First album! I don't listen to much bob Dylan so most of these songs were new to me. Idiot wind and if you see her say hello were my favorite new to me songs from this album
I had no idea what to expect from this group and album I've never heard of but I enjoyed it. It was interesting to consider how different krautrock from 1975 sounds from American rock from the same year. There were several songs that were exclusively instrumental and lots of use of nature sounds like waves and rain. It was only the last long that I think I could have placed as rock from the 70s. Leb'wohl and after 8 were my favorites.
This is the first album on the list that came out in my living memory. While I never listened to the album in full I clearly remember it's two hits praise you and funk soul brother. In 1998 sounded so current to the point that it felt futuristic. I remember feeling like this is what all music would sound like in the 2000s. I think it's hits are my favorite songs from the album but it was a fun listen over all. In the intro to funk soul brother a voice says fat boy slim is the band of the 90s and idk if that's true but the band of 1998 maybe lol.
I loved it! Another album I was aware of but never listened to straight through. It was definitely longer than absolutely necessary but I enjoyed it all. I especially loved to tell the truth and why does love got to be so sad? They sounded like songs that should be more ubiquitous i was surprised I hadn't heard them before!
Another album I know of but I had never listened it it the whole way through. I enjoyed it but my favorite songs on the album were the hits Rio and hungry like the wolf. Classics for a reason
I have been meaning to listen to this album since I listened to her memoirs a few months ago. Such an interesting album like nothing I've ever heard. Patti Smith is very cool.
First rap album on the list. I've heard of this album and heard about these songs but never listened to the album and to me all of these songs felt brand new. It was fascinating! Very violent and sexist. I loved the use of newcasts and laughed at the song about fairytale. Just when it's a man's world felt too sexist for me to enjoy femal rapper yo yo hopped on the track and saved the day. I'm still amazed how dated an album released in the year of my birth sound lol
Another ablum I've heard of but never listened to all the way through. So many great classic songs. It's hard to pick a favorite and fogertys voice just makes you want to sing along. So many albums from the 70s so far 5/8 and I think those years were either 1970 or 1975.
I enjoyed this album. The beats by dj premier were so classic. Having the 1990 album amerikkka's most wanted album followed so closely by this 1991 gang starr album was such an interesting contrast because in year they are very close but in sound very different! Gang starr is so east cost and the lack of violence and sexism makes it feel more timeless to me. Even though I've heard of the group I got them confused with black star and didn't know these tracks glad I could change that.
This is the first metal album on the list and the first one I would consider way outside my listening comfort zone. I would say most of these songs are sons I would change the channel on if they came on the radio that's why this is such a nice exercise in giving everything a full listen. Idk how much this is true but this sounds so typical to me of metal (google says theyre one of the big 4 of the thrash metal genre). I was particularly surprised by the song cry for the Indians about the plight of native people in this country and one world about unity and the cold war which is just not what I thought metal covered lyrically.
What a great album. I'm 98 percent sure we had this cd at my parents house so this album it's possible I've heard before. 5 of the 9 songs are what I would consider classics and at 35 minutes this album packs a tremendous bang for your time buck. For a 1978 album this sure sounds 80s to me but I know there are some 1998 songs that sound so early 2000s so I think it makes sense lol
Never heard of this group or album but loved it! Once again like nothing I've ever heard. Pure for wonderful and lion thief were all stand outs for me
Another album that I've long known about with several classics that I've known forever. Hells bells was the ringtone for my dad for a long time lol. The story behind this album make it that much more fascinating. To lose a front man and come back with a bigger hit than ever is kind of unfathomable to me.
Rem is a band I've heard a lot about and in the 90s were definitely on the radio a ton but I've never really sought out there music but I enjoyed this album. It's big hits were end of the world as we know it and the one I love but I think my favorite track on the album was exhuming McCarthy. It's funny when in art things feel boring or obvious but you realize it only seems that way because it so influenced things that came after and when it first came out it broke new ground.
First live album on the list. Really incredible! It makes me get the who in a way I haven't before. The drums! The guitar! A lot of songs here i haven't heard. I'm a boy felt so current! The amazing journey sparks medley was a highlight for me!
I've never heard of this group or this album. So classic late 70s it felt like something I should have heard before. Definitely the kind of thing I'm going this project to hear
Cry to me is such a bop. I don't think I liked any of the other songs quite as much but I do really love 60s soul so I enjoyed this album a lot
First repeat artist! So what i didn't say about the first album was it sounded so 90s I was shocked it was from 87 and I feel the same about this so far very early. Way more 80s but they were among the bands of the 90s so I think the r.e.m. sound just is 90s even if this album is 83!
What an album. 4 songs in 45 minutes. Clearly a big influence on hip hop. I know this has been sampled so much I could even hear that bed spring beat.
Omg this was so British! I know the kinks but maybe only 1or 2 of these songs. I think Victoria the first song was my favorite
