It was very good. Not listened much to this kind of soft rock blues sort of stuff, was a nice intro. Some very enjoyable songs. Favourite was probably the opening song(2nd in the album).
Objectively good album, but not for me. Stan was good(probably as it was more suitable for people like me). Not a fan of the skits, put me off it.
Great sound, similar to a lot of stuff I'd listen to. Neighbourhood #3 was a favourite.
Timeless classic. Simply easy listening. Didn't find it particularly notable other than the big hits however. Perphaps will enjoy more on relistens.
Wow. Not sure how I havent listened to this before, but definitely enjoying it. Definitely a masterclass country musician.
Great voice, great covers, nothing much more to say. And he did this whilst partially blind and constantly sick
It's just fine. I appreciate Elton John as an all time great, and he has some fun songs, but they do nothing for me. Pleasant listening. perhaps one day I'll realise exactly what I'm missing out on.
Prog rock album! Thought it reminded me of king crimson; turns out it's a supergroup containing a member of king crimson.
Parts seem like a random amalgamation of noise often, but imagining being in the crowd and the atmosphere at those parts justify it. Especially considering this is a live album recording. It's hard to imagine how special this would sound compared to most other music made at the time - otherworldly.
Perhaps not my go to easy listen, but undeniably great.
Sounds good, easy listening, don't feel there's that much to say. simply enjoyed it.
Good first impressions, opener is great. Similar style to some stuff I already listen to. the mix of brass with the guitar is wow! Never heard anything particularly similar, very unique.
Listening to the International Robot Sessions became a bit of a drag but the main album was good. Early punk rock so its a bit before my taste - cool to see how it has influenced later music.
Very good guitar playing. As expected Janis Joplin is an incredibly good singer. Very impressive.
Quite good! Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. Should listen to their other albums.
Absolute classic. Haven't listened to any of the folk or country greats before, so a really interesting listen. I follow a few contemporary artists like Jesse Welles who are currently very big and its very cool to see how he's influenced by the greats.
Strange. Electronic stuff that was interesting but not really for me. Reading about it, it is clear it was hugely influential in electronic music and i can respect that, but wouldn't listen again.
Interesting piece. Not particularly enjoyable, but very impressive for the time. I couldn't imagine listening to this in 1968. Cool effects and stuff, flower punk with the overlaying voices was certainly interesting.
Instantly recognisable from the start. stones are very good. reminds me how much i want to learn proper blues guitar. Wild horses obviously is very very good. Enjoyable listening all the way though. vocals are also very good. Can't say a bad word about it really.
Guitar intro is good. Can definitely see the Hendrix inspiration. However it's definitely not my kind of thing. Last song, not a fan of the weird farting samples they have, but its music i suppose.
Weird. The guitar was really nice at points, reminded me of pink floyd. e.g. in "including the ballad of 32" but not particularly fan of the moaning in the background?? obviously with this album name its not unexpected however that doesn't make it a pleasurable listening experience.
Overall quite a well put together album though regardless of it being all over the place, definitely works, just not my style. Definitely enjoyed the second half more. Strange in the shift, The Power of Love, massive hit etc, such a change from a lot of the album. very sporadic.
Actually enjoyed listening to this more and more, found it a slog at first and then it picked up, my ears seemed to find it more interesting.
Masterpiece. Iron Man, War Pigs, Paranoid, all timeless classic. Unbelievable to imagine buying and listening to this in 1970.
RIP Ozzy Ozbourne. This album landed the day of his death, a good homage.
Come Alive(war of the roses) is quite good. I am quite impressed at the range of genres shown here.
I appreciate Bowie as one of the greats of all time, but I also found I didn't think much of this. Just didn't interest me, but not bad by any means.
Some great guitar playing! Didn't think much of this one though. Not my style, though I have to give it credit for being largely influential.
Wow! really enjoyed this. Haven't listened to much stuff by ELO, other than Mr Blue Sky - certainly are overshadowed by that hit, as there are a lot of gems on this album. Birmingham Blues, Turn to Stone, and Wild West Hero were some good ones.
Just okay. Nothing wrong with it, nothing great as well.
Kind of what i'd expect from an album from 1969. But it sounds quite nice so far, openers are always good.
Some songs in french?! Sounds nice
It's RHCP, which means its good. Never listened to a full album of theirs before, definitely an enjoyable experience. Unbeatable mix of guitar and bass.
Interesting to listen to Kiedis' lyrics. Some are better than others.
It's that kind of rock and roll i am very much a fan off, and want to learn to play on both guitar and piano. Can't be beaten.
Very impressive singing.
1 - the ending with the drum fill? and the guitar solo is amazing.
3- mix of poetry, music? Quite an impressive performance.
6- nice backing guitar. again vocal performance is very impresive, all fits very well together. quite the fan actually.
7- just reinforces what i've said before. interesting lyrics, good performance.
Surprisingly really enjoyed this. Not the usual kind of thing I'd put on it but it was very lyrically interesting, and is of course my kind of basic rock and roll, with a little added complexity. Becoming quite a fan of spoken music at the moment.
A new level - sick opening riff, metal guitar is unbeatable.
Walk is of course the big hit, and i can see why, such a good riff.
Dimebag is an insanely good guitarist. Would be nice to play some of his stuff one day.
Lyrical performance in This Love was really cool. Outro was unique as well.
Interesting. Have only heard of Can previously as Radiohead covered their "The Thief", which led me to listen to Delay 1968.
This one was very interesting - first impression was surprising, seeing only 4 songs. I can't really say much about them, other than they were particularly atmospheric. I think I find this kind of music more of an acquired taste. All in all, not bad, not good.
Not my kind of music, never really listened to anything like this before. It's interesting.
I can see the appeal, but I personally didn't really enjoy it.
Really enjoyed this actually. Didn't take note of much songs by themselves but overall the album was very enjoyable. I think the live recording improved it as well. Wish I could play piano like that!
Pretty good! Don't really have much to say. Kind of similar to some stuff I've listened to before, did enjoy it, but just didn't find it particularly interesting or impactful to me.
Really weird, lots of rambly spoken verse. Not really my kind of thing first listen and I didn't enjoy it all that much. but I can also imagine liking it if i listened to it more.
Interesting I guess. Feels like something I would actually go and listen to, probably put on at night to relax. Some particularly soothing piano parts + the basically spoken vocals were nice, leb wohl was enjoyable.
Masterpiece. Knopfler's virtuosic playing is just unbeatable. I don't understand how he does it. Add in the drums and bass, and well you've got something special. And this was their first album! Legendary.
Paper tiger's guitar solo combined with those strings is just lovely.
Quite a diverse soundscape in this album so far. Really impressed with it, the range from 3's acoustic quality, to some of the more ethereal sounds we see. And it still flows well.
Had only heard Beck's "Everybody's gotta learn time before this". which is a shame. This was a good listen. Gonna have to give it a 4 to be consistent with other ratings, but this is undeniably really good.
I don't know what I was expecting to hear, but it certainly wasn't this! Quite a pleasant surprise, and a good listen. Did find it dragged on a bit towards the end and I think the first half was a lot stronger than the second. But well worth the listen. Reminded of BCNR towards the end actually.
Quite impressed for a pop album, the theming and the tracks is put together particularly well, and I can't say I disliked listening at any point really. Uses R&B influence well and is a pleasant enough listen. It's fine.
Rather eclectic! Middle-class heroes, such strange almost spoken verse, really draws you in. Such a hectic, constantly fluctuating nature, aggressive to calm so fast, and the music perfectly complements it. Wasn't expecting to enjoy this so much! A nice blend of genres I enjoy.
Amazing album, lots of nostalgia from a few years ago with this one. Just perfect.
Not my kind of thing, but it was still off to a strong start. Enjoyed perhaps the first half. But gets a bit boring, samey, and the second half didn't have much to offer.
Jackson was obviously a master of his craft, and I suppose you can see it in his work. But I quite simply just didn't enjoy listening to this, it didn't hit in any of the right places.
Perhaps I'll read this review one day and wonder what was going through my head, but I can't give this any more than a 3. I recognise that Michael Jackson was an amazing artist, but his music means nothing to me personally. Probably doesn't help that the guy slept with kids.
Really good, as expected. Just really enjoyed listening to this. Can't say its a masterpiece by any means, just another album by Presley. However it also cannot be knocked.
What an album.
Masterpiece after masterpiece. Don't think I've ever listened to this all the way through - been missing out. some new favourites. just perfect. Powerful vocals, amazing guitar playing, beautiful lyrics. Wow.
God this was terrible. Really didn't enjoy this. I generally have an open mind to all music, and that includes rap - I appreciate quite a few rap artists. But listening to this felt like meaningless drivel and I think its one of the few times where I was actively counting down to the end of the album. Just unpleasant.
Thought it was fine a few songs in - good listening for the genre(to me) perhaps. Then it just dragged and dragged, nothing felt new and it just wouldn't end.
I don't whether this is a particularly influential or appreciated album or not, but it means nothing to me.
Amazing. Suppose it's kind of ironic straight after giving Straight Outta Compton a 1, but what makes this(and most music) album for me is the playing. Every single track on this album just hits hard back to back, there's not a single slump. I am in awe of Morello's guitar playing, it's everything from unbelievably creative and weird to riffs that I could listen to all day. The rage and anger works so well and is really unbeatable for a protest album.
Bit undecided on this one. Really liked some of the guitar parts, some really good playing. Riffs just really hit right. But I also found it dragged on quite a bit and towards the end I wasn't really enjoying it anymore.
I quite enjoyed this. it has the same indie pop sound of a few artists I listen to yet I've never heard of them. I can't say it's anything particularly special but I think I'll listen again. I have found that I often grow to like this kind of music more over time.
Just classic. Can't beat ABBA. A great listen all the way through.
I didn't think that much to this one. Dylan is obviously considered one of the greats and I can't bash his music, but this album just didn't do anything for me.
I had obviously heard of Prince before listening to this, but I had never really listened to him properly. This was good.
A bit undecided on this one when I listened to it. Some of it good, but I think more of it mediocre. Didn't think it was anything special.
The band of my childhood. Such nostalgia listening to some of these tracks. Impeccable guitar writing. loud, noisy, unapologetic. Just really quite good.
Considering I am not a rap fan and likely never will be, I actually found parts of this quite bearable. Felt more musical than the other rap this has thrown at me, I think having so many different people work on it led to some pretty varied, but decent results. Wouldn't listen again, but I can't bash it much.
Just okay I suppose. Easy listening, absolutely nothing wrong with it.
The further I got through this the more I liked it. Perhaps as an instrumental it's considered boring, but I don't think this fall under music for the sake of music. Really well written parts, especially the violin. Was nice while studying.
Pretty decent I guess. Surprising I hadn't listened to this already, although I am not a particularly great fan of britpop.
A good listen, some really good tracks.
It was fine. I generally listen more to the instruments than the lyrics in music, and I have really enjoyed albums in different languages before(especially Spanish), however this one just didn't really stick with me.
I think it is very easy to argue that this is not Radiohead's best work, and I personally would say that Amnesiac isn't even within their best 5 albums. However, I also think that if any other band(such as the flagships of the dying britpop craze) had produced this, it would've been remembered as their magnum opus.
I am extremely biased with Radiohead, but they are undeniably masters of their craft, and this album is no exception.
Pyramid Song is undeniably beautiful.
You And Whose Army? / I Might Be Wrong / Knives Out is an absolutely outstanding 3 track run perhaps only rivalled by some on Ok Computer.
Understated tracks like Dollars and Cents are still outstanding.
I can't say much to Hunting Bears as it is a transitional piece, however it certainly works well as part of the album as a whole.
And of course Life In a Glasshouse is just amazing - Yorke's whine with the horns cannot be rivaled.
For an album which is essentially just the leftovers from Kid A(an absolute masterpiece), this is utterly brilliant.
Never heard of these before but thats what this list is for. Really enjoyed this one actually, great sound. Not the greatest fan of the Satisfaction cover though - it was unique and they've made it theirs but it just didn't hit the same way the original does.
I understand John is one of the greats, however I had never really taken much notice of his work. Before my time. This was a brilliant album. Really enjoyed the instrumental soundscape in addition to his excellent vocals. The opener was amazing.
This site has already thrown Beck's Sea Change at me, which I thought was pretty good. I knew this was an earlier album, but wow I did not expect this. Completely different. Some parts good, some parts not so much, however I was consistently impressed with the variety in this album and likely all of Beck's work.
It was very okay. Some great rock, and I wish I could play guitar like that, but it felt to drag on and on, very samey.
More Costello. Fine the first time, but I didn't need another of his albums in my life. Boring, dragged on. Didn't appeal in any way really. Maybe good background music.
Really nice. I should listen to more reggae, thoroughly enjoyed this.
Really nice easy listening. some lovely tracks, and a beautiful voice.
Favourite track - beginner's luck
Can't beat King Crimson when it comes to class prog. Eccentric, exciting, certainly a worthwhile listen.
perhaps compared to their other albums it isn't much however
Some easy listening. Great tracks on here that I hope to return to. Didn't feel particularly special or unique but thats not always required from music.
Jazz is a big hit and miss for me but I found I really quite enjoyed this. Very sporadic instrumentation, chaotic yet so technical and precise. Pretty cool.
80s 80s 80s. maybe the embodiment of the music of that era? I did really enjoy though. Just solid all the way through.
Very nice. Particularly a fan of the jazz parts. Favourite track - I Can't Stop Loving You
It was very average. I couldn't say I despised it by any means but I found it very boring at some points, with some spots of interest which soon faded. It feels harsh to give this a 2 but I can't justify a 3.
Favourite track - Mother's Daughter
The Who is one of those bands that I've been told to listen to and previously I've never really thought much of them. This album was a real introduction to exactly why they are so good.
Great playing, great tracks, and an amazing atmosphere from the sound of it. Would've liked to be there.
It's not quite a 5, but it does feel harsh giving this a 4.
It's jazz. I suppose it could be interesting, but I just don't really care for it. Miles Davis is undoubtedly one of the greats and I can appreciate this from a technical perspective but I would never choose to put it on. Although was good background studying music.
Really quite good. Great musicality all the way through, highly enjoyable. Felt a bit slow at the start/middle of disc 2 but otherwise super solid. A higher 4 but I can't justify a 5.
Wow at the guitar playing in contusion.
Never knew Gangsta's paradise had used Pastime Paradise. Perhaps I live under a rock.
A really good one. I think it slowed down a bit at times but in general very very good. Tempting to give this a 5.
Cherub Rock - what an opener. I can tell this is going to be really good. Amazing solo - I am a big fan of solos which bend like that, and when the vocalist sings over a soloing guitar - this song does it so well.
Intro to hummer - that little bass slide(I think) is lovely.
Favourite track - Mayonaise. very very good.
What an album. Had heard of The Smashing Pumpkins before but never took the time to really listen to them. I should do so now.
Lovely bass. A fantastic opener.
Real nice all the way through. Proper disco. Some great listening quite different to what I normally would put on. It just feels familiar, like I've heard it all before. Perhaps that signifies it's a bit samey, but it's consistently enjoyable.
Definitely want to consider exploring this genre further.
I have heard of the Grateful Dead before and I understand they are very very good.
However I didn't enjoy this introduction to them. I think if I heard this live my opinion would be different, but listening to this was boring.
Lots of incessant noodling around, felt like I was getting nowhere. I'm normally a fan of guitar parts but this just felt meaningless. I imagine I'm missing the point.
Some parts were enjoyable - Favourite was Death Don't Have No Mercy.
Listening to a few of their other songs now, I think they remain a band worth listening to. Perhaps just not this album.
2/5 for the decent ones.
Felt like I was listening to French ASMR. Some good instrumental bits from time to time but certainly nothing special. Perhaps good for those who speak French, or who take the time to understand it. But even then, the way the story is delivered simply didn't interest me.
Very very good. A favourite band of mine from a few years ago so writing this with a lot of nostalgic bias. Really enjoyed listening through this again however and I don't question my old music taste. A bit different to what I normally like I suppose which is cooler than anything else.
Favourite track - Of Moons, Birds & Monsters probably. Lots of contenders for that title.
I think its meant to be really good. I've definitely seen it listed as one of the best albums of all time. In fact I believe I listened to this a year or so ago for that reason, and just like then, I found it quite boring. Nothing felt particularly intruiging, it was just fine. Certainly nothing wrong with it.
Perhaps this is because I haven't lived long enough to really see music evolve in real time. Comparing this to the music I like to listen to now, it seems average, subpar. But when it was released maybe it was revolutionary to those who listened.
Found it very boring, insgnificant. Didn't think much of it at all. Not unpleasant, just background music.
Bordering on a 3. Feels very influential, like it has set foundations for a lot of the music I listen to today, even whilst not being particuarlly interesting itself. So many genres within just one album.
They're Christmas songs. Can't bash them, very good. Always nice to listen to during christmas i suppose, soo maybe it was a mistake leaving it for a couple days. Reading through Phil Spectors wikipedia page is a wild ride.
I really like Scarborough Fair. Lovely. The interplay between the voices and instruments is really quite nice.
Intro of patterns is great! Really well produced album, big fan of how the instruments are panned. Some very powerful lyricism from what I'm listening to. I imagine this will continue throughout the album.
Big fan of their rendition of Silent Night. Felt like a glimpse into history. A different time. Same with the Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine being a caricature of consumerism apparently - perhaps unfortunate to see the message apply more than ever so many years down the line.
A really really good listen. Short and sweet, I think everything in there belonged. A good pace. I didn't come into this expecting a 5, as even though I knew Simon & Garfunkel as one of the greats they haven't previously appealed to me much. However I think it feels wrong to give this any less.
Quite nice. Relaxing.
Lovely jazz piano.
A very good 3. I don't think I'd ever choose to put it on but a very nice atmosphere.
90 minutes of mediocrity. Not awful, just bland and boring, a bit like American culture I suppose.
Neil Young is undeniably an amazing artist. However I really don't like the way he sings in this album. Very whiny in the title track.
Quite like Southern Man though. Nice instrumentation.
Overall an underwhelming experience I suppose. Nothing that wrong with it, but certainly not amazing.
I thought this was pretty good when first turning it on but it soon became quite boring, Britpop isn't exactly the most expansive genre and this album just felt incredibly samey. Unsurprising that these have been forgotten over the years.
Blister in the sun is such a classic riff. One of the reasons I play the guitar.
Other than blister in the sun I'm going into this without having heard most of these. High expectations for the Femmes
Bass coming in on Kiss Off is amazing. Works so well. Big fan of the percussion/bass/vocals. Good voice.
Exceptional bass once again on the next. Liked the vocal harmonies as well.
Can't say I like the vocal intro in Add it Up, but when everything comes in its very good.
One of the best things listening to this one is I randomly pick up on bits they've written that have influenced other alt rock that I regularly listen to, it's cool to see their impact.
Gone Daddy Gone - amazing vocals once again. Really a fan, I don't usually care much for singing, but Gano is really impressive and quite powerful.
I loved this album. Not often you see bass be FAR more important and guitar, and when it is done so well, it just results in quality. Certainly lived up to my expectations.
Very very good. Both Frusciante and Flea are untouchable. Such amazing instrumentation.
Perhaps less solid in the second half but I think the vocals actually picked up here which lead to a really nice change in pace instead of a dissapointment.
I had written a nice long yappy review about this album but it was accidentally overwritten. :(
Weak 5/5, but hard to argue for me that this deserves a 4.
The waahp wahp at the start of Disney Girls made me happy. No idea why he's on about Tootsie rolls though.
Boring. When I write these I listen out for things I liked or interest me. Nothing on this album did that. I know The Beach Boys are supposed to one of the greats, but this did not do that for me. I suppose it's a case of recognising how good it would've been when it was released.
2.5
A 3 to recognise the impact of this band on history i suppose.
Initally quite a nice sense of familiarity, as if I've heard it all before. Hope it continues this way.
Nevermind. The further I got through this the worse it got.
The War On Drugs came on after the album was over and I instantly picked it up and was like "Oh wow, something interesting?!"
The appeal of this album came from the (justifiably) incredibly popular songs that I've heard countless times before. That, and a sense of nostalgia i suppose i could say I was even looking forward to this listen. Regrettably. The lesser known parts of this album was *yawn*, going especially downhill in the second half. Boring and inconsequential.
Why listen to Coldplay to be sad when you can listen to Radiohead to be sad?
Obviously the main focus of this album is on the singing, and this is undeniably done incredibly well. Wow. Great accompanying instrumentation.
However not my kinda music really and I don’t think I’d put it on again
I went into this with high expectations(it's the Beatles) and I also went into this expecting to be disappointed. Surprisingly, I wasn't!
Really quite impressed with just how good this was. I can see why this was the start of pop stardom for the band and just how it launched their career. Songs were surprisingly fresh for what is considered generic 60s pop/rock and it was really tight front to back with no fluff.
I do agree the mixing on a few of the songs was a little shoddy - I found the panned instruments in the first track quite jarring. However I think this is just part of the album that aged poorly, as I imagine this was something relatively new at the time.
Weak 5, but a 5 nonetheless. I do wonder if I'd have given this a 4 if it wasn't Beatles.
Favourite Track - Roll Over Beethoven
Hip-Hop isn't my kind of thing. I was pretty set on a 2 but as I worked my way through this I was quite impressed with just how tolerable it was. Don't think I'd consider putting it on again but it really is an incredible debut. I know I'd consider this a masterpiece if I was into the genre.
Interesting listen. So impressive just how much Beck shifts genres - this was a completely different sound to Sea Change which is another album this list has thrown at me.
A high 3. Some of it just didn't hit right.
Liked songs: Novacane, Ramshackle, Diskobox.
It was okay. Some good, most mediocre. Very much a 3. I think I enjoyed listening to it at the time but thinking back there was nothing I liked that much
Interesting one to get from this list. Kind of surprised a soundtrack made it onto this list. There were some nice parts. I quite enjoyed the piano playing. But it felt a bit disjointed listening to it as an album, I think this is perhaps best enjoyed with the film itself(not that I've watched it).
It was good. Solid all the way through - I did prefer the more popular ones. Unfortunately pedophiles can make good music.
Listened to this one quite a few times but it certainly won't hurt to listen again.
Everything In Its Right Place is such an amazing opener. That alien keyboard tone really sets the scene for just how much they had moved away from Ok Computer.
Kid A is without any doubt the best ringtone written of all time(and also just a really solid track)
I LOVE The National Anthem. An amazing yet simple bassline, and when the brass section comes in its unbeatable chaotic. They played this one live when I saw them - something I'll never forget.
The transition from the chaos of The National Anthem into How To Disappear Completely is so well done. This is one of the songs I'll put on when I don't want to think or feel and the album really parallels my own emotional highs and lows with this shift. I'm not usually one for lyrics but this one in particular really does speak to me. It's hard to put into words how this song makes me feel. My brain turns off when the strings come in at the end.
I think as a standalone track Treefingers makes no sense but within the album as a whole it creates such an atmosphere after How To Disappear. The times when I've listened to this album in an existential mood sometimes it feels like this is an opportunity to think and process how I feel. Other times it's like my mind is empty and it means I don't have to think.
Optimistic is undeniably a banger, love the shift to that guitar riff. I don't think Yorke meant it in a positive light but I usually just pretend this is a happier song cause at a surface level it makes me happy.
In Limbo is a lovely return to the atmosphere that makes up this album as a whole. I like the lyrics in this one quite a lot as well.
The drum machine in Idioteque is the best thing ever. So so so good. Another one they played live that was just quite simply amazing. I keep yapping about how good the atmosphere is in these songs but it really is true. In quite a few of these many of the individual parts aren't particularly standout but together they make something really quite special.
I really quite like how the electronic? (from the modular synth maybe?) sound carries on into the start of Morning Bell.
Motion Picture Soundtrack is beautiful. I want this one played at my funeral (which hopefully won't be for a little while). Best one in the album for feeling depressed.
I think untitled works a little like Treefingers for decompressing after such songs.
Really yapped a bit for this review but I do love this album. Insane to think that such a masterpiece is very arguably not even Radiohead's best work. a very strong 5/5
