Was never exposed to Velvet Underground, first time hearing this album, liked it a lot, reminded me of smooth Beatles
Depressing. Not for me
Was always a fan of Bowie, this album not so much
Tiny Dancer and Levon are deep in my memory, the rest of the album, not so much. Will always be a sucker for piano. Did not know Rick Wakeman played organ on Rotten Peaches, The best start somewhere.
Three member band of bass, electric guitar and drums. Little Wing and Castles made of Sand stand out. Mitch Mitchell ranked 8 out of 100 best drummers, no doubt. Noel Redding on bass, impressive. Hendrix, well, Hendrix had a style like no other, though I liked Are You Experienced way better. Still remember the day he died, driving around on a Sunday, so high, so sad.
Love the One You're With is the best song on this album, though many of the others are very good, simply because they are electric guitar, bass, keyboard and drums, clearly defined, distinct, not ugly noise like some of the albums of 1001 albums .. Stephen Stills was best with Crosby, Nash and Young, but there were feuds and power plays going on. Still, for not having heard this album from 1970 back then, I heard it now and liked most of it.
One of my favorite albums, along with Bare Trees. Classic rock
Recognized one song, the rest was new to me. Wasn't crazy about it
Smooth, easy listening, never heard of this band but I was pleasantly surprised.
First time hearing this band, really liked the album. Vocals reminded me of Mick Jagger on a couple songs, tight guitar, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, so many sounds, multiple instruments, hypnotizing beats, moving chorals. Impressive
Liked the Pyramid Song for the piano, Amnesiac for the percussion, and Life in a Glasshouse for the horns, piano, real music, not synthesized to death like the rest of the album. The whiny, flat, off key vocals were depressing and just plain irritating.
Tried to like this album, hoped every song would be better than the last. Was disappointed. Finally liked the last one, Shortcomings. Too much synthesized noise. Boring vocals with no range, sounded like the same 2 alternating notes were sung, no melody whatsoever. Only real instrument I could hear were drums and they were excellently played. Keyboards were heard a few times. Give me my 45 minutes back.
Though jazz has never been a favorite genre of mine, I was aware of this album's critical acclaim among those who appreciate it. I finally heard this album after all these years. For me, it's the connection to John McLaughlin and Mahavishnu Orchestra that's meaningful. I can hear and appreciate the snippets throughout that influenced Inner Mounting Flame, and Birds of Fire. Miles Davis galvanized the movement of fusing rock and jazz.
Vocals are gutteral screaming, guitars and drums are skilled. Sounds like a neo Nazi hate rally. Not for me. The reviews do not disappoint!
I really liked this, having never heard it before'--solid guitar, bass, drums, vocals. After listening to that garbage sh*t yesterday, (napalm death/scum) this was like Yeah!
Tried to like this, just, nope.
This album won a Grammy, who knew. I didn't like every song but liked most of them. I look forward to hearing more Prince albums on this site.
Every song had a promising start, guitars, bass, drums, great beats, had me movin', then the vocals ruined the vibe. Every single time.
Not bad, pretty good. Not good enough to listen to ever again. Why is there no Eminem on this list?
Not the worst, no where near the best, won't listen to it ever again
Can't handle the vocals
I like this!
So I just learned yesterday that Clapton was with the Yardbirds way back, I remember Cream and Derek and the Dominos. This album is okay. Was never a fan of I Shot the Sheriff, still not. Let it Grow was good, reminded me of Blind Faith. Hard to forgive his racism and anti science beliefs.
Maybe I'll give it another try.
Favorite track : Rooster
Learned about this band watching Mike Starr struggle on Celebrity Rehab in 2010. First time listening to the album, liked it. RIP Mike
Knew of the Smiths, hadn't heard this album before today, liked it!
I have always liked Tom Petty--he had so many excellent songs and albums, why his first album was chosen for this list is beyond me.
1001 stars.
Tom Sawyer and Limelight 5 stars, the rest, 4 stars
Started out ok, went downhill from there. 2 stars
Liked this
Acoustic guitar, smooth vocals 5
1001 stars
Smooth, nice beat, got tired of it before the end of the album
Irritating garbage noise. Shit vocals ruin any guitar or drum efforts. Zero stars
5 stars
Had only heard Illegal Smile before today. Thoroughly enjoyed this album, the lyrics, pedal steel guitar, slide guitar, piano/keyboards. Five stars. Lyrics relevant in 1971, even more so in 2026, sadly.

Puzzling why this project has left out these artists from this genre: Arlo Guthrie, John Denver, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Brown. Glad this one made the cut.
I didn't mind this, surprisingly I listened to the whole album. Though I prefer the synthesized electronics of Yes, the Who, and ELP. 3 stars
Masterpiece.Favorite tracks Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell.
The reviews are entertaining and informative. I couldn't separate the artist from the music. His relationship with his wife started when she was 13, he was 27. Creepy. Zero stars
Brutal, graphic lyrics and mediocre vocals that overpower any musicality. For someone who had a coffee table book "Encyclopedia of Serial Killers", not impressed. Zero stars
Pink Floyd debut album! 1967! I love hearing where it all started, the beginnings of where it evolved--they were so far ahead of the rest--cutting edge-- already, in 1967! Syd Barrett was only 21. 5 stars❤️
First time listening to this disco album. Liked it! Recognized le freak from back in the day. Least favorite track was the first one but was still not bad. Bass, piano, vocals, drums, white violins were cool. 5 stars
Never heard of this band, liked the album up until You Can't Quit Me Baby, then I lost interest in the rest of the songs(5), though I tried to get through them, just kept advancing to the next before they finished. 4 stars since the positive outweighed the not so positive.
Ok, not great, not bad, just ok. 3 stars
Easy listening. Liked it. 4 stars
Was never a big fan of Genesis. Jethro Tull, Yes, King Crimson were more my thing. After reading a lengthy and detailed review of this album, I listened to it and I liked it. 4 stars
Got through 75 % of this and bailed. It takes skill and talent, no doubt, just not for me. 3 stars
4 stars
Yes yes yes yes yes 5 stars
Since the reviews indicated the album was lengthy, I listened to it while paging through "One Thousand Recordings to Hear Before You Die" which I just got from the library. Still shaking my head that Lady Gaga is omitted from it as well as this site. What the actual f*ck? I liked this album though. 5 stars
Not bad, not the best. 2 stars
I liked this album, though Losing My Religion and Everybody Hurts were my favorites, not on this album. 4 stars
Though I was a Beatles fan by age 10, it was my high school boyfriend, Tom, who introduced me to the best music of the late 60s and early 70s. Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, The Who, Cream/Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, many other great bands and the Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa. I remembered nothing of this album, listened to it while multitasking this morning--until Mother People. I can still hear Tom singing "Do you think that I'm creepy?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Now I need to listen to this album again! The album cover is hilariously outrageous, Lee Harvey Oswald is there. 4 stars for the nostalgia

I gave it another listen and the only other song that was familiar was The Idiot Bastard Son. 4 stars it is.
I'd never heard of this artist before. I liked the album--3 stars

Uh, no. Some days I roll with it, other days, what the actual f*ck? I scream for all the albums and artists in my vinyl, cassette tapes, 8tracks, cds, mp3 playlists that are not included in this list of 1001 albums. Like, why this and not ANY of those others 🤬
3 stars
I liked this album. Good thing, since there are 4 more on this site from this artist. 3 stars
2 stars
In 1969 I was listening to anything but this artist, never heard of him, but that's not to say that listening to him now, I'm okay with the vocals, the lyrics, the instrumentation that is reminiscent of the sounds of boring music of the status quo and mainstream america at the time, like something my parents would have listened to on TV. It's easy listening. 2 stars
Wasn't aware of this artist, lengthy Wikipedia page, far from ideal childhood, turmoil, upheaval, and yet he persevered, graduated college, struggled with alcohol, drugs, depression, and tragically died from stab wounds at 34. I liked this album, favorite track Cupids Trick. 3 stars
I thought I would hate this but I was wrong. Liked it a lot, only tracks I could do without, Primal scream-Kowalski and Stuka. The rest of it, 4 stars
I liked this well enough, 3 stars
Liked it well enough 3 stars
Welp. I knew it was only a matter of time before a Frank Sinatra album popped up, since there are 3 of them on this site. He comes from a much simpler time, like comparing preschool to doctorate level education. He was a vocalist. I enjoyed the background music more than what the vocalist contributed. Every song sounds the same. Boring and tedious. Fingernails on a chalkboard have more going on than this. I got more out of his Wikipedia page than listening to the album. Just ick. Zero stars.
Was aware of this band but none of the songs were familiar. I liked it, high energy, driving force guitars, drums, vocals. 4 stars
Soulful, melancholy vocals, minimal accompaniment.
3 stars
5 stars. Love this album, now I need to listen to Revolver.
Just...not...in... the...mood... for...this. zero stars
I didn't mind this and I would probably like it more if I listened to it again. I liked In The End first time hearing it. 2 stars
The reviews prepared me for something miserable. Shockingly I liked this well enough, not like some of the questionable choices we are presented daily (Sinatra 🤮) solid 2, maybe 3 stars
Ho hum. Another album I can live without. 1 star.
18 songs, I liked 4. The band was great, the vocals not so much. 2 stars
Nope, no thanks,
