Fantastic album, probably their best. Even though it is a large departure from their original sound, the music and lyrics combine to be something truly wonderful.

I feel like I should listen to this album while riding a horse or sipping whiskey on a porch overlooking a grand vista.

I've been shpongled

I wanted to like it but it felt like walking around in a modern art museum exhibit more than listening to an album.

Look, I like GRiZ. "Good Will Prevail" is a great album, and GRiZ is a fun listen, but GRiZ is not a must listen. This was fine. Too many "WUB WUB"s for me, not enough saxophone but it was fine. I just think something else should have been on this list instead.

The singles are well known and good. The rest of the album is not as great, which is my overall issue with Queen.

I made two mistakes when listening to this record: 1) I was entirely sober and 2) I wasn't in a medieval monastery filled with candles. That's my bad.

3.5 hours? The submitters got jokes...

the Tom Tom Club said "Hey, them MTV kids now like industrial, electronica, and rock, we can do that!" and they did that. It's fun, a little stupid and silly, and probably unneeded. But I liked it.

Lots of energy and chaos. I enjoyed it.

As an English-speaker, I have no idea what is going on, but Portuguese is a very pretty language and the beats are nice.

"She" is a banger of a track. The rest was fine.

if Rob Zombie, Trent Reznor, and Iggy Pop made a record together... unfortunately, the idea sounds better than the execution.

A pleasant surprise. My only knock against it is a lot of the songs sound very similar.

I suspect user-submitted albums come with an unspoken rule: if it's long, you better have a damned good reason. This one runs 111 minutes — long enough to qualify as its own list. It could have been trimmed to under 45 minutes, or released as an EP; instead it should probably never have been submitted. At best it would be a 3, but the runtime knocks it down to a 2.

Is this a 3 because there's nothing particularly bad about the album or a 2 because there's nothing particularly good about it? When the album ends are you happy because you listened to it or are you relieved it's over? I'm more in the latter camp. Nothing bad about the album, just dull and I don't expect I'd ever revisit it. 2.5/5

fun listen.

Surprisingly good.

starts off strong but then loses steam in the middle. overall, fun pop.

It’s not that bad, and I would’ve rated it a 3—but after thinking about it more, there’s no replay value, so I’m lowering it to a 2.

halfway through, my kid changed the music to something else, I didn't even notice. It's not that this is bad, it's just... bland. There are many better examples from late aught's to early 2010's of indie rock, this was not one of the must-listen's.

Started off interesting and then just kind of fell off. Not sure if the songs got weaker or the shtick wore off...

what a mood. Best song is "Fly on the Windscreen", it felt like I was in Miami Vice (I then found out the song was featured in the show).

Great album, not a 5 just due to length. Could have been trimmed down and been the better album for it.

I liked it at the start but it's too long. A triple album that is only 50 minutes but seems longer than it is.

An intriguing idea does not make a good album. An interesting idea does not make music good. It's Bowie-meets-lounge-singer and when I wasn't hoping the song would end I was forgetting it was on. A good concept album needs a good concept and good music, and neither clicked with me.

What fun! like a proto-AC/DC. And that is probably a disservice to SAHB.

"Crimson Pt. 4" (or whatever, it was originally all one track and is now split up?) is possibly one of the worst songs I have ever heard, definitely bottom 5. If I was ever a prisoner of war, that is what would be blasted to make me go insane. The "singing" is just awful, and brings everything down to a 1.

Started off strong with really good garage rock vibes, but lost steam halfway through.

Love this album. Good, fun music that is the perfect length and doesn't take itself too seriously. Makes me want to eat some peaches.

Shoegaze seems like a genre i should like more than I actually do. The music is fine, just not especially memorable, and several tracks blur together. If you’ve heard other shoegaze, it may feel familiar.

"You got punk in my shoegaze!" "You got shoegaze in my punk!" a wonderfully chaotic album!

"Mom, can I have anxiety?" "No, we have anxiety at home" Anxiety at home: At first, the music was jarring to me, but it does a really good job of conveying someone having a panic or anxiety attack. I just hope that was the intention.

chaotic, jazzy, experimental. Great debut album from a fun band.

Good music marred by terrible vocals. I am glad to have listened to the music but I am glad that this style of vocals was not the shape of punk to come.

this is an album that sounds like it was made in 1989 and should have stayed in 1989. There are some sparks of life but overall very bland and boring.

Definition of cool.

"Paper Trails" has been a song in my regular rotation for years but the rest of the album has eluded me so I'm glad to see it on this list and give it a proper listen. Unfortunately, I don't think the rest of the album rises to the level of "Paper Trails". It's got a great bluesy-electronic sound but most songs take too long to get started. I found myself hoping the songs would "get to the point" which is a shame, because once it does, there is real good stuff there.

I was not surprised to see that the Tindersticks started recording this album after they toured with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in 1993. A lot of this album sounds as if Nick Cave fronted Mazzy Star for an album. In theory, that sounds like a great idea. And at times, it is but it drags on for far too long. Long songs, long album that should be cut by at least 25 minutes and could be much stronger for it.

Pleasant at times, boring other times. Only 45 minutes long but felt longer. Overall, I'd rather just watch the movies they are singing about and just listen to Elliot Smith afterwards.

Ignoring the fact that there is enough britpop and brit indie rock represented on this site, this album really doesn't bring anything new, interesting, or unique to the table. What's worse, it's not even that good. It's mostly forgettable, paint-by-numbers rock.

There are better Kenny Wayne Shepherd albums and certainly better blues albums. This would have made a great concert, but makes a meh album.

Shlock rock

Glad I listened to it once but I don't think I'd ever listen to it again. Truly amazing range of crap to great and back to crap. It's a whirlwind. Some songs are truly good with interesting layers and mashups of different genres, instruments, and voices like "Problème d'émotion". But then there are other songs which truly are painful to listen to like the opener "Viande". It is interesting, but not consistently good. At the end of the day, I was glad to have listened to it, but I was more glad that it was over.

if Talking Heads, Blue Nile, and Parliament Funkadelic tried to make an album. I can just imagine the likes of Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, or David Byrne listening to this album for the first time, slapping themselves on the forehead and exclaiming "it should have been me!" It's a glorious mess and I say that in the best possible way.

Reading the reviews about separating the art and the artist made me worried about listening to this album. Would I need to make an ethical or aesthetic choice? Luckily, both end in the same result. It's shit. Really, really shit. Forgetting the artist for a moment, it's bad singing, bad lyrics (ex. "It's so depressing when people die in real life"), just bad. Including the artist, it's even worse that this album is on this list. It's a bad imitation of Ben Folds' past albums (and I'd much rather listen to his albums than this). This album should be no where near this list. Easy 1.

fun. is not a bad band, but they don't have enough good material for an LP. Even though I prefer "Some Night" to "Aim and Ignite", both would be stronger as EPs, there is just too much filler on their albums.

Good music, you can definitely hear where later alternative metal like Deftones were influenced by this album.

it's a nice listen, like I was in a Scottish pub. 2nd half seemed to drag.

This isn't an album and should not be on this list. This is for people that have seen and appreciate the show. I've never seen the Phantom of the Opera so I can't say if this is good theater, but it's definitely not a good album - I was extremely relieved when it ended after 1 hour 40 minutes.

I don't normally like symphonic rock and my Spanglish isn't what it once was but this was a pleasantly enjoyable listen. I think it works so well because of the spoken poetry over the rock music.

I am genuinely jealous of anyone that can listen to this and say "yup, that's beautiful". It literally made my ears hurt.

Amazing that people were producing this kind of sound in 1974. Interesting music, not necessarily good but certainly not bad. You can definitely hear where Cluster walked so that musicians like Brian Eno could run. Definitely worthy of a listen!

a fun time, makes me want to wear a baja hoodie and play hacky sack in the quad. Starts off strong, but then wanes up and down for the rest of the album, but still overall fun listen.

The guitar is very pleasant, the recording/mixing is sublime. Being able to hear the plucking of the guitar or the buttons pressed on the melodeon/accordion is a wonderful experience, makes it feel like you are in the recording studio (or in a pub) with the band. However, the songs are too long and I didn't listen to this in a pub in a seaside town so the songs didn't land as I'm sure they are intended.

Great addition. Should have been on the original list.

3.4/5. The mashups are dripping with absurdism, sarcasm, and humor that I think the world needs more of. I just wish it wasn't so long and repetitive. If you like the idea of this album more than the execution, check out Cicierega's "Mouth Moods" which is a much stronger absurdist album.
