Growing up there was a radio station in N.Y.C call 102.7 WNEW. They had a segment called the Perfect Album Side. In this segment ccasionally they had the Perect Album. This one falls in that category hands down. From the haunting fade in of Natural Mystic to the battle cry Exodus to the anthem of 3 Little Birds...every little thing is gonna be alright. Pure perfection.
No sophomore jinx here. I forgot how beautifully dark this album is. A big change from the first album & a true testament to Robert Smith's genius.
I'm an old metal head & love Metallica. But because of commercial overplayed I haven't listen to this album in it's entirety in 20 years. I kept my "no skip" word & listened to it. & I'm glad I did. It's a great album. It still stands on its own. I was reminded that there are some hidden gems in here you don't hear anywhere like the god that failed, my friend of misery, Of wolf and man, Through the never. Plus Kirk Hammett kicks ass all over this record!!
What else can be said about this masterpiece. It dropped like a bomb in '98 & we are all still effected by it. Everything about this album from flow, lyrics, music, interludes is a master class in production. It's a classic that still holds true today.
One of my favorite records. This is one that I never get tired of listening to. The songs on this album are Americana classics. But what really makes this record for me is the way it was recorded. The old school way of the band playing all in one room & capturing the live feel. You can hear the members flowing with each other on every song. The Band was a true brotherhood.
This is one I haven't heard in a long time. Classic album. It plays & sounds as I was sitting in that studio. Yes it has it's classic cuts but what blows away is the musicianship on display. It pours out of every songs. As a guitarist, in my opinion this is definitely a guitarist album.
Raw real & beautifully haunting. Im a big fan of this band & love most of their stuff but this one is the one the instantly hopk me in.
Holy crap the smile on my face when this one came up. This album is hard AF. Funkadelic were in the middle of their hard funk psychedelic far-outness peak with this one. Maggot Brain, hit it & quit it, can you get to that. From top to bottom front & back this record kicks serious ass!
This album is incredible & was ahead of the game at the time. The mixture of songs with in your face driving guitar riffs, fantastic song writing & incredible vocals & production makes this one a complete package.
This one brought back some good memories. I lean more to this era of REM even though I dig everything they've done. This album is raw & not overly produced. The music to me is straight forward & to the point.
Wow! I don't know how I missed out on this one! First time hearing this & what a ride! Love all the funky, neo soul, jazz stuff. Plus the erie soundscapes makes this sound like a soundtrack to a movie I would definitely be into. Then here comes Nick Cave on vocals for The Sweetest Embrace. As beautiful as it is haunting.
I respect this bands legacy & all the have influenced in this genre but they are not my cup of tea. That said im glad I did enjoy this album. I could hear the blueprint to so many bands I'm into. In my opinion a very bold first album.
Southern Rock at it's best & another one of those classic first album. Also in my opinion another guitarist's album. Well crafted songs with riffs & solos galore. & of course....FREEBIRD!!
A Masterpiece. That is all.
I've always been a fan of The Cult since the early day of Death Cult/Southern Death Cult and so on. But when this album came out it absolutely blew my mind! The songs are well crafted the riffs are a plenty & Billy Duffy kicks ass all over the place!! His solos are raw bluesy & in your face with so much emotion that they speak to you. The whole band is on fire & Ian Asbury vocals are just incredible. The album definitely has the Rick Rubin touch but shit a band has to perform to make it sound good & The Cult took that shit to the peak!!
Being from the south bronx Igrew up & love hip hop. But I have to admit that this the first I've heard of this artist. Maybe because at the release of this album I was on my own musical ventures. This album is really good. His flow definitely His own thing. The beats are great. My only complain is that in some tracks the music takes over & the MC gets lost in the mix. I read up on this album & it has review. Considered the best British rap album. I'll definitely will be giving this & his over album more listens.
I really never got this band. There are some songs that I like & they so happens to be on this album. The blending of the vocals & music is amazing. Well produced.
Im not familiar with this band but wow! What a record! Very well produce. Well written & recorded. Deep cut lyrics. I a fan now!
Killer album! I love everything about. The recording itself is top notch. The guitar tones, thumping drums & the bass is killer with all the melodic walking bass lines & of course Chrissie Hynde establishing from the very start that she is a badass not to be fucked with!
Another of those classic debut albums & one of my all time favorites. Some considers Wire post punk but this one is all hard-core punk! Absolutely brilliant record!
IT'S ELVIS! This is a great album. The young Elvis rips through some classics with youthful energy & attitude with the band driving the music home. & I could never get sick of hearing Scotty Moore absolutely shred on the guitar!
I might be biased on this one because I love anything & everything Fats Domino. This is bluesy Fats, swinging Fats....it Fats Domino baby! Jump on it!
This is an incredible album! Unfortunately I'm more familiar with the drama than the music. But in digging in my son's collection I've become more of a fan of the music. This one is definitely a modern classic, in my opinion.
A classic! Incredible story telling over amazing beats. This one is up there in my hip hop favorites.
Legit country music with 3 beautiful & legendary voices. Not my cup of tea but well done. All 3 ladies are at the top of their game on this one.
Another classic that I haven't heard in years! This is full of great songs & of course can't forget the poppy song about the end of the world! Great record!
I never heard of this group but I did enjoy this record. Enough to start losten to their other stuff.
In the era of big arena rock, the birth of hip hop & punk rock, disco & top 40 radio Dylan puts out a masterpiece that sounds like it should've been released 10 years earlier then it was!
Just wow! This record shows the true talent & amazing singer & arranger Janis was! She was hands on everything. Nothing got done without her approval. The confidence & her range & emotion on every track shows the powerhouse she truly was.
I get proven wrong a lot while doing this project & I'm glad that I am. I really didn't know this artist but assumed that it sucked. I was wrong. This is a killer album. The mixture of hip hop dance & world music is so well done. Her lyrics & flow is smooth catchy & intelligent. Im a fan!
This is excellent work! Well written & recorded. I didn't know what to expect but I edited this one. It reminds me of Donovan.
Machito! Another one of my favorites. If you know music & music history you should know how important this man was not only to Cuban music (which is where he's from) but to the jazz world in its entirety! This record is perfection. This thing has swing!
One of my favorites. It still blows me away with the wide range of genre this album goes through. It's definitely a trip!
Never really heard of this band but this was good. In my opinion it sounds like a very spacey Love & Rockets. Excellent piece of work.
Holy smokes! I've never heard of this artist or album but this blew me away. This a simply but powerful recording.
