This was a lot of fun. Great when you need something different.
You can definitely see how a lot of these ideas would progress to a more 80s rock sound. Definitely ahead of its time and some really good stuff in here but for whatever reason it just doesn’t hit with me as much. I definitely understand the appeal but it’s not my favorite though it did grow on me as the album progressed. The more I think about it, you can see some industrial synth stuff in here that was definitely ahead of its time but the prog aspects seem tired to me in relation to actual prog brands from the same time.
Generally fun. Like being in high school again.
Lovely. Will revisit
Honestly better than I expected. The guitar solos are better than I remember Elvis Costello being and there are so genuinely good songs on this album. Not to mention the cover is a brutalist masterpiece.
Not for me. At all. The hip hop portions are OK, but I just don’t like it. Gave up after three songs.
Nick Drake’s music is just beautiful. Love the interplay of the droning guitar and the piano. One of These Things First is an all-timer.
This was a fun change of pace for me. Maybe not an everyday thing but I like it.
Honestly I needed this album in my life today. Some really great songs especially Tuesdays Gone, Simple Man and Freebird.
It’s good and is exactly what you think about when you hear Bruce Springsteen. I wouldn’t say it’s exceptional, but I liked it.
It was good. A bit chaotic but by design.
That was fun but I probably won’t do that again.
So much more relevant in 2025 than it was in 2007. I got kind of emotional listening to this again. I don’t want to live with my father’s debt You can’t forgive what you can’t forget I don’t want to live in my father’s house no more I don’t want to fight in a holy war I don’t want the salesmen knocking at my door I don’t want to live in America no more
The Beatles but unexceptional. It was good, Drive My Car and Norwegian Wood were the highlights, after that it was mostly just background noise.
The music was cool, dark and brooding but I found myself annoyed by the singer’s falsetto. I’d listen again though.
Good vibes. Reminiscent of some 60s era smoother jazz/Bossa Nova. Definitely worth a listen.
I low key love this. Like Old 97s meets early U2. Weird vibes all around but really and truly very good.
It’s interesting as a product of its time and there are some really good ideas here that have been built upon by others. But having my first listen in 2025, I feel like it hasn’t aged well at least for me.
Some good ol’ fashioned outlaw country. It’s fun but definitely not for every day. The guitar work and bass lines are prototypical early country though.
It was OK but I agree with some of the other reviewers that it got really tired by the end. One trick pony.
Kind of fun. This guy sounds like he was either listening to Kansas or the same stuff Kerry Livgren was in the late 70s. Part V sounds like it was pulled out of Song for America.
This was a fun listen. Good ol’ classic rock vibes but overly sexed up. Janie’s Got a Gun and Don’t Get Mad Get Even were the highlights for me.
This was a lot of fun but “We Will Fall” was a slog and I skipped it.
Nice to work to or eat dinner to create ambiance (as the title suggests), probably not an every-week or even month listen but worth revisiting.
Some fun songs and good vibes. Love Windmill of your Mind.
Some classics on this one
What can be said that hasn’t already been said? A masterpiece.
Some interesting ideas here. Definitely worth the listen and some re-listens. Love that it keeps the listener on their toes with multiple genres/vibes throughout.
It was fine. Didn’t really aural to me.
I enjoyed it more than I thought. I’m definitely not the target audience but it was worth a listen. I thought it started and ended strong but the middle felt like a bit of a slog. Probably won’t re-visit but I’m happy I listened.
Good ol’ fashioned underground rock.
A classic
Some great songs, especially “The Night They Drove ol’ Dixie Down.”
I understand the love for Radiohead and really want to like them but I always struggle to enjoy their albums. It’s not bad but it reminds me of music a 12 year old wannabe edgelord would layer over anime clips from Cartoon Network.
Brilliant.
I enjoyed it as a change of pace. There were some songs that just weren’t for me but I really got into others, especially “Living For The City”
The music is good but the story elevates it.
Timeless. I love this to begin with. Doubly so when you consider the context Dylan was in and the expect of him at this time.
The dream of 1992 is alive and well on Spotify. Good ol’ crunchy, grungy rock. Not bad but not in the same vein I expected for this list.
Like playing Tony Hawk 2
Some great songs and even better guitar work.
This album would be great without the backstory. Add that in and it’s one of the best of all time.
Someone else said this sounds like the album version of Gilmore Girls and that’s pretty apt. I’m not a fan but I understand why someone would like this. It’s pretty well-crafted ‘90s pop rock, clever and hooky in places but like the Doc Martens the artist is wearing on the cover art, it’s a little too extra for me.
One of the greats
Fun but not what I’d often choose to listen to.
Another classic and maybe unsurprisingly the thirstiest album I’ve ever listened to (and I’ve listened to most of the ZZ Top catalog).
It’s … fine. Not exceptional, it’s not Kind of Blue or A Love Supreme. I’m somewhat surprised it was included in this list to be honest.
It’s really good. You can definitely see how influential this album would prove to be.
I actually really liked this. I know The Smiths but have never listened to Morrissey alone. Based on other reviews I probably will stick to The Smiths but this was good.
The title track is the standout. The rest is pretty typical late 60s Brit rock. I supposed this being mid-60s shows that it was ahead of its time but only just. Good but unexceptional.
Way better than I expected it to be.
Someone’s been listening to Bob Dylan. Or vice versa. It’s had to tell and I don’t care enough to look it up.
There are some interesting elements here but I find her vocals a bit grating. The Anchor Song is kind of cool.
