Very nice guitars, lots of diverse sounds. Liked the harmonica bits a lot. Vocals could have been better. Unexpected but appreciated
Think I would have enjoyed this more if I just read the lyrics on their own, which were especially good in sad-eyed lady of the lowlands. I find the actual musicianship uncompelling in modern listening formats, the harmonica is pretty grading. Still need to watch A Complete Unknown
I like when he was like “got my hubububllbllhlblhb working”. Dudes got charisma
Some cool sounds and synths but the songwriting is pretty drab and uninspired. Minimalist in a way that leaves a lot to be desired. Melodramatic in a way that does not land at all. Weird in a way that’s cringy. “Nothing” was great but otherwise not a fan
Really awesome mesh of blues and rock. The riff in dazed and confused is iconic. Jimmy page loves a chromatic walkdown. Lots of fun sequences that keep some of the longer performances entertaining
I really like this album, and the smashing pumpkins in general. Billy corgan’s shrieking “woe is me” voice is not for everyone, but it just clicks for me, probably because I grew up listening to it. Lots of good hard rock and even better sentimental moments like on cupid de locke. My main gripe is that there’s too much filler, which is tolerable in disc 1 but ends up really dragging in disc 2. I usually don’t feel inclined to listen to the full 2 hours, so it ends up being a grab bag of songs, some of which end up being my favorites ever. Throw 1979 on the first disc and just release that and it’s a perfect album for me. The best parts shine bright, but if I’m meeting this album where it’s at, it starts to lose me after tales of a scorched earth
Very definitive sound of the 60’s. Lots of cute love songs, nothing other than butcher’s tale that I was overly impressed with. Butcher’s tale is awesome. I actually think I like chris white’s voice more than colin blunstone’s. Worth a relisten later
Really not in the mood for this. Listened to two songs and got nausea thinking of listening to the rest of it.
Fun live album. Not much else in particular to note. Getting tough to do these 1hr+ sessions, hoping I get some more compact records again soon
Some decent britpop but some of it just came off as perverted. Pencil skirt is an atrocity to mankind. The writing can be clever at some points but it’s just kind of vile overall. The whisper style vocals don’t do it for me at all
What a treat this is. Barebones, but still scratches every musical itch I have. Absolutely going in the rotation. Infectious grooves, creative basslines, really fun incorporation of electronic elements. Ambitious project for the time that pays off so well. LOVE shara nelson in this. Also Free Palestine.
Fun riffs, enjoyed the pacing. More songs I recognized on here than I thought. Overall enjoyable even though they use like 4 chords the entire album
Her voice can get kinda annoying at times, but damn she knows how to scream. I liked how weird the lyrics were. “Pee girl gets the belt” is a particular favorite. Campy but still sincerely feminist. Guitars were great too
Holy shit dude. How do you even manage to get such a compilation of legendary songs in one album. Not only that, the sequencing is phenomenal. Yeah we’re starting out with war pigs and paranoid. Jesus. Even then planet caravan is a great calm before the storm. Every song plays with unique and interesting phrases, and always manages to find its way back to the premise. I played this shit at 7am and now I feel like I took crack before work. AND great storytelling about war. RIP ozzy
Not the same lyrical chops as the height of The Beatles, but still really fun and satisfying tunes. Well put together and an easy listen overall
A historical landmark in jazz, for sure. Is it interesting, captivating? Maybe this is sacrilege, but eh? Quite a lot of talent on display, with some impressive solos. But I guess it didn’t leave much of an impact
Some recognizable songs that are decent, but boy this is really one note. Nothing ever progresses in each song. Also the drums man. The drums are AWFUL. The hats sound like shit. If the point of Ford commercial music like this is to be hell yea brother epic, then it should actually try to be a little more epic
Not my typical sound, but I like this a looot. Combines a lot of elements in an interesting way. Dark, gloomy, indie, noisy. Great hook writing and lyricism. Her vocals fit very well. Creative vision on point, except for the fact that this album is not garbage!
Complete trash. Shit from a butt. Almost puked at some point. Hate his voice. Stupid recommendation. Needed to listen to ben folds as a palate cleanser after this
Some hits, some misses, but consistently has sweet harmonies. Lyrics have not aged well though. Hard to get past that
It’s a real bummer the direction coldplay went. They just can’t seem to create the magic of their first few albums. And I think it has to do with exactly that, they’re TRYING to make a magical experience. It’s paradoxical in a way. But on Parachutes, it seems effortless, the sentimentality is treated as a foundation for the music, not as a deliberate product of it. They’re not aiming to do anything impressive here, the songwriting is very simple, but it’s so tasteful that it only makes sense it’s as timeless as it is. Sparks into yellow…. wow. Such a sweet album, but damn I really hate what this band turned into
Really thought an hour of beastie boys would get tiring, but I was gladly wrong. A boatload of fun packed with referential humor and grandiosity. Maybe could be slimmed down a little, but kept my attention very well the whole time
Fun, enjoyable experience. Interesting genre fusions, good hooks and verses. Liked the classic rock samples. Nothing I was blown away by.
Torn on this, after a slow start the music is pretty compelling. Vocals are laughably bad at first, then they get slightly better but they’re still not really good. I do really like the mid section of this album, but it’s a lot of hits and misses overall. The screaming on Don’t is awful but it’s kinda funny so in a weird way I like it? The desperation of it is relatable too. I’m just perplexed by this. At least it’s not a boring listen!
It accomplished its goal, which was to make me feel empty inside. Experimental but not cohesive.
I’m in a good mood today and this was pleasant. Hell yeah
Torn on this one. Minus anthony kiedis they’re a really talented band but it’s hard to enjoy much else because fuck anthony kiedis. They have a good sound overall, but it’s a very one note album. Under the bridge is sweet, some of the other tracks get old fast. Lyrics aged horribly. Did I say fuck anthony kiedis?
Pleasant. Enjoyed his voice and the orchestration. Not much else to say
Very strong first half but it kinda simmers out. I love pretty much all the songwriting here, it’s very creative. Just wish it carried the energy throughout the whole album. And yeah we do need more silly men.
Really sweet and whimsical. Feels like they’re giving you a nice bedtime story.
Oh yeah THIS is music. Raw instrumentation and storytelling. Love it.
I get blues fatigue pretty easily but I actually enjoyed this. Worth revisiting
Nah, hell with it. This is perfect. This shits for real yearners. Fuck ME this is good shit. Come on
Some interesting the cure-type stuff! A bunch of atypical harmonies that I really enjoyed. Not bad
Sex machine does NOT need to be that long but it’s a cool bluesy album
It’s typical bowie for the most part, maybe less iconic than ziggy stardust, but the ~3 song stretch of atmosphere was really captivating for me in my opinion. And all that into secret life of arabia makes it click SO much more
INSTANT favorite. Thoroughly impressed front to back. Unbelievably raw harmonies, buttery smooth production, diverse styles coalescing into a honest to god masterpiece. WOW I can’t get enough of this. I’m shocked at the mediocre rating this got. Did y’all listen to the same album as I just did?
Inoffensive reggae. Enjoyable
Pretty solid! Short and to the point with memorable licks
Hard to go wrong with really any of fleet foxes discography. Gorgeous album with ethereal harmonies
She has a really awesome voice that kinda gets kneecapped by recording quality. Wish the instruments were more prevalent, I liked the flute parts a lot. Enjoyed the back scratching flea song
Baffling inclusion considering how completely unknown they are, but overall a decent surprise. Very strong start, sorta loses momentum, then picks up on some cool experimentation
I reserve the 1 rating for albums that I can barely listen to. They are albums I physically cannot finish because they are that bad, sometimes even start. This was absolutely one of them. Jesus Christ Almighty
Most reggae is inoffensive at best but this was very enjoyable. Lots of recognizable songs on here
Not bad, makes sense california dreamin was the one that made it out, it’s the most distinct out of all the tracks here. I feel this sound has a weird survivorship bias where all the songs I recognize are the blueprint for this genre and everything else I don’t recognize is a weird offshoot of it - something about them just compositionally doesn’t click as well. Idk
I have this on vinyl and have listened to it countless times. I don’t know how much I can say about this that hasn’t already been said. But Prince just had a magic touch, an air about him, that modern artists fail to recreate. Prince was bound to nothing other than the full potential of his expression and this album is the culmination of it.
The band and female vocalist - awesome, no notes
The dude singer - needs to be tried at the hague
Folky and orchestral, while maintaining rock roots. Beautiful album. Heart of gold, old man, the needle and the damage done
Other than spellbound this did nothing for me. Can respect the art direction but just didn’t click
It’s probably unnecessary to dislike this as much as I do, cause it’s meant to be easy listening. But this feels like the band that plays at a minor league baseball game in your hometown from bumfuck, nowhere. Everyone there is settled with a family, and they are together swaying gently, but deep down thinking, “do these guys know how to play in any key other than G major?”
A nine minute sex song is ridiculous. I’ve never lasted that long in bed, ever.
There’s some really funky stuff on here, hard day was sweet. Kissing a fool is the best song by far. But honestly, I wish he used more of his vocal prowess. There was a lot to be desired on here
Long and experimental, I like the radio motif a lot. Lots of creativity and range on here. It’s a cool experience but not something I would go back to
Admittedly, I hadn’t really done these guys the listening justice they deserve until now. I had only ever been exposed to their hits, and by all means, they are great songs. But I never actually “got” them until now, why they were as legendary as they were. This album opened my eyes. It’s very different than normally what I would associate with albums I rate this high. Although very well done, I don’t think the tracks here are compositional masterpieces, nor lyrical miracles. That’s not the point. It’s the subversion of expectations, the Blackbird into Piggies. The innovative sound, the genre-bending, the pure authenticity, all come together to make for a very charming experience. So much so that will let one neoliberal song slide. You can have your one neoliberal song. That’s okay.
Wow they really pretended
I like the style of guitars here, the fast paced playing is fun. Though there wasn’t a lot of variance between songs, and the lyrics had a lot to be desired. Overall enjoyed
I’ve been saying this for so long, it’s unbelievable how the most famous 3 hits on here aren’t even the best. Not a crying shame or anything, because it’s arguably the greatest album of all time (not in my opinion, but a consensus I will respect), so most people at this point have gone through the whole thing. But dear LORD, there’s some absolute magic here, human nature, PYT, baby be mine. This album made me fall in love with Moog. I love Moog
You know what, he’s growing on me. It took some more intentional listening, but I also enjoyed the fact that he sung more. He has a very pleasant singing voice when he’s not doing *that* cadence as often. Lyrics are beyond impressive as always
Beautiful ballads, legendary vocal talent. Unfortunately also smitten with dull, sanitized pop
Just a really solid, iconic record all around. Super fun, tightly packed. Every time I listen to AC/DC I have to remind myself that it’s not Jack Black singing
This pissed me off. Every time I thought it was going somewhere it ended up being some fuck shit
This is my first exposure to James Taylor, and wow, call me a fan now. So sentimental, his voice and lyrics are very endearing
It’s not bad, but even for a disco record, which is admittedly one of my favorite genres, this is pretty barebones and the energy is mild. Not turned off to it I’ve just heard a lot better
Gorgeous album, incredible voice, my only qualm is I wish it was longer, some of the songs cut off too early and I thought they could have progressed more
Creative, mystical, kinda off-kilter and sloppy but in a way that works for me. Two Doves in particular is beautiful. Impressive guitars and harmonies, sweet orchestral bits
Filled to the brim with classics, grooves that justify an 1hr 15 runtime. Hard to say anything bad about it, just a whole vibe
Alright, I got Scott 4 first, which was tolerable, but damn I couldn’t stand this. The orchestration is really cool but I’m getting sick of his voice. It’s annoying and kinda ruins everything else that I would probably would have enjoyed about this
A lot of mixed feelings here. I enjoy many of the off beat compositions and Bjork’s quirkiness, but it goes a little awry in some places. The best parts shine bright though. Venus as a Boy was written about me, actually
Got some catchy, crunchy tunes, but lacks the sentimentality that drew me into mellon collie.
I guess there’s some cool sounds but the energy felt super off and it didn’t really go anywhere. Big time snoozer
Obviously not as heart wrenching as Blue but still very pretty nonetheless. She incorporates the jazz elements very well into her original style. She remains a very intelligent writer
There’s a few really fun tracks and cool experimentation. I’m not the most fond of his voice, but I can appreciate the style here. A few tracks left a bit to be desired
I know rick beato strokes his shit to this. I sorta get it cause Layla is such a sweet song among some others on here. The blues parts are painfully tedious though. Eric clapton sucks big donkey chodes too
Peak. She totally found her sound here. Shrouded in mysticism and beauty. Her off-kilter voice doesn’t throw me off as much as it did in Debut, in fact it works very well in a lot of points in this album. I also forgot that tiktok sound was pagan poetry but it’s still a fantastic song
This is country to me. I dream a highway is such a gorgeous song. Really loved this
It’s still such a dated sound but at least I could actually get through this one
Definitely liked this one more than the other fatboy slim record, praise you is a classic. Even more experimental but this time with the flow feeling more in place. Still not totally my genre but I respect it
Fuck yes. This is my favorite radiohead album and maybe one of my top 5 albums of all time. It’s so unbelievably raw and packed with emotion. Just in awe every time I listen to it
Really solid, not blown away by any measure, but a consistent groove nonetheless. Respect is obviously the greatest but her voice is magnetic throughout the whole album
There’s cool elements to this, and I understand what they’re going for, but there’s too much space. It loses its groove and it’s stark when it kicks back in, to the point where one time I got absolutely jumpscared. Just a big meh
Ahhhhhh yes. Lovely. Superb
Surprisingly really good. Fun energy, good hooks and guitar lines
Yeah this rips actually. Super catchy, awesome guitar work
Immediately clocked this guy as some sort of weird pedo before I listened or knew anything about him. And I was right so I will not be entertaining this
Some of it felt too stripped back, but other moments were pretty ethereal. Not bad
Chemistry on point, harmonies on point, a big ole yes for me on this album
