Pretty good. “I have a lil leather jacket but I’m sad I live in the big dirty city”, à la the Strokes

A master at work, with the band locked right in. Effortless but still clear how skilled she is

Not bad! New to me. Some cool moments and some indulgent spacey strings etc

Pretty great! Love a riff. “Jailbait” aged like milk, but Love Me Like A Reptile is my new fav 🤘.

He’s obviously a genius, but a lot of this is just not really my scene. Harsh 80’s synths, and so many sex noises Jesus Christ. I feel like I need someone to explain more context. Obv inspired lots of other greats, esp the singing

Some great tunes that forecast what was to come. Some less focused or youthful stuff that doesn’t hold up as well.

So heavy. Sad to have gotten into some of these bands so long after my teens

Some all time bars, great beats and unfortunate 90’s misogyny.

Lots of pretty good? Do you like Smashing Pumpkins but wish they sounded ever so slightly happier? This could be the record for you

Time capsule! I guess in tandem with Indie Sleaze (tm) there was also what I didn’t recognize at the time as a siouxie and the banshees 80’s dark girl revival? Maps is still an all timer.

Some great new wave/DEVO riffs, Mellow Biafra vocals. Ripped straight from the Revenge of the Needs soundtrack.

Oh to be a candy-coated potato chip. An auspicious album for the week Rifflandia announced it was done. Lots of fond memories of the confetti blizzard of 2012. Objectively is a myth, context is all that matters in making you love the art you love. Sorry!

I guess obviously a huge influence on things that followed. But might go in the one-and-done pile for me.

Pretty diverse? Some super 90’s indie rock, some straight up Rolling Stones, a pinch of Uk industrial reggae or something? Not bad, not a revelation either.

Some nice crunchy 70’s guitars, but overall pretty disjointed, too much Mike and not enough Brian?

“Wide reaching and innovative” or “all over the place”? Who can say. Definitely DOES sound like they are all learning their instruments, so that’s authentic.

4 discs is “too much chocolate cake”. The performer and artist are both among the greatest ever, but consuming too much of the same thing, the dense puns and wordplay and the same harmonic vibe, it’s hard to keep paying attention.

Shockingly good sounding! Esp drums and guitar. Au naturel. Heck yeah!

Quite a bit more straight up 80’s DEVO esque weirdo pop, on top of the insanely catchy novelty songs. Pretty fun!

Virtuosity at an overwhelming level. Pretty potent, best absorbed in bite sized chunks. Makes me want to see it live.

One of the great roots records. Deep.

Major flashbacks to the minidisc player, much sadder in context of Layne’s death. Great big rock sounds!

2hrs is 2 many. Weird mix. Maybe in the right context, but hardly an “album”, no?

Some stone cold classics, nice sounding instruments. Definitely some skippable generic blues “album tracks”.

Definitely forgot Smoke on the Water is just a straight up diary entry from Switzerland or whatever. Not the most intellectually stimulating record, but there may be a “mood effect” today.

Makes me bummed I never got organized to see him in his final era. More compelling takes on religious complexities than most priests.

Pretty sweet! Not a band I really knew before, but some of the tunes will probably enter the rotation. Diverse songs with clear identities

The singles are so strong the rest of the album could be amplified fart sounds and it would still be a stone cold classic. And to be clear, some of them are.

Iconic. Beautifully captures the desolate suburban youth apocalypse. So shitty to once again get so attached to a piece of art and then be betrayed by its author’s bad behaviour.

Need more context to get it. Everybody’s Talkin’ is a cool song, but the overpolished vibe of the recording and performance is wack

I always forget how good the guitar playing and tone is, in the face of the iconic songwriting. One of the faces on Rushmore

Childhood fav, most doesn’t really hold up. Fond memories, but a bit “music for the theoretically horny”?

A foundation upon which much has been built, including a bunch more diverse genres than I had thought? And an all-time rock vocalist. RIP Shane

I know all these songs pretty well, but surprised to find a lot of them are different versions? Not sure if it’s familiarity bias, but this seems very scrappy and a bit under cooked compared to the other versions I’ve heard.

Pretty mid? Classic 90’s production, weird pretentious lyrics. I donno, maybe I’m missing something.

Funny mix! 40% pretty great “sweetheart of the rodeo” esque hippy country, 60% uncomfortable “jazz” instrumentals and sickly sweet mid century pop

Hard to separate it from all the bad singing “auteurs” that were inspired by it. Couple nice tunes.

Nice fired up young Elvis! The southern soul tunes are best for my money. Great big fuzzy bass tone. In The Ghetto always makes me think of Cartman.

Very deadpan 80’s pop.
