The New Tango
Astor PiazzollaLike being in an elevator for an hour.
Like being in an elevator for an hour.
I was expecting to skip this. It was better then i was expecting. I'm not into British hip hop, modern hip hop, people with little in their names. This wasn't bad. I'm not sure I'd listen again but i didn't hate it.
Judge me. I like folkie Taylor Swift. I have this on limited edition vinyl. Yeah i'm that person.
This has not aged well. The two singles are fine and I won't skip them if they came up in a mix. The rest of the album is weird reminder of what was Edgy in 1999.
Boring. At every point they chose safe and simple. This could have been made by any half talented singer in any era.
giving it a 3 just for the sample
It's fine. but i'm never going to listen to it again. Of the synth pop 80s, there's stuff i enjoy a lot more.
it's not bad or good. it's just background. Like what they playing in lobbies they don't want you to stand around in.
I was expecting to skip this. It was better then i was expecting. I'm not into British hip hop, modern hip hop, people with little in their names. This wasn't bad. I'm not sure I'd listen again but i didn't hate it.
Has generic Beatles sound. It's ok but i'm not sure why it made this big list.
Love this album. Already owned it.
I remembered really liking this album when it came out. There was a lot of talk of the "softer" Hole and about Billy Corgan writing on the album. Revisiting it now I'm less impressed by it. I'd say the singles hold up but the rest of the album is so so.
Not my thing.
It's hard for me on this one to separate the art from the artist. It just seems like a long album of self indulgent narcissistic ramblings.
An easy listen. Not sure if it will go into heavy rotation.
One of the best records I took from my parents. I have no idea how many times I listened to this growing up.
Very bland. I had problems getting used to the singers voice.
They seem like the generic version of Metallica. Album was ok but no real stand outs. It was like they were following a script on how to make Metal.
More Kinks sounding like the Beatles. Not bad
Wasn't super familiar with this album, but it's Tom Petty. It's great.
I really dug this album. a little slow in parts. The single A Forest is a favorite of mine.
Fuck Tom Waits!
More Kinks sounding like the Kinks sounding like the beatles.
Some intense prog noodling
Sounds like an album I should have already listened to. Very enjoyable
kind of bland. Huge start with Imagine and then lots of filler.
I was expecting more Big Beat era dance music but it was very chill. Maybe too chill for me.
interesting, less pop then the other albums of hers i've listened to
This is not the Nick Cave i was looking for. completely skippable
It's like a "best of" for all those 60's girl groups. The "Wall of Sound" over production got to be a little annoying by the end.
I already owned this one. Love this era of Costello. His first 3 albums are true classics.
I like the dance stuff more then the atmospheric stuff. Kind of a background record.
Wasn't sure what I was expecting post Velvet Underground. Just a straight forward rock record.
Own the album. Own the shirt. Totally my thing
This album surprised me. I really liked it and wish he had lived to make a second album.
This is like a 2 1/2. I'm putting at a 3 just for Dancing Queen. It was all too much, but in small doses very enjoyable.
meh.... Come on Eileen is great though
Just didn't connect with it. All filler, no killer.
This is one I had listened to before. It scratches that Tom Petty itch for me.
A classic. I don't know how many times I've had conversations about this album or the music video for Closer.
The first song is great. The rest is very forgettable.
This is a long record that has not aged well. Nothing stood out to me but the gay slurs.
An easy listen. I knew a lot of the song (or covers of the songs). It's not going into heavy rotation.
It was ok. Not my thing.
Own it. Listened to it a lot. Set the tone for the next decade in a lot of ways. For better or worse the 2000s rock/rap thing won't have happened with out this record.
This is fine. It was fine when I listened to it in 1994. Never understood the massive hype around this band.
Great, but not as great as some of their later albums.
All speed. All energy. A great way to start the day.
Good energy. Not sure if i'd listen to it again. Between a 3 and a 4 for me.
I knew Fast Car and liked it. She's got a good voice and good lyrics, but this is a heavy record for a cold Friday. Not sure how to place it.
This is obviously not meant for me, but Hounds of Love and Running up that Hill are great songs. The rest of the album is good if a little too theatrical.
Been listening to this since high school. Excellent.
I could have died without listening to this.
a by the numbers rock album. Fine but not something i'd just put on
There's so much baggage that comes with MJ now. These are catchy pop songs but all i can think about is what he became.
I guess i've mellowed to Bob Dylan. Was much better then i was expecting.
Not really my thing. After i got through the songs I knew, it was a real slog.
Guitar 5, Lyrics 2.
Not my preferred flavor of synth-pop, but not bad.
It's fine. A little slow for me. I've never been an Elvis person.
meh. It's a so-so record from the grunge band that never really broke. I was really surprised at how well reviewed this was at the time.
Already had this album. It's great. It's a great band
This was my introduction to OutKast. I listened to this a lot in college, but i must have made a cd without the skits/interludes. Those are awful. The rest of the album is great.
This was a bit hole for me. Fits right in with all the Carly Simon and Carol King records my parents would play. Really liked it.
It's hard to get past all the current Eric Clapton baggage. Or the baggage of every ex-hippie/hippie wannabe talking to me incessantly about this band for the last 20 years. The best i can say at this point, this is a pretty standard rock album. The songs you recognize are as good as you remember them being.
Solid. Didn't know much about this band besides the jokes about the second album.
I only new the singles going in. Really holds ups. Great guitar sound.
Over the top goth/synth. Big fan of the single "This Corrosion". Enjoyed the listen.
Jazz.... Still not a fan. This album was a grind to get through
I fell down a PFunk rabbit hole a few years ago. It's a fun time. It's also need hearing where a lot of the Dr Dre/Snoop samples come from.
Not a big Who fan. This album didn't change my mind. It was fine. no real stand outs.
It was fine. I didn't connect with it. Seemed long.
The singles are still as undeniable as they were in the 80s. The rest of the album doesn't hold up as well.
An easy listen. No real stand outs besides Sultans of Swing.
Better then i had expected. Scratched a 90's nostalgia itch. It sounds like what the cool kids were listening to.
I remember hearing Sour Times for the first time. Nothing sounded like this then. Nothing sounds like it now. I've never listened to this whole album and I was missing out. btw Wandering Star is amazing, had to listen to it twice in a row.
I think this is the first Jazz album with songs i recognized. Still not a jazz fan but this might be the best Jazz album so far.
I wasn't expecting much. I got what i expected.
I only knew pyschocandy. This is a lot more mellow. Still a a good listen.
Judge me. I like folkie Taylor Swift. I have this on limited edition vinyl. Yeah i'm that person.
After the nostalgia wore off, it got repetitive. The singles still hold up and maybe the rest would be good in small doses.
This has one of my favorite REM songs on it. It's a great album but a little to melancholy for an everyday listen for me.
I liked this. True post punk where they could experiment with the formula.
This is a weird one for me. The production reminded me of De La Soul. None of the songs really stood out but it wasn't bad. Latifah charisma reminds you why she became an actress. Probably won't listen again.
I enjoyed it. Sounds like something i would have listened to in 2008.
Maybe a little calmer then their early stuff. Still a great listen.
Not my thing. I like Killer Queen but the rest felt like filler.
I would rather listen to a jazz album.
I bounced off this pretty hard. Not sure what this was about or who it was for.
Classic. Reminds me of summer barbecues.
Not sure what i just listened too.... Is this rock jazz? Not awful but not my thing.
I listened to this a lot when it came out. It holds up pretty well. There are still a few songs I always skip.
Didn't love it or hate it. Wouldn't listen again.
He's such a weird person in music. I didn't dislike this as much as I wanted to. There's no How Soon is Now or There is a Light, but it's completely listenable.
Don't think i've listened to this since the 90s. Holds up. Great opening of This is a Call and I'll Stick Around.
Between a 3 and a 4 for me. Some of the best of Prog Rock and some of it's more annoying tendencies as well. But I'd listen to it again before that last Neil Young album.
As good as I remembered. I love that big sound. A classic.
So boring. Couldn't even zone out to it because she hits those weird yodeling notes.
I only knew them from the two singles that were everywhere. This was a good listen. Some quality 90s pop/rock.
I liked it better then Definitely Maybe. Still not an Oasis fan.
I liked hearing those songs from Hackers. It just got repetitive.
Didn't connect to this at all. Seemed like all filler.
It was ok. Very 60s. Won't listen again.
I actively disliked this album. Hippies pretending to be cowboys is my new least favorite genre.
Great album. Have it on vinyl. Have listened to it a bunch.
This hit a good spot for me. I really like the piano and harmonies. Also recognized a few of the songs.
Interesting. Not my preferred flavor of 80s synth music.
It was nice to have on as background noise. Nothing really notable about it, but Dead Bodies. If the rest of the album had that energy, it would require another listen.
I listened to this a few times over the years. Never saw the movie. Pusherman, Freddie's Dead, and Superfly are really great songs. A quality listen.
Abba is better in small doses.
It's a good album. It just doesn't live up to the promise of Seven Nation Army.
This has not aged well. The two singles are fine and I won't skip them if they came up in a mix. The rest of the album is weird reminder of what was Edgy in 1999.
Better then i expected. Still not a U2 person, but it was ok.
This is their weirdest album. There's a lot that I like on it and there's a lot that i don't like. I always skip "The Gift" but the title track and sister ray are great.
i had never hear of this band. It was OK. I don't think I'd listen to it again.
I had heard the title track several times and liked it. Didn't realize the whole album was just the same organ sound over and over again.
Good. I don't know if it's as good as Pink Moon.
It was ok. Not my preferred dance music. Maybe if i heard it out instead of in my office.
Didn't really connect with it. Wasn't a Pink Floyd person.
Bowie's Funk/Soul record. I love the singles. A pretty good listen all the way through. Not my favorite Bowie record.
I have no idea how to rate a Beatles album. It's like rating oxygen. Yes this is essential. Do you like music? Then yes, you like this album.
I wanted to turn this off when i started listening. At no point did that change for me.
I just love her voice. Not my favorite of hers, but still very enjoyable.
I was forced to listen to a lot of Sinatra in high school. I still hate Sinatra.
Not bad. Not really my thing.
I don't know much about reggae. I liked this less then Bob Marley but it was fine.
This has all the things I like and dislike about Pink Floyd. Some of those songs just ring out as anthems but they're buried by baroque navel gazing. 4 because i liked it more then i disliked it.
Loud noisy fun. Always worth a revisit.
Unlistenable. Fuck Tom Waits!
I was more familiar with Power, Corruption & Lies. This is a great followup. Moody synths, sort of dancey, not quite as hooky as Blue Monday. Just a great Friday listen.
It was fine. not something i'd listen to again.
That's some real twangy country. Too slow pace for me and in a style I couldn't connect with.
Weird early German techno. Oddly fascinating. I listened to Trans-Europe Express and Computer Love after this. It was good rabbit hole to fall into.
I only knew them from the song in the Apple commercial. I was expecting something more dance/pop. This was ok but not really my thing.
I liked it better when i first listened to it. The hype when this album came out, made it sound like Kendrick was the new JayZ. I guess my exceptions tainted that listen through. I'm still not sure if I understand the hype. When he dabbles in jazz he completely loses me. I guess I'm stuck on late 90s early 2000s rap singles.
I know how important this band was. I know how important this record was. I've just never been a big Sonic Youth fan. That being said I liked this record more on this listen then I did 10 years ago. I'm torn on how to rate it.
Really lost me with those last 3 or 4 instrumentals. The single is great and the first half the album is good.
Some interesting parts, some boring parts. It was fine.
I was familiar with a lot of these songs going in. A good listen.
This is hard to rate. "Gimme Shelter" and "Get What you Want" are so a part of my life I don't even know when i first heard them. They're in movies, tv, and on the radio. The rest of the album was fine but with out those two songs, I don't think this album would be on the list.
I love this band and I love this album.
Not really my thing. This was a fine R&B record.
I always thought the Eagles were kind of bland. Some dinosaur band grown ups would babble to me about when I was in High School. This album did nothing to change my mind. I guess Witchy Woman is ok. 2 Stars for that.
Maybe it's just nostalgia but this really worked for me. I forgot how many singles this album had and how much radio airplay it got. I won't say I'm an Alanis fan but it's hard not to give something 5 stars that I had so much fun listening to.
Layers on Layers of samples. All pre-court case where it didn't bankrupt them to do so. A big change from the Licensed to Ill and not as approachable on the first listen. It's definitely an album I've enjoyed more on each listen. BTW if you are interested in the Beastie Boys at all, their book is great and the audio book version is even better.
I liked the energy. I liked the noisy rock that would become punk. Maybe too much noise and energy for a sleepy Monday morning.
Just stop listening after the first song. It doesn't get better and the rest of the album will make you rethink that first song was good. This was a grind to get through.
It's what i expected. Nothing to write home about, but nothing objectionable.
I honestly don't know if i just listened to the same song on repeat for an hour. There was so little difference between the songs. Skip this album.
This held up much better then Celebrity Skin. I guess I prefer songs ghost written by Cobain. Violet still kicks pretty hard.
Son of a Preacher Man is great and it's a real standout on this album. The rest is fine but not worth a re-listen.
Seemed more focused then the other Prodigy album. I knew more of the songs. This must have come out during the techno boom of the late 90s. It seemed really familiar... in a good way.
I found out about Pulp several years after Brit Pop was over. I really like this album. Common People is an awesome song.
Not as experimental or weird as some of their albums and that makes it more approachable. Also you don't need 4 cd players to listen to it. A nice listen on a rainy morning.
Another jazz record. Got to the end of it so 2 stars.
It was fine. I really liked Love Fool when it came out. I think I saw them open for Beck around this time.
A little boring. I had a hard time getting used to her voice.
I won't turn it off if it came on the radio.
It has a bit of everything. I only knew Tight Rope going in and i was expecting more of a pop/r&b album. This is a lot more then that, i'm not even sure how to define it. Pretty great, i'd listen again.
There are some great songs. There are some good songs. and there is a good chunk of filler. This album was everywhere when i was in high school so it hits that nostalgia button for me. Zero still hits pretty hard. While I'm not sure if this needed to be 2 hours long, it's still worth a listen.
She has a great voice. I just don't think i'd listen to this again.
It was fine. Nothing stood out.
I wanted to like this more then I did. It was ok.
I though this group was bullshit in 1999 and listening to a full album has not changed my mind. While I could hear an argument that some nu-metal was good or interesting, this watered down wannabe boy band is just crap.
it's good background. can't say much more about it.
Better then i expected.
reminded me of Nick Drake. Fit my mood when i was listening to it.
Hard to rate for me. I guess i disliked more of it then i liked.
Constant Cravings stands out in this otherwise boring album.
Boring. At every point they chose safe and simple. This could have been made by any half talented singer in any era.
The singles are still as undeniable as they were in the 80s. The rest of the album doesn't hold up as well.
Never heard of this band but enjoyed the listen. If i had to compare them to someone, they're like a more straight forward Tame Impala
Slow. Maybe I'm too young for the references. The legend of this album far over shadows it's content.
I've never listened to this album but I've heard every song on classic rock radio. I don't know if this is good but it's sunday bbq music at its best.
Better then i expected. Not really my thing. I always want a band with a full horn section to do more.
Might be the best Bowie I've listened to so far.
Like being in an elevator for an hour.
I've been listening to this since high school. I love the energy and chaos of this record. I'm not sure if this is the best JSBX record but it's the one I listen to the most. Also the video for Wail is still a good time.
I got through it.
Ok for a jazz record.
Fine. Not by preferred brand of funk.
I dug this album. It's weird listening to mid 2000s music and hearing just how many influences they pulled from. Dancing Choose was the stand out track for me.
The first 4 Devo records are all great. This is my favorite. There is a nice blend of instruments and synths before they really settled on their sound.
I liked it. I'm glad it had vocals. The female singer added to the creepy/moody feel of the album. I'm not sure if this would be an everyday listen for me but i won't mind revisiting it.
A strong start but a slow finish. I miss the energy and some of the rawness of their first two albums.
Enjoyed listening to it all the way through.
Immigrant Song and Tangerine are great. The rest of the album is good but not my favorite Zeppelin.
Didn't know Rollin Stone was 12 minutes and I was surprised by the chorus to Run Charlie. Overall a good listen.
Mostly it was just background music. It was a really long record and I won't be revisiting it. Lots and lots of the Amen Break though.
I love this album. I listened to it a lot when it came out.
I had this on tape in my first car. I have no idea how many times I listened to this on road trips or on the way to college. This is the first unplugged I remember being more then the some of its parts. More than an excuse for some famous band to play a greatest hits show. I loved all the weird covers and deep cuts they chose to play instead. This is a great album.
Better then i was expecting. Much more a straight forward indie rock record then what Bjork is known for. Still her voice started to grate on me by the end.
The two covers were kind of interesting. Not really my thing. Really lost me in the middle.
It wasn't bad but I'm never going to listen to it again. It wasn't for me.
Some of the songs that were more folk were ok. The whole record seemed safe, overproduced, and boring.
I really liked the drums. Wasn't awful.
It was fine.
The Who will always be the bargain basement version of better bands. The only song that stuck out for me was Pinball Wizard. I guess if you get tired of the Beatles, the Stones, and Zeppelin there's always the Who.
The music never transcended the language barrier for me.
Some real highs and lows. Sweet Child, Welcome to the Jungle, and Paradise City still hold up. the rest of this album feels like filler. Maybe in 87 it didn't sound like bloated garbage.
Better then i had expected. Between a 3 and a 4 for me.
Liked it better the last ELP I listened to. Seemed more focused.
Didn't connect to it at all. It was just background noise to me.
I liked this when it came out but it's been a while since i listened to it. Held up really well.
It's interesting. The song with Kylie Minogue is great. Not sure how to rate it.
kind of bland and overstays it's welcome.
Another jazz album.... seemed to be little difference between tracks.
I've just never been a big Sonic Youth fan. That being said I liked this record more on this listen then I did 10 years ago. A touch more mellow then Daydream.
This is some dentist office music. lifeless.
Very enjoyable. Like a missing Velvet Underground album.
Dated pop trash. Way past its expiration date or relevance
Ok. Slow and a little lifeless.
An ok dance album. I wasn't expecting a Selector sample. Red Alert held up pretty well.
I liked the feeling of melancholy it gave and the word play. I know Morrissey became a caricature and then a shitshow but i'd listen to this again.
Ok. Wasn't a big difference between songs.
Not a U2 fan. This was better then I expected. I'm not going to re-listen but I'm glad I listened to it.
Fine 70s rock. Didn't really stand out to me but wasn't bad.
This was dope. Quality garage rock. A harbinger of what was to come.
It was fine. I got really bored during the second half.
I wouldn't be annoyed if this was playing in a Starbucks.
A good listen all the way through. "It's Like That" is one of my favorites.
This is a great album. I've listened to it lot over the years. Good energy and Rollins at his best. It also has a bit of levity that the bands later records lacked.
Both Joy Division albums are amazing. This one is a little slower and darker then the first one but still excellent.
Yeah, the Beatles are great.
Some really good songs on this. Public Enemy political stance made them seem punk to me. Lots of energy on this record. I'd say the skits don't hold up but that's my complaint about most hip hop albums.
Not sure what i was expecting. Good listen all the way through.
Fine. I think Led Zeppelin did a better version of what he was trying to do.
A good bit of stadium rock. Knew a lot of these from the classic rock stations. Pretty good all the way through.
Not sure if I had heard this before. I'm a big Wilco fan and this is a good Wilco album.
I'd put this right behind Live at Folsom. It's pure Johnny Cash. The stage banter is almost better then the songs.
I'm just not a fan of the genre. She might be the best at it but all I hear is dentist office music.
Solid start. Recognized more songs on this then I expected to. Good listen all the way through. Less jazzy then some of the other Steely Dan records I've listened to.
This is a good album with an amazing single. Psycho killer isn't just my favorite Talking Heads song, it's one of my favorite songs ever.
Come Together might be my favorite beatles song. Another excellent Beatles album
Breaking the Law was ok.
Kinda boring.
A strong start that just wanders. Not bad but not something i'd listen to as a whole album again.
This is a weird listen in light of his recent comments. It's hard for me to separate the art from the artist. I'm just annoyed by West boasting for 60 minutes.
This was a hard one for me. When it's working, it's amazing. But I get so bored during the ballads.
Good not great. Between a 3 and a 4
did nothing for me. not even good background noise.
Glad i listened to it. Probably won't listen to it again.
A little bit of everything on this record including a Beatles cover. It didn't live up to the promise of the main single but wasn't a bad listen.
This is one of my favorite albums.
I didn't connect with it. It was slow. Compared to his other stuff it seemed sterile.
I love this album.
This was awful. The worst version of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" I've heard.
Been a fan of Deceptacon for awhile, not sure if i had listened to the whole album before. Pretty great.
Lot of good stuff on this album which makes it easy to ignore the filler. I'm sure this hit deeper in the 80's right after Bon Scott's death.
Really strong start. War Pig, Paranoid, Iron Man are all great. Got a little bored by the end. between a 3 and 4 for me.
I'd never just put this one but it wasn't bad.
Fuck Tom Waits!
Just bored by it.
It's fine. I never got what the big deal was.
It was fine. Generic 60s
This was interesting for a song or two. Then it went on for 70 minutes.
I dug this. Seemed to fit my mood. I thought Extended Souvenir was a standout track.
I think this has most of the Pogues songs i know on it. A really good time.
I lost whatever interest I had in this album very quickly.
Good but a little slow for me. Didn't capture my attention like Super Fly.
I really didn't like it. There were a few tracks that felt like actual songs, but even those didn't hold my attention.
Wasn't what i was expecting.
Interesting. they tried a lot of different ideas with this.
kinda mixed on it. Took me awhile to get used to his voice.
Very 50s. I guess if i had a love of old westerns this could have worked.
It was nice to have on in the background. probably won't listen to it again.
It was fine. Nothing really stood out for me.
Enjoyable. A quality listen.
Maybe because i lived through the swing revival. Thought this was pretty good.
Wasn't bad to have on in the background. Can't say any of it really stuck out to me.
Seems like an album i should have already listened to. With a band coming from the ashes of another, it's hard not to compare. Definitely more experimental then the Minutemen. Not sure if I'd listen to this over Double Nickels but a good listen regardless.
Generic. It dragged by the end.
Completely unexpected.
Fine. After the nostalgia wore off i got a little bored.
While Tom Sawyer is great (the reason this isn't a 1 star), the rest of the album shows all of the excesses of Rush. 11 minutes songs that never get to the point. Meaningless lyrics that flow into meaningless instrumentals.
It was ok. I had a hard time with his voice. I don't know why it reminded me of radiohead.
I was expecting a little bit of everything and I wasn't wrong. For as experimental as it was, there were still some highlights. Not sure how to rate an album like this.
This wasn't the Queen i was expecting. Sounds more like a standard rock band then what I have come to expect from Queen.
The Talking Heads are great. This is a great album.
Great harmonies. I heard this and Deja Vu a lot in high school.
Garbage. If you put the worst things of the late 90s in a blender, this is what you would get.
A solid listen till about track 8 when the more experimental and ambient stuff kicks in.
I didn't listen to a lot of Beck post Odelay. This is fine but it just reminds me of when he made better stuff.
She has a great voice. It just wasn't my thing. I was hoping for it to pick up even for one track.
The singles off this album are great. Would work on any mix from this era. The rest of the record is fine. Score is mostly based on the singles.
Not sure if I ever really listened to this band. Not bad
Better then i had expected. Solid first track.
Great. Feels like i should have already listened to it. 1 2 X U is the stand out track for me.
I always get sad listening to her now. This was a monster of a record and it was everywhere at the time. There should have so much more to come.
Great synth album.
It's like watching a parody that takes itself too seriously. Is the joke that Kiss doesn't know they are a joke band?
When you go too far Prog do you just become Classical?
I was a big fan of this in high school. This as aged incredibly well. Still an amazing record.
When I listened to this in the 90s, I don't remember liking it. Just thinking the singles good. I liked it a lot more on this listen. Too bad they couldn't figure out the third LP.
There's a lot of good stuff on this record. My only complaint is it's long. They really wanted to fill 4 sides and I think that hurts the record.
This was a very long jazz album. Wasn't as bad as some of the jazz albums i've had to listen to.
I was doing fine till I hit the last track. Which is a 3 minute song stretched out to 19 minutes.
This should only be for completists or hardcore fans. These versions do nothing to make the songs better. This is a very long record without much of a purpose.
I'm a huge fan of the song Roadrunner. There's some other good stuff on here but overall the record is pretty mixed. "I'm straight" is a real low point. I'll probably go 4 stars just on the power of Roadrunner.
Maybe if i had heard this with fresh ears in 1987. The hair metal of the 80s were a joke and an example of lameness when I started listening to music. Nothing about listening to this album has changed my mind.
Not sure what i was expecting. Seems like a more personal record. I liked it but I can't point to a best track.
Not a bad listen. Seemed like a pretty standard record for its time.
A quality Cure record. I was already a Cure fan. I don't think this would be the record I would use to change peoples minds about the Cure.
I liked it better then Kid A. Thom Yorke's voice is still weird.
Not my thing. Thought "I Hear You Knockin'" was the best of it.
Didn't like it. Maybe it was too slow. Maybe it was the blue-eyed soul. Maybe i heard it too many times in dentist offices. It just isn't my thing.
D.A.N.C.E. is great. I'm always happy when it comes up randomly on a playlist. The rest of the album is enjoyable and I had a fun listen this morning with it.
Just great top to bottom. Almost every song could have been a single.
I didn't mind it. Maybe it would have been different in 72 when Cooper was more of an oddity and less of an old man I see talking about golf.
It was fine. It just never became great. I didn't mind it but i won't put it on again.
There are some really interesting post punk records. this isn't one of them. It was fine.
A really strong start but it overstays its welcome. Some where around track 5 I just got bored with it.
Song 2 is great even if it was overplayed for a while. The rest of this album works for me. I thought it was funny reading the wiki that it was influenced by Pavement.
Starts really strong. Gets a little jam bandy at the end. Not a bad listen.
Some really good songs on this one. A bit more scattered then some of their later albums. Still has that great big sound.
Not much of a Jazz person but this really kept my interest. The story behind the recording is very interesting as well. I might even listen to this again.
Dreamy and spacey. Not bad but i don't think i'd listen to it again.
This is the third Cure album we're doing. As good as the others. I don't think i knew any of these songs going in.
Heart of Gold is an amazing song. Some weird sonic shifts on this album. Enjoyed it overall.
Meh. I didn't turn it off but I really didn't like it.
Seemed like the filler left over from better Trip Hop albums. I keep waiting for it to kick in but it never delivered.
I listened to this a lot when it came out. It didn't sound like anything i was listening to at the time. I loved it then and i love it now.
Paul Simon was a stable of my house growing up. It's a good album and it reminds me of my dad.
Better then i had expected. Maybe not the best version of some of these songs. Taken as a whole, pretty enjoyable.
Nothing really stood out. I just got bored with it. Pretty low energy for dance music.
All the noisy and weird punk you could want. I feel bad for the kids in the 90s that bought these albums thinking all the songs would sound like Pepper.
I remember not liking this when it came out. I guess i was expecting something like "Down by the Water". Listening to it now, I really like the mellow folk rock. I'll probably listen to this again.
This is a great album. When the Talking Heads are on they are unstoppable.
This is probably the best version of this type of music. The guitar and drum work is excellent. But it's just not my thing.
Reminded me of Bowie. A solid listen all the way through.
Bland. Seemed to steal heavily from Bob Dylan. Will not revisit.
A couple of novelty hits. Stealing and Stop are fine if they come up in a playlist. Spent the rest of the album wanting to skip every track.
I liked this better then some of his others. Subterranean Homesick Blues is just great and video for it is iconic.
By itself its a good album. Looking at the progression from this to Abbey Road or Sgt Pepper, its even more amazing. It's crazy how much a band could influence and change in just 7 years.
I was not as familiar with this one as i was with their self titled album. Good, you can hear them starting to branch out from pure hardcore. Worth another listen.
Tedious garbage. It sounds like it was made my a committee of people who had never listened to hip hop or R&B.
This really surprised me. Enjoyed it the whole way through without understanding a word of it.
Bland. At it's best, it reminds me of better bands.
I'm a big fan of this band. I like all their records. This might be their best.
This is a one hit wonder band I haven't thought about since the 90's. The one hit still holds up as a novelty. The rest of the album is a weird mix of rock, hip hop, and dated references.
Shirley Manson is just cool. Queer is still as good as when I first heard it. Some filler I didn't care for but still a record I enjoyed listening to.
I listened to this on so many family road trips that it's basically a time machine to my childhood. Good songs and good memories here.
Holds up well. Some really good tracks on this. Nirvana was such a big part of my teen years that it's hard to rate this album.
Pretty listenable. Not something i'd put on again but was good while it was on.
Just boring. Nothing was overly terrible but there's not much else to say about it.
Didn't really connect with it. Seemed like a dollar store version of Led Zeppelin. Not awful, just not great.
I never owned this album and knew every song. This was one of the biggest bands when I was in high school. Even flow and Alive are still stand out songs.
The organ sound is excellent through out. Break On Through and Light my Fire still hold up. I guess if you can get past the Jim Morrison baggage and parodies the rest of the album works.
I guess someone had to write "The Girl from Ipanema". This record did nothing for me. The horn sounded weird through out.
Outstanding. I've listened to this album alot and it still sounds like it came from nowhere.
Fine. Sounds of the time.
The more Queen albums I listen to, the more I realize all you need is the greatest hits. Bohemian Rhapsody overshadows the rest of the album. I just spent the whole album waiting for it to get good.
There are some songs i really like on this but it doesn't hold together well as an album. Not sure who thought putting Mother and Every Breath on the same album was a good idea.
More straight forward then some of the later albums we've listened to. It's just not my thing. Fake plastic trees bugs me as much as when i first heard it. Thom Yorke's voice is still weird.
I still like the title song. The rest of the album shows it age. Fine but not something i'm going to revisit.
A little bit of everything. I want to rate it higher and then I think about the moonbeam song.
I really like Pavement. This album isn't as quirky or as smoothed out as some of there other albums. I enjoy raw and slightly more punk sound.
Much better then i was expecting. A solid groove and a great funky sound.
Middle of the road at best. Chris Martin voice has always been to whiny for me.
This is as good as any of the other Steely Dan records we've listened to. I was surprised again by how many songs i recognized.
Nothing really stood out on this album for me. If i was going to put on a Smiths record, it would be the Queen is Dead over this one.
I'm not sure how the CBGB scene reacted to Blondie putting out a dance track. It must have been an interesting topic at the time. This album worked for me. The first 3 or 4 tracks were solid and the rest of the album kept me interested. Heart of Glass is a standout on its own. Even if I'm not sure how it came from this band.
The hyper-violence and misogyny did not age well. This is a very strange record to listen to as an adult. Some of the production is interesting.
Hotel and Fastlane were probably good the first few hundred times I heard them. The rest of the album just felt washed out. Like a copy of a copy of a copy.
More jazz then i was expecting. Ok to have on in the background.
This is horrible. This is so much worse then anything i expected.
Some of the singles hold up. It just felt a little soulless.
I've listened to the album alot since it came out. It's pretty amazing.
More Prog then i normally listen to. Not bad though. Maybe a little long in parts.
I liked it better then Bitch's brew. Better then most of the jazz albums we've listened to.
Sounded like something I should have already listened to. Quality listen.
Didn't mind it. Was really enjoying it till the last track which wandered aimlessly for 8 minutes. Between a 3 and a 4.
I liked it better then Ritual de lo Habitual. Jane Says was overplayed to the point of being annoying. Ok overall but not something i'd return to.
I like Blue a bit more. This was good but not as seamless as Blue.
I really like "The Killing Moon". It's a good album but not as good as that single.
Good in the way that all Led Zeppelin albums are good.
Good production. The combination of Snoop and Dre worked better for me then the NWA album.
It was better then i expected.
I guess i was expecting something like "Revolution Will Not Be Televised" and got a low-key soul/jazz record. Not really my thing.
Reminded me of other bands i listened to in this era. Solid but nothing really stood out. Probably between a 3 and a 4.
Seemed like good 80s indie pop. Was a good listen for me.
Still as good as the first time I listened to it. Say Yes is so good and so clever.
Just a good listen.
Seems like they were a lot bigger in Britain then here. Kind of a Strokes or White Stripes sound. I'd listen again. "Look Good on the Dancefloor" is pretty catchy.
Lack luster. I was bored by it.
It sounds like if SNL was doing a parody about german music
I'm surprised my folks didn't play this in between Simon and Garfunkel records. I'd listen to this again. I really liked Sandy Denny voice.
Fine. Lasted longer then my interest in it.
Erykah Badu is a taste i never acquired and this is a long album.
Not my genre and some of the lyrics have not aged well. Still, didn't mind having it on.
A good listen. I liked some of the "unconventional percussion". The rougher sounding production fit her lyrics and voice better then some of the smoothed out 90s singles. I'm not sure if this was worth one of the rare pitchfork 10 out of 10s, but I'd listen to it again.
Not sure if anything stood out to me, but as a whole I enjoyed it more then Paranoid.
Dre and Snoop at the top of their game. I mean skip all the skits and just enjoy the ride.
From album cover to the last song, this is a weird record. Didn't mind it but i'm not listening to it again.
Feels like i'm missing something. Sort of a less interesting version of the Cure.
I liked this better then Vauxhall. Seemed more "rock" then the Smiths stuff. I'd listen to this again.
I could never get past the vocals.
The songs i connected with I really liked. The ones that were more minimal weren't as interesting for me. This is a hard one to rate for me.
My thing with Motorhead is that every song sounds like Ace of Spades... This album is filled with songs that sound like the live version of Ace of Spades...
I'd listen to this again. Noize and Arizona were the stand outs for me. Some of the commentary seems a little dated and on the more depressing side is how relative some of the commentary still is.
I'm a big fan of this band. Maybe not my favorite record of theirs but I still happy put it on. Tonite and Call the Police are the stand outs for me.
I didn't turn it off but I wanted to skip most of the songs. Maybe an extra star for Elevation.
I guess the singles were ok for a bit of nostalgia. But this record just felt disposable. After the summer these songs were out, i didn't think about them at all. Nothing on the rest of the record stood out and was either boring or skipable.
Some quality early rockabilly. Will listen again.
Meh. I was bored by the whole shock show in high school. It hasn't aged well. There are some interesting Industrial records from this era but this isn't one of them.
Strong start, kind of wanders at the end. I'd listen to it again.
I'd listen to songs off this again but probably not the whole album.
Really liked it. the title track is a classic.
Between a 3 and a 4.
Sparse. I didn't skip any tracks but i'm never going to listen to this again.
Took a while for me to get into this record. I don't know if I would have liked it more in English.
It's hard for me not to compare this to the Pixies. I liked it but i'd still listen put on a Pixies record before this.
Great from start to finish. Watch the video for the singles off this album, it's worth it.
Better then I had expected. Worth another listen.
I really wanted to like this album. For as much as I've listened to and like Paul Simon, this album was really a dud. Completely forgettable.
Shout and Rule the World are excellent singles. The rest of the album was so so for me.
I love this album. Just a classic.
Some top of their game Disco production on this record. I liked the more up tempo tracks.
I've listened to this so many times since I found it in high school. Holiday and California are still amazing songs.
This is a great record. It captures the energy of the early Husker Du records and blends them with the 90s sound. Its surprising to see how well this works compared to the last Husker Du record.
This didn't work for me.
Between a 3 and a 4. Couple of the songs stayed with me so maybe more of a 4.
Man i love "Season of the Witch". The rest of the album was fine.
Pretty standard synth-pop. The single still holds up.
lo fi beats to study to? Was fine to have on in the background.
I didn't know as many songs off this as Harvest. Overall I really liked it.
I've listened to this a lot since it came out. I own it on multiple formats. I've watched the documentary about the making of the album. This is a classic and if i could give it 6 stars I would.
About the same as the other album we listened to from them. I did like the few songs that were more rock.
I think I would need a better background in Hip Hop to really enjoy this. I wish the skits were separate from the songs so i could skip them. Seemed really long.
Not what I was expecting. Pretty good, i'm just not sure if i'd listen to it again.
This did have a song i recognized and was far more approachable then the other Bjork albums we've listened to. I'm just done with Bjork at this point.
A straight forward 70s punk album. Enjoyable. Five stars because it was refreshing after the last album i listened to.
2 incredibly great songs on a record I just didn't like. Not sure how to rate this.
I just like this band. This (like most of their records) is nice to put on and chill to.
I guess they got there first but it really reminds me of Led Zeppelin. Not sure if i'd listen to this again.
When we go back to classic country, all i can hear are the parody songs mocking the genre. I guess this is a good example of this sound, but i just didn't like it.
It was fine. Nothing really stuck out to me and I won't re-listen.
I don't think i have the technical understanding to enjoy this album. It was fine but I know i'm missing something.
I've listened to Genius of Love a lot. The rest of the album was a pleasant surprise. Would listen again. The best of the Talking Heads spin offs?
Some real heavy nostalgia with this record. I listened to it a lot when it came out and it was pretty inescapable that year. While not being a huge Green Day fan anymore, I still really enjoy this record.
I've definitely revisited the singles off this since it came out. Some of the album cuts show their age, but i'd probably re-listen to most of the singles off of this.
Straight forward 70s punk with a couple of covers. Very enjoyable.
Not sure which era of Bowie this is, but the record sounded like Rock all the way through. Not as many stand-out songs as some of the Bowie record but also not as much of the random experimental tracks. I'd listen again.
Between a 3 and a 4. I've been enjoying the Sonic Youth records more then I was expecting.
It's weird to listen to a record that makes the Stooges sound focused and polished. I like what this record influenced more then this record. It was fine.
A good listen. Maybe not as defining as Loveless but it's still in my re-listen list.
This guy shouldn't be rapping. Generic rave music with annoying vocals.
A bit slower then what i remembered. Still good memories of listening to this record.
Generic noise.
A good throw back to 70s southern rock. Enjoyable, but they sure do like talking about Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I enjoyed having this on. Fell into a sweet spot for this type of music for me. Between a 4 and a 5
He was definitely trying for something. No idea what.
Yeah, the Beatles are great.
Really mixed on this album. I think without the talking I'd put it on again to work to. But as is, i don't think i'd listen to this again.
A lot slower then i was expecting. I found myself getting bored and skipping to the next track.
Not for me. The singer has a unique voice and i never got used to it.
Good, maybe not the Stones i was expecting. I could see the Beatles comparison more on this record.
There wasn't a lot of variation between songs. The first track was fine, but i didn't need to hear it 12 times.
I enjoyed this. Strong start. I even listened to some of the alternative mixes.
I lost interest in it about halfway. The cover of California Uber Alles was strange.
Not sure what classic rock radio would sound like without this album. It's the definitive Zeppelin record. Stairway is almost bigger then the band.
I liked it better than i had expected to. Three Steps and Freebird still hold up.
At first, I thought maybe I'd like it more if is spoke french. By the end, I think i'd dislike this in any language.
Interesting. I don't think I'd listen to it again.
Straight forward punk album. I knew a couple of the songs. I'd put it on again.
Just great. I've listened to this a bunch of times and it's still a treat to listen to.
I liked it better then the last time I listened to it. It's the least interesting VU record to me.
I can see why so many bands cite this as an influence. It's so good and i should have listened to it years ago. A real treat and it deserves a relisten.
I liked the first song but then i lost interest. Not bad not good
The two songs i knew were fine. The rest of the tracks were hard to get through.
I'm real mixed on this record. The singles (Sabotage, Sure Shot, Root Down) are all incredible. The rest of the album just feels random. While i'll listen to the single again, there's no way i'm listening to this all the way through again.
Not for me. Maybe his voice sounded a little like Neil Diamond.
I had low expectations going in. Better then i expected but still not my thing.
About the same as the other Coldplay album we did. So So music and the lead still sounds whiny to me.
I think first time listening to this band. Not sure what I expected but I liked it. Maybe a little to 90s for some people's tastes.
Wasn't bad. Nothing new stuck with me. The single is still good.
I understand why this is on the list. I understand it's importance in Hip Hop. I'm just not going to listen to it again.
Take on Me is great. I don't know what i expected from the rest of the album. It was fine. Very 80s.
It took awhile for me to warm to his voice. I'm surprised how much I ended up liking this record.
Really enjoyed it. You can hear the influence it has on a lot of bands i listen to. Will listen again.
