1001 Albums Summary

This is a 4.4 rounded down to a 4. Great album but not the best of oasis so i can’t really give it a 5. But if i had adult money i would pay the 300 something pounds to go see them. This rating was definitely a battle between do i actually love this song or is it just really nostalgic

Wow that was amazing. So interesting textually throughout and I was never bored. Just so clever, especially with Cans and Brahms. Works incredibly as an album as a whole, which is quite rare apparently.

Some great songs to yawn to. Inoffensive but flavourless. They were songs

I thought the background to vocal ratio was perfect but the lyrics bored me. Great flow but wouldn’t listen to again

The experience was rough, uncomfortable and overall unpleasant. Won't be looking to get bummed again.

I got into a lot of the songs on here… I wish they had come up with a better album name but i’m nitpicking. One of the better punk albums so far on the list

Works as an album, works as single songs too. I love the recurring chords running through the whole album. Quite long for an album would be my main problem. If this album was kept shorter, wouldve been a 5 for sure. The blueprint of storytelling through an album.

I actually kind of liked it… This kind of music definitely has its place in the world.

I do listen to jazz more than occasionally but not this kind. I just couldn't cope with the high pitched trumpet intervals. There were some really good bits in there but I found myself getting a bit bored, so its a shame the rating is so low.

A bit of a weird one. I went into this album assuming I'd enjoy it a lot more than I actually did. Usually quite like fusion but this feels just a bit too unpolished for me, especially in "on any other day". Read the wikipedia page and it said that a lot of the songs were unrehearsed before recording which somewhat doesn't surprise me.

hi george, wouldve taken this one to the marriage counsellor instead. i saw that you went through 4 wives, so call may be coming from within the house. the album generally reminds me of when i got chased by a goat for 10 minutes when i was about 5

I was surprised that I liked this because I usually don’t really love the singer songwriter genre. I thought the instrumental at the beginning didn’t quite fit with the rest of the album. I think my mum would like this

I like a lot of elements about this album but the weaker songs like pretty baby brings the rating down. I do like a powerful female voice though so this was hard

Rick i love u but what did you seein this. This is what i’d listen to on the way to work if i was a balding 51 year old man recently divorced and a 9-5 i hate. Did they change the key at all throughout the whole album?? Still pretty iconic though so it deserves a 3

Pretty brilliant end to the album- Voodoo child was definitely my favourite out of all of the songs for sure. I really wanted to give this a 4 but I think I much preferred the other album and I really didn't like some of the longer songs on here, so it's a high 3.

I would’ve given this a much higher rating if the instruments were different- not a huge fan of the keyboard. Watermelon man sounded ape like to me at times, but the other tracks on here made me smile. What this album does a great job at is the fusion- jazz and funk couldn’t be combined better.

Great start to the album and i thought i was about the have a lovely blast from the past. but baby i hope to hear this full album no more times. but i cant give britney a 2.

“Home places we’ve grown All of us are done for” This would be my anthem if i was a foot fungus about to be killed off by treatment. So maybe in another life. Coldplay is one of those bands i really struggle to understand why people like…. sorry

raw hems, squiggle print and weird makeup. not a finished product, but this album similarly feels like the beginning of something much bigger. It felt like listening to a prototype of a lot of more modern artists that I love. Even the annoying repetitiveness gave this impression. X didn't quite make it in the same way as VW but but this album did make me go on vestiaire. I don't think i can afford those boots though.

perfectly modern, objectively good music. i had not a clue what exactly i was listening to, but it felt like watching the sun set over a place ive never been before. but i prefer sunrises i think.

There were some really good songs in there and some….. not so much. It got pretty old by the end of the 40 minutes but I see myself listening to som of the songs again

Torturous at times to listen to. God awful terrible music. I can’t believe this was made in the 90s??

like a parfait. Started off nice with really good textures, like ice cream and something crunchy. But as i progressed through the album the parfait became more deranged. Do not put fried chicken and soy sauce in my parfait. However an interesting experience and I keep thinking about this album.

I really like the first song but they kind of lost me after that one.

Very very very very bland, and not very memorable in any way.

Urgh how can you not love this. Incredible guitar and songwriting, and I listened to the album again once it was over. The albums works amazingly together, but each individual song is incredible on its own. 5 stars!!

this girls IQ is probably very similar to the average mosquito. this is the whiniest, most annoying thing i have ever put in my ears. Truly terrible forgettable music

If I was tasked with turning the episode of turmoil due to diarrhea caused by eating a whole wheel of camambert one fateful christmas, O-men would be my blueprint. I can't think of a better song to describe those couple of days. I suppose that's why they're called the butthole surfers.

orchestral and cinematic. the vocals… not so much but a somewhat enjoyable album experience. the lyrics were pretty awful though

I can’t think of anything I particularly liked, but I can’t think of anything I particularly disliked either.

I put off listening to this album for so long, and I'm not really surpised that I didn't love this. All of the songs seem slightly too long and bore me towards the end. Nothing really stood out to me. I know this isnt unpleasant music, but if someone asked me what this album sounded like in a months time I wouldnt be able to tell them a single thing hence the harsh rating.

It’s nice to see a non english album in here. Lots of fun layering but it didn’t always work and ended up being unpleasant. Seems like the type of music I would pretend to love if I was an insufferable man who thinks he’s far more culturally informed than you are.

I don't regret listening to this at all. As horrible of a man Kanye is, his music defined an era, and are undeniably iconic. I cant believe it took me this long to properly listen to his music. Absolutely deserves its place of the list as probably one of the most influential albums of all time (for better or for worse). However I can’t really see myself listening to much of this again

So funky but perfectly balanced. Extra points for being released on my birthday, but I do genuinely love this. I listened to it twice for good measure

Not my favourite Gorillaz album but I do still love all the the experimental stuff going on in this album.

Did they use the kazoo for the instrumentals???? There was some really good stuff in here, but some of the songs were pretty awful. The instrumentals are just a bit too much for me.

Spotify has been trying to get me to liste to this album for ages so i was quite excited to see what it was all about. this is a lot coming from me about this kind of mopey genre but this was actually reallly good. so far the better nick on the list

This album made me look up the most popular drugs of the late 60s within 5 minutes of the album because WHAT are these people on???? (it was LSD which makes sense) I just cant imagine anybody enjoying this at all, including myself. MADE ME WANT TO TAKE MY SKIN OFF

This album sounded a lot better than it actually was… Urgh i wish i liked this. I liked all of the ingredients, which is why i’m a bit disappointed by the final product. That being said, i still like a lot of this album and it’s generally pleasant

I don’t really like the under 3 minute song throughout the album, and the song length consistency added to the general repetitiveness of the album. Elvis is a legend, and I can imagine a version of myself that loves this album. Unfortunately it’s not this version of me.

This album got progressively better and better as I was listening to it, and I loved so many songs. I felt like a lot of the songs on this album just made sense on the first listen whilst still being new and exciting, which is something very difficult to do. I've changed my mind. Its been 6 months and I still think about this album from time to time which no other album has done to me which makes it completely deserving of a 5. Ive relisted to a lot of the songs on here and I recognise them when they play when im out.

Really not what I expected, which was more angry punk and shouting. I liked a lot of layering that was happening throughout this album, and it was overall a fun listen.

So I went into this album expecting to hate everything about it just off of the album cover. However this was a pleasant surprise for sure, some really fun things going on. That being said, I don’t see giving this a relisten any time soon

Theres lots of good things going on in this but The Smiths are just so repetitive and I can’t really see how much of this stuff is different from all of the other things I’ve heard from them. Meat is murder, but I think murder is natural. I like some of the songs though

I feel like I mightve enjoyed this more if he was singing at a live musical or something, but just not very enjoyable through headphones. Wouldn't listen to again

This was actually pretty enjoyable for the first half but I really can't get into albums were all of the songs are under 3/4 minutes. I need some more variety. Shame because I really liked a lot of the first half of this album but it kind of fell off.

While I know fully that this music wasn't made with people like me in mind, and it was pretty influential, it doesn't take away from the fact that I do not like this. The lyrics seemed pretty shallow throughout the album which i also didnt like. I understand having a signature sound to your music, but a lot of the songs on here came off as repetitive. Wouldn't listen to again

I liked a lot of elements of this album but I can't say I loved every bit of it.

Satisfying to listen to, but musically a bit too simple to listen to again. Nothing major to fault, but I feel like I’ve heard a lot of this before.

This was such good fun to listen to. I would say this chicken is pretty well seasoned. If this was playing in a cafe, I would have high expectations about the coffee. Not my kind of thing though

In all honesty, I have no idea what this guy was saying throughout the entirety of the album. That being said, this was a thoroughly enjoyable listen that I could instantly get into despite not having heard all of the songs before.

There were some quite enjoyable bits in here that I thought were pretty good, if you could get over the overall scratchy chalk vibe of the whole album.

This was something I'd probably enjoy a bit more not through my headphones but quite fun electronic music. I had no idea that this artist was so popular.

Post beatles seems like the most appropriate word I'd use to describe this album. Personally I prefer the real deal.

This was quite good fun to listen to. I liked a lot of what was going on, and I will be back for some more of this.

This was great fun and it reminded me of Iggy pop at parts. Really good study music, will be revisiting. I will say that it got kind of repetitive at the end.

This was surprisingly good. A lot stronger than a lot of similar albums that Ive been having to listen to in this genre. I particularly liked the vocals incorporating really interesting pauses. Surprised because I expected to hate this. I think that the fewer streamed songs in this album were particularly good. Might come back to this rating

I preferred the first couple of songs over the rest of the album. I thought that the album overall was pretty forgettable, but for the occasional fun instrumental, this one will get a 3.

The epitome of Lana Del ray. I preferred the songs nearer to the beginning and i got pretty bored of the album nearer to the end. I also don't like this romantic attitude around addiction. That being said, definitely one of the better pop (?) albums around.

This was good fun to listen to and it helped to get me through the unintended 1 hour walk that i got myself into. very very very 80s

Depeche mode is one of those albums that have a lead singer that gets annoying after about 10 minutes (like the smiths). He sounds like he shared a lot more goat DNA than the average human being. That being said, the actual music is very good. I debated giving this a 4.

I went through a bit of a king crimson phase a couple months ago but i never got to this album. There's a reason why some of their albums and others not so much. That being said I do think this album was quite good fun to listen to and good study music. Got me through maths

These guys were great and I enjoyed what was going on but I just can’t see myself listening to much of this in my free time, and I do like understanding the lyrics of the songs I listen to, so the language barrier was a bit of a restraint on how much I could absorb from this album.

This doesn’t say anything about the songs themselves, but I just could not separate the millions adverts I’ve heard featuring them. Other than that, a smooth listen but not something I see coming back to again and again

I wasnt too sure about this. This was a strange experience and I was glad that it ended when it did.

This was pretty hard to find but this album was another one where I felt that the listening experience would be so much better if it was live. I really feel like the spirit of jazz dies when it is recorded and relistened to, because the spontaneity is what makes jazz jazz. That being said, some good songs to integrate to.

I had a great time listening to this which was good after a long streak of very very average albums. Quite punky in a way that was still approachable. I liked this on the whole

This was just okay. I feel like something has happened because every time I listen to music I can only evaluate it as average, neither enjoyable or unenjoyable. So this rating might be a reflection of how I feel rather than the music itself. I just don't know how to feel but I don't think this was bad

I really liked this. I don't love the smiths but I felt like this album had everything that I like about the Smiths in it which was really nice. I will be listneing to a lot of the songs on here again. But his voice is what I would imagine Romeo would sound like in the balcony scene except Romeo is a goat with a tooth infection.

Sounds like the Bubonic plague, fire, soot and beds. There's a reason that we as a society have moved on from that period, so there's no need to make us nostalgic for our hunter gatherer days.

I really don't like when singers try to show off the highest note that they can sing. I am worried for his vocal chords if he keeps straining them like this. You don't become a better singer if you can sing higher notes. Neil is not impressing me so far

This is universally likable music. I can't imagine anyone who doesn't like this album. A classic.

I'm not sure why I put this off for so long, but something about this album didnt appeal to me. Maybe something to do with the very uninspiring title. Uninspiring would be my word of choice to describe this. I'm not too sure that many people would notice if this album suddenly ceased to exist as there is lots of similar music out there.

Quite good, easily recognisable. indisputably good music with a great flow. But just don't see myself listening to this on the regular.

I like jazz enough but its one of those things that lose so much of its appeal once recorded. live jazz is always a 5/5, but this one gets a 3

So weird. I couldnt tell you one thing I liked about this album but also couldnt tell you anything that I hated. The lyrics were weird and the repeated mention of a fendi bag was so confusing.

This album exceeded my expectations of what a bongo band can be- incredible bongo band is a great name. Got me through physics which is quite the feat. I just dont really see myself listening to them much in the future though- theres lots of other stuff id much rather listen to.

I just couldnt find anything about this album particularly engaging and differentiating from any other songs from the. genre. I know that this album laid out a lot of who Paul Simon became to be in later years but that doesn't make it like it. But not necessarily offensive in any way so its a 2.

I really liked the first song and I really thought I was in for a 4/5 star album but.. nevermind. It really faded into the background after a while. This is the kind of music I would imagine some guy would play on facetime on the guitar and you have to pretend you're enjoying it even though you would give anything for it to end, which is kind of a nightmare scenario for me...

I feel like the music in this album is best described as replaceable whispering man who terribly terribly wants to be called niche and thoughtful. But there were some good bits in here so its a 3.

Honestly gave me a bit of a headache.

Maybe Im biased because I know the sentiment behind these songs, but I am always open to listening to women screaming... i think. When I first realised that I much preferred listening to men screaming than women screaming I got a bit disgusted with myself for holding double standards, so maybe I rate these angry female albums higher than my actual enjoyment because I feel the need to make up for it.

I went into this really expecting to like it and my expectations were both met and disappointed. I really liked the layering that was going on, and I do want to give this album another listen. Maybe I'll come back to this review

It's hard not to enjoy something when you've heard so many of the songs before- this album is definitely one of the more iconic albums, and I enjoyed all of the songs that I'm not too familiar with. I shouldn't have put off listening to this as much as I did.

I believe these guys when they say that they are in the dark.

I do want to give this a higher rating because I liked so many of the songs in this album but the flops really flopped. Some of the songs in here are so forgettable and formulaic, and they added no value to the overall album.

Foo Fighters are like fried rice. You know what you're going to get, and it's always good. This album was no different

It's difficult to image people hating this music. Universally likeable, and I didn't check how much left I had of the album once, which is a good sign. But nothing life changing

I found the song about shooting your wife so deeply disturbing that although I would have given this album a 2 for being boring, that song just ruined it for me. I dont want to hear about a man singing along to his guitar in a campfire esque way talkign about how he held a gun up to her head thank you

I have very little patience left for this type of music that mainly consists of a man making sound into a microphone and expecting it to be enjoyed with very little interesting elements in the album. I'm tired

Things really started going downhill for me during the trumpet in bitches 2?? its so weird. I loved body count so much though that this one gets a 3- really highlights the thoughtful elements of this album that stood out.

God that was awful. But not unlistenable. But also if some guy facetimed me and starting singing any of these songs on the guitar for me, I would start taking my skin off because I would rather do that than listen to this on an acoustic guitar with amateur singing. Worse than coldplay, but I dont want to give this album the honour of being given just 1 star. Dont get me wrong though I did hate this

One of those albums that are impossible to dislike in my opinion. Feels warm and cinnamony and nostalgic despite not having listened to all of the songs in this album. That being said not something that I would listen to in my own time

I think good music is music that can make the listener take on a character, and this album made me feel like a more organised, complete version of myself in the future. But it also took me back in time to listening to my piano teacher play through glass walls with her eyes closed. This album has all of the components of jazz that made me obsessed with it when I was younger and I got really sentimental listening to it

This was a fun listen and i think these guys are really underrated and deserve some more recognition. There was quite a big disparity between the strong songs and the weaker ones, but overall enjoyable listen

Felt like a place between places

So iconic and so theatrical and difficult to fault but really not a bit of me to be honest. Not sure when the appropriate occasion to listen to Queen is..

I was so ready to give this a terrible review as soon as I saw the name Neil Young which I know isn’t very open minded of me.. but I kind of liked this. A lot better than the other stuff that he’s done- wasn’t constantly counting down to the end

Genuinely one of the worst albums on this list. Like Coldplay and U2 had a child. This was so hard to get through, I didn't know 50 minutes could be so long. There was a lack of focus throughout the album, which was annoying and distracting. I just hated this so much and also the guy can't sing

I was hoping this would be a lot better than it actually was and there were definitely some great parts of this but also a bit cringe inducing

I feel like this is one of the weakest radiohead albums but there were loads of great songs in this album regardless. I don’t really know whether you’re supposed to listen to the extended version of this album as part of the review but I did anyways.

This was beautiful but I will cut it out of my life for the foreseeable future because I found the listening experience far too heartbreaking. I particularly liked the first song which made me feel villainous which was fun was all of the fun ended promptly once I decided to listen to what this guy is singing. I am so glad that I didn't have access to this music a couple years ago. Type of music you can put on at the beginning of the day to not even give it a chance. Incredible music I will choose not to listen to

Went through quite the Iggy pop phase about a year ago and I still love it. So easy to get into but don't listen to the lyrics too closely...

It was really difficult to decide on a rating for this album. It's definitely one of the more tolerable things that my mum plays in the car but I can only listen to so much Green Day. The first couple of songs are great to listen to after a long time though so its a 4.
