A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield

Listenable but doesn't really do anything interesting.

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Mar 02 2026

Interesting narrative driven songs (lyrics wise) Stand out track was "i", could probably listen to as an album again Not my favourite genre so difficult to give an unbiased rating 3.5/5

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Mar 03 2026

Interesting lyrics but not an enjoyable listen for me, the vocals are essentially spoken word and the instrumental section did nothing of interest

Murmur by R.E.M.
Mar 04 2026

Unmistakable REM sound, I enjoyed the instrumentation on this record, but the mix made the vocals sound a little bit muddy. Personally I enjoyed the second half of the album more than the first, the stand out song for me was Shaking Through. Overall this is a decent debut album but it didn’t blow me away. 3.5/5

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Mar 05 2026

Separating art from artist here, this is a fantastic album, I really like the way the skits break up the album. My stand out songs were Spaceship and Jesus Walks

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Mar 06 2026

I was not hugely knowledgeable about Billy Joel outside of some of his biggest hits, so this is my first time listening to an entire album of his. This Album is a wall to wall banger for me, it has the perfect balance of fun upbeat tunes and more thoughtful songs like Vienna and she’s always a woman. Yes some of the lyrics are a bit cheesy, but that adds to the fun, I enjoyed this album so much I’m gonna get it on vinyl. I also think it’s the perfect length for an album (45 minutes), I find the longer the album the more likely you are to find filler, this album has no skips for me. Favoutite track is The Stranger ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Blur by Blur
Mar 07 2026

The only song worth listening to on this album is song 2, the rest of this album is an in-cohesive mess, I actually had to pause it multiple times during Essex Dogs it was that bad to listen to Would give this a zero if I could

Mar 08 2026

My original rating was 3, bumping this to a 4 after a re-listen and embracing more of Dylan's discography

Treasure by Cocteau Twins
Mar 09 2026

Cocteau Twins - Tressure ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I quite liked the instrumental elements on this record but I really wasn’t a fan of the lyrics and vocals here, I’d probably rate this 3.5/5, I had a listen to some of their hits and preferred them to this album, I think this album was a little bit too artsy for me.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Mar 10 2026

I wanted to give this album a higher rating, but I feel like there’s a decent amount of filler on here. The sound of this album is pure 90s Britain, Bitter Sweet Symphony is a classic but I’m going to give my standout track to Lucky Man, I enjoyed the lyrics on the majority of these tracks but the music started to feel repetitive about half way through the album. Would listen to again if I was in the mood for some Brit pop but don’t think I’ll be rushing back to this one.

xx by The xx
Mar 11 2026

It was nice to have on in the background while I’m working, other than that this Album left no lasting impression on me, other than recognising the opening track as it’s been used in countless British TV dramas. 2.5/5 - boring

Quiet Life by Japan
Mar 13 2026

To quote Patrick Bateman, this was a “little too, ‘new wave’ for my taste”. This one wasn’t for me, not a fan of the vocals and it just didn’t do anything interesting for me, was happy for it to be over.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Mar 14 2026

I’m surprised how much I enjoyed this, I’ve never really listened to Jazz and wasn’t looking forward to trying this. I can see how this was considered revolutionary at the time, the musicianship here is top notch, I would say my favourite track is either Spanish key or Miles runs the voodoo down. It misses out on one star for the fact that it’s not something I’ll be adding to my regular rotation at this point, but if I’m in the mood for Jazz, I’d definitely give this another play.

Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal
Mar 15 2026

I’m certainly no fan of Grime and this has done nothing to change my mind on the genre, was very happy for this one to be over and done with.

Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo
Mar 16 2026
Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Mar 17 2026

Really enjoyed the instrumentation on this album, it misses out on an extra star as I wasn’t really a big fan of the vocals or lyrics, but I’ll definitely be listening to some more of their albums. On further reflection, I’ve come back to this album quite a few times, so I’m promoting it to 5 stars

Club Classics Vol. One by Soul II Soul
Mar 18 2026

Definitely not my usual genre to listen to but this was a decent listen, quite relaxing to listen to while working but probably wouldn’t seek it out again, a solid 3 star album.

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers
Mar 19 2026

This is barely scraping a 3, really liked the instrumentation but the vocalist had a really annoying voice paired with poor lyrics.

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
Mar 20 2026

This is music for the type of person who thinks WWE is real.

Smash by The Offspring
Mar 21 2026

Really enjoyed this album, it feels like a blend of punk, metal and grunge, I’d give this a 4.5/5, I’m debating rounding this up to a full 5 as I can see this just sneaking into my regular rotation. Favourite track: Gotta Get Away.

The Only Ones by The Only Ones
Mar 22 2026

Easy listening but pretty unremarkable for the most part, Another Gr, Another Planet is the stand out track by a big margin.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Mar 27 2026
Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Mar 28 2026

This is my second Dylan album on this challenge, I’ve got to say I preferred it a lot more than the first album I listened to, I’m debating giving this a full 5 stars, will give it another play to be sure, my favourite track is a toss between Idiot wind and Tangled Up in Blue

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
Apr 01 2026

I have an undeniable urge to drive on the Autobahn.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Apr 06 2026

I really enjoyed this album, I’m familiar with some of CCR’s albums, I don’t think this is there best, but Fogerty’s vocals are peak 1960’s Americana, makes you want to sit by a swamp and drink a few beers with your mates.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Apr 07 2026

This is one of those albums where I feel out of touch with most of the reviews, I really wasn’t a fan of this, I’m not hugely into Jazz to begin with, so maybe this is lost on me, I just found it a bit of a mess of instruments.

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Apr 15 2026

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this album, I can’t comment on the lyrics as I don’t speak French, but the instrumentation is top notch, a solid album

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Apr 28 2026
69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
May 15 2026

No album needs to be this long

Low by David Bowie
May 17 2026

Really enjoyed the first half of the album but the second half of the album lost me, I'll give this a 3/5

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
May 29 2026

You know what, Elvis Costello gets some hate on here, but this was a solid listen, maybe I'm in a generous mood, it gets a 4

Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen
May 31 2026
Gris Gris by Dr. John
Jun 04 2026

The instrumentals were pretty ok, but the vocals and chanting totally ruined any chance this album had, it gets a 2 out of generosity Actually, on second thought, it gets a 1 as I was so relieved to finish this album

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Jun 05 2026

I’d give this a solid 4/5, it misses out on 5 stars because it feels like there’s something missing that stops this from being really memorable, Keith Richards guitar work is phenomenal though

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jun 06 2026

This is sitting on a knife’s edge between a 3&4, it’s enjoyable enough, pretty standard blues rock, but it does feel a bit long and not much of a variety between tracks.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jun 10 2026
Jun 13 2026

Easiest 5 stars I’ve given so far, I can’t pick any flaws with this album, probably one of my favourite live album.

Debut by Björk
Jun 14 2026

I was quite skeptical going into this, but I've got to say I enjoyed this quite a bit, her voice is really powerful and the music is certainly unique, though having said that, this isn't something I can see myself listening to as part of my regular rotation, I'd have to be in the mood to listen to this again, I'll give it a 4/5

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Jun 15 2026

Wasn't a huge fan of this, the vocalist wasn't great and the album cover honestly gave me the creeps.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
Jun 16 2026

Pretty Meh about this one, it was listenable, New Wave just isn’t my thing, only highlight was Strangelove, as I recognised the opening from The Fast & The Furious

Jun 17 2026

I don’t think I’ve heard a more repetitive album in my life, only 2 songs in and it felt like I’d been listening for at least half an hour, I’m going to spare this a 1 as it is listenable, but once you’ve heard 2 or 3 tracks you get the gist of the album

We're Only In It For The Money by The Mothers Of Invention
Jun 18 2026

I was excited for a split second thinking I’d got The Beetles, instead I got whatever this is, just a bit of a mess of an album, there are some light hearted tracks on this so I’ll give it a 2, but it barely gets a 2

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Jun 19 2026

Listenable but doesn't really do anything interesting.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Jun 20 2026

Pretty inoffensive, not gonna be running back to this

Jun 22 2026

Far too long, packed full of filler, was happy for this one to draw to a close, the music wasn’t bad, just too much bang average songs, this did not need to be a double album

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Jun 23 2026

A solid Brit pop album, I was already familiar with their biggest hit “alright”, this album has aged really well, but I feel like it’s missing something which leaves this with a solid 4 stars

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jun 24 2026

This is a really solid album, I enjoyed the variety it brings by featuring a couple of different artists, a lot of the songs feel unique, it misses out on 5 stars because I’ve heard You Can Call Me Al so many times I find it quite an annoying track now

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Jun 25 2026

Did I understand the lyrics? No. Was it still a fun listen? Definitely Really enjoyed this one, perfect to listen to while we have a heat wave in the UK

Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings
Jun 26 2026

Listenable but not really my thing

Dummy by Portishead
Jun 27 2026

Really wasn’t a fan of this and was surprised it’s been rated so highly, I feel like I needed a course of sertaline after listening to this

Spiderland by Slint
Jun 28 2026

How on earth did this make the list? This was painful to listen to, virtually no enjoyment here.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Jun 30 2026

This was an exceptional surprise to me, the musicianship here is really top notch! A few of the songs oddly reminded me of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, this is why I started this project!

Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction
Jul 01 2026

This didn't do much for me, it was fine to listen to but wouldn't rush back to listen again

Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
Jul 02 2026

Interesting pop album but honestly I wouldn’t listen to it again, but I’ll give it credit for trying to do something different

Jul 03 2026

God that was boring, how did a soundtrack/score make it on the list? Without context it makes it a lot harder to give a proper rating

Back In Black by AC/DC
Jul 04 2026

AC/DC are a band that made many great songs, but I feel like they never put out a truly great album, this is about as close as they got. The band found a formula and stuck to it for most of there careers, however the Brian Johnson era definitely has a more bluesy feel compared to the Bon Scott albums, This is so close to being a 5 star album to me, if nothing else due to Nostalgia as AC/DC were my introduction to rock as a teen

Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 05 2026

Pretty boring really, I’ve had 3 or 4 Elvis Costello albums at this point (130 ish albums in) and don’t understand why there are so many, once you’ve heard one, none of the others do anything wildly different, this is ok to listen to but nothing more than that

Jul 06 2026

This wasn’t for me, but I can appreciate the instrumentation is pretty good

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Jul 07 2026

Jimi is another artist who wrote some incredible songs, but didn’t always have incredible albums, there’s lots to enjoy here, but also a good chunk of filler, I’m gonna give this a 4, standout track is All along the watchtower, makes me want to ride a Huey through the jungles of Nam

Like A Prayer by Madonna
Jul 08 2026

This was an ok listen, I’m not a huge pop fan but this was an ok, pretty bold to open your album with a song about sucking dick

Roots by Sepultura
Jul 09 2026

Absolutely hated the vocals on this, the instrumentation saves it from getting a 1

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Jul 10 2026

This was enjoyable enough, but the amount of filler on this album stops it getting a 4/5

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Jul 11 2026

This could honestly be a greatest hits type of album looking at the track list, easy 5 star album, one of the all time great pop records

Fun House by The Stooges
Jul 12 2026

Some really solid instrumentation on this record, definitely on the experimental side of rock, the things that stop this getting a 5 are the vocals weren’t great and the last song was a mess of instruments with no real focus

Hms Fable by Shack
Jul 13 2026

This doesn’t really do anything groundbreaking, was ok as background music while I worked, not memorable to me

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Jul 14 2026

Easy 5 stars, a true Metal classic The Number of the Beast is the first Maiden album with Bruce Dickinson on vocals, I’d argue it’s also a transitional album as the band moved from away from the punk elements of the first two albums. I’d say the only filler track here is Gangland, all the other tracks are staples in Maidens catalog. Hallowed be thy name is also what I would consider to be Maidens best song, I never get tired of it.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jul 15 2026

Pretty solid album, really good blend of psych and blues rock, but Janis Joplins vocals aren’t really for me.

White Ladder by David Gray
Jul 16 2026

The only way I can describe this is bland, this is like eating boiled chicken breast with rice and broccoli, devoid of anything that sparks enjoyment

One World by John Martyn
Jul 17 2026

Bit of a strange album, the musicianship is good but the album doesn’t really feel focused in any way, which leaves it feeling a bit flat

Melodrama by Lorde
Jul 18 2026

I usually dislike modern pop, this was decent but didn’t really leave a lasting impression on me

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Jul 20 2026

An okay listen but a bit long, all the songs seemed to merge into one by the end

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Jul 21 2026

I’ve always found Bruce Springsteen quite boring, this album did nothing but enforce that opinion

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Jul 25 2026

Really enjoyed the instrumentals but Jesus Christ the lyrics are cringe, if you’re gonna do an album framing yourselves as anti capitalist, at least stick to that throughout your career.
