Popular Reviews

You know the budget B movie when the protagonist has to enter the dive club to meet a contact. Perfect for that.

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman

I know its satirical but I can't get over some of the lyrics.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Oct 06 2023

Feels very "safe" without much edge. Can't say most of the songs grabbed me. Modern Man was a stand-out though. Probably won't make it into a rotation for me, but found it inoffensive.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Oct 10 2023

Radio free europe a good opener, most of the others fall a bit short and unmemorable.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Oct 11 2023

An album you must listen to 1000 times before you die.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Oct 12 2023

Foundational. Pivitol. Revolutionary. Influential. Clinical & hyper-futuristic rendition of machines' impact on man through a Fritz Lang lens presaging Ray Kurzweil's vision of the singularity. You can see why John Foxx took these ideas and ran with them. Bathe in it with headphones.

S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things
Oct 13 2023

Standout tracks: Baron Saturday Defecting Grey I See You Mr Evasion You can hear the influnce they had on Bowie. Their later stuff sounds more up my street so might check that out. I did like the Spoitify follow-on tracks more though... Groovy baby.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Oct 17 2023

Still prefer the original to this cover of Love in Vain & noone covers RJ quite like Clapton of course. Midnight Rambler - The stones really building a strong son on their blues influences. Love the tempo changes. Great harmonica work. Monkey Man - more blues. Good. Nice tip of the hat to Robert Johnson with the line about lemon squeezer. You Can't Always Get What You Want - a far better song than some of the things its been used for

White Light by Gene Clark
Oct 18 2023

American wallpaper. Probably needs to be played on an 8-Track or reel to reel. Ironic title considering the cover, showing sunset which due to the increased amount of atmosphere the light has to travel through contains less light of shorter blue wavelengths due to Raleigh Scattering. So, not white light.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Oct 19 2023

Quite like it. Found myself humming some of the songs after a listening. Always a good sign! Probably inspired Jonathan Coulton?

The Sensual World by Kate Bush
Oct 20 2023

I'd still consider Hounds Of Love her gratest album, but there is only one word. Genius. ❤️

The Clash by The Clash
Oct 25 2023

Sadly still as relevant today as when it came out.

Dry by PJ Harvey
Oct 26 2023

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Oct 31 2023

I made it up to track 12: Myxomatosis. Have you ever seen a rabbit with myxomatosis? I have and it looks exactly like this sounds

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Nov 01 2023

Not really something I'm put on by choice, but it's very romantic :) I'm more of a Nat King Cole fella

Nov 02 2023

You know the budget B movie when the protagonist has to enter the dive club to meet a contact. Perfect for that.

Doolittle by Pixies
Jan 09 2024

Normally up for this but didn't click somehow.

Public Image: First Issue by Public Image Ltd.
Jan 19 2024

I don't think the title track can carry the album these days which is a shame. Very much of a "what do you do after punk?" album.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Mar 06 2024

good but showing its age a bit. Japan's "All Tomorrow's Parties" cover is still better though ....

Suede by Suede

Pornography by The Cure
Apr 18 2024

Saying this & other Cure albums are depressing is a surface level view and misses the point. They cathartic.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Apr 22 2024

Banger! On hard rotate all weekend. Really catchy, raw post punk, not too self serious proper band music.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
May 02 2024
Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
May 08 2024

5 stars for the starman. In this digital age I do miss sleeve notes though. The LP had the city that each song was composed in against the track. discogs has the info but its not really the same ...
