1001 Albums Summary

A couple of good singles but overlong. Adding 1 nostalgia star (saw her on this album tour and it was...fine) but subtracting 1 star b/c she's already on the original list.

I liked their first more, but not much more.

I thought this was awful but it really does fit well with the book list.

Very much enjoyed this. One song in I thought it might end up on my 'music for coding' playlist and it has.

Based on last.fm, letsfathom, and aoty, this is very adjacent to my own user submission--Titus Andronicus' The Monitor--but I didn't really care for it. I don't like dude's voice and single style and I'm annoyed by the piano. I can see people saying the same about my album, so I'm curious how people who really love this feel about The Monitor.

Should be a requirement that user submitted albums be from artists not on the original book list. We heard Martyn twice already---sorry for ranting here instead on the 5th Bjork appearance but I thought 'how often is that gonna happen?' So far it's 5 out of 35 albums. Bah!

Attempted this one multiple times now and it's just not as good as his first 2. Innerspeaker and Lonerism are both solid 5's but Currents feels hollow and missing something (not enough guitar I think).

Here's the 2 I gave this after I listened 2 years ago. Not inspired to listen to 80 more minutes of a band I consistently don't really care for.

Fountains of Theater Kids

Stripped down versions of your favorite tracks, with extra repetitive robot vocals, backed with a low rumble of crowd noise. I love Discovery (5) and Homework is alright (3) and this album feels like the worst way to experience Daft Punk. The music being panned just left of center and the crowd noise just right of center makes for an awful headphones listen.

Vocals at a level where its almost like someone singing along to a stereo that's in the next room. Or maybe his voice just bugs me /shrug

Listened to this a decade or so ago. Good stuff but also I find it draining and don't really care for some of the voiceovers. Today I played the CD/streaming version and later the LP via youtube. CD is definitely preferred if only because it lacks the untitled 'I don't know what to do' banjo track on side 1. Locked groove at the end of LP side 2 is pretty cool tho. See you again in the 2030's, F♯ A♯ ∞!

Avoided this one for a while b/c I hated The Real Thing. I didn't hate Angel Dust but I didn't like it much either.

Could not tell this apart from their album on the original list, which the submitter may not have realized was there. Maybe an album to have on in the background while...nah, silence is less boring. Dude does not know how to end a song.

This was fine but I prefer the studio albums. Reading reviews before listening maybe raised my expectations and caused disappointment.

Saw them open for Yo La Tengo in 2010---happen to be currently wearing the YLT shirt I bought at that show, ha! I remember liking TNV a lot and then later being disappointed at the severe distortion when I listened to this album. I love me some distortion but this is way too much.

Who's Next and Tommy are solid 5's but Quadrophenia has disappointed me with every listen. The mix / remaster currently on streaming seems worse than previous as well.

Saw them open for Meat Puppets and Nirvana in 1993. They walked on stage, said "We're from Japan!!!" and played 30 minute of chaotic noise.

Benefits from multiple listens. One spin and I'd have given it a 3. I like the second half more than the first. Thanks OP.

got kinda bored on the first disc but thought i'd stick around for the full play of Dark Side, which I wasn't terribly impressed by.

Hadn't listened to the complete album before---more hand fart noises than I would have guessed.

Wow! I'm 220+ albums in to the user list and thus far this is the best discovery. I've listened 5 times in a few days and have it queued up for a run later today.

Love this album, excellent submission.

Better than Costello but too close to him for an enjoyable listen. I hear a little Joe Jackson as well.
