Um ok so I don’t think this is my type of album. It sounded like an album the alt/punk boy would listen to in high school thinking they are so cool and in an effort to show them you’re also cool you end up in their car listening to them wax poetic about whatever - lyrics, guitar riffs, the storytelling, etc. when all you want to do is start making out to get them to stop talking. Also for sure something Mystic Spiral would have come up with -especially New York City Cops and Take It or Leave It. Whiny boy bands going on about how women annoy them is not the vibe.
Banger. after. banger. after banger. Literally the only song I didn't LOVE was Lovesong but even then, it is a beautiful song and her voice is just *chefs kiss* perfection. I knew Adele had game but DAMN, this is an ALBUM. She weaves in hints of different genres here and there and the darn thing flows so well. As someone who has listened to literally one album all the way through (see above), this made me understand the album hype.
I'm convinced you need to be tripping balls to truly appreciate this album. I did enjoy the "flow" it had and would love to see how they make all the different weird noises scattered throughout. If The Strokes is the alt/punk kid in high school, The Flaming Lips is the alt/stoner kid. Didn't realize "Do You Realize??" (haha) was part of this album and honestly, I get why it was the only stand out but it also didn't seem to really fit with the rest of the album. Another ablum that wasn't really for me (I was ready for it to be over by the last song) but glad I have it a shot.
This probably shouldn’t have been my introduction to Miles Davis but I thought it was interesting. I like jazz and I know this was meant to be experimental but it maybe just wasn’t what I expected? The album is just two longer songs which fit well but I didn’t really feel the “album” aspect of that - which probably doesn’t make any sense
I was really excited to listen to this album and while I enjoyed it, I can definitely see why Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time became the hits. The "He's So Unusual" (hey Betty Boop) into "Yeah Yeah" was really interesting though and there were other fun songs - another very album-y album. And SO very 80s with the synth and general vibe. I can see why she was an it girl. I feel so basic with Time After Time being my favorite song but it just hits and reminds me of Romy & Michele so what's not to love
This album makes you want to be/fall in love and I say that as someone who is a romance cynic. It does get a little repetitive after a while but I would put this on at a swanky dinner party and just vibe out. I get the Frank hype.
This album is just so cool. David Bowie is cool. I felt cool listening to it. And it’s just…cool. I would have never chosen this Bowie album but I’m glad I did. I always hesitate with “long” songs because I get distracted easily but these were bops and it made the time go so fast.
Busta Rhymes is that you? I apologize TLC - I was not familiar with your game. This album was WILD. Between the intense hetero sexuality of it, the little interludes, the ladies basically talking to each other, and the constant reference back to crazy sexy cool, there was a lot to unpack. But to go from the horniness of the first 80% straight into Switch and Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes was wild. Also the number of names on this album is crazy - Prince was a big green flag. P-Diddy....major bummer to see his name on it
Ok so it makes me feel like uncultured swine to say....I didn't like anything about this album. Even You Can't Always Get What You Want I think was only enjoyable because of it's presence in mainstream culture. Everything else just fell so flat. It feels absolutely ensane to even think to dislike this album because it is THE ROLLING STONES - there's a freaking magazine named after them - but I just had a hard time appreciating their work. Again, uncultured, I get it and no one is more disappointed in me than me.
I think British 60s/70s rock just may not be my jam. Why is every song 8 minutes long though?? I don’t have the attention span or appreciation for that. Again, I feel like uncultured swine for not appreciating this album more but at least I’m consistent I guess?
I zoned out through this entire album I didn’t even notice when the album ended and Spotify just kept playing more Fatboy Slim. Who is the intended audience for this music? It’s not me. I know 1,001 albums is a lot but I would love to know the rationale behind this one. I could not differentiate how any of these songs are different from one another. You know, the more I write, the more I’m annoyed that I spent an hour of my life listening to this.
Another band I couldn’t into. Again, this music is for someone, but not me. I was bored, annoyed, and generally bothered. I zoned out for most of it.
I liked this Rolling Stones album much better than the previous one but I'm starting to get really bored with '60s/'70s boy bands. I know they are iconic and did a lot of paving for new music but you can't tell me that out of ALL the albums in the world that this band deserves 2 spots (and maybe more, I'm only like 15 days in). There wasn't anything better than this?
Take my review for Jefferson Airplane and scratch it - THIS is the album I thought would be just another '60s band with all the same sounds and boy was I wrong. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions with this one but in the end, I enjoyed it overall. It had an album-y ness that almost makes me want to listen to it again to try and get the nuances. The fact that the wooden wife song shows up twice but with different vocalists and just slightly different lyrics is fascinating - as are the through hook musical moments that show up.
I'm just so glad this was a different genre than the last like 5 days. I also appreciated getting this album on MLK day - it felt more fitting. I've never thought of myself as much of a blues person but I think I really like the vibe of the genre. Is it something I'm going to reach for daily? No. But is it perfect for the summer evening porch vibes? Yes. I hope to get a few more albums like this in the mix - especially for it's influence over other genres. There are a number of musical phrases/hooks that I feel like I've heard in modern music.
I have to imagine there is another Madonna album on this list because if not, this is a sad representation of what she can do. I mean, the album is fine overall but nothing spectacular. I see why the songs that became hits were chosen - nothing else really stands out and I just feel like it is trying too hard to be a relevant pop/edm album but doesn’t hit the mark on either very well.
Not bad but I can see why Smoke on the Water is the stand out song.
This is not what I would thought it would be at all and I was pleasantly surprised! I want to listen to this one again but I’m surprised none of their songs became more mainstream.
Free Bird is overrated. I said it. It doesn't need to be 9 minutes long and there are other songs on this album that are just as good. It's just a male mid-life crisis national anthem.
Look I’m sure there’s a contingent of people that are annoyed that *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and 98 degrees all sound the same (they kind of do) and that is just a symptom of the time. The Byrds is one of the 60s versions of that and meh. It’s fine. So very average - nothing memorable.
SO surprised at how much I liked this. I didn't know any song other than London Calling but I would put a few of these on my favorites list. I never thought that would happen with a 70s british rock band. Who knew!
This was very cute. Streets of Laredo made me HOWL because I finally got to put the Wedding Planner song connection together. I loved it. This is definitely a sitting on the front porch album. I'm glad it's only 30 minutes - that's all it needs and while everything kind of sounds the same, it was still a nice album.
Just so very forgettable. Another album that just isn’t for me.
This album is why I signed up for this album generator and why I was excited to do this challenge! While it's not my favorite album ever, it is so different than anything I would have picked up on my own and I actually enjoyed the flow of the songs.
Totally different than anything I've listened to before (I don't listen to a lot of tango music). Good background music and some pieces were interesting. Probably won't listen to it again, but glad it expanded my exposure
I had fun listening to this album. Such a good 80s throwback and while I think their rhythm sometimes sounds the same (that’s rap I guess), I enjoyed focusing on the lyrics. Another album I feel cool for having listened too.
Kind of trippy. Kind of weird. Kind of fun. I don’t know if I liked it or not honestly. Truly may or may not listen again but for not knowing who this artist was to begin with, I don’t think that’s a bad spot to land.
I HATED this album. Knock off Beatles and just so very forgettable. Maybe this suffered from being yet another 60s/70s boy band but it wasn't unique or really enjoyable at all.
YES! This album was adorable, beautiful, sad, and so much. Dolly Parton can do no wrong. The three voices blended together so well and those harmonies were to die for. I didn't connect to the lyrics as much (very breakup song heavy) but it's just a great collection that blends together well
Very ok. Very not memorable.
Absolutely beautiful!! Loved it. Will definitely listen again and I’m excited to discover more Ray Charles.
I really liked this album. Had the classic Beck sound but went beyond in adding in some additional genres. Really liked the flow of the album and would definitely listen again.
The guy who sings the Coconut song!! I'm not usually a fan of 70s music but this was a very pleasant surprise. It got slow by the end but I had fun with this one. I feel like his vibe is popular now and he would do well in 2026.
