American IV: The Man Comes Around
Johnny CashGreat concept and cool album. Very neat that it’s his last one. Also, it is just cover songs…

I remember when this album came out and cannot believe it’s been 10 years! This album is awesome and very a very different feel. 5/5
One of my favorite all time albums. This is such a creative album and the production is amazing!
This album is really good. Her voice is amazing. It reminds me of the "Blues Brothers" style of blues and it's got a great feel. With that said, some of the songs are a bit played out sounding as, although the musicians do a great job, this style has been done and done again.
This album is awesome. Maggot Brain the song is a long trippy guitar solo that is just awesome. The second song may be my favorite when laid back guitar and drums turns into some cool 70s funk. I need a bigger car (like a Cadillac) when listening to this one.
This has always been one of my favorite albums. The song Roadhouse Blues has to be the best ever song to drink a beer. Besides that songs like, "Waiting for the Sun", "Peace Frog", "Ship of Fools", and "Spy" are sleeper hits that don't get the radio play but are among the best the Doors have to offer. Actually, there was a boxed set of the Doors Music years and years ago that listed all of the band members favorite Doors songs. Many of those songs that each member picked show up on this album unsurprisingly.
I didn't really like this one. All songs are bland and hollow sounding. Half of the songs sound like weird versions of "Bang a Gong" but worse. The other half sound like garbage versions of the worst Beatles songs. Songs like "One After 909" that use basic blues scales that went over well in the 60's to fill album space like but sound like something that you would hear a beginners garage band attempt nowadays. Boring album that is outdated imo. 2/5
This album rocks hard but gets old and boring fast. The lead singer and lead guitar both can whale. The production on this album SUCKS. Also, the guitar work (while technically awesome) has that hollow 70's sound and I wish there was some crunch and more full chords in there. I like the rawness of the songs and I can see a lot of thrash metal being influenced by this band. I do not think that many of the songs are very catchy however and this isn't an album that I see a lot of replay value in. The song "Child in Time" has a very cool melody and amazing guitar work. This is a good album that really encapsulates the early 70s hard rock scene. 3/5
This one is exactly what you thought it was. Everything sounds like different versions of the same song. . Boring and predictable but it has a weird Olive Garden/Wedding sentimentality to it. My Italian grandfather liked this style of music so I thought of him while listening to it. There are some of Sinatra's best songs on this album however including "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Pennies From Heaven" and "You Make Me Feel So Young" so you can reminisce about watching movies in the 80s/90s when it seemed like picking one of these songs for the soundtrack was a requirement. Otherwise, it's a skip and totally played out. 2.5/5
This album was a surprise to see on this list. Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill) is an interesting person and Bikini Kill was a cool band with a couple of good songs and a whole lot of attitude. I never like this band and I don't think that they are great musicians. 2 stars based on Bikini Kill nostalgia.
This album is OK. There’s some big vocals and some good points but mostly it’s the same old same old. There’s nothing very catchy and some parts are almost annoying. My seven-year-old asked why are we listening to this song and we had no answer. 2/5
This is a classic psychedelic rock album. There is some cool guitar work and trippy vocals. Almost too trippy… It’s good but the songs get a little long and drawn out at points. The vocals are cool sometimes and not quite hitting it for me at others. Not quite sure that this one still resonates. 3.5/5
Cool album by an amazing musician. Nothing on this album was catchy. It was very different and experimental. Not bad but also I will probably not listen to this one again. I couldn’t tell you one song on the album that I loved.
I wasn’t excited about this one. BUT I ended up liking a lot of it. The beginning and end of the album were really good with some bright spots! The middle was terrible and the song “White Ladder” was incomprehensible. 3/5
Absolutely unlistenable. This is anxiety. I hated every second of this. I am sure somebody likes this but, to me, this is a classic example of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” Worst album I have heard in years. 1/5
Love this album! Probably the Pixies 3rd best. Some classics on this one. Still hits hard! 4.5/5
Super cool album. I feel like I heard about this one back in the day and wasn’t ready for it. Very old school style and relaxing. Great music!
This is another classic from an all time great rock band. Baba O Reilly is a super spic way to start an album and the rest keeps up the energy. Bargain, a couple weird 70s breakdowns. It amazing overall. Great album and a must listen! 4.5/5
There are some points of the album when i wanted to stop listening. I know she get a lot of props for this album. Maybe at the time it was influential but…Not a fan.
Expected to give this one 2 stars but I really liked it. Great example of the post disco pop r&b sound of the 80s. Many classics and some I never heard.
Yes! Excited to get this on my list. Prowler!!! This is a great album from front to back and not too long and drawn out. Each song is a good one and I can’t believe it’s from 1980. 4.5/5
I liked parts of this album a lot and other parts were a little bit too weird for me. The song Lazarus is absolutely awesome. Other songs didn’t resonate with me as much. Not a bad effort, but mostly something that I found forgettable. Bowie has better albums out there.
I really enjoy this album! There are some famous songs on this that I’ve heard before, and I already liked. There were also many others that really filled out the feeling of the album and this album sounded great. Five out of five.
The guitarist had some skills and some of the riffs sounded pretty killer. Other than that I was left pretty disappointed with this album. I guess back in 1970 this is what punk rock was and maybe this was edgy. However, at this point in history, it sounds more like badly produced covers with shitty vocals and sloppy music in my opinion.
Good cool jams. A little 60s trippy for me compared to later Genesis but a cool listen.
This is obviously a classic album. Anything with the name Beatles on it is going to be cold. This isn’t my very favorite Beatles album but with that said all the Beatles album are my favorite Beatles album. 5/5
And I really did like it a lot however it’s not the best album. Some of the songs sound pretty cool and others sound a little bit dated at this point. A lot of the music sounds the same and again although I do like sex music this is not my very favorite CD or album. 3.5/5
Amazing album and extremely influential. I love the songs that I already know and the songs that I didn’t know very well. This is just terrific music 5/5.
This is a catchy album that definitely feels like the early 60s. I wasn’t living then but judging by the music, it was a real wild time baby. It’s a good album for what it is, but it’s definitely a one pony. Well nostalgic and interesting. Get pretty old pretty quick. 2 1/2 out of five.

I thought I would like this album but really didn’t like it at all. It was too jazzy and the songs were forgettable and annoying at points when the reputation of lyrics over and over started. Not a fan of this one. 1/5
This was such a different hip-hop album and OutKast was always a very cool and different hip-hop group. I really like this album in college and I feel like it still holds up today. Very creative songs and beats. 5/5.
Good album. Nothing bad here and nothing stand out. Good listen!
This is a strange album. I don’t think it was bad but it was definitely one dimensional and not my style 2.5/5.
Album. It sounds a lot older than it is. It has steel of folklore folk songs that sung for many generations. I think Tom Waits has the most surprising voice and I have always enjoyed creativity and songwriting. 4/5.
Great album! This one definitely was a banger from the 90s that I feel like everybody in my junior high loved. It aged great and I think that it sounds just as good now as it did then 5/5.
Very cool southern rock and amazing. Live album! The guitar on this album is just great. The only reason I didn’t get a 5-Star is that some of the jams go on a little bit long and even though they are amazing sound pretty similar. 4/5.
Extremely violent and outdated. This is from the time when saying lyrics about killing people and gangster shit was cool. I don’t think it’s cool. Also, this was lame in comparison to albums like Snoop Dogg or Dr. Dre because the rhymes were basic and it didn’t have any humor or playfulness to it. Like I said just negative and violent. Some of the beats were OK. 2/5.
This was a really interesting album and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I did like it a lot however it was strange that the songs were all covers and the only real difference was that it was using bongos. I liked it but not really sure what to say here. 2/5
Thought it was super creative and sometimes were just amazing. Other songs were a little bit out there for me, but I still really like this album. I would rate this one a four out of five.
I love this album and it’s a very different hip-hop album than Maddie that I have heard. I have always thought this is one of my favorite albums in this genre because it is so fun, relaxing, and playful to hear. There are many great hooks and beats on this album and the wrapping is awesome. Five out of five.
This is just a great example if not the best of southern rock ‘n’ roll but there is out there. But it’s Skynyrd shows it all with great hooks amazing lyrics and ripping guitars. Great all around 5/5.
Is another really good one from the cure. This one doesn’t have many catchy songs or hook, however, it does have a very cool feeling that goes through the whole album. Very melancholy with a driving undertone, this album is one I would listen to again.
There were a couple good beats that you could maybe freestyle to or get some homework done while listening to. Otherwise, this is boring and forgettable.
This album really surprised me! I knew James Brown was a historic songwriter and performer, but just did not know how much I would enjoy this album. It had soul, had some great songs, and was an awesome example of a live album.
Classic album. A but old sounding now but IT’S REALLY OLD! Irreplaceable.
There were a few decent beats in here and it was kind of a fun record if you like to do some freestyle hip-hop. Otherwise, the sound got a little bit old and it was good for background music if you like that 2.5/5.
This album was cool. I did like it however there was really nothing that I loved about. Exactly what I’d expect for stooges with some nice but nothing special. The classic and itll stay that way, but it’s not what my classics.
This album was just so boring. It sounded like someone playing keyboards in the 70s lounge at a steakhouse. The singing was fine but the exact same song sounding like every single time. I had to skip through all songs and couldn’t finish this album.
And definitely one of the best hip-hop albums of that time.. One thing is that it definitely age poorly regarding some of the words and waves women and others were talked about. This album is very violent. I love the beats the time and some songs are still awesome but have to give this only a 3.5/5 because of the violence etc.
This is a good album. I like to see wonder a lot but I’m not a huge fan of disco funk. 3.5/5.
The sound started out really good for me but got weird after a while. Especially the whole Christian one… 2.5/5
This album was OK I guess. They had one hit song in that one was pretty good. The rest were forgettable and not very good songs. 2/5.
Great album. Amazing musicianship.
This is good music for a dinner party or if you’re having a wine at the bar. Otherwise it was forgettable and boring. 2/5.
This was pretty cool DJ music but also was annoying at times. I liked it overall. 3/5.
I don’t understand this album or band. The band covers songs from the 60s and 70s and, although the guitarist is not bad, it doesn’t seem like it this needed to be made. 2/5.
This is an awesome album that obviously was Peter Frampton‘s defining moment. I love this album and have a personal connection to the song baby I love your Way. 4.5/5
I wanted to like this album because it had a punk rock feel. The problem is I didn’t like it at all. A lot of screaming and no hooks made this boring and I had to stop before the end of the album. 2/5.
Love Supergrass! This early release was so good and I enjoyed listening to it again. Great album.
This album surprised me. It was very well done and produced. The feeling of the album was really good and kind of melancholy. Loved it. It was very sexually charged, however.
Good album but redundant as all YYY songs and albums seem to be. One trick pony.
Kind of cool. It get annoying quick and is very repetitive. Original sounding though.
Boring Britt punk from the 80s. All sounds the same. Low quality musicianship
Early 60s pop. Nothing memorable here.
Great album with some classic songs! Most of the songs on this album really hit, but there are a few that are a little too out there for progressions and instrument.
Great songs! Not sure if it was the singing or production (both?) but this would rock with a better singer! This singer isn’t bad but it all kind of drones together. Enjoyed this one! 3.5/5
Great concept and cool album. Very neat that it’s his last one. Also, it is just cover songs…
One of the best! This is a great example of an innovative, creative, and perfect rock album to fit the time and genre.
Album was in French and sounded very dated. It was live in the singer sounded very commanding. Aside from that I couldn’t finish this out. 1.5/5.
Songs that appear in just about every movie from the 1980s. It had some nostalgia and I’m sure at the time the songs were very fresh. At this point, however, I’ve heard them so many times it just seems stale. The songs I hadn’t heard we’re not very impressive to me. 2.5/5
Great example of southern country rock. This one has some great songs and some that are really good. 3.75/5.
Call Beatles albums are perfect and rated 5/5
This album was pretty much the same thing the whole time. I’m sure at the time it was different and innovative, but I felt sounded like average garage band. That’s a special with the guitars or hooks and the lyrics. This one was only OK. 2.5/5.
Cool 60s vibe on a classic rock album but this one isn’t too different than a lot of other stuff. I’ve heard no great songs and no huge hook. 3.5/5.
Great blues but heard this song and dance before.
Cool but boring and no hooks.
Loved this album until the second half which was boring and weird. 2/5
This was a really cool surprise! Reggae with kind of a sublime deal I’ll have to check when this came out to see who influence too. Some songs were cleaner than sublime, but it reminded me quite a bit of a little more reggae version of sublime. 4.25/5.
Great 80s metal album! Not tap as Metallica but still amazing. 4/5
Was not what I hoped it would be. It’s not a bad sounding alternative album but some sons. I’ve just had enough of her voice. Also, the music is nothing special so it gets old quick. 2/5.
Good album! It has some weird 90s EuroRap but otherwise I like it! 3.75/5
I remember when this album came out and cannot believe it’s been 10 years! This album is awesome and very a very different feel. 5/5
Really cool album. Lots to hear from different styles. Beatles influenced…
Super different w it h great percussion. Love!
This reminded me a lot of sublime. I’m not sure which came out first but I think sublime did so. I can’t say this is an amazing album as it is a little bit of a copycat. But I did enjoy this 3.25/5
Classic Southern rock. This one doesn’t get old 4.25/5. .
This is an awesome album for the industrial genre. This is something that influence a lot of other musicians and is very unique. 4.25/5.
This album had some really inventive and awesome music and some music. I really did not like. 3/5.
Was worse than I thought it would be. Disappointing and boring, the pinnacle was the cover of. He’s got this whole world in his hands. 2/5.
This is a decent album. It has some good songs that I’ve heard before. The rest sound like Southern 70s country rock. 2.75/5
