Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal

Let's be honest, unless you had a similar background to mine (born in the 90s in the UK) you might find it odd that this album has made the list. I hate to be that guy but... you had to be there. It's not THE Grime album but it definitely brought it to the mainstream and served as a gateway for lots of british kids to garage, dubstep and drum n bass, while it was looked over on the radio, it was playing from the motorola or LG chocolate mobile phone on the back of the bus. I remember very distinctly getting "I Luv U" sent to me via bluetooth at the time and wondering what I was listening to. Listening to it today, it's amazing how many sounds and elements are still prevalent in UK EDM to this day. Truly influential and made even crazier when you realise Dizzee was 17-18 when he was recording this album.

Being a casual but appreciative fan of the Beatles for years, this feels like a classic "lost tapes" album that you see pop up every so often these days, but it was released years ago and unfortunately panned into obscurity. Despite the context in which it was released, I'm glad it's appeared on this list as I'm sure I would never have heard it otherwise. On display here is McCartney's deft but gentle touch on a number of simple songs or musical sketches, harking back to the early Beatles days. What's different and miraculous is that this album feels close and intimate, like he's performing for you in the room. For a figure as mercurial as Paul McCartney this is a huge triumph and I think it elevates this album, I can't think of many albums from musical megastars that give such a feeling. It also helps that I was listening to this album when I needed cheering up, which it certainly did.

I find this album frustratingly inconsistent but I definitely hear the potential and it make me intrigued to listen to more of her music, here’s hoping she sticks with the trip-hop sound. Favourite track: Stars All Seem To Weep

I think I would have loved this at a different point in my life, it's simple and stripped down but it just lacks that little bit of substance. Ultimately there's more to like than dislike.
