Not my favorite Zeppelin album, but a great one to be sure.
The best post Beatles release there is.
"Let Me Roll It" is maybe Paul's best song and there are like 4 other certified hits on here. Great album
This was a weird one for me. The more I listened to it, the more I liked it, but I doubt I’ll come back to it.
At the start of most songs, I’d think it wasn’t for me but by the halfway point I was almost always on board.
In another life I’d give it 4-5 more listens and let it grow on me, but I just don’t have that kind of time anymore, so here we are.
They’ve always been more of a singles group for me and this album doesn’t change much. “So Fresh, So Clean” and “Ms. Jackson” are all time smash hits and there’s a few other good tracks here as well, but also some clunkers. Couldn’t care less about the interludes.
The list of live albums that I enjoy enough to listen to regularly (or even semi-regularly) is very small.
I enjoyed this well enough, but the odds of me ever listening to it again are so slim that I'm hesitant to give it more than 3 stars.
"You Don't Love Me" was my favorite track and that one might get some play, but as a whole, I'll probably leave this one behind.
3.5 Stars.
This one is interesting. It’s, all at once, of its time and ahead of it. At turns, it sounds like who Pink Floyd becomes and also sometimes like the Beatles. Plus there’s that weird Austin Powers number at track two.
Overall a good debut, but not nearly there best.
3.5 stars. It’s not bad, but this version of early 90s, West cost gangster rap has never been my favorite.
The songs I already knew remain the highlights. The rest is whatever
I'm kinda shocked at how much I liked this album. I've never really gotten into Elliott Smith and had pretty much written him off. Couldn't name a song by him. Apparently I listened to one of his albums last year, but it must not have left an impression.
I think I'll actually come back to this one. Lots of Beatles influence throughout this album which is cool.
A pleasantly surprised 4 stars here.
4 Stars. Always liked this one. You know the hits. The rest are good too
2.5 Stars
Mostly a yawn for me. Just not really my thing. I enjoy electronic music, but usually from a different lane.
"Science Friction" and "Quality Seconds" were the only tracks I was into - it gets a star for each (and a half for bits of the last couple tracks), but I doubt I'm coming back to it.
2.5 Stars - We've got one pretty good song and a bunch of inoffensive songs I'll never listen to again. Just not my thing
4+ stars - I know this is the consensus "best" album from the band (and it's great!), but I've always enjoyed Nevermind more.
2.5 Stars - Just not into it. A few good songs, but nothing I'm necessarily drawn back to.
Great album from a band that’s generally singles only for me.
You’re listening for the bass lines and guitar riffs more than anything else.
“I Could Have Lied” is the unexpected stand out for me
The definition of a “greatest hits” band for me. I almost never listen to a full album, but this is great. And there are a handful of tracks that I can’t ever recall listening to that I love.
“‘39”….are you kidding me?! How was that not a hit??
And then you have 2 of the all time greatest hits from any band in “You’re My Best Friend” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”
4.5 stars
The first 5 star album so far....
More than half the album consists of songs that most people know and love. And the other songs are also great!
What more are you looking for?
3 Stars
Nothing wrong with this, but it's not for me.
It's fine.
This and Help! are my least listened to Beatles albums, but it doesn't matter. It still gets 5 stars.
Question: Did they ever release a bad album?
Answer: Not even close
World's greatest band.
3.5 Stars
Fun album. I didn't know what to expect with this one, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Inoffensive album with 1-2 songs I might revisit at some point, but nothing I feel drawn to overall.
Better than I remember with multiple good songs, but I’m probably not coming back to it much. 3.5 stars
I’ve never been a huge Metallica fan, but this is the era I think of when I think of them. Great album. Probably my favorite that I’ve heard from them so far. Solid 4.5 stars
I made it a 1.75 songs in and it was a valiant effort, if I do say so myself.
I'm good.
3 Stars.
Average album. I admittedly had it on in the background, but only once or twice did it peak my interest enough to move into active listening
Might ruffle some feathers with this one, but what a slog to get through in 2026, man.
It's really a 1 star album, but it gets an extra solely because 23 years ago I would've given it enough chances to enjoy a few tracks.
4 Stars
I ended up liking this one more as it went on. I'm not sure how often I'll come back to it, but a fun album for sure.
Whoever said it falls off after the first half is out of their mind. The album picks up at "Hell Yes" and keeps going from there.
2.5 Stars - not a bad album, but dreadfully boring.
Early 90s west coast rap has never been my thing, but it's okay. The beats are too repetitive and most of the songs drone on too long, but it's a solid 3
This is my favorite album of all time. I know every song front to back and don't need to listen to it again, BUT I'M GOING TO ANYWAY!
Not sure what there even is to say about it. It's all great. If you didn't rate it a 5/5, you are wrong and we would not get along.
This would be today's album. Just told a friend I don't mess with the Satanists last night and then we have Marilyn Manson the next day.
Not a fan of blasphemy and I never understood the appeal of this guy back in the day anyway.
I figured this would be a 1 star album, but I actually considered an extra for a minute or two. I'm good, though.
A couple good songs, but mostly an album that is not for me. Some weird stuff on the back half, too.
2.5 Stars
Mostly forgettable album (this has been happening a lot in this exercise so far). Not bad, but not something I need to hear again outside of 1-2 tracks. Whatever
I really enjoy this album a lot, but have never understood the love affair some people have with it.
Easy 4 stars; something I come back to every couple years, but not something I listen to incessantly
Cool cover, some fun guitars, but nothing cool or fun enough to bring me back.
Mostly a snooze fest, but the bass line on "Colours Fly and Catherine Wheel" is the best part of the album. "Glittering Prize" is cool, too.
So for those reasons I'll give it a 2.5
Gosh, what a boring album! I swear, people have got to be lying when they rate some of these albums just because they're on this list or they were told something was good once upon a time.
Anyway, "Allison" was the only song I really liked. "Stormy Weather" was pretty cool, but then I got bored and realized it was less than 2 minutes into a 3:26 song. Not a great sign.
2 Stars and that's probably generous.
Awwww yeah! Now this is an album.
I've always had a soft spot for Dion (and the Belmonts). This is great. Not sure I can swing a 5, but the lower end of a 4.5 is where it's at.
Let's. Go!
Update: I just read some of y'alls reviews and you're certifiable. Wild stuff happening over there from some of you.
Rough stuff. Fever dream soundtrack. Nails on a chalk board. Nightmare music.
It's music for ASMR freaks before anyone knew what an ASMR was. Some of it threatens to be soothing, but it never is.
I'm good
2.5 Stars
Not bad, but not for me. Couple good tracks, but I'm not likely to come back to it.
We love a good saxophone, though, so it gets an extra .5 for that
3 Stars. Maybe even 3.5
Nothing wrong with the album, but it's also not something I'll come back to again.
It's just okay, but I do kinda like it more than a just okay album. Not sure if that makes sense.
Good album. In some ways it’s the estranged father of cKy.
Idk how much I’ll come back to it, but it was good enough to listen to twice.
3.75 stars
One of my favorite jazz albums.
For a long time, this was the first album I'd think of when I wanted to listen to some jazz, and it's still one of the albums I reach for when I go on a kick or am looking to listen to something during the evening while cooking/eating dinner.
Great album 5/5
3 Stars.
Being disconnected from the time period/culture/politics of it all hurts this one a little and that's probably unfair, but it is what it is.
I love the jazzy bits, but could do without the vocals.
3.5 Stars
Positively SHOCKED at how much I enjoyed this. When I saw this pop up and hit play, I was convinced it would be a 1, maybe 2 star album that I wasn't into.
Am I going to come back to it much? Probably not, but seriously, what a pleasant surprise.
That being said, though, it's way too long. Cut 2-3 tracks off this thing and call it a day.
4 Stars
Good, fun guitar forward rock. It's got the song everybody knows, but some others you've probably heard/should hear.
It's a bit on the long side, though. Most of the songs could have 30-90 seconds trimmed and nobody would mind.
Side note: I read some of the other reviews. I'd really hate to be at a party with some of you folks. Sheesh
5 Stars.
Close to a perfect album with 4 all time great songs.
"Gimmie Three Steps" is listed under the definition of Jam Sandwich. AND they give you "Free Bird," too.
Get a grip with giving this less than 5. The review section here, predictably, has a bunch of know nothings spouting nonsense about racism. Classic low levels of human intelligence. Shoot me a message offline. I’ve got a bridge you might be interested in.
16 tracks in and I'm exhausted. There are some songs I like on here so far. Some of them I like quite a bit, but the album is just too long.
You can't put out an album this long and have it be this boring.
3 stars
It wasn’t bad. 10 years ago I’d have liked it a lot more. I might listen to it again at some point, but I wasn’t blown away on the first go round
2 stars.
Not for me. Too long and also just not my bag.
With the exception of "Song 2" I'm not sure I've ever even heard another blur song and judging by the rest of this album, there's a reason for that.
I cannot imagine being one of the poor suckers who think this band is better than Oasis. I was actually legitimately excited for this one because there's been so much debate about who is better, but it turns out the debate is simply normal people who are on the right side of history vs people who like subpar music.
All kidding aside, though, it's.....okay, I guess? But please, if you think this is better than even the worst Oasis album, get a grip and stop deluding yourself.
2.5 Stars
In general, I tend to not listen to live albums. There are very few live albums that I'd reach for over a regular studio album, but this one is great.
Outside of their big hit, I couldn't name you one of their songs, but I'm excited to dig into more of their stuff after this.
4 Stars
It’s a 4 star album that could be 5 if it wasn’t so long.
Some great songs here, with the run from “Houses of the Holy” through “Night Fight” being the strongest. But you do get a bit tired by the end.
Well...what can you say about this album? I guess I'll just lay out what I went through.
Seeing the selection: "Oh, okay. mid-late 90s alternative album with a kinda cool cover from a band I've never heard of, this could be good"
Seeing the length: "Uh oh, it's a bit on the long side, I hope this is good"
Several seconds into the first song: "Oh no, this isn't going to be good"
Several more seconds into the first song: "Wait a minute, this might actually end up being great"
Some other point during the album: "Okay, this is too long and should end soon"
After the album finished: "Yeah, that was a disappointment"
2.5 stars.
“Wouldn’t it be hilarious if we convinced people this was one of the 1001 best albums of all time” - the guys who made this list, probably
Can’t justify 1 star, but I’ll never listen to this again
I don't know. It didn't do anything for me.
2.5 Stars
Edit: Just read some of the other reviews. Kinda glad I didn't do a full on intentional listen on this one.
Ehhh...we're on a run of lackluster albums lately.
This one is fine, but the only song I'm likely to come back to is the one I already know.
3.5 Stars
I can't say I've ever really understood the appeal of David Bowie. The album is pretty good, but it's also not something I will come back to often nor did it make me want to take a trip through his discography.
This was released the same year as The Very Best of Elvis Costello and The Attractions 1977-86. I had that album and listened to it a few times. I don't remember much of it, but I remember thinking it was good. Couldn't name you a song from it, though.
Anyway, I didn't have Brutal Youth and that is a shame because this is awesome! For a guy who released his first album in 1977, you'd think that 1994 would be a late stage output, but this isn't even the halfway mark for him! Wild stuff.
Some really fun, catchy jams on here. It doesn't really feel like a 90s album and that is just fine with me; most of it sounds like it's from another time. Very cool. But then there's also these shades of punk rock throughout it. Also very cool.
What more is there to say? A very solid 4 stars on this one. I don't think I can justify a 5, because it's a little on the long side and you could probably cut 2-3 of the songs on the back half, but you I could go to a 4.5 if we had the option.
Post review reading addendum: The peanut gallery out in full force on this site once again. Get a life, folks. The album rules.
One of these songs is good. The rest are not. Some are okay.
2 stars, I guess
3 Stars.
2-3 really good, maybe even great songs and then the rest is just okay.
Yet another, "how is this on the list" entry
We seem to be stuck in this cycle of albums that are fine, but not incredible. I get it. 1001 is a big number when it comes to albums, but there's a lot on this list that shouldn't be here. This is one of them.
The album is fine. There are even a couple really good songs, but I'll never listen to it again.
3 Stars
Post Review Reading Note: There are way too many 5 star ratings on the main page of this album. I can absolutely see someone giving it 4 stars; in a different mood maybe I would have done the same. 3.5 maybe for sure. But 5?! Folks....Stop yourselves. Come back to me. Be serious. Get real.
U2 is one of those bands that on paper, I should love, but I’ve never gotten into them. Something just never fully clicks for me.
This is the best album I’ve heard from them, though. Really a great album. 4 easy stars. Maybe even 4.5.
Of the 60+ albums I've gotten on this journey so far, this was the hardest to rate. I immediately hated it when it started, but as it went on, I think I started to like it? At least a little.
A lot of it reminds me of a kind of a proto version of The White Stripes, a band I also don't really like, but sometimes do. Sometimes he does this Elvis impersonation. There's random talking throughout it. It is a weird album and I'm not really sure what to do with it.
I think it's a 3.5
Obligatory "I don't usually like live albums" statement goes here.
Sam Cooke is great. This album is great. It sounds like it was a blast to record. Lots of crowd interaction which would generally be a negative for me, but this is so much fun that it's ultimately a positive.
4 Stars.
I'm 3 songs into this thing so far and I am struggling. The first song was entirely forgettable, so much so that I didn't realize the album started until track 2 which was also forgettable since I don't remember it. Track 3 just ended, but wasn't any good.
The remaining 6 tracks didn't get any better. You can't give it a 1 because it's not actively bad in a way that makes you want to shut it off immediately, but you can't give it higher than a 2 because it stinks.
No way this is one of the 1001 best albums ever made, or even one of the ones you need to hear at any point in your life. I bet the reviews section is going to be littered with people falling all over themselves to love this thing.
Post review read: I was wrong, a lot of people actually seem to agree with me on this one. Shocking
