Good early 2000s rap album with lyrics themed around a dystopian future. The interludes sound a bit dated, the music and production are not.

Deltron 3030 is the debut album by the hip hop supergroup of the same name: rapper Del the Funky Homosapien, producer Dan the Automator, and DJ Kid Koala. It was released on May 23, 2000, by 75 Ark. The album was reissued on July 1, 2008, with 3 bonus remixes. The album's cover features a photograph of the Perisphere, a structure constructed for the 1939 New York World's Fair. It is a rap opera concept album set in a dystopian year 3030. The album's story casts Del in the role of Deltron Zero, a disillusioned mech soldier and interplanetary computer prodigy rebelling against a 31st-century New World Order. In a world where evil oligarchs suppress both human rights and hip-hop, Del fights rap battles against a series of foes, becoming Galactic Rhyme Federation Champion. Del's lyrics veer from serious social commentary to humor to epic sci-fi battles, while producer Dan the Automator creates an eerie and dense atmosphere.

Hell yeah! I was thinking about submitting this one, but I figured someone else would. I freaking love this album. Well executed concept album. Del, the rapper, is seriously underrated. I love several of his other tracks.
The year: 3030 The thing everyone wants to be: a DJ, an MC, a Producer This album: 5 stars
Really good choice π almost a 5 from me 4
Good pick ! One of my fav HH project.
General rule of thumb for concept albums seems to be that the stupider the concept, the better the music. This one is about saving the planet from evil overlords by having rap battles with them, which also sounds like the plot of a Regular Show episode. Sick. 4/5.
I was not looking forward to this but I loved it from the start! Great rap album, smart with lots of interesting references when I caught them. Would need to listen several more times to get more out of the lyrics but the beats were terrific!
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Things you can do, Madness, Positive contact
Feeling foolish given how much I've always enjoyed Del's verses on Clint Eastwood and other Gorillaz tracks and then just... never sought out his work independently. This is a great hip-hop concept LP that's aged pretty well, and seems almost prescient in places. Del has such an art for putting together flows that hit incredibly hard but read clearly with several interwoven layers of semantic cleverness. Couple that with some great production and interesting, melodic beats (not to mention the tasteful turntable action), and you've got an exemplar album that shows how powerful hip-hop can be. I was a little disappointed at how repetitive some of verses were, but outside of that minor quibble this was a great listen and an awesome add.
It's good to hear some rapping that actually has a message. This is the guy from Gorillaz, right?
A gloriously bizarre sci-fi hip-hop concept album where the year 3030 doesnβt feel too far from our own. Delβs sharp, funny, and imaginative rhymes meet Dan the Automatorβs inventive production: layering violins, trumpets, and cinematic sweeps over robot bleeps and beats, while Kid Koalaβs turntablism adds wild bursts of personality. The interludes slow the pacing a bit as they do with many albums, but the creativity, worldbuilding, and sheer fun make this a must-hear for fans of hip-hop, sci-fi, or bands like Gorillaz.
I'm gonna get the only negative thing out of the way first: it's too long. With some definite and notable exceptions, 45-50 minutes is the most an album should run. YMMV. Outside of that, this is pretty damn good, fun, and VERY weird - rhythmic hip-hop with a lot of old school type elements, non-annoying drum programming, and an underlying tongue-in-cheek weirdness that for the most part offsets the length of the album. I usually hate skits or other/similar spoken word transitions but I don't even mind the "interludes" as it adds to the theme. Always loved "Mista Dobalina" so it was nice to hear Del the Funky Homosapien again. I'll definitely put this on again - nice find. 7/10 4 stars.
Del The Funky Homosapien is the perfect rapper to do a rap themed album about the future. His verbose vernacular is always impressive. This album was pretty cool as the theme was present throughout. The production definitely provided a futuristic theme while still keeping it enjoyable. For what it is itβs quite good. There are definitely better rap albums but not many as unique as this. 6.5/10
This has a great sound and a creative concept. The lyrics get a little nonsensical and interludes are mostly a waste of time, but overall this was a really fun listen. I would not have minded seeing it on the original list. Fave Songs: Positive Contact, 3030, Mastermind, Time Keeps On Slipping, Things You Can Do, Madness
The name and cover art convey the content perfectly. Better than average but still not my thing. Happy to have listened though, worthy share.
4.5
From the future
I like all the people involved in this sort it's no surprise the musical product is good. I guess the story such as it is seems pretty flimsy, yeah the corpos rule this bad old world, fight the power. No revelatory insights into the class struggle here.
This is extremely cool on paper, hip hop Opera of future space dudes having rap battles to save the universe. Didnβt get me so much on execution and also a little looong
Sci-fi rap is a weird space. I think I like it? It's hard to say. Went a bit too long or it'd have been a 4, but at 75min that's a 3/5.
Soild rap album
Itβs Del the Funky Homosapien so Iβm pleased but itβs a concept album so Iβm irritated. I lean into hip-hop so Iβll go 3 stars but Iβd really like to give it 2.5. Feeling a bit mediocre.
Unfortunately I immediately disliked this album... Yes it's never been the type of music I necessarily appreciate but it was very boring to me and I can't really find anything... good. And much much too long.
