one, but why so harsh. It's a good album for the genre it's in, I think perhaps underrated. It is, however, from the 90s and is therefore not so relevant now. Should it be on the list? I think that's objective, but I don't see why not. There are some hard beats, some great jams and some smooth raps. Maybe it's a little too long, but I liked it. I won't be going back frequently or anything, but it's still good. It did motivate me to pull out some more from the genre and dig into the 90s drum and bass movement. "Scratch 22 (Jay-Rock's Theme)" is a great track with some fun samples in there, especially Pulp Fiction. "Ruffneck" is good too.

Vedergällningen by Garmarna
Aug 14 2025

Not for me. Some songs were okay, but I couldn't get into it.

People by The Burning Hell
Aug 15 2025

Don't know on this one. Some interesting tracks, vocals and lyrics are a bit whacky sometimes. In fact, I was a big fan of the vocalist in general. Didn't dislike it, but didn't love it. 3.

Continuum by John Mayer
Aug 18 2025

This is one of John's best. Haters are suspicious Swifties so can be safely ignored. Anyone suggesting he's not a great guitarist can also be ignored. Love this album.

Aug 19 2025

I know of The Vaccines and know a few of their tracks, but never heard this album. I like "If You Wanna" although I'm not a big dan. "A Lack of Understanding" is better IMO. The rest was alright, but nothing amazing.

F♯ A♯ ∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Sep 01 2025

Atmospheric and cinematic, mysterious and dark. Not really for me though.

Sep 02 2025

Ok, I wasn't expecting to like this, but I was surprised. it's catchy and moody. I feel like she's a balance between Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter with a mix of other female pop figures. Pop isn't my taste, but there are some pretty good tracks on this album based off her experiences of love and hate. I'd listen to it again.

Rêver mieux by Daniel Bélanger
Sep 03 2025

Not bad. Has a nice mellow sound, gentle lyrical delivery. Sadly I don't understand the lyrics which took away some of the enjoyment. Overall though it's pleasant and better than some of the crap on the standard list.

Telefone by Noname
Sep 04 2025

Cool hip-hop. I'm getting Jill Scott meets Lauryn Hill. Very enjoyable.

I like The 1975 and I like this album, but I'm sad I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. I honestly thought I was going to be blown away. "Sincerity Is Scary" is a great track as is "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)". "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)" is a great exit track. There are some songs in the middle that are not as well placed for this album, such as "The Man Who Married a Robot / Love Theme" and "Inside Your Mind". Even "TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME" is mediocre. I think I prefer their debut album, but overall this one is enjoyable. It's a very high 3/low 4, it doesn't feel right giving a 3.

Stories by Avicii
Sep 08 2025

I like Avicii. There are some bangers on this album, but I didn't love it like I thought I would. I was super hyped for it, Friday at 16:00, but alas.

Operation Ivy by Operation Ivy
Sep 09 2025

What I'd expect for punk/rock/ska album/band. Definitive sound, energetic and raw. Remind me of Tony Hawks Pro Skater. Enjoyable listen.

Join Us by They Might Be Giants
Sep 10 2025

Not really for me. Got a bit fed up of the vocals. Some interesting songs though. Listenable.

Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera by Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera
Sep 11 2025

Another 60s album, I won't keep saying it... It was alright though, some songs were better than others, mostly just mediocre though.

Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Sep 12 2025

Energetic and raw, maybe a little repetitive. Fun and relatively enjoyable but I wouldn't go back frequently.

All Hail West Texas by The Mountain Goats
Sep 15 2025

Started off well, but the Lofi sound started to bother me after a while not to mention some of the lyrics. Musically repetitive, overused chords and strumming patterns. Interesting nonetheless, far better than some of the crap on the main list.

McDonald and Giles by Ian McDonald
Sep 16 2025

I didn't quite get this one, sorry. To be fair, there's not very much 70s music I do like, particularly of this genre. It wasn't bad, just not really for me.

The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists
Sep 17 2025

I prefer the female vocals, but overall it's good. Never heard of them before so something new for the ear'oles. I did feel it was little long and the intro was unnecessary.

In Between Dreams by Jack Johnson
Sep 18 2025

When this came out JJ grew popular, fast. Something different for everyone to dig. It's perky, quaint and chill all at the same time. I always liked some of his little riffs and chord progressions. My wife has listened to this a lot, so I know it well. It's good, but not spectacular IMO. Enjoyable enough for a 4.

Up To Here by The Tragically Hip
Sep 19 2025

This is pretty good. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Opening track is solid. Good rock album, enjoyed it.

Relatives in Descent by Protomartyr
Sep 22 2025

Musically pretty great, but vocals didn't do for me. Overall it's not bad.

Oncle Jazz by Men I Trust
Sep 23 2025

Cool, new age coffee house jazz. I love the vibe and the vocals. It's very easy to listen to and enjoy. It's not truly amazing, but it's very good. 4.

Bob Mould by Bob Mould
Sep 24 2025

For me it was a little unseasoned, but it was perfectly listenable.

Sep 25 2025

Not a big De Burgh fan at all. Really wasn't expecting much, and I didn't get much. I know "A Spaceman Came Travelling", which tends to get played at Christmas, I can never quite understand why. I don't mind that song so much, but the rest is less than mediocre. It's quaint, it's different, but it's not really for me.

BABYMETAL by BABYMETAL
Sep 26 2025

Errr... I wasn't ready for this at all, not sure I still am. This is incredible. What a blend. J-pop and heavy/death metal to become kawaii metal. There's even elements of happy trance, SKA and house in there. The whole time I am imagining some kick ass anime series. Enjoyable, but can get a bit much toward the end.

You & I by Rita Ora
Sep 29 2025

I like some of the stuff that Rita has done throughout her career. She's a bit samey, this album included. It's not bad by any means, but it won't win any Brit awards.

Repetition by Unwound
Sep 30 2025

Mostly enjoyable, but it's not exceptional due to its repetitiveness. 3.

Choirs Of The Eye by Kayo Dot
Oct 01 2025

Pretty solid album, probably deserves to be in the main list. It bridges the gap between "metal" and "avant garde metal" traversing the nuances of the two. It's subtle, but powerful and full. Quite enjoyed it. Wayfarer was great!

Don't Say No by Billy Squier
Oct 02 2025

Enjoyable, classic Rock. Not really heard much of his stuff before. good chops, riffs and solos. Feels a bit generic, but enjoyable enough.

Oct 03 2025

Not so sure about the fusion with Hip-Hop, but it's decent anyway. Wasn't particularly blown away. Perhaps they're a little like RHCP, but I think they're different enough to be a style in their own right. Enjoyable enough, but not quite a 4.

HELLYEAH by HELLYEAH
Oct 06 2025

Seems to be a lot of unnecessary hate for this album. Yes, they're similar to Pantera, but there are other elements from other styles and bands. It's heavy, it's loud, it's fun and I liked it. It's got what it needs for a good metal album to thrash around to. Would give a 4, but I'll go 5 because it needs it after all the hate.

Oct 07 2025

Oh boy, I got sick of the live albums in the main list now they're being suggested? And this one's a double!! :/ It's funky, energetic and relatively fun... but it's live!

Take to the Skies by Enter Shikari
Oct 08 2025

Not really into Enter Shikari, but I can see how some are. There's a lot of energy and some great sounds. The cross in genres is not new here, I do think that others have done slightly better even though they did traverse the genres differently, but this isn't a bad album.

Bon Iver by Bon Iver
Oct 09 2025

For me there is a time and place for Bon Iver. Today was that day. It's warming and soothing. I won't say I'm a huge fan, but they have a unique sound that is enticing, even if just for a while. Fav song "Beth/Rest". If you like Bon Iver and haven't already heard of Kina Grannis, Imaginary Future, Meadowlark and Kate McGill then go check them out.

Oct 10 2025

Not bad this one, didn't know what to expect. But it's very mainstream, nothing exemplary.

Fuzz by Chucklehead
Oct 13 2025

ooooh, fresh and funky. "Flavourful Bouquet" was like Snoop Dogg had changed genres. Full of groove with a bit of edge to it. Acid Jazz coming through, some fuzz guitar, musical flavour. "Try And Move Me" was a kick ass track. Liked this album, great for a Friday afternoon.

Witness by Modern Life Is War
Oct 14 2025

This is decent hardcore. Although I'm not a huge hardcore punk fan I liked it. Perhaps wouldn't have gotten much further if it wasn't relatively short though. 3.

Blue Is The Colour by The Beautiful South
Oct 15 2025

I know these songs very well, my parents would listen to them a lot. I always enjoyed their tracks, I would play some songs on guitar while I was learning. Paul Heaton's voice has always clicked with me, I like his style. I do prefer the original female vocals from Briana to Jacqui, but Jacqui did well too. I can't go lower than 5, not possible. Nostalgia does play a part in that yes, but I do like listening to TBS.

Bloody Kisses by Type O Negative
Oct 16 2025

Challenging this one. It started off well, but started to slump towards the end. It's like Crash Test Dummies meets Marilyn Manson. Found some songs really great, and others not so much. Overall good enough to listen to.

Grace And Danger by John Martyn
Oct 17 2025

Interesting. Calm, restful and smooth. Jazz elements shine through with some great bass lines. You can hear the influence and input Phil Collins must have given whilst providing drums and backing to the album. I want to give it a 4, but I feel it dragged on a bit. There were some nice tracks though. I tried, but I can't go 4, it has to be 3.

Phantom Power by The Tragically Hip
Oct 20 2025

Vocals wasn't much to my liking, too much warble in his voice. Musically very decent. Some really great tracks among the mundane, "The Rules" stuck out for me. I can see why everyone is referencing R.E.M.

A Live One by Phish
Oct 21 2025

A-nother live one, oh boy. Don't get me wrong there was some great jams, noodling and jazzy sounds. However, it's too long and live. Listenable for a short period of time.

10,000 Days by TOOL
Oct 22 2025

A killer album! Not their best, but still amazing. Love TOOL.

Human Racing by Nik Kershaw
Oct 23 2025

"Wouldn't It Be Good" is a classic, I remember hearing it in the car on the way to school sometimes. The rest of the album is pretty generic new wave pop, typical of the 80s. It's good enough. It's nostalgic and comfortable. Someone mentioned that people only add nostalgic music to the user list. I don't think that's true, but if it is, that's okay with me. 3 because most of the album is at least listenable, 4 for nostalgia ;)

Apostrophe(') by Frank Zappa
Oct 24 2025

Zappa was a genius, I won't deny that. This album has some good tracks but some are just mediocre. I've never really dug much of his stuff. I think this is probably the best that I've heard.

Oct 27 2025

Interesting album name lol. Wasn't really for me, but it's alright. Musically well done, vocals aren't always great. Good to see non-English rock represented, I'm sure it was significant in Spanish speaking countries in the 80s/90s. Probably won't listen again though.

Emotional Mugger by Ty Segall
Oct 28 2025

It didn't sit well with me, sorry. I tried hard, perhaps it was the time of day, or perhaps I don't have the talent to get it (which is probably more likely). I found it hard to differentiate when a song ended and started as they were quite samey, at least until "Squealer Two". I kind of enjoyed "W.u.o.t.w.s", but it was a bit odd, "The Magazine" was cool though. Maybe like QoTSA meets Arctic Monkeys? I don't know.

Fantasies by Metric
Oct 29 2025

I liked this actually, pretty fun. It started off really strong, seems to plateau too early. Still, I enjoyed it. Really liked "Satellite Mind", reminded me of a Mega Drive or SNES 16-bit game. Some good vocals throughout.

Blizzard Of Ozz by Ozzy Osbourne
Oct 30 2025

Love Ozzy, love this album! 'nuff said!

Squeezing Out Sparks by Graham Parker
Nov 03 2025

As others have pointed out - reminded me of Costello. This is a decent album, will listen again and to some other albums. Nice one for a Friday afternoon.

Gordon by Barenaked Ladies
Nov 04 2025

Not really for me. It's not bad though, about listenable. 3 because of the nod to The Housemartins in the opening track "Hello City". There are a lot of elements from The Housemartins and The Beautiful South through the album.

MOMENTUM by Calibro 35
Nov 05 2025

Funky, groovy, chill. Relatively enjoyable, but nothing out of this world. Could probably listen again.

Uncovered by Zamilska
Nov 06 2025

Liked this way more than I thought I would. Took me a while to settle into it, but it grew on me! Atmospheric and dark at times. Pretty cool. Will have to listen a few more times.

Nov 07 2025

Decent indie rock, but didn't get much out of it. Was listenable and pleasant enough.

Nov 10 2025

Never heard of M83, although I know "Midnight City". Enjoyed listening to this one while walking the dog, taking in the nature surrounding me, nobody bothering me. Pleasant experience. Quite enjoyed the story of the LSD trip caused by a frog lol.

Nov 11 2025

It is a bit long for sure, not really the greatest hip hop album, but it's alright. Didn't listen to "disc 2". 3.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen by Joe Cocker
Nov 12 2025

Another live album on the user submitted list. Too much talking, quality isn't half bad for the 70s, but I can't stress enough how I dislike live albums. Can't deny Joe Cocker is incredible, he has some amazing hits but none are here. His talent shines throughout this live album, but I don't do live albums. Makes me sad to give a low score to such talent.

The Monitor by Titus Andronicus
Nov 13 2025

Not bad. Mix of indie, rock and punk. Some interesting lyrics and musicality. Didn't like it all, 2nd half went a little downhill. I lost interest in the vocals, it started to get a little annoying.

Ruin by The Amazing Devil
Nov 14 2025

Not really for me, I don't enjoy folk in any combination usually anyway. It's not bad though, some good vocal ranges they have. Produced well.

Beautiful Midnight by Matthew Good Band
Nov 17 2025

Pretty decent! Don't think it's worth a 2, but I can see how some find it "run of the mill". I liked it enough for a 4.

The Lion's Roar by First Aid Kit
Nov 18 2025

Another Indie-folk submission. I don't like this fusion of genres and this album is no exception. There are a few not terrible tracks, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. Sorry.

Fashion Nugget by CAKE
Nov 19 2025

I know a few of the songs on this album. Not a big fan, but it's not bad.

Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World
Nov 20 2025

It's okay, but a bit too "teenage dirtbag" for me. Some relatively good songs, some I know, most I don't. I'll give an another listen some time, maybe some of their other albums. Perhaps they'll grow on me.

The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads by Lift To Experience
Nov 21 2025

Not at all what I expected. Not a bad album at all. Decent indie rock with something original, like "These Are The Days". Occasionally he sounded like Bono, which I didn't much like. I could hear a variety of different sounds from other bands that I likened them to. There were a few songs I didn't particularly like (particularly "Down Came The Angels" and "With Crippled Wings"), but it doesn't deserve a 1 or a 2, shame to see those reviews.

METAL FORTH by BABYMETAL
Nov 24 2025

Another BM album? Okay, fair enough. It wasn't bad, mostly enjoyable. Plenty of good tone and riffs, solos, etc, but I won't listen out of choice really.

How To Be A Human Being by Glass Animals
Nov 25 2025

Decent indie pop with some interesting beats and large sound. Produced well and mostly enjoyable. Saw them live at NOS Alive 2025 in Lisbon, they were pretty cool live, but not really for me.

I Need to Start a Garden by Haley Heynderickx
Nov 26 2025

Not a fan of folk, but this is decent indie folk. Didn't love all songs, but it's well put together and more listenable than most folk. Like most folk, IMO, it's a bit samey and her voice (while relatively pleasant) doesn't make it more interesting as the album goes on. Some well played guitar parts to break up the monotony. Quite liked "Drinking Song".

Nearer My God by Foxing
Nov 27 2025

Listenable, but nothing special. I tried, but had a hard time getting into it. Skipped a couple of tracks. Not for me this one.

Come On Come On by Mary Chapin Carpenter
Nov 28 2025

I used to always hate country, but have learnt to tolerate it and in some cases appreciate it. There are some artists I enjoy, but it's quite limited and even then not all songs are enjoyable. This is not bad at all, it's definitely more on the enjoyable side than tolerable. Again, some songs I didn't much like just about tolerated, but "Rhythm of The Blues", "Only A Dream" are pretty good. The cover of "The Bug" isn't bad, but I'm not the biggest Dire Straits fan anyway. Can't go above a 3 though, sorry.

Sound Awake by Karnivool
Dec 01 2025

Can hear the influence from tool. It's not bad, but I didn't love it like I thought I might.

Nightbirds by LaBelle
Dec 02 2025

Can't deny the famous "Lady Marmalade", Patti did great with this track for sure and the group really made it something. As for the rest, it's soulful, funky and pleasant. Enjoyed it more as it went on. I think it's underrated. Great addition to the list.

Alexisonfire by Alexisonfire
Dec 03 2025

Pretty cool, enjoyed it whilst lifting! Will check some more of the discog.

Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws by Bruce Cockburn
Dec 04 2025

Not half bad this. Didn't know what to expect. The sparkly guitars and finger style picking are fun. Some good bass to give it some depth. Vocals are good enough for me. "After The Rain" is a good one. Strangely my least favourite is the most played, "Wondering Where The Lions Are". Overall I enjoyed it.

Before These Crowded Streets by Dave Matthews Band
Dec 05 2025

This is a good album. It's familiar, enjoyable and well produced. Perhaps not their best album, but good all the same.

Watch Out! by Alexisonfire
Dec 08 2025

Wow, 2nd Aleixisonfire album in 3 days lol. These guys are great. I was going to listen to their discography after the last time, but didn't get time yet. I think I like this one a little more than their self titled album.

Real Life by Joan As Police Woman
Dec 09 2025

I like some Nick Cave, but this isn't great at all. It's not bad by any means, but not for me. Usual melancholy, poorly delivered poetry.

Symbolic by Death
Dec 10 2025

Metal at its finest. Solid riffs, solid solos, plenty of thrash in there. Really great stuff here!

Dec 11 2025

I understand the love of this album. It has a peaceful, elegant and harmonious vibe. I found it a tad too slow, but I guess that's the point. Sometimes the drums are exquisite, the vocals are mostly on point and the calm, controlled musicality shines. There were moments I found it good, but ultimately it was middle of the road for me. Sorry.

Dec 12 2025

Relatively decent punk album, but I'm not a huge fan of punk. I can't fault it though, it's well done and "does exactly what it says on the tin". I like the various nods to modern pop culture like "10 points to Gryffindor"

Once by Nightwish
Dec 15 2025

I do enjoy some symphonic metal and Nightwish are one of the best. Production is great and the integration of the London Philharmonic is epic. An incredible farewell album for Tarja Turunen. Don't often go back to Nightwish, or symphonic metal for that matter, so a 4 (but a very high 4).

Inside by Bo Burnham
Dec 16 2025

Okay, no, sorry this does not qualify as something I should hear before I die, unless I'm deaf of course. Trying too hard, it's just terrible. I drew the line at "Sexting" and moved on with my life.

Puzzle by Biffy Clyro
Dec 17 2025

I do like this, though perhaps not the best known or their best work. Still enjoyable. Vocals are great.

L'autre... by Mylène Farmer
Dec 18 2025

At first I thought "No!" and then gave it a change. It's not bad. It is a bit Madonna and sometimes a little Simply Red. Interesting.

Separation Sunday by The Hold Steady
Dec 19 2025

Cool album. It's gritty and musically very enjoyable. Vocals and lyrics interesting, but get a little much after a while. Still enjoyable though.

The Fame by Lady Gaga
Dec 22 2025

Quite surprised this isn't in the main list. I'll admit I used to be repulsed by Lady Gaga and anything she released, but now I think she has a brilliant musical mind. My respect for her and her work have greatly increased since she did the 3rd remake of the film "A Star Is A Born", with Bradley Cooper. She's a good soul and to have created such a great piece of work at a mere 21 is impressive.

Deep Down Happy by Sports Team
Jan 05 2026

Pretty cool. It’s a nostalgic record like what I remember from Keane, Kaiser chiefs et al. Liked it.

Wildflowers by Tom Petty
Jan 06 2026

Now don't get me wrong, I like a bit of Tom Petty and I occasionally listen to "Free Fallin'". I don't really go out of my way though, and although I enjoyed this it just didn't do much for me.

Homogenic by Björk
Jan 07 2026

I know some of Bjork's main singles, never really been interested enough to venture into her discography. This one started off okay, but by the end I'd had enough. Creative? Yes. Enjoyable? not overly. Sorry.

Act IV: Rebirth In Reprise by The Dear Hunter
Jan 08 2026

There's something about this I enjoyed, just not quite sure what it is. It's familiar somehow. Reminds me of Panic! At The Disco or maybe Fallout Boy a little, but there's something else. Enjoyable, but I didn't love it.

Jan 09 2026

This is rather interesting. There are some good tracks here, some are rather unpolished but that adds to its overall enjoyment in some way. It's better than a lot of drivel in the main list.

Contra by Vampire Weekend
Jan 12 2026

Sorry, couldn't get into this one. Melodic and all, but it just didn't grip me. I feel there are better indie bands for a reason.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
Jan 13 2026

Some good songs, but for the most part it was a bit samey and vocally boring. Nothing worth taking to my grave.

When It Falls by Zero 7
Jan 14 2026

This is a great album. Not sure if I liked this one or "Simple Things" more. The tracks with Sia and Sophie Barker are as good as ever. I WILL listen to all their albums today :D

Jan 15 2026

Not bad, but it didn't really do it for me. The blues influence was well noted, but the mix with country and electronica wasn't really my cup of opium.

Jan 16 2026

Well this is weird. It reminded me of some old games like "Silent Hill" and "Batman Arkham Asylum". Strange concept. I didn't hate it. Somehow found it incredibly eerie. 3.

Pinkerton by Weezer
Jan 19 2026

I don't mind Weezer. This is a mostly decent album, but I don't think it's their best. It's raw and authentic though.

Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars
Jan 20 2026

It's calm and peaceful and all that, but folk doesn't really do it for me.

The Mantle by Agalloch
Jan 21 2026

I appreciate what they've done, and for the most part it's good, but I found it was little samey after a while.

From The Lions Mouth by The Sound
Jan 22 2026

Didn't mind this. I'd just finished _trying_ to listen to U2, but that's never gonna work for me. I did find them a little U2, but someone mentioned The Cure in their review and I can hear that. I guess it got better as it went long. Didn't love it though.

Stormcock by Roy Harper
Jan 23 2026

Not really sure how I feel about this. It's very folky and the songs are a bit too long. The guitar is great, but it's buried beneath other stuff I don't care for. Shame.

Pulse by Pink Floyd
Jan 26 2026

Look, I like Pink Floyd as much as anyone, but live albums are a no for me, and 2.5 hours?! 3, only because it's PF.

Under The Pink by Tori Amos
Jan 27 2026

I love Tori's voice. This one is much better than the album "Little Earthquakes", and "Cornflake Girl" is a banger! Didn't love it though, had a few dead spots.

Look Sharp! by Joe Jackson
Jan 28 2026

Well, this is a good one. Better most of the 70s shite we've had to endure from the main list, as well as a plethora of live albums. I know some of these songs somehow, just don't know how or when that would have been possible. It's refreshing to see something decent from the 70s.

Brand New Eyes by Paramore
Jan 29 2026

Not my favourite album, but still amazing! Top choice, should have been in the original list.

Forced Witness by Alex Cameron
Jan 30 2026

Appreciate the 80s sound, but didn't find much else worth taking away. Maybe a little corny at times.

Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
Feb 02 2026

Great pop punk album. Very much enjoyed. Never heard of them before so will use this opportunity to explore more.

Quadrophenia by The Who
Feb 03 2026

Probably better than some of their other albums from the main list, but I'm not a fan of The Who (as I said copious times in reviews of their other albums). When they do some solid rock tracks their sound is pretty great! There are some good tracks, but I won't be going back to this. I skipped over a few tracks, and disc 2 is pointless.

Ants From Up There by Black Country, New Road
Feb 04 2026

Not terrible. I enjoyed a few tracks, but on the whole it was just okay. I didn't enjoy the vocals really.

Angel Dust by Faith No More
Feb 05 2026

I like Faith No More and I love their cover of "Easy". It's true that this does have a wider variety of influences, it's certainly a broader representation of who they are. Darker in many respects, perhaps powerfuler[sic]. I still prefer "The Real Thing" over this one, but it's by no means a lesser album. I gave "The Real Thing" a 5, so this one gets a 5 too.

Almoraima by Paco de Lucía
Feb 06 2026

Truly phenomenal! As a guitarist I appreciate the skill, the passion and intensity delivered from every song. The album really resonates with me. Time is impeccable, even throughout the fast picado the groove remains, the control is perfect and it sounds so relaxed and effortless. I'm in awe by the colour he brings with the classy jazz voicings and modal shifts. Magnificent and inspiring!

Nail by Scraping Foetus off the Wheel
Feb 09 2026

Didn't enjoy this one much. Sorry.

Speak for Yourself by Imogen Heap
Feb 10 2026

Not bad. Enjoyed it more than I thought, not my usual cup of opium though.

Piano Bar by Charly García
Feb 11 2026

Actually enjoyed this. Wasn't sure at all to begin with, but it progressed well. Good soft rock record. Instrumentals are decent, vocals are pretty great (wish I understood more Spanish). I sometimes heard elements of The Scorpions.

News at 11 by Cat System Corp.
Feb 12 2026

Didn't much like listening to it on YT, but that's besides the point... I actually enjoyed this, it's smooth and cool. Maybe a little but too "elevator music" at times, but overall it was good.

I Am by Earth, Wind & Fire
Feb 13 2026

Damn! You have to love EW&F. The bass line hits hard in basically every song. The funk and groove, the sax and the soul are just to die for. Superb album, better than the one included in the main list. So many influences and "borrowed" samples. Banger after banger. Superb!

Canciones 1989-2013 by Extremoduro
Feb 16 2026

You know, there are some good sounds here. It has some good rock, grunge, punk tracks. I don't understand enough Spanish to enjoy it fully unfortunately and being 3 hours I gave up after a while as there's only so much I could listen to. It's not really album either is it, but hey ho.

Autobiografia by Duncan Dhu
Feb 17 2026

Doubt I'll listen again, but it's not bad. Decent pop-rock/soft-rock sound, some ballads included. As many have mentioned, it's a little too long which reduces its appeal.

Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay
Feb 18 2026

Not bad this. Wasn't sure what to expect. Not into much pop, but this one is pretty good. The electronic side is probably what reached out to me. Might listen again tomorrow.

Feb 19 2026

This is pretty great. Exactly what you want from a mid-90s grunge/alternative album. Top sound, great vocals. Enjoyable throughout, but I really like "The Pod".

"Weird Al" Yankovic by "Weird Al" Yankovic
Feb 20 2026

You know, I don't dislike Weird Al and he probably deserves a place on the list. There is some genius behind what he does, but it's not choice listening for me. Some songs he did are pretty great, others not so. "Another One Rides The Bus" for instance is pretty clever. It gets a bit old after a while. You kinda just wish he did something more serious. But you can't deny he cashes out as the master of parody music.

City Of Evil by Avenged Sevenfold
Feb 23 2026

I thought I liked Avenged Sevenfold, perhaps I should, but they aren't as good as I thought they were. A few good tracks, but I don't love the vocals. Some superb solos and riffs though.

Crack the Skye by Mastodon
Feb 24 2026

This is a great metal album, but I'm not a massive fan of Mastodon in honesty. There's a lot of repetition, but overall it's important listening. Probably deserves to be in the main list over all the other shite.

Somewhere In The Between by Streetlight Manifesto
Feb 25 2026

I struggle with Ska, it doesn't really do it for me. It's not bad by any means, just not for me.

Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen
Feb 27 2026

I took my kids to see Justin Bieber a long time ago (sat in the gods), CRJ was supporting. I can't deny she's good live and this isn't a bad pop album at all, certainly better than her first. It's proper pop, better than Taylor Swift and has some similarities to Robyn. Not a pop guy at all (but I do like some pop, ngl), so giving it a 3 is generous. I can't go beyond that, because there's no reason for me to listen to this again.

Afrociberdelia by Chico Science
Mar 02 2026

The first time I heard of "Zumbi" was from Soulfly's "Tribe". Anyway that's beside the point. This is a good album in honesty, I didn't absolutely love it and might not listen to all of it again but there are some good take away tracks like "Macô" and "Um Passeio No Mundo Livre". If my 2nd language wasn't Portuguese I'd probably not like it at all.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Various Artists
Mar 03 2026

I've seen the movie, admittedly not a fan, bit before my time. The album of songs doesn't do much for me, but it's not bad.

Slip by Quicksand
Mar 04 2026

Actually enjoyed this. Picking up some Tool vibes, a bit of Bush and A little Korn. Not sure why I've not heard of them before. I'll have to check some of their other albums. 4.

Thunder And Consolation by New Model Army
Mar 05 2026

I like a bit of NMA, but I'm not big on them. Vocals aren't really for me. They're a decent post-punk band though and there are a few good tracks on this album. I can imagine this album being good live.

Blonde by Frank Ocean
Mar 06 2026

You can't dislike Frank Ocean, he's a great artist with some top tracks. This is probably his best album, with some of his best hits. My kids would kill me if I hated on it.

Sparkle In The Finish by The Ike Reilly Assassination
Mar 09 2026

Hmmm, didn't like it at first, but "Holiday in NY" reminded me of another band, just can't think who right now... I dunno, I can hear President of The USA, maybe a bit of Offspring and some Goo Goo Dolls. It's not bad at all, but a bit strange sometimes. Don't think I'll be going back.

Lahai by Sampha
Mar 10 2026

Not bad, similar feel to Common. I found it a little samey, didn't take much from it. Decent enough to be in the list though.

GLOW ON by Turnstile
Mar 11 2026

This is a good punk/alt album. It has energy, melody and great musicianship. It's not particularly unique, this style and sound has been done before but it's still a good album. Will explore more.

London 0 Hull 4 by The Housemartins
Mar 12 2026

Always enjoyed The Housemartins, mostly Paul Heaton (and therefore I also always enjoyed The Beautiful South, but that's a different story). This is a great indie rock album, some superb hooks and vocals. You can't dislike this one.

30 Something by Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine
Mar 13 2026

I was there for this, I completely forgot about Carter USM. Not quite as good as I remember, but I was much, much, younger. Still good, just not for me anymore.

A Beginner's Mind by Sufjan Stevens
Mar 16 2026

Didn't click with this one like I thought I might. Bit too folky for my taste. 3.

Cold Fact by Rodríguez
Mar 17 2026

A couple of good songs, the rest is just bloat. Sorry.

Young Team by Mogwai
Mar 18 2026

Bit of a rollercoaster, I couldn't quite put my finger on what I did and didn't like. I need to listen to it again in a different environment to see how it changes my experience. Enjoyed "Summer - Priority Version" and "Mogwai Fear Satan" a lot more than the rest.

Check Your Head by Beastie Boys
Mar 19 2026

It's appalling that this isn't in the main list. These guys introduced hip-hop to the rock enthusiasts. The racial barrier breaking, genius sample use and pioneering of that bridge between rock and hip-hop screams in this album. Perhaps not their best or most iconic, but still a great album!

Up by Great Big Sea
Mar 20 2026

Sea shanty does nothing for me (nor does folk generally speaking). Vocalist sounds a bit like Adam Duritz of Counting Crows at times (usually just the folky, less sea shanty tracks). Feel like I've heard this somewhere before. I dunno. Not really for me though.

Six by Mansun
Mar 23 2026

I like Mansun, but this one for me isn't as good as "Attack of the Grey Lantern" or "Little Kix". It's good, inventive and brilliant even, but exhausting in some ways. It's almost as if they said "Lets do something completely against what everyone liked about the last album and everything that made us popular". I like a bit of prog rock which they've captured here, but it's perhaps too experimental for my taste.

Maestro by Kaizers Orchestra
Mar 24 2026

Didn't know what to expect, I actually enjoyed it. Didn't understand the Norwegian, but who cares, the music was great. Consistent throughout, well worth listening to.

Neon Golden by The Notwist
Mar 25 2026

Couldn't get into this one, but it was pleasant enough to listen to.

Weezer by Weezer
Mar 26 2026

Among the thickets and weeds of the original list should be this one, a break from the monotony that we got, but alas. Weezer's debut, self-entitled album is by one of the best of it's time. Easy 5!

Older by Lizzy McAlpine
Mar 27 2026

Indie pop/folk, not usually my bag, but this was better than I expected. Sometimes reminded me of Colbie Caillat or Kina Grannis. Pretty decent. Better than a variety of other "top" artists who would mistakenly receive a 5 star just because.

Toxicity by System Of A Down
Mar 30 2026

Superb choice, yet another that should have been on the main list. I remember the release of this. Was great then, amazing still now. Easy 5

Poesía Básica by Extrechinato y Tu
Apr 07 2026

Well, I wasn't expecting much from this, but it was actually really decent. Enjoyed it, despite having almost no understanding of Spanish.

Apr 08 2026

Grew on me more and more as it went on, was quite enjoyable. A solid hard rock/alt rock album, worthy of being in the main list IMO. Good choice.

Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon
Apr 09 2026

Hey, this ain't bad. Not sure why I've not heard this guy before. Decent blend of rock, folk and humour (which I generally don't really like). Enjoyed "Werewolves of London" and "Excitable Boy".

Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
Apr 10 2026

Wasn't expecting this to be as good as it is. Fun, quirky, inventive and energetic. A great blend of ska, punk and pop. "Dead Man's Party" is a top track and "Weird Science" was a pleasant surprise for the end. I'm off to watch the film now, not seen that since I was a young teen.

Korn by Korn
Apr 13 2026

I saw a lot of hate for "Follow The Leader", the hate seems less for this one. I love this album as much as "Follow The Leader", it's where it all started after all (both for Korn and Nu Metal).

Sunbather by Deafheaven
Apr 14 2026

I can appreciate this kind of "blackgaze"/post-hardcore stuff. I can also appreciate this is one of the more defining bands/albums of "blackgaze". However, I do sit in the critics camp of the genre as a whole and of this album. It has too much of a "samey" sound, it's not incredibly diverse, the repetition is not really for me. Compared with black metal it's rather soft. With that said, I think the songs (and lyrics) could be better portrayed with a more subtle approach, but I do get it from an artistic POV.

Get Fucked by The Chats
Apr 15 2026

This fucking kicks ass! A well polished punk album that keeps that authentic raw sound. Incredible stuff. Loved "Panic Attack"! They kicked ass at Coachella too!!

Dear You by Jawbreaker
Apr 16 2026

Decent. Reminiscent of some Tony Hawks Pro Skater. Vocals got a little tedious after a while, but overall it's good.

Psychic by DARKSIDE
Apr 17 2026

I know Paper Trails well, not really heard anything else until now. It's good, at least decent enough background music with some coffee and late night convo. Not sure I'll reach for this again.

The Decline by NOFX
Apr 20 2026

Yeah, it's an EP. Who cares, it's music and it's pretty great. Will check out some of their albums. Much needed for a crappy start to my Tuesday! Thanks.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson
Apr 21 2026

This is pretty phenomenal if I'm honest. There were some songs I didn't quite get, but I replayed it and it sunk in a bit better. I really liked "Ancestral". It's a strong blend of 70s-style prog, kind of Genesis like, with some big emotional hooks that seems to be very Manic Street Preachers and some rock-opera from The Who, all wrapped up in a modern production and a tightly focused concept. I will have to explore more of SW's offerings.

Circles by Mac Miller
Apr 22 2026

Smooth, mellow, listenable hip-hop. Usually like a bit of hip-hop, but didn't get much out of this one. RIP Mac.

Transient by Gaelle
Apr 23 2026

I like this. Jazzy, R'n'B meets dance. In some songs I felt a hit of UK Garage. Has a good chill out vibe and good vocals. Decent.

Misplaced Childhood by Marillion
Apr 24 2026

Why is this not on the main list?!?! I know Marillion for "Kayleigh", "Lavender" and many others not on this album, but shamefully never given them enough of my time (guilty as many others it would seem as they were never a massive band). This is a top album, I'm upset to have not heard it before. Concept albums (especially those trying to tell a story) can be a bit hit or miss, but this one is a hit IMO. The opening run "Pseudo Silk Kimono" -> "Kayleigh" -> "Lavender" -> "Bitter Suite" is incredible, very satisfying and smoothly transitioned. I do think that "Heart of Lothian" is a bit of an early climax, but that doesn't retract anything from the album. The closing tracks are a triumphant resolution to the story that brings hope. There's a lot of power and dramatic builds throughout but it's contained and elegant. The guitar and keys are sublime, lyrics are poetic and raw.

I And Love And You by The Avett Brothers
Apr 27 2026

Folk is like Marmite, except I like Marmite. Not objectively bad by any means. I found maybe three songs tolerable, some were actually pleasant. The latter stage of the album is better than the former, but overall not for me. 3 (upgraded from a 2)

Silent Alarm by Bloc Party
Apr 28 2026

Not bad. Some elements I enjoyed, others not so much. It's high energy with a prominent blend of post-punk and indie-dance, but it was a far reach in my opinion.

Boys And Girls in America by The Hold Steady
Apr 29 2026

This was very enjoyable. There's a lot to be said for this band, I should listen to more of their work. I hear a cross of Counting Crows v Dave Matthews Band v Hootie & The Blowfish. There are some roots there for sure, but The Hold Steady have a grittier, perhaps more rugged, punk-infused style that really sets them apart.

Peasant by Richard Dawson
Apr 30 2026

Sorry, but I couldn't tolerate this. I did try, but ultimately gave up like a disgruntled child asking their parents for ice cream on a snowy, winter's day. Folk is just not for me.

Nurture by Porter Robinson
May 01 2026

This is a good album. I've always enjoyed Porter Robinson and the feeling he brings with his tracks. I remember hearing "Language" for the first time and was in complete awe, then it was included in the Forza Horizon soundtrack which remains as one of my favourite racing sims. You can't fault this album, it's vibrant, emotional and exceptionally raw. You have to love "Look To The Sky" or you're somehow dead inside.

Relationship Of Command by At the Drive-In
May 04 2026

Pretty freaking good this one. Tried to find bands that are thought were melded between the songs, but decided it's just good enough being what it is. It drives hard - thrashy and powerful whilst keeping a delicately melodic sound that allows you to feel it.

Body Talk by Robyn
May 05 2026

I've liked Robyn since she did "With Every Heartbeat" on her self titled album. This one should be on the main list for sure, shame it isn't. Magnificent album with some top tunes.

II by Espers
May 06 2026

Don't really like folk, but this isn't bad. Tranquil early morning listening at least. Mystical and whimsical.

Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 by Bruce Springsteen
May 07 2026

Yep, sorry, I have to agree with the majority on this. I like Bruce, even in this live album he's amazing! But really, another live album?! I just can't do live albums. Every time someone releases a live album, a fairy dies... Fairy lives matter! 2, because it's live but I've given a 3, because it's at my favourite venue - so many great memories of gigs at the Hammersmith Odeon.

Metallic K.O. by The Stooges
May 08 2026

What is it with people and live albums? Not a fan of The Stooges as it is, this is just diabolically awful. Low quality, repetitive noise.

Odyssey Number Five by Powderfinger
May 11 2026

Run of the mill alternative rock, not bad just nothing spectacular.

Latin Mass by Os Mundi
May 12 2026

I don't generally mind this kind of prog rock, as long as it's not filled with too much experimental, noodling, organ. This isn't at all bad, rather inventive to mix a Catholic liturgy with rock in this way. Not sure I'll listen again, but it was an experience I at least appreciated.

Welcome To The Beautiful South by The Beautiful South
May 13 2026

I like The Beautiful South. I had high hopes of getting this one in the main list, so thanks to the user for the submission. They deserve a place in the main list. Someone else submitted "Blue Is The Colour"(another good one), but I prefer Brianna's vocals over Jacqui's. By far my favourite TBS album. Wish I could go higher than 5, but there we are.

endin on a high by Slim Krusty
May 14 2026

Some songs aren't bad, others a bit OTT IMO. It's raw, guitar is quite well done, vocals sometimes questionable. "messy pinkman" was certainly interesting. Don't think I'll listen again.

Promises by Floating Points
May 15 2026

Mellow with some amazing sax. Though I appreciated it and it stirred some dreamy feelings, I'm not sure I quite "got it". Will I try again? ...Probably not. There was a single moment where I thought someone was plucking and rubbing the bow up/down a violin, but it was someone making audible noises by warbling their tongue around. I tried to take it seriously, but ultimately laughed out loud because I'm childish like that. I composed myself and carried on.

Rose Mountain by Screaming Females
May 18 2026

Not bad, their sound is pretty good. Guitars on point, creative and enjoyable riffs, but vocally disappointing. Somewhat repetitive, but overall okay.

May 19 2026

Pretty good. A good blend of genres that is subtly familiar. Political, explosive, fully charged, post-hardcore album. Bit long though.

Life Goes On by Carla Bley
May 20 2026

Classy, cool and smooth af. Listening while sipping my morning cafetière coffee in my best slippers was great, if only I'd put my suit on. Great stuff!!

The Evil One by Roky Erickson
May 21 2026

Not really sure about this one. It started weak and got a bit better as it went on. Some catchy licks and riffs, but vocally challenging for me.

American Football by American Football
May 22 2026

I enjoyed this and I've never heard of them which perhaps is strange, or not. They have a lot of streams, so they must be important somewhere. It's a genre I don't tend to explore, I do perhaps think there are other bands that did it better... I dunno. Anyway, reviewing for what it is it's pretty good. Bridges and traverses a few genres. I listened to some of their other stuff and I think this album might not be my preferred, but I'm intrigued enough to listen to more.

Tindersticks by Tindersticks
May 25 2026

Melancholy and somehow tragic. Like others have mentioned it's very reminiscent of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. I tried to listen to it differently, but that's what I kept going back to. Didn't really get into it much, mostly forgettable.

May 26 2026

You can't go wrong with Savatage, superb metal band! Perhaps not my favourite album, but still great!! \m/

The Sunset Tree by The Mountain Goats
May 27 2026

Of course, more folk rock. Generic jingly-jangly, folky, poppy, "rock". Forgettable, repetitive and vocally irritating. Not for me, I suppose.

Pfft, more folk, of course. But is this really folk? I always feel like I should like this genre, but I'm reminded yet again why I don't. It's pleasant, don't get me wrong, but vocally frustrating and overall just plain boring.

May 29 2026

Interesting submission. Never heard of these guys. They're like an Indie/alternative rock band with undertones of Britpop. Liked it, but not sure I loved it. Doves did a similar thing I think and maybe Arcade Fire. I can dig it.

Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend
Jun 01 2026

Another one? I couldn't get into the last one, this one was mostly the same. I just think there are/were better indie bands. Other than "Pravda" (which I thought was a top track) nothing particularly stood out for me and although there are some interesting hooks, baselines and guitar work, I found it repetitive overall.

Loss Of Life by MGMT
Jun 02 2026

Not bad, but a tad repetitive. There are some decent tracks like "Bubblegum Dog", but on the whole it's rather bland.

Not Animal by Margot & The Nuclear So And So's
Jun 03 2026

Pleasant, but nothing amazing. Regrettably forgettable.

Moffou by Salif Keita
Jun 04 2026

I really enjoyed this. Bursting with colour, musical tradition, local and international culture at a perfect crossroad in musical history. You can pull out so many international influences that blend smoothly and yet keep the traditional Malian sound. The acoustics, guitar patterns and textures, the rhythms and melodic vocals, all create a trance like feeling. It's beautifully pulled off.

Ida Con Snock by Michael Hurley
Jun 05 2026

<sarcasm> More folk, yay! </sarcasm> it's pleasant, listenable, but not for me. There's enough folk in the main list, and now more than enough user submissions.

Singles by Future Islands
Jun 08 2026

Didn't enjoy this one at all, cut it short and moved to something else. Vocally and musically dull. Sorry.

Jun 09 2026

Can't deny the glory of this album/compilation. We needed someone to represent the mighty Louis. Great choice - phenomenal trumpet and enjoyable tracks.

Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown
Jun 10 2026

Started off a bit weak IMO, but I got into it a little. Some great beats and lyricism, but his voice became a little grating after a while. Maybe a slight bit repetitive, but overall it's decent.

Hello Rockview by Less Than Jake
Jun 11 2026

Decent album this. Gotta love some punky, pop infused ska. Great addition to the list.

Shibuboshi by SHIBUSASHIRAZU
Jun 12 2026

I listened to some of it, but it wasn't as readily available on YT as I hoped - Link just presented search results (and not good ones). Kinda gave up searching and didn't like the lives. 3 because I couldn't judge properly.

El Circo by Maldita Vecindad Y Los Hijos Del 5to. Patio
Jun 16 2026

Expected to hate this, but actually enjoyed it. Deserved of a spot in the list.

Whipped Cream & Other Delights by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
Jun 17 2026

What a delight indeed. Like sunshine poured into a trumpet. Easy listening, jazz-pop with some mariachi influences and orchestral arrangements that are catchy and endlessly pleasant. It's crisp, upbeat and sophisticated. Loved it. As for the cover art... Gulp!

No Talking Just Head by The Heads
Jun 18 2026

Interesting. A few great songs, a few okay, a few are not for me. Overall it's not bad, but nothing I'll jump back to any time soon.

WE ARE by Jon Batiste
Jun 19 2026

Solid RnB/soul/jazz album. Enjoyable.

Jun 23 2026

Solid punk album - angry, powerful and abrasive. Exactly as it's supposed to be.

Jun 24 2026

I like Eels and this is a pretty good album with some well known tracks. I do think I'd enjoy a shorter "greatest hits" type of compilation. The vocals get a little repetitive after a while. Still decent though.

Trouble Will Find Me by The National
Jun 25 2026

Pretty good indie album, but didn't get much out of it if I'm honest.

Tomorrow Belongs To Me by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Jun 30 2026

Started ok, dropped significantly. Vocals not for me.

Jul 01 2026

Someone referred to this as "Girl grunge", hahaha. Anyway. This is quite decent. Punky alternate rock, similar to other girl bands of the age (or perhaps just female vocalists). Kenickie, Republica... etc etc. Enjoyed this one more than I expected to.

St. Jude by Courteeners
Jul 02 2026

This is pretty good. Sometimes these types of bands can be so cliché and repetitive, but these guys seem to keep it fresh throughout. Enjoyable.

Jul 03 2026

Am I the first reviewer? Well, let's see. I wasn't expecting to like this, that it would be typical 70s garbage experimental, drug fuelled rock. Instead I thought it was great. It's down to earth, poignant and vulnerable. Full of good guitar work (acoustic, Spanish and electric), masterful songwriting with a seamless blend of humour, romance and melancholy. Pleasantly surprised. The snap of that telecaster in "Rapid Roy" is making me desire that butterscotch blonde telecaster I've been looking at for a while now. Where's my credit card?!

Feed The Animals by Girl Talk
Jul 06 2026

This is actually quite enjoyable. A lot of good sampling and mixing, creating mashups and interesting blends. You could use the album as a game when you're drunk... Well, I enjoyed it anyway.

Millennium by Backstreet Boys
Jul 07 2026

Guilty pleasure? Yeah, big time. This is a good one. My wife used to listen to this when we were dating. You know how it is, you listen to what they're listening to (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). The ballads are great, IMO their best album and my sister had all their albums (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

Black Celebration by Depeche Mode
Jul 14 2026

I know a couple of tracks from this album, but I don't think I've heard any of the others. I like a bit of DM, they're a quality band, I don't think this is their best work though.

His 'N' Hers by Pulp
Jul 15 2026

Like I said in my review of "This Is Hardcore" from the main list, I'm not a big fan of Pulp but I do like to listen to some of their stuff. This is one of their best albums, second to "Different Class". Some great tracks, some rather unique/creative for the Britpop scene, although Jarvis' vocals can get a bit samey after a while.

Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt
Jul 16 2026

I like No Doubt, my favourite ND song is on this album. This albums is the start of their transition from deep ska to pop-alt-rock, but you can hear the undeniable SoCal ska in their sound throughout. A definitive album for the 90s.

Lateralus by TOOL
Jul 21 2026

Should be in the original list, why does it have to be user submitted?! Ridiculous. Oh well... Joint best with Aenima. Can't go wrong with this one.

The Phantom Of The Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Jul 22 2026

Yeah, look, TPotO is a masterpiece musical with some epic music. However, I have to agree with some other's comments - This is a recording of a musical not an "album". The music is worthy of a spot on the list, but not the actual musical recording.

Discosis by Bran Van 3000
Jul 23 2026

Expected to like this, but was sorely disappointed. The first track is solid, but I didn't get much from the rest, lyrically weak IMO.

Emergency & I by Dismemberment Plan
Jul 24 2026

Nothing new or this genre, done by other more prominent bands. It's okay, but nothing to get excited about.

Stupid Dream by Porcupine Tree
Jul 27 2026

Started off well, but got too weird for me. Not bad to listen to, a couple of good heavy tracks, but not really my thing. This blend of prog and space rock doesn't do it for me.

Purgatory by Tyler Childers
Jul 28 2026

Plinky-plunky, fiddley, country. Skipped through to see if I could find something to grab my attention, but it's mostly the same. Not for me I'm afraid.

Jul 29 2026

I chose not to choose life, I chose something else... I digress. This is a solid album. Wasn't ready for this, it goes hard. Punk at a different level, guitar work is great, drums are Grohl-esque. Will dig into their discography at some point.

The Unutterable by The Fall
Jul 30 2026

Didn't click with the vocals, found his voice incoherent, a little irritating and repetitive. With different vocals I might have been able to listen to it more. Had to skip through a bit.

Caju by Liniker
Aug 06 2026

Good album. Wasn't sure what to expect. It's not the usual drivel we would get from the typical Brazilian artists of the current age. She delivers quite an enjoyable genre blend of traditional Brazilian rhythms with R&B and House. The deep, soulful vocals are emotional while the intimate, tender and affectionate delivery of the lyrics bring a relishing warmth. Enjoyed the collabs with other Brazilian artists. Nice.

Wincing The Night Away by The Shins
Aug 07 2026

Pretty mid, but not bad. Sound like The Smiths at times. A little samey, but on the whole listenable.

Take Care by Drake
Aug 14 2026

Not big on Drake, but this is a bop! 4

Mm..Food by MF DOOM
Aug 18 2026

Solid hip-hop album. Very enjoyable.
