Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 4.8 Summary: A gentle blend of R&B and Soul with the spice coming from the bass and Hammond organ. Favorite Song: Green Onions Least Favorite Song: Rinky Dink Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 10 Replayability: 8 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 8.15 Review: This felt like a lighthearted reimagining of the American folk genre filled with heavenly harmonics and airy melodies. The only ding is the songs are so similar that there's no obvious best choice, yet it doesn't become too repetitive. Liked Song(s): Sun It Rises, Ragged Wood, Quiet Houses, He Doesn't Know Why, Meadowlarks, Blue Ridge Mountains Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 8 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 7.05 Review: I grew up on Steely Dan, so these songs were played frequently over the years. This album is quintessential yacht rock with the well-produced marriage between its slick jazz beats and classic rock sound. Although I wouldn't choose to listen to this entire album on repeat due to its slower pacing, Deacon Blues, Peg, and Josie will remain favorites of mine with a newfound love of Black Cow. Liked Song(s): Black Cow, Deacon Blues, Peg, Josie Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 5.4 Review: I dig the the progressive and psychedelic nature of these tracks, but there are multiple dull stretches where they just mix together with little substance. Overall, an average album. Liked Song(s): She Has Funny Cars, Somebody to Love, 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds, White Rabbit Disliked Song(s): My Best Friends, Plastic Fantastic Lover Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 8 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 7.05 Review: This album is jam packed with hits and some deeper cut gems. This was a pleasure to listen through. Liked Song(s): Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding, Candle In The Wind, Bennie And The Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Grey Seal, The Ballad Of Danny Bailey (1909-1934), Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) Disliked Song(s): Jamaica Jerk-Off Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 3 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4 Review: I'm all for progressive and indie music, but there was very little concrete enough for me to grab onto and enjoy. And some tracks just felt abrasive to my ears, but maybe that's the point. Liked Song(s): Kamera, Jesus, Etc., Heavy Metal Drummer, I'm the Man Who Loves You Disliked Song(s): I Am Trying to Break Your Heart Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.65 Review: I listened to this album 4 times in 24 hours. I tried to like it, but I'm not into the punk or industrial sound. I can respect what it is and why it's meaningful, but it's not for me. Liked Song(s): Nightclubbing, China Girl, Dum Dum Boys Disliked Song(s): Funtime, Mass Production Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 6.5 Review: This is the first time I've listened to a Stones album all the way through. Of course they're a phenomenal band that has become synonymous with the idea of Rock 'n' Roll itself, but they're right on the periphery of my taste in rock. I've never heard any of these songs until today, and most sounded like filler to the point where after five songs in, the music all blended together. I liked the blend, but nothing stuck out as exceptional like I would expect from this band. Liked Song(s): Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Sweet Virginia, Loving Cup, All Down The Line, Shine A Light, Soul Survivor Disliked Song(s): Shake Your Hips, Turd On The Run, Ventilator Blues, I Just Want To See His Face Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 5.2 Review: This was a fun listen. I likely would've enjoyed it more if I understood the words, but my ears don't need English to respect a good album. Liked Song(s): El Habra Wine, Imagine, Ya Aachkou Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 5.95 Review: I have only listened to a few R.E.M. songs in the past, so this was the first time I've listened to an entire album of theirs. If they're as good as this one, I'm looking forward to more. Liked Song(s): Radio Free Europe, Pilgrimage, Catapult, 9-9 Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.95 Review: This was a cool experimental album, but it's ethereal nature made its chord progressions very repetitive. Liked Song(s): Run, Symphony Space, 200 Bars Disliked Song(s): Take Your Time, Shine a Light, Sway Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.25 Review: Another cool experimental album, but this time the highs were not so high and the lows were lower than I hoped, which didn't leave much room for the neutral space in between. Overall, there's some funky and fun sounds, but again, very repetitive making it difficult to want to listen this over and over. Liked Song(s): Eple, Poor Leno, Remind Me Disliked Song(s): A Higher Place, Röyksopp's Night Out, 40 Years Come Back Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 5.8 Review: U2 nails the Rock sound as it evolves in the 1980s with this album. You can hear the frustration of their lyrics reflected in the timbre of their guitars. That being said, there's still some dull stretches where the music all blends together. Liked Song(s): Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year's Day Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 6.1 Review: This album scratched my inner teen angst itch. Overall a decent album, that gives nostalgia without having known the tracks beforehand. Liked Song(s): A Good Idea, Hoover Dam, Fortune Teller Disliked Song(s): Slick Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 5.95 Review: I've only listened to a handful of rap and hip-hop songs throughout my life, so in my highly uninformed opinion of the genre, this was a very solid album. I felt it elegantly conveyed the struggles of those in marginalized communities and bridged a gap to make those struggles feel relatable and shared so people from all walks of life can feel empowered through music to command their own destinies. Liked Song(s): Funky For You, A Song For Assata, Pops Rap III...All My Children Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 5.55 Review: The only Kate Bush song I've heard before this album was Running Up That Hill (from Stranger Things of course). The rest of the tracks were decent and I've added up a couple to my playlists, but not much to write home with. I liked the dreamy and experimental pop on the back half, but I didn't connect with it as much as I would've liked to. Liked Song(s): Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God), The Big Sky, Jig Of Life Disliked Song(s): And Dream Of Sheep Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 8 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 8 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 7.05 Review: This album wanted me to travel back to early 2000s Austria, stay at a hostel, and go clubbing to these songs. Liked Song(s): Take Me Out, The Dark Of The Matinée, This Fire, Darts Of Pleasure Disliked Song(s): Auf Achse Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.8 Review: Although this album was slow, Nick's voice and the piano were still a pleasure to listen to. I'll probably listen to this again when the environment is right, like a slow and rainy Sunday morning. Liked Song(s): People Ain't No Good, West Country Girl, Idiot Prayer Disliked Song(s): Black Hair, Green Eyes Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 5.25 Review: I'm not a particular fan of punk and grunge just because the music can give me quite the headache, but I also know that's the point. I respect the counter culture message to attack established oppresive systems, so the album averages it all out. Liked Song(s): Holidays in the Sun, Liar, God Save the Queen Disliked Song(s): Problems, Anarchy in the U.K. Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 5.55 Review: I wanted to like this album more than I actually did. The songs were decent and I'm a sucker for synths, but this is the first time I felt that I disagreed with the track order. Rio felt out of place at the top. I would've placed Rio deeper in the album as a reward for listening through. And most of the other tracks just blended together without sticking out as much as I would've wanted with the only exception being The Chaffeur, which I felt served its job as the cap of the album. Liked Song(s): Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, The Chaffeur Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 10 Replayability: 9 Cohesion: 9 Flow/Pacing: 8 Artistic Merit: 9 Weighted Average: 9.25 Review: This will be my first album to reach 5 stars. I just listened to this three times in a row. I couldn't stop. I've heard some Black Sabbath in my time and I just figured I wasn't a heavy metal head. But I now realize that listening to the whole album is the format in which it's supposed to be enjoyed. The harsh dissonant riffs, the rich bass, the enchanting drums, Ozzy's voice... it's all composed and mixed so perfectly together. Now onto listen number four. Liked Song(s): Black Sabbath, Wasp / Behind the Wall of Sleep / N.I.B., The Wizard, Wicked World, A Bit of Finger / Sleeping Village / Warning Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 2 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 1 Weighted Average: 2.9 Review: This album felt entirely inconsequential. I am the same person I was before listening to it as I am after, and I could've gone the rest of my life without ever needing to. The tracks were all just generic 90s pop that hold little merit to be on the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" list. Nothing sounds outright awful, I just think its accolades are undeserved. Liked Song(s): Son Of A Gun, Liberty Ship, There She Goes, Looking Glass Disliked Song(s): Doledrum, Way Out, Freedom Song, Failure Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 9 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 7.4 Review: This starts off as a pretty good jazz album. Then Maseru hits. And you see a romanticized montage of all the successes you're going to encounter in your life like the epilogue scene from La La Land. There's a brief lull halfway through, but before you can catch your breath, the tempo picks back up and boom immediate reprise. Besides that, the other tracks were intriguing and unique enough to hold their own, so I'll be returning back to this album frequently. Liked Song(s): Part Of A Whole, The Big Apple, Maseru, Inner Crisis, Maesha Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 9 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 7.5 Review: This was a great album to listen through with plenty of well-known hits and hidden gems found within. I loved how uplifting it was, especially the baby in the bath in Isn't She Lovely - such a sweet and tender addition that I never heard with the radio edit. My only mark is that since this is a double LP, it loses some points in the Replayability category due to its extended length. Long albums aren't a problem on their own, but this one seemed to drag a few times, but not as I expected really. Liked Song(s): Love's In Need Of Love Today, Sir Duke, I Wish, Pastime Paradise, Summer Soft, Isn't She Lovely, Black Man, Saturn Disliked Song(s): Have A Talk With God, Ordinary Pain, Easy Goin' Evening (My Mama's Call) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 6.5 Review: This was the most fun album I've listened to from this list as of yet. He definitely gives off Bo Burnham vibes with poignant analogies and smart lyrical choices - I audibly laughed at the Sigourney Weaver track. Very wide range of emotional complexity. Liked Song(s): TC and Honeybear, Where Dreams Go to Die, Sigourney Weaver, Chicken Bones, Silver Platter Club, Jesus Hates F*ggots, Queen of Denmark Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 4.45 Review: I never really bought into the appeal of the Beastie Boys. Their songs are sick rager party music - but that's about it. If you've heard one, then you've heard them all. I will say the samples they used were creative and interesting, but that's about it for me. Liked Song(s): Shake Your Rump, Car Thief, What Comes Around, B-Boy Bouillabaisse: A Year And A Day Disliked Song(s): The Sounds Of Science, Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 9 Replayability: 9 Cohesion: 10 Flow/Pacing: 10 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 9.1 Review: This confirms it, I'm a metal head. Liked Song(s): Invaders, Children of the Damned, The Prisoner, 22 Acacia Avenue, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Gangland, Hallowed Be Thy Name Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 6.1 Review: Another Rolling Stones album where I'm a little disappointed because I expected more. Liked Song(s): Sympathy For The Devil, Street Fighting Man, Salt Of The Earth Disliked Song(s): Factory Girl Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 6.55 Review: Amy Winehouse brought back 60s soul with enough modern flair for me to like it slightly more than Aretha Franklin apparently. Overall, an enjoyable listen. Liked Song(s): Rehab, You Know I'm No Good, Just Friends, Back To Black, Love Is A Losing Game, Addicted Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.05 Review: I enjoyed the bass and guitar throughout this entire album, but I'm not a fan of how soft and breathy the vocals all are. It causes the tracks to just blend together in a puff of hot breath blown in my ear. Liked Song(s): Mambo Sun, Jeepster, Bang a Gong (Get It On), Rip Off Disliked Song(s): Monolith, Planet Queen, Life's a Gas Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 2 Replayability: 1 Cohesion: 2 Flow/Pacing: 1 Artistic Merit: 1 Weighted Average: 1.5 Review: I am a known Taylor Swift hater, but I promise I did my best to keep that in check while listening to this album and truly be as impartial as possible. So I challenged myself to answer some of the following questions with each new track. Why does this album deserve to be on this list? How does it push the envelope to earn the recognition as one of the greatest of all time? Are there any golden nuggets in here that will help distinguish this album from its counterparts 50 years from now? Is Tay-Tay truly the best at resonating the struggles of love through music? (I mean that's the majority of her discography's content, so she must be excellent at it by now.) And all of these questions lead me to a single answer: no. Her "stylized", lowercase letter titles are the extent of her creativity, which leaves behind the actual music as an untouched mass of concentrated, gentrified, pop-slop. I did not like nor dislike any of her songs because I genuinely could not tell them apart. I do not even remember what I listened to because they left no impression at all. So this album gets a low score from me not because I'm a hater, but because it's addition to this list tarnishes the reputation of the thousand others. Liked Song(s): (None) Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.9 Review: This is my first time listening to Pavement - I like their sound, but I think only in doses. I'm a fan of 90s indie rock, but the guitar screeching proved to be too much for me as I ended the album with a headache. There were mediocre highs and unfortunately lower lows, so this'll have a worse rating than I gave Sugar. Liked Song(s): Silence Kid, Cut Your Hair, Gold Soundz Disliked Song(s): Unfair, Hit the Plane Down Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 6.05 Review: Funny to have back to back indie rock albums from around the same era, but I ended up liking this one a lot more. The vocals and lyrics carried themselves further and I appreciated the twinge of psychedelic rock that naturally incorporated itself into their groove. Overall, a pretty solid album. Liked Song(s): I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, Bye Bye Bad Man, (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister Disliked Song(s): Elizabeth My Dear, Fools Gold Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 1 Replayability: 1 Cohesion: 3 Flow/Pacing: 2 Artistic Merit: 2 Weighted Average: 1.55 Review: I am truly at a loss of words for this. If I barely appreciate punk as is, then post-punk is completely aloof to me. I do not understand how this album could appeal to anyone. Liked Song(s): (None) Disliked Song(s): Albatross, Swan Lake, Careering, Graveyard, The Suit, Bad Baby, Chant Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 6.3 Review: Blitzkrieg Bop was the only Ramones song that I've listened to up to this point. It's got a strong, fast beat, good bass to rock your head to, and it's actual punk that I can both tolerate and enjoy. I then found out all the tracks on the album are also like this, but a little too similarly. Every track sounds the same as the last, so it got old by the end. Liked Song(s): Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Judy Is a Punk, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Havana Affair, I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You Disliked Song(s): Chain Saw, 53rd & 3rd Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 5.55 Review: My verdict is still out on this one - it's as far out as these psychedelic jokers were when they bottled their trip in musical form. I enjoy it's funky and experimental nature, especially the variety in instruments like the harpsichord and flute, but to choose a 19 MINUTE closing track is just bonkers. Liked Song(s): Stephanie Knows Who, Orange Skies, ¡Que Vida!, She Comes in Colors Disliked Song(s): Revelation Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 5 Review: This Beastie Boys album was better than the last. It had more variety, and I felt more nostalgia for the songs I already knew and appreciated. But again, if you've heard one of their songs, then you've heard them all. Great for a party mix, but if you add too many, it'll get stale. Liked Song(s): Girls, Fight For Your Right, Brass Monkey Disliked Song(s): The New Style, Slow Ride Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 3 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 2 Artistic Merit: 3 Weighted Average: 3.05 Review: This electric hip hop pop was a drag that I had to pull myself through. It's honestly the closest I've come to having to skip tracks just so I could say I completed the album. There was very little redeemable in my opinion that would make me want to listen again. Liked Song(s): (None) Disliked Song(s): Yo Yo, U Can't Stop Me, Stop 4 Love, Don't Give Up, Being With U Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 5.9 Review: I'm a sucker for synths, and I really enjoyed the light, ethereal sounds throughout this album. The songs did blend together and nothing was an outstanding banger, but there was little I could critique otherwise. Liked Song(s): Modern Kosmology, Slow Motion, Valley, Ravenspoint Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.05 Review: The B-52's is a chaotic and experimental band best taken in doses. Sitting through an album was more difficult than I anticipated. Liked Song(s): Planet Claire, Rock Lobster Disliked Song(s): There's a Moon in the Sky (Called the Moon), 6060-842 Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 5.35 Review: This album feels like it's the most "product of its time" that has ever been produced of any time. It gives the impression like it purposefully attempted to boil down the collective R&B sound of the 1980s in order to produce the "freshest" hip-hop beats. Did this need to happen? No. Is it good? Eh. It was a fun listen, and I liked Neneh's message. Overall, a decent album. Liked Song(s): Inna City Mamma, Heart, So Here I Come Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 9 Replayability: 8 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 8.1 Review: I've been a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd my whole life, and I'm happy to finally take the time to listen to one of their albums, which turned out to be a great listen with only a few lulls. Tuesday's Gone was fun to hear on a Wednesday morning. Simple Man brings a certain peace with it. And then you hit Free Bird. Free Bird alone bumps it from a 3 to a 4, maybe even to a 5 on further review. This track somehow manages to properly build tension and anticipation for the first 5 minutes before finally releasing a 4 minute jam session of pure, rock-and-roll head banging. What a way to end an album. Liked Song(s): Tuesday's Gone, Gimme Three Steps, Simple Man, Things Goin' On, Poison Whiskey, Free Bird Disliked Song(s): Mississippi Kid Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 6.75 Review: This was much better than our first Nick Cave album. There was good pacing between the high energy tracks like There She Goes, My Beautiful World and the slower ones like Breathless. So even though there's great range in this album, it still could've been slimmed down to make a better end product. Liked Song(s): Get Ready for Love, There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Nature Boy, Abattoir Blues, The Lyre of Orpheus, Breathless, O Children Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 6.5 Review: The Band lent themselves to a leisurely mix of soft and southern rock that's very easy on the ears. Liked Song(s): Across The Great Divide, Up On Cripple Creek, Rockin' Chair, Look Out Cleveland, King Harvest (Has Surely Come) Disliked Song(s): Jawbone Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 8 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 8 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 7.35 Review: I only knew of Dion from his doo-wop days with tracks like the Wanderer, but this album was a pleasant surprise. A generous collection of pop rock with sounds of soul that blend very nicely together. Liked Song(s): Born to Be with You, Make the Woman Love Me, Only You Know, In and out of the Shadows Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 4.85 Review: You can feel the disjointed tones between Big Boi and Andre 3000, making this album a 2-for-1 today. Speakerboxxx was much more consistent with that hard, classic rap sound but I liked the funk and psychedilica of The Love Below. Still, the replayability is significantly lower because of both the divide and 2 hr+ runtime. Liked Song(s): The Way You Move, Church, Bamboo (Interlude), The Love Below (Intro), Spread, Hey Ya!, Take Off Your Cool Disliked Song(s): Knowing, She Lives in My Lap, Roses, Pink & Blue, Love In War, Vibrate, A Life In The Day of Benjamin Andre (Incomplete) Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 7 Review: This is the first time I've listened to Beck. Even though I'm not in the head space for it now, I can tell this would be a golden playlist for some sad boy hours. Liked Song(s): The Golden Age, Guess I'm Doing Fine, Lost Cause, Little One Disliked Song(s): Paper Tiger, Sunday Sun Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 4.05 Review: Slow, melancholy, and mostly monotone. Another album for sad boy hours but certainly not as good as Beck's from yesterday, especially since all the songs sounded the same. Liked Song(s): Transylvania Blues, Tennessee, Death of an Heir of Sorrows Disliked Song(s): Time Will Break The World, Horseleg Swastikas Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 4.4 Review: After listening twice through, this album left me wanting. It has the makeup of an album that I should completely enjoy: a concept with an interesting subject matter, progressive rock operatics, a HOF band... but it just... didn't click for me. The Overture sets up the album very nicely, but it slowly devolved with each new track and the out-of-place interludes. Maybe I'm just having a bad morning and I couldn't wrap my head around this one as much as I wanted to. There's a chance I'll re-review this in the future. But for now, I'll sit in disappointment. Liked Song(s): Overture, 1921, Pinball Wizard, Go To The Mirror!, Tommy's Holiday Camp Disliked Song(s): Fiddle About Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.05 Review: I knew going into this that hip-hop and rap will be my lowest rated genres because they're not the music I typically listen to. That being said, this wasn't a bad album - it's just not for me. Liked Song(s): Shakey Dog, The Champ, R.A.G.U., Back Like That, Be Easy Disliked Song(s): Whip You With A Strap Recommend? Maybe

You could tell he came from the salt of the earth, and so did his melodies. They were simple, repetitive, and (at times) abrasive with the harmonica. Still a decent album. Liked Song(s): Blowin' in the Wind, Masters of War, Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, Talkin' World War III Blues, Corrina, Corrina Disliked Song(s): Girl from the North Country, Down the Highway Recommend? Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 5.8 Review: I've never heard Morissey before and maybe only a handful of tracks from the Smiths, but this was pretty good. Nothing stuck out as excellent, but nothing stuck out as bad. This album walks the line down the middle. Liked Song(s): Now My Heart Is Full, Hold on to Your Friends, The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get, Why Don't You Find out for Yourself, Speedway Disliked Song(s): Lifegaurd Sleeping, Girl Drowning Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.5 Review: I liked a significant portion of most songs, but the random, hellish static and breathy, whiny vocals were more of a detriment than anything else. It almost gave a unique sound, but it still wasn't pleasant to listen to. They should also stay in their lane because that cover of Just Like Heaven alone takes the whole album down a point. Liked Song(s): Kracked, Sludgefeast, Raisans, In a Jar, Lose Disliked Song(s): Tarpit, Poledo, Just Like Heaven Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 8 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 6 Artistic Merit: 7 Weighted Average: 7.4 Review: Even though this album contains absolute bangers and most of the songs held their own, it eventually grew into a marathon after the initial sprint. The two interludes from the narrator provided a nice reprieve, but it wasn't enough. That being said - it's my only note. Again, absolute bangers. Liked Song(s): Nitro (Youth Energy), Bad Habit, Genocide, Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, Smash Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 9 Replayability: 9 Cohesion: 10 Flow/Pacing: 8 Artistic Merit: 9 Weighted Average: 9.05 Review: This album is the best musical approximation to an acid trip that I've had the pleasure to listen to. The start and end of each track are merely suggestions as the overarching melody ebbs and flows like a river through my ears. The vocals are otherworldly, echo to infinity, and yet resonate deep within me. Some of the songs do overstay their welcome, but the bass carries them through the entire time. To put it simply: I really dig this psychedelic sound. I liked some of the funk too. Liked Song(s): Connected, Everything, Fade Away, Step It Up, Creation, The End Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 4.1 Review: The album starts off with an absolute banger and then quickly dissolves into background noise of forgettable melodies. I listened to this album 3 times and can't tell you what comes after The Blue Sky. This makes me question why it was put on this list at all. Is it only because of Take on Me? Liked Song(s): Take on Me, Train of Thought Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Maybe

Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 2 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 3.85 Review: This albums has a pungent raw/grungy energy that I just don't jive with. There's good tracks sprinkled throughout, but I wouldn't want to listen to the whole album again. Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 3 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 3.55 Review: This is the second album in a row that sounded like it wasn't mixed well with the purposefully discordant notes. Very out there - even for me. Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 8 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 7.4 Review: At first glance, this sounds like a light and fun concept album. But looking deeper into the themes and lyrics shows the dynamic range of the Kinks. This will enter my rotation of albums to relisten to. Enjoyment: 8 Replayability: 9 Cohesion: 8 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 8.15 Review: Dolly's imagery springing from her vocals in this album calls back to a classic genre of country rooted in folk. The melodies may be simple but they are nonetheless elegant and remain untouched from the influences of pop. Liked Song(s): Coat of Many Colors, Traveling Man, If I Lose My Mind, Early Morning Breeze, The Way I See You, Here I Am Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? Yes
Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 3 Artistic Merit: 3 Weighted Average: 3.75 Review: This album starts off strongly as decent background music, but Hero disrupted that flow. Also, what achievement did this background music accomplish? Was this the cutting edge back in 1975? To me, this is entirely forgettable. Liked Song(s): ISI, Seeland Disliked Song(s): Hero Recommend? No
Enjoyment: 10 Replayability: 9 Cohesion: 10 Flow/Pacing: 8 Artistic Merit: 9 Weighted Average: 9.4 Review: This album kicks off with an absolute banger and holds that high for the first half. It wanes a bit in the back half, but the tracks still their carry weight with a couple hidden gems. The electric guitar is... well... electrifying! And the drums keep a tight beat that make it easy to listen to again and again. Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 7 Review: This was a cool fusion of genres that gave me a renewed appreciation for those I know and a newfound respect for those I didn't. I would not have taken the time to listen to Calexico if it wasn't for this project, but I'm glad that I did. Enjoyment: 8 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 10 Flow/Pacing: 10 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 8.25 Review: I will have to relisten to this again because it's between 3-5. I'm still early into my metalhead journey, and Slipknot just tossed me into the death metal deep end. I know I like the drums and the electric guitar riffs, but the screaming is where I'm on the fence. Plus the most of the songs sound the same. Liked Song(s): .execute, Gematria (The Killing Name), Psychosocial, Dead Memories, Butcher's Hook, Wherein Lies Continue, Snuff, Vermilion, Pt. 2 - Bloodstone Mix, 'Til We Die Disliked Song(s): (None) Recommend? They have bottled comfort and leisure into an audio elixir that can relax a worried mind like no other. This will be the first album I put on when I'm cruising down PCH at sunset in my convertible coupe on my first night of retirement. But for now, I have to Do It Again and listen to this gem back through. Enjoyment: 6 Replayability: 7 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 4 Weighted Average: 6.05 Review: I feel neutral towards this one. It has elements of rock and pop mixed with the earlier sounds of punk, but there's no substance and nothing memorable. Most of the tracks are same-samey, but they don't overstay their welcome. Liked Song(s): Family Entertainment, Jump Boys, Here Comes the Summer, Get Over You, Listening In Disliked Song(s): Jimmy Jimmy, True Confessions Recommend? Maybe
Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 7 Flow/Pacing: 7 Artistic Merit: 6 Weighted Average: 6.6 Review: The Flamin Groovies took the definitive sound of the 50s' rockin' blues and masterfully transformed it into 70s' rock 'n' roll - maybe done better than the Rolling Stones. Their originals were fun listens and their covers were tasteful. I can foresee myself returning to this album frequently. The album captively held may attention the entire time (with the exception of parts of 1983) and I will be returning to this many-a-time. Liked Song(s): Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland), Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile, Little Miss Strange, Come On (Let the Good Times Roll), House Burning Down, All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) Disliked Song(s): 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) Recommend? Enjoyment: 4 Replayability: 5 Cohesion: 5 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.55 Review: I don't get Depeche Mode. They have a consistently unique sound, but more often than not, I find myself believing that their uniqueness is not necessarily beneficial. There's an overarching artificial/industrial that works some times, but not most times. I like some of their tracks, but a whole album was a slog to get through. Liked Song(s): Never Let Me Down Again, Strangelove, Nothing Disliked Song(s): I Want You Now Recommend? Maybe
