Dinosaur Jr.
4/5
One of my favorite noise records. Gotta love it when an albums pulls off sounding like complete shit.

David Bowie
3/5
Not every Bowie album is a masterpiece. This has some great songs, but overall it's kinda forgettable.

Black Sabbath
4/5
Beck
4/5
Started off really strong, but lost quite a bit of steam towards the end. Nevertheless, the first 7 songs are insanely catchy and the best I've heard from him so far.
Blur
3/5
Pretty mediocre and forgettable apart from a few songs.
ABBA
4/5
The hits are great, the other songs not so much, but overall it's a fun time. I'll just ignore what the hell they're saying in "When I Kissed the Teacher".
Arcade Fire
3/5
This was my least favorite of the "classic" Arcade Fire albums back when I was a huge fan of theirs, and I think that hasn't changed. The concept and sounds are cool, but a good deal of the songs fall kinda flat. Intervention and No Cars Go are top tier Arcade Fire songs though.
Carole King
4/5
Nice and calming, ideal morning listening.
Kanye West
4/5
A true hip hop classic and probably Kanye at his prime. Sucks to see what happened to him, but it doesn't diminish the greatness of this album.
Adele
3/5
Full of hits, but also full of not so great non-singles.
Paul Simon
4/5
It's impossible for me to give a lower score just because of Duncan. The rest of the album is really pleasant to listen to as well.
The Sugarcubes
3/5
Björk's voice really carries this album. The songs are mostly fun, but not that memorable, especially when the guy starts "singing".
Depeche Mode
4/5
Wasn't expecting such a moody, nocturnal and dark vibe so it came as a welcome surprise. Not as hit-loaded as Violator, but to me it felt more cohesive as a whole.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
A nice and uplifting album. I thought 40 minutes of reggae would be challenging, but it turned out to be quite chill, even with the samey less interesting songs. The female backing vocals are the MVP of the album.
Roxy Music
3/5
Quite creative and innovative for its time, but mostly uninteresting. I love that you can hear Brian Eno's influence in some parts (I also thought the vocals were his, Bryan Ferry and him sound really similar).
Sleater-Kinney
4/5
Would have preferred to see The Woods on the list, but this also goes insanely hard.
Adele
3/5
Kind of a reverse 21 in that I like the lesser known songs while the hits don't do much for me. Gets better towards the end.
Funkadelic
4/5
God, the title track is one of the best pieces of music of all time. It's so amazing that the still good rest of the album just pales in comparison. The cover is also iconic.
The Doors
4/5
A great album and one of THE classics of rock. The only thing keeping it from being a 5/5 are some kinda samey songs in the second half.
Miles Davis
3/5
I usually love jazz and Miles, but this just didn't click for me. None of the songs grip me enough to justify their length, but it's still a decent enough background listen.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Some nice songs backed with Karen's great voice, but generally not more than just ok.
Red Snapper
4/5
Finally an artist I've never heard of, went into this fully blind and loved it. Moody nocturnal trip hoppish and jazzy vibes, it's like Psyence Fiction's spiritual successor. Seems like kind of a random addition to the list, but I won't complain.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
A pleasant listen. I think I would probably enjoy it more if I paid more attention to the lyrics. The title track is the obvious standout.
Kacey Musgraves
3/5
Pretty safe and middle of the road country pop, but her voice is really pleasant and the music is quite soothing.
Yes
4/5
Not the best I've heard from them, but still nice and enjoyable prog rock.
Fatboy Slim
2/5
There are some nice beats here and there, but it goes on for too long, is annoyingly repetitive and the vibe of most songs is too similar for me.
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Two Fatboy Slim albums in a row, what are the chances lol. Anyway, this one is definitely better, if anything because of the hits. The songs still drag on and the album is too long for its own good though.
Sam Cooke
4/5
A great live album carried by the infectiously good vibes and Sam's amazing voice.
OutKast
3/5
The Love Below is great, but Speakerboxxx drags the whole thing down a lot for me. The album is definitely versatile enough to justify its length which is an impressive feat on its own.
The Magnetic Fields
4/5
One of the more unique musical accomplishments. A 69 song album which doesn't get boring at any point is already enough justification for the inclusion in the book. Sure, there are some duds, but more often than not the songs are cute and really catchy.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Yeah it's samey, but it's so dreamy and romantic and I'm a sucker for those things.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Somewhat boring to me at spots, but its highs are really high.
The Charlatans
3/5
Not gonna lie, I was ready to hate this when I saw the Oasis-lite album cover, but it wasn't that bad. The second half of the album especially has some nice songs, but as a whole it's nothing special.
The Cure
4/5
One of their best and definitely their darkest.
The Incredible String Band
3/5
A pretty cool album. The experimentation doesn't always work for me, but it's interesting and makes the album stand out from similar works of its age.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
The great songs really make me want to give this a higher score, but there's just too much songs that just sound like filler. If this was cut down to around 60 minutes, it would probably rival Siamese Dream.
Basement Jaxx
3/5
Some bangers here and there, but it overstays its welcome a bit, and some samples (like the moaning on Same Old Show) are just annoying as hell.
The Go-Go's
3/5
The second half has some really catchy songs, but as a whole it's kinda forgettable.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Not bad, but less interesting than Natty Dread. No real standout songs here.
Sabu
3/5
Interesting listen, but some songs are a bit too grating.
Fugees
3/5
I always expect to like this more than I actually do. Lauryn is the best thing about this album, but a lot of the songs are just not that interesting, and some of the best songs being covers also doesn't do it justice. In my mind it's just an inferior version of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
Really quiet songs with uninteresting instrumentals and a not too interesting vocal delivery by Jack, not something I'd like to revisit.
Common
4/5
Probably the best new find of this project so far. A great mix of Common's flow and Kanye's and Dilla's amazing production.
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
A really pleasant surprise from a band I thought of as a one hit wonder.
Radiohead
5/5
Radiohead at its most catchy and accessible. Once it grabs your attention, it never lets it go. Possibly the band at its peak.
Lenny Kravitz
3/5
Not the most exciting or memorable album, just plain average with a couple of decent songs.
Orbital
3/5
Nice and entrancing listen. Halcyon is beautiful, shame there's no other songs like it on the album.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
One of the more enjoyable Nick Cave albums I've heard, it flows really nicely. The first half is slightly better than the second.
Gillian Welch
4/5
A nice and calming album, the last song adds an entire star by itself.
Gotan Project
3/5
Pretty cool but gets a bit tiring after a while.
John Lennon
4/5
Even though I find the title track to be overrated, this was a really pleasant listen. Some songs aren't the most interesting, but the general mood of the album is quite nice.
Deep Purple
4/5
Good old classic rock bangers, no notes.
Sonic Youth
4/5
A great precursor of modern indie rock albums. Wish there were more songs with Kim's vocals.
Solange
3/5
A decent R&B record, some great songs, more than just "Beyonce's sister".
Prince
4/5
The second half is great, but the first one kinda drags. A lot more cheesy sounding '80s pop than I'd like, but you can't deny it's a classic
Suzanne Vega
4/5
A really pleasant surprise! Her voice is really soothing and the instrumentation is also great, I'll definitely check the rest of her discography.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
4/5
Great album, carries a specific vibe throughout. Siouxsie's vocals go so well with the music.
Alanis Morissette
3/5
Not bad but, except for her angst, nothing here sets it apart from other '90s albums. Guess I had to be there.
U2
3/5
God, I just don't see the appeal of this band at all. The music isn't bad, but it's just so bland and safe sounding most of the time.
Nirvana
4/5
Yeah it's great. Cobain's voice works really well with the more stripped down songs.
Rod Stewart
4/5
Was expecting to dislike this, turned out to be a welcome surprise, some really nice songs here.
Al Green
4/5
A really nice soul album, not much more to say here.
Green Day
3/5
Guess I'm too late to the party for this one. It's not bad, but it's just not that interesting.
Van Halen
3/5
The musicianship is pretty good I guess. The rest...eh.
Dinosaur Jr.
4/5
One of my favorite noise records. Gotta love it when an albums pulls off sounding like complete shit.
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Good, but didn't captivate me too much.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Can't stand the title track, but the rest of the album is really nice, especially the instrumentals.
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Really low-key, but also really pleasant and calming to listen to, probably my favorite of theirs.
Pulp
4/5
Now this is britpop at its best! Fun, playful and interesting unlike most similar albums on this list.
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
Not the best I've heard from them, but it still flows and sounds nicely.
Beatles
4/5
A classic full of great songs. Not a fan of the sitar-heavy psychedelic songs, so that brings the rating down.
Roxy Music
3/5
Like the previous I've heard from them, musically quite out there for its time, but I don't vibe with it too much, I guess mostly due to Bryan Ferry's voice.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Fun album, not as good as Songs in the Key of Life, but still pretty good.
Sonic Youth
3/5
A mix of cool and boring songs. Songs with Kim's vocals are the stronger ones here.
Neil Young
3/5
A mixture of nice and boring songs coupled with some heavy lyrics, all in all a decent album, but not his best.
Foo Fighters
4/5
A pleasant surprise given how much I don't care for them usually. Quite decent '90s alt rock.
Grizzly Bear
4/5
One of my oldest indie darlings' second favourite album. I can definitely understanding the criticisms about it being boring, but I personally enjoy it quite a bit. Love their vocal harmonies and the lush music.
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
It's ok, but as someone who has at least some grasp on the music of the last 10 years, I have no clue what's this doing on the list.
Guns N' Roses
3/5
Meh, it's ok, overrated af here though.
Stan Getz
4/5
A great jazz album, always nice to get something out of the anglosphere as well.
Nothing I haven't heard on the Rod Stewart album I got a couple of weeks ago. Mostly fine rock, but nothing I think I'll be relistening any time soon.
Steely Dan
4/5
Good vibes and fun songs.
Eric Clapton
3/5
Musically fine, but devoid of any really interesting moments.
Bob Dylan
4/5
I'm more of a music than lyrics guy and this lacked the melodical punch for it to click immediately, but it's still pretty good. I'll need to relisten it a couple of times though.
Eminem
3/5
Good music and flow, but godawful lyrics.
CHIC
4/5
Liked it a lot, just catchy and good disco songs.
Otis Redding
4/5
Love the way he sings, but I can't say that most of the songs are that memorable to me.
Khaled
2/5
Glad that there's world music on here, but this was just too long and uninteresting for me.
Nine Inch Nails
4/5
Really heavy and bleak, but it goes so fucking hard.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
4/5
Some pretty good jazz. Take Five is iconic.
Iron Maiden
4/5
Not my musical cup of tea usually, but can't deny that these songs are pretty good.
Fiona Apple
4/5
Not my favorite of hers, but still a really good album, impressive for a debut.
Brian Eno
3/5
I love ambient music and respect this album for pretty much starting the genre, but it's not that great save for some moments.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
This might actually be my favorite of his.
Joan Armatrading
4/5
Never heard of her before, a really pleasant surprise.
Nick Drake
4/5
Beautiful album, Nick was really one of the best ones to do it.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Miles away from his best, but still a decent and catchy album.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Really good as one could always expect from Mr. Wonder
David Bowie
3/5
Not every Bowie album is a masterpiece. This has some great songs, but overall it's kinda forgettable.
Public Enemy
3/5
Not really my cup of hip hop tea, but you can't deny the influence and importance of this album.
Alice In Chains
3/5
It's good, but not too much up my alley.
David Gray
3/5
Some really nice melancholic songs, but also a lot of mid ones.
