1001 Albums Summary

One of my all-time favorite albums. Still feels relevant.

Janis’ vocals are impressive but each song starts out strong instrumentally and seems to be interrupted when she chimes in. ‘Turtle Blues’ is a gem. ‘Piece of my Heart’ remains incredible and is the highlight. Cheap Thrills is a great time capsule, but shouldn’t be on the list.

Not my favorite by talking Heads-probably the least listened to. One of the best things musically to happen to 1978. Percussive experimentation before losing the original 4-piece band feel.

Who said I had to listen to this before I died? Reminds me of lost causes like Aztec Camera, the Dream Academy, etc…interesting moment as the new wave came crashing down. The romance was already over.

Sweet and original! Loved revisiting! Nearly great! Not enough memorable songs.

I love this! Post punk reveals the aesthetes that emerged from the punk scene who paved the way for New Wave. There is a true appreciation for beauty buried inside all of the cold repetition. Death Disco still gets me going!

Kicks ass! Not a great album.

Obvious comparisons to be made to Pink Floyd’s The Wall (a better album). I was dreading this one. Not a rock opera fan in general, and I’d never listened to this album front to back before. I was surprised though by how listenable it was. Nothing very impressive musically. A handful of minor hits. 3/5 because of it’s ‘significance’.

What is even the point of an ambient album? The idea of a beginning and an end is antithetical to its nature. This may be beautiful at times, but it’s ultimately meaningless. An arbitrary collection of pleasant sounds does not an album make. Should not be on the list.

-has 3+ killer hits -beautifully produced -culturally relevant -great song writing (mostly-I’m looking at you, Vicious) -fun to listen to

Biggy came on after my time, so I was never really exposed. I can see why people love him. Not an easy listen though.

Cute, but…

Wowee Zowee is better.

Points for recommending a band/album that I’ve never heard of. I was ready to hate it, but hints of the flaming lips made it more interesting. Not sure I’d listen to it again. Funny bird was the highlight for me.

Stockholm Syndrome: I’ve got to give it points for the sheer amount of time I found myself exposed to this album. An innovative pop album that has not aged well.
