Oh to be a candy-coated potato chip. An auspicious album for the week Rifflandia announced it was done. Lots of fond memories of the confetti blizzard of 2012. Objectively is a myth, context is all that matters in making you love the art you love. Sorry!
I guess obviously a huge influence on things that followed. But might go in the one-and-done pile for me.
Pretty diverse? Some super 90’s indie rock, some straight up Rolling Stones, a pinch of Uk industrial reggae or something? Not bad, not a revelation either.
Some nice crunchy 70’s guitars, but overall pretty disjointed, too much Mike and not enough Brian?
“Wide reaching and innovative” or “all over the place”? Who can say. Definitely DOES sound like they are all learning their instruments, so that’s authentic.
4 discs is “too much chocolate cake”. The performer and artist are both among the greatest ever, but consuming too much of the same thing, the dense puns and wordplay and the same harmonic vibe, it’s hard to keep paying attention.

The singles are so strong the rest of the album could be amplified fart sounds and it would still be a stone cold classic. And to be clear, some of them are.
Iconic. Beautifully captures the desolate suburban youth apocalypse. So shitty to once again get so attached to a piece of art and then be betrayed by its author’s bad behaviour.
Need more context to get it. Everybody’s Talkin’ is a cool song, but the overpolished vibe of the recording and performance is wack

I know all these songs pretty well, but surprised to find a lot of them are different versions? Not sure if it’s familiarity bias, but this seems very scrappy and a bit under cooked compared to the other versions I’ve heard.

Nice fired up young Elvis! The southern soul tunes are best for my money. Great big fuzzy bass tone. In The Ghetto always makes me think of Cartman.
