1001 Albums Summary

I had no idea how weird and noisy this would be. I really liked it and thought it would make an excellent sci-fi soundtrack. I just couldn’t take the misogyny and so much “fist my bitch” lyrics. It’s hard to separate art from the artist when said artist is basically crazy. People say this is genius

Pretty classic early 60’s soul. I prefer Dusty in Memphis but this is her big hits record. As I listen I found myself singing along because all these songs are buried in my head from listening to 1970s pop radio

Ugh I hate early aughts indie rock. This sounds like background Starbucks music or a montage scene in a bad Netflix movie.

Can I give this 10 stars? One of my favorite records of all time. I saw them on this tour with Dinosaur Jr. and I couldn’t hear for days. Loudest show I’ve ever seen

Their best record before they became a staple of classic rock radio. Dangerous and dirty Southern Rock that feels like you might get knifed in a back alley. Poison Whiskey is a lost classic

Deeply nostalgic memories of the 1970s swirl around this one. In the 80’s it was cool for punk rockers to hate this kind of music but after reading that Sonic Youth were big fans my opinion softened up. Kim Gordo. References Karen many times in her work and listening to the lyrics they are all kind of dark and unhappy. Weird for bubblegum soft rock. Considering she starved herself to death I think she was filled with pain that no one understood. I just wish it was more 60’s folky and less 70’s violins and breezy production

I kinda hate this at the time but over the years my opinions have softened. Weird eclectic witch women were never my thing but now I’m kind of drawn to them. I like the avant-garde music but her voice is somewhat grating. Oh well she’s cool

No one else liked this but I’ve always duv his baroque pop. His later stuff gets darker and closer to Leonard Cohen but this was the tail end of his pop years

Interesting. Noisy, trance inducing kinda-jazz. I’d say I liked it but grew bored by the fourth song. Not sure how this qualifies as an album I must hear before i die but I didn’t hate it. Not quite Starbucks music but definitely background or soundtrack music

One of the great pastoral hippie rock records of all time just all around cool vibes from Dylan’s backing band.

The best Furs era before teeny bop MTV

The best Brit Pop. England’s answer to Pavement offering up sardonic and sarcastic anti-rock. Peak 90’s ennui and slacker vibes all around

U2 imitators doing a bad job imitating u2

I loved this at the time, saw them live and was blown away but they were unable to sustain any momentum due to hard drugs and the music industry moving on in the late 90’s. I always wonder what would have happened if they stayed together

Everyone knows my opinions about Bowie. Every day I have a favorite recording by him. Today Station To Station is the greatest of all time. It probably will be again tomorrow
