well, well, my first from the user submitted list. I had a girlfriend who claimed she was Rachel's cousin. Her mother confirmed, but I was always a little dubious about this. Anyway, this is your typical pop written and produced to be catchy and profitable. Can be sung by anyone and it would sound mostly the same whether S Club (fka S Club 7), Pussy Cat Dolls, Girls Aloud, Little Mix, Cheryl Cole... etc etc. I'm not a fan, but it's fine.
An interesting album. There is something I like about them, but I'm not really sure what. It has a certain quality visible only if you're not looking for it as it's hidden beneath the music and the page it's written on. It's somehow simplistic and yet weaves a certain complexity I can't always get my head around. After a while it had a very straight line, no ups and downs. I would listen again, and will probably listen to some other albums.
J-pop, always makes me want to play Final Fantasy or watch more anime (you can never watch too much). She certainly has a great voice. It's chirpy and bright, listenable, but nothing for me to get excited about. I got a bit bored 1/2 way through. I don't tend to listen to any J-pop, I prefer J-rock and J-metal but I don't seek that out much.
Funky reggae rock crossover. Interesting and relatively enjoyable. But like a lot of reggae it got a bit repetitive. Perfectly listenable though.
Never really bothered with Bon Iver, and if I'm honest I only know a few songs of theirs because of Kina Grannis, Imaginary Future and Kate McGill, like "Re: Stacks". There's some good stuff on the album. Generally easy listening, some simple guitar and peaceful vocals.
Not at all what I was expecting. Found it rather underwhelming.
Some good tracks, but I didn't click with it overall. Production is good, but I wasn't particularly wowed.
Not for me. Weird robotic sounds. It's like AI decided on the genre it most liked, because it was created by a sexy robot.
I warmed up to it. It's a good concept. Didn't always enjoy the vocals, but the musicianship is ace.
I've aways enjoyed "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm". I regularly sing it around the house in the deepest voice I can in imitation. His voice is unique and enjoyable, although it goes get a bit much after a while. An enjoyable album nonetheless.
Aside from "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" I liked "Afternoons and Coffee Spoons", but I knew that one anyway.
I tried a few times to get into it. It has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' but I just couldn't really get into it.
it's alright. lo-fi electronica. Reminds me of being in a shop that sells spiritual items like crystals, incense, aromatherapy oils, dreamcatchers and chakra charts. Went well with my GitHub pull request testing.
Not a fan of R.E.M really. I get that "Losing My Religion" is a massive track, but it's incredibly overplayed. "Shiny Happy People" and "Near Wild Heaven" are pretty good, but otherwise the rest is a bit bland. Maybe a greatest hits would be better.
This really hit the spot! Back-to-back bangers. Really got into it, very energetic and enjoyable. Great accompaniment for my Friday afternoon. More like this will be very welcome!!!!
Big fan of The Cure. This is another great album from a great band. Quite surprised to see this one on the list so soon, but great. I actually recently listened to this and their new "Mixes" version of the album. The atmospheric feel with Robert's voice and incredible lyrics are just amazing. "A Fragile Thing" is truly magnificent, very classic The Cure. The album as a whole is thoroughly enjoyable.
Interesting. Wasn't so sure about the prologue, but the rest was worth listening too. The keys are exceptional, drums are energetic and the overall musicianship is immaculate. Unique and hedonistic, despite the language challenge.
I remember when this was released, my sister was a huge fan. I always liked this album. Full of energy, incredible vocals and interesting political undertones. "Teenagers" and "Welcome to the Black Parade" were huge hits.
I have "My Curse" and their cover of Dio's "Holy Diver" in some other playlists, but not heard this album. "The Element of One" and "Rise Inside" are proper bangers!!
Repetitive, a little underwhelming, but there's a few good tracks.
Cheesy 80s girly pop, very Madonna. Enjoyable enough. "Foolish Beat" is well done, "Fallen Angel" reminds me of a Van Damme movie. Good guitar solo on the title track, a good dose of sax throughout and overall good feel.
A live user submitted album. What a shame. I can't do live recordings as I've said umpteen times throughout my reviews. Live recording isn't great, but I don't particularly like the studio versions either, so... Usually like this genre, but sorry this one isn't for me.
Some of the songs here could qualify for a Zelda game. Calming and melancholy, but very repetitive.
The first track from The Chameleons I heard was "Nostalgia" from their album "What Does Anything Mean?" which lead me to this album straight after. "Less Than Human" and "Second Skin" are bangers, remind of me The Cure. I can almost hear Robert singing them. "Monkeyland" is one of my favourites There's variety and mood changes throughout. The Cure meets The Smiths. Magnificent album.
It's not bad, maybe a little generic, but enjoyable enough.
Weird, mixed up genres, obscure lyrics. Had to turn off "Spinal Meningitis", too much for my weak ass. Not bad, but not really for me. Too much strangeness.
Intricate, haunting and melodic. Peaceful in a certain way, morbid in others. I can't quite put my finger on how I feel when I listened. Interesting and challenging for sure.
Beast of an album. Dark, heavy and atmospheric!
I just don't dig much of the 70s, especially psychedelic, hippy, rock. Some songs were explorative and others relatively stable. Vocals were not to my taste. In all it just wasn't for me.
I was clawing at my ears trying to find a single point of U2's career that had something worth listening too, gave up and landed on this.
Energetic, raw, punk rock with short burst songs that have enough variety to draw you in without feeling you've had enough. I was going to go with a 4, but they saved me from U2 and their "About the artist" post on Spotify is
"Went to a Ramones show. Started a band. Pissed a lot of people off.", which warrants a 5.
Alanis Morissette meets Sheryl Crow?
This is pretty cool. Sad I've not heard this before. "Dilate" is really great. As has been said already, she does sound like Alanis Morissette but there are other elements to her style that I can't put my finger on that separate her from being "the same" as Alanis.
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 anyone?
Bad Religion are a great punk rock band and this is a great album. Enjoyable stuff from start to finish.
This is a top Jazz album. Chet has done some truly spectacular records.
Not really for me. Vocals are not strange, challenging listen.
I like a bit of Bob Seger. You can't go wrong with "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "We've Got Tonight". "Ain't Got No Money" is a banger. Lots of classic hits in one album is a winner for me.
This should have been in the main list along with their debut self titled album. I remember buying this on its release after loving their first album. "I Think I'm Paranoid", "When I Grow Up", "Special" and "Push It" are superb tracks, the rest follow the magnificent musicality and vocal genius.
Didn't like the opening track and it kind of spikes up and down for me. Some songs a good, others are mediocre and some are just not to my taste.
I like Electronica, but I can't listen to it all day. This is a good album, but seems to be missing something. Enjoyable with a chill out vibe.
I'm in a bad mood today, you could say "morgenmuffel", after a bad night. This isn't what I thought it would be and was quite glad it wasn't some complex, over produced, space rock, nonsense. The chill-out vibe, instrumentals were exactly what I needed. The last few songs did get a bit weird though. If I was in a good mood perhaps my review would be completely different. Oh well.
This is a great Jazz album full of genius musicianship. Enjoyable, provoking, energetic and complete. Very nice.
Typical, mediocre, 70s blue rock. Nothing worthy of shouting about. Vocals are not for me at all. Thought this would be a little better, but to be fair I don't really like their top hits like "Rockin' All Over The World", "In The Army Now" and "Whatever You Want".
This is great. I love "Divine Hammer", "Drivin' on 9" and obviously "Cannonball". Plenty of other great tracks along the way. Really enjoyable grunge rock record. Will definitely have to listen to more.
Thoroughly enjoyable blues/jazz, with good soul vibes.
Something different is always welcome. Groovy, rhythmic and well produced. Interesting and enjoyable.
Not bad, but became a little grating after a while. Maybe the vocals? Perhaps just not for me today. I'll try another day and see if it's more appealing.
Good punk rock album. Never heard of Jeff Rosenstock so it was completely new to me, no expectations. Enjoyed listening whilst playing some Balatro+.
Pretty funky, some serious bass lines. "Redbone" is a banger. Very much worth the listen, it's enjoyable.
Hmmmm... Not a fan of Shania Twain. She has a great voice and some of the guitar riffs have something to give, but the overall samey, pop-country, shimmery, line dancing sound gets old very quickly. I know she was incredibly popular at the time and tracks like "Man! I Feel Like A Woman", "From This Moment On", "You're Still The One", "That Don't Impress Me Much" (all on this album, albeit slightly different versions to the radio singles) were top hits and I would probably sing a long if someone were to put them on for some fun, but it's not for me. 3 because she made it, she was hot af and there are some decent guitar riffs (plus the classical guitar and vocals on "You've Got A Way" are smoking).
Their entry on the list is deserved and I'm pleased it's there. This is a great album from a great band. Diverse sound, good vocals. I kind a like to think they're a mix of Goo Goo Dolls and Ash. Someone mentioned they're not Christian Rock, while that's true it's clear to hear the Christian influence in some of their lyrics, you've just got to believe ;) As someone who likes to consider himself a Christian, I'm sticking with that and you can't change my mind :D
Enjoyed this album.
I've always had a hard time trying to understand why he's one of the most streamed artists on Spotify, but then I have a harder time understanding why Taylor Swift is _the_ most streamed artist. Anyway, I did my best at "hearing" this album. I'll admit he has some pretty good tracks on the album, namely "Blinding Lights" with its 80s style synth-pop and redemption lyrics which remains the most streamed song on Spotify. Possibly over played, but it's still a good track. "In Your Eyes", again 80s feel and some great saxophone, "Save Your Tears", again the synth is prominent, but it has a slightly different feel. I prefer the remix with Ariana Grande, but it's still a good song.
The album overall has an 80s throwback feel with an experimental genre blend. It's a smooth fusion and cleverly produced with cinematic and dark themes. I can't take away the appeal of that... buuuuut I do feel it's a little repetitive and the production takes away some of the emotion in the songs.
Other than the top hits, I don't find much else in it. For me it's a low to mid 3.
I do like Daft Punk and I'm sure this was an amazing show, but I don't do live albums. The sound quality is pretty good and there are a lot of the big bangers here, except there are the screams and whoops from the crow that I just don't wanna hear.
It's good, but live just brings that score down. As I always say - give me a compilation instead. 3.
fffreeestylers... rock the microphone... Nope, wrong group.
A few bad reviews for this one, but why so harsh. It's a good album for the genre it's in, I think perhaps underrated. It is, however, from the 90s and is therefore not so relevant now. Should it be on the list? I think that's objective, but I don't see why not.
There are some hard beats, some great jams and some smooth raps. Maybe it's a little too long, but I liked it. I won't be going back frequently or anything, but it's still good. It did motivate me to pull out some more from the genre and dig into the 90s drum and bass movement.
"Scratch 22 (Jay-Rock's Theme)" is a great track with some fun samples in there, especially Pulp Fiction. "Ruffneck" is good too.
Not for me. Some songs were okay, but I couldn't get into it.
Don't know on this one. Some interesting tracks, vocals and lyrics are a bit whacky sometimes. In fact, I was a big fan of the vocalist in general. Didn't dislike it, but didn't love it. 3.
This is one of John's best. Haters are suspicious Swifties so can be safely ignored. Anyone suggesting he's not a great guitarist can also be ignored. Love this album.
I know of The Vaccines and know a few of their tracks, but never heard this album. I like "If You Wanna" although I'm not a big dan. "A Lack of Understanding" is better IMO. The rest was alright, but nothing amazing.
Atmospheric and cinematic, mysterious and dark. Not really for me though.
Ok, I wasn't expecting to like this, but I was surprised. it's catchy and moody. I feel like she's a balance between Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter with a mix of other female pop figures.
Pop isn't my taste, but there are some pretty good tracks on this album based off her experiences of love and hate. I'd listen to it again.
Not bad. Has a nice mellow sound, gentle lyrical delivery. Sadly I don't understand the lyrics which took away some of the enjoyment. Overall though it's pleasant and better than some of the crap on the standard list.
Cool hip-hop. I'm getting Jill Scott meets Lauryn Hill. Very enjoyable.
I like The 1975 and I like this album, but I'm sad I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. I honestly thought I was going to be blown away. "Sincerity Is Scary" is a great track as is "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)". "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)" is a great exit track. There are some songs in the middle that are not as well placed for this album, such as "The Man Who Married a Robot / Love Theme" and "Inside Your Mind". Even "TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME" is mediocre. I think I prefer their debut album, but overall this one is enjoyable. It's a very high 3/low 4, it doesn't feel right giving a 3.
I like Avicii. There are some bangers on this album, but I didn't love it like I thought I would. I was super hyped for it, Friday at 16:00, but alas.
What I'd expect for punk/rock/ska album/band. Definitive sound, energetic and raw. Remind me of Tony Hawks Pro Skater. Enjoyable listen.
Not really for me. Got a bit fed up of the vocals. Some interesting songs though. Listenable.
Another 60s album, I won't keep saying it... It was alright though, some songs were better than others, mostly just mediocre though.
Energetic and raw, maybe a little repetitive. Fun and relatively enjoyable but I wouldn't go back frequently.
Started off well, but the Lofi sound started to bother me after a while not to mention some of the lyrics. Musically repetitive, overused chords and strumming patterns. Interesting nonetheless, far better than some of the crap on the main list.
I didn't quite get this one, sorry. To be fair, there's not very much 70s music I do like, particularly of this genre. It wasn't bad, just not really for me.
I prefer the female vocals, but overall it's good. Never heard of them before so something new for the ear'oles. I did feel it was little long and the intro was unnecessary.
When this came out JJ grew popular, fast. Something different for everyone to dig. It's perky, quaint and chill all at the same time. I always liked some of his little riffs and chord progressions. My wife has listened to this a lot, so I know it well. It's good, but not spectacular IMO. Enjoyable enough for a 4.
This is pretty good. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Opening track is solid. Good rock album, enjoyed it.
Musically pretty great, but vocals didn't do for me. Overall it's not bad.
Cool, new age coffee house jazz. I love the vibe and the vocals. It's very easy to listen to and enjoy. It's not truly amazing, but it's very good. 4.
For me it was a little unseasoned, but it was perfectly listenable.
Not a big De Burgh fan at all. Really wasn't expecting much, and I didn't get much. I know "A Spaceman Came Travelling", which tends to get played at Christmas, I can never quite understand why. I don't mind that song so much, but the rest is less than mediocre. It's quaint, it's different, but it's not really for me.
Errr... I wasn't ready for this at all, not sure I still am. This is incredible. What a blend. J-pop and heavy/death metal to become kawaii metal. There's even elements of happy trance, SKA and house in there. The whole time I am imagining some kick ass anime series. Enjoyable, but can get a bit much toward the end.
I like some of the stuff that Rita has done throughout her career. She's a bit samey, this album included. It's not bad by any means, but it won't win any Brit awards.
Mostly enjoyable, but it's not exceptional due to its repetitiveness. 3.
Pretty solid album, probably deserves to be in the main list. It bridges the gap between "metal" and "avant garde metal" traversing the nuances of the two. It's subtle, but powerful and full. Quite enjoyed it. Wayfarer was great!
Enjoyable, classic Rock. Not really heard much of his stuff before. good chops, riffs and solos. Feels a bit generic, but enjoyable enough.
Not so sure about the fusion with Hip-Hop, but it's decent anyway. Wasn't particularly blown away. Perhaps they're a little like RHCP, but I think they're different enough to be a style in their own right. Enjoyable enough, but not quite a 4.
Seems to be a lot of unnecessary hate for this album. Yes, they're similar to Pantera, but there are other elements from other styles and bands. It's heavy, it's loud, it's fun and I liked it. It's got what it needs for a good metal album to thrash around to. Would give a 4, but I'll go 5 because it needs it after all the hate.
Oh boy, I got sick of the live albums in the main list now they're being suggested? And this one's a double!! :/
It's funky, energetic and relatively fun... but it's live!
Not really into Enter Shikari, but I can see how some are. There's a lot of energy and some great sounds. The cross in genres is not new here, I do think that others have done slightly better even though they did traverse the genres differently, but this isn't a bad album.
For me there is a time and place for Bon Iver. Today was that day. It's warming and soothing. I won't say I'm a huge fan, but they have a unique sound that is enticing, even if just for a while. Fav song "Beth/Rest".
If you like Bon Iver and haven't already heard of Kina Grannis, Imaginary Future, Meadowlark and Kate McGill then go check them out.
Not bad this one, didn't know what to expect. But it's very mainstream, nothing exemplary.
ooooh, fresh and funky. "Flavourful Bouquet" was like Snoop Dogg had changed genres. Full of groove with a bit of edge to it. Acid Jazz coming through, some fuzz guitar, musical flavour. "Try And Move Me" was a kick ass track. Liked this album, great for a Friday afternoon.
This is decent hardcore. Although I'm not a huge hardcore punk fan I liked it. Perhaps wouldn't have gotten much further if it wasn't relatively short though. 3.
I know these songs very well, my parents would listen to them a lot. I always enjoyed their tracks, I would play some songs on guitar while I was learning.
Paul Heaton's voice has always clicked with me, I like his style. I do prefer the original female vocals from Briana to Jacqui, but Jacqui did well too.
I can't go lower than 5, not possible. Nostalgia does play a part in that yes, but I do like listening to TBS.
Challenging this one. It started off well, but started to slump towards the end. It's like Crash Test Dummies meets Marilyn Manson. Found some songs really great, and others not so much. Overall good enough to listen to.
Interesting. Calm, restful and smooth. Jazz elements shine through with some great bass lines. You can hear the influence and input Phil Collins must have given whilst providing drums and backing to the album. I want to give it a 4, but I feel it dragged on a bit. There were some nice tracks though. I tried, but I can't go 4, it has to be 3.
Vocals wasn't much to my liking, too much warble in his voice. Musically very decent. Some really great tracks among the mundane, "The Rules" stuck out for me. I can see why everyone is referencing R.E.M.
A-nother live one, oh boy. Don't get me wrong there was some great jams, noodling and jazzy sounds. However, it's too long and live. Listenable for a short period of time.
A killer album! Not their best, but still amazing. Love TOOL.
"Wouldn't It Be Good" is a classic, I remember hearing it in the car on the way to school sometimes. The rest of the album is pretty generic new wave pop, typical of the 80s. It's good enough. It's nostalgic and comfortable. Someone mentioned that people only add nostalgic music to the user list. I don't think that's true, but if it is, that's okay with me. 3 because most of the album is at least listenable, 4 for nostalgia ;)
Zappa was a genius, I won't deny that. This album has some good tracks but some are just mediocre. I've never really dug much of his stuff. I think this is probably the best that I've heard.
Interesting album name lol. Wasn't really for me, but it's alright. Musically well done, vocals aren't always great. Good to see non-English rock represented, I'm sure it was significant in Spanish speaking countries in the 80s/90s. Probably won't listen again though.
It didn't sit well with me, sorry. I tried hard, perhaps it was the time of day, or perhaps I don't have the talent to get it (which is probably more likely). I found it hard to differentiate when a song ended and started as they were quite samey, at least until "Squealer Two". I kind of enjoyed "W.u.o.t.w.s", but it was a bit odd, "The Magazine" was cool though. Maybe like QoTSA meets Arctic Monkeys? I don't know.
I liked this actually, pretty fun. It started off really strong, seems to plateau too early. Still, I enjoyed it. Really liked "Satellite Mind", reminded me of a Mega Drive or SNES 16-bit game. Some good vocals throughout.
Love Ozzy, love this album! 'nuff said!
Sorry, but I didn't enjoy this. Not really for me. It's quite raw, samey and vocally annoying. I've recently said punk is just not my thing, mix it with folk and that hits even more true.
As others have pointed out - reminded me of Costello. This is a decent album, will listen again and to some other albums. Nice one for a Friday afternoon.
Not really for me. It's not bad though, about listenable. 3 because of the nod to The Housemartins in the opening track "Hello City". There are a lot of elements from The Housemartins and The Beautiful South through the album.
Funky, groovy, chill. Relatively enjoyable, but nothing out of this world. Could probably listen again.
Liked this way more than I thought I would. Took me a while to settle into it, but it grew on me! Atmospheric and dark at times. Pretty cool. Will have to listen a few more times.
Decent indie rock, but didn't get much out of it. Was listenable and pleasant enough.
Never heard of M83, although I know "Midnight City". Enjoyed listening to this one while walking the dog, taking in the nature surrounding me, nobody bothering me. Pleasant experience. Quite enjoyed the story of the LSD trip caused by a frog lol.
It is a bit long for sure, not really the greatest hip hop album, but it's alright. Didn't listen to "disc 2". 3.
Another live album on the user submitted list. Too much talking, quality isn't half bad for the 70s, but I can't stress enough how I dislike live albums. Can't deny Joe Cocker is incredible, he has some amazing hits but none are here. His talent shines throughout this live album, but I don't do live albums. Makes me sad to give a low score to such talent.
Not bad. Mix of indie, rock and punk. Some interesting lyrics and musicality. Didn't like it all, 2nd half went a little downhill. I lost interest in the vocals, it started to get a little annoying.
Not really for me, I don't enjoy folk in any combination usually anyway. It's not bad though, some good vocal ranges they have. Produced well.
Pretty decent! Don't think it's worth a 2, but I can see how some find it "run of the mill". I liked it enough for a 4.
Another Indie-folk submission. I don't like this fusion of genres and this album is no exception. There are a few not terrible tracks, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. Sorry.
I know a few of the songs on this album. Not a big fan, but it's not bad.
It's okay, but a bit too "teenage dirtbag" for me. Some relatively good songs, some I know, most I don't. I'll give an another listen some time, maybe some of their other albums. Perhaps they'll grow on me.
Not at all what I expected. Not a bad album at all. Decent indie rock with something original, like "These Are The Days". Occasionally he sounded like Bono, which I didn't much like. I could hear a variety of different sounds from other bands that I likened them to. There were a few songs I didn't particularly like (particularly "Down Came The Angels" and "With Crippled Wings"), but it doesn't deserve a 1 or a 2, shame to see those reviews.
Another BM album? Okay, fair enough. It wasn't bad, mostly enjoyable. Plenty of good tone and riffs, solos, etc, but I won't listen out of choice really.
Decent indie pop with some interesting beats and large sound. Produced well and mostly enjoyable. Saw them live at NOS Alive 2025 in Lisbon, they were pretty cool live, but not really for me.
Not a fan of folk, but this is decent indie folk. Didn't love all songs, but it's well put together and more listenable than most folk. Like most folk, IMO, it's a bit samey and her voice (while relatively pleasant) doesn't make it more interesting as the album goes on. Some well played guitar parts to break up the monotony. Quite liked "Drinking Song".
Listenable, but nothing special. I tried, but had a hard time getting into it. Skipped a couple of tracks. Not for me this one.
I used to always hate country, but have learnt to tolerate it and in some cases appreciate it. There are some artists I enjoy, but it's quite limited and even then not all songs are enjoyable. This is not bad at all, it's definitely more on the enjoyable side than tolerable. Again, some songs I didn't much like just about tolerated, but "Rhythm of The Blues", "Only A Dream" are pretty good. The cover of "The Bug" isn't bad, but I'm not the biggest Dire Straits fan anyway. Can't go above a 3 though, sorry.
Can hear the influence from tool. It's not bad, but I didn't love it like I thought I might.
Can't deny the famous "Lady Marmalade", Patti did great with this track for sure and the group really made it something. As for the rest, it's soulful, funky and pleasant. Enjoyed it more as it went on. I think it's underrated. Great addition to the list.
Pretty cool, enjoyed it whilst lifting! Will check some more of the discog.
Not half bad this. Didn't know what to expect. The sparkly guitars and finger style picking are fun. Some good bass to give it some depth. Vocals are good enough for me. "After The Rain" is a good one. Strangely my least favourite is the most played, "Wondering Where The Lions Are". Overall I enjoyed it.
This is a good album. It's familiar, enjoyable and well produced. Perhaps not their best album, but good all the same.
Wow, 2nd Aleixisonfire album in 3 days lol. These guys are great. I was going to listen to their discography after the last time, but didn't get time yet. I think I like this one a little more than their self titled album.
I like some Nick Cave, but this isn't great at all. It's not bad by any means, but not for me. Usual melancholy, poorly delivered poetry.
