Really wanted to like this album more but I couldn't. Feels like its my jam but it never really hits that point that sends it up for me. Stand out tracks: Mambo Sun, Get it On, Life's A Gas
The kind of whiny, sad album I like. In the same vein as Benji or A Crow Looked At Me, just 16 years earlier. This will be one of those albums that you either like or hate.

Didn't really expect to like this so much, but it fucks from start to finish. A dozen short, slick, hard-hitting tracks. Chester Bennington's lyrics are the driving force of the album and his vocals are supposed to be a big draw, but I found him annoying to listen to at times. Still a solid 4/5
The bizarre wailing at the beginning made me think I was in Discord with Josh Ash, hut the rest of the album is listenable.

Only heard U2's singles before, and never thought much of them. This album was front loaded with 3 of their biggest singles, and all the rest was totally unfamiliar. Turns out that's the more interesting stuff! Not terribly interesting, but a solid 3/5

Always meant to listen to this album because BIG 100.3 plays the Live at Budokan version of "I Want You to Want Me". Pretty good album.
I mean, this sucked but it's also fine? I'm not a tween girl so I didn't care for most of the lyrical content. But it's the fuckin' Neptunes producing most of the album. It SOUNDS great! But it isn't great at the same time. I'm just not the target demographic for this music. I also fucking cannot stand Rock Your Body. Worst single J Timbers ever made. I guess I'll give this 3 stars.

Violent Femmes's singer has that midwestern vocal fry that I've come to love in Modern Baseball's Jake Ewald and the group have the sonic stylings of Iceage (this album gave me Plowing Into The Field of Love vibes). This is clearly the precursor to shit that I REALLY love. 4/5

I wish the music had died sooner
This was fine on its own, but I feel like I need more context to really get a lot out of this. This was recorded in a time that the artists were ousted from their town because of a war in their home country of Mali, and I'm sure the lyrics are probably about that but I don't understand any of it. Sonically, very little about this seems to be distinct from American Black blues music, so I'm not getting a Malian feel from that either. Still a 2/5, but I think it could be a 4 or even a 5 if I did the homework to understand this better. Paradoxically, though, I don't really want to do homework.

Bittersweet Symphony is a jam for sure. When I saw that their other singles had WAY more listens I was intrigued, as I had never heard of any of the songs. Kind of a let down. Album was a 3/5 in the end.

Didn't get much out of this. The last song was nice. Also there's 2 Thom Yorke features and one the first one, he just sort of moans and wails for a bit ovwr the track. Made me giggle when I realized that was going to be the extent of his contribution.
I have seen the album cover for this dozens of times because i would often type in "goo" to my browser's address bar and then press Enter and sometimes I would stroke the key (no homo) before the browser autofilled "google.com" and the browser would return this Sonic Youth album as the result every time. Never listened to it but was always curious just because I saw it so often. It's good.
