1001 Albums Summary

Where most music is the soundtrack to feelings, jazz is the rhythm to life. Like tapping into that unseen energy that surrounds us and putting it to music. I’ve a rudimentary understanding of jazz so we’ll call this my introduction and I was quite pleased!

Essential pop album of the 50s. Incredibly catchy tunes that clearly shaped the lives of influential artists of decades later. Like David Lee Roth of Van Halen fame. Scatting is like Ska. We don’t need more of it because that which exists is suffice enough.

Much like any great trend in Britain, this album overstayed its welcome. Somehow this album feels much longer than its hour runtime.

This album has the feel of an aged man giving his heart out to a life he’s lived. And it’s all written by a 22 year old. This is a wonderful album with a meditative quality to it!

It’s a testament to the voice of the artist and their talent behind any instrument if they can take “Just a Gigolo,” and turn it to a reflective somber tune of love and time. Give it 28 years later, David Lee Roth will be bouncing around the stage like a goofball to that tune. For now, At Mister Kelly’s, we’ll listen with Sarah’s calmness.

This feels like the start of most Tool songs and I kept waiting for the song to begin. After 40 minutes, nothing.

This is the closest an artist could ever continue to reach out from the dead. 10 years on now. You can feel that, above all else, Bowie wanted to leave something for his die hard fans.

Conception begins at 3:27 on the song I’ve Seen All Good People. This is the pinnacle of pro-rock. As nature as the evolution of man.

Give a band credit where credit is due. This is a sign to stick to what you like to do because it’ll eventually work out. This came out in 1983? 1983?!? Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes (Luke’s favorite) came out the same year as this. How can I call this ahead of its time if it’s carving the time ahead of itself!

These Flaming Lips aren’t that bad. This is my first exposure to them ever. Can’t believe I’ve gone this long!

The bread to my buttery ear wax. This stuff is what the 60s gave way to. What I imagine inspired Danny O’Keefe to make The Road and likewise. Give Dillard & Clark a listen if you can.

This is the Abbey Road for monogamist sex albums. It’s important that such work was put towards the bedroom ambience. It shows they had their priorities right. I tagged no skin in my teenage years but I can imagine those that were skinning’, the equivalent to this album was “Views” by Drake. Yuck

Didn’t need to hear Biggie have sex.

Can’t say I’m surprised that an 1960s album filled with anti-racist, civil rights tunes laid out by excellent rhythm and masterful guitar work, was overshadowed by the one song with “Scooby Doobie Doo” as a lyric.

This was an uninteresting album. Not bad on a technical level, just forgettable in every sense of the word. Norah Jones being featured was a plus.

I wish I had an hour and 6 minutes of my life to know if Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg smoke weed, kill people, and/or fuck women. I really wished they expressed these actions in 4-5 minutes songs with little beat change. How’s this a classic?

Millennial music, or as I call it “Tom’s Music,” hits a very nostalgic feeling for me. It reminds me of the youth ski retreats we did at my church. All the youth leaders being the archetypical Millennial. This music blaring in their beat up Honda Accord. This is like my grandparents reminiscing about eating at some diner while Buddy Holly plays on the radio.

This is an excellent album. Fellas seems quite perturb

Despite the first song being used in the Viking show, and for good reason, the rest of the album sounds like 90s dentist office waiting room music.

Dr. Dre’s The Chronic being issued here first has helped the score of this album to skyrocket. This album sounds like Mozart. Something 2 Dance 2 seems like a dry fart compared to the other tracks but this truly is a great album.

Can’t believe the guy who made the end credits song for Emperor’s New Groove had a whole ass band making music and the like. This music has a real Sting to it.

Oddly enough, this album really grew on me by the last song (typically most people like desert). I can see how this band sort of fell by the wayside compared to its 90s contemporaries.

Thin Lizzy but British! Get it

The epicenter for the sampling revolution of the late 80s to the 2010s. Shows funk isn’t a genre of music but the style by which you walk. The way you speak. Curtis Mayfield is Tchaikovsky.

Music like this is why dive bars were created.

Nice little album. Cute head bopping love songs. Not surprising coming from the artist that did “Signed, Sealed, and Delivered.”

This is a great soundtrack to making deliveries in a box truck!

The steel guitar is the harp that leads sad men to Heaven’s Gate; a bar that shows still images of boobs on the TV’s hanging in every corner. The songs are the same but moods rarely shift with the winds.

He had a pretty nice voice. Seems like he’s read the Bible.

If they picked a lane in any of the genres presented; they’d be one of the greats. Oh well.

If this project has opened my ears to the beautiful sounds of jazz; then it’s aided to pouring wax in my ears to punk. This album was just ok. It’s the genre for me.
