1001 Albums Summary

I knew more than I expected to. May This Be Love was my favourite.

I had no idea what to expect and this blew me away. Excellent music for my morning commute.

Not quite right for my commute, need to be enjoyed while unwinding with a scotch.

I liked this way more than I expected. I think I’m a Dylan unplugged fan. Masters of War is a little too timely.

I didn’t love this. I thought the covers didn’t stand up to the originals and Respect definitely feels different coming from a man.

One oh your albums where guy can hear the skill and understand the importance but it’s not for you. As a middle aged white woman I’m not the intended audience and that’s okay, I did like The Chronic Outro, The Day the Niggaz Took Over, and Lyrical Gangbang.

A great album to wake up on your commute to. Weather Storm is a perfect “staring out the window of a train song”

This was great. I’d give it 9 out of 10 if I could.

Pretty good but samey. I had no idea that Love Hurts was a cover.

I know it’s a strone cold classic but it just didn’t speak to me.

I really like this, especially Atlantic City.

I was surprised by how many songs I knew. I especially liked Jump Into the Fire.

I was burned by a million fart boys playing Jamming over and over in university so it was so nice to hear this much less overplayed album.

The harmonies are out of this world. I love the wall of sound production.

Highway Star is ridiculously good but the rest was kind of forgettable.

The beards made me think they were more of a novelty band, but this was fantastic.

Some wonderful surprises in style.

Showstopper.

Beautiful voices but it didn't really capture me. It was strange to hear Rosewood Casket just days after Dolly's death.

Beautiful anthemic songs. Best songs: Lonesome Day and My City of Ruins. Worst song: Let’s Be Friends.

The highs are high but it was mostly just fine. Some of it was much bluesier than expected, especially Ice Cream Man. Best song: Runnin’ with the Devil. Worst song: Jamie’s Crying.

There are no bad song on this album but Respect is an all timer. I also really like Do Right Woman, Do Right Man. I feel like you could feel the connective tissue between country and R&B.

Ethereal. I especially like the soaring background chorus on Undo, the tinkling on Frosti. Union was an amazing ending.

It was all so wonderful it’s hard to pick a favourite. I think Four Women will stay with me the most.

I don't love Everybody Want to Rule the World so it was a pleasent surprise hear the rest of this ablum. I especially like The Working Hour, Head Over Heels/Broken, and Listen.

I love Bowie so I was surprised by how meh I felt about this. Nothing stood out either as very good or very bad. It was fine.

Psycho Killer is an absolute banger. I also really liked Don’t Worry About the Government.

I liked Mother Earth (Natural Anthem) a lot. I did not care for Farmer John. Overall I appreciate the skill but it didn't blow me away.

I had very high expectations for this ablum and I was not disappointed. Obiviously Hurt is a master piece but When the Man Comes Around and I Hung My Head. I know In my Life but I heard it differently this time. It was exactly how I fell about my partner. Probably my least favourite was Tear Stained Letter, though "It'll be about the darkest news, That ever did arrive in your hometown. It'll be about the saddest thing, Your mailman ever did bring around." really made me laugh.

I was all set to give this a 4 but Sweetest Devotion pushed it up to a 5. Some of these songs were so over saturated in clutter when they came out that I wasn't sure if they'd still have any power. I was wrong. Water Under the Bridge and River Lea were the standouts but Love In The Dark was close behind. I was surprised Million Years Ago wasn't a cover of an older song, and I mean that as a compliment. This album came out the year my marriage fell apart and a lot of these songs felt like the conversations about the end of a relationship that I wish we could have had.

I didn’t care for this album. It was far too jam band-y for me. Having said that I did enjoy Poem 58 and Free Form Guitar.

The longer I listened the less I enjoyed this. I found the soporific pace dull, though I can imagine for other people it might feel mellow. I was surprised by how much crossover there is between her music and Taylor Swift’s. I enjoyed Tulsa Jesus Freak but Not All Who Wander are Lost, and Yosemite were where they lost me.

It was interesting to hear the influence of bands like the Beach Boys and The Beatles. I found the first half of the album pleasent if forgetable. It got more interesting the further it got. I'll Be Your Mirror has special significance for me, and I really liked The Black Angel's Death Song.

I was expecting to hate this album. I dislike the singles and think Wake Me Up When September Ends is one of my least favourite songs of all time. So I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. Songs that feel bombastic or sappy on the radio make sonic sense in context. Don’t get me wrong, Wake Me Up When September Ends still isn’t great but other songs made up for it. I especially liked Are We the Waiting and the glockenspiel on Homecoming.

A wonderful, soft album for a beautiful fall morning. I mostly know they Grateful Dead’s jam band reputation so I was pleasantly surprised by the relative tightness of the tracks. I really liked Box of Rain and Friend of the Devil was a song I loved in my early 20s that I hadn’t heard in decades. It was such a lovely gift to rediscover it.

Obviously Go West is a masterpiece and I also enjoyed Yesterday When I Was Mad and The Theatre. Overall though it just didn’t grab me.

It’s Led Zeppelin so of course the album is solid. Kashmir is an all timer, but I also really liked the quieter moments like Bron-Yr-Aur.

I was a little nervous about a krautrock album but I really enjoyed this. I found Aumgn especially interesting and lovely. The beginning of the album was good, but I found the second, more experimental half even better.

Joan Armatrading's voice is unbelievable. I didn't love Join the Boys but I was taken with the rest right from the beginning of Down to Zero. The harmonies on Love and Affection are like nothing else in the best possible way.

It was good to remember what Coldplay sounded like before they were making music designed to fill huge arena. Don't Panic was nostaglic (I grew up in the Garden State years) and I really liked Shiver. There were moments when it sounded like Chris Martin was channeling Jeff Buckley. Having send that Yellow is terrible.

The cover of Iron Man was cool and I really, really liked Losers. Lovefool is a classic. There were some wonderful surprises that bumped this up to a 4.

I knew that I really liked The Power of Love but the whole album was great. Welcome to the Pleasuredom was an amazing surprise of a track and I really liked the Born to Run cover. I didn't care for San Jose (The Way) but not enough that it distracted from the album as a whole.

I really liked this ablum. I was surprised by the amount of humour in the lyrics, especially Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. I thought I'd miss The Byrds version of Mr. Tambourine Man, but the original is just lovely.

This album was stunning. I wish I had a CD insert so I could dive into the lyrics. I wanted to listen to All Thoughts Are Prey to Some Beast immediately.

I can tell how influential this album is because I kept hearing snatches of other songs that were inspired by it. Unfortunately I like those other songs better. There were no bad songs and the one I liked best was Bold as Love.
