Good vibes, love the playing with rhythm and tempo that they do. Just love me some classic rock.
I didn't really think the first couple songs were noteworthy, but as I got further into the album I like it. Its very nice and calm mostly. I don't listen to psychedelic stuff often, but this is good. However, if some of these songs would have come up on my discover weekly or radio playlists I would probably have skipped them. Not every song is a hit for me, while they are all nice and good. It sometimes feels like the singer is just going through the motions of singing instead of putting emotion into it. The last song, Time of the Season, does save the album for me completely, its very good. Nice album just not amazing.
This is not my usual genre, but I genuinely really really vibed to this album. I haven't really incorporated any of the songs into my usual rotation, however I do genuinely believe the skill and artistry is fantastic. I will probably be listening to it with friends at hangouts, but will not grab for it myself.
The instrumentals were great and I mostly enjoyed my time listening to this album. However it kind of became a blur and many songs sounded very similar to each other for me. It is not really my style of vocals.
One of the better albums I have listened to in a while. I wasn't familiar with the genre much as I just didn't grow up with it or heard it on the radio. The only song I really knew was No Woman, No Cry. I have been missing out and this album was a vibe from start to finish.
I went in blind with this album and the amount of tunes I immediately recognised is insane. I understand there are a lot of covers, but everything together it is a very chill and relaxed vibe. The group and the album have made a huge cultural impact as well which I respect. I would listen to this again for sure as I like a good and vibey instrumental album.
This challenge is making me more appreciative of soul as a genre and I am happy to listen to more of it. Solomon's voice is very clear and beautiful to listen to. This album is another vibe and nice as background music. However it can feel one note at times.
This album was a little bit of a hit or miss for me, because sometimes I had trouble with the range of her voice and her way of singing, however I really liked the songs I did enjoy and I want to respect how controversial and monumental an album like this would have been from a bisexual women in the 60s openly singing about loving women.
This album has an absolutely cursed history for a happy jolly Christmas album. From being released on John F Kennedy's assassination day, to the producer being a convicted murderer and apparently a nightmare to work with. Anyway this album absolutely slays and has iconic versions of classics and a very good original. Minus one point for the literal slaying.
Incredible album. I had never really heard of him before this challenge and have absolutely found a new artist to listen to regularly. I love genre fuckery and when musicians clearly love music so much and just play around with it. Not a 5/5 because I would like to request this man to not try and rap again.
While revolutionary for what they tried to do, since then many other bands have improved on the concept and I feel like this album has been left behind. There is a fine line between Rock, Grunge and Punk influences and 'just noise' and even though I really want to like this album as I am very much a fan of rock and grunge and 90s music like this I am just not that into it. There are no real stand out songs and only a handful of songs I would listen to again. All in all... eh its alright.
Good but very samesy start, however the album just gets better as it progresses. I very much enjoyed my time while listening to and I feel like there is real skill and talent involved in constructing this album. Seems like an underrated band and I wish I would have heard more of them sooner. Will definitely continue listening to them and this abum.
To me this a very soothing, gentle, mellow and moody album. You have to be in a specific mood to fully appreciate it, but when you are it is magic. I agree with the criticism that it feels like 11 times the same song, cus it kind of is, the range isn't very big in this album. However it is a good song, with a good sound and a good voice. I will definitely be listening to it again, maybe even in it entirety if that mood would strike me again.
I really wanted to love this album, howeer I just didn't. it's aright and I enjoyed my time listening to it but it felt very generic 2000s rock (which is a genre I do really love) and it didn't really set itself apart. Some songs were kinda samesy while other offered some nice variety. I think it would have done well with a banjo honestly lmao.
Easy 5/5. It is melancholic, atmospheric, dramatic and just straight fire. Watch me ascend and cry to this album in the corner. I saved every song.
It's groovy and pleasant, but the songs seemed unimaginative and repetitive especially in theme and lyrics wise. It faded into the background for me completely.
It was a very pleasant and chill listen, I will probably listen to some of these songs again. Indie is a bit of a hit or miss for me, but this was nice
Some of it was kinda mediocre and I have listened to way better, but I genuinely liked the tracks with more experimental and jazzy vibes. I feel like the N word usage by a white rapper aged like fucking milk tho :').
Very much my style of music and I enjoyed this listen a lot, however I have heard better from Black Sabbath and this is not their best album.
Genuinely a vibe to listen to as Aretha's voice is just straight fire. It's almost a shame to hear her with the 60's recording quality because I know she is hitting all those notes when the sound peaks a little. Other then that I will mostly only listen to this in group settings as this is generally not my style of music, but I can really enjoy it when the setting is right.
Was very vibey and great as background music
I love when Albums just sound like a bunch of friends having fun with music and this falls solidly in that bracket. Every track feels different with two of them literally just being tracks with just drums to have the drummer have some fun. I highly enjoyed my time.
While it doesn't set itself apart too much from other folky 60s music, I did enjoy my listen and have saved some of the songs. It was nice and I don't have a lot more to say about it.
For mr. blue sky alone this album slaps. But each song is great and I have saved many songs. I am very glad to have listened to the rest of the album, which I normally wouldn't have done, but they knocked it out of the park.
I understand what they were trying to do and the proto goth vibes were great, however Frankie Teardrop made me lose my sanity. I wish I could have recorded the noise I made while listening to it and put that as my review. The last song saved it a little for me.
It's painfully fine. This is clearly not their best album. I kind of hate the way he sings and basically punctuates every syllable. But he doesn't do it everywhere and some songs were fine.
Banger of an album that I had high hopes for and still managed to sweep me away. Normally when listening this long to the same artist all the songs start to melt together for me and that never happened at all. Everything felt fresh and new and there are a lot of different genres packed into one album. The only reason I am not giving it a 5/5 is because I'm trying to be strict and I didn't save every song. But damn... it was close.
This album is very well constructed and meant to take you on a journey of sound, empowerment and grief. And I do think it does that. Her voice is like an angel and the sound was chill and relaxed. However with the way the interludes and tracks drifted in and out of each other there were no stand out songs and it all blended together. It got kind of old after a while and the album is very long.
Had a rough day, this made me feel nice and cared for. I recommend.
Love me some heavily southern rock. That swamp sound just can't be beat.
It was okay. I don't have more to say about it.
An amazing Jazz album to for a moment be transported to another world. Great as background music to focus or to just generally day dream to.
A great album all throughout, no song felt like it was dragging on and it was kind of sad to hear the album end. Also, while it is not much like Gorillaz, you can sense the precursor to what the Gorillaz will become in this album.
R&B and love songs like this is not my style, but I can appreciate the incredible voice and quality of sound. I don't think I will listen to this album again at all but I have saved 1 or 2 songs. The album gets a little tiring and the songs kind of melded together for me.
A very experimental live psychedelic rock album with a surprising amount of jazz influences. I reached some sort of flow state while listening to the whole thing and will be listening to it again. Banger in my opinion.
Its trying to be really campy and funny about asshole men lead by their dick, but its just falls compeletely flat for me and doesn't land. It just turns into a very difficult to listen to album about some of the worst men you have ever encountered in your life. It's not a 1 because the music itself is really good and it was a case of 1 is not like the others because the last song is a very ernest song about pets dying and it got me.
Extremely watered down punk about getting girls and some other harmless stuff. Where's my 'stick it to the man' songs and where is the message bro. Punk to listen to with your uptight parents. All songs kind of blended together and I got very bored. Not a 1 because some of the music itself was aight.
Very chill and I liked it a lot. I was vibing. I didn't really listen to much pet shop boys but I definitely will after this.
