Hot Buttered Soul
Isaac HayesGood, but his waffle on the final track gets on my tits too much to rate higher than that
Good, but his waffle on the final track gets on my tits too much to rate higher than that
Wankus
Somehow manages to be angry and dull. Nothing Compares is a banger though obvs
I feel like this should have been higher as technically it fits into my wheelhouse of noisey, sludgey rock and pop but the singers voice irritated me so much I can't score higher than 2.
Utter cack
Bloody loved it. Perfect blend of early 90's British indie, American alt rock and the 60's. Immediately added to my favourite albums playlist.
Enough funk to sustain but I wanted much less random chattery faff and much more actual funky music
Better than I thought. Couple of great tracks and the rest were well crafted easy listening tunes. Largely forgettable but enough quality in the great tracks to make the album good rather than average.
I don't really 'get' country, I seem to exclusively only like Johnny Cash. This was alright, I didn't like it but didn't actively dislike it either. Mercifully short at 27 minutes. I'm writing this 5 minutes after the album has finished and with the exception of We Had It All I have already forgotten the songs.
Really good and really raw. The actual version at least, the iggy remix in 96 is stupid. Apparently a marmite album too.
Started off enjoyable but quickly got a bit bored as every song essentially sounds the same. If this was an EP just consisting of the A Side it'd easily be a 4. But its not, so its not.
Enjoyed this a lot, I quite like prog rock on the whole but normally get irritated by its pompous nonsense, this album leans more into pop than 'bloat' though so was much better. Dreamer is still a shitty track though
I was surprised by my enjoyment of this. First song was the standout. Vocals shouty obviously but not to the point where its incomprehensible guff
Bored me to tears from start to finish. Background music at best
Good enough but lacked the emotional connection of Dummy. Apparently lightning does not strike twice. Disappointed overall due to expectations.
Enjoyable, bit too twee and naff in places but good overall
Loved it, hooked me from start to finish. Dissonant and odd. Apparently the granddaddy of the Math Rock and Post Rock genres which I'm a fan of so no surprise I enjoyed it
Enjoyed most of the songs but jesus 70 minutes, come on Jarvis!
Good, could probably end up being a 4
Quality album written by a dude who knew he was dying. Sad and awesome at the same time.
Am quite a big Dylan fan anyway, always thought I preferred his rock stuff more than his folk stuff but this is really good. Lacked the emotional connection of Cohen so not a 5 star record but still ace.
Enjoyable but I expected more from an album listed as Shoegaze/Dream Pop
You know what you're getting withna Tina Turner album. Well crafted catchy pop with the odd belter.
Quality, I like jazz i find it fascinating because the musicianship is ridiculous. Its stupidly long though, halve it and im looking at a 5*
Utter cack
Its a great album. Fun, catchy pop rock
Really enjoyable
90's East Coast Hip Hop, yes please
Was ok, couple of songs I enjoyed but the rest were mostly a bit dull
Good but nowhere near their best
Fairly dull, slurry folk
Better than I thought it would be, In Every Dream Home A Heartache is a banger
Good but I found it a bit dull in places, plus way too long
Almost every song is a foot tapper and really good, just not special enough to bump it up to a 5
Was decent, not amazing but not terrible. Kept me entertained
Ridiculous in length. If its 40 minutes I'm happily looking at a 3 but a near 3 hour album is just bonkers
Loved it, second half tailed off a bit though sadly. As close to a 5 without being one.
Really good, enjoyed this much more than I thought i would
A lot better than I thought it would be, dropped a 2 in the middle as it got a bit wishy washy but a solid 3 ending tracks pulled it back up again
Depeche Mode innit
Somehow manages to be angry and dull. Nothing Compares is a banger though obvs
His first jazz fusion album. Better length than Bitches Brew but not as inventive hence just shy of 5 again
Thought he was a bit bland in 1999 and I think he's a bit bland in 2021
Good enough for a 3. Closer to 2 than 4 granted but the use of brass and none standard 60's rock and roll instruments gave it a lot more interest than I thought going in
Apparently I find roxy music a bit dull. Second 2 for them
Meh, it existed and I didn't hate it
A bit too samey on the whole to be more than a 3. At least 4 quality tracks though.
Surprisingly good. Voice of King Louis from the jungle book too. Perfect length, would have begun to grate if it was much longer I think
The best album this list has churned up so far by a very long way. Its so good I forgive the length and the interludes.
Eh, it was alright. His voice has never bothered me as I like the velvet underground but most of the songs were just a bit naff
Public Enemy are always reliably ace
Decent bit of jangle pop
I'm an oasis fan and this is their best album. No brainer
Bit lengthy but I thought this was good overall
Decent, enjoyable frantic energy. Essentially 6 different versions of Ace of Spades really so not a huge amount of variety for bigger scores.
Thought this was decent to be honest, touch samey but good enough
Not sure what's happened here, last time I listened to this it bored me. Today though it clicked, don't know why. Just did.
Quality, Ray Charles is an OG baller
Entertaining enough, nothing to make me love it but nothing for me to moan about either
Fairly tedious, never a massive fan of guitar noodling albums
Surprised myself by how much I enjoyed this
Love it, always have, amazing album
Strong start, then from Girlfriend onwards its naff until the final song. 2
Enjoyable Samba boppery
Fully forgettable and too long. Not bad though just meh
Sadly the same as the last funk album on here, couple of great tracks but around 60% faff and nonsense. Cholly and Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock are ace though.
Good Bowie album, not my favourite. Would be 3.5 if that existed
I liked this, pleasant 90's sounding American rock
Background music at best
Sympathy For The Devil is amazing and the rest of the album is full of tasty little bluesy numbers that I enjoyed.
Perfectly pleasant 70's pop.
Super tedious advert level wanky nonsense.
Right up my street
Decent blues rock. Nothing to make me super excited but never dull either
Not as good as their first album but I'm a big fan of this too
Didn't quite reach 4 stars as a collective for me but there were 2 or 3 individual songs that would hit 4 or maybe 5 stars easily
Amazing
I'm not a massive fan but I can tell this album is good
Top tier. The dance act all other dance acts secretly wished they were. This album doesn't even have their two vest songs on either.
Meh
Prefer their second album but found this one enjoyable too
Good but miles away from great. 3 or 4 really good songs and then a lot of songs that make me wish I was listening to Motown or The Doors instead
I was honestly under the impression I thought Boards of Canada were really good but this was fairly tedious.
The first solo Wu Tang release and not the greatest but still a very good album. RZA is one of the greatest producers working.
Not as good as Underworld but not far off. Early 90's Manchester Techno? Yes please
Good but not amazing. Preferred his later stuff I think
Arguably behind Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan in jazz singing terms but still an amazing artist. Couple of songs fell flat for me but Four Women alone will earn this a solid score
Love me some Jazz and this is up there with the best for me
I don't get the Rod hatred. It's not a better for sure but my foot was tapping throughout so that's a good thing
I like Jamiroquai.
Enjoyed this, previously only knew Roadrunner. Tad too long maybe
My favourite sort of 60's music, a bit of psychedelia
It was OK. Couple of good songs but mostly a bit dull
Surprisingly good. Enjoyed this more than I thought. Last track is shite though
Very good. Especially Barbarism Begins At Home.
Good enough but nothing super amazing
It's not awful but bloody hell it's boring to actually hear in one sitting
Awesome
Fairly shit
Not a top level belter for me but a belter nevertheless
Excellent live album, love the asides and the total bizarreness of it all
Couple of good tracks, couple of pompous shit tracks, mostly average guff
I feel like this should have been higher as technically it fits into my wheelhouse of noisey, sludgey rock and pop but the singers voice irritated me so much I can't score higher than 2.
Was alright
I love Dylan and think this is a really good album but he does need to learn when to shut the hell up sometimes and finish a song before it ends up 15 days long
Great album but doesn't quite do it for me like it did 15 years ago
This was good, drifted into irrelevance at times but overall enjoyable
Didn't know what to expect, didn't understand much of it but it was pleasing to my ear holes nevertheless.
The Specials are the best of the trumpet tooting wanky ska bands and this album was more enjoyable than I was expecting
Meh was OK
Good singles, fairly bland rest.
Eh was OK, nothing too exciting
Couple of duffers but mostly a nostalgic banger. Morello is one of the greatest guitarists of his generation
This grated on me something rotten
Meh
Nothing too special but some enjoyable glammy punk. I managed to get the whole album on YouTube as Spotify didn't have it all
Not a fan at all of this
So so, couple of good songs but mainly peters into dull for me. Decent harms though
Meh, baby jazz
Wankus
Am biased because I was already a Wilco fan. Shave 25 minutes off this and it's a 5.
Great album
Not too bad at all
No thanks, this is utter cack
I really like this style of American punk
An enjoyable disco romp
Surprisingly excellent
Good, but his waffle on the final track gets on my tits too much to rate higher than that
Paul Rogers innit. If he's good enough for Queen he's good enough for me
Good album, can't believe its 22 years old!
Not my cup of tea at all
Do not like the quavary vocals at all
Fairly tedious faff
Enjoyable, well crafted 50's pop
Amazing
Decent enough but too long for what it is
Banger
