This album is a great example of what makes this activity fun. There was a lot more to this record than I expected. I probably wouldn’t have ever given it much of a chance otherwise, but it was very enjoyable.
Just really not a Radiohead fan.. This album especially is very wainy and drags on. There are few good songs, I actually do really enjoy the intro track, probably one of my favorite Radiohead songs, but there isnt much after that IMO.
Rediscovered 'Friends' on this re-listen!
Celebration Day is a fun, energetic song.
'Since I've Been Loving You' might be my favorite Zeppelin song!
Tangerine and Gallows Pole are both great as well. I enjoy the more acoustic/softer vibes on this album.
Intro: Not sure this is going to be my vibe! But i normally listen to my album while working so this may actually boost some productivity
I enjoyed listening to this record more than I expected! Not really my style but something I could potentially circle back to while working or needing an energy boost. Appreciate the art!
Love some 90s hip-hop. Solid album. There are better, there are worse.
Of course the first two songs on this record are classics! The rest of the album really held up much more than I expected. Love the themes and messages across the whole album. I really wanted to give this album a 5, but felt like there were a few skips so I ended up giving a 4.
Jamming!
No lyrics after the first song ?
Interesting how polarizing the reviews of this record are! I am enjoying it, i feel like it is one of those that in the right time and place to listen it is awesome. While working, doing stuff around the hours, having on as background is great!
I appreciate the artistic expression and its the type of band i would love to see live.
Never really heard of this band or album going into listening.
Up tempo!
Solid intro
Listened through Alright - definitely a song I recognize but never realized this is the band.
Really like the start of this album - all of the songs so far are catchy and I like the tempo of the album.
Enjoyed 'Shees so Loose"
"Time" is a fun one! A little change up compared to other tracks.
There are a lot of fun and catchy songs up and down the album! Just as good as some other British bands I have heard more about. I appreciate the energy the band plays with and I like some of the samples at beginning of songs etc. Will certainly look to listen to this one again.
Listening to The Bends after listening to Supergrass and having recently listened to Hail to the Thief as well. Going into listening, I feel like I typically am not a huge fan of Radiohead compared to what their hype is.
The Bends is a jam. Solid jam band sound. I don't always love Yorke's whiny, drawn out vocals.
High and Dry is of course one of Radiohead's most famous songs. Its good, its fine, its solid. A good song. Nothing special.
Enjoyed Bones! Saved to my rock playlist
(Nice Dream) was boring
Just is good! Brings back some energy
Bullet Proof again just kind of boring - I don't think the spacey, electronic post-grunge sound on a lot of the songs on this record is for me
Overall, not terrible. Just has moments that are really boring imo. Still a few jams mixed in there but not consistent enough for me.
This record really grew on me as I listened. Definitely expected to be giving this one a 2/3, but the album just kept getting better. A lot of catchy and vibey songs. If I would have listened on a hot summer day with a joint it might have gotten 5*!
Really enjoyed listening to this. Album sounded really good all the way through, no major lulls or skips.
Enjoyed reading about the history of the album. Love that wikipedia links are readily available. It makes me try to imagine what it would be like listening to an album like this for the first time.
I believe this is also the first album I have had recommended that has alternating lead singers. I saw some folks reviewing that the songs w/ Grace Slick are significantly better than those w/ Spencer Dryden, but I disagree. The jazzy sound of In The Morning is one of my favorite spots on the album. The peaks of the record certainly feature Slick, but Dryden holds up his end of the bargain. Making this a really enjoyable record!
One of the best records of all time!
When I saw this record was just 15 minutes I expected to think this was interesting or whatever, rate it a 2 or 3 and move on. But I actually really appreciated this album and what it offers. Certainly the epitome or punk rock! It is creative and raw. The whole point of punk is doing whatever the fuck you want. As another reviewer wisely said: if you can't get your point across in 31 seconds, then you should just pack it up and go home.
Appreciate the energy of the record and some of the jams! There is better rock music out there for sure.
IDK man, I don't like being a hater but... I have never really been much into the rave scene so maybe I just don't appreciate the art. The rap portions sound like something kids from my high school would make for the talent show.
There are few moments later in the album that I can appreciate. Emphasis on a few. I am sure I would appreciate them more with a little ecstasy or molly...
For anyone that was in high school in 2012 when this record was released, this is probably one of the most recognizable albums released during those years.
Frank Ocean has a unique psychadelic, R&B sound that meshes excellently with a late summer night and a joint.
The album has some of the most recognizable and unique songs and beats of any album. There are moments where I find myself sining along and others where I just vibe to the feeling of the song. Going into listening I expected to give this a 5 but I ended up going with a 4 because I feel like there some fat on the album and a few moments that lull. Its rare that an album would get 5s if it had multiple skips, as I think this album does.
This album would probably also go in the Hall of Fame of most polarizing based on the other reviews haha.
Really enjoyed this record. I appreciate the run time, only 33 minutes. It is packed with jams, groovy and funking tracks, and enjoyable lyrics. A unique sound with also some of the most recognizable rock songs in Born on the Bayou and Proud May. This record quickly went on my most wanted list to add to my Vinyl collection. I also really enjoyed Graveyard Train, I appreciate a good 7 minute song.
I won't dock points for making everyone think these guys were from the south even though they were all born in Berkely... Whats up with that?
The second half of this record was much better than the first. The first was too chaotic for me. I prefer the smoooooth jazz style that was featured on side 2.
Off to a strong start with the intro Be-In. Love me a good 6 minute jam
The intro and outro of this record are great! I love that the record is bookended by long, instrument jams.
I had never heard of this band even though I am from the Portland area (embarrassing, i know) and I really enjoyed listening to this.
Sooo generic. The type of music that would be featured on One Tree Hill or something like that.
The album kind of got repetitive and ran on. But the first half had some fun jams and beats. Appreciate the goal and message of the album, even if the religious content became a little much at times.
I enjoy Amy's soothing jazz sound. Obviously very sad that she was never able to live up to her potential. This is an enjoyable album for sure, but it lacks that extra level that other 4-5 star albums have.
Reminds me of car rides with my mom as a kid! Take it easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling are classics. I also discovered Nightingale on this listen.
Doesn't quite have the 5 star juice, but is comfortably a 4 star record.
Rock and roll baby! Some jams on this one
Not my favorite Zeppelin record but still easily a 5 star worthy record. They were on another level.
I understand that the album is technically impressive from a musical standpoint. But I found the songs to be uninteresting and boring. It grew on me a little bit upon the second and third listen. Not something I see myself going back to much.
If Freedom! '90 is the best song on this record this might end up getting 1 star.
Good stuff man good stuff. Got better and better the each time I listened. The first two songs stuck with me the first listen, but as I listened a few more times, I was appreciating the tracks up and down the record more and more.
The record is full of fun moments. Thought the trumpet on Keep the Customer Satisfied was executed nicely. A botched trumpet solo can kill an album, but I think their use of the instrument on this song added a great moment to the record.
The storytelling and song writing is great also!
Going into listening very familiar with their top three songs Time to Pretend, Kids, and Electric Feel. Three songs that could very easily make it onto the 'soundtrack of my life.' Songs that are certainly still in rotation for me! We will see how the rest of the record holds up.
This album is certainly help up by their three most popular songs. I also enjoyed Weekend Wars, but other than that the rest of the album really falls flat and does not live up to the high ceiling of those tracks. How many stars are those three songs worth? They are truly bangers. They would be top choices for a drive out to the lake with the windows rolled down in July. I am going with 3 stars.
That smooooooth jazz baby. Really enjoyed the easy listening of this. A few trumpet moments that were a little piercing to ear, which docked it a star. But overall really enjoyed.
This record sounded great! But where is the rest of it?! Potential is a great thing to have when you're young, but not so great to have when you're old.
