Tracy Chapman
3/5
Going into this album, I really only knew Fast Car, which was a song I didn’t mind, but wasn’t something I actively sought out. Immediately as I started listening, the baseline of Talkin’ bout a revolution stood out to me. I was super prepared for something a little more groovy than I ended up getting. Going into Fast Car I was so prepared to really enjoy it, and added those two songs to my everything playlist. After that, it really slowed down for me and everything blended together a bit. Across the lines was cool as a vocals only track, but after that the only song I can really pinpoint enjoying slightly is If Not Now… . I can say this album was musically and lyrically very good, it just wasn’t my thing style-wise and pace-wise.
I found also a lot of the instrumentals to be quite similar with Afro-beat esq style drums and a similar guitar. I found multiple times thinking “this guitar is just fast car with slight differences”. The vocals were very sound and she has a nice voice.
Overall, I’m giving this album 3.5/5 ⭐️, not my thing but I think it’s very cohesive.
Favourites: Talkin bout a revolution, Fast Car
Least Favourites: Mountains o things

U2
4/5
I’ve always wanted to listen to a bit more U2, I love a lot of songs from later albums but had never done a discography deep dive. The album started off very strong with Sunday Bloody Sunday, which I’d heard of but never given a listen before. Seconds then brought it down a bit, but I didn’t actively dislike the song. New Year’s Day and Like a Song were highlights for me! Like a song especially brought the vibes back up pacewise. In the second half of the album, Two Hearts beat as one was one I really liked. Surrender and 40 were good closers. Not my favourites off the album, but I can definitely understand why these are here musically! Surrender especially had some great musical moments.
I enjoyed the guitar work and drums in this album. I feel there’s U2 songs that are better, but I also understand this is decently early in the discography, and let’s face it, not every song can be Where the Streets have no Name.
This was a fun little foray into early U2 and I’m glad I did it! 4/5 ⭐️
Favourites: Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day, Like a Song
Least favourites: Seconds, Red light

3/5
This was a tricky one for me to rate as I wasn’t really in the mood for an album like this today. The first half of the album was hard for me to get through, as I really enjoyed the first track “So Many sides of You”, but the next three just didn’t hit for me. They are also longer songs too which meant if I wasn’t vibing, there was still a while left on the song.
Going into the second half it speeds up nicely with Stand Up, which isn’t really my style, but enjoyable nonetheless. It then goes into Games which had a nice jazz feel, but almost made me fall asleep. I very much enjoyed Do You Think You’re lonely now, but it just was too long for me, same with the closer.
The instrumentation on this album was really good. I liked the guitar and prominent bass, the vocals were good and I liked the horns throughout. The gospel and jazz influences were very evident and enjoyable. Each song was different from each other and it didn’t blend together at all, however, I did find the length of the songs to be a bit off putting. I feel like some of them would’ve been better with a bit of a cut.
Overall rating 3/5 ⭐️, didn’t blow me away but it was musically interesting and deserves its spot on this list!
Favourites: so many sides of you, stand up, do you think you’re lonely now
Least favourites: games

Coldplay
3/5
I always thought of Coldplay as more of a “just the hits” band, and hadn’t listened to them much apart from Mylo Xyloto and Rush of Blood to the Head, both of which my parents had on CD while I was growing up, so I am very familiar with those albums.
Parachutes pleasantly surprised me. Don’t Panic was a pretty great starter (I’m starting to sense a theme with these that I love the first track haha). Shiver was very quintessentially Coldplay, and while I didn’t love Spies the end was quite good and it fit the album quite well. Sparks was alright but not my type of song.
Not gonna really comment on Yellow or Trouble, as they’re hits for a reason and are songs I very much enjoy. I’d say Trouble is probably my least favourite outta the two, but it’s a close call.
Parachutes itself was a serviceable intermission! Going into High speed, it was an interesting sound. I didn’t love it, but I can appreciate it. The two last songs of the album blended together a bit for me, but Everything’s not Lost + life is for living did close the album nicely for me!
Overall, a 3.5/5 ⭐️, might increase if I came back to it and gave it more listens. I do genuinely love a lot of early Coldplay, and saw them in 2017 which was an incredible show!
Favourites: Yellow, Trouble, Don’t Panic
Least Favourites: Spies

The Police
2/5
I was not expecting this album to be… as advertised for lack of a better term. I know the title is meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, but it literally is white reggae. I was expecting it to be more like Every Breath You Take or Don’t Stand so Close to Me, as those were the only Police songs I was familiar with.
Message in a bottle is fun enough, but not something I can see myself listening to consistently. The title track is serviceable as a mostly instrumental track and Its Alright for you is fine, and somewhat fun, but repetitive.
I can only describe bring on the night as an assault to my ears. After listening to that I was like “awe shit, we still have more than half an album to go”. I zoned out during Deathwish so take that as you will.
Walking on the moon, eh, not my thing, but an ok beat.
*brief pause for a half an hour YouTube shorts break as that gave me more entertainment then this album*
The rest of the album sounded very similar to me. Like, I don’t feel like going through it track by track as I’d be repeating myself.
Overall, 1.5/5 ⭐️ (will be rounded to a 2 on site), like I love a lot of classic reggae tunes, but I could not get into this album. It totally just sounded like appropriation of a sound that wasn’t theirs. Like, with previous albums I’ve rated that weren’t my thing I could see why they were considered classics, but with this one I really couldn’t.
There is some musicianship there, but mostly it’s just beats and riffs that have been used before in significantly better songs.
Favourites: Message in a bottle
Least Favourites: Bring on the night

The Go-Go's
4/5
This album was a ton of fun! I found her voice a bit grating, but I was dancing the whole time (well as much as you can dance while sitting with the great unwashed waiting for a flight in LHR).
The percussion in this album was awesome! I especially noticed in How Much More. I appreciated just how unserious this album was. After a lot of heavy albums it was fun just to have some fun again!
Tonite was a fun upbeat little party song! I loved the little guitar moments thrown in there. I actually loved the vocals on Lust to Love and the baseline on This Town.
Heh one I finally know! We Got the Beat is so awesome! They definitely do got the beat. Fading Fast and automatic were a nice change in speed, without dropping the pace of the album if you know what I mean.
You can’t walk… and skid marks on my heart were very enjoyable songs. I don’t really have anything to say about them as I was walking about a mile to my gate while listening to them.
Can’t stop the world was an awesome closer that really sums up the album!
Overall, 4/5 ⭐️! I really enjoyed this. I went into it thinking “oh great, an entire early 80s dance album”, but it pleasantly surprised me! I will be listening again.
Favourites: how much more, tonite, we got the beat
Least Favourites: I don’t really have any for this album, at least not anything I deem offensive enough to be here.

Ok… this is a long ass album. First impressions, it’s aight. There’s a good groove to it and I like the piano. The horns add to the production and the vocals, well, aren’t really my thing, but fit the style of music nicely.
Moonshine is a lovely sounding song. It just has a really nice vibe to it. I could fall asleep to this song in a good way, but ain’t a good thing right now because I’m jet lagged as hell trying to get some work done. Moving on, Friday Night continues on with the cool vibes. The musicianship on this album is honestly awesome so far!
Each song flows into the next nicely. The piano in Thoughts of You is beautiful. I’m finding a lot of the songs are very melancholic. I don’t mind this, it’s just the album is 2h long and while it’s very musically interesting, it’s not holding my attention in the way I’d like it to.
Tug of Love gave me alien vibes and Holy Man - instrumental was a really cool instrumental track. I really enjoyed the guitars. Mexico — all I can say is those horns were gorgeous.
Right back into the groove with Under the Moonlight! I think the layout of that was perfect. I loved Common. I think I’m liking all the instrumental tracks haha! They’re just so good. I also liked Constant Companion! I thought it was a fun track.
All Alone was a lovely closer and really summed up this album. The vocals were actually enjoyable in this song and everything came together.
Overall, I think I have to give this album 4/5 ⭐️. I was so prepared to not enjoy it going in, mostly because of the fact it’s a double album and I didn’t know if I could listen fnaf closely for that long. It didn’t end up being a factor. The music is amazing and while I don’t love the vocals, there is so much to get behind here. I see why it was on the list!
I’m not going to do favourites for this one as I feel this album was more an experience rather than single tracks.

Ok ok, starting off with a very interesting instrumental track. Enjoyed it, was a nice bit of background music. I really like the emphasis on the instrumentals. The vocals are honestly really nice and calming. I like this guys voice.
In black magic woman/gypsy queen I love the emphasis on the guitar. It’s not too complex but also very much adds an awesome vibe to the song!
The drums throughout were constantly driving the pace forward! Se a Cabo was a great track that grew in its sense of urgency as I listened. To then go into Mothers Daughter which started off a bit more chill and then threw everything at you was a really nice moment in the layout of the album!
I really liked Hope You’re Feeling Better! It was a very rock-esq track which I really appreciated. I also enjoyed the closer!
Overall this was a nice listen. Something different and shorter which I appreciated. The emphasis on instrumentals was so fun and didn’t drag or feel out of place! I might check out more of this guys stuff! I’ll give this album a 4/5 ⭐️. I might give out a 5 at some point but it’s really gonna have to wow me.
Favourites: Black Magic Woman, Hope you’re feeling better
Least Favourites: nothing really stood out to me as bad! So none

I’m definitely going into this expecting some gnarly guitar and the first couple minutes have not disappointed.
The first song, Motherless Children, really set a tone for me. I absolutely loved the drums that drove the song. It was fast, fun, and reminded me of some games I used to play when I was a kid. Not sure why.
From there, it really mellows out for a while. Give me Strength and Willie and the Hand Jive were a completely different vibe from the first song. I liked the Groove of Get Ready, but honestly it’s left me itching for another upbeat song.
I Shot the Sheriff is an absolute classic and I very much enjoyed listening to it again, even as a cover.
The guitar solo in I can’t hold out was smooth and Please be With Me was gorgeous. The little guitar moments were lovely. I hate to do this, but Let it Grow made me audibly laugh as it reminded me of the Lorax.
Steady Rolling Man was more of what I wanted out of this album! Similar to the first track, it marches along nicely. I really enjoyed the riff and the solo. I had similar feelings about Mainline Florida! It’s a great closer.
Overall, I really wanted to love this album more than I did. There are some absolutely amazing standout songs, but the middle of this album really dragged for me. It’s going to get a 3/5 ⭐️ as the guitar, as expected, was a highlight, and a lot of the music was great! I just feel it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting and let me down a bit.
Favourites: Motherless children, Steady Rolling Man, Mainline Florida
Least Favourites: Give me Strength

Aerosmith
4/5
Hell yeah! Something that’s more in my wheelhouse of music, although a band that unfortunately I’ve neglected to listen to previously apart from the obvious few tracks.
Starting off strong with back in the saddle. A bit repetitive, but it’s a fun track nonetheless. Last Child is a bit of a change of vibe, but I love the groove of it. The guitar in Rats in the Cellar is super fun.
I loved Sick as a Dog and will probably be listening to that song a lot in the future! Nobody’s fault continued the list of very enjoyable songs.
Lick and a Promise reminded me of something that would be on a soundtrack to an 80s movie. I loved it. To close, Home Tonight had a lovely little nostalgic vibe to it. I think it was a perfect closer to a solid album.
Overall, 4/5 ⭐️!! A great album with multiple songs I will come back to. Honestly I don’t have a lot to say on this one as it was just genuinely good.
Favourites: lick and a promise, sick as a dog, home tonight
Least favourites: don’t really have any

The Rolling Stones
4/5
I feel like this is one of those quintessential albums that need to be listened to in one sitting. I enjoyed so many of the songs, but they all exist so much better with each other.
I loved how this album kept the groove going the whole way through. Those whining guitars and steady drumbeats carry on the whole way through.
This is a bit of a shorter review, but there’s not much to say and a lot to love! I’m giving this album 4/5 ⭐️! It’s close to a 5 but I’m saving my first 5 for something that really blows me away!

Not gonna lie, my heart sank a bit when I saw that it was another British reggae band after having to listen to that Police album a week ago, but, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
The opening track, Tyler, has some nice music to it, and it doesn’t really try to be anything it’s not. It fully embraces the style, and imo, does it well! King is not really my style, but I didn’t hate it. The beats were good and, if I’m hearing correctly, is that a harpsichord in there? Either way, a cool sound.
Burden of shame was a chill track (for the first 3/4 anyway) which I really enjoyed. I’m finding this is a very nice album to have on in the background. I had the same thoughts listening through Adella. I really liked the use of horns in food for thought and Little by Little. The title track itself was an awesome listen. The instrumental tracks really shine on this album!
Madam Medusa, for lack of a better term, was a bit weird. I didn’t dislike it, but it was too long for what it was. The echo effect on the vocals threw me off a bit. I liked Strange fruit. To close, Reefer Madness was pretty good. It uses those horns and beats I liked earlier in the album to good effect. As I said before, the instrumental tracks are the best part of this album and this one is no different.
This album is going to get a 3.5/5 ⭐️. I enjoyed it, but it’s not something I can ever see myself coming back to. It did redeem the British reggae genre in my mind though.
Favourites: Tyler, Burden of Shame, Reefer Madness

Beatles
4/5
My first Beatles album, ever, that I’ve listened to in full. Yet another band that I know and like the hits, but have never done a discography deep dive. I even have two of their “best of” albums on vinyl that I inherited that I should probably give a spin at some point.
Starting off strong with Back in the USSR. I only really knew this song in passing, but a great listen to really pay attention to. Dear Prudence was a nice simple little song. I really liked the simplicity of the guitar through most of the song. Going into Glass Onion, I thought it was solid. Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da was very fun musically wise. The shaker and percussion was great, and even though I didn’t catch a lot of the lyrics on first listen, I liked those too.
Wild Honey Pie was definitely, out there, totally. It reminded me of some of the stuff I’ve heard off magical mystery tour. Bungalow Bull was fun and I liked the narrative aspect of it. My Guitar Gently Weeps was a gorgeous track. It was so melodic.
*slight pause as I drive home and listen to the rest of the album*
Ok I’m back to writing this after getting home. Oh boy to I have a lot to say. The first little bit of this album was SO good, and there are still highs to come, but… well… you’ll see.
Happiness is a Warm Gun, Martha my Dear, I’m so Tired. Serviceable tracks, not my favourites off the album but they work. Blackbird, other than giving me flashbacks from when I took guitar lessons at 14, was an amazing track and I’m glad it lived on to give a punk rock obsessed teen an interesting introduction to guitar,
This is where the album, and I tbh, go off the rails a bit. I read a review on here at one point that said if an albums over an hour, it just means the right cuts weren’t made, and with this album I agree. Piggies was… a song. I was really thrown off by the random snorting thrown in. Like it wasn’t horrible, but in the big scheme of things, this album is over an hour, it could’ve easily made an outtakes album. Same with Rocky Raccoon, which I can only describe as sounding like a mid 90s Canadian Edutainment song. If you know you know.
The rest of disc one is alright. Nothing really to comment on, but they all sort of blended together for me.
Disc 2. Birthday was a fine opener and I loved Mother Natures Son. I thought it was very pretty. Helter Skelter, of course was fun! Was happy to see that on this album, same with Revolution 1, which is a classic and one that my dad started singing as soon as I told him this was today’s album.
I seem to remember liking Savoy Truffle, but I don’t remember what I liked about it or anything about the song.
Revolution 9 deserves a paragraph all to itself. Imagine for a second you’re driving home, it’s dark, 8pm, you’ve just had a long day at work and been to the gym and are super ready to get home, eat dinner, and go to bed. Then, about 10 min from home, this comes on. You don’t know the track, so you just think it’s a quick little, somewhat strange intermission. Then it keeps going. For almost 8 and a half minutes I drove, thinking it would be over soon, and every time I thought maybe it’ll be over, it kept going. I think it’s the closest to going insane I’ve ever been. I get that a lot of the Beatles charm comes from drug filled genius, but holy.
Good Night was beautiful, no complaints. Just the fact I couldn’t enjoy it fully as I was still reeling from the Revolution 9 experience.
Overall, the highs of this album were so high, but the averageness of the lows really took me out of it. Maybe I just don’t get it, maybe being born 36 years after this album came out wasn’t the right choice to enjoy it fully. There are such good points on this album, I was so prepared to give it a 5, but I just can’t. Maybe if it had been edited down to 40-50 min of just the best, it would’ve been a 5 for me. For that, I sadly give it a 4/5 ⭐️. Maybe I’ll go sit and spin one of the greatest hits records I have and have a think about what I’ve done.

Method Man
3/5
An album of an artist I’ve never heard of, in a genre I don’t usually listen to. This is gonna be fun! I know absolutely nothing about reviewing rap, so here we go.
The first song and title track honestly had me strutting around the house, may I say very much not like the 21yr old white woman I supposedly am. It was so fun though, dude has a good flow. Track 2: Biscuits, had me grooving the whole time. I don’t think I’ve stopped moving to the beat since I started listening.
Bring the Pain has some decent background music. I’m 90% sure that this guy had name dropped the Wu Tang Clan in every song so far, a group which on further research, he was in at the time. Just an observation. I’m honestly thinking this album is very much vibes on a first listen. Im sure there’s some good lyrics in there if you listen closely, but on a first listen I haven’t been able to catch anything.
Ok, I may take that previous statement back. He just referred to “keeping his fat ass pussy tight”. Not… out of place in the genre, but I think it’s telling that that was the line I picked out. The song is a banger though.
Ohhhh boy, Not a Blood Clot was hard to get through. I don’t want to police language at all, especially that with historical connotation, but the n-word was used so much in this song. That’s all I’ll say on it because it’s really not my place, but I felt I needed to mention it as this review is supposed to be my honest opinion.
Meth vs Chef, I don’t have any strong thoughts. Sub Crazy, some of the lyrics I picked up were somewhat gross, but eh. Release yo ‘Delf, can I just say hmmm. P.L.O style, a fun hip hop song. Nothing really to say here.
If I’m being honest, the album started to wear on me a bit here. I was still finding it good for the most part, but it’s not a genre I generally enjoy, and like it more in small doses than an entire listen through.
Mr Sandman, well it was what it set out to be. It had some good moments and the closer, while it seemed sort of self serving, was aight.
Overall, a 3.5/5 ⭐️ . It started out really promising but I found it dragged horribly about halfway through. The first/title track ended up being my favourite. Welp, for my first full listen of a 90s hip hop album, I probably could’ve done worse.

Ramones

Actually so excited for this one!! Blitzkrieg Bop was probably the first song I ever liked that was rock based. I remember watching my neighbour play guitar hero and liking the song when I was about 8. The song also reminds me of going to see Green Day in ‘24. I don’t know much about the rest of the album though so time to have a good listen.
Beat on the Brat has very similar guitar tones Blitzkrieg Bop, but with less punch if that makes sense. Going into Judy is a Punk, oh yes. This is a fun song. If I’m being honest, I don’t love the vocals, but, I’m loving the sound overall. I can see how they were one of the inspirations for Green Day. There are 100% similar sounds in here.
I Wanna be your boyfriend, a decent song, has some pretty musical moments. I’m actually appreciating how short this album is, not that I’m not enjoying it, but it feels like a cohesive, edited effort. Chain Saw brings back the fast paced guitars and drum beats. It feels like it took a moment to breathe before throwing everything right back at the listener.
Now I wanna sniff some glue just made me laugh. It was just pure punk fun. I’m enjoying the style of this album a lot. The short songs that just feel like they exist to be played loud. I don’t wanna go down to the basement and Loudmouth continued this trend perfectly.
Oh my god, the guitars on this album just keep scratching an itch on my brain. Havana Affair just started and I think I’m enjoying this more every second. To be fair, this album is slightly repetitive, but after two weeks of albums that weren’t entirely in my genre, having something that directly influenced one of my all time favourite bands has made me really happy.
Listen to my heart was good, and so was 53rd & 3rd. None of these songs overstay at all and are exactly what they’re meant to be. Let’s Dance was so much fun. I don’t wanna walk around with you was also a great, danceable track. The closer was so great, even down to the title.
Overall I have to give this album my first 5/5 ⭐️. It’s not perfect, but it is a foundational album in my music taste and was inspiration to bands that have my whole heart. I will 100% be coming back to this. I’m so glad this album came up today. I was having a good day anyway and this made it even better.

Today’s victim, another album I hadn’t heard of until it popped up on my screen this morning. First impressions: it gives musical theatre vibes. This guy has a really good voice.
Leading into the album, the first track Jackie, was interesting. I appreciate a narrative track. Some of the lyrics are slightly outdated, but the rest of it holds up. Best of both worlds - the vocals in this song are beautiful.
Black sheep boy and the Amorous Humphrey Plugg both had gorgeous string tracks in the background. The way his voice rises and falls with the music is so satisfying.
In Next, the orchestral track is just so good. Apart from the homophobic slur, I really enjoyed this song. The pure emotion of the experiences he’s singing about.
From here, I have a lot of the same feelings I’ve already stated. Amazing voice, great orchestral track, narrative vibe. I did have a chuckle in Plastic Palace People thinking about Billy flying over the city with a string tied to his underwear. What side of his underwear, I assume he’s wearing this underwear, how does he not fall out? Anyway. That’s beside the point.
I enjoyed the change of pace going into the Girls and the Dogs and oh my gosh, The Bridge, the imagery in that song was just so good. I wasn’t thrilled with Come Next Spring as a closer, it was a good song, but it was more of what this album had already given.
Overall, 3.5/5 ⭐️. I genuinely liked a lot of this album, but it’s just not for me and not something I will come back to. The orchestra is amazing and was honestly the highlight of listening! Very glad I listened to this today.

Ghostface Killah
3/5
Starting this one off strong with a track of talking with a voice modifier on. Something, which, unfortunately I hate, whoever does it. Moving in to the first track, Shakey Dog, yeah ok, gotta give it to this guy, he has a good flow. Still not my type of music, but gotta appreciate great flow when it slaps you across the face.
Kilo: I was vibing until I realized it was about drug dealing, then I took a brief pause, and continued to vibe. If I hadn’t have already graduated high school, this would be a good way to remember a Kilos worth 1000 grams. Jokes aside, the next song, the Champ, made me audibly laugh at the line “rip her guts out like a hysterectomy”. Honestly enjoyed the song.
9 Milli Bros was good. Nothing really else to say about it. Actively disliked Beauty Jackson. The next “skit”, well if I wanted to listen to traffic instructions I’d put on Google Maps. I did unironically like Crack Spot though. R.A.G.U had really good lyrics and I really liked it.
Unfortunately, the positivity ends there (for now). Whip you with a strap was almost unlistenable. The actually rapping was alright and the lyrics were heartbreaking, but, the woman singing throughout was honestly horrible.
Back like that was fun. I love Ne-yos voice, so it was nice to hear him on this album. I also really appreciate the level of petty hatred on Be Easy. I loved it. Clipse of Doom was also a good song. The purposeful off key singing on Jellyfish threw me off a bit. Similar to other albums I’ve listened to in this genre, it’s honestly started to lose me a bit at this point.
I appreciated the chiller background for the first half of barbershop! Big Girl was also a highlight of a song for me, so was Three Bricks. It honestly reminded me of an action movie in the best way possible.
Ok, well that was an album. 3/5 ⭐️. I feel like I’ve said this a lot recently, but there were a lot of genuinely good moments, but there were just some bits that were painful to get through. I like this guys flow and some of these are so good, but I struggled to get into it.

I am SO excited for this one today. This album was the soundtrack to my high school experience and all the fun things that came with being in high school during Covid. I would listen to this driving to and from work and school. So yes, this is going to be a bit nostalgia fuelled.
Starting off, Where the Streets have no Name. The intro, *chefs kiss*. I adore this song. It just reminds me of driving to the little town where I worked. Moving into I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. The guitar in the intro gets me every time. This is one of my dad’s favourite songs, so I heard it a good amount growing up. Still love it. Same with With or Without you. Classics. No complaints. I will also not hear complaints.
Ok, now I’m done praising the big 3 of this album, I will go and enjoy the rest. Bullet in the Blue Sky — ugh, another great intro. It’s dad rock at its finest. I’m not a huge fan of the spoken word elements, but everything else carries it. Running to stand still - the intro reminds me of the breaking bad intro. I love what it morphs into. I’m an absolute sucker for a rock ballad, and this is no different (can I class it as a rock ballad?, maybe?, oh well, it is now).
Red Hill Mining Town — the overall sound of this song is just great. It starts out a different vibe than the rest of the album so far which I think is really great. It does fall back into similar sounds, but I don’t mind, because if it wasn’t obvious already, I love this album.
In Gods Country is alright, not my favourite, same with Trip Through Your Wires, I appreciate the vibe on that one, but it’s not as much for me. One Tree Hill is a good song. Nothing really else to add. I enjoy it every time I listen, but it’s not usually something I come back to.
Exit is just a genuinely cool track. Again, has a different vibe then some of the rest of the album, and honesty reminds me of my listen through of War. The actual music in this track is just a really fun time.
Finally, the closer, Mothers of the Disappeared. A gorgeous piece of music. Still not sure how I feel about it as a closer, but love it all the same.
Overall, as much as I love this album, it is not a 5* album. My final rating is a 4/5 ⭐️, I said I wanted to be objective and so I will be.

After reading the little blurb, I’m quite excited for this. I love a good punk record, Especially one from a group I’ve never heard of.
Starting off with Rise Above! This is the type of song that my friend, who only listens to pop, would classify as hard to dance to. I’m not a huge fan of the more hardcore vocals, I’m more of a clean vocals punk girlie, but I’m vibing with the song as a whole!
I’m loving the bass work in six pack. It’s a fun lil song. I’m appreciating that this is a shorter album too, I’ve found that a lot of early punk albums are shorter which just means to me that they don’t overstay their welcome the way some other genres tend to do.
The fabulous bass lines continue in What I See and TV party, just shows how much fun punk albums can be. It’s almost like a Blink-182 precursor which is honestly great! The fact that this is one of the longer songs on the album too just makes me laugh. I’m a bit of a hypocrite because I’d probably flame an album in another genre for a song like this, but oh well.
Thirsty and Miserable jumps back into the awesome guitar led music. This whole album has had me head-banging the whole time. The driving drums in Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie are awesome!
Depression was a track I genuinely enjoyed, somewhat ironic but oh well. I really liked No More, the beginning was super cool. I also loved the music in Life of Pain. It was quirky.
Unfortunately I didn’t really like Damaged 1, the closer of this album.
Ugh, I have to rate this now. I’m honestly torn on a rating for this, as I do like the genre and this album. I just don’t know if it really has worked its way up enough to the level of my 4* albums, so it will be a 3.5/5 ⭐️. A good listen today!

I had to find this one in a YouTube playlist as it’s not on Spotify, so excuse me if I miss a track or get the order wrong!
The first track, Peace go with you brother, is an interesting piece of music. I don’t dislike it, but it reminds me of sleep asmr. I’m sure if I searched “smooth jazz sleep sounds” I could get a similar effect.
Rivers of my Fathers has some good piano, it’s definitely what I would class as elevator music though. Not in a bad way, I just feel as if the way to enjoy this is standing in an elevator or in line at a theme park.
Very precious time is the same as the rest. I like this guys voice, but this album is making me so tired. It’s also like 10pm at this point, but am I a bad person for wanting a bit of urgency?
Finally! Back home is much more like it. The flute, the more upbeat tempo, yay! The Bottle is actually really good! I enjoyed this track a lot.
Oh yay. Back to the slow ones. Song for Bobby Smith. Yeah. I’ve already said all I need to say about these slower tracks. Going into Your Daddy Loves you. I usually hate parent to child songs, but this one had some musical intrigue.
H2Ogate blues. I don’t really like the spoken word intros to tracks anyway. I just realized it’s 8 minutes long. I’m 2.5 minutes in and it’s just been spoken word politics. I’m not against a good political track, but I feel like I’m listening to a speech. Actually, I’ve been slightly unfair. The poetry in this track is really good. It also… relates well to current events.
The title track: I enjoyed this a lot. No notes.
I feel like I’m missing a track or two, but I took what the YouTube playlist gave me. Overall, I think I was slightly harsh on this album. It has some great lyrics and musicianship, it just ain’t for me at all. 3/5 ⭐️ from me, but it probably does deserve higher.

Even before listening, I’m really intrigued by this album! I’m excited for another alt rock record.
Starting off with If I were going. That subtle drumbeat fading in is a really cool effect. This is super cool so far. The title track, Gentlemen, was a great listen. Like this is the type of stuff that makes music so fun. I never knew this band existed before, but they’re probably going to be in my daily rotation now.
Be Sweet and Debonair are also both really enjoyable tracks. Specifically I loved the guitar in Debonair. When we two parted also had some nice guitar work. A bit of a change of pace, but may I say a welcome one! This track is honestly beautiful in its own way. It’s being dropped straight into my moody songs playlist.
Fountain and Fairfax was alright. I enjoyed it, it had a lot of good vibes, but it wasn’t my favourite off this album. I loved the piano in What Jail is Like. In general, that was a really solid track.
My Curse was awesome. It was a bit jarring to suddenly have a female voice on the record, but oh my god was is perfect. I keep coming back was another slower song, I really liked the lyrics. It’s one that I’m going to have to listen to again I think to get the full effect.
Brother Woodrow/closing prayer, as a closer, was a lovely piece of music. I’m still not sure how I feel about primarily instrumental tracks closing, but this one was a good one.
Overall, great album, I really needed this! 4/5 ⭐️, almost perfect. A good portion of this album is getting added to various playlists of mine.

David Bowie

Ooohhh, my first Bowie album! Exciting!
Initial thoughts of ⭐️, it’s… interesting. It has a funky kind of feel to it. I started to get a bit of a feel for it 5 minutes in when the drumbeat kicked in. It’s slightly eclectic, but enjoyable.
‘Tis a pity she was a whore honestly just made me laugh at the name. It’s a decent track. I love the horns and the dance vibes. I’ve just looked at the lyrics and I laughed out loud. I don’t know what this is in the context of his career, but this is so funny. The way he sings Whore is absolutely golden.
Lazarus was a good track. I enjoyed it. Sue, I liked the music, but the vocals seem slightly washed out? I’ve noticed that with this album. I also find he sings a lot of runs of the same note in this song, which is slightly taxing on the ears.
Girl loves me. I immediately opened the lyrics on starting this song and was not disappointed. The lyrical entertainment value from this album is high. I can hear the hip hop influences and I actually think it’s pretty cool.
Dollar days was beautiful. I think in the context to when this album was released, it’s a heartbreaking piece of music.
I can’t give everything away was a nice enough closer.
Overall, I can’t help but feel that this was not the first full Bowie album I should’ve listened to. I think this album would do best in the full context of his whole career, as I read it was his kind of “swan song”. At this moment it’s going to be a 7/10 or a 4/5 ⭐️.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
I struggled to find all the songs on this album, so I did the best I could with the Wikipedia tracklist.
Starting off with She’s Fierce, such a fun track. I also loved Its Nasty. There were a lot of cool little bass moments in there, and the use of the kazoo made me laugh. All the different artists fit together well.
In the Adventured of Grandmaster Flash on the wheels, the sampling of Another one bites the Dust was actually pretty well done.
I hate to say this, as it’s an alright track, but the vocal effects on Scorpio gave me a headache.
Now for the title track! I have the extended edition playing. This is honestly quite good so far. I quite like this guys flow. Message 2, which I believe was only on an extended edition, was also pretty good.
New York New York, which I believe is another bonus track, was a bop. The lyrics were so good on this track. I really enjoyed all the songs I tracked down from this album.
Overall, 6/10, 3.5 ⭐️. Enjoyed it, thought it was fun, but not something I will probably ever listen to again!

PJ Harvey
3/5
Starting off the album with Rid of me, I like the rhythmic guitar! This girl also has a really cool voice. I’m definitely vibing with this. It’s also nice to have some female representation on this list! It’s been quite male centred so far. The chorus is so bombastic! That was really unexpected but so so welcome.
Missed is also a very cool track. Almost reminds me of if Evanescence and Florence and the Machine had a baby. Legs is good, but I feel it’s very similar to the previous tracks. Rub till it bleeds and hook were fine!
I can’t decide if I like Man Size Sextet or not. The music is good, but the cacophony is not really for me. I very much enjoyed Highway 61.
From here, I thought the album was quite good, but nothing really stood out to me. The closer, ecstasy, was good and wrapped the album nicely.
A bit of a shorter review, it was good, and I just wish it had more ideas in it. Every song sounded very similar. 6/10 or 3/5 ⭐️

Ooh! Another R&B album. This is honestly a great album for today. Short, with some interesting musical ideas, but nothing too too out there. I also really like the album cover.
The first track, Billy Jack, has a cool baseline. I also like this guys voice. It was a very easy song to listen to! I like this album so far as it’s slower paced, but not in a way that makes me check how long is left in the track.
I liked when seasons change slightly less, but I can’t really pinpoint a reason why. On the other hand, I absolutely loved So in Love! The horns were spot on.
I notoriously hate spoken word tracks, but I honesty loved the beginning of “Jesus”. Unfortunately it didn’t hold that intrigue for me. I’m not religious, so it’s hard for me to get into something with religious subject matter. I appreciate the artistry though.
Blue Monday was a good track! I liked how this one picked it up a little bit but still kept the vibe of the album. Hard Times kept with the vibe.
The closer, Love to the People brought in the guitar which I thought had a nice groove to it. This really summed the album up for me!
Overall, a pretty good album! I’m really learning to appreciate the R&B albums through this list. 7/10, 4/5 ⭐️. I hope I get some more like this in the future.

I don’t really know what to expect out of this one as I’m going in completely blind!
Smooth operator, as an opener was cool. I liked the smooth jazz vibes and the beat. There is a lot to listen to with this track! I’ve heard this song before but not in its entirety, and definitely not a close listen.
Your love is king reminds me of the music my mom used to listen to when I was growing up. That kind of slow, rhythmic, melodic vibe.
Hang on to your love was a brilliantly groovy little track! This was a highlight for me for sure!
Moving forward, Frankie’s first Affair brings back that melodic vibe. In the best way possible, I could fall asleep to this. The vocals, the jazzy piano, the horns, it’s all very relaxing.
I love the percussion in When am I going to make a living, and I think I’m going to be humming Cherry Pie for the rest of the day.
The way that Sally escalated at the end was awesome! A really cool piece of music. I’ll be your friend had some really nice vocals!
Why can’t we live together was a good closer to this album! Pretty vocals, music that I really like, and recognize, but I can’t place, and a nice vibe.
Overall, 8/10, 4/5 ⭐️! Thought this album was really good, loved the way it carried itself the whole way through.

This is a very interesting album. It’s kind of giving me the vibes of magical corruption in a fantasy book. I feel like this would not be out of place in a movie or other piece of visual media. Hidden Place in itself is a very enjoyable, dark, piece of music.
I feel like Cocoon is just the right amount of dark and weird for the subject matter it’s trying to portray. The vocalist has a really unique way of singing which really adds to the vibes of this album. I have similar feeling about Its not up to you.
Undo has a really cool percussion section in the background. That’s all! Pagan poetry was a gorgeous track! This is one I’m definitely going to be coming back to.
The chimes in Frosti are absolutely mesmerizing! This album is all over the place but I love it. Aurora had some amazing vocals.
An echo, a stain: the swelling music in this is awesome! I also love the vocal effects that are thrown in there. Sun in my mouth was another pretty track. Heirloom and Harm of will were honesty great! The swell of the music, and the almost christmassy vibe of some of Harm of Will.
It was nice to have the drumbeat back in Unison. Even though it was slower, it had some urgency to it. Again, just the way the music swells is beautiful. It closed the album wonderfully.
Even though the album was almost an hour, it did not feel like it. Y’know what? 5/5 ⭐️, 10/10. This album was weird and wonderful in all the right ways and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Getting right into this, it has such a fun feel to it. I feel like I should be line dancing in a flowy midi dress in a western bar. I was slightly apprehensive going in as Country and Western is not my thing in the slightest, which considering where I live makes me a bit of a hypocrite.
You don’t know me has a very calming presence. It’s romantic, and something I could see people slow dancing to, maybe in the middle of winter. It has a bit of a Christmas time vibe. Similar vibe with I Love you so Much it Hurts.
Just a little Lovin’ brings back that swing that I was enjoying at the beginning.
Born to Lose sounded like something from the beginning of an old Disney movie. It makes no difference now feels like something I’d listen to at an easy listening bar. Same with Careless love. This is a good album to have on in the background.
I can’t stop loving you seemed to be almost the sequel to I love you so much it hurts earlier in the album. Hey Good Lookin’ was one I recognized. It’s one that was quoted by family but I never knew where it came from.
On to disc 2!
You are my sunshine was a mixed bag for me. My mom used to sing me this song as a child so hearing a more bombastic version of it wasn’t exactly what I wanted.
Someday was nice and relaxing. The horns throughout this album are on point, but I wouldn’t expect anything less. Midnight has really nice vocals.
I really enjoyed Old Lonesome Me! This was just a fun track. I also enjoyed Your Cheatin’ Heart. I thought Making Believe sounded very similar to the previous track.
I think I’m going insane. So many of these sound like Christmas music.
Anyway, 3.5/5 ⭐️, 6/10. Thought a lot of this album was amazing, but also thought a lot of it was quite repetitive. A good listen.

Fleet Foxes
4/5
I’m quite excited for this album! Something that was released when I was alive, so I count it as modern. I’m quite excited to listen as I don’t think I’ve listened to folk since I had a friend who was obsessed with it in middle school.
Starting off, I love the guitar! That folky melody played on electric at the end of Sun it Rises was so so cool! White Winter Hymnal had some cool effects, and while it wasn’t quite my thing, I enjoyed what it was going for.
Ragged Wood was so good! The marching drums the whole time were awesome. It’s very early 2000s indie, and for once I appreciate that.
Lyrically, Tiger Mountain… was really gorgeous. Music wise too, I just really noticed the lyrics. It’s been going in and out on whether I enjoy the vocals or not, but I think this track has made me decide I like them.
I liked the sound of Heard them Stirring. This album reminds me of Springtime where the snow is melting and life finally feels free again. Maybe it’s just that it’s finally above 0 degrees today and decent out, but I think it’s the album.
The more somber start of your protector going back into that faster rhythmic guitar was a good listen! Meadowlarks was alright, but not my favourite.
Blue ridge mountains was alright. I didn’t have too many feelings about it.
Oliver James was a decent closer, but I didn’t feel it was exactly right for the rest of the album.
To wrap up, 4/5 ⭐️, 7/10. I thought this was a very good album and a fun listen, especially in a genre I hadn’t really listened to since my preteens. I enjoyed some of the early 2000s indie sounds, and thought that it was a very cohesive idea!

First impressions of this album are pretty good! I’m excited for a bit more alt rock! It almost has a grunge sound to it.
Moving in to “A Good Idea”, there are, in fact, some good ideas in here. I really like the guitar and drums and the way they compliment each other.
I really enjoyed Changes! It was the first time in this listen through I actually could really pick out some of the vocals and the guitar solo at the end was awesome!
I appreciated Helpless being a little bit more melodic, and really enjoyed it, along with Hoover Dam too! The slim was a nice longer song on this album. I didn’t really feel the length of this one.
Genuinely enjoyed If I can’t change your mine! It had an element of fun to it that I hadn’t felt so far in this album. Fortune Teller had this vibe too which I really appreciated.
The intro to Slick was really good, and as a closer Man on the Moon was a nice track.
I’m torn on this album, because while I did enjoy it, and it is the style of music I like, I was underwhelmed. I felt a lot of it was very repetitive. 3.5/5 ⭐️, 7/10.

This was such a weird album, but I had so much fun with it. The first track, Metronomic Underground, felt like a fever dream, but I can in fact get behind a good fever dream.
The influences in this album seem a bit all over the place, but I’m vibing with it. Cybeles Reverie brought me back to my high school French courses. I quite liked it though, I haven’t really listened to anything in the language since then. Not that I understood it other than a few words, so it’s time to play a game of how many words can I pick out from my 3 years of French training (thank you Canadian public school). Jokes aside, Percolator is a really cool song. I love the little riff that goes throughout the whole thing. It’s absolutely insane but I love it.
Les yper-sound had some really cool musical ideas and Spark Plug was actually a genuinely good listen.
I liked how the took it back a step in Olv 26. It still has some of the wacky sounds of the rest of the album, but is nice and melodic too.
I loved the Noise of Carpet solely for the name. It was also incredibly fun, but the name just makes me laugh.
The Marimba in Tomorrow is already here… beautiful, amazing (if it is marimba, that would be embarrassing if it’s not).
The title track sounded exactly how I’d expected it to sound! I enjoyed it. It then brings it right back down low with Monster Sacre which I absolutely adored. It was slightly creepy which added a really cool effect.
Slow fast Hazel had a lot of fun to it, and the closer, Anonymous Collective, was exactly what I’d expect out of this album.
Overall, 4/5 ⭐️, 8/10. A lot of this was really out there, but I genuinely enjoyed my listen through. I don’t think it’s something I’ll come back to, at least not as a whole album, but I had a very good time with it.
